Books!! Thanks to @officialmood for the tag :)
An estimate of how many physical books I own: Me, staring at my bookcases and doing an estimate per shelf x number of shelves... maybe 500? (and if you include ebooks, then there are 304 books in my to read folder and 339 in my read and keep folder). AND I did a big clear out before I moved last year. And took four bags to the charity book shop earlier this year. I cycle a lot of second hand books in and out tbh.
Favorite author: There are loads of favourite books and I could pretty much go on about most of the books on my shelves, but I think I could continue to lose myself in Lois McMaster Bujold's books over and over and over again. I know that Georgette Heyer books are very much Of Their Time but it is also true that if I ever need a comfort read then I know what to reach for.
A popular book I've never read and never intend to read: Godddddddddd. Liza said Infinite Jest and I also have zero intention of ever reading this. But SO MANY.
A popular book I thought was just meh: Red, White, and Royal Blue. I did not get along with Wolf Hall, but I also didn't get that far into it before giving in.
Longest book I own: Toss up between the Neal Stephenson Baroque Cycle volumes, War and Peace, Samantha Shannon's The Priory of the Orange Tree (although I've lent this out and probably won't get it back), and Victoria Goddard's Hands of the Emperor / At The Feet of the Sun. They're all pretty chunky, without doing any specific investigation.
Longest series I own all the books to: Elinor M. Brent-Dyer's Chalet School series (approx 62 books, depending on which editions you own). After that, Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series.
Prettiest book I own: I don't own any where the cover is the prettiest thing I've ever seen, but I do own a queer historical photography book where together the inside and out is the prettiest visual history. Some of my books are v pretty because of the way they make me feel, but that's a different question.
A book or series I wish more people knew about: Maybe Hands of the Emperor by Victoria Goddard? There's a core few of us that feel a lot about it. One of my very oldest internet friends that I haven't seen in years sent me a package earlier in the year that was just a notebook that had reminded her of this book and therefore it was a necessity to share it with me (she was right to do this). I also kind of want more people to talk to about Joan Aiken's Black Hearts in Battersea series.
Book I’m reading now: I'm listening to Jingo by Terry Pratchett, have just picked up the second Sandman volume, and I'm partway through Our Wives Under The Sea by Julia Armfield (although I realised last night that it was too creepy for me to read in bed, lollllllll)
Book that’s been on my TBR list for a while but I still haven’t gotten around to it: BRB just going to stare into an invisible camera, my goodreads to read pile is 462 books long and is only made up of stuff that I own / once owned and is probably not up to date with paperbacks. Let's say The Simarillion, because I've probably intended to read that since I was a kid (and have not yet managed it). I've read 133 books so far this year and yet my to read pile never gets any fucking smaller.
Do you have any books in a language other than English: Nope. I used to own some HP books in German and Latin but I did not keep them. I am not very good at languages, although me and the Duolingo owl are trapped in a daily standoff.
Paperback, hardcover or ebook?: Mixture of all three. Love a good paperback but I am... gently allergic to paper, so sometimes if I've read too many paper books my hands pay the price, and on the whole I do believe that skin should stay on my body, where I've put it, rather than peel off and bleed. A healthy mix of ebook and paperbook in general, with the odd hardback.
People have probably already done this, but tagging @junkshop-disco, @magog83, @dearmrsawyer, and @pennyplainknits.

From Terry Willesee Tonight, November 30, 1984.
“[Derek Taylor] taught me to just be myself… which I always tried to be.” - interview conducted by Larry Kane in the mid-‘60s, quoted in When They Were Boys (2013) “Just remember, he [George] has enormous intellectual curiosity; he wants to know everything. […] George may be the youngest Beatle and all that, but he is beyond his years in his values, and in his pursuit of the truth, and I might add quite candidly, his ability to [be] direct and sometimes painfully honest.” - Derek Taylor, interview conducted by Larry Kane, quoted in When They Were Boys (2013) “I always wanted to do something on my own, but it was easier said than done. Derek [Taylor] had more faith in me than I did. He, Joan and the kids often visited us at Friar Park where we got merry together; I liked to show him how I made my garden grow. He was always telling me I could make it on my own if I wanted to.” - George Harrison, as told to Ivor Davies in 1997, quoted in ‪The Beatles‬ And Me On Tour (2014) “Reading what Derek Taylor had to say about George was captivating once again. Perceptions of the man I dearly love by someone as insightful and articulate as Derek have become somehow more important to me. Derek and George exchanged a special banter that often left others in the room completely bewildered by their verbal shorthand. It took time if you wanted to join in because their points of reference were wide reaching and covered decades of colorful and obscure characters and events, many shared during the phenomenal days of the Beatles that gave them a private world of experiences from which to draw. ” - Olivia Harrison, from the 2002 introduction to I Me Mine (x)

I’m going to talk about the Dark is Rising, and there will be spoilers.
cws:  Disablism, isolation, growing up queer, undiagnosed trans and neurodivergent. I was recently talking with a new friend of a similar age to me about our shared childhood reading. I had been joking about being some sort of chosen one because I was born at dawn on the winter solstice. He asked if I was also the seventh son of a seventh son. I said sadly no I was not, I was not in fact even a son, I have been called a daughter but never a son, but speaking of seventh sons, had he listened to the BBC production of… He finished my sentence with “…The Dark is Rising?” as if he’d read my mind. For a great many of us elder-millennial and Gen X British people this book was a formative part of our childhoods.  For me, the strange little undiagnosed-autistic changeling child who hid in the library, it, and other books like it were a refuge.  The children in them were thoughtful and brave and I understood their motivations, unlike the real children at school who were incomprehensible erratic yelling beings that never listened to reason. I read the third book of the Dark is Rising sequence first: Greenwitch. I would comb the small local library in the south Manchester suburb I grew up in for anything that looked vaguely fantastical and read it voraciously. Along with Susan Cooper there was Joan Aiken, Ursula Le Guin, Tamora Pierce, Penelope Lively, Diana Wynne Jones and of course Terry Pratchett who once kindly told a fourteen-year old me how to beat level twelve of Tomb Raider II (“don’t kill the monks”, he said “when there are monks fighting mafia you’re obviously supposed to help the monks and kill the mafia”). Often, I ended up reading books from the middle of a series before the beginning because it was what was available to me.   In Greenwitch, the Drew Children who we meet in Over Sea, Under Stone, must recover a lost thing of power from a very typically folk-horror wicker being, a being that is shown as very distinctly female. It is the first book which features both Will Stanton, from the Dark is Rising and the Drew Children. Will Stanton is an Old One, but also a young boy, a being of the power of the Light, old before his time. He is quiet, thoughtful, and always cut off from his peers, and of course, we share our solstice birthday. This loneliness, this I could understand. In Greenwitch all the power of the magic of the Light and Dark is not enough to make the titular being give up her treasure, but the compassion of Jane Drew persuades her to do so. This strange, powerful femininity, the femininity of this creature weaved by women, ancient but also newborn, this I could understand.  This being who was too old and too strange to bow to the binary power of the Light or the Dark, this I could understand.
When you are a neurodivergent child you live outside of the rest of humanity, old before your time, understanding too much but also bewildered by their strange behaviour. When you are a nonbinary child (and it is difficult to explain how intricately these two things are linked in me) you live outside of gender, not understanding why you must obey these strange rules for girls and not obey the rules for boys, never quite relating to one or the other, but forced to perform the one you were assigned. In both Jane and Will I saw a little of myself. So it has been throughout my life, wondering why I did not entirely relate to either male or female characters, why the pagan faiths I looked into insisted on forcing magic and power into this prison of two, never understanding until very late on that there was a hidden magic of queerness and genderfluidity out there, erased and suppressed, but still bubbling beneath the surface. I have often found sanctuary in monsters and immortal beings because they are free of constraint, free of humanity, and free of expectation.   The final two books in the series, along with those of Diana Wynne Jones, Alan Garner’s the Owl Service and Jenni Nimmo’s Snow Spider trilogy also gave me a lifelong love of Wales and the Welsh language. Growing up not too far from the Welsh border meant we spent a lot of time there on holidays. It still feels a little like coming home to go to Wales, although I am not in any way Welsh to the best of my knowledge.
Listening to the BBC audiodrama brought back those old memories to me. You can hear the ice and snow in the shivery soundscaping, feel the wild strength of rushing water and thundering binaural hooves.  I think I detected in the score reflections of the music of that one version of the Box of Delights, another Christmas favourite of my childhood. Toby Jones’ performance as the Walker engendered the same compassion in me as it did when I first read Will objecting to his treatment. One of the episodes of my horrible clown audiodrama contains a small homage to the scenes of the Wild Hunt.
These are the sounds of my childhood being retold. I recommend the Dark is Rising to you, funky little tumblr goblin children. I bequeath you the blorbos of my youth. May you find the refuge in the things you love, that I did in this book.

All Falls Down (3/4)
Prisoner: Cell Block H   |   Joan Ferguson/Terri Malone
Part 3 of the Fake Dating AU thing!  There’s an explanation in the first chapter, and though it’s also in the AO3 tags, just a warning: this story, specifically this chapter, deals pretty heavily and explicitly with homophobia.
"Can I ask you something?" said Julie one day, with uncharacteristic hesitancy.  Her eyes were focused on the card house they were attempting to construct, their newest project since they had exhausted their limited knowledge of card games.
"Sure," said Joan.
Julie fixed two cards into a triangle, balanced them carefully with a grim set to her brow. "Why don't you...say anything? About the way everyone treats you?"
Joan averted her gaze, fiddled with the seven of hearts she held between her hands.  "What good would it do?  Anyway, the teachers don't like me any better."  She didn't have the words for the way she understood her place in the world then.  Now she would tell Julie that the teachers must surely have known without wanting to know.
Julie let out a huff of frustration, and what little progress they'd made tumbled to the ground. She did finally convince Joan to come over to her house, on days when she could be reasonably certain of her mother's work schedule, and though the atmosphere was generally far more pleasant, to say that the arrangement felt tenuous would be an understatement.
"I just don't understand it!" said Julie.  She picked up one of the cards and tossed it aimlessly atop the ruins.  "Did you do something I don't know about?"
Joan scoffed. "You've heard what they call me."
A heavy and telling silence followed.  Joan traced the shape of a heart with her thumb.

"You couldn’t sleep. Rain pelted down on the roof of the Nabootique. You sat on a weathered, old couch, watching droplets of water race down the windowpane.
"Hey," you turned sharply, startled by the voice. It was Vince. "Sorry if I scared you."
"No, it's okay. I couldn't sleep."
"Neither could I." Vince strode over to you, and seated himself on the couch. "Never liked the colour of this. And the upholstery-" he paused, running his hand along the armrest closest to himself. "It's absolute shit! I wanted to get a red vinyl one. You know, like my Joan Jett jumpsuit?"
You chuckled at his comment.
"But Naboo said it was too expensive."
Vince tilted his neck to face you, his blue eyes locking on yours. He smiled warmly. You couldn't help but notice your stomach backflip.
You and Vince had been good friends for years. You first met him and Howard working at the Zooniverse. With time you befriended Naboo and Bollo, and before you knew it, the five of you were sharing a place. You'd never viewed any of them as anything more than friends... well... sometimes you found yourself getting nervous around Vince... but you couldn't be anything more than friends. He was always inviting over those goth girls anyway.
"I'm really liking this robe, by the way, y/n." Vince reached for the satin garment and rubbed the fabric between his fingers. "Topshop?"
"You got it."
"I love robes. They are so effortlessly chic. Make me feel like some sort of posh French duke." He put on a pompous accent. "Oh, dear heavens, my wife seems to have been beheaded by the masses!"
You clapped with obvious exaggeration, making a mockery of his little performance.
He smirked cheekily, allowing the satin to slip from his grasp. His eyes once more met yours. And then he leaned in closer, as though testing the waters. All it took was the tickle of his warm breath on your cheek, and your lips were on his.
You gasped, having registered your lack of self-control, pulling away instantly. "Vince, I am so sorry."
"No need to be sorry, sweetheart." And he kissed you back. This time you didn't pull away. Vince deepened the kiss, allowing his lips to oscillate against yours. His hand cradled the back of your neck, as you ran your fingers along his sharp jawline.
Suddenly your ears pricked up; someone was climbing the staircase. He clearly heard the approaching footsteps too, as he pulled away hastily.
“Quick, y/n! I’m here!” Vince dragged you by the hands away into his room, shutting the door softly behind the both of you. You couldn’t hold in your laughter.
“Vince?” It was Howard.
“Shhhhhh.” Vince mimed, placing a finger over his lips, clearly struggling to keep a straight face.
“Vince?! Where the bloody hell are you?” He yelled louder.
Vince took the opportunity to whisper instructions to you. “Hide behind the bed!”
You had to literally keep a hand over your mouth, to hold in the laughter. You heard the door creak open.
“Jesus Howard! It’s like 1am!”
“Oh like this isn’t your normal bedtime hour!”
“It’s not actually,” Vince smirked. “I usually fall asleep at 1:30.”
Howard merely shook his head.
“Anyway, what d’you want, Howard? I was just about to settle down with my Rolling Stone magazine.”
“What and give Terry Nutkins a good licking?” Howard muttered under his breath.
“Hmm?”
“Nothing. Look, Vince, have you seen the telephone? It’s not in its usual spot on the bench downstairs and it’s really stressing me out. You know how unorganized technology puts me on edge!”
Vince rolled his eyes, attempting an inconspicuous glance over his shoulder to check that you were hidden from view. This didn’t go unnoticed by Howard Moon.
“What are you looking at Vince?” He questioned accusingly.
“What?”
“Don’t play dumb with me, sir. I saw you look over your shoulder! God, you haven’t invited one of those goth girls over!”
“No of course not, Howard!”
“Vince-“
“Look, Howard I really need to go now-“
“But-“
“Byeee Howard!” Vince slammed the door in his face, locking it behind him.
“VINCE!"
"He'll give up in a second," he whispered to you. "Just wait..."
"VINCE!"
"3..."
"You're a bloody tart, you know that!"
"2..."
"I don't know what those girls see in you. You're not a real man anyway!!."
"1..."
"That's it, I'm going to bed." You could make out Howard's muffled sigh from behind the door, as he began to descend the stairs.
"See, I told you!" Vince then made his way over to you, holding his hand out to you. You took it, and he hauled you up to your feet. His expression grew serious.
"Now... where were we...?" Vince allowed his tongue to graze the inside of his cheek.
You couldn't help but laugh.
"What?" He was smiling too, whatever feeble attempt at being "seductive" clearly abdicated.
"'What?', 'what?'" You teased. "What was that?"
"I was tryna be sexy! Really masculine, and sensual, like Hugh Grant!"
You chuckled sweetly at his remark. "I'm sorry to say, it doesn't exactly suit you, Vince Noir."
Vince wrapped his arms around you suddenly, pulling you into a kiss. His lips curled into that signature cheeky smirk of his.
"Dear god," You put on an exaggerated posh accent, similar of Vince's moments ago (though not nearly as well executed). "I think I may swoon if you continue to ravish me so, sir!"
Vince pulled away ever-so-slightly, resting the tip of his nose against yours, once more assuming his pompous facade. "Well, it's a good thing I shall be here to catch you, my dear lady."
You smiled sweetly, admiring his blue eyes, noticing the faint strokes of white that streaked his irises. The moment was short-lived, however, as your lips were once more connected with his, this time with more passion than your previous kisses.
"Y/n..." Vince mumbled. His lips trailed down your cheek, as he buried his face in your neck. He pressed his mouth to your skin, and sucked ever so slightly. You allowed a gasp to escape your lips. You snaked your hands around his head. He brought his face back up to yours.
"Easy with the hair, darlin'. Took me a good hour to style this." He teased.
"Hmm, even the more reason to mess it up."
"Oh, you cheeky little minx!"
You giggled, attempting to distract yourself from the flush growing inside of you.
"You're blushing." He smirked.
"I guess I must really like you then"
Vince grinned, a playfully boyish expression flashing behind his eyes. Within an instant, he picked you up in his arms, and placed you carefully on the bed. He lay himself beside you and stared into your eyes.
"Are you a virgin?" His question took you by surprise. His tone was neither lustful, nor lewd however.
"Vince?!" You laughed.
"What? I'm just asking!" Vince took your hand in his. "Y/n... I really like you."
"So do I."
"Like I really like you. As in my feeling for you go deeper than physical attraction." He spoke so candidly. You admired that. "That being said... I was wondering if maybe... only if you were comfortable of course... and please, please, please say no if you don't want to..."
"What is it, Vince?"
"Well, I was wondering if perhaps you maybe might want to have sex with me?"
You bit your lip. "I am."
"Hmm?"
"A virgin." You felt your cheeks turn pink. "I've never..." You paused considering your words. "...done it before. But I really do like you, Vince. And I would like to... with you." You cringed at your own awkwardness.
Vince merely smiled. "No need to be embarrassed, sweetheart." He held your hand tightly. "We all have to start somewhere."
"I'd like to start tonight."
"Are you sure? Please don't feel pressured to, Y/n. The last thing I want is to hurt you, and if you're not ready then that is a-okay."
"I'm being honest! I want you..." You were the one smirking now. "Just kiss me already."
Vince's lips were soon trailing your body. He began to cautiously pull your top over your head, having already removed your robe, revealing your half-naked torso. You followed suit with him, reaching around his back to unzip his jumpsuit. You brushed your hands over his bare chest, as Vince leaned in for another kiss...
"What the bloody hell is going on in here!"
The both of you instantly froze up. Vince hastily pulled the covers over your chest, preserving your modesty
It was Naboo. His face was plastered with a look of terror.
"Naboo, you bloody idiot! Get the fuck out!"
"I'm sorry! I just got home from the club and I thought you'd be awake! I had no idea I'd walk in on this!"
"What are you still standing there for, gawking?! Get out! You fucking pervert! Jesus Christ! What are you? Stoned?"
"Alright, alright, I'm going!" He threw his hands up in defense and quickly strode out.
Vince got to his feet and locked the door. "I swear, these idiots will be the death of me! First Howard, now him? Bloody hell!"
You couldn't help but laugh, although it was rather shocking to be walked-in-on.
Vince sighed, before resuming his place next to you.
"Now where were we?" He hovered his lips over yours.
"Right about here I believe..."
***
The followng morning you awoke beside him. He was stroking your hair softly.
"Good morning, my sweet." Vince kissed your forehead, his bangs tickling your face. "How did you sleep?"
"Mmmm," you stretched your arms out, proppong yourself up against the headboard. "Quite well, thank you. And you?"
"Delightfully."
After what seemed to be half an hour of morning cuddling, the two of you donned your respective robes and headed downstairs.
"Hey guys." Vince greeted your friends. Naboo sat on the couch with Bollo, smoking, while good old Howard Moon stood behind the counter, a cup of fresh coffee in hand.
"OOOOOooooo, if it isn't the two lovebirds!" He taunted. This was followed up by a cat call-like whistle from Naboo.
"Oh piss off you two. Mind your own business." Vince retorted. He dragged you away to the kitchen to fetch coffee. "Jesus, I swear to god I will kill those idiots some day."
"But we love them, however annoying and intrusive they are."
He poured you a cup. "I truly had a wonderful night last night."
"As did I, Vince."
"So... does that mean I can call you.... do I get to call you... my girl now?" There was that iconic smirk once more.
"Only if I get to call you my man?"
"Of course, my girl."

Note
I've been rereading some of your fics, and with you saying prompts are open, I gotta ask, update on director sanvers v with Alex as the hinge? Absolutely no pressure, esp cause it seems you wanna branch out a bit more, but damn if I've wondered how they are doing
Hey there! Probably won't get to a whole fic about these three anytime soon, but perhaps you'd enjoy a few random headcanons about how things have been going? (also I've been feeling particularly attached to them of late after seeing TLW Gen Q really drop the ball on their attempt at poly stories :/ )
- Alex is still the hinge partner; Maggie's not seeing anyone else, but she's really enjoying having a bit more time for herself and the community garden plot she got (after 2 years on the waiting list); Lucy went back to the law after Marsdin's new legislation hit the books, and she splits the time she's not holed up in her office with Alex and Vasquez (who she's still dating and still refusing to go camping with; no matter how good at it she can be, it doesn't make it something she wants to do)
- Superfriends game nights have pretty much abandoned certain games like charades, pictionary, and taboo because even with a "no Danvers sisters on one team" rule, no one stands a chance, and it always came down to Alex and Maggie vs. Lucy and Vasquez. Winn campaigned hard for them to try DND (dammit, he's always wanted to DM a big campaign), and once he had Brainy and Nia on his side, he managed to sway the whole group. (Alex was the most resistant, but she was finally swayed with the promise that she could design her own weaponry.) Kara proposed that they play in the Sky High universe, and it was just ridiculous enough for everyone to agree. Lucy and Maggie both voluntarily chose to be classified as sidekicks, and they've bonded over pitching the most ridiculous schemes that only their random sidekick powers can facilitate, supers be damned, and Lucy's got a +7 on charisma that pretty much guarantees she always gets her way. (Their characters are now dating, and they tease Alex about how much she blushes at seeing them flirt.)
- Maggie and Vasquez joke a lot about buying a row of houses so that they don't have to build commute time into their massive shared calendar anymore. It was a running joke until they found a massive duplex on the outskirts of town with enough space for Maggie to garden up front and a big fenced-in backyard, which feels more and more important by the day as Alex keeps spamming the group chat with 90lb mutts in need of a loving home, and everyone's fairly certain that they'll be at a 1:1 human:dog ratio before long. The house needs a million and one repairs, but dammit, they've got tool belts and a bit of knowledge and an extensive history of YouTube searches about "how to x," and they're making it work. (Plus, Kara's handy in a pinch. Like when they need someone to lift the house up just enough to peek at the foundations...)
- Technically the houses are divided, but they've installed an inside door that's almost never locked. Besides, the good kitchen is on one side, and the better living room set up is on the other, so it's only fair that they keep an open passage readily available. (After Gertrude gets a brother who Alex names Harold to the surprise of no one in the house and the confusion of everyone in the neighborhood, they take down the door entirely. Apparently doggy doors don't work too well for 110 lb great pyrenees mixes barreling through them at 25mph.) On Saturdays, Vasquez, Lucy, and Maggie pile into the good living room and watch college football, while Alex and Kara head out to brunch for some well-deserved sister time, though once basketball season starts Alex is the first one in front of that TV. The neighbors aren't really up to speed with what's going on with the house and its residents (Maggie's overheard multiple people swearing that only 3 women live there, plus one neighbor who's convinced that every last one of the superfriends has a bedroom in the house), but they're welcoming enough regardless. (Except Terry, but Joan, the elderly woman next door, assures them that Terry "doesn't have much going on up there, if you know what I mean.") Besides, what really matters is that they win the neighborhood Halloween decorating contest. Every. Single. Year.

Track by Track Review - Hottest 100 2020
Wrote this article a little bit ago just for fun. Decided to post it on here with the thought of maybe getting back to the Bish Review. Also, put an asterix next to my votes (songs that made my top 10). Anyway, here we go:
100. Kool - BENEE
One of the many gems from ‘Hey u x’. Unlucky to hear her biggest hit so early on.
99. Itch - Hockey Dad
I thought ‘Brain Candy’ was a little bit of a disappointment, but Itch was one of the strongest tracks they duo have released.
98. Your Man - Joji
Surprised to hear this track in the countdown. Pretty solid tune though
97. Audacity (feat. Headie One) - Stormzy
He’s still one of the best from the UK rap scene and this track shows why.
96. Germaphobe - Hockey Dad
One of the weaker tracks, I thought, off Brain Candy, but not surprised a lot of Hockey Dad fans liked this one. Definitely plays into their audience’s taste.
95. Loose Ends (feat. G Flip) - Illy
I do not like Aussie Hip Pop. This track is not an exception.
94. Rain (feat. Tay Keith) - Aitch and AJ Tracey
The piano in this is very ‘Humble’ - Kendrick Lamar. Still a banger though.
93. Lemonade (feat. Gunna, Don Toliver and NAV) - Internet Money
Bit of a forgettable track. It’s okay, but feels like there’s a lot better like this out there.
92. These Days - Thelma Plum
First cover of the countdown. Still one of the best Hottest 100 number ones, and Thelma does it justice.
91. Charlie - Bugs
Second cover of the countdown. I do like this but I feel it doesn’t reach the same heights as the original.
90. No Time To Die - Billie Eilish
A little expected from Eilish but still a solid Bond song (the second in history to make it).
89. In Her Eyes - The Jungle Giants
I cannot wait for the new Jungle Giants album. They’ve gotten better and better with each release.
88. Heart Attack (feat. lau.ra) - BRONSON*
I fell deeply in love with this song the second I heard it. It just has this quiet yet strong emotion behind it. The production on it is something else as well.
87. Three Leaf Clover - Teenage Joans
A really solid debut single by the Unearthed High winners. Can’t wait to hear more from them.
86. Laugh Now Cry Now (feat. Lil Durk) - Drake
I still don’t get the hype for Drake. The falsetto “baby” in the chorus also never ceases to make me laugh.
85. Too Tough Terry - Dune Rats
Dunies slow descent from mature stoner pop to edgy tracks for teens has been hard to watch. This song just seems like a parody of the band.
84. Chicken Tenders - Dominic Fike
Has to be the sexiest song about the best thing in the frozen food section at the supermarket. Pity the album didn’t live up to the hype.
83. Down For You - Cosmo’s Midnight and Ruel
I was really keen for this once I heard about the collaboration between the two. Unfortunately it felt a little too much like a Ruel song and it doesn’t really feel like Cosmo’s Midnight had much of a touch on it.
82. The Clap - The Chats
It’s a bit generic for The Chats but I just like hearing them get more popular. Just hilarious dudes.
81. Weightless - Spacey Jane
One of the stronger and more unique tracks on Sunlight. The synth touches really suit the band.
80. Freaks - FISHER
Cannot wait for FISHER to just slowly fade away. His tracks all sound the same and are so basic.
79. my future - Billie Eilish
One of the best tracks Eilish has released. Love how this just turns halfway through from a really soft ballad to a bit of an electro pop song.
78. Lady Marmalade - G Flip
It’s a nice cover. The video of G Flip performing it though is really fun.
77. House Arrest - Sofi Tukker and Gorgon City
This song bangs pretty hard. I like a lot of Sofi Tukker have really been putting out some solid stuff.
76. Baby It’s You - London Grammar
This is a great track, that synth in the chorus is heavenly.
75. Photo ID - Remi Wolf
I do like this song but it reminds me of a track from the 80s or 90s and I can’t put my finger on what that track is.
74. Scream Drive Faster - LAUREL
When I first heard this I thought Ladyhawke was back in the mainstream. Little disappointed it wasn’t, but this slaps.
73. Don’t Need You - Genesis Owusu*
Possibly the best chorus of the year. Owusu has stepped up massively in the Australian Hip Hop scene.
72. Way Down - Ocean Alley
Ocean Alley have plateaued. ‘Lonely Diamond’ just felt like the band had become comfortable.
71. Obey - Bring Me The Horizon and YUNGBLUD
I just can’t take BMTH seriously anymore. They’re music has become so comically edgy.
70. Low - Chet Faker
Hey look, Nick Murphy has become Chet Faker again. Don’t know why he changes between the two when one is just slightly more soulful than the other, but he does release nice tunes.
69. Second - Hope D
I do like this female, Aussie version of Jamie T. It’s a really nice track. Also the number 69 is claimed by Hope D. haha.
68. Lie to Me - Vera Blue
I don’t know what it is exactly, but there’s something about Vera which just puts her on a different level than her counterparts. She’s just that consistently good.
67. Boss Bitch - Doja Cat
This track doesn’t get old for me. It’s so much fun, and Doja Cat owns it. Love it.
66. Fantasising - Skegss
This track really does have a very “Three Leaf Clover” vibe. I have enjoyed Skegss in the past but their new stuff hasn’t captured my attention really. Seems a bit run of the mill.
65. C’MON (feat. Travis Barker) - Amy Shark
I actually don’t mind this song, but why does it feature Travis Barker. It’s a piano ballad featuring a punk drummer, and he really doesn’t do that much. I’m confused, was he jealous of Mark Hoppus?
64. Soak Me In Bleach - The Amity Affliction
The song title reflects my thoughts when I hear that The Amity Affliction have released a new one. There are so many better Aussie metal bands out there.
63. Day & Age - Ball Park Music
BPM have a knack for writing amazing ballads. I wasn’t huge on their latest album, but tracks like this continue me having them in my good books.
62. Run - Joji
One of the best tracks Joji has released. A really mature song for the artist and a step in the right direction for him.
61. Pretty Grim - Ruby Fields
Ruby is good, but I feel she’s starting to release the same song over and over. Need something fresh.
60. Go (feat. Juice WRLD) - The Kid LAROI
Probably the strongest track by The Kid LAROI, but Juice WRLD outshines him just due to his vocal tone. He just sounds better.
59. Gimme Love - Joji
And that’s three for Joji. I really like how this song has two distinct sections and both are solid without overshadowing the other.
58. Fly Away - Tones and I
I still don’t get why Tones and I puts on that fake accent in her songs. It just detracts from what could be a nice pop song.
57. Sobercoaster - Beddy Rays
Really didn’t expect this to get so high. I’m happy though because it’s a really fun song.
56. On The Line - San Cisco
Tracks like this keep me invested in San Cisco. They can really release some brilliant stuff.
55. I Think You’re Great - Alex The Astronaut
The fine line between overly chessy and adorably optimistic is what Alex walks on with every track. I think this falls on the former side sadly.
54. Blue - Eiffel 65 (Flume Remix)
The fact that Flume puts so much of his identity into this remix is why Flume has been one of the most successful Aussie acts this past decade.
53. In Your Eyes - The Weeknd
If The Weeknd release ‘Blinding Lights’ a month later I’d believe that he would take out this countdown. He didn’t though and instead we are left with this solid track in the bottom 50.
52. The Glow - DMA’s
Why? Why did DMA’s have to get so poppy and generic. I loved their first two album, but I struggled to get through the third.
51. Your Love (Déjà Vu) - Glass Animals
Out of the three big hits the band had in 2020, this is the most underrated. There is so much going on here, yet it never feels muddled. Wavey Davey on fire here.
50. Nothing To Love About Love - Peking Duk and The Wombats
Although this is a nice song, there’s been so many 80s electro pop throwbacks recently that have been done better that this collab just fades into the background.
49. Wishing Well - Juice WRLD
This song is so beautiful and heart-breaking. Really shows why Juice WRLD became such a beloved artist so quickly.
48. Ain’t It Different (feat. AJ Tracey and Stormzy) - Headie One
This is a really cool collab. They use the Red Hot Chili Peppers sample so well and really flow so well with it that it feels almost effortless.
47. Animals - Architects
I like a lot about this track, but the chorus really hits another level. Feels cathartic to scream along to.
46. Pretty Lady - Tash Sultana
Was hoping Tash would move into a more psychedelic direction with their newer stuff, but this is still a fine track.
45. as long as you care - Ruel
A pretty by the books Ruel song, but he really does this style so well.
44. You & I - G Flip
Probably G Flips strongest release this year. The chorus has a lot of flavour.
43. together - Ziggy Alberts
Generic acoustic track by generic Byron Bay artist. He really took the cake this year for dumbest comparison, when he compared wearing a face mask to the holocaust. Thought he’d suffer a bit for it, but apparently his fanbase grew stronger.
42. WHATS POPPIN - Jack Harlow
Jack Harlow is just so much fun. He’s killing it, and WHATS POPPIN is proof of that. Keep the bangers coming Harlow.
41. I Still Dream About You - The Smith Street Band
I felt I was growing out of The Smith Street Band, their newer music just not resonating to me. Then they drop this and make me a big fan again.
40. Come & Go (with Marshmello) - Juice WRLD
Just that chorus. It is so enjoyable. He really was going places.
39. Righteous - Juice WRLD
A back to back, and from one of the more exciting songs on the album we get to one of the more sombre tracks. Everything from the guitar, the vocals, those synth notes. . . this track is just a perfect send off for the artist. R.I.P. Juice.
38. Parasite Eve - Bring Me The Horizon
This song is so unironically cringe and edgy that it somehow becomes ironically fun. It does the full circle.
37. SO DONE - The Kid LAROI
I do like The Kid LAROI, but his vocals on this, combined with the lyrics, just make him sound like a child chucking a temper tantrum. It does make me laugh though.
36. forget me too (feat. Halsey) - Machine Gun Kelly
If this song was released in the early 00s (where it belongs), it would’ve faded into oblivion. At least Halsey sounds pretty solid on her verse though.
35. Running Red Lights (feat. Rivers Cuomo & Pink Siifu) - The Avalanches*
My personal number one for the year. This song has that melancholic, nostalgic feel to it that just hits home every time. Also one of Cuomo’s strongest vocal performances.
34. Everybody Rise - Amy Shark
This song is fine. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it, but it’s fun to sing-a-long to.
33. Breathe Deeper - Tame Impala
One of the best tracks from The Slow Rush. I love that piano motif throughout, and the bass is so funky. That weird bridge section towards the end is also pretty slick.
32. Criminals - DMA’s
The real criminals are the ones who told DMA’s this was a good idea. I just can’t get around their new stuff. I miss ‘Hill’s End’ and ‘For Now’.
31. Reasons - San Cisco
Tracks like this keep me from becoming a full time fan of San Cisco. They can really release some average stuff.
30. Bagi-la-m Bargan (feat. Fred Leone) - Birdz
Powerful. Birdz really took it to another level here.
29. Dribble - Sycco
Although I find there’s a lot of similar stuff out there, I think Sycco does sound like an original voice in the Australian music scene. She’s killing it.
28. Straightfaced - Spacey Jane
Although there was a lot of good stuff on Spacey Jane’s debut album, I found it to be quite repetitive. This track was one of the ones that I found to fade into the background instead of standing out.
27. Under the Thunder - Skegss
I really want to like Skegss, they’ve released some great tunes in the past. But this just doesn’t do it for me. It’s just boring.
26. No Plans To Make Plans - Lime Cordiale
Everything that makes new The Rubens tracks so average is presented here on a Lime Cordiale track. Obnoxiously quirky.
25. Reality Check Please - Lime Cordiale
Hey back to back Lime Cordiale tracks. And another one of their weaker ones. ‘Addicted to the Sunshine’ did this chorus better.
24. Blue World - Mac Miller
Didn’t expect this to make it so high but so well deserved. This song slaps hard but still continues the tragic story that is presented on his posthumous album ‘Circles’.
23. Good News - Mac Miller*
Back to back Mac! To be honest, I am close to tears every time this track plays. If only the lyrics “there's a whole lot more for me waiting/I know maybe I'm too late, I could make it there some other time/Then I'll finally discover/That it ain't that bad” were told to Mac before his passing, because he did have so much more to offer. R.I.P. Mac.
22. Complicated - Eves Karydas
This song is so good. I’ve heard it that many times but it still hasn’t lost its shine. So damn good.
21. Energy - KLP and Stace Cadet
I was really hoping this would crack top 20. Probably the best Dance track of the year. Such a jam.
20. Addicted To The Sunshine - Lime Cordiale
Despite thinking that ‘14 Steps To A Better Living’ didn’t have many new tracks that were that good on it, this one is nice. It’s just a pleasantly nice song.
19. You Should Be Sad - Halsey
I really don’t like Pop Country music but I also find it hilarious that the genre cracked the top 20. ‘09 Taylor Swift would be proud.
18. Tangerine - Glass Animals
With Tik Tok exploding in 2020 I don’t get how this didn’t get adopted by someone on it. It’s so primed to get hyped on it.
17. Is It True - Tame Impala
I think Kevin Parker’s vocals on this are underwhelming, but that might just be because the instrumental slaps that hard. The rhythm section is so tight.
16. Screw Loose - Lime Cordiale
This sound is what Lime Cordiale do best. We need more dub influence and less elevator pop influence.
15. Skin - Spacey Jane
No matter what you think about Spacey Jane, they sure do make some emotional tracks. One of the most powerful songs on Sunlight.
14. Tombstone - Ocean Alley
The verses are average and pretty bland but the chorus is amazing. Just don’t think the album resonated with me too much, and Tombstone is another mixed track off it.
13. Rockstar - Mallrat
Possibly Mallrat’s best song yet. Her laid back, relaxed style mixed with the low-fi production really meshes well.
12. Get on the Beers (feat. Dan Andrews) - Mashd N Kutcher
I’m not going to pretend this is my style, but the way this has resonated with Australians during lockdown last year makes the track way smarter than it deserves to be. It’s both ironically and unironically good.
11. On Our Own - Lime Cordiale
I’m happy the three best new tracks of Lime Cordiale’s debut were the highest placing in this countdown. This really is a nice song.
10. Therefore I Am - Billie Eilish
Not my favourite songs from Billie but she continues to be consistently good. The production on this is immense as well.
9. I’m Good? - Hilltop Hoods
I wish old school Hilltop could hear this so could prevent themselves every going this direction. Aussie Hip Pop is not a good genre. This is one of their worst tracks yet.
8. Sending Me Ur Loving - The Jungle Giants*
This song has so much flavour too it. It’s so funky and fun and the production is so tight. Also the guitar work is underrated here, not doing much but adding that icing on the cake.
7. Hyperfine - G Flip
Every time I hear this track (and I’ve heard it a lot) I completely forget about it a couple minutes later. G Flip is good, but this is forgettable.
6. WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion) - Cardi B
I understand if this isn’t your style, but I love it. I don’t think there’s ever been a song with so many quotable moments. Every line makes a statement that will get in your head. My personal favourite? “ I let him taste it, now he diabetic”.
5. Lost In Yesterday - Tame Impala
There’s a lot of songs on ‘The Slow Rush’ I like, but Lost In Yesterday I’ve always found kinda boring. It feels a little uninspired. Surprised that this was the album’s big hit.
4. Cherub - Ball Park Music*
BPM have released some great music over the decade but I think this is their best yet. It’s beautiful, emotional and has a fantastic, cathartic breakdown at the end. I love a good build up.
3. The Difference (feat. Toro y Moi) - Flume*
Everything about this track is why Flume has been so great for so long. This track is great for any situation. If I’m partying, I play it. If I’m relaxing, I play it. If I’m getting pumped up, I play it. If I’m sad, I play it. Flexibility matters.
2. Booster Seat - Spacey Jane
OHHH-OH-OHHHHHHHH AND IT FEELS LIKE THAT AGAIN! One of the best sing-a-long tracks of the year, yet massively emotional. Like damn this song is rough.
1. Heat Waves - Glass Animals*
If I had one word to express how I feel about this winning I would say “deserved”. Not many tracks were as perfect for 2020 as this one. Glass Animals love writing absolute bangers with emotional cores and this one is one of their strongest tracks. Glass Animals just continue to outdo themselves.
That’s it for now, gonna maybe start posting again. I dunno. See how I feel. Ta-ta.

Mary William Ethelbert Appleton "Billie" Burke (August 7, 1884 – May 14, 1970) was an American actress, famous on Broadway and in early silent film and subsequently in sound film, best known to modern audiences as Glinda the Good Witch of the North in the movie musical The Wizard of Oz. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1938 for her performance as Emily Kilbourne in Merrily We Live and is also remembered for her appearances in the Topper series. Billie Burke was the wife of Broadway producer Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., of Ziegfeld Follies fame, from 1914 until his death in 1932. Her voice was unique in intonation, which she accentuated in her later character roles as dim-witted, spoiled society types.
Billie Burke was born Mary Burke, the daughter of William "Billy" Burke and Blanche (née Beatty 1844–1921), in Washington, D.C. She toured the United States and Europe with her father, who was a singer and clown and worked for the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Her family ultimately settled in London where she attended plays in the West End. In 1903, she began acting on stage, making her debut in London in The School Girl. Other London shows included The Duchess of Dantzic (1903) and The Blue Moon(1904). She eventually returned to America to star in Broadway musical comedies.
Early life
Career
Burke went on to play leads on Broadway in Mrs. Dot, Suzanne,The Runaway, The "Mind-the-Paint" Girl, and The Land of Promise from 1910 to 1913, along with a supporting role in the revival of Sir Arthur Wing Pinero's The Amazons. There she caught the eye of producer Florenz Ziegfeld, marrying him in 1914. Two years later they had a daughter, Patricia Ziegfeld Stephenson (1916–2008).

The actress's beauty and taste made her a major trendsetter throughout the 1910s and 20s. Much of her wardrobe, on screen and off, at this time was provided by the leading European couturier Lucile (in private life Lady Duff Gordon), whose New York branch was then the fashion mecca for socialites and entertainment celebrities.
Burke was signed for the movies, making her cinematic debut in the title role of Peggy (1915). Her success was phenomenal, and she was soon earning what was reputedly the highest salary granted a motion picture actress up to that time. She followed her first feature with the 15-part serial Gloria's Romance (1916), another popular and critically acclaimed vehicle. By 1917 Billie Burke was a favorite with silent movie fans, rivaling Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish,Clara Kimball Young and Irene Castle. Billie Burke starred primarily in provocative society dramas and comedies, similar in theme to The "Mind-the-Paint" Girl, her most successful American play. The star's girlish charm rivaled her acting ability, and as she dressed to the hilt in fashionable gowns, furs and jewelry, her clothes sense also won the devotion of female audiences. Among the films in which she appeared during this period were Arms and the Girl(1917), The Mysterious Miss Terry,Let's Get a Divorce (1918), Good Gracious, Annabelle (1919), Away Goes Prudence (1920) and The Frisky Mrs. Johnson (1920).
In 1933, Burke was cast as Millicent Jordan, a scatterbrained high-society woman hosting a dinner party in the comedy Dinner at Eight, directed by George Cukor, co-starring with Lionel Barrymore, Marie Dressler, John Barrymore, Jean Harlow and Wallace Beery. The movie was a great success, and revived her career. She subsequently starred in many comedies and musicals, typecast as a ditzy, fluffy and feather-brained upper-class matron with her high-pitched voice.
In 1936, MGM filmed a sanitized biopic of Florenz Ziegfeld (The Great Ziegfeld), a film that won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Actress (Luise Rainer as Ziegfeld's common-law wife, Anna Held). William Powell played Flo Ziegfeld and Myrna Loy played Burke, which infuriated Burke because she was under contract to the studio and could have played herself, but MGM considered her too old to cast in the part despite her obviously having the look and mannerisms down perfectly otherwise.
Despite her success in film, Billie Burke eventually returned to the stage, appearing in Caesar's Wife (1919), The Intimate Strangers (1921), The Marquise (1927) and The Happy Husband (1928). But when the family's savings were wiped out in the Wall Street Crash of 1929, she took up screen acting again to aid her husband.
In 1937 Burke appeared in the first of the Topper films, about a man haunted by two socialite ghosts (played by Cary Grant and Constance Bennett), in which she played the twittering and daffy Clara Topper. Her performance as Emily Kilbourne in Merrily We Live (1938) resulted in her only Oscar nomination. In 1938 she was chosen to play Glinda the Good Witch of the North, in the musical The Wizard of Oz (1939), directed by Victor Fleming, with Judy Garland. She had worked on a Garland film, Everybody Sing, in which she played Judy's histrionically hysterical actress-mother. Another successful film series followed withFather of the Bride (1950) and Father's Little Dividend (1951), both directed by Vincente Minnelli and starring Spencer Tracy, Joan Bennett, and Elizabeth Taylor.
Burke wrote two autobiographies, both with Cameron Van Shippe, With a Feather on My Nose (Appleton 1949) and With Powder on My Nose (Coward McCann, 1959).
Radio and television
In 1932, Burke made her Hollywood comeback, starring as Margaret Fairfield in A Bill of Divorcement, directed by George Cukor. (She played Katharine Hepburn's mother in the film, which was Hepburn's debut). Despite the death of Florenz Ziegfeld during the film's production, she resumed filming shortly after his funeral.
Burke joined the cast ofEddie Cantor's radio show in 1948
On CBS Radio, The Billie Burke Show was heard on Saturday mornings from April 3, 1943 until September 21, 1946. Sponsored by Listerine, this situation comedy was initially titled Fashions in Rations during its first year. Portraying herself as a featherbrained Good Samaritan who lived "in the little white house on Sunnyview Lane," she always offered a helping hand to those in her neighborhood. She worked often in early television, appearing in the short-lived sitcom Doc Corkle (1952). She was a guest star on several TV and radio series, including Duffy's Tavern.
On television, Burke starred in her own talk show, At Home With Billie Burke, which ran on the DuMont Television Network from June 1951 through the spring of 1952. She was one of the first female talk show hosts, after the hostesses of the earlier DuMont series And Everything Nice (1949–50) and Fashions on Parade (1948–49) which both included some talk show segments.
Burke tried to make a comeback on the New York stage. She starred in two short-lived productions: This Rock and Mrs. January and Mr. X. Although she got good reviews, the plays did not. She appeared in several plays in California as well, although her mind became clouded, and she had trouble remembering lines. In the late 1950s, her failing memory led to her retirement from show business, although her explanation for that was, "Acting just wasn't any fun anymore."
Burke's last screen appearance was in Sergeant Rutledge (1960), a Western directed by John Ford.

What are the best books you've read this year?
So I read war and peace (again) (I'm such a big fucking cliche)
Some amazing books I've read so far this year though are,
1. Winter in Sokcjo / Elisa Shua Dusapin - just about getting seen by men and what it feels like to be seen and perceived by men who don't love you or value you as anything but an asset to their life. A book about being seen but not seen. It's set in South Korea and there's some very interesting themes of like the way westerners view and fetishize other cultures. There's some classic sexism themes too. It's just interesting but accessible not heavy and beautifully written. I read it in a couple hours and it was just fantastic.
2. Tristessa / Jack Kerouac classic beat novella, its short and sweet and agonising in all the usual Jack kerouac ways. But I like this one in particular because he's very self aware, almost painfully so, he knows he's an awful person and he sees his friends for what they are too and he sees the way their lives destroy the lives of others and there's this kind of rare acknowledgement of it strung through his melodic chaotic prose. I read it in 2 days listening to Brian Jonestown Massacre and it was really moody and good. You've either gotta read when it's miserable warm raining or in stifling dusty heat.
3. Lanny - Max Porter this author is stunning and incredible, this books a novella which reads like poetry, it's immersive and it has a way of sucking you in, you can almost taste and feel every word of it and its impossible not to feel invested in the plot. Max Porter is a genius and this book was just *chefs kiss*
Good Omens - Terry Pratchet, Neil Gaimen this is just genius, to be expected though right. I watched the series when it was on the other year and it was ace, so I saw the book in a charity shop the other month and obviously jumped on it. Its just witty and addictive to read, I finished it and almost immediately wanted to start it again.
Let Me Tell You What I Mean - Joan Didion
I'm just a simp for Joan let's me honest, I'm addicted to her writing and I just think u know what I get why people were hyping this so much. Its a collection of writings previously unpublished and idk, I find her so interesting and wonderful to read.
There's loads more but I just don't wanna bore you with all the classics shit I've been reading lately. I tried to pick books that u might not usually see recommended on here!! X
