If you see the quote “screw comfort characters, who’s your confront character” and you go for one of the women of the BAU as opposed to one of the hundreds of vile male unsubs then idk what to tell you other than you might wanna consider some internalised misogyny
I really don’t think Jordan Todd being a bit snappy with Morgan or Ashley Seaver interrupting Reid is enough to warrant them being seen as worse than characters such as Jacob Dawes, Frank Breitkopf, Charles Hankel, Jason Clark Battle, George Foyet, Ian Doyle, John Curtis, Malcolm Ford, Hastings and Askari, Carl Buford, Edgar Solomon, Peter Lewis, Elias Voit…. To name a few

criminal minds sexuality and gender identities <3
if you don’t agree or say something about canon, kindly shush. These are my headcanons so what I think, not what the show portrayed.
Jason Gideon : okay so I know we see him written like a straight man, but in my heart Jason is gay. He just doesn’t let it define him, him and Rossi deffo had a thing at the start of the BAU and it took him awhile to come to accept himself as fully gay. Could also see him as a trans man, but not as much as I see him as a gay man.
David Rossi : omnisexual. I will take no criticism on this, he doesn’t care how you identify if he is attracted to you. He is attracted to you. As stated above, him and Gideon also definitely did it.
Aaron Hotchner : Hotch loved Hayley, I hate their relationship later on in the show. But you cannot say he didn’t love her. However, he had so much tension with Blackwolf in the S1 episode ‘The Tribe’. So, I don’t see him as fully straight. Until I find a label that better suits him either Unlabelled or Queer.
Derek Morgan : unlabelled or bisexual but due to Buford he is more reluctant to engage in a mlm relationship, I think he has accepted his sexuality but will probably be more reluctant to start a physical relationship with a man unless he fully trusts that man.
Emily Prentiss : lesbian.
Elle Greenaway : lesbian or bisexual, but with a female preference.
Jennifer Jareau : hear me out on this one, in the bar scene where she is having a drink with Will and she was building up to telling him something, I was so ready for her to come out as lesbian. There were small hints, and honestly I could see her as a lesbian. However, that didn’t happen and instead we had Will and JJ and I admit they have grown on me so. Before the relationship between Will and JJ was developed or even hinted, lesbian however I can see her as a bisexual woman.
Spencer Reid : bisexual possibly trans man, if not trans, agender or non binary at the least. Could also see him as a purely gay trans man, and would love that but he does work well with a woman as well. So if it is the bisexual, more with a preference for men. His tension with Ethan is undeniable.
Penelope Garcia : pansexual trans woman. Penny is my little queer baby, I can imagine her realising young that she was trans and her family being like super supportive.
Luke Alvez : gay. Luke is a gay man, that doesn’t understand what’s so important about who you are attracted too. He was a bit scared to come out, as I imagine him in a religious home but his family were supportive. His abuela, was just like “I know.” But I imagine him realising high school, but not coming out too his full family until about 18 years old.
Dr Alex Blake : bisexual.
Dr Tara Lewis : lesbian. No explanation needed.
Kate Callahan : unlabelled. If she likes you, or is attracted to you she just is. She’s never fully looked into all the different labels so, she just says she is attracted to who she is attracted to.
Ashley Seaver : lesbian, however she also labels herself as demisexual (she needs to have a bond before she can find you sexually attractive and want to sleep with you).
Jordan Todd : lesbian. Always thought she had tension with Emily, but she definitely isn’t straight.

Drive-By Truckers Solo Preview
Tumblr media
Patterson Hood
BY JORDAN MAINZER
I'm not sure whether it was planned this way or a mere coincidence, but the two principal songwriters of rock legends Drive-By Truckers are playing separate solo shows in the Chicago area over the next couple nights. Tonight and tomorrow, Patterson Hood graces the stage at Fitzgerald's, while tomorrow, Mike Cooley gives a set at the Hideout. Presumably, each will largely perform stripped down versions of their own Truckers tunes.
Tumblr media
Mike Cooley
It's been a big year for Drive-By Truckers even though they haven't released a new record. Instead, they gave us The Complete Dirty South (New West), a sort-of director's cut of their 2004 opus detailing what they'd previously called "the duality of the Southern thing:" the simultaneous pride and shame of being from the South, the grey areas of what it means to truly be a rebel in a society that actively hates anybody who isn't a rich white man. The Complete Dirty South contains newly sequenced audio, three additional tracks, four remixes, and updated vocals from Hood on two songs. The complete package serves to emphasize even more the desperation of ordinary folks, as well as the moral ambiguity of both the lawmakers and lawbreakers that make up the region's history. On "Goode's Field Road", which would eventually be rerecorded for Brighter Than Creation's Dark, a man kills himself knowing that his family would be able to afford to eat with the insurance money, the character a more hopeless counterpart to the suicidal ideation-filled narrator of the ass-ripping "Lookout Mountain". Jason Isbell's stunning acoustic slow burn "TVA" is a reflection on the Tennessee Valley Authority's dams, how they've simultaneously damaged local ecosystems but given his ancestors jobs and himself some precious teenage memories. As always, with the Truckers, both things are true at once.
Ultimately, though, The Complete Dirty South is us an opportunity to listen with 2023 ears to a 2004 album that's truer than ever. The rich still get away with doing illegal things ("Where the Devil Don't Stay"), increasingly intense weather patterns still devastate the poorest of communities ("Tornadoes"), and government austerity policies still force people to work longer hours, for lower pay (the incendiary "Putting People on the Moon".) When Hood sings, "Motherfucker in the White House said a change was comin' round / But I'm workin' at the Walmart, Mary Alice in the ground," it's the much more realistic, downtrodden version of "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss," a sharpshooting lyricist's analysis of the devastating consequences of incrementalism, let alone inaction.
Tumblr media
Drive-By Truckers
Perhaps the songs on the album most subtly revolutionary are Hood's one-two punch of tales around Buford Pusser, a McNairy County sheriff who launched a one-man war on vices all across the Mississippi-Tennessee state line, and Cooley's "Cottonseed". "The Boys From Alabama" and "The Buford Stick" tell "the other side of that story," the non-heroizing version told in Walking Tall, the criminals' view of the policeman as someone not demonstrating moral high ground but simply disallowing people the opportunity to make money by moonshining and distract themselves from the pain of life by gambling and drinking. Cooley has said "Cottonseed" is inspired by a local career criminal hired to give a speech at a church, them intending to scare congregants into law-abiding lives, who in a twist of fate displays no remorse for his actions. "I've put more law men in the ground than Alabama put cottonseed," he sings, the titular image a brilliant encapsulation of the realization that, in U.S. history, state-sanctioned work has often been crueler than what many criminals have done. "Say what you have to say to shut their Bibles and their mouths," he continues, "If they was to tie a noose they'd have to lay their Bibles down." Drive-By Truckers don't just make you empathize with society's cast-offs but posit that authority itself doesn't listen to the moral doctrines they're supposed to exemplify. For Southern rockers to do that to a largely white audience in 2023 would make headlines; Hood, Cooley and company were ahead of their time.

The Hardest Part of Letting Go is Knowing When to Walk Away: A Farewell
"... The hardest part of letting go is knowing when to walk away..." That's one of my favorite lines from one of the many amazing songs that Paco Estrada has written, and in this circumstance, taking it out of context, I feel it sums things up quite well for me. It's been a year and nine months since I posted anything of substance (original) on here. Free time is sparse these days, and has been for some time. Hell, I wanted and intended to do reviews of what wound up being the final concerts I went to in the summer of 2019, yet that never even happened. So now comes the difficult part of fully admitting to myself that The Music Enthusiast is done. It has been for a while now, and I hate that, because I dislike it when bands just fizzle out. No proper farewell, nor even a mention of goodbye, they just vanish. It makes me wish I had ended this a few years ago when the blog was in its prime, but alas.
I remember well that seventeen year old kid who had no formal concept of writing and began doing this simply because he wanted to blog, the local concerts he started periodically going to seeming like as good a topic as any. That was on MySpace, and while the core idea of what I wanted to do was there, it took a lot of refinement on my part to get this where it could be considered legitimate. A whole lot. And then a lot more. I shudder at how awful my earliest blog posts were. This was always all about the local music scene in Dallas/Fort Worth, how enamored I was with it, and wanting to share that. My mission then was to try to get people turned on to some great music they may not have known about, and while my goals with TME may have grown loftier over time, that mission was a constant.  Hopefully I succeed at that. Even if it was only once with a single individual than it was all worth it. I also recall seventeen year old me pouring over the liner notes of albums, going over the lyrics and reading the sections where bands thanked whoever and thinking, "I want to see my name in that section one day." I've been humbled a few times in that regard by some awesome local acts. I'm immensely grateful to those who felt compelled to even mention me like that, and thanks, you literally made a dream come true. However, more than anything, this was something I loved with a burning passion. To me, writing a review was every bit as exhilarating as attending the concert, which was certainly a euphoric rush in itself. With this thing having lasted thirteen years there are way too many people who helped me along the way to thank by name. But to those who helped expand my horizons from just the local D/FW scene and motivated me to start covering larger events, thank you. To all the bands and musicians who helped foster this little blog and shared my reviews, thank you. To anyone who ever read anything I posted on here, thank you. You all have my eternal and heartfelt gratitude. The Music Enthusiast was never a buzzed about blog, nor even one widely recognized, though I feel that was appropriate, because it's in line with who I am. I do believe, however, that every single thing I wrote on here felt like it came from the heart. That a piece of me was represented in these words, rather than just being some generic comments. Maybe one day I'll resume this. If that's even a possibility it's at least several years away. Or maybe the end slipped by some time ago without even knowing. I don't know... Thanks again to anyone and everyone who ever gave this site a moment of their time. Take care.

Behind the Scenes
For the curious, Loomis is living his best life with his remaining two llamas. Jordan is the white one and Buford is the beige one. He also has a small flock of chickens now. He's trying to keep bees and makes ends meet by selling crafts on Plopsy.
