Snape lovers be like- James only saved Snape to save Remus!! But the only reason they love Snape was because he became a double agent and saved Harry but they dismiss the fact that Snape did that only because he was obsessed with Lily and was pushed in by Dumbledore!!

I thought we normalized bullying Nazi’s and racists but all of a sudden when it’s an arrogant quidditch player who grew up in the 70’s, wears glasses, and can turn into a stag, it’s an issue.

You know what let the Snape stans do their thing! We should not spend this day arguing about why a good man is better than a child abuser. We will not have time to spend the day crying if we argue up until the point James' birthday is about Snape.

Justifying James Potter as a Character

Believe me, I get into a lot of arguments with Snape lovers who downplay James Potter to make Severus Snape look good. The points are usually only based on the movies or completely made up. The only valid point that they give is that James bullied Snape so he is the worst person here. That simple memory is enough to make opinions about a character. There were so many mentions of James in small fragments that get lost in the pages. Snape's memory is so highlighted that even Harry's conversation with Remus and Sirius is forgotten. If you are one of them I suggest you to please read the following. Even for me, it took a reread to completely understand why Snape is not as good as we portray him to be and James Potter is not as bad as we portray him to be...…. I love James more than Snape. Sure James bullied Snape but Snape did fight back. He was never the victim. They were rivals. Just like Draco and Harry. So now, all the James haters, how can you justify the fact that he bullied children who were a lot younger than him. If Snape truly loved Lily, he would have cared more for her happiness not the death of her husband and child. Snape's 'love' for lily was basically obsession. He did not care about anything. If he had what he wanted he was happy. He would never care how his actions affected the other person. And also if Snape loved Lily it certainly was not her duty to love him back. She thought of him as a friend. She never chose James over Snape. There was no this or that in her mind. Put yourself in Lily's shoes for a moment and think, if your friend, a person you cared about called you the worst name(mudblood) anyone could ever give you, would you really trust that person again? It also is not fair on Snape;s side that he wanted a part in both the world, a world with lily and another which persecuted people like her. He also called every muggleborn mudblood except lily. He was prejudiced. The way he remained loyal to lily was a very good aspect of Snape's character but it took Lily's death to bring him on the right side. James on the other hand became an animagus for his werewolf friend instead of shunning him, gave Sirius a home when he ran away from his abusive childhood, loaned remus money from his inheritance because he could not get a job due to his condition, walked to his own death to give time for his family to escape. When he made that decision he knew he was going to die. And most important of all saved Snape from Lupin when he was in his werewolf form. He despised Snape but did not want him dead but Snape on the other hand created the spell Sectumsempra for his enemies and James was on top of that list. Think whatever you want but judging such a great person based on a single one sided memory is not justified. One memory is not enough to conclude James' story or any other character's story. James was the bully who grew up to be a hero. So the next time you say "I hate James because he bullied Snape" think twice.
