being put to rest (however violently) and being pulled back into being alive has to be horrific for anyone. But because im the #1 jewish peter parker fan, i kinda want to comment on this with a bit of a jewish lens as well.

In Judaism, there isn't really a heaven/hell/etc. It's described as a type of oblivion that is as far from heaven as possible. The dead exist there without knowledge or feeling. There is a total disconnect and inability to communicate with god. I wanted to mention this because imagine the surprise of not being disconnected from god at death, but instead being forcibly man-handled into resurrection. Peter very well could have thought he'd be free of his curse once he died. Sorry pete but life has more in store for you.

In jewish tradition, it is customary for someone to be buried within 24 hours of dying. Today, this concept is translated to 'as soon as possible' and is a bit more lenient. It is the family's job to bury their dead, but if they are unable to do so it is up for the community to take up the task. There are no exceptions to the burial rule; "even criminals who have been put to death, the unclaimed slain, suicides, and strangers to the community" would be buried. It is a tradition created from compassion. "To be denied burial was the most humiliating indignity that could be inflicted on the deceased, for it meant 'to become food for beasts of prey.'" Prior to burial, it is also customary to have someone, typically family, accompany the body of the deceased out of respect, as they are seen as defenseless, and as a comfort to the soul that rests within it.

I wonder if he would have ever thought about that aspect of dying alone. Was there any kind of debate, whether it'd be worth it to die as Peter Parker, a boy with a name to his face and an aunt at home, or to die as The Spider-Man, fighting for whats right, but a stranger to everyone, alone? And what of when he wakes up again, after death, knowing he was unburied, left to rot. If that isn't a signifier of just how alone he is, I don't know what is.

There are two ways he could have been honored, i suppose. The traditional sense, through his family's and community's customs. Being laid to rest beneath the ground with others at his side. Or on the streets of the city, alone but dying for everything his family believed in. Finding solace in following in their footsteps. He gets neither, of course.

You and Noir had been dating for a while before you learned about the spinnerettes, especially if you don’t know that Noir was spiderman in the first place, then you’d have to figure that out first.

Because it’s the 30s you two aren’t able to be as open and affectionate as you may want, which most likely spills into your home life as well.

Most people just believe you are two poor guys who share an apartment, which wasn’t too unusual. Mix that with Peter being Jewish and antisemitism always being a thing, Peter needing a roommate would be even more plausible.

But because of the world you two live in, it’s difficult even being affectionate to one another when you are alone, because there’s always the fear of being caught and hurt because of it.

Maybe at some point in your relationship you two are able to move into an apartment building owned by another member of the lgbt community, where others like yourself and Peter live, allowing some of the paranoia and anxiety to leave you two.

It just means Peter has to be extra careful as spiderman, so that he wont lead the authorities to the building or somehow have the image of your community worsened by being associated with spiderman.

But living somewhere safe means you two dare being closer than before, especially if you live in an apartment where no one can see through your windows, except for maybe Peter who can climb up there.

It would lead to you two being able to be more affectionate, kissing more, holding each other, and cuddling on the couch as you watch your clunky tv play whatever was on back then, or listen to your radio playing music.

It might even cause you two to get a little bold, holding hands inside Peters pocket in public, or hooking your pinkies when no one is looking. It wouldn’t surprise me if Peter pulled you into dark alleyways or around corners to steal some kisses either.

Because you two can easier share affections now, it isn’t unusual for you two to just cuddle up on the couch holding hands, your thumb rubbing the back of his hand, or running your fingers over his knuckles.

Its when you are messing with his hands one day that you discover it, a small barely noticeable slit on his wrist. You learn later it was only visible because peters web pouches were full, as he hadn’t been out as spiderman in about a week because of injury.

You, of course, are curious. So, you immediately touch it, rubbing your thumb across it and pulling at the edges of it a bit in interest. To your surprise Peter jolts and makes a noise you rarely hear from him.

He would be extremely flustered as he covers his face with his other hand, quietly asking you to quit doing that, but he doesn’t pull his hand back to himself or anything, so of course you keep it up.

As you rub at the spinnerettes Peter would grow louder in his noises, his entire spine straightening as a whimper leaves him. Under his hand he’s biting his lip hard enough to break skin, his face completely dark from the flush that’s spreading all the way down his neck.

At some point you press hard enough on the slit that suddenly Peter seems to have had enough, lunging at you, and pinning your hands above your head as he pins you down. His hair is ruffled, and his glasses are askew, and his still chewing his lip as he looks at you with a flustered face.

You learn that night that his spinnerettes are quite sensitive, but might be just what you need to get him worked up if you need it.

Hey, I know it's a Jewish tradition to name kids after a deceased loved one to honor them, but in your opinion would a trans person naming themself after the loved one have the same effect? Not asking you to speak for all Jewish people of course, but I'm not Jewish myself and I'd love to hear your opinion on the dimension it adds to the headanon that Peter Parker is trans and picked Benjamin as a middle name for Uncle Ben

so I'd like to clarify that the a. this tradition is pretty much exclusively ashkenazi (which I am my middle name was chosen to honor three different relatives) b. it's not that it isn't meant to honor our family members, it's just that also the reason we only name our children after dead people is it was believed that if you named your child after a living person when it was the older person's time to die the angel of death might get confused and take the kid instead (which is why when my older brother was named yoseph my uncle joe asked "do you want me dead??" which is very funny but he was actually named after a different relative ofc)

anyway I don't know how I feel about peter naming himself after uncle ben so let's figure it out together lmao. peter isn't a very jewish name so it's nice for him to also have a typical jewish middle name (I feel like most jew know a ben, benjamin, binyamin, benny, etc). but also if you're going to hc peter as a trans man, he'd probably be trans already by the time ben dies, right? like it's a whole other tragedy if peter named himself after ben and then ben died like, holy shit the jewish guilt he'd get from that. did he kill his uncle by trying to honor him? or possibly he could choose that middle name after uncle ben dies, choosing to carry him with him everywhere he goes...

Peter will GRUMBLE and complain and act like he is trying to get out of it, but he honestly LOVES making challah bread. Not to mention he is DAMN GOOD at it, with the family recipe firmly memorized. (and written down in Aunt May's old cookbook.)

It was Aunt May who had gotten him into photography, and now that she has passed taking pictures is one of the ways he keeps her close with him always.

Peter has never owned a pet, never once. But oh he has wanted a pet cat ever since he was little, but Uncle Ben was allergic and then once he was an adult.. well his life was too much of a disaster to be able to take care of another living creature. He is known to take care of and feed strays though!

Though Peter's day to day meals/snacks aren't regularly kosher (he loves all food okay please no one tell his rabbi ) he does try to keep the food kosher at the big events. ( weddings, anniversaries, big holidays, funerals.)

Naps - He loves naps? Is he allowed to say that is a thing he does in his free time? Even if it isn't. It is now. Because honestly? it's true, there isn't a lot of time for naps but when he can manage to sneak on in? It's his favorite thing.

Photography - He had been in love with taking pictures every since he was a little kid and his aunt may handed him his first little disposable camera. It's one of his biggest special interests, and if you let him he will spend HOURS showing you the pictures he took.

He loves watching movies and reading, and yes that does mean he will go to other universes and watch their movies if he can get away with it because how is he suppose to pass up an opportunity to see what other universes's media is like?

ok im putting it in my drafts because comparing peter parker to moses makes me feel absolutely batshit. but if u were curious about just the torah portions themselves:

What torah portion you get depends on your birthday. I was using 2 different days because noir doesn't have a confirmed bday. I was going w him being 17, so he'd be born in 1916. August 10th is a common peter birthday because that was his first comic appearance. Noir's first comic appearance was December 17th, so I through that one in too.

If he was born Aug 10, 1916, his torah portion would be the Vaetchanan.

How does Ex Machina further develop ideas in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein?

COMMENTARY:
