YGESSSSS. NEW BSB ENJOYER FOUND. who is your favorite character if i may ask... i have like atleast 5 but kai is at the top i think. sometimes i think about this image and i'm like "my god what the fuck even is that". one of the guys of all time
“WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT” LMFAOOO no because thats exactly what my friend said when they saw yuriy KEDBJSBSGWJW. What is. Wrong with his eyebrows....looking like a creature…a bug with antannae perhaps….
BUT MY FAVORITE IS MAX‼️‼️‼️hes been my fav ever since i started watching it love him… my second favorite is kai probably though LOL. I can tell hes one of those fan favorite characters right🤔usually characters like him are… not a bad thing just an observation lol. Metal fight beyblade was the beyblade show i had known my entire life and was a big fan of so i wanted to see the other beyblade shows with it and for some reason i watched beyblade burst before bakuten shoot ????? Yeah that 7 season show i only liked the very first season of… the rest was so boring and for some reason i forced myself to watch it by using it as background noise😭
idk why i didnt give up and watch bakuten instead, took me too long lmfao. Th reason why i mentioned metal fight is that since i knew that show my entire life i had certain expectations on certain type of characters (ik bakuten came first but metal couldve been influenced by it and it was bcs there are similarities lol) (i mean king [from bakuten] looks almost identical to dynamis [from mfb] <- thats just one example) so i thought, while i was watching season 1, Kai Hiwatari was gonna be like Kyouya Tategami where hes with the team yes but doesnt see himself as a part of it and is there for himself only bcs hes a loner or whatever but then that thing at the end of the season happened he became a part of the team and the didnt have random unnecessary off screen character regression like kyouya did in the next 2 seasons (and also isnt an asshole abt it like when he left temporarily to battle takao in g revulotion he wasnt like “fuck you dumbass” like kyouya did basically 😭😭)….
That was so refreshing to see bcs thats not what i was expecting and thank god it exceeded my expectations 😭 thats why i keep saying kai is kyouya done right bcs he kinda is…. Though i find it funny when hes just standing in the background w his arms crossed or laying on the grass like damn bro wants to be cool so bad (not as cool as the frame of rei kon absolutely BALLING)
Said max is my favorite and talked about kai the entire time LOL no but he’s my fav i love that guy EXCEPT. the fact that. He likes mayonnaise… idgaf if its ur style mayonnaise is disgusting im disappointed in you max…..
I also like Yuriy who also seems to be a fan favorite from what ive seen which i expected but i like him in a way like, hes so funny to me. Bro walkin around with bug antannae and the worst posture youve ever seen. Why is he built like that. Fucking thing. Also big fan of the weird ass sht he does in g revulotion when doing special moves hes got CLAWS hell yeah. No bcs no one elses looks like dat when they do it⬇️ as a certified creature fan i can proudly confirm this, indeed, is one of the creature moments of all time.
⬆️i remember seeing this frame before watching the show and thinking what could possibly be the context behind this LMFAO . Shoutout to Rei kon for also being a creature big fan of the pointy ears and slit orange eyes (v force when i catch you v force)
I dont know peoples opinions of daichi but he seems like the type of character ppl might hate for being annoying but i like him bcs he reminds me of me and my brother when we were little (im the younger sibling) bcs every interaction between takao and daichi reminded me of us LMFAO 10/10 sibling dynamic (better than takaos actual brotha😬)
N lemme see if i have any kai screenies i took cauze i took a sht tonna screenshots
I was gonna capriin thwm but idk how to write inbetween them so im typing them here
First pic - already has a caption
Second pic - ths shit makes me laugh everytime im so glad people are not hesitant to resort to violence in this saga
Third pic - V force jumpscare
Fourth pic - what is he listening to . Do you guys think Kai Hiwatari would like Yuno Miles
Fifth pic - one…..one piece…..
Sixth pic - they forgot to colour teh pack of his hair lol
Seventh pic - no need for a caption. What is that
Last pic - he. Smirks like an animal. Idk how to explain it but, he smiles like how an animal or an ailen trying to do it for the first time would do it
I will read the manga soon i have physical copies of the first 4 volumes and ill find the rest on the net bcs bakuten media is so much easier to find that mfb is THANK GOD. I will also be looking up shitty 13 yr old amv s and yall better have sum real 2011 sht

You have done an (excelent) post on how to reinvent Batman as a Pulp Hero. Do you think you could do one to Superman as well? Or do you think it is impossible to do this with the progenitor of the Super Hero genre without transforming him in a totaly diferent character?
Well, you saying it as impossible only makes it seem ever more tempting of a challenge, but yes, it is a bit harder. I'm gonna link my Batman post here as a reference point.
Partially because Batman's a franchise I've thought extensively about for a long time in regards to what I like about it or how I'd like to approach if given the opportunity, which is not something I can really say for Superman until more recently the Big Blue to start orbiting my brain. I don't have years worth of redesigns or fan concepts saved on my galleries and files to comb through to pick and choose here, and my experience with Superman as a character is considerably different, in some aspects more deeply personal, and not really something I'd like to go into in this blog, at least not now.
Part of the reason why it's harder is also because Batman and Superman have very different relationships with their pulp inspirations. Batman was, ostensibly, a pulp character adapted to comics, a dime-a-dozen Shadow knock-off who picked up and played up diverging traits from other characters and gradually ran with them to gradually forge a unique identity. Superman right from the start was rooted in a much stronger conceptual underpinning: the Sci-Fi Superman and Alien Menace who, instead of being a tragic monster or a tyrannical villain, becomes a costumed adventurer and social crusader. Even the name Super-Man was taken from an early story of Siegel and Shuster about a telepathic villain who ends the story lamenting that he should have used his powers for the good of mankind instead of selfishness. I hesitate to call what Siegel and Shuster were doing “subversive” because that term's picked up a real negative connotation, and it's not like Siegel and Shuster were out to upend their influences (they were pulp aficionados themselves), but rather putting a more positive, new spin on them.
Which is why it also becomes a bit harder to do what I did with Batman and align Superman with some of his pulp-esque inspirations, like John Carter, Flash Gordon or Hugo Danner, without just making it "Superman but he's John Carter", "Superman but it's Flash Gordon", and "Iron Munro / Superman but everything sucks" respectively. It's harder to create a character that wouldn't feel reduntant and derivative at best, and actively contradictory to Superman at worst.
I guess if I had to come up with a "Pulp Hero Superman" take I liked, well first of all I'd have to take steps to distance it from the likes of Tom Strong or Al Ewing's Doc Thunder, those two are as good as it gets in regards to Pulp Supermen. I stipulated for Batman a "No Guns, No Murder, No Service" policy partially to distance my takes on Batman from all the "Pulp Batmen" that just add guns and murder and take Batman back to the barest of basics. Likewise, I'm adding a "No Depowered Science Hero" rule here, which means it's a take that's likely going to veer off a lot more into fantasy and probably enough tampering with Clark's character that it does risk becoming a different character.
Frankly I don't think I'm gonna succeed at doing these without just making it a new character entirely, because with Batman you can get away with just upending the character's aesthetic and setting and even origin and still keep it recognizably Bruce Wayne (in fact Batman does that all the time), which isn't really the case with Superman, who needs those to remain recognizably Superman as he goes through internal changes and character shifts. I guess what I'm gonna do here is more taking the building blocks of Superman/Clark Kent and see a couple new ways I can rearrange them to create a Pulp Superman
Perhaps something we can do is to scale back or recontextualize the "superhero" parts without diminishing Superman's role as a superpowered fantasy character.
One way we can start is by picking on that connection between Superman and the sci-fi supermen/alien monsters of pulps I mentioned earlier and play it up further, to create a Superman who's deeply, deeply alien in a way that no mild-mannered disguise or colorful outfit can really disguise, something so dramatically powerful and alien, that instead you could get tales about the kinds of ensuing changes and ripple effects this has on the world upon the The Super-Man's arrival. And for that I'm gonna have to quote @davidmann95's concept for Joshua Viers' absolutely stunning Superman redesign on the left side of the image above
The red, the goldish-orange and white, the alienness, the angelic, sculpted feeling, the halo, that innocently curious expression: it’s genuinely beautiful. Superman as a redeeming science-angel from beyond our understanding, as much past the uncanny valley of limited human comprehension as a Lovecraftian monster but tuned to the opposite key - you could spend an endless procession of human lifetimes trying and failing to understand this being, but all you’ll ever know for sure is that it is beyond you, and it knows you, and it loves you.
Superdoomsday from Earth 45, healed and transformed into the savior it was originally envisioned as? Some descendant of his, or a future of the man himself? An alien who picked up on a broadcast of Superman from Earth, and so inspired reshaped itself in his image to spread his ‘gospel’ to the stars?
Alternatively, to come back to Earth a little, many, many pulp characters and series were built off the antics and personalities of real people, celebrities getting their own magazines or serials or fictionalized takes on them, so perhaps one way to make a "pulp" take on Superman would be to emphasize a bit more of Superman's real-world roots, trends that inspired his creation directly or indirectly at the time. The Jewish strongman Sigmund Breibart and Shuster's interest in fitness culture, Harold Lloyd's comic persona, the rising "strongman" film genre in the early 20th century, actors Clark Gable and Kent Taylor that supposedly named his secret identity, Clark Kent being a socially-awkward journalist based of Siegel's own school experiences.
Maybe one start to an authentic Pulp Superman, who would still be Superman, would be to just ask the question "What if Superman was a real person and/or a celebrity, and they started making pulp magazines and serials dedicated to him? What would those look like?". You wouldn't even have to restrict it to just a story set in the 1930s, in fact you could even play around with the rise of new mediums over the decades.
This third one is a little closer to some plans I have for my own take on a Superman character, not necessarily what I would do with Superman proper but one of my ideas for a Superman analogue. Superman's a character I'll always associate strongly with childhood and childhood fantasy, and to tap into that I would emphasize the other end of the fiction that influenced Siegel and Shuster: comic strips, in their case specifically Little Nemo and Popeye.
In my case I would bring additional influences from some of the comic strips I personally grew up reading like Monica's Gang and Calvin and Hobbes, and I already talked a bit about Captain Fray in terms of how he’s a Superman character despite being a villain. I guess you could call this one "What if Superman was a public domain comic strip character, stripped of the importance of being the founding figure of a super popular genre or extended universe, and also was kind of ugly?".
He's not "Sloth from the Goonies" ugly, I swear I didn't actually have Sloth in mind when typing out this idea, I've never watched that film nor did I know until now that he actually spends the film in a Superman shirt. That's not really what I'm going for. Visually I was thinking of modeling my take on Superman heavily after Hugo from Street Fighter and his inspiration Andre the Giant, to really emphasize the “circus strongman / freak wrestler” aspect of Superman’s inspiration, particularly in regards to how Hugo’s SFIII version strikes a really great balance in making Hugo ugly and both comedic and fearsome in battle, as well as lovable and even a little dopey (without being outright stupid, like his IV self) in his victory animations and endings.
He's still Superman, he still goes on fantastical adventures to help people, he's still a deeply loving and compassionate soul whose face beams with joy and affection and who's got wonderful eyes and a great smile. It's just that this smile has a couple of mismatched stick-out teeth or some missing ones, and he's got a crooked smile some people take as smug or malicious, he’s got a strongman’s gut instead of a bodybuilder’s abs, his nose is a little busted (maybe he’s had too many crash landings), and his hair is a little wild or greasy, and he doesn't exactly have very good people skills because of how others usually react to him and, y'know, he doesn't get the kind of publicity Superman would get despite doing ostensibly the same things. He’s not deformed, he’s incredibly intelligent and capable, but in comparison to how superheroes are usually allowed to look, he might as well be Bizarro in the public eye.
It becomes a running gag that people tend to assume some nearby fireman or cop was the one who rescued the hundred orphans out of a burning building single-handedly, meanwhile he's getting accosted off-panel by police officers who think he set the building on fire, or think they can bully this weird man dressed funny. He goes to rescue old people in peril and occasionally they yell at him that they don't have any money. He doesn't get asked to lead superhero meetings or teams even though many in the community advocate for just how much he does for the world, he gets censored out of tv broadcasts or group shots (even his face is sometimes pixelated when they do show him), people invite him on talk shows and don't really let him talk or assume they got the wrong guy. He goes to rescue a woman dangling off a building, and then he gets attacked by like three different superhero teams who assume he must have kidnapped the poor damsel. He was the first superhero, he is the strongest of them all still, but he never really gets credit for it, it nor does he even want to. None of this at all stops him or deters him, except for some occasionally funny reactions.
This never really changes for him, he doesn't really earn people's approval nor does he have to, instead the stories, outside of the gags and adventures you’d expect from a comic strip, veer more towards others learning to be less judgmental and him learning ways to better approach people. He isn't any lesser than Superman just because he doesn't look like most people would want him to look and he doesn't have to look like Superman. Really I think we could use more superheroes that don’t look all so uniformly pretty.
Again, probably not a take that would work for Clark proper, but it’s one way I would take a shot at doing Superman with my own
I have other stuff in the works for this character but I'd like to keep them to better work on them for now, but yeah, these are three of my shots at developing a Pulp Superman.
Alternatively here's a fourth idea that's more pulp than all of these: Join up Nicholas Cage with Panos Cosmatos again, or whatever weird indie director he decides to pair up with next, and let them do whatever the hell they want with Superman. Give us Mandy Superman. Superman vs The Color Out of Space. Superman vs Five Nights at Freddy's. Superman’s quest to find THE LAST PIG OF KRYPTON. Anything goes.

Re: https://dramarising-replacement.tumblr.com/post/617916922335543296/so-ive-had-a-subspecies-since-september-i-noticed
TL;DR: Things are fishier than they seem, and M might actually be more of a thief than SB. At the very least, M 100% falsely accused SB of theft; at the worst, M stole SB’s idea and went on an editing spree to cover their tracks.
I don't have a tumblr so usually commenting on posts here is more trouble than it's worth, but I just have to on this one for some reason. Maybe it's because I think the entire concept of “subspecies” is stupid, maybe it's because thanks to a namedrop I could easily dig everything up... but from what I found the drama OP (M) definitely seems shady. Brace yourselves, my salty friends, for an unnecessarily long deep-dive into stupid drama (because what else are you going to spend quarantine doing?).
First, let's take a look at the timeline.
According to the original post date, the drama OP (M) created their subspecies in Dragon Share on September 13 2019. The thread has moderate activity levels up (~2 week post gaps max) until December 13 2019, when it apparently dies (barring any ghost bumping of course). The next post on the thread is made May 11 2020, when M suddenly becomes active again. M also created a new subspecies thread in Dragon Share on May 9 2020 at 13:05 FR (exact times will become relevant later on); it seems the posts were filled in with edits made within the next couple days, as is standard. Also of note is the fact that many of M’s posts in their original thread have edits made May 9 2020 from 10:39-13:27 FR (this will be key); additionally, a majority of these edits are made on posts that contain the guidelines for the subspecies- not sales, affiliates, pinglists, etc. that would require any sort of update.
The “accused” in this case (SB) created their hatchery thread in Dragons For Sale on December 24 2019. Aside from sales/affiliate posts, no edits to the main hatchery posts were made since December 29 2019 (likely filling in from a structure laid out 5 days prior), except for on March 19 2020, when it looks like they might have converted how they list dragons for sale to be linked to a tab instead of posted/adjusted g:t ratio. In any case, I believe these particular edits do not really play a big role on the overall timeline and drama, same as M's edits on their new thread. For a user that describes themselves as “barely active”, they do a decent job at bumping posts, with ~1 week between bumps except for 2 spans of ~1 month: from Feb-Mar, and after a short bout of bumping, from Mar-Apr.
The drama begins when M makes their post on SB’s hatchery thread May 09 2020 at 10:10 FR, which is edited less than a minute later (maybe a typo correction?). So here’s the timeline all pieced together:
September 13, 2019 – M creates the subspecies
December 13, 2019 – M seemingly goes inactive on their thread
December 24, 2019 – SB creates their hatchery thread
peace, until…
May 09, 2020 @10:10 – M accuses SB of “stealing” their idea on SB’s hatchery thread
May 09, 2020 @10:39 – M edits their subspecies requirement post
May 09, 2020 @13:05 – M creates a new subspecies thread
May 09, 2020 @13:14 – M edits their old subspecies main post
May 09, 2020 @13:21 – M edits a post about ‘Queen’ variant(?) requirements on their old thread (Important)
May 09, 2020 @13:27 – M edits a post showing examples of ‘Queen’ variants on their old thread (Important)
~BONUS~ May 12, 2020 – people start defending M on SB’s hatchery thread. The posts weren’t exactly the nicest, so who knows if they’ll still be around by the time this gets out of the queue
Ok, I know what you’re all thinking- what does all this mean? How is this shady?? For that, we will have to dive a bit more into the content of the posts to put some context to that timeline; but first, let’s take a look at the threads and see if the theft accusation is accurate.
M’s old subspecies thread:
Messy layout/design. Links are left as ugly long URLs, but most importantly… there is no consistency on what the subspecies design is! In the main post, no colors are listed, but the genes are specified to be Slime/Lionfish, Sludge/Bee, and Capsule. In their next post on the subspecies requirements, genes are listed as Slime, Sludge/Bee, Capsule- no Lionfish to be found! Color specifications are kept vague, with only a Honey tert required, though they do also lay out 4 specific named variations using Amber/Amber, Amber/Gold, Lemon/Gold, and Lemon/Lemon. The post with the ‘Queen’ requirements lists genes of Slime/Hex/Capsule, with no colors specified except for the same 4 variants made earlier.
M’s new subspecies thread:
Still a work in progress, but looks to be pretty much identical to the previous thread; the only main change is that banner is replaced with an original (credited!!) logo (good job on that, M). The main post specifies genes of Slime, Sludge/Bee, and Capsule. The color rule examples post contain the subspecies and the ‘Queen’ variant (Slime/Hex/Capsule), and include some additional variants as well- ‘Crystallized’ (Bee sec), ‘Wasp’ (Lionfish prim), Pollenators[sic] (Glimmer tert), and ‘Hornets’ (Pinstripe/Sludge/Glimmer).
So if you’ve been paying attention, M’s ~super special unique subspecies~ has color requirements of “anything honey-like” (while also having 4 specific color combinations) and a combination of random genes in addition to the “official” genes thanks to the addition of “variants” that have nothing to do with the original Slime/Sludge/Capsule premise. The only consistency seems to be Honey tert.
SB’s hatchery thread:
Aside from some hard-to-read colors used, has nice formatting. Lists 6 pairs, which are strictly either Amber/Amber or Grapefruit/Grapefruit, with a small range of matching terts for each pair (not necessarily encompassing Honey). 5 pairs give primarily Slime/Hex (+small gem gene chance), and 1 is Slime/Sludge. As far as terts go, 2 have terts weighted towards Capsule, 1 is Capsule/Runes, 1 is Opal/Glimmer, and 1 is Glimmer. So primarily Slime/Hex/assorted, in an xxy Amber/Grapefruit+assorted.
So to put that all together:
M’s claim of subspecies “theft” would really ONLY pertain to their ‘Queen’ variant, not their main subspecies (only 1 of SB’s pairs has a 50% chance at making M’s subspecies). In addition, the range built into SB’s pairs violate the only seemingly consistent rule of M’s subspecies: a Honey tert. The only argument for “theft” would pertain to the gene combo of Slime/Hex, which appears in 5 of SB’s pairs and M's ‘Queen’ variant (though again, SB’s pairs do not have the right tert color/gene most of the time!).
Now, do you remember that timeline? After accusing SB of “stealing” their idea (presumably for the ‘Queen’ variant), what did M immediately do? They went back to their thread and specifically edited the posts pertaining to the requirements for the subspecies and the ‘Queen’ variant! It’s theoretically even possible that the ‘Queen’ variant didn’t even formally exist when SB made their hatchery- all the dragons mentioned/posted in M’s thread are the standard Slime/Sludge/Capsule subspecies, and 3 of the registered dragons of the ‘Queen’ variant were bred in January (well after SB started their hatchery), with 1 other dragon acquired from untraceable sellers at some point (likely around the same time as it is the parent of the other 3). You might even say that perhaps M “stole” the idea for the ‘Queen’ from SB… M also posted the proof themselves in the OP that they use shady edits to change the narrative in their favor- SB specifically mentions this in the screenshots after calling out M for removing their link, who then backs it up by claiming they were “project” dragons; yet M placed them in the “Completed breeders” tab, which was hastily edited to now include “Breeders that need gene alterations”, a shady move that SB commented on and M decided to post proof of for some reason lol.
So if this is true, and M accused SB of stealing their idea, then raced to edit their posts to create a narrative to justify their claims… why would they do it? My theory is simple: an honest mistake combined with jealousy. There are only 12 registered dragons listed on both the old and new subspecies threads, half of which are owned by M. On the other hand, SB’s hatchery lists 22 dragons sold, only 1 of which is exalted. Now I don’t know anything about hatcheries, but I think that is a decent amount for just under 5 months of sales, especially when taking into account the periods of seeming inactivity. I think that M either went on hiatus or forgot/gave up on the subspecies back in December, before SB created their hatchery. SB then created their hatchery, using similar (but definitely not the same!) ideas. Time passed, and one day when browsing the sale forum M comes across SB’s thread. Seeing SB’s hatchery have the popularity they never had, combined with poor memory of the details of their subspecies after such a long time had passed, M comments mistakenly accusing SB of theft. However, not long after they find their old thread, and realize that SB isn’t at all copying their Slime/Sludge/Capsule xxy Amber-ish/Honey, and rush to make the edits needed to tidy up their claims. In the process, they quickly realize it’d be best to just start a new thread altogether, as the current thread was a mess and had no more reserved space past the ‘Queen’ variant (which may have been reserved/lore space before M covered their tracks). Far less sinisterly, perhaps M continued their subspecies idea after abandoning the thread, and after accusing SB they realized that they never actually officially updated their subspecies.
But who’s to say? There might not be a smoking gun one way or the other, but there’s enough circumstantial evidence to say M doesn’t look as innocent as they sound. As far as SB’s response, it was definitely out of line and way too harsh. But you’ve also gotta admit you’d be pretty peeved if you had been peacefully minding your own business for months and suddenly someone comes in out of the blue, wrongfully accuses you of being a thief, demands you give them credit for all your hard work, then proceeds to buy your dragons to make them part of their “rightful” hatchery, erasing any mention of you as just another slap in the face. From looking at the dragons they’ve sold, SB doesn’t really seem to care what happens to them- genes have been changed, links have been removed, no drama that I can see. It really seems like they are reacting more to M’s shadiness over the whole deal than anything else. That said, nobody likes being namecalled, so SB’s parting remark wasn’t right even if they were wrongly accused of theft.

“i had a dream about the Borderlands are Yours trailer last night for like the 7th time so i guess i ought to do the analysis before i have a breakdown”
find the trailer here
~discussion of the cloth map spoilers occurs in here, but nothing else. if you’re worried about those spoilers do not read~
non-spoiler tl;dr: we discuss why rhys’s head implant is yellow instead of blue in this one particular scene and also go thru a bunch of theories as to what tf is up with Zer0. and some other stuff about giant space lasers
so the intro is pretty much the same as the we are mayhem trailer so we’re gonna ignore that since we figured out where sanc-iii was
pretty sure this scene has been shown already too, in the official announce trailer, i remember taking note of the pink shots
another cov camp on pandora (see elpis in the back). ive said it before and ill say it again i adore amara’s as animations
seen this a bajillion times as well
from we are mayhem near the end. also im still lowkey convinced that robot directly to the right of moze is jakobs. i know i’m probably wrong but... i want to believe. it reminds me of a cowboy
The Are. this is directly below Sanc-III (u can see the wall in the background)
eden-6!!! im interested in the signs in the back there
Prison, Reliance, Jakobs Estate, and... amoe kyuri??? wtf does this say?? idek.
This A Way (glad to know Claptrap will haunt us from beyond Sanc-III)
im interested in the Prison. i wonder if that’s any of those concrete structures/buildings we’ve been seeing across eden-6. i was under the assumption those were like testing facilities, but a prison would also make a whole hell of a lot of sense.
actually
given this sign here over the bridge to the left of the above shot
and the fact we see this concrete structure on the far left in this coming shot
that might actually make some lick of sense...
also can i just say i love the aesthetic of this supply line
so there’s a lot of shots here we’ve already seen and gone over multiple times, im not going to do that again. sorry but... eh.
maliwan = cultists confirmed
i mean if the cult-themed t-shirts being maliwan colored didn’t already cue us in on that, this definitely should lol
and speaking of this shot, i wonder if this has anything to do with Rhys’s building? the one his office would be in. it looks like there are multiple levels to the right of this robo
ah maliwan working with the cult why am i not surprised
rhys gets fucking annihilated (TM)
in all honesty... given this quest name
“Space-Laser Tag” and the subsequent quest “Atlas, At Last” makes me honestly think rhys is about to seriously get fucked up
which sucks. i like rhys. we’ll talk more about this in a second, but i don’t think its coincidence the VHs have come up to the asteroid belt to stop the giant space laser and thus are not on Promethea where the laser is going to hit
better look at this shot, that definitely looks like a rampager to me. i get it, i think. gearbox is hyping up this rampager fight to be super awesome, show it in all the promotional material, have a kickass fight with it, then the twins come in and steal the kill from you. they steal the satisfaction from getting to kill this super hyped-up vault monster.
im picking up what you’re putting down, GB.
did not realize fl4k actually snaps. how the heck do they do that?? gotta be hard with metal caps as their fingers tbh
404 space station not found
we’re back on the asteroid
... why this gun shoot tentacles :|
this is art
wheres his head going
i was so distracted by the razor blade status effect (??? zeroes??) i didn’t notice the giant-ass A on this banner
OwO what’s this for
~A~
also this which... looks like it could be an amara skill. maybe the one that releases elemental projectiles after an enemy is damaged? feel like we would’ve seen that one already tho.
thinking of this one, im pretty sure we should’ve seen this in one of the many, many gameplay videos (im so jealous) already available.
so if it is, baller, if it’s not, im not too surprised.
it does also seem to be targeting the double cause its shield becomes visible after being hit
i thiiink this is eden-6? in which case it may be that facility tina, brick, and mordy are in (the windows). which may, in retrospect, be that prison we’ve been hearing about
cool angle of the HBC. im pretty sure we’ve seen this shot before, too.
before we get to the actual best part of this scene
this looks very Athenas-like. possibly eridian? although the lights are throwing me off. i suppose the order or someone from the order could’ve built these structures... but what for??
heheheh
also this fucker has those rocks growing out of his head, too
the ones from the alien guns
somewhere outside the RC
back at it again in the space station
also this maliwan thing looks so fucking cool
duuuude looks like the cult got their hands on more than just maliwan hoverwheels, check out that dropship on the left!!! looking cool asf
the cars are STUNNING
holy shit this skin is amazing
very siren-esque
we’ve gone over this clip already but given now that we know the maliwan base thing is on the asteroid, it’s fitting to re-address it i think
a look at one of the metal bois (that im still convinced are jakobs lol)
i love the way this thing looks
the portal seems to be giving off the same blue sparkles we’ve seen on pandora
these
[edit] we also see them in the newest new trailer as Sanc-III zooms off into space. which is interesting.
dunno wtf that means, but yeah. they exist
probably some weird eridian/other dimension shit.
more eden-6
goliath looking amazing. not red and is wearing a helmet, so that’s interesting
looks like a part of the space station
biggggg hallway. im honestly loving how huge these maps seem to be
geniviv! i love her boss fight sooo fucking much.
honestly looks like so much fun
more c a r s
this fucker
probably eridian
i mean it seems to be absorbing the pink-ish energy from the moving stones so i assume its got some sort of link going on
also comparing the mask and arm bit to what we’ve seen rhys hand us on promethea
this thing???
but yellow instead of pink
u kno all this
ye
then again it does sorta ruin the eridian tech so maybe... it’s not lol
honestly my other guess is this is part of that ‘experimental forest’ we’ve seen signs for during the eden-6 demo. dunno why it’s destroying the eridian ruins tho. maybe those pink b e a m s are hurting it? entirely possible. some sorta... life succ ability like Tyreen.
but i don’t think it’s coincidence this thing has shown up right on top of some Eridian ruins/buildings/whatever. the leftmost part though looks like it could be human technology, which is weird. maybe some weird sort of mish mash. human tech that trees/plants grew onto and eridian ruins accidentally powered up. iunno man. im tiored.
rhys’s implant is glowing orange/yellow-ish which is very new
this is from the dev trailer (not glowing at all in the darkness)
from the promethea twitter trailer
and honestly that’s pretty wild to me because in tftbl rhys’s implant glows blue
shown when he’s in the vault next to fiona
in bl3 during the We Are Mayhem trailer while using his ECHO eye
oh also since i just noticed
from the promethea demo
this scene
also from the promethea demo
they’re missing their monomolecular edge!
we’ll get back to zer0 in a secco
anyway you know who else’s head implant glows?
im not saying katagawa is replacing rhys because their implants are on opposite sides of their heads, but i am saying Katagawa WANTS Rhys in Maliwan and... well, Rhys’s forehead implant isn’t glowing yellow in any other shot we see of him
idk gamers i just think its sus
also rhys is holding onto that thing we see him handing to us in the Promethea trailer
this thing?? you know?
the eridian thingie majig
tho these look like two different areas... unless there’s like a very drastic wall change between angles (which there may be- these fans look identical)
which makes sense that Maliwan would want it (for the big laser thing maybe?? since we know they’re going for activating said laser)
... but honestly i get the feeling this is in some way related to... after the laser. especially since we know that that eridian thingie matches up with this one on pandora
in which case... wtf is the laser for? it definitely looks like its destroying stuff on the surface...
rhys also seems to have knowledge about the eden-6 vault key since he projects it during the dev trailer
me thinks someone got h a c k e r o n i e d
alright galaxy brain theory time:
rhys gets hacked by maliwan not only bc they want a merger, but also because he has info on the vaults/giant space laser, forces zer0 to be maliwan branded now since atlas is joining maliwan, zer0 finds out rhys is not willingly joining maliwan and is instead under maliwan control and tries to forcibly take the key away from him, we stop zer0 and save rhys from both the assassin and maliwan control
🤷♂️
Alright but in all seriousness there’s only 2 ways this can go
1. that’s actually our zer0
2. that’s actually not our zer0
and there’s a lot of theories running around about that and i guess we ought to address them
so for 1 there’s a few possibilities:
1. zer0 is a robo/cyborg and got hacked by maliwan (i personally don’t like this one bc i don’t want to know what zer0 actually is. it is a ~m y s t e r y~)
2. zer0 got paid more money to eliminate rhys and is doing so
3. zer0 decided killing their boss would be the ultimate challenge and thus decided to try it out... by joining maliwan
4. they’re faking rhys’s death and/or zer0 is infiltrating maliwan
5. zer0 got the brainwashed/their bodysuit got hacked (i would be interested to see if the monomolecular edge tech caused them to get captured or smth. i mean if there’s a tracker on it, then zer0′s decepti0n wouldn’t exactly work cuz they turn invisible... but they’d still be seen)
6. rhys got the brainwashed/hacked and zer0 is attacking him to get the eridian thingie/key/relic/whatever back
personally i’m curious how they’d play off 1-3 given Zer0 and Rhys are both shown on sanc-iii and zer0 even has crew challenges
im saying idk if the crimson raiders would appreciate zer0 attacking/trying to kill an ally without very good reason.
which is why i’d imagine 4-6 are the more reasonable answers?
also given the explosion of Promethea (what we’re assuming is Promethea) is green and also the laser we see maliwan controlling is purple, i wonder if that’s some brainwashing juice instead of... other stuff. cuz like.
this is elpis’s giant space laser. very radiant and like... ribbon-y? and has all that blue stuff and orbs and mm.
THIS is Promethea’s very solid and has circles and just. looks straight up like a death laser.
and yeah again it could be modified by that human-looking (?) tech around it to be like a brainwashing b e a m or something
or just more precise. that too.
and honestly idk if this could destroy a planet like how we see the planet (that we are assuming is promethea bc of the asteroid belt) in the sanc-iii article
it’s a solid ‘yeah that’s more likely than my theory’. might take a lot of time tho. or maybe those energy rings power it up or deal more damage when they hit the planet...
oh also given Tina literally says “WE blowing up this whole mother humpa”
and the reason im questioning the human-looking tech around it is because
typhon and leda 100% noticed something here. i guess if it was altered by humans after typhon and leda found it then that would make sense?
we’ve also got this from the tree guy, so i don’t know for certain.
anyway number 2
(2. that’s actually not our zer0)
i love these ones
1. that’s 0ne (zer0′s assassin’s assassin from the son of crawmerax dlc)
2. maliwan made a/hired a copy of zer0 and it’s easy to copy their voice/way of speech bc of the modulator (that’s just a fake implanted into atlas to steal all their secrets)
and all of these have the idea that the real zer0 shows up to save rhys at the end of this scene (explaining the blue light)
this
i personally disagree on that being zer0′s sword. tbh it looks more like a maliwan weapon or a laser or smth to me. that said it could be a weird effect because they’re in decepti0n or smth.
most of these theories have the idea that the real zer0 is either off with Fiona or Lorelei or just off on their own and only show up later. i wouldn’t even be surprised, given their line at the end of Tales. you know the one where they diss rhys like “i was talking to her” lol
so i don’t really have much to add to these. personally i believe that’s our zer0 up there, but i wouldn’t be shocked if something happened with the monomolecular edge that allowed maliwan to create a copy of zer0. or brainwash/control them. whichever.
i do like the reintegration of 0ne into the story, that’d be a hilarious call-back, but i worry it’d be too obscure (a side quest in a headhunter dlc) for the majority of players. we’ll see
it’s weird if brainwashing or mind controlling thru the maliwan tech is the case bc the monomolecular edge isn’t present on their maliwan sword. or their future sanc-iii sword (but that part DOES make sense bc why would they keep that).
(alright also so i just took a bunch of nyquil cuz im sick as a dog so if this devolves into incoherent rambling im so sorry)
ah aurelia
i love her to bits but i don’t trust her because i mean... she worked alongside Nisha and Wilhelm and Alistair dislikes her. there’s like a 50-50 shot she’ll become evil
i would not be surprised if this is a boss fight (door looks frozen over on the left there) but also i would not be surprised if she’s helping us fight off waves of enemies given it looks like we’re in the jakobs manor
like i said 50-50
her attack does make the camera wiggle a bit, usually that happens if the attack injures the player viewing it (with the hud off) cuz it will give a stagger effect
so take that with a grain of salt. also we don’t see aurelia on sanc-iii when hammerlock and wainwright are both there in the group shot in the launch trailer
this fucker i already talked about a bunch in my reddit post on the eridium subject so im going to link that here. i might have already spoken about it on here tbh... i can’t remember lol
anyway here’s the copy and paste from there to here
you can see a huge Tink with Eridium growing out of his head and what look to be Eridium horns. And he's being elementally charged from an Eridian floor tile (in one of those temples, probably the Pandoran one but it could be Athenas, I guess). Kind of like how Bloodwing (also bigger) becomes elementally charged by Jack using element-throwers to change her element. i know it's a cultist tink because on his right shoulder (our left) he has those glow-y pink/purple tubes that are on the CoV guns and other cultists (like goliaths). and while i'm not sure if this is solely Eridian stuff (since they're in a temple) or because of the twins, it's definitely something that should be talked about.
wait no yeah i did talk about this because of the athenas post. i just remembered lol
uhhh whoops. double dipping i guess lol sorry
still not sure if this is Pandora or Athenas. kind leaning towards Pandora atm
i like how this guy is able to make a cryo wall thing
he goes to smash it but we don’t get to see what happens cuz it cuts to another rampager
dishing out corrosive/radiation (??) attacks while someone shoots it with a fire weapon
this bamf which i KNOW i discussed in that athenas post
also something i haven’t noted is that his roar seems to be activating something here, like a spiral light of dooooom. also more blue sparkles. maybe summoning an assist? or a debuff/attack aoe.
there is also this weird light near its legs that moves with the camera and sorta reminds me of the weird real-life face talky siren thing. you know the one
very curious as to what this is cause i haven’t seen it in any other scene with a rampager in it. maybe some sort of connection to the spiral/whirlwind thing it’s making?
oh wow im tired now lol
well bl3 is fully downloaded on my computer gamers, so we can officially say it’s happening!!!

Wednesday Roundup 18.7.2017
Okay, so I’m quite a bit late with this one but real life has been more than a little hectic and I had a lot to read through this week! All a joy, of course, but still lots of work on my end of things.
I should also note that I picked up Midnighter: The Complete Wildstorm Series and The Might Thor Vol. 3: Asgard/Shi’ar War but for the sake of time I won’t be including them in the Roundup because I’m still only halfway through the Midnighter collection and haven’t gotten to The Mighty Thor yet.
That all said, let’s get into the comics I did read this week!
Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, DC’s Batwoman, Image’s Descender, Image’s Lazarus: X + 66, Marvel’s Ms. Marvel, Viz’s One-Punch Man, DC’s Snickers Comic #2: The Fastest Woman Alive, DC’s Super Sons, DC’s Superman
Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows (2016-present) #9 Ryan Stegman, Gerry Conway, Juan Frigeri, Jesus Aburtov
Okay so this comic just continues to hit my every button and provide my every joy. Seriously, I have not had this much fun reading a Spider title in ages, and I didn’t realize what nostalgia that held for me until I went and watched Spider-Man Homecoming yesterday and realized that as excited as I was about that movie and all it was doing, I was really thinking about all the possibilities it could hold for this universe and a future Spider-Family.
I really loved this comic fo providing a lot of drama that is uniquely present for a family comic and a dynamic of a couple that is established and used to being open and honest with each other. There was humor but there was also plenty of tension which all arose from wanting things to work out because we knew what dynamic, what love and devotion, had been at risk.
And I love that MJ is flawed but also still very much a powerful and full of possibilities in her own way. Her will power was rooted in asserting her identity as a wife, mother, and business woman all in one and I love that.
In any case, more and more this is becoming my Spider-Family at the end of the day and I love it so very much
DC’s Batwoman (2017-present) #5 Marguerite Bennett, James Tynion IV, Stephanie Hans
In recent years I’ve become more and more outspoken about the fact that I am a lesbian and that at least part of the reason such media representation sticks out to me so much is because of that perspective I have, which has been equally difficult and rewarding for me in that time. Part of that experience has been coming to terms with the idea that I needed media that helped me equate my experience with what I had seen in media for so long being declared “normal.”
And now, as I have matured as a person and as someone growing comfortable with who I am, my tastes have come to gravitate toward desiring to see not just the normalization of my experience, but the acknowledgement that the struggles and the stories of the LGBT experience are inherently different and they are stories that deserve to be told on their own.
And more than anything, I feel like the reason Batwoman and Kate Kane have been so important to me personally is because since Rucka’s Batwoman: Elegy, it feels like it’s as important to Kate’s storytelling to be about her experience as a lesbian as it is about her being a superhero, and that means so much to me. And I feel like this story, even if entirely a flashback, truly tapped into that desire for me.
Image’s Descender (2015-present) #22 Jeff Lemire, Dustin Nguyen
Descender is back and I still can’t tell if I like or deeply loathe Doctor Quon as a character yet lol But oh man. Tim-22′s death was about as brutal as they come. Like. Yikes wasn’t expecting to see someone Mortal Kombat’d in this comic and yet here we are. Now the question is whether or not the doctor will get his head out of his ass and save Telsa.
It’s fascinating to see how all of these elements are coming together --- really colliding on course more than anything else right now, and I sincerely was not expecting that ending. The question of what that ending means o course is something else -- did they destroy the Machine Moon to take out the fleet of starships? What about Andy and his ragtag crew? It’s hard to tell with the cliffhanger.
...
And speaking of hard to tell.... It’s easy to criticize art without giving credit for the immense work that goes into it or the opinion of style or just anything else that goes into good comic art, and as a long time fan of Dustin Nguyen I don’t want it to seem like I don’t see just how much work is going into Descender and especially into producing an entire comic in water color of all mediums. The texture alone makes it feel real and palatable in a way that few comics can maintain.
But those rough edges and soft colors feel as though they play against the the story being told in Descender, at least from what it’s been so far. For such a hard sci-fi world with so many characters that are robotic, full of hard angles, and sharpness, the gentleness of the water colors and lack of lineart feels like it’s working against the aesthetic entirely. I mean, we have an entire plot dedicated to one of the species in this series being robotic after all. So it feels disconnected.
I can still appreciate the art, but as we go further into this narrative I wonder if it’ll continue to work against what’s trying to be conveyed.
Image’s Lazarus: X + 66 (2017-present) #1 (of 6) Greg Rucka, Eric Trautmann, Michael Lark, Steve Lieber, Santi Arcas, Jodi Wynne
So this series hadn’t actually been on my radar and I lucked out into happening across it on Wednesday and am so glad I did!
I’ve gone into great depth on these reviews before about how much I love Lazarus and how much I love the wold which Rucka has built for it, but we have for the most part had a very limited view of that world, and it’s one that doesn’t graze a lot of the more horrible elements of it for the lowest people in the society’s system. Which makes it that much more satisfying to have a series which is going to follow a familiar character, Casey Solomon, and the brutality and treatment she suffers as a result of living in those lower rungs.
She’s working her way up through the military in a way we never witnessed through the Carlyle family’s lenses and I am enjoying what we’ve seen so far.
I’m curious to see that a second plotter/writer is credited for this issue. I’m not familiar with Eric Trautmann and I think it’s interesting that Lazarus has gotten to the point that Rucka is letting other voices in on what’s essentially been his and Michael Lark’s “baby” for several years now. It’s very interesting to see what Image is going to do with its properties that are truly blasting off critically and popularity wise and makes me wonder if they will attempt to expand with others like Saga or Zodiac Starforce.
Marvel’s Ms. Marvel (2015-present) Vol. 7: Damage Per Second G. Willow Wilson, Mirka Andolfo, Takeshi Miyazawa, Ian Herring
I don’t know how many times it can be said, and I don’t know how many ways it can be said, but Ms. Marvel is genuinely one of the most important comics -- one of the most important characters and stories -- to be told in my generation and for the generation below me.
Volume Seven continues to show that there is just a unique and unbreakable bond between this creative team, the character, and everything this series has come to represent as a result that simply cannot be overstated.
The acceptance of so many different sexualities, genders, religions, lifestyles, and more makes for a powerful read and yet does not overwhelm the story. It’s just an organic part of the daily struggles of Kamala’s life. And even though Wilson and company are obviously not teenagers themselves, they utilize the present time and the technology and culture of the present to an effect that makes this comic entirely unique.
Kamala is a nerd with nerdy friends and all of them face an unspeakable threat when technology is used as a weapon. It’s obviously expanded and overblown to comic tradition within this story, but it must be remembered that teenagers today are dealing with an unprecedented threat that is technology being used to hone in on them, to bully them even at their homes, and to release information or content that they had taken for granted as being private.
It’s been a great ride and I’m so grateful to see Ms. Marvel continue to rise to every occasion.
Viz’s One-Punch Man (2012-present) Vol. 12 ONE, Yusuke Murata
It’s amazing how One-Punch Man manages to make me both completely excited and sitting on the edge of my seat to see how conventions of the Shonen genre are going to be subverted, manages to not subvert them but play them completely straight, and yet still make me completely interested in what’s going to come next. It’s honestly pretty hysterical which, of course, is exactly one OPM is for. The humor built into the naked look at the genre is built off of how ONE seems to understand that he needs to play the genre and characters and just general world building around Saitama as being played completely straight.
And I think it’s honestly getting deeper by this volume even though we still have Saitama hilariously not caring at all what’s going on around him and even using the bathroom on panel rather than watch his opponents’ battles. We have other characters who are laying out the sort of fridge horror elements of any Shonen series out there for us: by this world being constructed around strength and strength alone, nature weeds out the weak.
The horrifying element of this world is less to do with the idea that violent, increasingly difficult to stop monsters are showing up, but that power and strength of “ordinary” people can be so unevenly given to others, given to people who don’t care or who even aspire to be monstrous themselves, is handed out. It’s a benevolent gift to those like Saitama whose morality and boredom seems to skew rationality to comedic effect, but with characters with less of a moral center and without a Genos to keep them to the very idea of one are the source of real horror and destruction.
After all, what do you deal with when you have an unstoppable Shonen protagonist archetype who is not interested in their roll? Is it worse to have someone comedically indifferent, or to have someone who is horrifyingly aware of their superiority?
DC’s Snickers Comic (2017) #2: The Fastest Woman Alive Stuart Moore, Paco Diaz
On the list of free comics I was not expecting to either come out or to actually be read by me, I have to say that a Snickers promotional comic was not anywhere on that highly specific radar of mine. And yet here we are.
And we’re here for one reason and one reason only: JESSE QUICK.
I love the extended Flash family very much and there has been a hole in my heart for a long time for my Ace Babe in Tights (and yes there’s plenty of good evidence for her being asexual prior to her character derailment in Titans (1996-2002)). And she’s honestly a legacy character I half expected to never see again.
And yeah it’s a silly little comic but it was free and it was fun and Kara and Jesse have this great, competitive yet loving relationship that is well worth it.
Plus Superfam racing Flashfam is a tradition and it’s about time that these awesome ladies were allowed in on it.
DC’s Super Sons (2017-present) #6 Peter J. Tomasi, Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez
Super Sons continues to be one of the crowning gems at DC right now. There is very little it doesn’t understand about balancing its characterizations, light-heartedness, and really letting kids feel the gravity of being a superhero without being too dark or selective. And while I maintain my earlier criticism from Superman that Tomasi has a habit of making Jon a little too perfect and very un-kidlike, the hard contrast with Damian is what makes reading Super Sons so entertaining and fun.
And I love how the superheroics that make Jon proud of himself as a superhero contrast so starkly with what Damian thinks being a superhero is, and it doesn’t bother Jon until he gets left behind as the “kid” too young and immature to go with the Teen Titans, even though it’s Damian who isn’t really showing a great aptitude at the moment.
It’s a fun if not predictable comic at times, but the joy that is obviously poured into Super Sons and is helping advance the characters far beyond what they once were in this canon is well worth coming back to.
DC’s Superman (2016-present) #27 Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason, Scott Godlewsk, Gabe Eltaeb
Well, aren’t we certainly political this week!
I’m not entirely sure where I sit with this comic. It’s a belated July 4th comic of sorts but it’s also sort of a deconstruction of the American mythology and a history lesson to people with the ultimate goal of teaching ‘you didn’t actually learn everything in history class, the same fights going on today were happening when this country was founded and visa versa.”
This might seem like my issue with the comic is that it got political, which is not the case at all. In fact, considering the iconography of Superman to America and how “Fighting for Truth, Justice, and the American Way” has been a Superman staple for longer than most comic book readers have been alive makes me feel like the apolitical nature of most Superman comics these days feels strangely untrue to expectations.
My problem is more... logistical?
I thought Jon actually acted just fine -- more of the excitable ten year old here who needs his eyes opened to the world around him more than we’ve gotten from the Superman book thus far. My problem is... so they’re still living in Hamilton in Superman, but they’re already moved to Metropolis in Super Sons. Both are written by the same people, so what gives with the inconsistency.
We spent the first year of this comic and all the Super titles for that matter, harmonizing and collapsing continuities so things made more sense. Can we agree at least where everyone lives in the current comics?
Alright, so there’s quite a lot of variety here (isn’t that always the way with my pull list?) but when it comes to the pick of the week it has to be down to what gave me the most joy per panel overall, what I found the most rewarding and satisfying. And honestly I have to give that honor to Ms. Marvel, which is a comic that never fails to perform even greater than already lofty expectations for it. It’s a beautiful title and a great read that I encourage everyone to try.
Since Ms. Marvel is a collected volume, though, if you want my pick for best single issue for me this week I’d go with Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows.
But those are just my choices! What did you think about this week’s comics? Think I missed something I should’ve picked up? I’d love to hear from you.
Once again, before I end entirely, I’d like to ask that if you’re interested in helping me out with making more time for content like my reviews, and for access to reviews in the future which won’t be hosted on this blog like my in progress review of Spider-Man Homecoming (2017), please help me and my aspiring start up comic career by contributing to my Patreon! I couldn’t thank you enough for the help.
Please become my patron on patreon for more alliterative begging like this!

gonna post that thing i wrote about my abusive ex, this isnt a callout but its just like, all the shit ive been wanting to say and havent felt like i could. gonna namedrop people, gonna not give a fuck, i cant cw for everything but there are rape mentions, physical assault mentions and like. general feelings that happen the wake of emotional abuse.
i dont check often but my ex has deleted the blog she was currently using, (@windowpainter or somethng. she was @hamgubber before, previously @miniaturehorse if anybody remembers from when we were totgether and would post on each others blogs nonstop lol) she has a history of lurking around and worming her way into befriending popular people in online subcommunities i am part of or adjacent to. i have not spoken to her since i realized she was abusive and started to try to pull out of our codependent dynamic. she panicked when i realized actions speak louder than words and her long winded apologies, excuses, and textbookish tripe about DBT and getting better or whatever meant nothing in the face of months of repeated lying, breaking of promises, degradation, disrespect to me as a person, disregard of my physical disabilities, insults, patronization, manipulation, multiple instances of cheating, antagonization, neglect, extortion and overall emotional abuse. when she caught wind that i was going to leave her she wrote me a series of emails totaling over 30,000 words, all varying from "i love you please dont leave me we can work this out. breaking up with me is weak." to "you are not a victim. you are not a victim. here is a categorized list of the ways in which you are abusive while i downplay my own behaviors and patronize you. here's an ultimatum and you are not allowed to respond with more than one sentence." to which i disregarded and wrote up a long, thoughtful reply and chose to never send, ending contact with her for good. this was like, 2013 or 2014.
she never called me out, and i never called her out despite giving very serious consideration to it. i was listening to the advice of my therapist at the time, who told me that she thrives on drama and spends her life constantly creating it, and to give her that kind of attention was exactly what she wanted and would only engage her more in my life and be more degrading to my mental health. the best course of action was to give her nothing, and not give her any more power or influence over me, any footholds or any more of my time, consideration, energy or thought. if anybody reading this has endured emotional abuse from somebody you love, you know it is extremely difficult to totally ignore somebody like this, especially when that person has isolated you from the majority of your support system and friends and you have shaped your entire identity around your relationship with your abuser. but i have followed my therapists advice. i have been working on moving on.
still, over the past few years ive had my mutuals contacted by her friends and told to stop talking to me. ive had people i follow put her and her friends on my dash, which up until recently would send me into a panic that lasted several hours. i have a lot of people in the lesbian/commie/leftist/trans/etc/whatever circles on tumblr who just like randomly have me blocked for no reason (since i dont give a fuck and im going for a spirit of total honesty here, ill name drop @butchcommunist, who she dated for a period of time iirc. a lot of my followeds and mutuals reblog from her. i made a point not to check either of their blogs after finding out but it was upsetting since i would see julia all over my dash. that connection still exists in my mind and its pretty upsetting.). ultimately, and rationally i know that these things do not matter that much. i have a vibrant, healthy and loving circle of friends outside of the internet/tumblr and some randos on the internet having me blocked doesn't really mean anything in the scheme of things. still, when this shit happened it felt terrifying and i was horrified, my emotions magnified by the effects of emotional abuse. despite my VERY intense urge for closure, i try to keep as far away from her as possible.
i gave this woman a year of my life that in my memory is defined by her. i was very madly in love and i spent countless hours at her beck and call, countless hours in calls and in text conversations with her, countless hours supporting her through breakdowns, countless hours talking through her fears and worries, countless hours defending her when she stirred up drama, countless hours defending her horrible behavior to my friends, countless hours rationalizing her abuse to myself and people who approached me with worry, countless hours loving her and wondering why it felt so horrifically painful to be with somebody who told you they wanted to spend the rest of their life with you. almost all the money i was making at the time was spent on her. i helped her move across the continent. i had her at my house for weeks. she fucking took out a loan from my mom. despite how big a role she played in my life, over the past 3 years since our falling out i have only checked her blog less times than i can count on my fingers, usually in moments of distress and in the spirit of self-destruction.
i know for a fact she has convinced her friends to check my blog for her god knows how many times, telling them about her fear of me as a 'dangerous person', that i’m going to call her out, her "fear" that im obsessing over her and am quietly plotting to ruin her life. she's scared for a good reason, but not because i'm an abusive bitter ex out on a smear campaign to slander her innocent name and ruin her life in the name of revenge. she's scared because she knows i have some undeniably serious receipts on her. i have receipts of her sending me a horrifying letter her ex had written her describing a graphic instance of a time my ex had raped her, and of her admitting outright to the rape. i have logs of her checking her rape victim's blog and telling me how exasperated she was her victim was still angry with her even after she apologized, and couldn't understand why her victim was stuck on her and wouldnt move on, going on to blame modern feminism and its tendency to portray abusers and rapists as incorrigible. i have receipts of her admitting to perpetrating emotional and physical abuse in her previous relationships, like an instance where she describes losing control of herself and beating her ex senselessly. i have talked with exes, who confirm stories she had told me where she would cut her arms in her presence, deep enough that her life was at risk, and then refuse to go to the hospital, leaving her girlfriend to either bandage and tend to her wounds or else my ex would bleed out and die. those are just the more horrific ones. i have many receipts that document her emotional abuse towards me as well, which im barely even getting into here. i know plenty of other people have experiences with her and accounts of interacting with her that undeniably portrays her as a serial abuser, rapist, and extortionist and exposes the falsehood of her charming and intelligent persona.
several times i have considered calling her out because she has proven herself beyond a doubt that she is a serial abuser who leaves a trail of burning bridges in her wake. i have no doubts that the evidence i have against her is completely solid, and her claims of my status as an abuser that she perpetuates to her friends are built on pillars of sand. i am not afraid of anything she could bring to the table anymore. i have spoken quite a bit with exes and ex friends (some of which sided with her during our breakup and who eventually ended up cutting off, and we reconnected with years after), and they all suggest the same shit. she is manipulative to her very core and will not stop hurting and using people until she dies.
these are big claims and again, this isn't a callout and the reason im not providing the logs is because im just trying to get out my thoughts in an honest way and im not trying to make a case about anything. this is cathartic. im so fucking tired of feeling like its a secret. i dont even know what blog shes using or whatever and while that scares me, i don't care anymore. people who are still semi-big names in the online communities i drift around in still have me blocked and a lot of times i wish i could message them and tell them "hey, you know she's wrong, and i have absolute proof." but my self worth is high enough that i dont need to go around convincing every single rando who doesn't like me that im a good person, not to mention the risk of indirect contact through those who's lives she is still present in.
for a long time the way i coped was by holding onto the idea that she would apologize to me, and i could finally have closure. she apologized to the ex i mentioned earlier, and because of that i hoped she would grow enough as a person to realize that there is literally no way any rational being could look at our relationship and say that, yeah, i was the one hurting her. apparently thats too much credit to give her, and i realize she only apologized to her ex because she wanted me to think she was changing, growing and a good person at heart who just had a rough past. after enough time, enough conversations with people who she was previously close to, i have accepted that she will never truly dedicate herself to getting better. she will always be using people, always be hurting people, always lying, always hypocritical, always disingenuous and always covering her ass by hiding under the language of victimhood, trauma, recovery, self-improvment, DBT, and therapy to convince her victims that her offences are missteps in her journey to improvement.
this isn't a callout, this isn't meant to be circulated as a warning, this isn't meant to be any sort of vengeance or crusade. i dont even think shes fuckin on tumblr anymore lol. i don't care anymore. i dont care what people take this as. this is me writing an honest, open, reflective, cathartic processing of the scenario that impacted my teenage years so severely. this isnt concise or well written and i dont need it to be. i've spent too many years wanting to talk about this, needing to process it more openly, but being riddled with horrific anxiety and fear, worrying about her and her social influence and her ability to impact my life. but its been a long time. ive worked hard at this. ive worked hard to get past this. ive worked hard to learn how to be with people who will treat me with kindness. i needed to write this and i needed to post this without editing every sentence a thousand times. this is largely unedited. i dont care if this makes me look pathetic or obsessed with her ive been letting these feelings stir for years and im just ready to breathe again.
if you want to talk about this post DM me or whatever. if you know her and think its all bullshit and you want logs, sure. i dont have anything to hide anymore. her name is viv and she is the worst person i have ever met and i feel sorry that i gave her so much of my love. thanks.

Canon EOS R vs. Canon 5D Mk IV | Which One Should You Choose?
When the Canon 5D Mk IV was initially announced, I was disappointed. While it promised improvements over the 5D Mk III in auto focus, resolution, and dynamic range, it wasn’t the revolutionary leap forward many Canon users were hoping for. It still didn’t have the industry-leading dynamic range or ISO capabilities of the newest Sony and Nikon cameras. It didn’t have a flip screen. And it wasn’t mirrorless.
Once I got my hands on one though, I realized it was a much better camera than the 5D Mk III in every way. The dual-pixel auto focus was amazing. The touch screen was extremely responsive, and I found myself rarely using the viewfinder anymore. It was a great camera, but it still left me considering jumping ship for the greener pastures of Nikon or Sony. If it weren’t for all my Canon glass, I probably would have.
Then the Canon EOS R was announced in fall 2018. I was likewise underwhelmed. When it became clear that it would only have one SD card slot, I was resigned to waiting for the “pro” version of the camera to come out in 2019. But then I decided to give it a try, mainly because I couldn’t stand not having a flip screen anymore. And it was a revelation for me. The auto focus was even better than the Mk IV with nearly 100% coverage. The flip screen allowed me to get angles I hadn’t ever considered. The EVF was quicker than I had imagined and I loved being able to see what my exposure looked like while looking through the viewfinder. But, it only had one card slot. And no joystick.
So, I decided to shoot both side by side for a couple months to see which one I used more. In what follows, I’ll break down what I love and don’t love about each and give my honest assessment after having used both cameras side by side for three months.
Design
The Canon EOS R is the most beautifully designed mirrorless camera I’ve seen, aside from a Leica. It’s small, but not too small. It fits nicely in the hand. It has a comfortable grip and is very solidly built. It looks and feels like a modern camera. The button placement is a bit flawed as I still have a tendency to hit the AF-ON button constantly when just resting my thumb on the back and I almost never use the touch thing. I’ve tried to find a use for it, but haven’t found one yet that I use regularly. I’d also prefer a flip screen that only flipped up and down instead the the fully articulating screen as I’m afraid I’m going to rip it off one of these days.
On the other hand, the 5D Mk IV looks and feels like a 5D Mk III, and a 5D Mk II, and a 5D. Seriously, Canon basically kept the same design throughout the 5D series since 2005. Can you imagine if Apple had released an iPhone in 2016 that looked and felt identical to the original iPhone? It goes without saying that the Canon lineup was in desperate need of a refresh. Even with its quirks, the EOS R is a superior camera to the 5D Mk IV in terms of design.
Winner: EOS R
Storage
I can hear the chorus of readers right now saying: “Yes it’s pretty! But what about the single card slot?” To that I reply, it is egregious that in this era Canon did not provide two card slots in the EOS R. They had to know people would want it, and it’s unacceptable for them to dismiss complaints about it by claiming this isn’t their “pro” version. The only thing that makes the EOS R not a pro camera is the lack of two card slots. Canon constantly handicaps their cameras so that you’ll buy something else. It’s unacceptable and has caused me to flirt with leaving Canon for Sony for many years.
The 5D Mk IV obviously has two card slots (one CF and one SD). It is wonderful as a wedding photographer to know that even if one card fails, you’ve got a backup. Again, two card slots should just be included in all cameras over $2000. There are no excuses.
Winner: 5D Mk IV
Image quality
The image quality of both of these cameras is great. They both share the same (or nearly identical) sensor with 30.1 megapixels. The color rendering is typical Canon perfection. The EOS R sports a newer Digic 8 processor, which helps with everything from quicker auto focus to better ISO performance. In the end though, the images that both cameras produce are nearly identical.

Canon 5D Mk IV | Sigma 35 f/1.4 | SOOC
Winner: Tie
Auto Focus
Both the 5D Mk IV and the EOS R are equipped with Canon’s Dual Pixel autofocus system. This means that each pixel on the sensor has two light sensing photodiodes. Simply stated, the camera has more information to use when focusing resulting in much more accurate AF. Better AF means fewer missed shots. On the 5D Mk IV, however, when looking through the viewfinder, you still only have the 61 auto focus points clustered in the middle of the viewfinder. On the EOS R, you have access to 5,655 points. In practice, of course, this doesn’t mean you select individual points but rather, basically anywhere you touch on the screen is a focus point.
The EOS R and 5D Mk IV also have face tracking AF while only the EOS R has eye focus. In normal use for portraits or when chasing around my kids trying to get an in-focus image, it’s awesome. And while it’s not currently available in servo mode on the EOS R, it should be coming in a future firmware update.
Winner: EOS R
Low light performance
Dynamic range and high ISO performance are both much improved over the 5D Mk III, and while not quite as good as some of the better Nikon and Sony offerings perhaps, both the 5D Mk IV and EOS R perform about as well as you’ll ever need for real world use.
In the images below, I shot 5-stops underexposed, at the same settings, and recovered 5-stops, you can see that the EOS R image is fairly clean with some slight hints of banding while the 5D IV shows very severe banding. I’m not sure why there’s such a dramatic difference between the two cameras, but the EOS R definitely comes out on top here.
Canon EOS R | RF 50 1.2L | f/1.2 | 1/200 | SOOC
jQuery(window).load(function(){jQuery(".twentytwenty-container.twenty20-1[data-orientation!='vertical']").twentytwenty({default_offset_pct: 0.5});jQuery(".twenty20-1 .twentytwenty-overlay").hide();jQuery(".twenty20-1 .twentytwenty-overlay").hide();});
Canon 5D Mk IV | EF 50 1.2L | f/1.2 | 1/200 | SOOC
jQuery(window).load(function(){jQuery(".twentytwenty-container.twenty20-2[data-orientation!='vertical']").twentytwenty({default_offset_pct: 0.5});jQuery(".twenty20-2 .twentytwenty-overlay").hide();jQuery(".twenty20-2 .twentytwenty-overlay").hide();});
Both of these cameras have great high ISO performance. They both produce perfectly usable images up to 25,600 ISO. While images shot at 6400 and below are clean with very little noise. I couldn’t see a discernible difference between the ISO performance of either camera.

Canon 5D Mk IV | EF 50 1.2L | f/1.8 | 1/640 | ISO 25,600 | Cropped
Winner: EOS R (by a hair)
LENSES
When Canon announced the EOS R, they also unveiled a new lens mount which they promised would be a revolution for lens development allowing sharper, faster, and more innovative lenses. Their first RF mount offerings didn’t disappoint. The RF 50 1.2L, which I previously reviewed, is the new champion of the 50mm focal length. It’s far sharper than its predecessor, the EF 50 1.2L, while it also does not sacrifice the things that make the EF 50 such a beloved lens. The RF 28-70 2.0L (review coming soon) changes the game for wide-medium zoom lenses with its f/2.0 aperture. While the new RF L lenses are enormous, they are incredible and worth the extra size and weight. Whether they are worth the extra price is another question.
In addition to Canon’s new RF lenses, you also have access to all of Canon’s legacy lenses with a $100 adapter. With the adapter attached to the EOS R, all EF lenses function exactly as they would on a native camera. I’ve actually noticed that the auto focus is more accurate for my Sigma and Canon EF lenses on the EOS R.
The 5D Mk IV uses all of the incredible EF lenses, but can’t take advantage of the new advances in lens design that the RF mount will usher in. In fact, it appears that Canon is poised to shift their focus entirely toward their mirrorless lenses in 2019, so I don’t expect much news from Canon on the EF front. That’s good news for innovation, and bad news for Canon DSLR users who are resistant to change.
Winner: EOS R
Cost
The 5D Mk IV currently retails for $3,299 while the EOS R retails for $2,299. The EOS R is $1000 less, with the same sensor and better AF. Is $1000 worth giving up the joystick for a touch screen, and one card slot?
Winner: EOS R
Conclusion
The Canon 5D Mk IV and the EOS R are both fantastic cameras. They’re both capable of producing amazing images, and both have great high ISO performance and dynamic range. But they are not equivalent cameras, and how you judge them will have a lot to do with what you prioritize. If you must have two card slots, then the EOS R is a non-starter. If a joystick for changing focus points is essential to you, then this is not the camera for you. However, if you want a lighter camera with better AF, slightly better dynamic range, a flip screen, with the same image quality and color science of the Mk IV all for $1000 less, I’d recommend the Canon EOS R.
