I don't see a lot of return of the Blossoming Blade x reader. I'll be making one, but it's more of a oc!reader since the reader will have some features that I will be describing. Chapter 1: Lost to Nowhere

Y/n felt the room around her shift, and the once-silent apartment was filled with the rustle of leaves and the distant sounds of a bustling market. Her heart raced as she found herself standing in the middle of a bustling town, surrounded by people dressed in familiar traditional clothing.

You could see the man was sweating very nervously, but it was gone by the minute. He clasped his hands together looking at the older man with a business smile.

You simply found it unimaginable that these people had been doing what they had been doing for so long and had gotten away with it for so long, definitely when you considered that these people had been literal outcasts. It wasn't like most serial killers that would try and blend in with day to day society, no they were strange and unpleasant people to begin with, so why hadn't anybody raised concerns or why hadn't anybody taken Victim Yoon's statements seriously, when he seemed to be the only one suspecting them. To you, it only proved how smart and cunning, but more than that heartless they had been in selecting their victims. They targeted people that were already suffering and having a hard time surviving. People that wouldn't be missed by the general public or who's sanity and mental health would be brought in question when launching an investigation when reported missing. The leader of the group had to be a real piece of work when you considered the fact that some of the members had had disabilities as well and that she still got them to do exactly as told or else they wouldn't have been able to get away with it all for so long.

Chapter 4: Ready Set Work!

Hwang Mun-Yak, a shrewd and calculating man, is the president of the Eunha Trading Company. He had a reputation for making decisions based solely on the potential benefits he could gain. He didn't care about a person's background or origin; he cared about what they could bring to the table. So, when he purchased a child slave, it raised eyebrows and sparked curiosity.

Zhang Jun sat nervously in one of the opulent chambers of the Hwang family. As a slave trader, Zhang was accustomed to dealing in the business of buying and selling human lives, but this encounter was different.

As Zhang Jun faced Mun-Yak and his enigmatic gaze, he pondered a question that had been asked silently: What value did Mun-Yak see in the child he had bought? What value did he see in you for him to take notice of you?

Zhang Jun thought really deeply as he sat down with the Hwangs. All three of them sat around the circle table, discussing something regarding you.

Zhang Jun awaited Mun-Yak's response, hoping that his explanation would assuage any concerns and convince the president of the profound value the child held.

Jun paused, carefully remembering the information he had. "From what little I could remember, the lord was captivated by her exotic beauty and took her as one of his concubines."

Zhang Jun continued, "The relationship, however, was short-lived. After the birth of the child, the lady fell gravely ill and, unfortunately, succumbed to her ailment. Right after the lady’s death, the previous lord died right after. The child’s half-older brother took the position as the new lord, and he tried selling the child as a slave.”

Hwang Mun-Yak continued to absorb the information about the child from Zhang Jun as his gaze at his teacup penetrated it with his thoughtful look. The story of the child's origins and her half-brother’s actions left a sour taste in the air. “A few moments ago, outside, I noticed that you and your caravan had been traveling for a very long time. May I ask where you were planning to sell her before I decided to buy her from you, Mr. Zhang? ”

Jun sweats from the question, "I will admit originally considering giving her to the Jang family as a gift for their child and as potential buyers. However, your timely offer to purchase her changed the course of events. It is only fitting that you are the one to decide her fate now, President Hwang."

The room fell into a momentary silence as Mun-Yak contemplated the narrative. "Thank you for the information, Mr. Zhang. Here, this is a reward for your assistance."

A bag of gold coins was put on top of the expensive table. Zhang Jun's eyes widened as he beheld the bag of gold coins on the table, the glint of the metal captivating him. He felt his hands trembling from the glittering money that was presented in front of him. Those glittering gold coins before him were a testament to the success of his latest transaction.

"Ah, President Hwang, your generosity knows no bounds," Zhang Jun said, his voice tinged with a hint of greed thinly veiled behind a facade of gratitude. "As a humble trader, I am honored to have played a part in bringing valuable information. I assure you that should you ever require my services in the future, I will be at your disposal."

Hwang Mun-Yak nodded, acknowledging Jun's thanks, though he couldn't help but notice the insatiable hunger in the trader's eyes. "That would be unnecessary; your cooperation and the information you provided about the child are enough," Mun-Yak replied, his tone holding a hint of caution.

But before Zhang Jun could attempt to further curry favor, Mun-Yak gestured toward the door, signaling the end of their discussion. Zhang Jun, clutching the bag of gold coins tightly in his hand, left the room with hesitation. It was a transaction, yes, but an opportunity to have a secure connection with the influential Eunha Trading Company. would greatly benefit him.

"Father, do you really think this is a good idea?" The man next to Mun-Yak finally voiced out his concern about the whole situation.

Mun-Yak responded without a hint of emotion. "What do you mean, Jongui?"

Jongui hesitated, choosing his words carefully. "Father, I know you felt bad for the child, but to this extent? Do we really need to know about her background when she will only be a servant here?"

"I am not blind, Son."

Jongui felt a chill run down his spine at the firmness in his father's voice. Straightening his back, he braced himself for what would come next. Mun-Yak continued, "I planned to observe the child to see how capable she is. If my opinion about her turns out to be true, we will take responsibility for her."

Mun-Yak stands up from his seat and walks to the window, gazing at the scenery before him. Jongui gazes at him with utmost curiosity. Wondering what his father may be thinking. "But if she turns out to be useless, we will leave her as a maid in training."

As Jongui gazed at his father, he couldn't shake the feeling of unease that had settled within him. His father's decision to go to such lengths for a mere child troubled him deeply. He wondered what had compelled his father to take such a keen interest in the child.

Jongui knew his father well, and he understood that Mun-Yak was not a man to act impulsively. There had to be something about the child—something that Jongui himself had yet to see—that had motivated his father to make this unusual move.

Eventually, Jongui decided to trust his father's judgment. Mun-Yak had built the Eunha Trading Company into a formidable force through shrewd decision-making and an innate ability to recognize potential. If he believed that the child held value beyond that of a common slave, there had to be a compelling reason.

Meanwhile,

By the time you woke up from the void, you were greeted by a very extravagant room. The extravagant room you woke up in was impressive. “I feel very rich inside this room.”

You hummed as you were admiring the room design. Mr. Rich should have let one of his people put you here. You were thankful for the generosity.

A ping was heard. You look at where the sound came from, only for the colors of your face to drain.

“Maomao, what the fuck are these?! ”

A very scared and nervous Maomao appeared before you; they trembled from the glare you gave her. “Those are commissions! You have to do it or else you’ll be punished. Please don’t get angry at me! ”

Maomao cried as she moved far away from your heart.

“Commissions? "You look up at the blue screen with the ‘commissions’. “Ah, I get it, but it doesn’t explain why it has to be intense. ”

You gave Maomao a look and a gesture at your figure. “As you can see, Maomao, I have the body of a weak child. What do you think I could do? "You made an exaggerated gesture to the screen, “all of these without fainting every second!" ”

To Maomao’s credit, they answered your question. “Um, improvise? ”

You sighed. The sudden appearance of these demanding commissions was far from what you expected. Realizing that Maomao was probably not the best source for empathy in this unfortunate situation.

"Improvise, huh?" you muttered to yourself, eyeing the list of physical tasks. "Well, let's see what we can do here."

You decided to start with the curl-ups. Instead of the full 100, you opted for a more reasonable number, settling for 20. As you attempted the exercise, you couldn't help but feel the strain in muscles you didn't even know you had. Maomao watched with a mix of concern and curiosity.

"Okay, not bad," you said, panting slightly. "Now, the punches."

You adjusted your stance and threw a series of punches, alternating between left and right. You weren't sure if they were up to the standards of a martial artist, but at least you weren't embarrassing yourself completely.

"Push-ups next," you mumbled, lowering yourself to the ground. You were struggling so much but managed to complete 30 before your arms protested vehemently. This was definitely not your usual morning routine.

"Now, kicks," you said, eyeing the remaining tasks. Instead of high kicks, you settled for a more manageable level, kicking the air with moderate intensity. While also feeling the strain in your legs.

"Alright, Maomao, that should do it," you declared, your muscles tense and sore but feeling the accomplishment. "How was that for improvisation?"

Maomao, who had been cautiously observing your attempts, nodded with a hesitant smile. "Um, not bad, Y/n. But the commissions are still not complete. Maybe you can try to do a bit more?"

You groaned, "Alright, Maomao," you said with resignation, "I suppose I have no choice but to finish it. Though I'm warning you, this is going to be a disaster."

Your threat left Maomao shuddering in fear. You were not someone to mess with when you’re angry.

After what felt like an eternity, you finally completed the commissions, panting and sweating heavily. You felt your chest squeeze, wheezing a little. Your weak child's body was not built for such strenuous exercise. Maomao offered you a towel, which you gratefully accepted.

"Good job," she said tentatively, offering you a glass of water. You gulped it down, grateful for the refreshment.

You looked at the commission's screen again, feeling accomplished despite the physical strain. "Alright, Maomao, what happens after I finish the commissions?”

As if to answer your question, another ping was heard. You look at the blue screen, and your eyes widen from the words it displays.

[Congratulations!   You have finished your first commission! As a reward for your hard work, here are your prizes:  40 Exp.| 3 Free Energy drink<common> | Free QI Energy ]

Maomao grinned, her eyes gleaming with pride. "Congratulations! You did it! Finishing your first set of commissions is a big milestone."

You read the message on the blue screen, and a sense of accomplishment washed over you. The rewards for completing your first commission were better than you expected.

Maomao clapped her hands in delight. "Look at that! You've earned experience points, energy drinks, and even some QI energy. Those rewards will come in handy for your cultivation journey."

"Thanks," you said sincerely, while you stretched your body a little to release the tension in your muscles. "So, what's next after completing these commissions? Do I get more tasks or challenges?"

Maomao shakes her head. "Fortunately for you, no, you will only receive commissions daily, so that was your first commission on this day; tomorrow will be another one."

You grumble at the thought of more commissions, but at least it was only once a day, so maybe you’ll tolerate it for now. "Okay, then, so can you explain to me about the rewards I got? ”

“Sure! "Maomao excitedly responds, “The experience points (Exp) you've earned will be used to level up your character, and you can also sacrifice' Exp for Stats points. The free energy drinks will help replenish your character's stamina, and the free QI energy is a special resource you can use to help replenish your current QI; in fact, you can use it now if you want."

You thought about Maomao’s suggestion, “Hm, maybe let’s focus on replenishing my stamina first, then we can do QI after.” After all, you were so tired from the commission.

Maomao understandably nods and lets you summon one of the energy drinks. You gulp down the whole bottle like a wild animal (which is understandable), and as you finish drinking the whole bottle, you feel your body become light and energized. “Wow! I actually feel very energized; it feels like I didn’t even do an intense workout a few minutes ago.”

Maomao grinned, pleased to see your positive reaction to the energy drink. "They work wonders in replenishing stamina and revitalizing your character. It's a quick fix for when you need a boost during or after challenging tasks."

As you relished in the newfound energy coursing through your virtual veins, Maomao continued, "Now, let's talk about the free QI energy you received. Qi energy is crucial in this world; it's like your character's life force and power source. You can use free QI energy to restore your character's Qi, which is essential for your future abilities and skills."

She guided you through the process of using the free QI energy, explaining the intricacies of managing this vital resource. As you followed her instructions, you felt the replenishing surge of energy within the game, mirroring the real-world rejuvenation you experienced with the energy drink.

"Now that your stamina is replenished and your Qi energy is restored, let us discuss your current state." But before Maomao could finish, both of you heard footsteps coming to your (not really) room. This made both of you panic.

“Oh no, um, let’s continue this another time; for now, just talk via telepathy to communicate with me, okay? ”

As you were about to respond to Maomao, they disappeared from sight. The door also slides open. “I see you are finally awake, esteem guest.”

This is going to be a long day.

Renjun has been a frequent visitor of Triple R Records (Reuse, Repeat, Replay), a vinyl records thrift store, since middle school after he bought his first AC/DC record and played it on his parent's turntable. Since then he's bought a boom box - he keeps up with the trends - and the shop, too, upgraded to cassette tapes, then CDs! Unfortunately, he slowly stops going, even though his orders pile up. Your boss has you deliver a brown paper bag of all his latest purchases, but when you get to his apartment, he's listening to Yoon Jong Shin at a volume loud enough to warrant a domestic disturbance and laying face down on the floor because his girlfriend broke both his heart and their band.

September Wrap Up

Wow, guys. It’s September. And that means the Fall comeback rush! We hope all your favorite groups are making comebacks soon, and if not, keep hope because there are still a few months left in 2019! 

We’ve been going strong, getting things ready for my next announcement-- WE ARE STARTING A PODCAST! The first episode will be up on October 6 with a second episode following shortly (release dates for subsequent episodes will be announced soon). The three of us have been talking about this since at least March, and we are happy to report that we are getting closer to the release! 

Our aim is to release two episodes a month, the first episode will follow a looser format where we talk about a lighthearted topic, while the second episode will be more informative. In this first episode we will talk about the different ways the three of us got into KPOP! We will be on SoundCloud and eventually Spotify and iTunes. More information and links will be posted soon!

In lesser but still exciting news, we now have a Spotify! We will be putting up personally curated playlists on there so please check it out and follow us there as well!

September 9, 2009: The Case of Itaewon Homicide (This movie was based on the true story of the Itaewon Murder Case in which a Korean college student was found murdered. It stars Jung Jin Young and Jang Geun Suk. Following the movie release, interest in the case was reignited and an appeal to the courts was made. The film had over 500,000 cinema admissions.)  September 16, 2010: Cyrano Agency (This witty comedy stars Uhm Tae Woong and Park Shin Hye. The movie was twenty years in the making before finally going into production under Myung Films. Despite it’s low budget it made a slow rise to over 2.5 million admissions. In 2013, a drama spin off called Dating Agency: Cyrano aired.) September 16, 2010: A Better Tomorrow (This film is a remake of the ‘86 Hong Kong movie of the same name. September 8, 2011: The Day He Arrives (This indie film is fully black and white, and  stars singer Yoo Jun Sang. It gained over 40,000 admissions and made around $300,000 at the box office.)  September 22, 2011: The Crucible/Silenced (This film, starring Gong Yoo, is based on a true story regarding the continuous sexual assault on the students at a school for the hearing impaired. There was a public outcry following the movie’s release because the perpetrators got away without punishment.) 

September 13, 2012: Masquerade (This film stars Lee Byung Hun, Ryu Seung Ryong, and Han Hyo Joo. It brought in over 12 million admissions, making it the ninth highest grossing movie in Korean cinema history. It is based on the true story of the life of Crown Prince Sado, his life and relationship with his father King Yeongjo. It has a Rotten Tomatoes score 93% and 81 out of 100 on Metacritic. It won various awards including the Golden Leopard from 68th Locarno International Film Festival.)

September 3, 2014: Ladies’ Code member Go Eun-bi, 21, passes away immediately following a car accident.  September 7, 2014: Ladies’ Code member Kwon Rise, 23, passes away after multiple surgeries due to injuries from the same car accident.

-A Tribute To EunBi and RiSe-

EunBi and RiSe debuted in Ladies’ Code as a part of the original five-member lineup in 2013. EunBi was known for her sweet personality and sense of humor. RiSe was a humble beauty queen with a heart of gold. Together, these two were known for their close friendship. After EunBi and RiSe’s passing, the fans and remaining members of the group examined Ladies’ Code’s discography under a different lens, and the remaining members came to earn quite a bit of respect for how they handled their loss. EunBi and RiSe are greatly missed by fans who still celebrate their birthdays every year.

Jimin x Reader

Series Summary: You knew that married life with an idol would be challenging. You just didn’t know that it would be this challenging.

The wind blew the leaves across the pastel orange skyline. The blades of the grass swayed back and forth following the patterns of the whisking air. He stared at the lone tree in the middle of the field as the atmosphere turned into something bittersweet.

“Papa?” Her small hand was encased in his, “Papa...are those shoes for the tree?” He chuckled as he gazed down at the young child. He was amused by her innocence,

“No, those shoes already have an owner.”

“Who, papa?” The young girl looked up curiously at her father waiting for some type of answer. He licked his lips and gulped. A tinge of sadness twinkled in his eyes.

“Nara-ah...calm down...” You patted your crying friend’s back as you looked to Jimin and your other friends for some help. They just looked back at you with a quizzical look offering no assistance what so ever, 

“B-But I...I c-can’t believe that...that we w-won’t see e-each other a-a-anymore!” She was hunched over in the middle of the university courtyard sobbing her eyes out. 

“Don’t say that Nara...I’m sure we’ll see each other soon.” She shook her head in the palms of her hands,

“Nu-uh! J-Jong Soo’s going to J-Japan...and...and I’m g-going to America....and Rae Yeon and J-Jimin are gonna b-become w-world stars...a-and y-you’re g-gonna b-be doing photoshoots....” Nara sobbed even harder and the others glared at you as if to tell you that you only made her cry even more. You shrugged. It wasn’t like it was your fault. 

But sadly, what Nara said was true. The five of you long-time friends were finally separating after years of being together. Jong Soo and Nara had found jobs abroad, Rae Yeon and Jimin were street cast by an entertainment company, and you, being the top graduate of the photography school, were lined up with a plentiful amount of photoshoots. 

Rae Yeon, Jong Soo, and Jimin had been friends since middle school. You and Nara had been roommates during college. Ever since you all met in your first year of university, the five of you were inseparable. You couldn’t imagine a life without them. You tried your best not to cry during the graduation ceremony, but Nara was a very emotional soul. She was the type to cry when the extras died in a movie. 

“Stop ruining the mood, we just graduated! You should be proud!” Jimin punched Jong Soo on the shoulder and told him to shush, “What? I’m just saying....”

Jimin sighed, “Hey, why don’t we all go get some celebratory lunch? Food will make you feel a little better, Nara.” 

“Yeah!” You seconded, “Some nice grilled beef will do the trick.” A buildup of drool was already pooling around the edges of your mouth.

She stood up and dusted off the black graduation gown she wore, “Sorry, Jimin. I’m h-having lunch w-with my family. I c-can’t skip out...relatives f-from abroad came...”

Jong Soo shook his head disappointingly, “Yeah, I can’t go too. I got some things I have to finalize before I leave for Japan.... Speaking of which, I have a few video meetings I have to attend to. I’ll take Nara back to her family, you three have a good lunch!” Jong Soo and Nara made their way back into the university’s auditorium leaving you, Jimin and Rae Yeon out in the cold. 

Rae Yeon was always the shy and quiet one in the group. She always minded herself and never really spoke up for herself, so you always made sure to ask her what she wanted, “Yeonie, you wanna come with us?” 

Rae Yoon shook her head causing her head to sink further into her scarf, “N-No thanks,” her cheeks were rosy, “I have to prepare for the audition tonight.” 

You almost forgot about the audition. One day, a couple weeks ago, the three of you were walking out of campus together when a recruiter approached Jimin and Rae Yeon. He claimed to have seen them perform during the university's annual Winter Concert which showcased performances from all the branches and clubs of the Arts Department. Jimin and Rae Yeon were theater majors, but their dance club held a performance during the show. The recruiter seemed impressed by their performance, so he gave them his company’s card and told them to call and book an audition if they wanted to. Of course, you encouraged them to take the opportunity.

“Oh, yeah! I forgot about the audition...don’t worry, you’ll do great.” A beaming smile erupted from your lips and you gave her an encouraging pat on the back. 

“T-Thanks, Y/N...um, I better go now.” She turned to Jimin, her cheeks getting redder by the second, “I...I’ll see you later MinMin...” 

“Ah, yeah. I’ll pick you up at six?” She nodded her head, “Okay then. See you later, Rae.” The two of you waved as she walked in the other direction.

Once her small frame was out of sight, Jimin took your hand and interlocked his fingers with yours, “So, what does my jagiya want to eat? Soup? Noodles? Beef?” 

“Actually, why don’t you go home too. Don’t you also have to prepare for the audition?”

“Yah, just a second ago you were practically drooling asking to go get some beef.” He chuckled in disbelief.

“I know...but I know how much this audition means to you and I want you to be fully prepared for it.” He brought his hand up to your head and playfully ruffled your hair, 

“Aw, look at my jagi being all cute. Okay, fine. I’ll go home and practice...but there is one thing I want to do first before the audition.” You looked curiously as Jimin took his free hand and rummaged in his pocket to pull out a folded piece of paper. He unhooked his hand from yours so that he could properly unfold the sheet without accidentally ripping it.

“What’s that, Jiminie?” His face became red and he tried to hide behind the paper, but you snatched it from his hand. Your jaw dropped when you realized what it was. It was a marriage registration form,

“It’s my graduation present for you,” 

You remembered the day when he proposed to you a few months ago. You both were in the middle of finishing up your last year at university, and you both were extremely busy. But Jimin felt like you were the one for him, and he didn’t want to waste any time. Despite your busy schedules full of classes and club activities, he found the time to kneel down on one knee and propose to you,

“I thought that maybe...maybe we can get our marriage registered...” his face was even redder than it was just a few moments ago, “Before I audition, I wanted to do this first. I want to take this step before I leap into something big because I want to make that leap...with you.” 

It took all your willpower not to cry and ruin your makeup. Instead. you jumped into his arms and wrapped yourself around him, “Thank you! Thank you for the amazing present. I want to take that leap with you too, Jiminie. Let’s go and get married, shall we?” 

Once again, you and Jimin interlocked hands and you swung your arms as you walked down the street. You knew what Jimin had meant by “taking a leap”. If Jimin did pass the audition, then that would mean a life full of unknown obstacles. Being a star, an idol, was difficult especially when it came to the field of maintaining relationships. But you and Jimin knew your relationship was strong, and you both wanted to get married just to solidify the fact that you two would remain together no matter what was thrown in your direction. 

At least you hoped that you would be able to endure the road bumps to come.

Berkshire Museum’s Sale of Blockbuster Works Prompts Backlash—and the 9 Other Biggest News Stories This Week

01  Massachusetts’s Berkshire Museum will auction 40 artworks to bolster its endowment and pay for renovations, potentially violating industry guidelines, which generally prohibit art sales for operating costs.

Known as deaccessioning, the sale of works from an institutional collection is broadly banned by the industry guidelines crafted by the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD) and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM). The only exception is if the sale is intended to fund the purchase of other artworks. Selling work to fund operating and endowment expenses can result in sanctions, with other institutions refusing to loan work to the offending museum. Though they have expressed opposition, the AAM and AMMD have not announced if such a fate will befall the Berkshire Museum, which is auctioning works by Alexander Calder and Norman Rockwell, among others, to raise money for $20 million in renovation and $40 million in additional endowment funds. The sale has already resulted in criticism from other institutions, with the director of the Norman Rockwell Museum writing an op-ed calling for the Berkshire Museum to reconsider its sale.

02  The legal fight over a Paul Klee masterpiece looted by Nazis has been settled after 26 years of contentious litigation.

Under the agreement, the German museum that now holds Klee’s Swamp Legend (1919) will keep the painting but pay the heirs of its original owner, art historian Sophie Lissitzky-Küppers, its fair-market value, estimated at €2–4 million. Lissitzky-Küppers left the painting on loan to the Hanover Provinzial Museum when she emigrated to the Soviet Union in 1926. It was later seized as one of over 20,000 works confiscated from German museums in the crusade against “degenerate art.” During and after World War II, Swamp Legend wound its way through the hands of several owners before landing in Munich’s Lenbachhaus museum, where it is on display today. Following the end of the war,  Lissitzky-Küppers unsuccessfully attempted to reclaim her collection. Her descendants, however, have been trying to recover the Klee from the German government since 1992. The settlement, which requires the painting's Nazi history be detailed when the piece is exhibited, concludes one of several cases seeking the return of art looted by the Nazis. Still, many others, including another ongoing lawsuit against Germany over a looted Wassily Kandinsky work, remain unresolved.

03  A Dana Schutz exhibition at Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston is prompting controversy, with protesters sending an open letter to the institution in opposition to the show.

The 18-week exhibition of Schutz’s recent work opened at the museum on Wednesday. On Tuesday, protesters sent an open letter to curator Eva Respini and her team expressing concerns and criticisms of the exhibit. The letter follows months after Schutz’s depiction of Emmett Till in her work Open Casket (2016) caused protests and debates around representation and white privilege when it was exhibited at the Whitney Biennial in March. While that piece is not on display at the ICA, the six-page open letter urges the museum to consider the “moral gravitas of reckless cultural sensibilities of artists in their charge and not waver due to the weight of their bottom lines.” The letter lists four demands, including the appearance of Schutz as part of a public Q&A and increased explanation and acknowledgement of the Open Casket controversy. In response, ICA director Jill Medvedow noted that “art often exposes the fault lines in our culture, and ‘Open Casket’ raised difficult questions about cultural appropriation, race, and representation.” She pinpointed museums as a place where the artist’s voice is integral to dialogue and has organized programs related to the exhibition, but Schutz will not be present. Writers of the letter spoke with the ICA staff last week, but reportedly left with “many questions unanswered and with a promise from the ICA to continue this dialogue.”

04  Former Met director Philippe de Montebello is joining Acquavella Galleries.

The move, announced Wednesday, is effective immediately. As a director at Acquavella, de Montebello will curate special exhibitions and develop publications for the Upper East Side gallery. De Montebello previously helmed the Metropolitan Museum of Art, stepping down in 2008 to end his widely heralded, 31-year tenure. “I think it’s one of the great art galleries,” de Montebello said of Acquavella. To the extent it ever existed, the line between commercial and institutional interests in the art world has become increasingly blurred in recent months. In July of last year, Eric Shiner left a directorship at the Andy Warhol Museum to join Sotheby’s as a senior vice president in its fine art division.

05  Six members of the administration of deposed South Korean president Park Geun-hye have been sent to jail for blacklisting thousands of artists for their political beliefs.

The discovery of government blacklist in December of 2016 caused public uproar that contributed to the ex-president’s impeachment, removal from office, and arrest in March. Names of those blacklisted have not yet been released, however officials estimate that at least 10,000 people were denied access to government-funded programs for their criticism of Park. The news has spurred hundreds of lawsuits by South Korean artists against Park and her aides, in addition to a call for new protective legislation for politically based discrimination. Park’s former chief of staff, Kim Ki-choon, has been sentenced to three years for ordering staff to create and subsequently lie about the blacklist. Previous culture ministers Kim Jong-deok and Cho Yoon-sun respectively received a two-year sentence and a recently suspended sentence for a conviction of perjury before the National Assembly. Park herself faces a variety of criminal charges that include accepting bribery and collusion in political oppression of dissidents.

06  Sotheby’s stock reached its highest price this week since the company went public in 1988.

Shares of Sotheby’s have climbed 45% this year, closing out Tuesday at above $57 before falling slightly to start trading on Friday at $56.61. The share price is a vote of confidence in the leadership of CEO Tad Smith, who was hired in March to help steady the company, and the product of a share buyback effort. David Schick, lead retail analyst at Consumer Edge Research LLC, told Bloomberg that a weaker U.S. dollar and the strength of the high end of the art market are also driving the stock upwards. Sotheby’s “has gone from more old-fashioned to modern, including more information flow between business units and more rapid digital-media work,” Schick said. The 273-year-old auction house will release its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday.

07  Rock star Alice Cooper has discovered a classic Warhol silkscreen that sat rolled up in a storage locker for 40 years.

Andy Warhol’s unsigned piece from the Death and Disaster series depicts a red Little Electric Chair. The work is based on a press photograph of the death chamber at Sing Sing prison where Ethel and Julius Rosenberg were executed for conspiracy in 1953. Cooper’s silkscreen reportedly disappeared into his touring equipment where it remained until four years ago, when Cooper’s manager, Shep Gordon, heard about how much a similar piece went for at auction. A green version of the work from 1964 sold for $11.6 million at Christie’s in 2015. However, without a signature or authentication, Cooper’s Warhol may not be worth that much if sold. The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts stopped authenticating work after a 2011 legal dispute. But Richard Polsky, a Warhol expert, said it was valid, dating the diminutive 22 x 28 inch canvas to 1964 or 1965. According to Polsky, at the time the unsettling image of the chair was “not an easy sell,” but a half-century on, that could prove otherwise.

08  The search for the Colosseum’s next director will include foreign candidates after a national tribunal in Italy tossed out an earlier regional ruling.

A previous court decision had blocked the hiring of non-Italian directors to run several of the country’s most significant museums and archaeological sites. On Monday, Italy’s Council of State overturned this ruling—a decision celebrated by culture minister Dario Franceschini, who is currently interviewing candidates for the directorship. (Of the 82 current applicants, 16 come from outside Italy, he said.) Franceschini’s plan to hire foreign specialists to run Italian institutions is part of a wider initiative to revitalize the country’s ailing museum system. It has faced continuous resistance, however. Monday’s decision is the second this summer to dismiss rulings by the same regional body, which had previously fired five newly-hired museum directors in May.

09  Microsoft quickly canceled plans to scrap Microsoft Paint after an outpouring of fan support.

On Monday, the company announced that it would no longer update and soon phase out Microsoft Paint as part of its fall operating system update. Fans of Paint, which launched in 1985 on the original iteration of the Windows OS, responded in something of a digital revolt. Along with a peppering of nostalgic tweets, the hashtag #RIPMSPaint trended on Twitter Monday. While other Microsoft software programs, like Outlook Express and the Reader app, will also be integrated into new browsers or simply be cut, none garnered a comparable level of protest. In response to the internet outcry, the Microsoft has reportedly decided to keep Paint as an app in the Windows store alongside a new image editing application, MS Paint 3D, which offers photo editing and 2D creation in addition to new three-dimensional creation capabilities.

10  Banksy’s Girl with Balloon (2002) has been crowned the U.K.’s favorite artwork.

Beating out a long-time favorite, John Constable’s The Hay Wain (1821), Banksy’s stencil was selected in a poll that asked respondents to choose their five favorite work from a shortlist picked by art writers. The piece by the anonymous graffiti artist originally appeared on a bridge in the South Bank of London. It also appeared in the East End, where it prompted outrage when the building owner proposed removing and selling it. A cardboard cutout of the piece sold in 2012 for £73,000. Following Banksy and Constable, the poll found that the country’s favorite works are Jack Vettriano’s The Singing Butler (1992), JMW Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire (1839), and Antony Gormley’s The Angel of the North (1998). Only two of the top twenty artists are female: Bridget Riley and Maggi Hambling. The survey was commissioned by Samsung to appear on a TV that shows a work of art when turned off.
