The rate at which whitewashed fanart of the clones is resurfacing and recirculating is...lmao. I'm beginning to think a lot of y'all specifically have something against brown skin. Because not to be mean but I've been here for years and artists who always insist "it's the lighting" frankly are inconsistent in their application of said lighting. Because you can see in art where they do actual full rendering/highlighting what their concept of lighting is. And even for the ones who claim to be against whitewashing, again the skin is too light.
People need to realize that when you're converting a 3D image to 2D that enough detail is gonna be lost that you need to correct by going darker than you think. And this is me being very generous and graceful about what is frankly a lot of (white, mostly, but also some [lighter skinned lbr] nonwhite) artists refusal to see brown skin tones as a valid part of their palette. If youve been drawing for years and your brown characters look at most racially ambiguous, if you do the curly black hair but skimp on the nose or you do the skin but give them a face shape like Clint Eastwood, youve still whitewashed them. This isn't an artstyle thing, because there's other people with a range of artstyles who don't whitewash. This isn't a skill thing, because there's amateur artists who perfectly avoid whitewashing, there's expert artists who avoid whitewashing, and saying that it's "too hard" to render brown skin or different features is racist as hell because in what world is it reasonable to say it's "too hard" to draw people of color? It's not harder. If you find it difficult it's frankly because you are not nearly as good at drawing as you like to say you are
Sidebar but this reminds me of how many art tutorials and artists seem to think drawing fat bodies, sticky bodies, etc is a "more advanced" drawing technique when it's not difficult at all. It's not. I'm an amateur artist myself. Rendering brown skin and drawing non-white features for once and drawing other body types is not difficult and it doesn't require a different skill set again y'all are just racist and bad at art.
