with so much deep affection: i think ducktales '17 is a stellar example of a reboot/adaptation of a beloved but outdated franchise made by well-intentioned and progressive creators (who really care about the thing they're making and are acutely aware of the problems with the original) which still fell short of their ideals in many regards because the fundamental conceit of ducktales is "adventure capitalist scrooge mcduck gets into wacky treasure-hunting hijinks across the globe" and like at that point it doesn't matter how many sincerely anticapitalist or anticolonial sentiments you hold you just cannot make them work within that concept in any way that matters
