Please tell me more about how you view Jeri!! I know you’ve talked a bit about her before, but I’d love to know more!!
Oh fuck oh shit oh sweet jesus-
Oh dear god Storm my dear friend you already *know* how I am about Jeri but I'll lay it all out here as well, and I'm collecting stuff from my Campfire Confession Document as well as stuff I've thrown into the BRP discord server.
I will add a disclaimer that I headcanon Jeri as a queer woman, so if that isn't your thing, that's perfectly okay! I will also discuss themes of trauma, abuse, and sexual themes.
NOW HERE WE GO:
Let's talk about themes.
Jeri is a character who only shows up in one Nightmare Time 2 episode, but we can glean a pretty good amount of stuff regarding her character and season that with a healthy dose of headcanon!
Jeri’s main theme is suppression.
That much is evident, she’s hiding the fact that she had premarital sex and a child out of wedlock, something that goes directly against what her church wants. She’s held onto this secret for several years, and, seeing as Lumberaxe/Lil Jerrie is roughly 20, decades.
Her actions in Abstinence Camp also get stopped, be it calling for the police and Boy Jerry stopping her, or her being talked over/ talked for. Jeri doesn't really get to speak for herself, not until she's alone with Grace after having chased her down in the woods. Jeri is a follower, not a leader, when she is around Boy Jerry. She gets little bits and pieces to provide input, but other than that she's pushed aside by Boy Jerry. She doesn't get to speak her mind without judgement!
Therefore, Jeri is afraid.
Jeri’s secondary theme is anxiety.
No seriously, look at her. When faced with the possibility of Steph being pregnant, Jeri starts to spiral and project her own fears onto her.
This isn't to say that she's purely anxious, but that anxiety and fear are a huge motivator for her and the actions she takes. She goes along with whatever Boy Jerry says because he pokes at her insecurities with having a child out of wedlock, for having sex in the first place, etc.
Let's consider where Jeri comes from.
There's not a lot that canonically mentioned in Abstinence Camp, but it's enough to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Jeri presents the idea of teen pregnancy to Steph in a way that very much feels like she speaks from experience. We can glean from this that Jeri herself was disowned by her family for having premarital sex and getting pregnant. She's most likely from the same church as the Chasitys, so it's possible that she was raised similarly to Grace or even how Mark and Karen were as kids. In this sense, Jeri's family and church were her main pillars of support, and by getting pregnant when she was younger she lost one of those pillars.
Jeri is someone who is very much a person of trauma. With the way she was raised, she was taught to believe a skewed sense of purity, and with being disowned by those who should love and care for her, and that event weighing on her mind so much to project onto Steph? She has trauma.
Particularly about sex, and probably has a more than healthy dose of fear and anxiety surrounding it, desire, and how she is perceived as a woman. She had a child out of wedlock, was not prepared for it at all, and grapples with the shame of it by leaning on her religion and doing her best to teach other how not to be like her. How not to fall to temptation and sin. She thinks of herself as a shameful, filthy creature, because of how she had sex and got pregnant. To Jeri, she had succumbed to a desire she should have been stronger to refuse, and that to her is one of her greatest shames and secrets.
She feels shame toward herself and her more carnal desires because in her eyes she messed up, and doesn't want to make that same mistake again. Getting pregnant was considered her fault, and that sentiment is shared by Boy Jerry, and possibly her family. Not to mention, that Boy Jerry seems to use her guilt over this as a way to keep her on a short leash and control her, whilst denying any part he's taken in it unless it's useful to him somehow.
This is where I come out and say I'm not the biggest fan of Boy Jerry, haha!
Let's talk about gender and how Jeri's called Girl Jeri.
In our modern day society gender is a hot topic. Be it from gender roles, which are still reinforced to this day, to the ways we transcend from such restrictions. In a setting such as an abstinence camp, campers are segregated by a binary gender system, and as such so are the counselors.
Boys and Girls. Boy Jerry and Girl Jeri. Sure, the nicknames are to maintain a fun and friendly atmosphere for the campers, but I argue that this could also be used to maintain the status quo narrative that Boy Jerry set for both himself and Jeri. They're just fun, quirky, camp directors, nothing weird here! They tell the campers at the start of camp that they can use the nicknames too, but even when both Boy Jerry and Jeri are alone together, they call each other by those nicknames, almost like a reminder to not spill the beans.
We can see in the NMT2 episode that Jerry, while unhinged when under pressure, is methodical albeit frustrated when he finds the dead bodies of the campers. He's exasperated, whereas when Jeri comes across Gabe's dead body, she is shocked and immediately is taken aback. This could be evidence enough that Jerry was the one to present the idea of burying the bodies? But they do come out of the trees together with shovels, so this could just be me picking at straws.
Let's talk about gender roles though. In these religious settings it's not uncommon for the people in it to look toward the idea of man and woman, where the man brings home the bread and the woman looks after the house. We could argue that Jeri does more to maintain the illusion of nothing wrong ever happening at the camp, but that this was Boy Jerry's idea all along. In the NMT2 episode there's a scene where Jerry tells Jeri this line:
"I don't think you've thought this through, Girl Jeri. [...] No, they're gonna poke around. And they're gonna find everything. You ready for that? For the whole town to know what you did, dirty girl?"
Like I've mentioned before, Boy Jerry blames Jeri for getting pregnant with Lil Jerrie. This type of sentiment isn't uncommon, blaming a woman for getting pregnant while not bothering to put any of that blame on the man who impregnated her. In the scene with the quote Boy Jerry is using their shared beliefs to control Jeri and maintain their status quo, keeping her under his grasp to keep himself above her. I bring all of this up because I see her being called Girl Jeri as an extension of that want for control. Hell, it could be even worse. Jerry calling himself Boy Jerry to soften his own actions, whilst calling Jeri, Girl Jeri to belittle her. If Lil Jerrie is around 20, the Jerries are possibly around their 40s.
Jeri's a grown woman. She's a grown woman being called a girl, being treated like a girl, do I have to explain how that can be insulting? I don't think so. We can see from how Boy Jerry talks to her that he calls the shots, and he wants her to listen to him and not put up a fight on how he wants things done. I'm sure there's a part of him that does care about Jeri on some level, but when it comes to the potential of people finding out about Lil Jerrie/Lumberaxe, about the number of dead kids on their hands? He's going to strong arm Jeri into doing what he wants. Jeri is a doormat to Boy Jerry, and he will stomp on her to clean his own boots.
So who is Jeri?
Jeri is traumatized. She is belittled and talked down to. She is forced into a skewed sense of what it means to be a woman, and she is stifled by it. Jeri is a victim, a murder accomplice, a camp director, and a mother. She is fearful, and puts up a front of cheeriness for the sake of the campers she looks after. She carries so much love in her heart for these kids, and she wants to teach them and guide them and impart as much good as she can into each summer at camp. She is scared, because she knows what will happen if any of them "fall from grace" like she did years ago. Jeri looks at each dead camper like a version of herself, and she cannot handle the guilt that comes with each shovelful of dirt she lays over their bodies. And worst of all?
She thinks it's all her fault.

“In the first year [of Star Trek: Voyager] I talked with [executive producer] Jeri Taylor about directing,” Roxann Dawson recalls her own route to the director's chair. “I had directed in the theater and I just liked bossing people around! I wanted to give it a try but I honestly didn't know if I'd like it. I told Jeri I'd love to learn, if they'd give me the opportunity. Then she and Rick Berman opened up Director in Training.” Over the course of seven seasons, [Robert Duncan] McNeill and Dawson, along with fellow VOYAGER cast members Tim Russ and Robert Picardo all helmed at least one episode of the show as directors. The process of swapping Starfleet uniform for megaphone involved going back to school. “We had DiT school,” explains prolific VOYAGER director David Livingston. “‘Director in Training,’ where Rick Berman would allow actors and crew to go through a training program, observing as much of production and post-production as their schedules would allow, showing a commitment to study. Even though I went to film school, I had never directed on a large scale until I got to STAR TREK. Rick offered me that opportunity.”
[...]
“I became a Director in Training and I could go into everything,” adds Dawson. "I observed other shows that were shooting at Paramount. I did so much observing, I would be on an all-nighter downtown in Los Angeles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then come into work on VOYAGER at 4am so I could take a nap. I learned a lot and put myself out there.” “Roxann would come and sit with me in the editing room,” remembers Livingston. “She was very observant, asked a lot of questions and it was clear she knew exactly what was going on. Roxann recognized that she needed to go through the process to be grounded, not only in the aesthetics of how to do this, but the technical aspects of it. I respected and admired her for that.” While directing his first episode of VOYAGER during season 6, John Bruno remembers Dawson's observant approach to DiT school: “I had one day on set in the conference room when I was shooting two overlapping cameras. Roxann was standing beside me, looking over my shoulder at my storyboards. I explained what I was doing, and then I realized she was going to direct a show. She was following me, and I didn't really know what I was doing!”
[...]
“The reason I started directing later [in the course of the show] is because I was pregnant and we waited until after I gave birth in order for me to start,” says Dawson, whose first directing assignment was the early season 6 episode ‘Riddles’. “How prepared can you be for something you've never done before? You can prepare and prepare and prepare, but if it's an experience you've never had before, for somebody who really likes to be prepared, it's torture. There are a million scenarios that you'll be facing, things that you couldn't possibly have prepared for because you had no idea and no experience. It's learning to deal with all that with grace under pressure.”
[...]
“You're with people that you love and want you to succeed,” Dawson says of the support she received from her fellow VOYAGER ensemble. “It made me a better actor. I began to understand that I'm not just dealing with this part of the pie, but the entire pie. All of a sudden there were so many moving parts of which I was this much a part of. Often, actors need to be myopic, they need to concentrate on what they're doing and I respect that. But as a director, I've come to respect and understand those insecurities, understand that actors need to do that in order to show up and do the job. But at the same time, I've had payback. I've been on the other side, I've paid my dues in terms of actors doing things that have cost me time and money and face. On every level! I've had payback because in the beginning I was one of those actors who judged every director that came in.”
[...]
“After the first time I directed, I was in so much physical pain, there was so much pressure I didn't know if I wanted to continue with it,” Dawson honestly recalls the aftermath of directing ‘Riddles’. “That was a learning experience. I would call my husband after the first few episodes I did and let him know if it was a two Advil day or a six Advil day. I literally was in physical pain!”
[...]
“After I did my first episode,” remembers Dawson, “Rick Berman came up to me at the wrap party for that season and said he liked ‘Riddles’. ‘So I'm going to give you another opportunity to fail.’ It was the oddest wording, I will never, ever forget that!” Dawson subsequently directed ‘Workforce, Part II’ during season 7, and has since become a highly sought-after director on some of modern television's biggest shows. “I just fell in love with it,” Dawson say[s], looking back. “It was trial by fire, especially moving out of this STAR TREK world into the rest of the world that didn't care whether you succeeded or not. Now it's a complete and utter joy. I love directing and I have loved it for a long time. I'm so glad and so grateful to Rick Berman and Jeri Taylor, who gave me this opportunity and literally changed my life.”

Raffi Muskier and Christine Chapel for the ask meme
from this ask game!
Raffi Musiker:
How I feel about this character
i love her so dearly. in a franchise like Star Trek where almost all characters were deliberately made as paragons of human goodness, it's refreshing and fun to have a character who's so flawed and troubled but still embodies the very Star Trek ideal of trying to be better. solidly in the top 10 Star Trek characters for me.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Seven!!! Seven/Raffi is definitely my biggest Star Trek ship right now. i love how messy and troubled they are and how their lives & relationships to family sort of parallel each other. they're both driven to loneliness and insecurity in different ways. they both care very deeply but are too focused on careers and do gooding to form solid relationships. also Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan have great chemistry together.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
i really do love her and Rios together. they have such a fun bickering sibling like dynamic. i also do love all of her scenes with Picard because they're such unlikely friends and Raffi might hold a grudge against him (for good reason) but the softer moments they get together are excellent.
My unpopular opinion about this character
hmm, i think with pretty much all characters in fandom, there's a tendency to flatten out characteristics that are undesirable or less fun to write or whatever but that's a large part of why i like Raffi. she constantly struggles with low self-esteem, she manipulates people, she is so hyperfocused on being right and uncovering conspiracies that she forgets how to care about others. all of that is so interesting to write about and i don't think many people cash in on it.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
the biggest fault of Star Trek Picard is that it's, as the title implies, a show focused on Picard when every other character is much more interesting to me, especially Raffi. and i while i don't dislike the direction her character went after s1, i just wish we could have seen it in a coherent arc instead of jumping from s1 to s2 to s3 without much linking material. i'll fill it in with fanfic but... i'd just love to see more of her.
Christine Chapel:
(note – i don't have many opinions on TOS!Chapel so i'll answer this for SNW!Chapel)
How I feel about this character
i'll be honest that i have kind of mixed feelings on Chapel. there are parts of her character that are definitely interesting to me, namely – her being very career-oriented and her experience with ptsd during the Klingon War (and the grey morality all around in Under the Cloak of War). however, some of her dialogue and whatnot feels a bit too... MCU girlboss for my tastes.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
i don't really have any ships for Chapel but i did see someone raise the possibility of Chapel/T'Pring earlier today which has me interested. i'm not convinced but i'm listening.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
her and M'Benga being ptsd war buddies is very important to me.
My unpopular opinion about this character
i feel like i don't hang around the SNW fandom enough to know what the popular and unpopular opinions are but honestly if we're already going in with the Spock/Chapel romance let's just go full ship-wide soap opera with it. i don't really know if it was a good story arc to go with but as long as we're here we might as well have fun with it.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
ooh – i actually think they should have made SNW!Chapel into an original character instead of trying to fit her into the shadow of TOS. like i think that would actually free the show up to do more interesting things with her instead of being beheld to us knowing that she'll be on the Enterprise for the foreseeable future (and retroactively making some Weird Dynamics in TOS knowing that her and Spock are exs).
thanks so much for the ask!!! this was fun <3

J7 for the ship meme?
Don't Ship It
Why don't you ship it?
Kate Mulgrew has chemistry with absolutely everyone and I shipped Janeway with absolutely everyone (I had a geocities page dedicated to shipping Janeway). So on that level, I do ship it, and I certainly shipped it back when the show was on and I was heavily involved in the fandom.
When Voyager was airing I was about ten years younger than Jeri Ryan and like Seven, I sort of skipped over adolescence due to a traumatic childhood, so I considered myself an adult. But right after Voyager ended my childhood trauma caught up with me. I had a breakdown, and years of therapy. And when I came back to Voyager, and interrogated my (over?)identification with Seven of Nine from that perspective, I no longer found a romantic relationship between Seven and Janeway interesting. I want their mentor/protégé relationship to be uncomplicated by sexual tension, which is actually odd for me. I think Seven had a crush on Janeway and I think Janeway flirts with her entire crew, but I don't want it to progress past that.
What would have made you like it?
I list my favorite relationship tropes here and it includes:
Lopsided Balance of Power: ships in which one member of the ship is in a position of power over the other (most often Powerful Woman/Infatuated Subordinate)
Clearly, Janeway/Seven fits this trope. But I prefer the Janeway/Paris dynamic. Seven isn't cocky enough, instead she's confident. She looks up to Janeway, but she's not insecure. I guess it's not lopsided (i.e. unhealthy) enough for me.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
My reasons for not shipping it are entirely personal. I don't have anything negative to say.
Ask about another ship

Culture Clash.
Cw: mentions of trauma, very superficial. age gap between ryad n I.
Summary: Ryad's (Jackal) First meeting with Jerico(Tarantula)..
A/n: Canon for now. Not sure if I'll stick with it. Only mutuals allowed to reblog.
Tumblr media
Harry had brought the New operator,Tarantula,to meet with the spanish and latin operators so she felt More at home. Ryad wasnt sure what he was expecting, but he knew she was young, that she hasnt seen combat,She was a recon operator.
His eyes widened a little,he pursed his lips and felt his throat dry out. Out of the corner of his eyes he sees Mira smile welcomingly at the New operator before them.
--Everyone,This Is Tarantula. --Harry gestured at the young girl before them. She had heart- shaped face,greyish-green eyes with gold and brown hair tied up in a bun. The back of her neck Is shaven, and she had a myriad of bead and woven bracelets on her left wrist, alongside a black circlet earring on her right earlobe. She wears a mix of military clothes with a ripped up jacket that reads more as punk than army.
Her eyes look a little puffy, deep eyebags on the underside of her lids. Ryad cant help but relate to the lack of sleep. He thinks it adds to her charm and Beauty.
--My Name's Jerico. But please just call me Jeri,I hate being called by my full name--She said in spanish, her Argentine accent clear in their voice. So thats why Harry was so adamant...
--hey! Whats up!--Flores said with a grin, giving a cheek kiss to Tarantula as Argentines often did--Welcome! What part of Argentina are you from?
--Buenos Aires!
--Me too! What part?
Already its obvious those two are two peas in a pot. The rest introduce themselves and when it comed to his turn, Ryad feels extremely awkward. He smiles nervously and offers his hand.
--My name's ryad. Callsign is Jackal--He said, his heart fluttering as her hand meets his and shakes it--Welcome.
Jer smiles sheepishly, shes been a bit nervous. Its only natural, too much people already. --thanks...I have to say ryads a really pretty name. Never heard it before.
He chuckled, feeling a little bashful--thanks. Jerico is a pretty name too.
--I chose it! -- now she seems genuienly insecure and worried.
--Youve got good taste,then-- Jackal flirts with her before hes able to realize what hes done. It dawns on him as soon as hes done talking, and out of the corner of his eyes mira is holding back a grin. Oh god.
--Im sure you'll all get along swimmingly--Harry seems very amused. Especially as Jer looks at the floor and whispers "gracias"-- Ill leave you all to chat. Welcome to rainbow Miss castro.
Jer nodded,still bashful-- Thank you,Harry.
--Of course.
The Group leads the New operator to the cafeteria to Grab lunch and chat. Jerico began to talk about herself, and Ryad listens attentively. He asks a few questions when She tells everyone that shes the eldest of four.
And ever so slowly,he takes her whole attention. Flores fights him for it, and Mira is so amused. Jerico leaves to Grab a bottle of coke from the serving area, and mira says
--Estas coladisimo por la chavala...--Elena teased, gently elbowing him in the ribs. (Youre so smitten for this girl)
--Deja de decís gilipolleses..-- Ryad grumbled, looking at his Plate and playing with his food--Es majisima. No puedo ser el único que piensa eso...--he looked at his fellow spanish speakers for help.
(stop saying dumb things. Shes very charismatic,I cant be the only one who thinks so!)
Flores snorted-- hermano,le estas tirando los galgos hace una hora.. déjate de joder. Estas clavadisimo por la piba...(Bro,cmon. Youve been flirting with her for an hour. Stop playing dumb, youre smitten).
--Que no....(no)
--que si,tío.--Elena insisted-- coño,que si quieres salir con ella tienes mi apoyo. Yo diría que es mutuo... (yeah dude. Shit,if you want to go out with her, youve got my support. Id say she feels the same).
--mira,Boludo,te estaba mirando como que sos el chabon más lindo de toda Grecia. Anda, pedile de salir... (look, dude, she was looking at you like youre the prettiest guy in all of greece. Go,ask her out.)
Jackals about to say something, but Jerico comes back looking tired.-- Hey,I changed my mind..i'd like to go to my room and rest.. The exhaustion after eating kicked in.
Flores got this look like hes up to something--Id love to help you get to your room but Mira and Solis here are taking me to the r&d labs to test out a few things on my gadget. Capitao and Caveira have training to do...And..--The Group sees Goyo and Amaru enter the cafeteria-- Azu and Cesar are just getting to eat so..Ryad? Mind doing a solid for the New guy?
Ryad gives the Argentine Man his best glare. He doesnt let the girl see it, though, if she thinks shes being an annoyance to him...he might just end up losing it.
--not at all,no-- he answered, turning to Jerico.
--No rush though!! Please finish eating first...-- she takes a Seat where she previously was and conversation returns.
Eventually, the lunch time is over and Jackal begins to walk tarantula to the quarters area. Shes pleaseant company, and he can see how slowly she begins to warm up to him and relax.  As they walk she takes off the jacket she was wearing, revealing a sports top underneath.
He sees now that on her right bicep theres a tattoo of a rhinoceros beetle resting on a Ceibo flower- The National flower of Argentina, being highlighted by these beautiful curling letters with dramatic lines, its highly decorated and maximalist. He recognized the style of the lettering as Fileteado Porteño, a beautiful thing really. The text read "La fuerza de Argentina está caminando a mi lado" (the strength of Argentina is walking by my side).
He sees that on her left forearm theres a tattoo of a tarantula. Beautiful with elegant lines that denote Power and dangerous beauty.
--Thats a really nice pair of tattoos youve got-- Ryad commented, both were waiting on a pair of humveees to drive by them since they were almost to the quarters area-- Arent they a little counterintutive, since youre recon and all..
Jer shrugged with a sheepish smile, clearly not the first time this has been pointed out--theres ways to cover them up. Make up and all that.
He chuckled--Good Point. Whats the meaning behind them? I figure the tarantula one is because of your callsign and what youve told us about the context behind it,Why the beetle though?
She begins to tell him about the symbolism behind it, how they represent rebirth and strength, things shes experienced and felt because of her life. He really likes how with her theres always a reason for everything, even of sometimes its just because "she liked it" or "felt like it"
Ryad listens attentively, surprised pleseantly at the level of maturity she carried. It doesnt feel like shes talking with someone who just Turned twenty.
Calm, thats what she made him feel. A sense that hes been seen and understood. Shes warm and friendly, kind and funny...its Like the sun is shining upon him for the first time in years. Like everything would be alright.
Its odd to feel so smitten. Hes experienced love before but he is starting to believe that hes never met anyone like Jerico before... And he realizes he just wants more of them.
The very Next day he begins to try and befriend Tarantula. He does feel guilty for being so much older than her and flirt with her,but she takes it well- And though shes bashful(seeing as shes never had this level of attention directed towards her) she tries to return It. Jeri seems unsure of how,but she managed to confirm shes into him too.
Being a scarred Man as he is,it does takes him months to ask her out. He does try to show his interest as often as hes comfortable with, and he is aware that Jerico trusts him. She feels so comfortable and its something you can actually see.
Her eyes are calm, shes smiling and in a good mood. She doesnt apologize when her excitement overcomes her, when her voice rises and she gets quite energetic. She had expressed a certain insecurity about her but its just a visceral show of joy,how could he not like it? He needed something- someone like that.
Ryad shows through his actions that he can be trusted, and he begins to realize now of the privilege thats being bestowed upon him. Not only the normal show of trust, but the genuine surrender of barriers and protection.
Jerico was an Open book about her trauma, only going into detail when she felt comfortable. And she did that a lot with him,and in turn he told her a few things of his upbringing. When he kind of low key made it clear about Faisal's passing,he got the biggest bear hug ever and the gentlest "Im so sorry..." it almost made him cry.
Hes never felt so understood in his life. He saw the effort she put into understanding him,and she was patient...so very patient and loving with him.
Finally, after a few good months into knowing her, he asked her out. Its not like she didnt drop hints that she wanted him to take her out, and hes taken note of everything shes said in those clues for the perfect date. Hes thorough, professional and most of all a gentleman.
Ryad approaches Jerico after training one rainy, cozy afternoon. He calls her over and says.
--Oye,estuve pensando...y viendo como esta el dia se me ocurrió que podríamos ir a tomar un café juntos. Yo invito. (Hey,ive been thinking and seeing how the weather is today..I thought we could go out to Grab coffee, my treat)
Her face is priceless. Her eyes widen and she takes a hot second to realize what he said. But when it clicks she nodds all shy. She hasnt prepared for this at all.
--Asi casual,No? (Like...casual?)
The Man shook his head-- Quiero invitarte a salir,si estas cómoda con ello. (I want to ask you out on a date, if youre comfortable with it)
--Ah...-- she said, obviously aware of what he meant since the first time he said it..but just confirming-- Dale. Si, de una. Nos bañamos y eh...vamos? .(ah,yeah. Of course. We showe and go?)
--Vale. --He smiled, using his years of experience to flash a flirty smile her way which has her swooning without feeling out of control. (Alright)
She had talked about how when shes overwhelmed with flirting it makes her really nervous and insecure.
Both were deeply damaged people, but together they seem to melt and fill the cracks caused by hurt and past tauma.
--Cool...Cool. ehm..permiso-- She walks past him all afluster and goes to get her things. Before she leaves she smiles briefly at him,her face Burning. Then, she leaves. (Cool, cool. Uhm..excuse me)
Ryad would leave soon after, giving her some time and space for herself so she didnt get nervous or feel like shes forced to make conversation.
Eventually when he goes to pick her up at her room,he offers his arm and with his words he helps her calm down. He makes an off coment of how its nice that she doesnt hide her interest in him, that he really likes it and makes him feel calm.
That makes her fully relax and return to her usual self.
Needless to say, both would be coming back from town with the desire for a second date, and defenetly a third...and a fourth...and a fifth..

Listen, I don't hate him either. In fact, during some of my male Shepard playthroughs, I saved him, because I enjoyed their flirting in ME3. But boy, is he a generic noodle.
I don't care which one of the two players save. That's their prerogative.
But. But.
Unfortunately, this "Ashley sucks" trend isn't TikTok specific.
Male fanboys on Reddit and people of all genders on here have been viciously hating on her since the games came out.
She's far from my favorite character in the trilogy, but the fandom's sexist treatment of her has made me turn the chair and defend her more than once over the years.
Unsurprisingly enough, there's an overlap between individuals who still call Ashley "the space racist" and those who hate Miranda (due to her being a "Cerberus bitch," never mind that she flips TIM off, never mind that she tries to bring the organization down herself) and slutshame her.
As if it's the character's fault she was designed for the male fans thus that stupid catsuit (also see: Seven of Nine on "Voyager," Jeri Ryan couldn't breathe in that shit) and those equally stupid shots of her ass. Remember when the fanboys threw a fit because those shots were removed from the "Legendary Edition"?
By the way, the creators quite literally told Yvonne Strahovski (a natural blonde that dyes her hair) that Miranda was gonna have black hair, because she was "supposed to be a femme fatale."
(Never mind that the character is more than a caricature; that she's amongst the most sensitive and insecure ME characters when you let Shepard know her.)
And they, of course, ignored that as gorgeous as the actress is, she doesn't have balloon breasts and ass.
But back to Ashley.
"She's xenophobic."
She does make some rather unfortunate comments, it has to be said, but people throw things out of proportion, because Ashley dares to be outspoken; a female character that doesn't suck Shepard's dick/vagina and challenges them. (She's one of the few squadmates that does this in all of the games, which I personally find refreshing. The blind hero worship makes me roll my eyes at times.)
When renegade Shepard says to an Hanar, "Because you're a big stupid jellyfish!" then everyone laughs. That's not xenophobic, that's badass and true.
When Wrex and Mordin (the fandom faves, my faves) say very, very xenophobic shit, then that's fine and dandy.
When Garrus, the ex cop, does it? The same.
Oh, the double standards of it all.
People love taking Ashley's lines out of context and/or before she gets her own character development.
"That bitch shot Wrex on Virmire."
Meanwhile, that's 100% on the player. Is it the character's fault that you didn't do Wrex's side mission and don't have enough paragon/renegade points to make him stand down?
In that case, Ashley does her job, i.e., protecting her Commander from an enraged Krogan with a gun, when Shepard doesn't pull the trigger themselves.
Also, notice how ME1 Ashley is one of the few characters--if not the only one other than Shepard, I'll have to refresh my memory--that doesn't dehumanize Wrex; she calls him by his name instead of "the Krogan."
"That bitch trash talks Shepard on Horizon."
Oh, you mean when she expresses her doubts about the human terrorist organization (that she righteously hates) bringing back a dead Shepard back to life? When Miranda herself tells Shepard that she wanted to use a chip to control them?
Wow, how evil of Ash to question why her cyborg of a Commander all of a sudden aligns with the cartoonishly evil organization that uses refugees to create Reaper abominations (third game).
Kaidan does the exact same thing on Horizon btw. His call out comes off as milder because he has a different personality.
The way I have to make sure I don’t get on Mass Effect tiktok because they ALWAYS end up hating on Ashley is so annoying. I swear people played the og Mass Effect once, killed Ashley during that play through and just never thought about her again besides miss remembering her comments.
How many times do I have to say it people. ‘I can’t tell the Aliens from the animals’ is triggered by being around Keepers. In universe there is a on going conversation about what the hell the keepers even are so while her comment is in poor taste she isn’t talking about any sentient being.
The ‘Bear Vs Dog’ monologue is a metaphor where humans are the dogs and the person is the Council. Her point is that the council would throw humans under the bus in a heartbeat and Oh, come ME3 she is completely right.
If you bring her along to the conversation with the terra firma guy she makes it extremely clear that she doesn’t like them in anyway, even before she gets character development. She the hates her grandfather being used by them and strongly opposes them uses his history to promote their racist messages.
ALL the teammates in the og Mass Effect said dumb shit. Garrus in particular makes some shity comments. Because a group of random wildly different characters that start off distrusting each other but grow to love one another like family is a huge part of all the games.
But oh, Ashley is a woman so she gets to die while the boring soft boy gets to live.

Daredevil Masterlist
Tumblr media
Jesus sweet Christ. She was back. Long black hair, Hot as the ninth level of hell, knows how to kick ass, clever, rich. Not a lot to compete with there, you supposed, she’s just… hotter? It just… didn’t make sense to you, if Matt had access to all… that. Why in the name of all hell was he choosing to date an obnoxious, mouthy, poor, accident prone lawyer with no notable features to mention. It made exactly no sense. You weren’t that serious you supposed, you sort of dated, three real dates, patching a lot of bruises, snuggles on couches, you supposed that you were considered his girlfriend. Maybe not though, I mean Jesus, she is both named and dressed like a mortal combat character. On a good day all you could compare yourself to was someone from street fighter two. How were you to compete? Someone was clearly winning here, and you didn’t feel like it was you.
They had totally fucked too. The body language, the smiles, the communication? They knew each others bodies. No denying chemistry. You were confused about all your feelings too. Was this jealousy? No, it felt more like… resignation? Like okay, hot boyfriend has a super, SUPER hot ex, there’s very obviously some unrequited feeling, you are a worm and they’re bald eagles. Eagles don’t date worms, they consume them then fly off to their hotter eagle-y girlfriends and sometimes maybe reminisce about how good the worm was, before remembering how much cooler their girlfriend was. God, this sucked. But, then again, you remembered them dating in college, and she made Matt miserable for a time. You remembered stories from college, you remembered how long putting Matt back together took for you and Foggy. You remembered how hard he fought being loved. Remembered his belief that he was a terrible person. Remembered the long road back to happiness. Surely, you thought, surely there was no love lost there. She just needed his help, Daredevil’s help. They didn’t want each other. They were like oil and water. It would be fine. You decided to give Matt the benefit of the doubt.
You two worked and acted as if nothing was wrong. However, while for you it was an act, for Matt, he saw it as a sign that he could lean in on what he was trying to accomplish with Elektra. It was taking its toll, but Matt was yet to notice. It was horrible, you felt miserable, and you had no other choice but to simply wait it out. You knew he would make the right choice eventually, but when?
Sometime in the middle of this you’re approached by Jeri Hogarth. It’s a good offer, smart, pays good, right in your wheelhouse, and with a shining endorsement from Jessica Jones. (Or as shining anything Jessica says can get.) It seems tempting, but you don’t accept. You can’t, not when you Foggy, and Matt have built so much. Then he doesn’t show to court.
“Mathew! You can’t just bail on this case! There’s no way we can do it if you’re not-“
“We’re sorry, you’ve run out of time.”
“Damn it!” You slammed your phone down and continued to pace, waiting for Matt but he never showed. You knew about the Roxxon Gala, but with him putting all of your necks on the line for Frank fucking castle, you expected him to show. Not only that, but he’s bailed on dates, she’s staying in his apartment, she looks at you like you’re garbage and Matt just… lets her. Jeri’s offer weighs. It gets more attractive by the hour.
“I’m here!” He cries, finally bursting through the first set of doors, you usher him in, and witness the whispered argument between him and Foggy and don’t really think much of it. One time mistake, he will do better, besides, we’re saving the world here.
Things keep spiraling though, and you’re having to do friendship triage. You have to take the brunt of his and Foggy’s headbutting. It’s obnoxious, when you built this practice, you did it to make your lives better, not ruin your friendships. It’s weighing on you. Matt can tell, and the guilt he feels is unmatched. He just can’t stop. This feels too big too… important. Then one ninja battle too far puts you over the edge.
“Matt! Are you here? We need your he-“ there she is. In his bed. In your clothing. “Oh.” Your voice comes out strained and small. Matt has never heard it that quiet. That defeated.
“Honey it’s not-“ but he doesn’t get that far. Your whole body just… deflates. He can hear the silent tears, feels the shuddering. You’re done. This was the last straw. He can tangibly feel you slipping through his fingers, hears the shatter of your heart and that’s when he knows he’s been a fool. “Oh. Oh my love.” He coos, reached for you, desperate to put back all that he’s broken, trying to stop the sand spilling out the hour glass. You flinch away. His whole heart shatters. Breaks to a million pieces and falls there at your feet.
“Matt I-“ you shrug, a mirthless laugh shudders through your tears. “I don’t even know what to say here.” He drops his head and nodded, properly scolded.
“No. I- I don’t blame you.” He nods, gesturing towards the bedroom. “She was stabbed, it was poison- I… It’s not about that though. I know.”
“Do you?” You sniffle. “I don’t think you do. Matt I-“ You sighed and gathered your things. “I had to help put you back together with my own two hands Matthew, she ruined you, and you’re letting her do it again. I don’t even recognize you anymore. That’s sad Matt, because I was just starting to love you. I’m… I’m done.”
Then, you were gone. Your letter of resignation was on their desks promptly by 7 am, you accepted the job with Jeri Hogarth, and that was it. Matt fucked it all up. He kept fighting, but there, all day every day was this immense pain. He has lost You. You, the woman who every day smiled at him, and made him a coffee, and joked about his night life, you who never once required him to give up a part of himself to save your friendship, you, who had loved him. Loved him completely. He’d lost it all. Then, he lost some more. Frank castle had disappeared, and they had lost the case. Foggy and Karen left, Elektra died. He was all alone.
Then like the warm sun after a long winter, you came. It was the day of Elektra’s funeral.
“You’ve gotta let ‘em all go Matty. It’s time. I’ve told you, over and over, going have to let go of your emotional ties. You’re weak with them.” Stick shrugged, “without them, you could accomplish so much more.”
Matt chuckled bitterly, “No. You’ve taken too much from me already, but you won’t take my heart. Elektra is dead, we defeated the hand for now, but I never would have even thought it was worth it if it weren’t for them. For Elektra, Karen, Foggy. They are worth it. My love for them is worth it.” He shook his head, and tears welled in his eyes. “Y/N was worth it too, and you took that from me, you and Elektra and your little games. You took it from me, and Y/N may hate me. God! I hope she does hate me! She was the one good thing I had Stick, she put back together all those little shattered bits, and built me back into the man I am today. Then, I repay her with this.” He gestures to Elektra’s grave, to the city at large, to himself. “She was beautiful, and kind, and perfect. She made me happy. She made me want to keep fighting for this stupid city, and now Elektra is dead, you’re still here ruining my life, and Y/N hates me. Even with all that, it was worth it. Because if for one second, she is safer than she was before I made this sacrifice. Then fighting to the death, for this city, for her, is worth it. I love her Stick, that’s the only thing that keeps me going. I love her, and now she’s safe. Safe from the hand, safe from Frank Castle, and she’s safe from me. Knowing that Y/N has a chance to flourish and grow, that’s what makes all this fighting, this pain, the devil. It makes it all worth while. If I give that up, what is it all for?” Then he sat in silence, and stick went away.
At first, sitting there at Elektra’s grave, he thought the smell of your perfume was a hallucination. Another stray temptation, another ghost of a memory come to haunt him. He treasured it though, even the idea of you was a beautiful thing. He embraced the memory, though it was painful. Then he was enveloped on it, the smell surrounded h, then he realized he was no longer alone. He froze. Then his senses started to catch up to his reeling mind. The smell, the faint taste of the sweat of your brow in the breeze, the sound of your breath. You were there. You were there, sitting and staring at Elektra’s grave, holding flowers. Then you reached out a hand, and stroked his cheek. He pushed his face into your palm, starving for your touch. He whimpered, the tears he was holding finally let loose. Then you were speaking.
“I don’t hate you Matt. I couldn’t if I tried.” You sighed and bundled him to you. Placing the flowers on the bench and holding him as he cried. You had heard everything.
“I never got the chance to tell you.” He cried, “you were gone- I let you go. But I never told you.” His sobs wracked his body, and you ached with their severity.
“Tell me what Matty?” You shushed, drying tears and attempting to coax him to an answer.
“I never told you I loved you.” He sighed and clutched your face in his hands. “It’s you, it’s always gonna be you. I love you, I love your humor, your laugh, your smell, the touch of your hands can cure my every wound. It’s always been you. I was just too stupid to see you slipping away. I never wanted to loose you. You’re my everything, I just never said anything because- because you deserve so much better than me. I’m so sorry.”
“Oh Matthew,” you began to cry as well, “My sweet, imbecilic devil man. You always deserved me, every day you throw your life on the line for us, for this city. I always thought you deserved me, and I deserve you. I didn’t see that at first, and I should have fought for it. I left you when you needed me, and I’ll never forgive myself”
“No!” He cried, pressing your foreheads together frantically. “You will never take the blame for this. I was wrong you deserved the best of me, and I didn’t give it. I gave up? I was a fool.”
You laughed and nuzzled your noses closer. “Then let’s call it a draw and say we were both foolish. We can be fools together. We deserve each other.”

Star Wars AU → Jessica Jones  🥃 📁
Ben Solo (Jessica Jones)
Ben Solo is a private investigator in New York City. He works for himself unless he’s accepting side cases for extra cash from his sometimes-employer Gwen Phasma (Jeri Hogarth), the high-powered defense attorney who never faces defeat. He keeps to himself, too, which is easy to do due to his standoffish temperament. But beneath the hard-bitten, leather jacket-clad exterior lies a chasmic well of deep-rooted insecurities and crippling self-loathing that he numbs with liters of bourbon and by prying into other people’s lives. It’s easier than dealing with his own.
As a youth, with his parents busy with their respective lives, Ben would be shipped off to stay with his uncle Luke at his farmhouse north of the Solo’s residence in the idyllic suburbs.
One afternoon, while driving, Luke and Ben collided into a tanker truck of G.L. Force Energy Chemicals, killing Luke and critically injuring Ben.
Following a grueling months-long hospital stay, Ben returned home to parents who threw themselves into their work to avoid dealing with the loss of their family member as the volatile Ben distanced himself from them, blaming himself for his uncle’s death and feeling guilty that he survived. The accident... it played on an endless loop in his mind; the fight he and Luke had gotten into, Ben spewing virulent words about his absent, self-centered parents that caused Luke to tear his attention off of the road for a split second, a second that changed their lives forever.
Another painful reminder of that day, one he could never evade even if he tried, were the mysterious superhuman abilities Ben had gained; the enhanced strength and speed, his durability against bodily harm, his rapid healing, and flight capability — a leap, then guided fall. Ben vowed to do good with the powers. Be a hero. A way of casting out the bad with the good. Maybe he could make his parents proud this way. Maybe they’d love him for it in a way he felt they never had.
Years later, as an adult, Ben happened upon a violent altercation one evening: a man was being mugged and beaten. Ben launched one of the muggers off of the battered victim to square off with the other thief, who wielded a knife. The muggers were relentless, but Ben thwarted them with a seething raw strength that burned inside of him. As he knelt to care for the bleeding victim, a smattering of applause echoed through the deserted street. A man with deep scars marking his alabaster skin regarded Ben with awe and intent gleaming in the steely blue of his eyes.
“Come here, let me look at you,” the sonorous voice commanded, though not harshly, but soft and almost encouraging. It was a demand, but one laced with a hidden control, even if Ben thought he walked over by his own accord to receive esteem from the mysterious individual. All Ben wanted to do was what he said. To do what Snoke said.
Exploiting his feelings of inadequacy and resentment toward his parents as well as his festering guilt over the death of his uncle, Snoke manipulated Ben into doing his bidding under the guise of Kylo Ren. And even under the intoxicating, all-consuming control that destroyed Ben’s mind, there was a part of him that fought; longing for his mother and father, longing for the light and freedom.
Snoke had to stamp out the threat that stirred Ben’s conflicted soul. Kylo Ren had never faced such a test. All it took were a couple of words from Snoke, imbued with malice, and a swift fist to the chest from Ben killed Han in an instant, his limp body collapsing onto the pavement with a blunt finality. The deed Snoke believed would strengthen the darkness in Kylo Ren and facilitate his grip on him split Ben Solo’s spirit to the bone. And it somehow relinquished Snoke’s control over him.
“Get back here, Kylo Ren!” Snoke’s cacophonous voice bleated into the crisp air, but the catatonic Ben, with his father’s blood dripping from his hands, staggered to the other side of the street. The honking of an approaching bus preceded the last words Ben ever heard Snoke utter, ones that lingered in his mind like an odor. “Now, Kylo Ren!”
The bus barreled through, swerving to miss Han’s dead body and striking Snoke seemingly dead. And though physically free from his control, mentally... Snoke was always there. Ben would feel him in his bedroom while he tried to sleep at night, hear his haunting voice slither into his mind, or fearfully expect to see him upon turning street corners. In moments like those, Ben shut his eyes and relied on the technique a therapist had once taught him: recall childhood street names. Through ragged breaths, Ben would recite: Embassy Row, Barbican Road, Grand Promenade, Chandrila Lane.
It was never enough, so Ben withdrew from the world, cutting everyone from his life and starting up his own private detective agency: Solo Investigations.
There was only one person in his life he could ever truly turn to if he needed to: his best friend Rey, her cheery face omnipresent on advertisements for her radio talk show all over the city. But he keeps her at a distance — anything to prevent her from getting into harm’s way.
Rey Johnson (Patricia “Trish” Walker)
Rey Johnson is a former model, pop one-hit wonder and child star of the television program “It’s Kira” that had an upbeat earworm of a theme song: “It’s Kira! It’s Kira! I really wanna be your friend! Hope this day will never end...”
At a young age, Rey had been placed into acting as a means to finance her abusive and neglectful parents’ alcohol addiction. Except, of course, being a child star is hardly the dream its cracked up to be. Pimped out by her parents and chewed up and spat out for entertainment ended with Rey finding solace in drugs and alcohol. It took countless rehab stints — and help from her childhood friend Ben — but Rey came out the other side, leaving the blinding lights of show biz behind.
Now she hosts the wildly popular radio talk show called “Rey’s Resistance”, the highest rated talk show in the city.
Finn Storm (Malcolm Ducasse)
Neighbor to Ben Solo with an appetite for crunchy peanut butter, Finn Storm once had aspirations of being a social worker. As the child of a community activist and a church worker, choosing the path dedicated to helping others made sense.
But one fateful night, being mugged, beaten, and subsequently saved by a powered stranger proved to be his undoing. Following Ben’s escape from the mind-controller, Snoke located Finn and hooked him onto drugs as a means of manipulating him into spying on Ben, photographing him and delivering the prints to Snoke as a way of keeping tabs on him.
Poe Dameron (Will Simpson)
Poe Dameron is an officer for the New York Police Department and former soldier part of the U.S. Army's Special Ops and its mysterious involvement in a private corporation known as IGH. In the midst of Ben’s search to find Snoke, Poe is compelled by the mind-controller to kill Rey after she speaks ill of Snoke live on her radio show, but Ben foils the attack. Ridden with guilt, Poe makes it his personal mission to capture Snoke — even if it clashes with Ben’s plans for justice.

Bad news for those looking forward to Jamzuli Bomb 5: Part 2
@jbrito-draws @selinindigo @indigo-arts @jamzulibomb
I’ve been having trouble coming up with a decent schedule to start part 2 of this 3-part Jamzuli Bomb and @imaplatypus-art/@imaplatypuz decided she didn’t want to do these Jamzuli Bomb commissions anymore, which is disappointing because she was pretty much the reason the Jamzuli ship was kept alive.
I was hoping on making part 2 being Crossover-themed where Lapis and Jamie meet couples from seven select/different franchises and part 3 being a “free-for-all” meaning you would be free to draw whatever you wanted as long as Jamzuli is involved.
However, I’m losing faith in my own plans and I’m thinking I might want to pass them onto someone who knows how to make a coherent schedule.
So unless someone is willing to host Jamzuli Bomb 5+ in my place then I’m left with no choice but to cancel parts 2 and 3.
Here’s my list for my planned part 2 btw
Jamzuli Bomb 5: Part 2:
Entry 1: Jurato [Jeri x Takato from Digimon Tamers] Takato and Jeri [Juri” as she’s called in Japan] introduce Jamie and Lapis to Guilmon
Entry 2: Kendy [K.O.! x Dendy from OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes] K.O.! and Dendy show Lapis and Jamie their POW card collection(s)
Entry 3: Samus x Little Mac [from Super Smash Bros.] Samus and Little Mac are in a team for a Smash tournament and Lapis and Jamie are cheering them on.
Entry 4: Broly x Cheelai [from Dragon Ball Super Broly] Lapis mistakes Cheelai for a Peridot, and Jamie is insecure about his muscles after seeing Broly.
Entry 5: Dipifica [Dipper x Pacifica from Gravity Falls] One year after the finale of Gravity Falls and Pacifica finally (and nervously) asks Dipper to go out with her, and Lapis and Jamie squee at the sight.
Entry 6: Jesslake [Jesse x Lake (also known as M.T.) from Infinity Train] Lapis, Jamie, Jesse, and Lake look at the very lake where “M.T.” got her name.
Entry 7: Starco [Star and Marco from Star Vs. The Forces Of Evil] Star and Marco jump in to help Lapis protect Jamie from wild monsters.

So.
Leomon and Jeri's discussion re: "If everyone gets hurt, it'll be all my fault" "No, it's the fault of the Digimon who hurt us" is so important given that Leomon gets killed and Jeri hates Beelzemon for killing him but she blames herself. Leomon's death is her fault. If everyone else gets hurt fighting over her and her pain, that's her fault. It sets up so beautifully for that.
But this also plays into the bigger conversation that Digimon Tamers wants to have about Destiny and Choice. Are we destined to do something, or do we choose to do it?
Jeri says she's destined for tragedy. But it's also baked into her insecurities and her constant feeling like things are her fault - that takes power away from the choices the other characters have.
Leomon didn't choose to sacrifice himself; Jeri wasn't a good enough Tamer to stop it from happening.
Beelzemon didn't kill Leomon; Jeri wasn't a good enough trainer to keep it from happening.
Takato and Guilmon and Beelzemon are fighting because of Impmon/Beelzemon's choices; he CHOSE to stab them in the back and he CHOSE to kill Leomon and Takato and Guilmon are CHOOSING to bring him to task for that; but Jeri sees this as her fault because they're fighting over her because she wasn't able to stop them.
And part of this is Leomon bringing up destiny as a thing, but this was true even before they were partners.
And Digimon Tamers comes down so hard on the side of choice. Our destiny is what we choose to make it.
Which...feels like it might be a rebuttal of the previous seasons? And the idea of Digi-Destined? And prophecies? And etc.?
(But I could be wrong because I haven't seen very much of those.)

talk about your elaborate headcanons abt jeri&gus' and gui&zeal's =v (I really want to hear tho...)
Okay... Yes, thank you for enabling me. This is gonna be long, sorry everyone.
I’ve always been super interested about their family dynamic. Like, their parents didn’t go to Gustaf’s funeral. That could be because Nakaba, uh... just doesn’t think about things, but I also like to think about it as if their parents are dead or out of their lives. It seems a lot like their Nanny/Maid had raised them, and Gustaf had to raise Jericho similarly to Guila and Zeal (Nakaba like endlessly parallels their families. And I don’t mean to be a biased bastard, but I’m going to incorporate that here, too.)
The only thing we really know about their family is that they come from a line of wealthy knights, according to one of the NnT novels. In that book, taking place 8 years ago, it mentions Gustaf had just gotten a gift of a new sword for his knight training. (We learn this during a scene where he’s doing to a training session with Dale, actually. This is also shortly before the whole mess with Dale happens.)
We can assume their father was a knight, and their mother definitely was not, since then Gustaf’s beliefs about female knights wouldn’t... make sense.
Going off of all that, I really like the idea of Jericho and Gustaf’s father having died because of Dale, when he went berserk. Just during that whole event. Guila’s family got to connect to reactor class in an interesting and relevant way, so I think it'd make sense for Jericho’s to have as well!
The whole situation just tore the family apart. The idea of their mother just abandoning the family because of grief is also something I like a lot... it could be where Jericho learned to just up and run from her problems, rather than face them. Like at the start of arc 2, when she ran after Ban because she didn’t want to face her brother after what had happened. She completely skipped town without a word, the whole kingdom, because they don’t have communication skills. On Gustaf’s end, the same applies to him, though he isn’t someone who up and runs, he’s just cold and avoidant. Being abandoned by their mother could also help explain some of Gustaf’s relationship to women, lmfao?
Gustaf also burdens his father similar to Guila. But rather than burdening blame like she does, he burdens his family line, the status of his father, and legacy, which is why he’s such an insecure, pompous prick. They both want to live up to their lost fathers out of obligation, but for different reasons. Gustaf puts pressures like this on Jericho, suppressing her so she doesn’t slander the family. This could be a motivation for that.
SO... Jericho ends up with Guila like fate, the daughter of the guy who just wrecked her whole family, but she’s really the first person who doesn’t project the blame on Guila, like the rest of the kingdom does. Maybe Guila knows this, maybe she doesn’t. Connections like this are an important part of their dynamic, though. I like the depth with them that could be added with this!!!
(If Jericho did make it aware to her, and how it never even crossed her mind to blame her, that would be incredibly important to Guila’s characterization. We never really met anyone who did the whole, “You’re not your father, etc” thing with Guila, which kind of baffles me since that pressure, burden, and public torment is a huge part of her character. (Then that transitions beautifully into when Guila bonds with Veronica and she forgives Guila for her own actions, aka trying to kill her. It just keeps happening!)
When Jericho finds Dale’s transformed body, it’s closure for her as well, but also raises a lot of panic and horror-- since she learns everything was out of Dale’s control, and she’s heading down that same path. The old generation of reactor class becomes the new.
Jericho doesn’t want to become a mindless monster and hurt people, especially the ones she cares about. And this all comes together to when she does go berserk, and nearly kills her brother, those fears becoming real and paralleling their own father, etc etc. Everything wraps up with a pretty bow.

character ask game: seven of nine and b'elenna torres
from this ask game
thanks for asking! since i'm procrastinating anyways i'm just gonna go through all the questions and put a cut because uh. this will be long :)
Seven of Nine:
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
I'm always obsessed with characters struggling with humanity/personhood and Seven is the character to me that best exemplifies that struggle in addition to having so many complex narratives about trauma and guilt that are surprisingly well explored despite Voyager's tendency to avoid any serialized elements. plus Jeri Ryan's acting really sells it.
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
her autistic swag. no but actually her bluntness and willingness to challenge others (particularly Janeway) is really refreshing and adds some great conflict to Voyager.
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
going to cop out and say the costuming lmao. it bothers me so fucking much and in my head Seven's been wearing science blues on Voyager since s4.
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
i think Seven in any Doctor Who media would be really fascinating maybe specifically paired with the Eighth or Ninth Doctor? i think a lot of her problems around guilt and inhumanity are thoroughly explored in Doctor Who but she would also challenge the Doctor well when it comes to violence and whether the ends justify the means.
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
Machine by Regina Spektor
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
a fear of intimacy and insecurity about letting people around you know the real me... oh dear. on a more uplifting side, all of Seven's interactions with Tuvok really remind me of me and my dad. autism for the win.
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
idk how widespread it is but i love thinking of Seven as a physically disabled character and her post-Voyager having to navigate medical systems that are openly hostile (if not downright dangerous) and her eventually finding that it's easier to be in pain and patch injuries together by herself than trusting others.
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
hmmm i don't think this is true on tumblr rn but i've read some older fic and posts that just comes off as weirdly infantilizing just because she isn't great with social interactions. (it's also just a larger problem of infantilizing neurodivergent coded characters).
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
tbh yeah? i think Seven might get annoyed at my tendency to leave clutter around and i might get annoyed at her tendency to mess around with things without telling people but i think we could pretty easily agree on boundaries and stick to them.
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
i would love to try but realistically i think both of us are too wary of social situations to actually be close friends.
11. Would you date this character?
if Seven asked me on a date then i would say yes but also i'm arospec and Seven has way too many relationship issues going on so that would not last.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
Seven cut off all contact with Voyager's crew after Icheb died because of her guilt over his death except for Naomi who she sent a message to on every birthday.
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
gonna be honest the last thing i associate with Seven are emojis so... none?
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
maybe a bit predictable but i would love a steampunk redesign of Seven.
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
Seven/Raffi!! they have a great combination of being actually cute and having tons of unresolved conflict and some parallels (i.e. Seven accidentally causing her sort-of-son's death because she tried to be in an intimate relationship vs Raffi pushing her son away because she was too focused on her career and Doing the Right Thing). i really wish their relationship was a bigger part of Picard (particularly s3) and we didn't keep having them break-up offscreen and then ambiguously get back together like their relationship felt like such an afterthought and i realllllly hope we get some show or movie or even a book where Seven and Raffi get to be lead characters together.
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
Seven/Shaw is one of my few hated ships. if you like it then sure whatever i don't really care but i'm incredibly uninterested in shipping characters where one repeatedly deadnames the other and is just generally rude and dismissive. i actually really like their canon dynamic, i think Shaw is a great semi-antagonist for Seven with good narrative purpose and i dig the begrudging respect he eventually has for her but I Do Not ship it.
17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
Seven/B'Elanna. it's not something i really picked up on watching voyager and i'm not super interested in it but i definitely see how it could work and be a good dynamic! i'm not a b7 shipper but i support their beliefs.
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
admire is a strong word (and tbh i don't think i admire any of Seven's relationships, she's an absolute mess on that front) but i'm fascinated by Janeway and Seven's relationship. it was obviously written to be a mentor & student dynamic but so much of it is fucked up in a really compelling way (with some strong sapphic vibes going on) with Janeway essentially forcing Seven to be human and presuming to know who Seven should be and then acting surprised when Seven isn't her perfect protege (even echoing the control the Borg Queen has over the Collective. sorry i just watched Dark Frontier the other day so that's fresh in my mind). i would die to see them have a scene in Picard era because there's just so much to get into.
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
Seven & the EMH. in the Voyager of version that exists in my head, they have a good dynamic and friendship and i generally politely ignore some of the later canon stuff but yeah... not a fan of the Doctor's crush on her that just ends up falling into a very objectifying "older man is in love with his young female student" dynamic in seasons 6 and 7.
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
i'm forever bitter than Seven and Hugh didn't have A SINGLE SCENE together. especially because the actors are actual friends! injustice! Seven and Hugh would be so cool together as they've shared so many of the same experiences but came out of them as very different people – Hugh choosing to be kind in the face of hatred and help the xBs vs Seven running away from the problem so she doesn't have to face her past. but yeah. Hugh is ideal best friend material.
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
hm. i've mostly written (incomplete) stuff for Picard-era Seven and i really like to hone in on smaller movements and specify that they're very purposeful and planned because Seven has spent so long practicing "looking" and behaving human enough as a survival tactic (same thing with the way she speaks) and i love having her movements and speech pattern fall back to her earlier self when she's stressed or focused on something else.
something i don't like is that i have a hard time capturing her internal monologue and the way she views the world, particularly with Voyager-era Seven) as it always ends up coming out either too robotic or too human.
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to the character? Something you don't like?
hmmm i really like fics that explore some of the darker body horror type nature of the xBs (and particularly Seven) and i tend to get annoyed with stories (including canon ones) that erase the fact that part of her is still Borg.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
i do love the screencap that's my current icon (from The Haunting of Deck 12) but s1 Picard Seven is my favorite look of hers and particularly this shot is just. very good.
Tumblr media
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
oh this is an incredibly obscure pull but Compassion from the Eighth Doctor Adventure books who is a clone that's been recycled so many times that she's lost any resemblance to the person she was based on and has to struggle with not being a real person in a way that reminds me a lot of Seven.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
awhile before i started watching Voyager i had a friend who kept telling me how much i would like Seven (they guessed correctly) and from them i knew a) she was queer b) she was a badass c) she struggled with the idea of humanity which... again. is exactly my type of character and my impression hasn't majorly changed other than realizing that she is a much more nuanced and complex character than i originally thought.
B'Elanna Torres:
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
i love B'Elanna! she's just a good character who has so much internal strife but tries to be strong and not let anyone know that she's in pain which is tragic but i am a tragedy enjoyer first and foremost.
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
i think the sadness she has, especially when she's alone and there's no one to argue with, is so compelling and Roxann Dawson plays her really well. i also love that she's shown as very competent and and intelligent but didn't graduate from the Academy and doesn't have a particular love of Starfleet unlike 95% of other Star Trek characters.
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?
because of the all (or at least mostly) white writers i think her character often leans into some unfortunate "fiery/angry Latina" stereotypes that's not recognized enough because it's always under the guise of "oh well it's because she's Klingon" but like. assigning undesirable personality traits to races, even if fictional, is. still racist.
4. If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
I'm not huge into Star Wars but I think B'Elanna would thrive joining the rebels in the original trilogy.
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
it might be the fact that i'm currently listening to this song but Mama by My Chemical Romance.
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
i think we both have a tendency to doubt our ability to do things that we're good at when faced with people who might be more qualified but less talented but i love how quickly B'Elanna does gain confidence in her abilities in s1 and 2 and i hope to follow in her footsteps.
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
i have a lot of respect for the closeted lesbian B'Elanna headcanons i must say.
8. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
idk if this is a widespread fandom take or not but i always dislike the idea that B'Elanna would remain in Starfleet post-Voyager. like the show itself kind of forgets that the Maquis crew on Voyager still has some pretty big beef with the Federation (for good reason) and i don't think she would ever want to join Starfleet unless they have some systemic changes.
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
i think we would definitely have certain habits that would annoy each other but like with Seven, i feel like if we came up with some boundaries both of us would stick to them and it would work out.
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
we have very different personalities that would clash a bit too much to be best friends but i think we would get along.
11. Would you date this character?
again, probably not more just because i'm aro and not super interested in dating and B'Elanna deserves someone better than me.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
after returning from the Delta Quadrant, B'Elanna opens an engineering shop where she rehabs old ships (with or without Tom).
13. What's an emoji, an emoticon and/or any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think the character would use a lot?
i think B'Elanna would respond to a lot of messages with just the middle finger🖕
14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.
B'Elanna would rock 90s grunge fashion so hard.
15. What's your favorite ship for this character? (Doesn't matter if it's canon or not.)
hmmm i thought about this for awhile and honestly i just can't really think of a ship that makes sense for her because she deserves much better than the canon characters she interacts with.
16. What's your least favorite ship for this character?
i've seen B'Elanna/Chakotay around a few times and... no. not for me please.
17. What's a ship for this character you don't hate but it's not your favorite that you're fine with?
B'Elanna/Seven (as I said in Seven's section)
18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
i generally like B'Elanna & Chakotay's canon relationship (with a few notable exceptions where things get weird) and i think Chakotay is such a good mentor figure for her as someone who shares the same political ideology but is older and wiser and knows better than to act only out of anger.
19. How about a relationship they have in canon that you don't like?
B'Elanna/Tom and it's not that i don't think the characters could work together, there are a few moments from the show and people's fanons or whatnot that have a lot of potential. and there's so much potential inherent in two characters with a lot of issues that they tend to hide with humor or aggression or whatever who are now forced to indefinitely be part of this crew/family. however i hate that all of their interactions are plagued with 90s sexism and always shown from Tom's perspective of how much he struggles being in a relationship and remembering to pay attention to B'Elanna as if that's just. an expected part of being in a relationship rather than a problem that needs to be resolved. and so many episodes focus on their relationship problems and we rarely get to see them being happy so it comes off feeling like they're trapped in an unhappy marriage.
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
B'Elanna and Harry! they have such a good dynamic in s1 with Harry being the embodiment of Starfleet idealism and B'Elanna being so jaded towards Federation idealism and Harry over time developing his own Problems and B'Elanna beginning to resolve her issues. i wish we got more of them together!
21. If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?
i haven't written any fic for B'Elanna yet so i'll just skip this one
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to the character? Something you don't like?
tbh i haven't read much B'Elanna fic. i'll get around to it! i've only been a Voyager fan for like 6 months.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
i love her curly hair from the beginning of s6 sooooo much
Tumblr media
24. What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?
Clara from Doctor Who (specifically in s9). they both have some deep insecurities that they try to cover up with quips and deflection. they're also both very clever but don't necessarily think through their actions and have a tendency to throw themselves into danger.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
tbh i didn't really have a strong opinion about any of the Voyager characters when i first started the show and kind of expected B'Elanna to fall into the mixed (alien) race stereotype of torn between two worlds and some of the accompanying racist tropes but tbh B'Elanna became a much deeper character than i ever expected both with exploring the tension of her heritage and internalized racism (Barge of the Dead & Lineage come to mind) but also exploring her mental health (Extreme Risk) and how her character reveals some of the issues inherent in the Federation's existence. i just wish that Voyager did more and was willing to create a more complete arc for her that doesn't leave some stuff like her self harming behaviors and grief over the Maquis alone after one episode. i also didn't expect her to be probably the most competent engineer in all of Star Trek but i maintain that she is.

'Jessica Jones': We Finally Have a Superhero Icon for the #TimesUp Era - Rolling Stone
A lot of people try to slap labels on Jessica Jones. If you've watched the first season of Netflix's Marvel show, you know that's a bad move if you want to keep your limbs intact. In the series' sophomore season, which starts streaming today, our detective with the strength of 10 men and the massive chip on her shoulder gets called a "vigilante superhero." A "freak." A "murderer." A "ticking time bomb." "Keep telling me who I am. I dare you," she says finally, officially hitting her fed-the-hell-up capacity.
"Fed the hell up" is, in fact, the very trait that makes Jessica one of the more captivating – and cathartic – characters on TV right now. As played by Krysten Ritter, she's a perpetually pissed-off private investigator with a wry wit, a drinking problem and enough super strength to deadlift a car or leap to the top of a fire escape. Not Captain America levels, but enough juice to be able to do some serious damage.
Most importantly, she's angry, all the time, courtesy of some very deep wrongs that have been done to her and the people she loves – repeatedly, brutally and committed mostly by men. And it's the ways in which she copes (or doesn't) with her rage, drinks it away or punches it out, avoids it or is shaken awake at night by it, that's turned her into such a compelling icon for the #MeToo age. It's no coincidence that the show's long-awaited second season is dropping on March 8th, which is International Women's Day. We are legion, and we are fed the hell up.
Jessica Jones is part of Netflix's stable of Marvel superhero shows, sharing a fictional Manhattan with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and the team-'em'all-up crossover series The Defenders. Adapted by Melissa Rosenberg from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos' comic book series, Jones stands out from the rest. Jessica is a hardboiled P.I. in the tradition of Sam Spade and Rick Deckard (and, more vitally, Veronica Mars). She takes cases for money rather than any high-minded moral reasons, and she's only interested in her superpowers inasmuch as they help her to do her job. No spandex bodysuit or high-concept alter ego for this gal – just a beat-up leather jacket and a defiant sneer. As for the show itself, Its visual and narrative aesthetics derive less from typical superhero blockbusters and more from 1940s film noir. It isn't afraid to go dark.
In the show's first season, Jessica faced off against Kilgrave (Doctor Who's David Tennant), a mind-controlling supervillain who raped her and forced her to commit murder while she was under his influence. She was aided by a small but loyal band of allies: her adoptive sister Trish Walker (Rachael Taylor); her neighbor Malcolm Ducasse (Eka Darville); her erstwhile lover Luke Cage (Mike Colter); and her morally gray lawyer Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss). Flush with power, crippled by insecurity and literally able to bend the world to his will, Kilgrave served as a chilling avatar for toxic masculinity. He did his level best to unravel Jessica's world (talk about gaslighting); the only way she could be free of him in the end was to snap his neck. Kilgrave set out to possess and destroy her. In some ways, he succeeded.
That was back in November 2015, when Donald Trump's campaign for president was but a distant cloud on the horizon, Harvey Weinstein was still quietly ensconced in power and threats to women's welfare, at least superficially, seemed a lot less dire than they do now. With Jessica Jones, Rosenberg tapped into that aquifer of women's very real rage and anxiety bubbling just below the surface. Now, in 2018, it's become a roiling sea, whipped into frenzy by naked sexism at the highest levels of government and the exposure of sexual predators and inequality at every level of society. In other words, it's the perfect moment for Jessica to come roaring back to the screen, fists swinging and bullshit meter set to "fuck right off."
Rosenberg (who's also an executive producer) is committed to telling feminist stories both onscreen and behind the scenes. Pointedly, all 13 episodes of Season Two are directed by women, a bold and inclusive move that follows in the footsteps of Ava DuVernay's Queen Sugar. The impressive roster includes Uta Briesewitz (The Deuce, Orange Is the New Black), Minkie Spiro (Better Call Saul, One Mississippi) and Rosemary Rodriguez (The Walking Dead, The Good Wife).
If the first season was about surviving deep trauma, Season Two is about what comes after: namely, anger. Rosenberg examines feminist rage from a variety of angles, through Jessica but also through the women around her. The big bad is less clear than it was in Season One, because it's everywhere and nowhere. Our heroine must delve into the murky origins of her super strength, which she'd rather not know about; and Trish reckons with a figure from her days as a teenage TV star, an all-too-real monster straight out of a #MeToo exposé. Meanwhile, Hogarth grapples with dire news that causes her question everything about her life.
All three women wrap themselves in armor – Jessica via detachment and alcoholism, Trish via her reputation and sense of control, Hogarth via wealth and power – that will feel familiar to any woman coping with simply trying to exist in a world that fears and marginalizes them. Jessica Jones asks the complex question of what happens when the coping mechanisms we build up over time, like thick skin growing over a blister, stop serving us.
What makes Jessica such a riveting character is that she wears her damage on her sleeve, something that many "strong female characters" aren't allowed to do. Rosenberg and Co. very purposefully co-opt the tropes of film noir, a genre that classically traffics in closed-off male heroes – and puts a woman in the tarnished-white-knight role instead of the femme fatale slot. Like those hardboiled private dicks before her, Jessica is tough, narrating her cases in grim voiceover, headlights through venetian blinds casting striated shadows across her face. She's also a mess, and doesn't care who knows it. Jessica has the grace to be brittle, and to fall apart. This lady performs for no one, including the viewers. And right now, that's a story we need to see.

Scars to your beautiful
Tw mentions of scars, insecurities and burns
Ok to rb
Tumblr media
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
It wasnt normal for him to feel bad about the scar on his head, hed wear it with pride, since it was a way of reminding himself of the adversity he got over.
But tonight was different, hed gotten a haircut and there he was, almost ready to sleep, half naked looking himself in his phones camera.
His fingertips traced over the scar, sighing.
Turning off his phone the single thought in his mind was "ugly".
--Watcha thinking of?--jerico asked hugging him from behind, wearing his floral button up shirt.
--nothing-- he looked away putting his hand on his thigh in an attempt to lie.
And I say attempt because he failed miserably.
--is it the scar?
He nodded looking away--i know I Shouldnt feel bad but--
A soft hand traced over the line on his hair , he looks at jeri who smiles--its part of you,its okay to be insecure, I myself are insecure of my stretchmarks, and yet you love em.
Just because you think something is ugly it doesnt mean it is..,that scar is part of what makes you you, and honestly you look kinda hot with it
Cesar chuckles falling on the bed with her, a hand behind hud head and the other on his chest.
Jer traced over the various burn marks around his shoulder and bicep along his forearm.
--Those are very hot..not uh ...no pun intended -- he chuckles, closing his eyes.
He then feels a kiss on the scarred side of his head and then feels jerico rest her own head on his chest-- te amo
He blushed slightly caressing her fluffy hair--yo también
