#I love this exchange so much specifically because it tells us a lot about how the translator microbes work. I mean. I highly doubt that – at#least at this point – john has ever discussed woodies with Aeryn.#But I can quite easily imagine that he’s at one point looked at some alien thing shuddered and gone ‘ugh. Gives me the willies.’#And since aeryn’s translator microbes picked that up and returned it with woody we can kind of see how they work.#It’s taken willie – a colloquial term for penis – and substituted it with another colloquial term for penis – woody.#The problem is that these terms both have connotations that the microbes don’t pick up on#hence the incorrect substitution.#However they do seem to do okay with homophones#presumably based on context.#It’s like how back in like 2012 if you typed a word into google translate that didn’t translate well#it would give you it’s best guess#and then if you translated it back it would just have a completely different meaning. You know that feeling where you have ideas. So many ideas. Too many ideas. And they all would take way too much time that you don't have if you actually wanted to execute them. So you just sit there giving yourself a headache because you cant decide where to start? Love that feeling. And by love, I mean I want to take my brain out of my skull and wring it like a wet sponge.
#and so i sit here making myself mad. today the plant ppl have my ire#which isnt fair bc plants r unappreciated but also like ur study organism couldnt exist as it is without fungi and bacteria. which are WAY#more underappreciated. which isnt the plant ppls fault but also i watched like 10 plant photosynthesis videos yesterday#and not a single one mentioned that plants do photosynthesis bc they consumed a cyanobacteria. they always go: and some bacteria can also do#photosynthesis! and thats it. and im like ??? endosymbiosis is so cool? y would u not mention it??? like plants didnt develop a way to do#photosynthesis. they just captured a photosynthetic organism. the plant bias in photosynthesis is so huge and it makes me irrationally#defensive. its like theyre stealing photosynthesis glory XD they've got photosynthesis clout but only bc they stole it lmao#idk its funny that it makes me so frustrated but it's sorta baffling to me how plant focused plant ppl r when plants rely so much on#bacteria and fungi. i mean i guess thr same could b said for animals. especially those with robust endosymbionts. idk i guess its just bc im#and ecologist and microbe person im baffled when ppl think about organism as one thing rather than a system of things#anyway. im mad bc i have things that i want to write and read and draw plus the things i have to do for school. and im doing none of#those things and its bullshit#unrelated

Ameebs 10 year redraw 2024 vs 2014.
The character himself is about 18 years old though (middle school). Somehow the name Ameba stuck so I just call him Ame now. Or Ameebs. I have done much research into Chinese names for him, but nothing has stuck. The greek root word amoibē means 'a change,' named for his more unsteady physical form.

i guess i should have expected a book called "THE HOUSE FLY, A SLAYER OF MEN" to have a very biased perspective on houseflies and be very hateful toward them but this is crazy. this is what a general says to rally his army before they head out into a battle. but actually they're saying this about a fly

#being back in the lab is giving me whiplash#bc i like seeing all the ppl again. i like seeing my cultures again. but in the one class im taking im worried for the amount of reading#and discussing ill have to do. its going to b very obvious when im struggling to understand what im reading#and thats in addition to the reading ill have to do specific to my project. and my dad's like: ur mental health comes 1st. if it's too much#then step away but if i did that i really would be cutting the cord between myself and ever finishing in this program. ugh. how am i already#more tired than when i was getting up at 3 am and spending 8hrs on my feet?#and this morning. after 3 months of applications i finally have an interview for a government job.#so im like here going thru the motions of being a grad student but im still holding on to my way out#rn my ideal would be that i actually get this job im interviewing for bc it involves growing microbes for agricultural research and i want#to stay a microbiologist. but i would have enough time to finish out the semester before moving across the country yet again.#bc i dont wanna just leave bc i teach 2 lab sections but i dont think i wanna do this anymore#but hey it's only day 2. ive got plenty of time to change my mind#it just sucks and im tired#unrelated
