It's Supposed to Be Fun

(a letter to my friends in the twst fandom)

I've been wanting to make this post for a while and these thoughts may seem scattered but I’m gonna try to express them. 

Lately, I have seen many friends and moots that either are leaving the fandom or feel guilty over not having posted in a while or losing interest in twst. On the other side, I also have friends being harassed.

This a reminder to remember why you joined this community to begin with. I know that keeping up with the fast-moving pace of fandom and comparing ourselves to others, can skew our perspective on these things.

It’s supposed to be fun. 

Why do we post art or write? Sure, partly for recognition, there's no denying that. But, why do we create, I mean really? For enjoyment. Not for others, not to be “popular” FOR JOY.

So, whether you’re dealing with people critiquing you or feeling guilty about not creating. My question is this: Why waste so much of your time on something that makes you miserable?

Did it stop being fun? Why? Haters? Loss of interest?

To my friends who feel guilty for not creating and not sure if they lost interest in twst: 

Don’t feel guilty. At one time, the creation of your twst content was natural. It's what you did for fun with friends or for yourself. Revisit that mindset and think - if creating twst content now will bring that same joy it did before.

If the answer is no, then maybe it’s time to pivot. It’s okay for interests to fade. It doesn’t mean that time, memories, or the friends you made are lost. Connect with your friends, we will understand! We still love you! It's not a race there's no time limit, just pick up were you want to. Draw fanart of old events or OCs.

To my friends who have been harassed: 

I say this with sincerity…. People who harass others over fictional characters are fucking losers.

Like… There’s no other eloquent way to encapsulate it. I’m starting to not care for the reason anymore - If you harass or be shady to others over a ship or fictional character. CONGRATS! YOU ARE A LOSER.

We all join fandoms as a hobby, for fun. We’re all just kids in the sandbox playing pretend again… and if you are the type of person to go up just to “kick the doll out of someone’s hand" or make commentary on how “their way of playing is wrong." You’re a loser. I have a life outside of twst, we all do. Someone saying my ship is wrong or cringe is just so laughable to me. We have to make fun of these people more for being so goddamn lame.

Imagine being so unhappy that when you see someone having fun you HAVE to comment on it. By all means, if it gets you through the day...talk shit to close friends or even post about it on your own blog. (THAT WAS ALWAYS ALLOWED.) Don't bother creators directly. Don't be a loser. I sure see tolerance leave people’s bodies when they see a fandom opinion they don't like. (And this is coming from someone who has lots of opinions on these things! But that's why I always put the disclaimers that, hey this is just MY opinion.)

Discussion is one thing, unhelpful comments are another. We shouldn’t give these people the time of day. Curate your online space. Yes, when you post things online you are subjecting yourself to scrutiny. But, we as creators need to stop letting these people have power over us. Period. We do this for free!! FOR FUN. The best thing you can do is create shamelessly.

Delete weird replies, block whoever you need to do to rid yourself of these people who have nothing better to do. Keep your peace. It’s supposed to be for fun. You don’t owe anyone a response.

The twst fandom is like a little family to me and I guess I feel protective over the people in it?  I have made many friends and memories because I joined it. And even dispite a handful of the negative experiences (AKA: A couple of “losers" that I’ve had to deal with.) I’ll always look fondly back on this time.

The key for me has always been to just…create for myself. I originally made bunnwich for me and one friend to make fun little arts about our Yuu’s and now I get to have lots of friends to share it with! I’ve transitioned from an OC blog to probably more of an Oc x Canon blog…but I don’t care tbh. I just…draw what I feel like. I know there are people who probably dislike me for that or feel strange about my content and that’s fine. I’m still gonna keep drawing it, loser.  

And I just want you guys to do the same, twst or not.

I can’t forget that all my followers and friends are a bonus, if I had never joined tumblr I’d still be drawing the silly shit I draw in peace. And while yes, I do want to grow as an artist and sell more merch and keep growing... I can’t forget my initial excitement for this silly little game. I like to talk about it. I like to write about it. It inspires me.

It’s supposed to be fun. Please remember that. I know it can be discouraging to have others being shitty to you. Or going through a creative drought. But, try not to let this stop you from creating what you love.

Twisted captivity

Chapter 1

Twst third years x fem reader

A/n: here is the first chapter of my new series “twisted captivity” !! Again this is a yandere series so it will have some dark themes! Also, the first couple chapters will be more on the short side since It has been a while since I wrote anything and also because of my major writers block and motivation for writing. So I’m taking baby steps rn lol. But I genuinely wanna write this since it’s been on my mind for MONTHS! So enough about my rambling I really hope you guys enjoy this!

You walked down the long hallway as Crowley explained to you the rules and things you would be in charge of.

“Since your father told me you’re a researcher, you will be in charge of writing down every detail and interaction you have with the mers and also help us understand more about them and their biology!”

You simply nodded, still not believing that he has REAL mermaids and mermen’s in his care.

“You will also be in charge of feeding them, cleaning and taking care of their tanks! Though do be careful, some of them can be very wary and may attack when they feel threatened!”

“Ah that’s…good to know”

“Great! Now it’s time for you to come meet them so follow me” You followed him as he led you down a long hallway before walking through a double door which led you to a giant lab. In there you can see a big window as people rush in all sorts of directions.

“This is our lab! Here we run all our experiments and test” Your eyes grow wide as you see a couple of people roll in a big cart with an equally large tank which has a mermaid inside.

The poor thing was thrashing around in the tank as she clawed on the glass. The tank must have been made with really strong glass since it didn’t crack or break by how hard the poor thing was banging on it. The cart was rolled to another room, which you did NOT want to know about.

“Don’t worry she’ll be fine”

Something tells you she wouldn’t….

“Come follow me! I’ll show you the less aggressive ones first”

Okay now you were slowly starting to regret this

Maybe you should’ve stayed home and made yourself a good meal as you watched your favorite show. But no, you decided to show up instead.

What if this is all illegal? What if the government or whoever doesn’t even know such a thing exists?! Or maybe Crowley is working for the government?!

As you begin to panic, you accidentally bump into said man as he comes to a stop.

“Sor-“

“We’re here!” You step aside and you stare in awe as you are met with a beautiful sight.

The place looked absolutely gorgeous. It definitely didn’t look like it belonged in a research facility.

The place had a huge waterfall along with some beautiful trees and huge rocks and caves. You noticed a bridge in the center of it all and it had beautiful long vines surrounding it.

This definitely looked like it came from a fairy tale

“Welcome to the heartslabyul enclosure!” He says with a big smile.

“This place is so…”

“Amazing right? I’m glad you think so because I spent millions on this place!”

“Hey Crowley!” You both turned around to see a man with black and white hair. The man looked annoyed as he glared down at Crowley.

“Ah! Crewel! Nice seeing you here today, say why are you here?” The man scowled.

“I work here you idiot”

“Hey now that’s not a good way to talk to your boss! I have a new worker here with me and you can’t make it seem like calling me an idiot is okay!” Crowley says as crewel turns to look at you.

“You should still run while you have the chance” He says which causes Crowley to gasp.

You just awkwardly laugh as crewel and Crowley continue to bicker back and forth. You step away from the two as you decide to explore the area a bit more.

You walk down the bridge and to a small path that leads you to another beautiful part of the area. As you continued exploring, you didn’t notice the pair of eyes that peeked from under one of the lily pads.

Red eyes followed you as you continued to walk down the path.

Weird….never seen her around before

He watches you like a hawk before quickly ducking down as you turn around.

You eye the water curiously

“Weird….could’ve sworn I heard something” As you were about to walk a little closer towards the water, the sound of your name being called made you stop. You look up to see Crowley waving at you from the bridge.

“Come! I have more things to discuss with you in my office!” You just nodded but before you left, you looked back at the water one last time before walking away and to where crowley was.

As you leave, the boy slowly comes back up with curious eyes.

She looks nice….

Hello and welcome back!! Thanks for checking in. I hope that my response helped to ground anyone who might have been having similar thoughts or feelings. I know I can come off as stern or even disappointed in my advice posts, so 💦 if you got something out of it, then that makes me glad.

I think it's safe to say that fandom is a double-edged sword. It offers a community of people with the same interest to talk, interact, and create with--but in fostering that community, we can sometimes become so obsessed with defending it or caring about that community's opinions. It's important to draw the distinction between yourself and the fandom you engage with so you can still enjoy Twst on your own terms, separate of fandom. Otherwise, we may take things too personally and react very emotionally when we perceive others as treating Twst or its community in a way we don't approve of. Again, you should definitely prioritize yourself because ultimately we're not in fandom to argue with people, we're in fandom to have fun.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again because it might be helpful for those moments when panic strikes again. When you see someone making a claim about your fandom or related projects that makes you upset:

Stop yourself before you say or type something you might regret later.

Take a deep breath. Maybe sip some water.

Ask yourself questions like:

"Is what I'm about to say/write based on evidence or is it based on a gut feeling or a strong emotional reaction I'm having?"

"Am I expressing my opinion in a way that may be perceived as unfriendly or hostile?"

"How would I feel if I saw someone else assuming this about something I care about or was considering getting into?"

"Do I know the person misinterpreting my fandom? Whether yes/no, do I, on an individual level, care what they think? Why?"

"Does the person misinterpreting my fandom alter my own enjoyment or understanding of it? If not, what might the source of my anger and upset be?"

"The block and mute buttons exist. Is this an issue using one of those might resolve, or is it something that must be said or interacted with?"

Of course, I don't mean to police how you act and react in this space. These are only suggestions based on what I like to do. These strategies may not work for you, or you may not be interested in them at all. And that's okay! The only takeaway I'll ask of you is that you continue to navigate the Twst fandom in a mindful manner :>

Hey, I have something I'd like to ask. If you're uncomfortable with this question, feel free to delete this, but I wanted to ask for some advice from an older twst fan.

I've seen so many people judging others for liking x Readers in Twst since much of the main cast are minors and many fans in the Twst community are adults.

I'm not even talking about smut fics, just.. regular cute romance stuff.

And I'm feeling stupidly conflicted about this because when I first got into Twst, I was still a teen, around the same age as most of the cast, so it felt ok for me to ship myself or a self-insert oc with them.

But I'm almost 21 now, I'm almost older than Leona which feels... so weird...

I just...

I don't know what to do...

I've know these characters since I was in highschool. It felt like I was going to school along side them, but I'm an adult now and most of them are still the same age, despite how many of their birthdays have gone by.

I fell in love with them and I still love them, but I'm changing and growing and they... aren't and it hurts.

And even more, I've seen people yelling at others in the community when they try to age characters up so they can write those stories and saying they can't do that because that's still weird and gross and that they just need to let go because the game 'isn't for them anymore'.

I don't know how to deal with this...

No, not in the slightest.

I'm 29 and I love the living hell out of Leona. Is that weird? To some people, but I've been in enough fandoms in my years to just ignore what people say about stuff like that.

I've noticed throughout the months of being in the TWST fandom, how many people stick their noses into other people's business and then complain about it to someone else. You guys have a block button and a blacklist tag for a REASON, please use it instead of insulting people for liking something you don't.

If people like KaliJami, let them. Don't sit here and insult them for liking it, don't point out very loudly how liking that ship is wrong and people should be shunned for it. It's so easy to mind your business and stay in your lane.

If people like an AU someone made and you don't? Cool, block the tag and move on. Don't sit there and yell about how wrong people are.

And if people like x reader? Cool, it's fun to imagine those scenarios cause guess what? They're not real and it's not harming anyone.

Let people have fun in a fandom and stop trying to police everyone, fix you up a nice reading nook and sit there and enjoy that space you made.

Though you do have a tendancy to throw in your martial arts skills and archery to challenge him a little, your aim is percise, and almost every punch or kick lands, you're good at parrying, countering, blocking, swinging, etc etc. Lilia tends to have you train him now because of your advanvced skills, and it gives ol' peepaw's back a break from it. Silver finds your skills quite impressive, your speed and endurance are also at an advanced level, making some of your attacks hard to dodge or parry, so he ends up with a few cuts and bruises sometimes, because you never tend to hold back during a friendly spar, though it is worth it, because afterwards, you always treat his wounds, and make him some nice warm cookies afterwards. Though he hasn't seen your Pharmacology in action, he's aware that you are able to craft poisons, especially really powerful and fatal ones like Cyanide poison, Mercury poison, VX Poison, Arsenic and many more, but he isn't worried about you poisoning him, because A. Lilia probably trained him to detect poison, and B. He knows you'd never poison him anyway.

Sebek

Like with Silver, you both spar quite often, swords clanging back and forth as you fight, attempting to prove your worth in a fight. While Sebek was trained by Lilia, you were basically self trained, your master later became your student instead, after about a week of your training. Your strength shows no bounds, same with speed and endurance, the speed in which you fight is faster than a fighter jet, sword swings and punches and kicks almost always hitting Sebek in some way, the arrows you fire almost always hit the targets... he would hate to be a target for your archery... he won't admit it, but he's quite impressed, he also won't admit the fact he looks forward to your fresh cookies afterwards. He is completely oblivious to the fact you can make powerful poisons, but he is aware you are a master in pharmacology, you never let anyone use store bought medicine anymore, you just make your own for them to use, and it actually works better than half of the stuff they sell at your local walmart, and, bonus, it actually tastes good.

He quite enjoys sparring with you, though he does end up with a few heavy bruises afterwards because of your strength and how hard you hit, but you always treat those afterwards, and treat him with some food, he witnessed your archery skills while he and walked in on you practicing your aim in the backyard of Ramshackle, you had targets set up around, and you fired with perfect percision, always hitting the bullseye... its almost like you're a sniper... You could fire a bow with your feet, and it would still hit bullseye, you could even not be looking and it'd still hit bullseye, its like you have eyes on every side of your head that tell you "Bingo, this is gonna hit bullseye", and don't even get me started on your swordsmanship, he could never win against you with that... he witnessed you cut a dummy into a million pieces in none but a milisecond! Crazy person, you are... He now fears you, plus a side of respect for you for these skills. He does know about your poison making skills, but he isn't worried about those, similar to Silver, he can detect poison with his wolf senses, and he just knows you'd never poison him.

Sir... Sir you're shaking. He doesn't spar with you too often, but when he does, he has to physically prepare himself for HOURS because of how strong you are, he is good at hiding the expression of fear, though the fact he's sweating so much when you're only a minute in tells you otherwise... Honestly, why don't you become Kalim's bodyguard? Clearly you're more suit for the job. Not only is he scared of you, but he's also kinda a simp for you... A Scared Simp? A Scarimp? He would let you crush him, punch him, kick him, anything... and he'd probably Thank you. I guess his type is Strong, kind hearted and attractive. (because that's what you are obviously) He's fully aware of your skills in the poison department, but he's good at detecting poisons himself (like the others) and he knows for a fact you won't ever poison Kalim or him for that matter, so thats not something he worries about often, as for your cooking, he absolutely loves it, and he also gives you pointers to help you improve certain dishes, and the advice always helps you improve more and more everytime!

indefinite hiatus

hey everyone....I just wanted to state it loud and clear now that I'm currently taking a long break from Tumblr for a couple of reasons. some of these reasons may even seem familiar as you've probably seen other fanfic authors stating the same issue again and again.

lack of interactions

remember when I had my 'battle of the restaurant' event? when it came to requesting, everyone was sooooo eager to ask for stories to be written. but when I published them? barely any interactions. no likes, no reposts, barely a comment of 'thank you'. it was as if I was a robot, publishing pieces over and over again for nothing. all the hard work I poured into my event: gone.

this wasn't the first time though. every time I publish something, the like-to-reblog ratio is pathetic. no one wants to comment anything sweet or even just a silly ramble. where is the interactions? where is the liveliness that Tumblr is famous for?

2. burn out from irl

sometimes, I feel like I switch fandoms too quick and too fast for me to publish some works from previous fandoms. I started out as a twst author but now I'm into one piece and haikyuu and so many other fandoms that I feel like I have to write for them-

and then when I try to enjoy some anime, I realize that I'm barely feeding any readers with any content and then I'm feeling so much writers' block from the pressure I put onto myself. I understand that this is no one's fault, perhaps from my own perfectionist issues but it's still a problem I face day after day.

3. a new stage of life

nowadays, I'm in a position where I have more and more work poured onto me, leaving me barely anytime to write any content for my readers. it's honestly hurting me too, whenever I do my own IRL work and then start worrying about what everyone thinks about my lack of interaction in comparison to everyone else. I'm feeling more and more drained from this constant cycle of worry and manic stress

so, other than the lack of interaction, it's not really anyone's fault. please don't start getting depressed thinking you've utterly destroyed me into a million pieces (I promise I'm fine, I'm just working on myself right now). but please reflect on my works and how you interact with other fanfic authors on this website. Tumblr is a beautiful place with some of the most beautiful work I've ever seen and some of the most thoughtful pieces of writing and art I've been blessed with. don't let something like lack of engagement ruin what Tumblr is. please

You enter an old, abandoned theater house, on a whim quite frankly. People never talk much about this place, at least not younger souls. It's always those wiser, much more experienced people that speak fondly of the place, but when your friends ask what makes it so special they can never find the words.

Beautiful reds line the halls, faintly brighter than stains of crimson sin. Golden accents which bring a special sparkle to it. A slight musky smell. Not one speck of dust. Despite the stories of it being left to rot years ago, it seems to be decently well maintained. As if something couldn't bare to leave.

"Welcome to my theater hall." A soft voice appears from nowhere as you turn to face the mysterious speaker. You didn't hear any steps or signs of another person. "I am Ota, the humble director and manager of this fine establishment."

A pale, sickly thin hand stretches out as an offer to shake their hand. You take it and it feels cold. Still some traces of warmth but it's just that. Traces.

But yes, obviously people have the right to decide if they want artists and writers to keep being motivated to post works on here for free or not.

As a writer myself, I just don´t understand the rationale behind it. There is literally zero reason not to reblog. It takes just as long as leaving a like and if you have zero patience to type out the tags then you don´t even have to necessarily to do that ( even if I will literally love you if you do!)

Likes do and mean nothing. They´re the equivalent of being left on reading after writing a long and heartfelt message.

Reblogs help our words getting spread around and actually show us that people care about our posts and want us to keep doing them.

But why have some people decided that they just refuse to do the thing the entire website is built around that would actually help their favorite blogs to stay motivated?

They have the choice not to reblog anything but it´s a selfish one and they better not complain when they get blocked or their favorite creators stop posting.

Just think about it: People ( me included) take hours out of their busy lives to write something and then post it because they want people to read and enjoy their works.

Writing sometimes takes hours of time and effort and it´s not always easy. If we were just going to do it for ourselves there would be no need to type out all of it out because the main fun part of the creative process to me is just daydreaming about an idea I had.

Actually putting it into words to tell a compelling story is tough and takes lots of patience. But we do it anyway because we want to share our ideas with other people, we want to talk about them with others. We want to ramble and fantasize about different scenarios. That´s fun.

It´s only natural to want at least some sort of feedback after spending so much time on something. And then it just hurts when people refuse to reblog your posts for ctually no reason at all, other than that they´re lazy or think a reblog is something super rare and special that only the "best" posts get to benefit from.

( Seriously, I don´t understand the sentiment of "Oh I really liked this but I didn´t like it enough to actually reblog and share it with other people. I don´t think the author should get any recognition. Oh but they better keep writing anyway and fast!")

At this point, rambling about ideas in a friend´s dms feels way more fulfilling. You guys have no idea of all the extensive rambles I went on with Korka that most likely will never see the light of day.

Why should I put in the effort and write it down to share with others when they can´t even bother to spend a single second to reblog it to show me that they appreciated what I wrote.

It makes no sense. Feedback and the back-and-forth with readers and fellow writers is what keeps us going. It´s super fun to get a conversation going about a cool idea you had! It´s not fun at all to see the notes on a post go up but no one saying anything. All that tells me is "huh, I guess people didn´t like this one. Guess I won´t post any of that anymore"

This complete lack of feedback from readers combined with work picking up is actually the main reason why I stopped writing for a few months. It didn´t feel rewarding anymore.

The recent yandere Alcryst post is actually one of the reasons why I started considering posting a bit more again. I was pleasantly surprised by all the nice tags and comments that one got and it made me smile every time I saw a new one pop up. I don´t care if it didn´t get as many notes as most twst works, I still felt way more satisfied and proud of it.

And that´s sort of where I come to the conclusion of this post:

Feedback matters, it really does! Likes tell us absolutely nothing, you could have downright hated it for all I know. But rest assured that I do screenshot every nice tag or comment I get, no matter if it´s actually a thought-out comprehensive analysis or just someone going "HJVJMVJM". I appreciate all of these so much. I save all of them in a little folder and look at them to cheer myself up when things might be tough.

So please, if you want your favorite blogs to continue then reblog! Maybe even leave a nice comment! Don´t forget that you get all of this stuff for free, creators are the ones keeping a community truly alive. You would probably be sad if your favorite writer or artist suddenly stopped posting due to a lack of support.

Please. Take that single second out of your life to hit the reblog button. It helps out more than you think and goes a long way to keep us motivated.

Hi gang, bit of a vent post (?) but also bit of an explanation

So, why did I randomly disappear from ao3? All of my fics were very well received and still get comments and kudos to this day, and I really enjoyed writing them, at the time. They were all written within a couple months in late 23/early 24, and I suddenly stopped posting fics whenever my latest fic came out in January.

I had only planned to break until March, this was due to some stuff going on in my life at the time. But I just kept putting it off more and more, and writing and outlining and planning fics started to feel like a chore.

I had no clear ideas, every time I sat down to write I was left with a blank page. Even the fic ideas that were clear fell flat when I planned them.

Writing wasn’t fun anymore. I had absolutely no motivation to write, or work on my fics in any way.

Then, the same thing started happening with art a few months ago. It was taking me longer to draw with a lower quality final product, it was more frustrating despite nothing about my creative process changing.

I thought it was just art block, but it’s been 4 months at this point. Art block for me has never lasted that long, and I’ve just gotten worse about writing.

And I genuinely don’t know why this is happening, writing is my passion and has been since I was a kid, and it’s never been like this until now- sure it’s frustrated me but I’ve never lost motivation for such a long period of time.

I’ve tried to write at least 5 different twst fic ideas I had, and a few of my OCs backstories, and it’s like a chore to finish them. Even starting them is stressful. I can’t glide through a story like I could last year, 20k words don’t just appear in my brain in a two or three hour sitting like they did. I’ve tried everything I know to try, and it’s upsetting as hell becuase I have stories I want to tell, I have ideas I want to share, I have fics I want to write, but I just… cant, at the moment.

I don’t know how long this will last, I really hope not much longer.

Also, the theory of him being an illegitimate child? The angst potential man. Also that makes SO much sense with his eyes. Idk if I would say a wildcat like the og poster said because they are pretty small (though I guess this is beastfolk and not real cats…), and a leopard like Sabor has circle pupils like a lion, so idk who I would say his other parent would be tbh. But it fits SO WELL. 👌 Maybe one of his parents met someone else on a diplomatic mission abroad and had a one night stand? That would open up the possibility of more than kinds of beastfolk and more twst characters maybe… idk 🤔

That all being said… may I ask… are you still working on “Charmed By the Sea”?

I know you’re constantly writing your posts for Upendi and Sanctuary and then you ALSO still have your side blog for the return to Wonderland AU that went INSANE. So like. Please, please, PLEASE don’t take this as me rushing you. I know how hard it is to write and how hard writer’s block can hit. I haven’t written in forever!

I was just loving reading it so much and I am really hoping you haven’t abandoned it. But I also know you weren’t even sure you were going to write it in the first place so if you ran out of steam and inspiration it would suck but I wouldn’t blame you at all.

I really hope this ask doesn’t come off as pushy, because that is the last thing I want. 🙈

I am still working on "Charmed by the Sea", but school as well as other stuff has slapped me in the face with everything.

Then Sanctuary and Upendi happened, and now I have a thousand more ideas.
