Maiden of the Moon
What if Kokushibo had a pupil, whom he taught the original Moon Breathing before he deserted the Demon Slayer Corps?
Mochizuki Yua was born only for these reasons: To become a Hashira and make her family a respected one in the Demon Slayer Corps.
But if you only live for the expectations of others, who are YOU truly?
What will it take to find yourself?
A long, hard journey awaits.
!!!!PLEASE READ AND REVIEW!!!
So I made a pic of the passenger who entered Yua's mind and the rest of the Mochizuki family.
And as little treat how Yua looks in Inosuke’s dream.
I found a Beta-Reader the wonderful JayWalkerReal from Wattpad.
So it can happened that the chapter don’t come all two to three days but a bit later, till she corrects anything-
Hope you understand!
Now on with the Story.
Chapter 14: Beautiful Nightmares
Our four Demon Slayers enter the inside of the train.
Fascinate Yua looks around, as she had said she never had taken a train, so it was an amazing experience.
Inosuke thought the same and showing no manners like always, stormed between seat rows, scarring passengers, so he could look out the window.
“So fast! Hahahaha!”, laughed the wild boy in amazement.
“Sorry! We’re very sorry!”, said Zenitsu to the passengers and grasped Inosuke. “Forget that! Get over here, idiot!”
“So freakin’ fast! Hahahaha!”
“Boarhead, calm down. I know it’s cool, but show some manners!”, hissed Yua, as Zenitsu pulled Inosuke away from the window.
The quartet makes their way towards Rengoku.
“He’s a Hashira, right? This Rengoku person…”, ask Zenitsu Tanjiro. “Are you sure you’ll recognize his face?”
“Sure. He had this gaudy hairstyle, and I remember his scent, too.”
“That’s good to know, Tanjiro. My Aura-Sensing is useless if I don’t know what I’m looking for.”, tells Yua. “But in the next wagon is someone with a fiery Aura.”
“That could be him. I think I’ll know it’s him once we get close.”
Tanjiro prepares to open the door to the next train car. He only can open it to a slit, when all of sudden a loud shout of Delicious rattles even the windows!
This quiet shocks the four Demon Slayers.
Who has so much power in their lungs?!
They enter the train car, hearing someone shout Delicious over and over again. Yua feels a warm and fiery Aura coming from this person.
They stand now behind a young male with blond hair and red strikes in it, eating Bento’s to his heart contentment.
“Delicious!!”, again he shouts and it looks like all the Bento Boxes fly into the air!
Yua was disbelieving, (was that the Hashira?!), as was Tanjiro, while Zenitsu hides behind them and Inosuke looks curious.
“Is that the Flame Hashira guy?”, whisper-shouts Zenitsu. “Not just some random glutton?”
“The aura is in any case fiery and warm like a flame.”, answers Yua, watching in bizarre fascination how the Flame Hashira eat and shouts with any bite Delicious.
He is like a shouty black hole. She never met someone who could eat that fast and with enthusiasm.
Tanjiro tells them that this is the Flame Hashira they searched for. He tries to talk to Rengoku, but he just eats and shouts to his heart contentment.
“Uh, we really get that part already…”
“The people in Kyoto get this part, what a shout...”, mumbles Yua with crossed arms.
Two nice attendants prepare to discard a tall stack of Rengoku’s empty bento boxes, as the overhead light flickers.
“And you’re the kid from that day at the Master’s.”, say’s He finally something different and stopped eating.
Yua wasn’t sure he could.
“Yes. I’m Kamado Tanjiro.”, answers her boyfriend. ”And they are my fellow Demon Slayers, Mochizuki Yua, Agatsuma Zenitsu and Hashibira Inosuke .”
Zenitsu and Yua bow in greeting, while Inosuke just puts his hand on his hips and lets out a loud huff from his mask.
“It’s an honour to meet you, Rengoku-Sama.”, greets Yua. “Kocho-Sama only had good things to say about you.”
That her fellow Hashira was a shouty glutton she had left out.
“Now none of that young Mochizuki, we are all comrades here. Rengoku is fine.”
In agreement, Yua nods.
Then Rengoku turns back to Tanjiro.
“And inside that box there…”
“Yes. It’s my sister Nezuko.”
“Right! That demon we saw that day, huh? Since the Master has acknowledged her, I won’t say any word for now.”
The Flame Hashira pats the seat beside him.
“Have a seat here.”
So they all settle down.
Tanjiro beside Rengoku, Yua with Nezoko’s Box in the seat in front of them and Inosuke and Zenitsu settle for a seat nearby.
The wild boy is so amazed by the train that he pounds the windows, shouting how fast the lord is. Thankful Zenitsu grasps him and makes him sit down again.
“What are you four doing here? A mission?”, ask Rengoku Tanjiro and Yua, while facing forward with crossed arms.
Yua raises an eyebrow. Why isn’t the Hashira facing her or Tanjiro?
Anyway, she answers him. “My crow Kaguya gave us orders. “The casualties of the Mugen Train are increasing. Join Rengoku on site,” she said. And here we are.”
“Yes! I see now! Understood!”
He still wasn’t looking at them.
“Right.”, says Tanjiro. “Also, there’s one more thing. There’s something I wanted to ask you, Rengoku.”
In bizarre fascination, Yua watches how Tanjiro tries to get more information on the Hinokami Kagura Dance from Rengoku. They both take turns in talking so it’s like she is watching a Tennis Match.
In the end, the FLame Hashira has no idea about the Hinokami Kagura Dance.
What a bummer.
“Um, can you try to help me a little more?!”, begs him Tanjiro.
“Why aren’t you looking him in the eyes?!”, adds Yua curious. “My Kaa-Chan always said that’s super rude.”
“You should become my Tsugukos, my apprentices! I’ll look after you both!”
“Hold on a second! And just what are you looking at?!”, shouts the couple together in disbelieve.
What was going on?!
“Flame Breathing has a long history.”, begin Rengoku with a little history lesson. “In any given era, there’s always been a Flame and Water swordsman among the Hashira. Flame… Water… Wind… Stone… Thunder…Moon...Those are the fundamental breathing techniques, even if we only had one Moon Hashira till now. The other techniques were created as offshoots of those six. Mist is a fork of wind. Young Mizoguchi and Young Mochizuki! What color are your katana’s?”
“Huh?! My name is Kamado. And the colour is black.”
“Mine is white.”
“Ah, white, the Mist Hashira Katana is white too and Noritaka’s also. He is your uncle, right Young Mochizuki?”
“Erm, yes.”
“That means you have a calm and distant personality, fitting for someone who practices Moon-Breathing.”
“Erm, thank you?”
The midnight blue-haired girl wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
“A black sword, huh?”, Rengoku turned to Tanjiro. “Well, isn’t that unfortunate? Hahahaha!”
“For real?”, asked Tanjiro in disbelief.
“I’ve never known a swordsman with a black sword that became a Hashira. On top of that, I hear that they have no clue which style to master. Come to me, and I’ll train you! You can rest easy now! You also Mochizuki, you will be the second Moon Hashira we have in the corps.”
“No… No, thank you! And just what are you looking at?!”, chorus Tanjiro and Yua.
Silence falls over them and Yua takes the chance to do a good Aura-Sensing of the Flame Hashira.
Yes, indeed, like she had noted before fiery and warm. Also caring and just. He really cared for her and Tanjiro and wanted to help them.
Yua decides, that Rengoku might be a bit weird, but his Aura shows clearly a good heart and soul.
Meanwhile, Inosuke tries to jump out the window to try to race the train (Idiot!) and Zenitsu tries his best to not let him jump out.
“That’s dangerous.”, warns Rengoku. “You never know when a demon might appear.”
And that was the thing Zenitsu didn’t want to hear. He thought they were travelling to the demon and not that the demon was in the train as Rengoku explains.
Of course, the blond freaks out and wants to get off.
“If you wanna jump out a driving train be my guest.”, deadpanned Yua with crossed arms. “But I don’t think you would survive it Agatsuma.”
The scarred boy only shakes and whines more in fright.
Tanjiro sends his girlfriend a look and she shrugs her shoulders.
She was just telling the truth.
Yes, but you could say it nicer, it’s clearly written in Tanjiro's face.
A train crewman enters the train car and begins walking along the aisle
“May I… see your… tickets, please?”
“What’s he doing?”, wonders Tanjiro
“The conductor is going to check your ticket and punch a hole in it.”, explains Rengoku.
The conductor punched a hole in each ticket of the Hashira and the four Demon Slayers.
When he is done with Yua, the light flickers again.
Suddenly Yua feels how her Aura-Sensing goes crazy, but before she can check what caused this all turn dark around her...
***
She is underwater.
She is drowning.
Deeper and deeper.
There was something.
Something important!
Yua tries to swim, but her arms haven’t the strength.
She sinks deeper...
***
Yua is leaning on the Nezuko box. Tanjiro leans on Rengoku and Inosuke is drapped over Zenitsu.
All of them are sleeping.
None of them knows in which danger they are now.
***
Something is tickling Yua's nose.
With a little sneeze, she wakes up and looks around.
Huh?
The sun is shining warm down on her as she lays in her family garden.
“Strange...”, she mumbles. “Wasn’t it night? Wasn’t I somewhere else?”
Confused she scratches her head. There she notes how utterly long her hair is, even her bangs now reach her hips?!
What the...?
Why did she let her hair grow this much?
It will be a huge hassle in a fight with a Demon.
“Blossom.”, calls a sweet voice for her.
Immediately tears spring into her eyes and she stands up.
No.
It can’t be.
She hadn’t heard this beloved voice since she was 14 years old.
But...but there she is.
Wavy light pink hair.
Big red eyes.
A soft lovely smile on her hips.
Wearing her favourite cherry blossom Kimono.
In her hands a little tablet with a cup of tea probably.
It’s her mother!
But mother...but mother...wasn’t she...?!
“Blossom?”, calls again Kaa-Chan worried. “Is something wrong?”
With a shout, that resembles more of a wounded animal, Yua races up to her mother and hugs her tight. The tablet with the tea fell down on the ground.
“Mama! Mama! You are here!”, cries Yua, gripping her mother so tight, scarred she would leave her. Her tears wet the kimono of her mother.
“My sweet blossom, where else would I be?”, coos Mama, hugging her back and kissing her forehead. “Did you have a bad dream?”
“Yes this must be it.”, agrees Yua, still hugging and getting hugged by her mother. “Just a long bad dream...”
***
In the real world on the Mugen Train, Yua sheds tears.
She isn’t the only one.
Tanjiro dreams of his dead family and cries about being reunited with them.
Rengoku dreams of his family, especially his beloved brother.
Zenitsu dreams of his beloved Nezuko.
Inosuke has a wild adventure with a bunny Nezuko, a deer Yua, a raccoon dog Tanjiro and a rat Zenitsu.
They don’t know and feel the five people who bind themselves to each of them with a robe so they can enter their dreams.
And kill them from within!
***
All is so perfect, Yua can’t believe it.
Grandma Junko is fine! She didn’t die when she was a little girl and is now clan head.
It was her grandfather who had died.
Good riddance.
Under Grandma Junko's lead, the Mochizuki have abandoned the Demon Slayer Corps forever and are now just a big happy family.
Everyone living their dream job.
Aunt Chiyako has opened up a dress shop in the nearest city, selling beautiful Kimono.
Uncle Hansuke helps out his wife in the shop and works as a merchant.
Cousin Taiga, the oldest, who Yua had thought die, facing a Demon, is working as a wood carver. He always liked to make them little figures out of wood, she is happy her older cousin could make out of his passion a job he liked.
Cousin Daku goes to school and it seems like he will go to the university in Tokyo! Studying Physic he likes so much.
Cousin Kaito is enjoying for now kindergarten, but he likes to build houses with his wood blocks. Maybe he will be an architect?@
Her father Haruto has opened up a bookshop, sharing his passion for books with everyone.
Her mother and she help him out with it.
Yua isn’t sure if she wants to continue her father's work, but she enjoys the tranquillity of the job.
Uncle Keitaro became a fisherman, turning his hobby into his job. He isn’t often at home, but he lives his dream.
His wife Aunt Miwa decided to stay home and raise the kids.
Sayako, her beloved pain in the butt of a cousin, has an apprenticeship with the local pharmacy and is on the best way to take it over.
Hikari enjoys also kindergarten. The youngest is still too little to have a future job in mind besides becoming a princess.
And then...there is Uncle Noritaka.
Yua grins at her favourite uncle as he cleans his face from the theatre makeup from his last show.
His uncle always wanted to be an actor.
And he was it now.
“Peach, you seem so happy, it gives me the creeps.”, jokes Noritaka, ruffling her long hair.
“I’m just so happy...we all are free from the curse of the Moon Breathing. It’s amazing!”, she chirps and hugs her uncle.
“Yeah, maybe we are egoists, but our family has done enough for the Demon Slayer Corps. They can do just fine without the cursed Moon-Breathing.”, he agrees and hugs her back.
“My bitch.”, calls Sayako for her. Her cousin enters Uncle Noritaka's bedroom with a shit-eating grin. “Your little coal lover boy is here.”
For a second Yua doesn’t get what Sayako means-
***
She opens her eyes.
She is underwater again.
Something is wrong!
Something is wrong!
She needs to get out of the water!
It only drags her down more...
***
-Till she remembers again.
Oh right, her love Tanjiro.
Tanjiro and his family moved two years ago and started to sell coal around the city and to them.
They had become friends and now after years of pinning a couple.
“Thanks, you slut!”, she gives Sayako a kiss and runs out of the house.
There is Tanjiro waiting for her with Nezuko on his side, enjoying the warm sun.
...Something is not right.
Something tells her Nezuko shouldn’t be out of the sun.
Then her future sister-in-law smiles at her and she forgets the thought.
“Yua-Nee, nice seeing you.”
Both girls hug each other before Yua kisses Tanjiro's cheek and the couple embrace.
“Hello, love.”
“Hello, darling.”
“Okay, I will let you be happy for half an hour and then we need to get going alright, Nii-San.”
“Thanks, Nezuko.”, the couple chores and doesn’t even look how the other Kamado enters the Mochizuki Mansion.
They both are more invested in each other.
Their lips met a tender and passionate kiss.
***
Yume herself wouldn’t say she is bad.
Yes her actions are bad.
However, she isn’t bad.
Born from a prostitute mother, who stayed pregnant with her, a child with natural blond hair, she hadn’t had an easy life.
Her mother was abusive.
She saw in her the foreigner she had made Yuma with.
The foreigner who had promised her to take her away to the far land of England to marry and raise their child together.
All men were the same.
Only promise and nothing following up.
Yume had experienced the same.
Thanks to her exotic looks the boys swarmed her.
And she listened to their promises.
Opened her legs.
She had her first child at 13.
Thankful it was a stillbirth.
Or her mother would have killed her to bring another mouth to feed at home.
Then she ran away because she couldn’t take any more of the hate of her mother and did the same job as her.
Used, used and used.
The blond was only a thing to play for people.
Then a client gave her Syphilis.
And her life would have been over, hadn’t she heard about the Mugen Train.
She didn’t have the money for the cure, so dying in a beautiful dream sounded way better.
That’s why she helped the demon.
The blond-haired woman watched emotionless behind a tree how the female Demon Slayer dreamed about being together with the red-haired Demon Slayer.
All been cutesy and coupley together.
Something she never had the luck to experience.
It disgusted her.
Silently she turned around and searched for the border of the dream and the subconscious. She found it at the edge of the little Wisteria Forest.
With an ice pick, she destroyed the border and entered the subconscious.
In it, all air left her lungs.
What kind of subconscious was that?
The floor was silver with graters, and over her a bright night sky with a million stars, the sun shining warm down on her.
Yuma walked around.
Where was the spiritual core? Only if she destroyed it, the demon slayer girl would die and she would get her dream from the demon.
This landscape was so alien, yet so incredibly beautiful.
“I’m...on the moon?”, asked Yume herself.
It made sense somehow.
She seemed to walk for ages.
A never-ending silver landscape, only the sun taking vigil over her.
Then she found it finally.
The spiritual core.
It was all silver and white, reminding her of a pearl.
“Beautiful.”, she gasped. “A shame I have to destroy it.”
She raises the Ice Pick ready to stab it!-
***
Yua is floating down in the water, till all of sudden her Aura Sensing goes crazy.
She opens her eyes and screams!
The water vanishes.
***
The intruder in Yua's subconscious never gets to change to stab the spiritual core, since the floor breaks under her and she falls screaming into the darkness.
***
With a jerk, Yua wakes up.
Huffing she blinks frantically with her eyes.
She is back on the Mugen Train.
What the heck had this all been?
“Yua!”
“Mmh!”
The girl looks up and sees Tanjiro and Nezuko awake. Rengoku is in the background, still sleeping, choking some random girl, while Zenitsu and Inosuke sleep too.
“Tanjiro! Nezuko!”
She rises from her seat and hugs her boyfriend and her future sister-in-law. They hug her back just as tight.
“What is going on?”, ask Yua them.
Her boyfriend explains how they got pulled into a Blood Demon Art thanks to the train tickets. Then the people who hang them with robes have also a demon smell on them. They surely were sent into their dreams to harm them in a way.
Nezuko burns Yua's robes and then after Tanjiro asks her she burns the others because Yua notes that it would surely be a bad idea to just cut the robes.
They had a very strange aura around them.
So the two awake Demon Slayers try to wake up their sleeping comrades.
Tanjiro tries to shake Zenitsu awake, while Yua just slaps Inosuke. Hard.
“Okay, not even my bitch-slap helps.”, notes Yua dry.
What should they do?
What could they do?

“kiss me hard before you go, summertime sadness.” -Lana Del Rey
˚ʚkamado tanjiroɞ˚
♡He’s in love with you, and as his first priority is being a demon slayer to turn Nezuko back into a human, he does the best he could to hide the feelings and/or ignore them.
♡Of course he wants to be with you after this is all over. Actually, he wants to get with you as fast as he could. (But priorities first! …right?)
♡At first, he was embarrassed when he called you, not by your name. Although all that previous embarrassment was quick to wash away after he saw your reaction. Now he just has to hope he doesn’t fall for you even harder.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚
You hummed silently to yourself while on the very top of the ladder, hanging up colorful decorations all of the butterfly mansion. With the idea from Aoi and Kanao, everyone was decorating the estate as a surprise for Shinobu. It was your job to hang decorations, Aoi to bake, and Kanao to pass out invitations to the Hashira’s.
“Y/n! Be careful!” Tanjiro who had been below you was holding onto the wobbling ladder you were standing on. He had helped you already hang up banners in half the estate. Now there was only the other half to go. And despite you being the one on the top of the latter, Tanjiro seemed to be way more anxious at you being up there.
Your body stretched forward in an attempt to hook up the end of the lavender banner to the other side of the wall. Without realizing, you began to wobble in the slightest, stressing out Tanjiro in fear of you falling.
“Dear, be careful!” You quickly paused your actions. Thankfully, you had already hooked up the end of the banner. You felt your face get hot as you looked down at Tanjiro, checking to see if he had coincidentally called someone else dear. But he had been staring right at you.
At first, he seemed confused on why you became to flustered out of no where. Until he realized what he said. His own face turned a dark red as he tried to explain himself. But he only became a stuttering mess.
Taisho Secret!: After what happened you tripped off of the ladder in embarrassment and Tanjiro had to catch you, making him blush more.
˚ʚagatsuma zenitsuɞ˚
♡Let’s be completely honest, he’s head over heels in love with you and not afraid to show it. He calls you pet names all the time. He calls you his love, future lover, and his soulmate.
♡Sure the first time he called you a cute name and complimented you, you blushed profusely. But eventually, you got used to the pet names.
♡Zenitsu, for one, will never forget the day you got flustered from him calling you a pet name. As for you, you tried your best to forget it at how embarrassing the whole scenario had been.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚
You laid on the soft futon on the floor, zenitsu’s futon being right beside yours as tanjiro’s was on Zenitsu’s side, Inosuke being on the other end. You had a long night and were mostly just happy you made friends and wouldn’t be alone on your journey as a demon slayer.
However one thing that had made your day seem extra slow and long was one of the boys you met. Zenitsu. He was adorable but he was relentless in trying to get you to be his spouse.
Your back had been facing zenitsu as you were trying to finally get some sleep. That was until zenitsu snapped you out of your thoughts by poking your back repeatedly. With a small sigh you turned the other way to face Zenitsu.
As every other time you saw him, he had tears in his eyes. “What happened, Zenitsu?” You asked, your eyes half lidded as you just wanted sleep. It took everything in you to not pass out in the middle of your conversation with him.
That conversation had mostly just been him talking to you. But you couldn’t pay attention to a single thing you said. “Love? Are you okay?” Your eyes suddenly widened as you felt yourself blush.
“AWW! YOU’RE BLUSHING!”
“Zenitsu, Go to sleep!” Tanjiro yelled, throwing a pillow right at the boys head as Inosuke began laughing loudly.
Taisho Secret!: Zenitsu teased you about your flustered state for weeks and wouldn’t drop the topic. He believed even more that you two were meant for each other.
˚ʚhashibira inosukeɞ˚
♡In a situation like this with him, your most definitely not going to be the embarrassed one, even if it is you that received the compliment.
♡Inosuke has pride. A lot of pride. So the moment he ‘accidentally’ compliments you, his face is secretly burning a bright red. Thankfully his boat mask had been there to cover for him.
♡Getting a compliment from inosuke doesn’t happen very often. Especially when the two of you aren’t even in a relationship together. So you better cherish the moment while you can.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚
Inosuke calling you strong was just about the only compliment you received from him. And sometimes, it didn’t even seem like a compliment with the way he sounds so sarcastic and whenever he says it. And he also always brings up his own strength in the ‘compliment’ calling himself stronger than you.
And from Inosuke, you never would have expected to get a non-sarcastic compliment. Especially when it comes to your looks.
You, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and him all planned on going to a small festival nearby just for the fun of it. And for a break from slaying demons. And as the only thing you wear every day now being the demon slayer uniform, you didn’t think it would hurt to dress up a little.
Being out of the corps uniform felt comforting in a way. Despite still having to bring your katana just in case, it felt nice to feel like a normal person your age.
You walked outside, seeing only inosuke outside, dressed up and out of the usual pants he would wear. But the boar mask remained. You stood beside the boy, waiting for the other two to come.
“You look pretty..” You heard a Mutter from inosuke, making you shocked. You turned over to the boy with a questioning look on your face.
“Did you-“
“No!” He yelled quickly, crossing his arms. A small blush dusted your cheeks as you moved your arms over to his boar mask to take it off. The moment you did, you noticed his red face making yourself turn red as well.
Taisho Secret!: When Inosuke told you that you looked pretty, Tanjiro heard and brought it up to you during the festival making your face turn pink. Inosuke saw and felt a little jealous but he’ll never admit that.
˚ʚshinazugawa genyaɞ˚
♡He spoke without thinking. And the very moment it slipped out of his mouth, it took no time for him to turn the darkest shade or red.
♡You immediately turned a light red but the moment Genya began apologizing for calling you that and assumingely making you uncomfortable, you felt really bad.
♡100% had to assure him multiple times that it was completely fine and you didn’t mine one bit. He stopped apologizing but he was stiff as a board the entire day as he couldn’t shake off what had happened.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚
You and Genya had both chosen to visit a small lake that day. The two of you were simply in the water, splashing each other and staying afloat.
While not paying attention, you didn’t realize Genya staring at you with a small smile on his face. The moment you saw, your head tilted to the side. You eventually waved your hands in his face to break him out of his small trance.
Although even that didn’t really seem to work.
“Genya?” You asked before moving your hand back to your side.
“You’re so lovely.”
He paused. You paused. His face slowly turned a dark red and so did you. He was quick to put his hands up in defense.
“I’M SORRY!-“
“NO GENYA, DON’T WORRY-“
Taisho Secret!: Genya was ashamed thinking he may have upset you. So when the little lake day ended, he felt super guilty, thinking he made things awkward. Sanemi soon got worried at his brothers embarrassed state but Genya refused to say what was wrong.
˚ʚtokito muichiroɞ˚
♡Poor Muichiro has horrible memory and everyone knows that. In some cases, having horrible memory can be a good thing, and in other cases, it’s really bad. For obvious reasons, it’s mostly bad.
♡But when this happened, Muichiro had a win win situation. Muichiro cares deeply about you and out of all the Hashira’s, he only ever hangs out with you. For that reason your company means a lot to him, even if neither of you knew it.
♡Mitsuri and Tengen had also both informed Muichiro about his feelings for you. So when he found out he was in love with you, he sort of forgot that he wasn’t dating you. More so with the way you’re both always clingy to each other.
˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚ ❀ ˚
You walked around the main garden with nothing else to do. Muichiro was practically clinging onto your arm as he too had nothing else to do. Honestly, unexpected visits from him had gotten normal so you never payed much attention to it.
After a while of walking around, you took a small seat on the grass, Muichiro soon after sat right next to you, a blank expression on his face as he put his head on your shoulder.
It was something he always did. It took a while of getting used to it as your face would always flush at first. Now it had been comforting.
“Love, what are you doing tomorrow?” Muichiro asked, gazing up at the sky as his head was still placed on your shoulder.
“I-“ Right when you about to answer, you paused. Your face slowly began turning a light shade of red as you stiffened. Muichiro felt it, soon after bringing his head off your shoulder. He gave you a small head tilt, amused at your reaction.
“Mui..?” You asked, waiting to see if he even realized what he said. With the amused expression, you were sure he did. “You called me-“
“Are we not dating?” His amused expression faltered as he gave you a more genuinely confused one. You blushed more, not sure at what to say.
Taisho Secret!: Since Muichiro never got a direct answer from you, he spent and entire month thinking the two of you were dating and so Mitsuri had to later explain he hadn’t asked you out yet. Maybe that’s why you got so embarrassed when Muichiro told Zenitsu the two of you were dating.

Can you pls do platonic yandere sanemi x demon child reader (that is also tanjiros and nezukos younger sibling to)
soft yandere!older brother figure!shinazugawa sanemi x child!demon!reader hcs [platonic]
TITLE: " TURBULENCE " — navi.
A/N: this contains huge manga spoilers in regards to sanemi's past/relationships!! also ,, ty for being patient annonie, if ur still there :') also i accidentally posted this b4 i finished it, so sorry if anyone saw that...
PAIRING: soft yandere!older brother figure!shinazugawa sanemi x child!demon!kamado!reader (platonic)
CHARACTERS: shinazugawa sanemi (21), reader (12), nezuko (14), tanjiro (16)
☆ sanemi hates demons.
☆ that much is clear from the spectacle he made of your older sister, nezuko, at the hashira's headquarters with that horrrible temper of his. needless to say, you don't like him at all and he clearly doesn't like you or your sister, either. it certainly doesn't help that master kagaya seems to have a sour sense of humor as you're now stuck with him as your babysitter.
☆ both tanjiro and nezuko vehemently object to master kagaya's orders. the servants of the residence had to literally rip you from the ironed grips of your older siblings, who were screaming bloody murder as if you'd be separated for the rest of eternity. they were certainly being a tad bit dramatic, but you'd be lying if you said you weren't just as upset.
☆ with the deal set in stone, however, sanemi drags you to his home as begrudgingly as humanly possible and condemns you to one of his spare bedrooms. apparently he lived alone (expected tbh) in a traditional style home, complete with the koi ponds and bamboo deer scares. it's nice, you'll give him that, but his nasty attitude doesn't seem to match the beauty of his residence.
☆ although your living conditions are less than ideal, you're old enough to know that staying under someone else's roof is almost never free. you try (keyword: try) to do what you can to help around the house but sanemi is constantly hollering at you to leave him alone or to not mess with his stuff.
☆ he insists you stay in your room and out of his way, but you still tail behind him from afar out of your debilitating boredom. if he notices, he says nothing, and simply ignores you as if you're not even there. at least when you were with tanjiro and nezuko there was always something to do—sanemi is so boring.
☆ sometimes sanemi gets really angry for seemingly no reason and at any given time. he'll storm outside and take it out on the poor practice dummies that litter his backyard, grunting in oblivious rage when he accidentally kicks one of their heads off. you're not sure what it is about you that makes him so angry; you've kind of already ruled it out as his perpetual state of being.
☆ and, well, sanemi doesn't... hate you. you remind him so much of his younger brother, genya, and most of his anger is only borne out of pain. as the eldest of the family he once knew, it's not like the instincts he acquired to take care of his siblings just went away. you simply remind him of who he used to be and the weaknesses that tore his family apart make him inexplicably angry.
☆ considering your resemblance to his late younger siblings (and genya), sanemi does get protective over you in his own ways. sometimes you meddle too close to the windows during the day, so he'll yell at you to move. or sometimes when you're scarfing down the raw meat he gives you, he yells at you to slow down lest you choke.
☆ it may seem like he's not paying attention to you at all, but he's always peeking at you with watchful eyes. he's notices that you like to watch him train but can't be out in the sun, so he hung up a blanket in the branches of a nearby tree without saying a word to you. you smile knowing that you're growing on him.
☆ during the evening, sanemi often catches you out in the garden picking flowers. usually he'd shrug his shoulders and turn his nose up, but he felt compelled to see what you were doing out there all the time. plus, he couldn't have you wandering out beyond the walls.
☆ "what're you doin', kid?" sanemi's booming voice scares you and you drop your basket of colorful flowers on the ground with a squeak. you scramble to gather them again and you're surprised to see a pair of scarred hands helping out, too.
☆ "i'm gonna make flower crowns for when tanjiro and nezuko get back." you answer once all the flowers are back in the basket. sanemi snorts. "flower crowns?"
☆ you nod. "yup! here, i'll show you how to make one." sanemi has zero time to refuse as you grab his hand and pull him down onto the grass with you. you take a length of string that you had stolen from one of his many rooms of junk and began to attach the flowers to it with a clever weaving pattern.
☆ sanemi is fuming in embarrassment as you eagerly teach him how to make a stupid flower crown. this is ridiculous. but why can't he just get up and leave? when you hand him the string of flowers to try it out for himself, your childish giggling is contagious as he fumbles clumsily and accidentally crushes the delicate stem in his callous grip.
☆ in the end, sanemi finds himself enjoying making flower crowns with you, but he threatens you violently with a ruffle of your hair should you tell anyone about it. he would never admit it but as he looks at the crudely made flower crown that you helped him with, he feels a distantly familiar feeling of warmth igniting in his heart again.
☆ the rest of the days you spend with sanemi begin to feel more pleasant than it did initially. sanemi no longer leaves you to your own devices, but instead tries to find things for you to do during the day when you can't go outside. he'll bring you puzzles and teach you how to read with children's folktales written on tarnished scrolls that he said he kept from his old family home.
☆ you're not sure what happened, but sanemi dotes on you now. once you had tripped and split your finger open, and sanemi rushed to your side like it had been your head. it healed within a few seconds, but sanemi still scolded you for walking around unsupervised.
☆ and when you get feverish due to your refusal of eating human flesh, which is often, sanemi tarries by your side day and night in order to make sure you're as comfortable as can be. cold, damp towels on your forehead, fresh raw meat at your bedside, and anything else you want, he gets for you. the worry etched into the lines of his forehead shows how much he cares about you.
☆ by the time tanjiro and nezuko return from their mission to collect you, sanemi doesn't even want to let you go. in fact, you've both grown attached to each other and while you're overjoyed to see your siblings again, sanemi has also become something like an older brother to you. you've grown to love the big residence and his presence.
☆ you're in tears as sanemi pats your head and smiles crookedly at you for what feels like the last time. you beg tanjiro to let you stay longer but he firmly tells you no. sanemi makes tanjiro promise that he'll take you to visit him or else he'll kill him (he's serious).
☆ when you inevitably depart from sanemi (tanjiro has to pry you away from him), he feels about as lonely as the day is long. the residence feels too big without you following behind him like his own shadow, and every time he turns a corner he half-expects to find you doing something to cause trouble.
☆ sanemi takes the flower crown you both made and seals it in a glass jar. he hopes that you'll visit again before it withers, or else he might just go out and find you himself.

demon slayer hcs: giyuu meeting soulmate!reader
characters: giyuu x fem!kamado!reader, tanjiro x sister!reader, nezuko x sister!reader, sanemi (mentioned), shinobu (mentioned), urokodaki (mentioned)
warnings: blood, family death, fighting, reader is the oldest Kamado sibling
AN: soulmate au where the first words your soulmate says to you is tattooed somewhere on your body!! this is the longest soulmate hcs i’ve written lol
GIYUU
you decide to spend the night over at a friends house late one night
you begin the walk home the next day at around noon
and when you return home you find your entire family slaughtered, laying in pools of their own blood
and your little brother Tanjiro and little sister Nezuko are missing
in tears, wondering what the hell happened and where your siblings are, you fail to notice the men and women approaching your home
when they get to you they explain who they are
they are the kakushi for the demon slayer corps
they check you for injuries and explain what had happened
a demon attacked your family
and your missing brother and sister are most likely dead
in a fit of rage the need for vengeance fills you
and you ask how you can become a slayer
the kakushi bring you to the butterfly mansion where you meet the head of the demon slayer corps
and filled with sympathy for you but sensing your potential, he assigns a hashira to be your mentor
and not just any hashira
The Wind Hashira
Sanemi Shinazugawa
the hot headed hashira with the deepest hatred for demons, the harshest training, and an undeniable disliking towards the water hashira, whom you haven’t met
with just a month of training, you’re headed to the Final Selection
unsurprisingly, due to your training with sanemi, you pass with flying colors
over the course of the next year, you practically fly up the ranks
being sent on several missions, training with sanemi, and of course, still grieving the loss of your siblings, Tanjiro and Nezuko
you become friends with most of the hashira due to your status of being the wind hashira’s tsuguko
but still not meeting the infamous water hashira that your teacher seems to hate
it isn’t until you receive a letter from the previous water hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki
that everything changes
he has heard of your fast progress and skill
and when hearing your last name, he realized that his newest student is your family
your little brother is alive
he passed the final selection
and he’s currently on a mission
a mission that several slayers have died on
a mission that required two hashira due to the amount of casualties
after reading the letter you practically fly out of the wind hashira’s estate
abandoning your daily training
barely hearing Sanemi’s outraged and confused yelling at your departure
running as fast as possible toward the forest that Tanjiro is supposed to be stationed in
you arrive
quickly taking off the head of a demon with the flick of your wrist as you pass by
faintly seeing the outline of a man with a mismatched haori in the corner of your eye
but continuing forward
toward your brother
faster
faster..
even faster…
you arrive
arrive just in time to block the killing blow heading towards your brother..
standing in front of Tanjiro in a defensive position with your back to him
your eyes lock onto the demon that was attacking your brother
Lower Rank 5
one of the twelve kizuki
you are so focused that you can barely hear Tanjiro whisper your name in shock
surely he thought you were dead
turning your head to softly smile at him over your shoulder you say,
“it’s alright, tanji. i’m here now.”
then, you feel a drop land on your face
a drop of blood
you look up to find your baby sister
covered in blood and tangled in the demons webs
a demon herself
in shock you stammer her name
this distraction gives lower rank 5 the opportunity to attack
he launches an attack toward you
you don’t have the time to block it
but you don’t have to
the man you caught a glimpse of earlier with the checkered haori leaps in front of you, blocking the strike
with him taking on the demon, you take the chance to leap into the air and cut the webs holding your sister
catching her as she falls, you can’t tear your eyes from her demonic form
Urokodaki did NOT mention this in his letter to you…
looking up at the sound of a head hitting the floor you realize that the man had delivered the killing blow to the attacking demon
as he turns to walk towards you and your sister, sword at the ready, nezuko stands in front of you defensively
“NO! DONT! SHE’S MY BABY SISTER” you plead, practically in tears
his eyes widen in shock
shock from the revealed information perhaps?
possibly from pity…?
or… is that… realization?
and then, in a split second he moves behind you
and the loud ‘clang’ of two swords colliding reach your ears
he had blocked the sword of another hashira
Shinobu, the insect hashira had attempted to take the life of your little sister
realizing that he was defending you, you took the chance
grabbing your brother and sister by the hand you run
and you keep running until you hear a crow telling you to report to the butterfly mansion with your brother and sister in tow
as you begin the journey to the butterfly mansion, tanjiro informs you of the events he experienced over the last year
in turn, you tell him of your experiences
arriving at the mansion, you are greeted with the sight of the hashira
normally, you would greet the people you call friends but today they are against you
when choosing between your family or your friends
you would choose your family, everytime
glancing between the highly ranked slayers, you see the quiet man in the mismatched haori
and since the only hashira that you haven’t met is the water hashira
you can safely assume that it’s him
when the meeting starts the master announces that both Urokodaki and Giyuu Tomioka have both put their lives on the line to vouch for Nezuko
Giyuu…
that’s his name.
the appreciation and admiration that surges through you at hearing the way he is supporting your sister is unreal
but your admiration is stopped in its tracks by the arrival of your mentor
you physically wince at Sanemi’s hard gaze, drawing an almost unnoticeable puzzled look from Giyuu
after the meeting ends and after a rather loud scolding from Sanemi
you turn to Giyuu and express how thankful you are for his help, and for his support for your sister
and he speaks to you for the first time,
“what kind of person would I be if i didn’t help my soulmate when she needed it.”
at his words, your heart stops
time freezes
your own wide eyes staring up into his calm ocean blue eyes in shock
you are physically frozen in shock
feeling the eyes of the other hashira staring at him he grabs you by the shoulder and leads you away from the prying gaze of the slayers
and then steps away, turning his back to you and pulling his hair over his shoulder exposing the back of his neck to you
exposing his soulmate tattoo to you
“NO! DONT! SHE’S MY BABY SISTER”
printed in your very own handwriting on his pale skin
you somewhat recover from your shock, softly tapping his shoulder to have him face you
and then copying his actions, you turn your back to him exposing the words printed onto your own neck
“what kind of person would I be if i didn’t help my soulmate when she needed it.”
sanemi was NOT happy to hear that his tsuguko is giyuu’s soulmate

Tanjiro x Reader? reader is a fellow demon slayer who’s always been very independent, but during a tough mission, they push themselves too hard and collapse from exhaustion. Tanjiro steps in, worried sick, and insists on taking care of them even though the reader doesn’t like to show weakness
✧・゚: a/n: thank you so much for the request, anon! Writing Tanjiro being soft and protective was such a treat. There's something about his gentle, caring nature that just makes this kind of scenario perfect. Let me know if you guys have any more requests or ideas!
✧ Title: ✧ Rest in His Arms ✧ ✧ Characters: Tanjiro Kamado x Reader (Gender Neutral) ✧ Genre: Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Fluff ✧ Rating: T ✧ Summary: After a brutal battle, you find yourself severely injured and struggling to keep going. Tanjiro, ever protective, stays by your side, taking care of you despite his own exhaustion. Vulnerability may feel like weakness, but in Tanjiro's arms, it feels safe. ✧ Content Warnings: Injury, blood, emotional distress, caretaking, mention of exhaustion. ✧ WC: 943 words // 5.3k chars
The sun was setting over the small clearing, casting long shadows across the bloodstained grass. The battle had left a dark stain on the earth, and the once peaceful evening was now heavy with the aftermath of the demon's attack. You could barely muster the energy to keep your eyes open, the dull ache in your muscles turning into sharp pain with every shallow breath. Your body was screaming in protest as you struggled to sit up, but your strength was rapidly fading.
The mission had been a disaster. The demon you'd been tracking was far stronger than any of you had anticipated. Your comrades, though brave, were all injured, some lying unconscious a few feet away. You... you had pushed yourself too far.
A warm hand grasped your shoulder, pulling you gently but firmly back against a familiar chest. “No, no, no! You have to rest!” Tanjiro’s voice was laced with worry, his usual cheerful demeanor replaced by something much more serious. His hands trembled slightly as he tried to make sure you were comfortable.
You blinked up at him, trying to focus. “I’m... fine,” you rasped, but your words lacked conviction. All that came out was a hoarse whisper, weak and thin. The effort of speaking made your head spin, and the world around you began to blur at the edges. Tanjiro’s concerned face became an indistinct shape, and darkness threatened to swallow you whole.
Tanjiro’s arms wrapped tightly around you just as your body gave way, cradling you protectively. “It’s going to be alright,” he whispered, though the tremor in his voice betrayed his own fear. “I’ve got you.”
As the world faded, the last thing you remembered was the warmth of his embrace and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. It was oddly comforting, despite the chaos around you.
When you came to, the first thing you noticed was the smell of wood smoke, the soft crackling of a small fire nearby. Your body was still heavy with exhaustion, but there was something softer now—a roll of blankets tucked under your head, the warmth of the fire chasing away the night’s chill. Your mind was hazy as you tried to piece together what had happened.
Tanjiro was kneeling beside you, his brow furrowed in concentration as he stirred a bowl of steaming soup in his hands. The firelight danced across his features, casting shadows that highlighted his deep concern. “You need to eat,” he said, his voice low and soft. There was an undeniable tenderness in his tone. “You lost a lot of blood.”
You tried to sit up, but the moment you moved, a sharp wave of pain washed over you, forcing a pained gasp from your throat. Your hand instinctively went to your side, where the worst of your injuries had been bandaged. Tanjiro was instantly at your side, his reflexes as quick as ever, helping you sit up slowly. His touch was gentle but firm as he steadied you when you swayed. “Take it easy,” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I... I can’t believe I let myself get so weak,” you muttered, frustration welling up inside you. You were a demon slayer—someone strong, capable. Yet here you were, unable to move without help.
Tanjiro looked at you with those warm, understanding eyes of his, eyes that held none of the judgment you feared. “You’re not weak,” he said quietly, but with conviction. “You’re brave. You pushed yourself because you care so much about protecting everyone.” His hand lingered on your shoulder, a silent reassurance. “But even the strongest warriors need to take care of themselves. You’re no exception.”
For once, you didn’t argue. Exhaustion weighed too heavily on your limbs, and the warmth of his presence melted away the sharp edges of your pride. You let him help you eat, the rich broth soothing your parched throat and warming your body from the inside out. Each small bite was a reminder of how much you needed this, needed him, even if you hated to admit it.
He was so gentle, checking your wounds with careful hands, rebandaging them when needed. His brow furrowed in concentration as he worked, making sure you were comfortable, never once complaining or making you feel like a burden. You could see the weariness in his own eyes, the battle taking its toll on him too, but still, his focus was entirely on you.
When the soup was gone and the fire had died down to embers, Tanjiro returned to your side, his hand resting on your shoulder again as he knelt beside you. “You should rest more,” he whispered, his voice soft and soothing. “There’s no rush. The others are safe, and you need to heal.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but the words died on your lips as you saw the pleading look in his eyes. He wasn’t asking you to rest for his sake, but for yours. And so, with a deep breath, you relented, letting him guide you back against his chest once more. His arms wrapped around you, steady and strong, and for the first time in what felt like forever, you allowed yourself to relax completely.
It was strange, feeling so vulnerable, but in Tanjiro’s arms, it didn’t feel like weakness. It felt... safe. Protected. Like you didn’t have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders alone.
As the night wore on, you felt a strange sense of peace wash over you, a comfort you hadn’t realized you’d been missing. Maybe... maybe it wasn’t so bad to accept help sometimes. And maybe, just maybe, Tanjiro wasn’t so bad himself.

What You Choose
Fandom: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Pairing: Rengoku Kyojuro x f!reader
Count: 2K
Rating: T (M later)
On AO3
Summary: I recently watched/read KNY and have emotions. Likely done before, but wanted to get this out of my system so wrote it down. Rengoku survives the fight with Akaza, but some battles are not so straightforward.
Tags & Warnings: Rengoku lives AU, multichapter, blood, injury, pining, angst, second person POV, demon slayer!reader, tsuguko!reader, alternating POV, Oblivious Rengoku Kyojuro, for a while at least, Death, Mild Gore, Mild Hurt/Comfort, Eventual Smut
All characters depicted are 18+
I.
Everything fades. His body is going numb, his vision blurs as he stares down at his reflection in the dark pool of his own blood, unable to lift his head. The cries of grief surrounding him become dim and scatter like dying leaves from his consciousness.
I've done my duty, I've given my all.
The last he remembers is a small, clawed hand and a sudden, blooming flame bursting through his shattered torso, scalding him from within in ways his own fire never could.
I see... So this is what it feels like… to burn.
The balmy weather outside has no effect on you, seated at the side of the infirmary bed, your head in your hands.
“Perhaps you should go and rest. There’s been no change, and we’ll be sure to inform you of any developments.”
Aoi’s words are void of their usual sternness. You’ve heard them before, and yet—
“I’m fine, I really am.” You gaze back at the prone figure lying motionless beneath crisp white sheets. His gold and crimson hair is messy, and you’ve never seen him so pale, his features so sunken. The bandage covering his left eye is stained red in places, the usually smiling lips dry and bloodless.
Aoi sighs but says nothing else, and soon her departing steps echo against the walls.
I can’t. I can’t leave his side. You wish your thought could reach him, down to whatever place he’s struggling in now. You ball your hands into fists over your knees, a poor attempt at holding your composure. Please, come back. Please.
Weeks have passed since the mission on the train, since your group has returned with wounded bodies and spirits, though none in such a critical state as your mentor. Rengoku Kyojuro has not awakened since, and in contrast, since the nightmares the demon has placed upon you in that baleful encounter, you’ve not been able to sleep more than two to three hours every night. Every time, waking up in a sweat, the memory of what happened always the last image you remember.
“How is he today?”
You’re drawn from your thought by the gentle voice of the person you feel like you owe a life of debt to, and turn to gaze into the tired, worried eyes of Tanjiro Kamado. He stands by the bed now, glancing down at the Hashira. The slow rise and fall of his chest is the only sign that he is still alive.
You shake your head as Tanjiro takes a seat. “How is rehabilitation training going?”
Tanjiro smiles, still staring at the bed and its unresponsive occupant. “Almost done, I feel my strength returning to what it used to be and more. I admire how well you’ve upheld yourself, though,” he murmurs.
It’s true, for some reason, you’ve been the least scathed of them all, needing much less medical care than the rest. No, you know the reason why. “It’s because of him,” your words escape you. “If… if he hadn’t trained me as he did, if he hadn’t driven me so far beyond my limits, I don’t know if I would have survived for as long as I have in my role.”
“Oh, yes, I’ve heard. They say Lord Rengoku’s methods are… harsh to say the least.”
A smile tugs at your lips as a known pain pricks your heart. “But… but I’ve been remiss in thanking you, young Kamado—or rather, your sister. If she hadn’t…” Your throat tightens; you don’t want to break down, not here, not before Tanjiro and not before him, no matter he can’t hear it.
“Please, please don’t worry, it was a stroke of luck and quick thinking on her part, I only brought the box closer—”
“... she healed him! I saw the flames engulfing him, I saw the wound close. I don’t know how she did it but… Nezuko is someone... very special.”
Tanjiro lowers his head in humble acknowledgement. “I will tell her.” Then, as though remembering something, he reaches into his pocket and hands you a small bag. “Here, I’ve not seen you join meals very often and… well, please take them.”
You don’t have the strength to refuse, and take the bag from his hand, meeting his kind smile. “Candies…” You thank him before placing them on the bedstand, and after a few more moments of sitting in comfortable silence, Tanjiro takes his leave. You watch him depart, endeared by his manner and honesty. He has a good soul, a strong will—perhaps the strongest you’ve known, apart from…
You stare back at your mentor, memories of the past flooding behind your eyes.
Five months prior
“Good! Again!”
You’re panting, your total concentration breathing nearly failing as you evade another deadly arc of the Third Form: Blazing Universe.
The sun has westered and a bluish twilight sets over the lands, but your mentor still has you parrying his unwavering techniques, before making you attack using combinations of them in turn.
“Lord—lord Rengoku—”
His blazing speed cuts your words short as your blades clash, and you stare into bright, golden-rimmed irises. He’s smiling, as usual, with a devilish spark in his eyes. There is a sudden flutter in your stomach, overriding the fatigue in your burning muscles. “Come now, don’t tell me you’re beat! You’ve come so far after only three years!” he says as you fall back, lunging for another attack the following second.
The sudden weakness you feel when you’re close to him has you confused, because it was not there before. It all began in the past year: whenever he stares at you in a certain way, whenever he touches you during training or meets your eyes, something gnaws achingly at your chest. It’s as though you need something from him, but have no idea what it is.
“I knew it from the moment I took you on as a successor,” he says, merciless in his offensive. “If you—” Parry. Lunge. “—carry on like this—” Attack. Jump. “—you’ll reach a Hashira level of skill in no time at all!”
You don’t have the chance to reply, though his words feel like honey coating your senses. At first, he’d been sparse and strict, keeping to instructions and nothing else. But you struggled, worked harder than you had for anything in all your life, and it seems he acknowledges this fully now.
“Now—Ninth Form: Rengoku!”
That means you must attack, and he must deflect. But—Ninth Form?! “I—I can’t, I’m… I’m too exhausted for the Ninth!”
He bursts forward with Unknowing Fire, forcing you to duck and curl your body, rolling away into the dust, rising on one knee.
The Flame Hashira turns, pointing his weapon at you. “Is that what you plan on telling the demons?”
“Well, no, but—”
“At no point during a battle will you have the luxury of biding your time. If this were an actual encounter, you’d be dead.” He no longer smiles, his face turned cold, eyes glinting like molten steel.
You feel the rush of shame like fangs biting into you, fueling a horrible need to prove him wrong, to rise up to the challenge in his voice. With a hiss and a groan you grip the handle of your katana tightly, breathing and striving to light that spark in your heart.
With a cry you speed forward, clashing with him in a desperate lunge.
“Ha!” The smile returns as you grit your teeth. “Better!”
His face is so close to yours again, so close you feel the rush of his breath on your cheek.
Your knees feel weak again, and you close your eyes, pushing forward in an attempt to skew his balance.
What the hell is happening to you?
“Faster, the fire is still weak! It must rage!” the Hashira says, grinning like a madman now, and where once you enjoyed the path of learning and reaching your full potential, now his attitude brings forth an ache that confuses you and leaves you anxious.
Even so. Your blades sing against each other as you lunge back in a high jump, landing in a lowered stance with one palm braced against the earth. Your uniform is wet on your back, and you’re closer to your breaking point than you've ever been.
But the thought of disappointing him, now that feels unbearable. So you do what you always do: you push yourself more, more, harnessing all your strength into one melting core, bathing your heart in it and firing up your veins.
You attack.
He laughs outright. “Not bad, but—” Your swords clash, fiercer than before. “I know you can do better, and you can be faster.”
“I’m doing all I can!” you yell, at the end of your tether now. It’s not the first time, nor will it be the last. But he takes no offense, he never does, and that's one of the things you appreciate about him. “But you—you make it impossible! You always want more, even if you know I’m not ready for it!”
It must be the fire rushing through you that has you speaking this way, daring to say such words despite knowing full well what you were in for, when you accepted to become his successor.
“Wait until you’re ready, and you will never improve!” the Flame Hashira throws back.
A growl leaves your throat as you fall back then speed towards him again, trying the Second then the Third form in succession sloppily but you’re past caring.
Your arms feel as though they will tear and your bones might splinter as you crash against his unwavering stance, and you meet his scarlet-gold gaze as he speaks softly, his voice imbued with warmth: “You can surpass the impossible. I believe in you.”
Your eyes widen, that damned ache ringing through your body like a weakening poison and—
For one split second, your stance weakens, and you’re thrown back, losing your balance and falling heavily onto the ground.
Rengoku stares down at you, tilting his head to the side with a strange look on his face as he sheathes his katana.
Your vision sways, your lungs might burst. You barely clutch at the helping hand extended to you, aiding you to your feet. He grasps your shoulders. “What happened there just now? Your focus melted like wax.”
“I…” You can’t look him in the eye. His hands on you diffuse heat, permeating through your clothing. It feels good. It scares you. “I don’t… know.”
“Tomorrow, again,” he says, releasing you. “Please do better. Remember we’re doing this for you, but foremost for the people.”
“Understood,” you murmur, biting back tears as you watch him walk away.
Midnight has arrived when you end your reverie, thinking about that emotion that took root in your body and spirit, growing stronger as time passed. And you never dared tell him, never dared facing it nor can you explain why. You take a deep breath, leaned with your arms folded on the edge of the bed, your forehead resting on them. You never told him, and now…
And now with each day I’m losing hope.
Your shoulders are shaking, and your eyes sting. There is no one else here but you and him, the long chamber of empty beds the only witness to your breakdown.
You’re so absorbed by despair, you don’t perceive the faint movement, or the hand gently placed on your head.
“... Why are you crying?”
You choke on a silent sob, blinking in shock at the low, throaty voice, broken with disuse. Slowly, you raise your head.
He's staring at you, a bleak smile on his lips, and you're utterly, incomprehensibly frozen.
“You… you’re awake?” It feels like the dumbest of questions: your body knows the truth before your mind catches up.
“That… depends. Are you really here?” he asks in turn.
You nod, biting on your lower lip and wiping your eyes with your sleeve. “Yes, yes I am.”
The smile wavers for a moment as he grimaces in pain. “Oh, I see. Then… it seems… you’re not rid of me yet.”
All the gods in all the world couldn’t keep the emotions flooding you at bay, and you shake your head as warm tears flow down your face.

hello! for your event may I request action prompt number 14 for rengoku?
please and thank you
have a good rest of your day!
YOU CAME BACK
Reblogs and Comments are greatly appreciated!!
__________________________________________________________________________
Fandom(s): Demon Slayer
Pairing(s): Rengoku Kyojuro x Reader
Prompt: Sitting at their lover’s bedside when they’re unconscious (Action Prompt #14)
Genre(s)/Tag(s): Gender Neutral!Reader, Post-Mugen Train
Notes: Mugen Train Spoilers!
Sorry it’s so short, hon! I’ve been REALLY struggling with writing these last few days.
__________________________________________________________________________
Four months, three weeks, and seven days.
Four months, three weeks, and seven days and Kyojuro has yet to wake up.
He counts the days as he floats in limbo. The clock on the wall counts the seconds. The seconds turn into minutes, turn into hours, and turn into days. And those days turn into weeks and then months.
He can feel the rough bandages itching his skin, covering his eye that had been rendered useless after the fight with Upper Moon Three. Hadn’t he said his name was Akaza?
It didn’t matter anymore.
All that matters is waking up.
That is… if he ever woke up.
Kyojuro has a myriad of visitors during his coma. The most prominent being his younger brother Senjuro, Kamado Tanjiro, Hashibira Inosuke, and Agatsuma Zenitsu.
And, of course, you.
You are the most constant visitor he has next to his brother. You sit at his side day after day, holding his hand and talking quietly to those who come in the room. Young Inosuke is quiet, something out of character for him, and everyone else tiptoes around you and Kyojuro as if scared something would go wrong.
Your hand is soft against his own calloused one. You were never one to wield a sword. Instead, you wield a needle and thread. You are a seamster, someone who made the uniforms for the demon slayers all over Japan. And a very talented one at that. You mended his uniform and even his haori more times than he cared to count.
It was how he got to know you in the first place.
You tighten your grip as he lies there in the dark, counting the seconds with every “tick, tock, tick, tock” of the clock.
“I miss you, y’know?” You whimper, and he can hear your voice crack. His heart breaks at the sound, and he wishes with all his heart that he could respond.
Then…
A gasp.
“Did you…?” You whisper, and he realizes he just twitched his fingers. He tries again, praying to whoever is listening that he will be able to—
Another gasp. Almost a cry this time. Kyojuro hears you calling for Shinobu and then your hand on his face, cradling his cheek.
“Kyojuro? Can you hear me?” You ask, and he feels his eyelashes flutter and then open.
It’s blinding for a moment. But only for a moment.
Then he sees you.
Your eyes are watery, and you have a look on your face that you’re telling yourself not to hold out hope. But when his eyes meet yours, the tears begin to fall.
Despite your joy, you are incredibly gentle with him, easing your arms around his neck and pressing the most gentle kiss to his lips that nearly has him crying. You were never this gentle. You were fierce and bold with your affection. You kissed him when you wanted and didn’t give a damn about who watched.
But now, you were so careful with your love that it made his heart ache.
“You came back!” You say tearfully, and he smiles, wrapping an arm around your waist and nosing your temple when you pull back. Just having you here, just having you with him, made it all worth it. He smiles that smile that you love so much and replies.
“I promised, didn’t I?”

Wisteria Blooms (1)
Pairing: Giyuu X Reader/ Tanjiro X Read
Desc: (Y/n) is Giyuu's Tsuguko. Ubuyashiki appointed him to train her a year after he met Tanjiro. (Y/n) has had strong feelings for the water pillar for a few months. During a mission with Giyuu she runs into the two Kamado siblings. For Tanjiro it was love at first sight. What happens when (Y/n) has to fight her feelings for not only the two slayers but also keep up with the fight against the demons?
A/N: All of the characters are slightly aged up or down to make this story work. Tanjiro will be 18 and Giyuu will be 20. (Y/n) will be 19. If anyone has any questions about the other characters ages feel free to ask.
--------------------------------------------------------------
"Get up" Giyuu's voice sounds from above you. His tone was sharp and brooding. You can feel his strong gaze on your back as you lay on the rough dirt. He was very quiet and liked to keep to himself, so none of this comes as a surprise to you. You don't want him to stop training early for the day, so you push yourself up, ignoring the earthy taste in your mouth.
"You need to be quicker" His tone doesn't seem to change as you stand up. You nod your head and retrieve your sword from the ground. Giyuu had knocked it out of your hands a few minutes earlier. You both watch each other as you walk in a circle, waiting for someone to strike. Giyuu has always been better at defending than most others so naturally, so are you. Attacking first isn't the best move for you.
Giyuu's attack is fast but not unexpected, you're able to block it but just barely. You make a quick move to the side and don't hesitate to attack. The wooden sword comes crashing down on Giyuu's. The force of it startles you a little and you have to brace yourself so you don't slip. Before you can make another move Giyuu is gone. He was quick and you knew that meant he was about to strike again. There's a small hint of movement behind you and the next second you're on the ground, again. You roll over and look at Giyuu, who has a plain expression on his face. "Again." You wipe some of the sweat off your face and listen to Giyuu, pushing yourself up.
Training continues like the for a few more hours, until the sun starts to set. "Thank you for training me, Tomioka-san" You bow at the man. He nods and hands you a small rag to wipe your face with. You smile brightly and gently wipe your forehead. The sun is almost fully gone and you sigh. "Well... looks like I only have one more week of training before final selection." You look back at Giyuu with a nervous smile. "Do you think I'll do good?"
He studies your face for a minute. Your eyes had a small look of fear in them and you seemed nervous. "You'll be fine." He seems embarrassed as he answers your question. Your suspicion is right as he instantly turns towards the house and starts walking away. "Goodnight."
You breathe a sigh of relief as you watch him walk away. "Goodnight, Tomioka-san!" Your voice rings across the training grounds. Giyuu is inside a few seconds later.
You put your training sword away and then make your way over to the small koi pond Giyuu has. "What a quiet man..." You hum to yourself and take a seat.
You had started training with Giyuu about nine months ago. Ubuyashiki was the one to assign you to the water pillar. He told you it was the easiest breathing form to learn. He also said something about he thinks it would be good for Giyuu to have someone around. You hadn't know much about the man as you made your way to his place. All you had really been told was he was quiet and that he liked to keep to himself. When you had first arrived Giyuu wouldn't even look at you, much less talk to you. Training had started almost immediately. You quickly learned water breathing wasn't for you though, so you made your own form, snow breathing. You haven't mastered every form but you're getting there.
You yawned and stood up. "I guess I should be getting some sleep. Training is just going to get harder over the next week." You quickly head inside and to the room Giyuu gave you when you first arrived. It was a small room that didn't have much in it. There was a small desk and chair, a bed, and a little dresser for your things. You fell backwards onto the bed. It didn't take you long before you passed out for the night.
Before you knew it the week had passed already. Training had continued every day until two days before final selection, Giyuu said you needed to rest. Final selection lasts a week so you couldn't be tired going in. You were nervous but excited. If you passed you would be able to fight demons and even go with Giyuu on some missions.
"Today is the day!" You woke up early to take a bath and get ready. Giyuu had given you something to wear. It was a white and blue kimono. You're not sure where he got it from.
Once you were ready you started to leave. Giyuu was already waiting for you outside. "Are you ready?" He looked you up and down, he was holding something in his hand but you couldn't tell what it was.
"As ready as I'll ever be. Thank you for the kimono. It's beautiful." You give him a small smile and bow. You swear a small blush rises to his face before he clears his throat.
"Take this, it's my old sword." He hands you a sword that looks almost identical to what he uses now. "I also... made you this." He hands you the mysterious item he was holding. It was rice balls, neatly wrapped and freshly made. You gasp and blush taking them from him. "You're going to get hungry. It's a long trip. Be safe."
He turns and heads inside before you can even say thank you. You feel your heart flutter a bit as you slip the food into your pocket. You take one last look at the front gate, and then turn and walk off.
You meet up with Kanao on the way. Shinobu had sent a letter to Giyuu asking you two to go together. Kanao wasn't good at interacting with others and Shinobu was worried about her. You and Kanao make small talk the whole way there. Well you talked for most of it. It wasn't until the last hour that she started saying small things.
"Woah... it's beautiful." You say as you both walk up the long set of stairs. There was wisteria everywhere and it seemed to be glowing slightly, probably to help people see. You both make it to the top and there are a lot of other people there. At the front is two kids. They had wisteria in their hair and they were both wearing the exact same thing, a purple kimono with a green belt. The only real difference was the color of their hair, one white and one black. These had to be Ubuyashiki's kids.
The black haired one spoke first. "Greetings everyone, thank you all for joining the final selection. There are a lot of demons held captive on this mountain brought back by demon killing swordsmen. They are unable to leave."
The white haired one speaks as soon as the first one is finished. "Because from the mountain foot to half way up, there are a lot of demon repelling wisteria that bloom all year round."
"However, from hear on out, there are no more wisteria. Only demons. If you can survive hear for seven days."
"Then you pass the final selection. Now let the final selection begin."
At those last words, everyone takes off running into the mountain. You give Kanao a nod before you both take off.

Chapter 16: Hashira
Yua’s heart was beating so fast, that she felt it in her whole body.
Nervous sweat was forming on her forehead, and her hands felt clammy, as she sat in perfect seiza before Oyakata-Sama.
The head of the Demon Slayer Corps just gave her a gentle smile.
It did calm her down a bit.
“My child.”, began he in his soothing voice. “Since you have become part of the Corps you have been an incredible swordsman. Bringing honour to the corps and your family. I heard what outstanding progress you even made these last months. You may be even stronger than dear Noritaka.”
The young woman bowed in thanks to Oyakata-Sama.
“You honour me, Master. It did what was right. Protect humanity and the people who are dear to me from the Demon Treat.”
“You did outstanding well. I fear we would have lost Kyoujurou if it wasn’t for you. Mochizuki Yua, your strength and determination are admirable. So it’s my great honour to raise you to the Rank of Hashira. The second Moon Hashira we ever had. Do you accept this honour and the duties it comes with?”
For a second Yua closed her eyes.
This was it.
This is what she had worked on her whole life.
First only to make her Grandfather proud and accept her, however, she had started to think for herself.
Thanks to Tanjiro and all the friends she had made.
There was only one answer.
***
Tired Yua opened the door of the Butterfly Mansion.
The whole Mugen Train Mission had been a whole week ago and she may not have any heavy wounds, but she had still had strained herself.
The neck of an Upper Moon was hard!
She was happy to be back at the Butterfly Mansion to get cures and rehabilitation training. She would need it.
“It’s really quiet.”, she noted out loud.
Normally at dinner time, you would hear Inosuke and Rengoku shouting over each other for food/how delicious the food was and Aoi-San chastising them.
Not even Shinobu-Sama's laughter could be heard.
Confused she took off her white-silvery booths and walked to the Dining Room.
Why was it dark in there?
“Hello anyone there?”, she called into it.
Then suddenly the lights flicked on and you could hear loud shouts of Congratulations from every corner.
Astonished Yua looked at the people inside the dining room.
Ema and her friends were holding up a banner with Welcome New Hashira. Aoi, Kanao and a woman with pink-green hair had sparklers in their hands. Shinobu-Sama and the Water Hashira were applauding, while Tanjiro, Rengoku, Inosuke and Zenitsu were throwing confetti into the air. Nezuko was waving around with two little flags with her face on it.
“What the?!”, Yua couldn’t help but shout and laugh at the same time.
“We already heard the news!”, called Shinobu-Sama over, as Yua was stormed by the little girls and Nezuko in a hug. “This is a little party for our newest Hashira!”
“Oh my Tsukuyomi you guys are crazy!”
“You deserved it, young Mochizuki!”, laughed Rengoku.
The little girls chorused a big yeah.
Yua laughed, hugged them and then Nezuko took her hand.
Her sister-in-law dragged her into the room.
In one instant she found herself in the embrace of the unknown pink-green-haired woman.
“Aww, it’s so great to meet you, Yua-Chan!”, cooed the woman. “I’m Kanroji Mitsuri or just Mitsuri the Love Hashira! I heard only good things from Shinobu-Chan and Kyoujurou-Senpai about you! I hope we can be good friends!”
Kanroji Mitsuri made her title Love Hashira all honour, Yua could see it in her pink and red Aura how sincere and loving she was.
She hugged her back.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Mitsuri-Chan. I would love to be your friend.”
A little happy Kyaah came out of Mitsuri and she hugged her tighter.
After they let go of each other Shinobu with the Water Hashira stood before her.
The Water Hashira made a little bow in her direction.
He introduced himself as Tomioka Giyuu and gave her his congratulations.
She returned the bow, hoping they would work well together as Hashira.
Then Aoi with Kanao hugged her, Kanao managed even to congratulate her all alone without throwing her coin, which made Yua proud of her.
Rengoku, with his now eyepatch, ruffled her hair and told her he couldn't wait to work with her.
Finally, she reached Tanjiro and the guys.
In the loving arms of her boyfriend, Yua felt at home.
Tanjiro chastely kissed her cheek, telling her how proud of her was and he knew she would become a Hashira.
Nearly anyone in the room awed at them.
Zenitsu and Inosuke gave their congratulations too and finally, they all could sit down to celebrate.
Shinobu-Sama told her to drop the Sama. The Insect Hashira told her the other Hashira couldn’t come, but they sent their congratulations too and would surely meet her in the next few days.
Yua accepted it, what else could she do, Aoi served the food.
The dinner party was filled with laughter and joy. Yua couldn't believe how lucky she was to have such wonderful friends and colleagues.
She had always been a bit of a loner, but since meeting Tanjiro and his friends, she had found a sense of belonging that she had never experienced before.
As they ate and talked, the grey-eyed girl felt herself relaxing for the first time in a week.
The mission on the Mugen Train had been incredibly intense, and she had pushed herself to her limits to protect her friends. But now, surrounded by people who cared about her, she could finally let go of some of that tension.
After dinner, they all gathered in the courtyard to watch fireworks.
Mitsuri had brought them as a surprise for Yua's promotion, and they were absolutely beautiful.
As they exploded overhead, Yua felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes.
She was so grateful for everything that had led her to this moment - for her family’s teachings (Besides her Grandfather with his toxins), for Tanjiro's kindness and support, and for all the friends she had made along the way.
As the night wore on and everyone started to drift off to home and/or to bed, Yua found herself walking hand-in-hand with Tanjiro through the gardens behind the mansion. They stopped by a koi pond and watched as the fish swam lazily through the water.
"I'm so proud of you," Tanjiro said softly, breaking their comfortable silence.
Yua smiled down at him. "Thank you."
"You know," he continued after a moment. "I never really believed in fate or destiny or anything like that before I met you."
The girl raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"But now," he went on, "I can't help but feel like we were meant to find each other. Like our paths were always leading us here."
“You know what made me accept being a Hashira? It was the dream I had on the Mugen Train.”, she confessed.
Surprised Tanjiro looked up at her, leaning his head on her shoulder.
“Really?”
She nodded.
“I dreamed of a world where no one in my family had to be a Demon Slayer anymore. All were so happy living their dreams. You and Nezuko were there too, your family also living the best life. I wasn’t sure what I would do, but I know I wanted to be at your side and find out who I am.”
“You were in my dream too.”, he confessed also. “You and your father had left the Mochizuki to live a simple life. You seemed so happy just to live normal.”
Grinning she kissed his temple.
“This sounds nice, but what I wanted to say is this. All my life I was told I had to become a Hashira to clean the Mochizuki name from the sins of our ancestors. I didn’t believe in the Demon Slayer Cause, because for me it just was a task I had to finish. Now after I saw what a world without demons could be...Now that’s my dream. To kill every last demon so that my family can be free and live their life how they want. To be free myself and choose the path I want to walk in life. That we all are free from them and can live simple but good lives!”
She felt how Tanjiro lay a hand on her cheek, so he could turn her head down to kiss her lips.
They shared a soft, tender kiss.
“This sounds wonderful, dearest.”, told her Tanjiro. “Besides making Nezuko human again, I want this too.”
“So we walk this way together?”
“Of course!”
Laughing their lips found each other again.
The star twinkled and the moon shone softly down on them.
They continued to walk, hand-in-hand, through the gardens, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere.
As they strolled along, Yua couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment wash over her. She had achieved her dream of becoming a Hashira, and she was surrounded by people who loved and cared for her.
It was a feeling she never wanted to let go of.
As they neared the end of the garden path, Tanjiro stopped and turned to face her. "Yua," he said softly, taking both her hands in his. "I know we've been through a lot together already, but I want you to know that I'm here for you no matter what happens."
She looked down at him with a pretty smile on her red lips.
"I know," she whispered. "And I'm here for you too."
He smiled at her and leaned in for another kiss, this one more passionate than the last. They stayed like that for a few moments before breaking apart and continuing on their way.
As they walked back towards the mansion, Yua felt more confident than ever before. She knew that there would be challenges ahead as a Hashira, but she also knew that with Tanjiro by her side, anything was possible.
Together they would fight to rid the world of demons and create a better future for all those they held dear.
As they walked into the warm glow of the Butterfly Mansion's lights, Yua knew that this was where she belonged - among friends and family who loved and supported her every step of the way.
***
Dear Father,
I’m terribly sorry that I couldn’t write sooner or come home.
The family probably heard how I was raised in Hashira four months ago.
I bet grandfather is gleeful, but I took the position not for him, but for us all.
That one day no Mochizuki has to take a Katana in his hand and fight demons.
With the help of my love and friends, we will rid this world of demons!
I promise you this.
Since I’m a Hashira now, I get the toughest missions in the Corps.
Sometimes alone, sometimes with other Hashira’s.
I found good friends in them like the Love Hashira Kanroji Mitsuri and others who are a special breed like Shinazugawa Sanemi. That guy has no eyebrows, it freaks me a bit out.
But mostly I get along with my Hashira colleagues.
I always return back to the Butterfly Mansion for cures and rehabilitation training, before going back out on missions.
Tanjiro, Zenitsu and Inosuke are also back in action.
When we all are back together we train like crazy.
The boys are getting stronger with every day.
I’m proud of them.
Kyoujurou-Senpai has returned home to be with his brother and teach himself swordsmanship with one eye.
It will take a while before he can fight demons again, however, I’m sure he will manage.
The day Tanjiro visited him to search for more clues about the Hinokami Kagura Dance had been something.
Your future son-in-law headbutted the ex-Flame Hashira, Kyoujurou-Senpai's father because he had talked bad about his children.
At least we learned a little more about the Hinokami Kagura, who apparently is Sun-Breathing the first-ever breathing technique from which all others come.
Did you know this?
It’s so crazy to think about it.
Anyway, I hope at home all is good.
When I can manage I will come back with Tanjiro to visit you all.
I miss you all so much.
Besides Grandfather, but you know this.
I will wait for an answer with a hopeful heart.
With Love, your daughter
***
Frowning Yua stared at the letter she had written.
It seemed so little, however, she couldn’t tell more about her missions.
Being a Hashira include also being secretive.
Kaguya beside her on the desk cawed.
“You are right my princess.”, mussed Yua, giving the bird pats. “More I can’t do, it’s a wonder that I’m able to write finally a letter. So, off you go.”
She gave her trusted crow the letter and Kaguya flew towards the Mochizuki Estate.
Signing Yua leaned on the chair she was sitting on.
She was as only one from their little group back in the Butterfly Mansion.
The midnight blue-haired beauty hadn’t seen her boyfriend in a good three days, she formally ached for him.
Blushing she scratched a cheek of her.
They were now together for a good six months...Yua felt that she was ready to go the next big step with Tanjiro...they already started to get more handsy with each other...should she talk with him about this matter when he returned?
That’s when she heard a loud ruckus coming from outside the Mansion.
“What the?”, she grasped her Katana and ran out of the room.
As she came nearer the ruckus, she felt familiar Aura’s.
“Tengen?”, she mumbled confused. “What is he doing here, where are his wives?”
Also, she noted happily that Tanjiro and Nezuko were back, as Zenitsu and Inosuke.
“What is going on!”, she shouted as she finally was outside.
The picture before her was priceless.
Ema and her friends hissed at Tengen's pervert. Aoi seemed ready to murder someone, Kanao was unsure but standing protective before the other Butterfly Mansion girls.
Her boyfriend and her two male friends had drawn their Katana at Tengen, while the former Shinobi just deadpanned at them.
“Oh Yua, it’s you.”, greeted her Tengen. “I actually want to have you with me on this mission with these three unflashy guys.”
“What mission and where are you wives?”, she asked back confused.
“The number one spot in Japan that’s dripping with lust and desire, a super-flashy place… the Entertainment District where demons reside.”
Why did Yua get the feeling that it would be a really hard mission?

heyyy, btw i hope you liked the story I wrote for you<33
can you write Tanjiro x fem reader for a royal au where Tanjiro is in charge of testing all food and drinks for the royal family to make sure it’s not poisoned by sniffing it? like maybe one day the chef just brings out the food and tanjiro doesn’t get to test it and it turns out the chef put something like cyanide in the reader’s tea or something like that and Tanjiro like runs in and quickly takes the tea from her before she can drink it.
Oooh! I really like the Royal AU aspect, it’s so smart! I’ve honestly been a roll with Tanjiro too and I’m all for it~! I love this angel of sunshine so much!
Kamado Tanjiro- Wait, Your Majesty
“My princess~!” Tanjiro, the Royal Poison Detector bowed politely as you giggled at his adorable, optimistic voice and passed him with a unwanted heavy heart. You didn’t want him to have to wait outside, you wanted him to come inside and eat with you
His job, at the castle of the royals, was to smell the supplies of foods and drinks shipped over from other kingdoms and from the kingdom’s own markets for any trance of deadly laces. You, alongside your parents, highly valued him and his incredible sense of smell, he was such a high position for something as simple as smelling food for poison, and it was why he got such a hefty check
He constantly protects your lives, from disease and from assassins with poison. Anything rotten or foul-smelling, the servants took Tanjiro’s word and immediately threw the food out. No matter how much it took to make it nor how safe it seemed
The King, your father, was truly thankful to Tanjiro over and over, for constantly protecting the lives of his beloved family and he was willingly to keep up his payment to the young man. He knew well that Tanjiro doesn’t lie, it’s impossible for such a loveable character to be twisted and lie, and the King even tested Tanjiro before he was hired as a precaution, the experiment was such a success that none of the royals doubted Tanjiro’s ability
Tanjiro wholeheartedly cared for the health and safety of his kingdom’s royalty, as he cared for the people like him’s health and safety. Tanjiro doesn’t really remember how he managed to land this role but he is always happy to be of service. On a cool but dazzling night, Tanjiro alongside a pair of highly-trained royal knights guarded the large entrance of the dining room. Tanjiro, himself, had lots of knight training and he could fight if he needed
Almost all knights he trained with proclaimed he was on a level of a prodigy as he mastered specific techniques and movements with little fail. Tanjiro is truly incredible and you knew that well, more than your parents did, you had developed a crush on the “lowly, coal boy”, the more you spent time with him
The dining room consisted of the King and Queen with their one and only daughter, you. Finishing up their lunch as you begin to crave a sweet treat as a nice touchup from your truly incredible dinner, asking the butler politely for a chocolate moose. Neither of your parents argued with your wants, you’re in charge of your own body and nobody can tell you what to do
“Royal Poison Detector, come” A friendly yet partly-exhausted maid remarked when she strolled up to him as Tanjiro immediately skipped over to her to follow her to the grand and familiar kitchen of the palace. Such a huge area that smelt like a culinary heaven, potent with savoury chicken, vegetables and pastries. Tanjiro smiled sweetly at the hardworking patrons of the castle as he watched them work vigorously
He felt truly pampered as a worker of the palace as compared to them. All he did to earn money and love from the royal family was sniff foods and shipments for anything fishy, he didn’t work his back off. Though, he was always willing to be around for you, the crowned princess, when no other knight was available or simply when you asked him too
It’s the least he can do
He suspected a wave of beautiful dishes to be presented to him by the many chefs but before the one glass of chocolate moose, in which he guessed was order by you or the Queen. The infamous King entered the kitchen and snapped his fingers for Tanjiro’s attention, ignoring the number of maids and butlers. Of course, Tanjiro immediately listened to his King’s orders and approached him with that unchanging, heart-fluttering beam. He must have wanted his services elsewhere?
It was simple and it made Tanjiro laugh a bit. The King wanted advice on princes of choice for you and he figured to ask the only other teenager your age and he was thankful that one is a boy. He may know the type of guy you would want and Tanjiro was surprised by the King’s rockiness. He understood well that he wanted the right suitor for his daughter and Tanjiro gave the older man his best opinion
As usual of the entire palace, the King took his word and flashed a grateful smile. He did that a lot and he wouldn’t stop. To him and his wife, Tanjiro is one of the most important workers they have
“Thank you, Tanjiro, my boy. Please return to your services now” Tanjiro nodded without a single ounce of refusal and turned around to be met with the eyes of a chef but nothing. Wait, where is the chef with the dessert? He hadn’t gotten the chance to smell the glass, it was his job to protect the family as he took a deep breath to try locate a trail leading out of the miniature ballroom-sized kitchen
And he did find a trail after only a few seconds of closing his eyes and smelling as deeply as he could… a disgusting smell trail
Poison! The dessert is poisoned!
“WAIT! MY PRINCESS!” Tanjiro called out at the top of his lungs, effectively alerting you to draw the sweet contents of the moose from your lips before anything could touch the skin. Your mother and father were equally as alarmed, they never argued with Tanjiro’s remarks. If he said something was poison, it was poison!
Tanjiro had sprinted out of the room and threw the doors open with heaves for air as he only thought to get that dessert away from you, the mere millisecond he realised he could smell a pungent thread of poison in the air. He can’t be too late to protect the family, no! He can’t! Thankfully, he had caught you, just in time before you took the first bite of your craved dessert
Oh thank goodness… he saved you
“IT’S POISON! DON’T EAT IT!” He was sprinting full speed to the table without a second to take a breath, he didn’t get to smell it as he was occupied discussing a important task with the King. Shit, no, he seriously hoped you didn’t take a bite of that moose, it didn’t seem like you did! His eyes didn’t trick him, were they? He could smell the hints of poison, such a powerful poison dumped inside the thick chocolate substances
It was disgusting… so thick and suffocating. What a nasty, chemical-like smell…
You dropped the spoon instantly once looking at his concerned plum reds, the spoonful of moose landing messily on the silky red sheet of the dinning table as Tanjiro scooped up the dessert-filled glass from in front of you and dumped all of the jello-ey sweet into the nearby bin with a sigh of relief. That awful potent smile of medicinal-like chemicals is finally gone. You’re safe again, though, he felt bad for interrupting the privacy of the royal family’s dinnertime
It’s not like the King and Queen would ever get mad at him for protecting their daughter. He was their savourer
Your father was furious at the fact poison was even inserted inside the dessert. What chef made the desert?! Has a assassin infiltrated the royal grounds?! He gruffly ordered every guard the kingdom had inside the walls to fish out the many high-grade chefs working under the kitchen roof and Tanjiro, using his mighty hound senses, effectively sniffed out the culprit from the long line of horrified persons
“This one, your majesty! He has some type of poison inside his pocket!” Tanjiro’s confident-toned statement was right as a plastic bottle of deadly cyanide pills was drawn out from the chef’s uniform pocket when the guards tackled him to the floor. Tanjiro was always right, he never got anything wrong and you felt yourself falling deeper in love with the Royal Poison Detector standing before you, he kept saving you over and over
He is so selfless and brave, yet he was polite and he apologised to your understanding parents for ruining the dinner. You didn’t even care if he accidentally poured wine all over your gown, you just love him. You’ve always loved Tanjiro and whatever suitor your father wanted you to marry wouldn’t be like him. He would accompany you at night anytime you felt uncomfortable and he was at your doorstep in a instant
Sure, he was just the Royal Poison Detector to your parents and to the palace’s systems but to you, he was like a personal bodyguard and your crush. He waited on your hand and foot with zero problem, he’d make such a great King to you. Tanjiro was truly honoured to serve the crowned princess as she pleased, from the bottom of his heart
What working class man like himself wouldn’t want to help such a beautiful advisory, like yourself
“I’m very glad you didn’t take a bite of that moose, your majesty. But don’t worry now, you’re safe”

Tokito Muichiro x FEM reader !!
Series !!?!
Querencia
(n.) a place from which one's strength is drawn, where one feels at home; the place where you are your most authentic self
• Querencia is a metaphysical concept in the Spanish language. The term comes from the Spanish verb "querer," which means to want, to desire, and to love.
ᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 .ᐟ in which two teenagers who hate one another and one's who suffer with problems will slowly fall for one another
Warnings? !:
This book will have mentions of the following below:
Abuse
Alcohol
Drugs
Smoking
Suicide
Self loathing
SA
And maybe other sensitive topics
If you are not comfortable with any of that this book might not be your cup of tea.
Before you go on, yes I am aware that tokito muichiro is a 14 year old boy so in this fic he will be aged up to the age of 17-16 but keep in mind they will not be any smut because I will not be comfortable of writing anything like that. There will be kissing, cuddling, flirting, dirty jokes and sexual tension but it will not escalate any further. Tokito Muichiro is a canon minor character so I will not be comfortable writing it obviously.
I planned this book with a friend @pasteriies so I will not be taking all credits for this fan fiction. I got inspired to do this fic by an author who I don't remember their tag but I was inspired by their book heartache. It's another tokito muichiro fan fiction I recommend to read but I assure you, my story will not have anything similar to theirs, at least I don't think so, maybe the similar in the dark theme but nothing else.

I am still trying to improve my english so my use of vocabulary and grammar will not be advanced nor perfect as english is not my native tongue and it isn't my first language so please bare with me here. I promise you my English isn't bad it just needs a little reshaping
I do not tolerate plagiarism, this fic will be written in my tumblr account _shixhiro_ and my Wattpad account. If I see any of my fics being used in other platforms or other users you will be blocked but I don't mind taking inspirations just like I did with mine. I hope the author of the book I was inspired by doesn't mind that I was inspired to write a book of muichiro because of them. I assure you once more I was merely inspired and I will not be taking any of what you've written in your book !!
Reblogs appreciated !!

Hello! Hope you’re doing well!
I absolutely loved your Tanjiro x Haganezuka’s daughter piece! It was just too cute!
May I request one with Tanjiro x Urokodaki’s daughter? She’d probably be really strong and train with Tanjiro, finally convincing her dad to let her become a Slayer, only to get lectured after accidentally falling on top of him or something because Urokodaki can just smell the puppy love brewing between the both of them!
Sorry, got a little carried away! 💗 Tanjiro is just too cute!
I’m most likely going to come back here, so if it’s alright, I’d love to be your 🌺 Anon! Sending lots of love and good vibes your way!
TANJIRŌ W/ UROKODAKI’S DAUGHTER!READER
pairing: Kamado Tanjirō x fem!reader
genre: angst in the beginning, mention of canonical character death, fluff later on
Words: 7.5k (buckle up ppl, it's a long one)
a/n: I was so excited when I first read this ask! I’m sorry it took so long for me to get to it! And yes, you can 100% be 🌺anon (≧▽≦)
Urokodaki and his wife have had a hard time conceiving, and as they grew older, they resigned themselves to accepting that they will not have a child of their own, no matter how much it pained them.
In a way, they had tried to fill the void by adopting and taking in orphaned children, but that doesn’t mean they don’t come to love them any less. Some of them eventually leave to forge their own lives when they become adults, while some decided to follow in Urokodaki’s footsteps and become a Demon Slayer.
Knowing the dangerous nature of the job, he vehemently denied the request, but after seeing the relentlessness and determined nature of his child, he finally relented. When it came time to send his first student off to the Final Selection, he and his wife did so with a heavy heart.
When their child never came home no matter how long they wait, they buried their memories and a piece of their heart at Mount Sagiri.
(Urokodaki would refuse to train anyone else for years to come, but there are always those who managed to convince him otherwise.)
Nevertheless, his household is one that always ring with laughter and joy, a household that sticks together through the hard times, holding each other close and wiping away each other’s tears.
So when you came to this world, it was to a home overflowing with love.
You were their miracle baby, a blessing from the gods, the light that makes their world brighter. When the news was announced, there was not one dry eye in the house. Suddenly, everyone became even more overprotective of your mother when she was pregnant with you, and she had to scold her husband and her children several times for coddling her.
When you came into this world, your brothers and sisters take turns holding you, cooing and feeling their hearts bursting from the sight of your smile.
You grew up in a world like that — protected and loved and never lonely.
They would sneak you sweets and gifts they got from the nearby town, and sometimes those training would let you hold their swords for a moment, at the expense of being reprimanded by Urokodaki. You were spoiled beyond compare.
When your mother was taken by a swift but deadly illness while you were still too young to register death, your family did what they always do — mourn in each other’s arms, and slowly piece everyone back together.
If possible, your father became even more protective of you. He has lost too much. His comrades, his friends, his wife, his students and children. It would break him entirely to lose you, too.
You grew up in a home that protected and love you, but also a home that grieves for the lost souls that will never be able to find their way back. Over the years, you’ve watched all of your father’s apprentices leave the safe embrace of Mt. Sagiri, a sword by their hip, a fox mask by the side of their face, and hope shining in their eyes.
“Otou-san.” You tugged your father’s sleeve. “Where are they going?”
“To hopefully make the world a better place.” “When are they coming back?” “Soon, my daughter. I pray every day that it would be soon.”
Many of them promised you that they will come back and play with you. Many of them broke their promises.
One year, your father rescued two boys, Sabito and Giyū, whose families were both eaten by demons. You immediately took to them, constantly trailing behind them and jumping onto their backs. They in turn dote on you, keeping you company whenever they weren’t training. You would sit on the ground to watch them spar with your father, twirling the grass under your fingers and giggling when they were swiftly disarmed.
You didn’t really understand why they were training. You had an inkling of the demons beyond the safe vicinity of the mountain from the stories your other siblings would tell you, but other than that you couldn’t grasp why they were serious about it.
“Sabito-nii, why are you and Giyū-nii training with father?” You asked him one day.
“Because there’s dangerous creatures out there who would stop at nothing to kill humans, and there are only a select few who could deal with them.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know, (Y/N)-chan, maybe that’s just the way of the world. We’re no matched for the strength of demons, so we must become stronger.” “But why you and Giyū-nii?”
He patted your head softly, a tender but sad look in his eyes. “So that no one would have to go through what we went through.”
Their training continued, progressing from proper breathing lessons to when their blades are suddenly embraced by foamy, cerulean blue waves that twist around one another. Your eyes would shine with delight whenever you catch their fluid movements.
The day comes when both of your brothers have to leave, just like all the other apprentices before them. Your heart sank to the pits of your stomach the night before, making you unable to sleep even a wink. What if they don’t return as well?
The next morning, you stubbornly cling to them, refusing to let go even when your father scolds you.
“But I don’t want you to go!” You exclaimed.
“Come one, (Y/N)-chan. It’ll only be for a little while. Sabito and I will be back before you know it.”
“Promise?” “Promise.”
About a week went by without any sign of them returning, and you’ve never felt so on edge. You started to stand outside diligently to hopefully catch a glimpse that peach shade of Sabito’s hair and the deep blue of Giyū’s eyes, only coming inside when your father urged you.
Finally, one misty morning, you were out pulling weeds in the garden when you spotted a head of thick jet-black hair from up the road. Your eyes widened when you saw the familiar figure trudging down towards the house.
“Otou-san!” You shouted as you ran towards him. “Giyū-nii is home!!!”
You resisted the urge to tackle him into a hug once you saw his fatigued and wounded state. Nevertheless, your heart soared in happiness.
“Giyū-nii! You’re back! Are you hurt anywhere?” Your eyes roam over him, wincing at the amount of dirt on his clothes. But your brother was unresponsive and dazed, even when your father put a hand on his shoulder. Something itched in the back of your mind, and your stomach twisted unexpectedly when you felt like something was not right.
“Giyū-nii,” you began slowly, your eyes darting all over the place. “Where is Sabito-nii?”
His silence was answer enough.
Nothing was ever the same after that. You’re no stranger to lost, but it didn’t stop your heart from cleaving into two and the tears from running down your face at night. Not when a piece of you seems to die every time you’re met with your father’s silent grieving, or heard the sobs from your brother that he so desperately tried to hide.
You were both just children grasping with death.
When it was time for him to leave and officially embark on his journey, it was pouring like they had never seen before. Perhaps that was best. Perhaps then none of them would notice the tears.
Your home became quieter. Still filled with love, but more somber somehow. Laughter came a little harder for you, and each time you watch the sunset, you can’t help but feel your shoulders become heavier, as if the twilight was a corporeal thing that weighed down on you.
For a while, it was only you, your father, and the silence. But that all changed when a little girl around your age stumbled into your lives.
Like many siblings before, Makomo came to your home unexpectedly, and yet it also felt like fate. She lit up the whole house with her gentle smiles and brightness, restoring some of the warmth that have been lost.
You take to her immediately, spending your days braiding flowers into each other’s hair and running through the mountains until you can draw a map with your eyes closed. You felt your soul healing in the presence of her calming demeanor. She became a sister that you could unconditionally trust to always have your back. Imagine your horror when she too was determined to walk down the same treacherous path.
“Makomo-chan! You can’t!” You tearfully protested. “It’s too dangerous!”
‘What if she doesn’t come back?’ The sentence replayed over and over in your head like a broken mantra, and you were once more squeezed by multiple stabs of fear and anxiety. Your father shared the same sentiments as you, and firmly denied her request.
How could he forgive himself if he let someone as young as her entrench herself into such a cruel world.
But Makomo was resilient and stubborn. She would sneak out and practice with a sword and had even somehow been able to grasp the basics of Total Concentration Breathing. When asked, she only smiled mysteriously and told you that she had some help.
When your father saw that his warnings fell on deaf ears and after seeing how much she improved, he finally caved in and took her as his apprentice.
To say that you were unhappy with the decision would be an understatement. You watched her train and become more graceful and quick on her feet, dread pooling in your stomach with every progress and injuryYou and your father hugged her and sent her on her way, and it felt like goodbye. You prayed to any gods that were willing to listen to protect her and bring her back to you.
You stayed by her side, occasionally offering her tips from what you’ve observed from the other students. You bandaged every single wound, lightly chastising her and telling her to be more careful next time. Her only response was to smile and thank you. The more you did this, the more you couldn’t help but wonder about her willingness to put herself on the line to help fight demons, and whether if there’s anything more that you could do.
As you had expected, she passed your father’s final trial. That night, you sleep in the same bed as Makomo, putting your arms around her and pulling her so close that it was difficult to tell where you end and where she began. You didn’t want to let go.
You and your father hugged her and sent her on her way, and it felt like goodbye. You prayed to any gods that were willing to listen to protect her and bring her back to you.
The gods too, did not answer them.
The pain coursed through your body like a beast made of liquid fire, clawing at your insides and erupting from your throat as you cried in your father’s arms. You cried until you became numb, until every muscle in your body feels like it had been crushed by the weight of your grief. Her grave was marked alongside the others. Wherever she was, she held a piece of your soul with her.
It was you, your father, and the silence, once more.
One afternoon, you return from working in the garden to see your father reading a letter, Giyū’s crow perch on his shoulder. Your spirit lifts momentarily, relieved that he is still doing well.
It’s hard to read your father due to the mask he wears, but from the way he grips the paper tightly and crinkling it, it can’t be good news.
“Otou-san, what is it?”
He lifts his head to look at you, then fold the letter and tucking it into his kimono before going back inside. “I need to go for a bit, (Y/N). Stay here, and prepare for some visitors.”
You only manage to blink a few times before he’s out the door again. Even at his age, he is still as fast as a Demon Slayer at their prime. As you prepare the ingredients for dinner, you wonder who the visitor could be.
You get your answer later that day, when your father comes back with a young boy in tow. Your father looked like he didn’t even break a sweat, but the boy trailing behind him seemed as if though he’s fighting for every breath. With a basket strap to his back, you can understand why that’s the case.
“Otou-san, who is this?” “This is Kamado Tanjirō. He’ll be staying with us for the night,” he says simply. “This is my daughter, (Y/N).”
You bow in greeting as he walks through the door. You watch in curiosity as he unwraps the basket, unveiling a sleeping girl tucked inside.
You would have reacted in horror if not for the fact that your father is being so calm about it, but it doesn’t stop you from wondering what’s going on.
“This is my sister, Nezuko. She’s…um…” Tanjirō looks to your father, asking for help.
“We’ll take care of her,” your father says. You quickly catch on and run inside to fetch a pillow and blanket, temporarily laying her on the ground until you can arrange a futon for her. “But for now, you and I will be climbing the mountain.”
With those words, it dawns on you. Here’s another person hoping to become your father’s student and become a Demon Slayer. All of his prospects go through the same process, and climbing the mountain is only the beginning of the trials they will face.
When your father returns, he fills you in on the situation. Your heart drops in sympathy when you hear that their family was killed by demons, and flinch when it’s revealed that the girl sleeping so peacefully near the crackling hearth is a demon.
“Otou-san, how can this be? She seems nothing like the demons you would tell me about.” “You feel it too, don’t you (Y/N)? She’s different from any demon I’ve encountered before. It’s like she’s still human somewhere in that body of hers.”
You look back down at Nezuko. It’s difficult to reconcile the image of blood-thirsty demons that has been instilled into you since childhood. Those that pillaged villages and killed without mercy. Those that…
You clench your hands into fists. It’s definitely difficult, and if both your father and Giyū are willing to put their trust into her, then you can try as well.
The first threads of dawn are beginning to slip through the horizon, and Tanjirō has yet to return from the mountain. You fidget in your seat, your eyes flickering every few minutes to the door, ears train to see if you can pick up the sound of any footsteps. You’re torn between wanting to see him succeed and fail. If he does, then you’re afraid that he’ll become another lamb on its way to slaughter. But if he doesn’t, then which other path can he walk on to restore his sister’s humanity?
In the midst of battling with yourself, your ears perk up at the sound of heavy footsteps. You whip your head to the door the same time your father does, and a second later it slams open to reveal a dirtied and injured Tanjirō, blood flowing from his head and shoulder.
“I’m…back…” He pants and is only able to utter before he collapses by the door frame. You rush to his side, preparing to carry him inside and treat his wounds. You look to your father, who stands stoic and in silent contemplation. You know that he has made his decision.
Every early morning, even before the sun rises, your father and Tanjirō would make their way up the mountain to begin their training. You would look after the still slumbering Nezuko, and then bring lunch to wherever they are. After having lunch with them, you would stay for a while to watch them train. In the evenings, you would take care of any injuries Tanjirō incurred throughout the day.
Your talks with him are often short, something to fill in the silence while you bandage him up. You’re grateful that he isn’t the type to pry, and instead is content with letting the conversation flow wherever it may. Your heart is still healing, and you’ve yet to recover the strength to open those scars again.
But the more time you spend around him, the more you realize that it’s terrifyingly easy to put your guard down around him. It’s like he has a soothing and warming aura radiating from him, causing you to unable to resist melting in his presence. It feels both familiar and so wildly foreign to you, that at times you’re unsure how to act around him.
Your father is harsher on Tanjirō than with any of his other students, and you can understand why. His improvement is gradual, and it’s clear that he doesn’t have the raw talent that Sabito and Makomo had. But what he lacked in talent, he made it up with determination.
Even on what is supposed to be his rest days, he would be out swinging his sword and working on his breathing. During those times, you would make sure that he’s eating and not neglecting yourself.
“You’re thinking too hard about it,” you say as you watch him try to master Total Concentration Breathing. “You have to be more subtle about it. Here, close your eyes.” You stand up and approach him. “Try to imagine the air as water. Let it enter you.” You close your eyes and breathe along with him. “Imagine it moving through every part of you.” You trail your fingers down his arms. “Feel it in every cell and vein, feel it touch you and flow around you. See the difference?”
“I-I think so.” You open your eyes to smile, and that’s when you realized that his hands are now clasped tightly in yours, and the distance between you two is too close for comfort.
You drop his hands like they’re hot coals, a blush quickly rising to your cheeks. “Sorry!”
“N-no, it’s okay.” As opposed to your worryingly flaming face, his cheeks only had a tinge of pink. “But thank you, (Y/N)-san! I understand now.”
“It’s-it’s nothing. Just something I picked up while watching others train.” “Just from watching? That’s amazing! I’m surprised you’re not training already. You would leave me in the dust.”
“…You think so?” “I know so. Just last week you helped me with my stance and how to properly swing my sword. And you seem to already know how to do Total Concentration Breathing.” He pauses and begins his next sentence tentatively. “Sorry if this is rude of me, but I’m just wondering why you haven’t become Urokodaki-san’s student yet.”
You tilt your head, giving thought to his question. “Honestly, I’m not sure. I guess it’s partly because I know how it feels to be the person on the other side. I don’t think I could bear putting my father through having to worry about me like that. But at the same time, it’s not like I haven’t thought about it before. I don’t know though…”
Can you do it? Can you actually take up a sword and leave everything behind? Knowing that you're risking everything and never come back?
But…maybe then you can go and explore beyond the mountain. Maybe you can help other families sleep better at night. Children won’t have to look behind their back in fear of things creeping in the dark. No one would have to go through what you went through.
“Well, whatever you decide.” Tanjirō pats your shoulder reassuringly. “I believe it’ll be the right decision.”
“No.”
You’ve expected this response from your father, but it didn’t cause you to flinch any less. “But otou-san–”
“No means no, (Y/N). I will not allow you to become a Demon Slayer.” “But I’ve been watching you teach for years! I know how to do Total Concentration Breathing, and I basically know all the stances by heart. If only you would let me try, then I know I can master them!” “And you know perfectly well how dangerous is it.”
“Of course I know!” You can’t help but raise your voice a little. “And how many more have to lose their lives? I’m sick and tired of sitting around and doing nothing, waiting for the next bad news. I want to do something to help!” “And you’re already doing that by staying here and being safe.”
“Maybe I don’t want to be coddled and safe anymore!” Your chest heaves and you turn around, unable to bear looking at his masked face any longer. “I just wish you would believe in your daughter a little more.” With that, you walk out the door, ignoring the words of your father.
Your legs take you to the huge frothing waterfall a distance away from your house, a favorite place of yours when you want some peace and quiet. It’s just you and the sound of rushing water to drown out your thoughts. Or so you thought.
“(Y/N)-san.” Your soul nearly left your body. You wildly turn around to see that Tanjirō had followed you.
“Tanjirō-san! You scared me to death! How did you even find me?” He taps his nose and that’s all you needed to know. “…Right. Well, you’re welcome to sit next to me, since you’re here already.”
He takes your invitation. “I just want to know how you’re doing.” You hug your knees to your chest and sigh. “Thanks. Sorry you had to hear that, by the way. I understand where my father’s coming from, I really do. But at the same time, I can’t help but think he thinks I’m not enough in his eyes, like I’m still a baby that needs to be cocooned. But I’ve been by the sidelines for so long, always watching and worrying and feeling useless. If I have the ability to, I should stand up and do something. Shouldn’t I?”
“Hey.” Tanjirō places a warm hand on your shoulder. “You’re not useless. You take care of the whole household. You cook for us and remind us to take a break. You give me advice, encouragement, and always take care of me when I get injured. I think you’re already incredible as you are. But if you believe you can do something more, then I say go for it! I’ll support you!”
“Really?” You ask, eyes wide in wonder at his words. He nods, and you know it to be true. You feel your fingertips become tingly, and all the water in this world could not wash away the bubble of warmth in your body. “Thank you.”
You scoot a little closer to him, content to be in his presence. Nothing needed to be said that isn’t already felt in the blank spaces of your words.
When you return, your father is waiting for you, his arms crossed. You gulp, knowing that you’re in big trouble, but you stand your ground anyways.
“Tanjirō, go inside. I need to speak to my daughter privately.” “Yes, Urokodaki-san.” He gives you an encouraging look and heads inside, leaving you and your father alone. The tension is so thick you can cut through it with a sword, and your foot fidgets in anticipation of who will be speaking first.
“I made a promise to your mother,” your father begins, and that makes everything you’re going to say go back down your throat. “That I would keep you safe, and make sure no harm comes to you.”
You hang your head, that familiar wisp of sadness creeping up on you. Over the years, you’ve heard many stories about your mother, wanting to know everything about her to fill in the gaps of your memories, selfishly clinging to the last vestiges of her presence that you can remember.
“But I’ve also made another promise to her, that I’ll always make you happy,” he continues. “And if this is truly the path you want to take, then I’ll fulfill your wish.” You whip your head up at his words, surprise overtaking your face. “But just because you’re my daughter doesn’t mean I'll go easy on you, do you understand? If at any point I deem you not suitable, I’ll pull you from training.”
“Yes, otou-san!” “Good, then be up by 4 am tomorrow.”
If he’s already hard on Tanjirō, then he’s hard on you 10 times over. If Tanjirō has to swing his sword 1000 times, you have to do it 2000 times. If he only has to descend the mountain 2 times, you have to do it 5 times. If he has to stay under the waterfall for 5 minutes, you have to do it for 15. But you take it all in stride, finally being able to find an outlet for your pent up energy over the years.
You and Tanjirō becomes closer due to this, bonding over your shared misfortune of being tortured mentored by the former Water Hashira. One some days you would spar with him, eager to see how much you’ve improved.
Today, you’ve managed to disarm him and goes through the motion to pin him to the ground, but a miscalculation quickly cause you to lose your balance. Before you know it, you let out a yelp and is dragged to the ground with him. You brace for impact, but your fall is broken by a soft weight below you. That weight being of course no one else but your sparring partner.
You open your eyes and is mortified to see Tanjirō staring back at you, your noses almost touching one another. From this proximity, you’re able to see the closer the soft gradient of his dark maroon eyes, like embers blazing in the hearth. Your body is pressed against his, his arms settled lightly at your waist no doubt to soften your fall. Your eyes unconsciously travel down to his lips for a brief moment, but enough for you to begin scolding yourself incessantly for the intrusive thought that runs through your mind.
“Kamado Tanjirō!” Your father’s voice booms through the field. “What do you think you’re doing?”
You and him immediately scramble away from one another, faces so red that even a ripe tomato would be jealous. Your father stares down at the both of you, the silence even more unbearable with the menacing aura radiating from him.
“1000 sword swings from you, Tanjirō. And you, (Y/N), I’m going to properly teach you how to stay on your feet.”
You both shiver, the calm way he said it making it sound even more cold to your ears. “Y-yes sir.”
6 months go by, and Nezuko have yet to wake up. Even when the doctor assures that there’s nothing wrong with her, you still can’t help but worry about her. 6 months go by, and your father declare that he has nothing more to teach you.
You and Tanjirō look at each other with surprise. While you know what’s coming next, you’re astonished when instead of leading you up to the mountain towards a boulder like Tanjirō, your father leads you to the waterfall where you’ve spent countless days training.
You look to your father for answers, but he is quiet against the mighty rush of the water.
“This will be your final task. With your sword, part this waterfall in half. Do this, and I will allow you to attend the Final Selection.”
Your eyes nearly pop out of your sockets at what he said. Water in its essence is fluid and flexible, capable of taking any shape or form. It flows wherever it wants, unyielding to the obstacles in its way. How could you hope to conquer it with your blade?
“Otou-san! But–” “Prove yourself to me, my daughter.” With that, he turns around and leave without another word, no matter how many times you shout and urge him.
True to his words, he did not teach you or give you any more explanation. The first time you attempt to do what he wanted, all you got back was a mouthful of foamy water. You’re hit with the realization of how much you still have to learn. For the first 6 months, you devote yourself to honing your knowledge and fortifying your previous training. You work until you feel your arms fall off every night, until all the breathing forms are engraved into your very bones. And still, you make no progress.
There are days when you feel worthless, and the last thing you want to do is hold a sword. During those times, you resign yourself to sit by the river, skipping stones and filling your mind with questions and memories. You wonder how Tanjirō’s doing. Has he made any progress with the boulder yet? You can’t help but miss him. You’ve only realized how much time you spend with him once you’re apart. You miss having him there to encourage you when the training becomes too much, miss laughing whenever both of you would end up on the ground, tired beyond belief. Miss eating meals with him and sharing happier stories about your childhood. Miss tucking him into bed and sitting by him in this very spot even on nights when you’re both yawning.
Your father has forbidden you to go see him to allow both of you to focus on your task, but what’s the harm in one little peek? You know the way by heart, and soon you arrive at that familiar clearing. As you’ve expected, he’s already hard at work, but the person he’s fighting makes your blood turn cold.
You would recognize that peach shade anywhere. You see it every day in the sunset. You open your mouth, but no words leave them. You’re frozen, unable to do anything but watch as Tanjirō and your (dead) brother encircle each other. Blood rushes to your head and you feel like you might faint. Your vision becomes blurry, the dance of their swords become streaks of light. You brace against a tree, and out of the corner of your eyes you see another sight that makes your world tumble and your heart to lurch into your throat.
“...Ma...komo?”
Her smile is as gentle as you remember it. Everything about her is just as you remember it, like a pristine memory come to life. She nods at you and gestures for you to follow her deeper into the woods. Against all reason (of which you have none at this moment), you follow her drowsily. This has to be a dream. You’ve hit your head while making your ascent and now you’re dreaming. This has to be the only reason.
But then she leads to a spot so familiar to the both of you, and for the first time since you’ve seen her you have to wonder if you’re not actually hallucinating. She turns, and her voice is just as you remember it. “Hi, (Y/N)-chan.”
Gods, you feel like throwing up.
“Makomo...how...? How?” You’re only able to mutter. She sits you down and explain everything, about how she’s tied to this mountain, and how countless students before her have also found their way back here.
“So the person who helped train you...” “Was Sabito, yes.” “Why didn’t you tell me?” “I wanted to, I really did. But Sabito wanted me to focus on my training. And...he didn’t want to stop you and Urokodaki-san from moving on.”
You twist your hands into the grass, sorrow coiling tightly around your stomach. “So...I’m guessing that Sabito-nii is helping Tanjirō grow stronger.” “He is. Tanjirō has a lot of potential, he just has to learn how to unlock it. As do you. We’re all so happy when you began training, you know. You’ve become so strong.” “But not strong enough to finish my father’s trial.”
Makomo sits pensively. “Maybe you’re approaching it the wrong way. Remember what Urokodaki-san told us when we were learning the forms?” “Become one with the water. Do not resist its flow. Embrace it, and it will answer your call.” “I think that’s something to think about.”
You let her words sink into you. “Okay, I’ll give it some thought.” Makomo stands up. “It’s time for me to go back. But (Y/N)-chan, I must ask you a favor. Can you keep the truth from Tanjirō? We don’t want him to be distracted from his progress.”
“But can I see you again?” She shakes her head. “No, (Y/N)-chan. You must also focus on your own self. But know this. We are all watching you, and we will always be by your side.” “...Then this is goodbye.” “Only for now, we will meet again.”
“Tell Sabito-nii I still think of him. That every time I make mushroom nabe I would still remember him, and that there will be a day when I watch the sunset and feel happy.” “I will.” “Goodbye, dear sister.”
A few more months pass, and despite Makomo’s advice, you have still yet to put her words to good use, no matter how much you’ve tried. But you can’t give up now, not when you know you have everyone’s trust in you.
It is near the hour of twilight, and you’re sitting on a rock underneath the waterfall, letting the waves pour down on you. Your eyes are closed, and all the sounds of the world are lost on you. You tune out the sensations of your body, your heart, your mind, every muscle and vein, until they’re nothing but water. You slowly rise to your feet and lift your sword, but instead of resisting, you succumb to the weight. You let it guide you, trusting it to show you the way. It answers your call. You swing.
You open your eyes, and your jaw drops. The current of the waterfall is perfectly split into two, the resulting drops of water flying from your blade like bejeweled dew against a backdrop of pink that extends its darkening arms toward the golden sunset. Entranced by the sight, you only notice your father and Tanjirō when they’re by your side. Tanjirō’s eyes are as wide with wonder as yours, while your father is hard to read as ever.
“I had no intention of sending you or Tanjirō to the Final Selection,” he finally says. “I could not bear to lose any more of my students, nor can I bear to lose my only daughter. But you’ve surpassed all of my expectations. Perhaps it’s time for me to realize you’re not that same little girl who would cling to me anymore.” He takes you into his arms, and no matter what he says, you’ll always feel like a little girl when you hug him. “You’ve become so strong, my daughter.”
That night, you’re barely able to sleep, and even though you should be sick of the waterfall at this point, you can’t help but sneak out to it one more time. It’s not long until you hear a pair of familiar footsteps joining you.
“Hey Tanjirō-kun. Can’t sleep?” “Yeah, I can’t help but feel anxious about tomorrow.” “Me too. Congratulations on completing father’s final challenge, by the way.” “That’s nothing compared to you. You were incredible! How did you do that?” You blush at the compliment. “I had some help.”
You rest your head on his shoulder, the action as normal as breathing. “What do you think will happen tomorrow?”
“I don’t know. But whatever happens, we’ll face it together.” You nod. “Together."
What makes Tanjirō so different to you? Why do you feel so drawn to him? Why does your heart sing when he is near? When did your eyes come to search for him, and why do you crave for these moments like they’re the air that you need to breathe? In the back of your mind, you think you have the answer, but you’ll have all the time in the world to decipher it.
You lift your head and stand up, extending your hand to him. “Come on, let’s go back.”
He slides his hand into yours, and it feels right.
The next morning, you and him are all packed and prepared. You never thought you would be the one on the other side, a sword by your hip and your father’s fox mask by the side of your face, saying a bittersweet goodbye to him.
Just before you two leave, Tanjirō turn back one more time, mentioning Sabito and Makomo in his farewell. You wince, and you can only imagine what your father’s reaction was.
“How come you’ve never mentioned them?” “...You’ve never asked.”
Thankfully, he didn’t pry anymore into the subject, and your journey to Mount Fujikasane is smooth. You’re amazed at the sight of the wisteria blossoms before you, so abundant that it falls like rain. You arrive at the main area, and after hearing the rules, the actual challenge begins.
You and Tanjirō agree that it would be best to head east in order to receive sunlight the quickest. Along the way, you encounter two demons, both of whom you two quickly dealt with. You watch as he prays over the disintegrating corpses, and at times like these you have to wonder how he manages to remain so kind when he has been broken by this world.
You proceed, when suddenly Tanjirō stops you in your path, holding his nose as if he smelled something foul. A scream from the darkness sends chills down your spine. The next thing you see fills you with horror. A demon far too big and monstrous to be considered befitting the level of an amateur slayer trudges through the forest, each of its heavy footsteps thrumming in your ears. Each of its limbs are veiny and as huge as your entire body, twisting and coiling around it like mangled flesh. You can barely make out where its main body is, let alone its neck.
It holds a dead man in one of its horrific hands, devouring him in one motion. Bile rises to your throat at the sight, and you feel your legs tremble and rooted deep to the ground. The demon seizes another man with its extended arm, your breath quickening when it opens its gaping mouth. Fortunately, Tanjirō recovered before you, and rush out to slice its arms with the second form of Water Breathing. You snap out of your fear only a second later, even out your breathing and sprint out to push the man behind you, your swords drawn alongside Tanjirō.
The demon becomes incensed when it spots your fox mask and rages as it curses your father’s name over and over. You listen in horror when it reveals how many humans it has eaten, but that is nothing compared to the fire burning in your blood when he says how many of your father’s students it has devoured.
Thirteen. Thirteen of your brothers and sisters. Thirteen souls that will never come home. Thirteen names that you can recite in your sleep.
The fire blazes into a vengeful inferno when you hear it describes the deaths of Sabito and Makomo with glee, as if they’re as trivial as bugs. As if there are not still those who mourn for them.
You advance with rage and with only one working thought in your mind. Kill.
The demon is even more amused at your reaction, and to your dismay no matter how many arms you and Tanjirō cut down, more would just grow back. One of them lands a hit on Tanjirō, sending him flying and hitting a tree.
“Tanjirō-kun!” You shout, your heart dropping at the blood on his forehead and his unconscious state. You’re left to fend the demon by yourself.
“Control your breathing, (Y/N)-chan. Do not worry about us, focus on saving Tanjirō.” You hear Makomo’s voice inside your head, and only then did you realize how you’ve essentially forgone every lesson your father has drilled into you. You quickly chastise yourself and regulate your breathing, standing your ground and working to divert the demon away from the unconscious boy.
“Tanjirō-kun! Wake up! Please, I need you!” You exclaim as you sliced another limb, your muscles starting to ache from how many times you’ve done so. You couldn’t severe every one of them all alone, and to your terror one of them escaped your attention and is targeting right at him. “Tanjirō!”
As if answering your prayers, he finally opens his eyes and move out the way. But you’re barely able to let out a sigh of relief before more come at you. You dodge and run to his side, your sword brandished and held tight, face-to-face with the enemy. You spare a quick glance to Tanjirō, both of you nodding.
“Together?” “Together.”
You advance, cutting down any obstacle standing in your way. At a warning shout from Tanjirō, you both leap in the air to avoid the arms underground. A limb lashes out to grab Tanjirō, but he’s able to utilizes that hard head of his. You both land on the arm, ready to execute the final attack.
“Tanjirō-kun, I’ll take care of its arms! You aim for the neck!” You carry out the Fourth Form and destroys anything blocking his path, and in a fast flurry of the First Form, it is done.
He is no more.
When there is finally time to rest and you’re done taking care of his forehead injury, you’re left to grasp with the ugly truth displayed right before your very eyes. So many lives lost, all of it fueled by hatred so deep that it makes your heart sinks. What would your father think when he realizes that a small decision of his may have led to his students’ demise?
“I’m sorry for not telling you the truth,” you whisper as you rest under the shade of a tree. Tanjirō turns away from you, and the action makes your stomach twist. He is silent for a moment before speaking. “It’s not your fault. To be honest, I had my suspicions, but I didn’t want to face them and realize that they’re true.” Another pause. “Do you think they’re at peace now?”
You grip your kimono where your heart rests. “Yeah. Yeah, I think they are.” You don’t lie about this, you feel your soul getting lighter.
“Will you tell me about them?” “Later,” you shuffle next to him, curling into his warmth as your eyes become heavy. “I promise.”
You spend your mornings like this, sleeping after a long, arduous night. Moving ever closer until you two fit like puzzle pieces, hands gripped tight in search of the other’s warmth, a confirmation that you both are still alive.
Against all odds, you both survived the 7 days.
Drained of all energy and adrenaline, the trek back home is just as taxing for your weary bodies. You support each other by lifting the other by the shoulder, praying with every step that you’ll soon see that thatched roof that you call home.
Your journey comes to an end when you see the light from that lone house near the mountain. Your shoulders sag in relief, and you would have buckled if not for Tanjirō’s arm around you. Suddenly, the door is kicked down, and out comes the girl that you’ve only ever seen in deep slumber. She looks even more beautiful under the moonlight, and you gasp at the recognition in her still human eyes.
“Nezuko!” Tanjirō rushes down to meet his sister, and at the halfway point she cradles his head into her chest, so gentle that it makes tears well up in your eyes.
You spot your father, his arms full of firewood, and a tired smile makes its way up your face. “Otou-san...”
Uncaring about the wood he just dropped by his feet, he pulls all of you (his children) close, and there is no stopping the torrent of tears from flowing down all of your cheeks.
“You’ve survived. You’ve come back to us.”
The days that followed allow you to recuperate and come to terms with what you have learned at the Final Selection. You all devote an entire day to clean and make offerings to the graves of those that are gone and spend the entire night reminiscing your memories about them.
It also allows you to bond with Nezuko, and once again you’re convicted to help Tanjirō find a way to turn her back into a human.
But those halcyon days are short-lived, and after receiving your Nichirin sword, uniform, and first joint mission, it’s finally time to leave.
("That’s a gorgeous shade of blue, huh Urokodaki?” “Of course, she’s my daughter, after all.”)
You stand on the other side, hugging your father and promising that no matter what, you will come back to him. This is a promise that you intend to keep. He fixes your uniforms, his fingers lingering as if he’s still not ready to let go.
“Take care of her, Tanjirō,” he says, and unexpectedly pulls him closer so that he could whisper something. You don’t know what he said, but whatever it was, Tanjirō becomes deathly pale and shivers uncontrollably. You look at them curiously, but none of them would meet your gaze.
Finally, you take your first few steps down that dirt path, sparing one final look at your world and everything you’ve ever known. But you’re not afraid, for you have Tanjirō by your side.
“We’re in this together.”
“There’s no one else I would rather do this with.”
