Based off of real complaints from multiple people, horror doesn't fit in the mtt. For a few reasons anyways...... I won't go into details on that, but ya I decided to make him worse :3 we're travellin' to cannibal horror😈 instead of eating humans he eats actual monsters tho. Because of the lack of magic and also the monsters desperate needs they're slowly turning into flesh and bone.... something horror can actually eat. Not all monsters r flesh and bones though, like papyrus for example(I killed him off guys I'm so kawaii UwU) but anyways.... by just having something in his mouth, horror's starvation gets the better of him and he goes on the hunt... and is essentially insane. I just think... he'd either eat too much or too little, sometimes accidentally starving himself and sometimes going too crazy and just. Eats too much. Either way it's resulted in a lot of vomiting..... he's kind of self aware but he's just too insane to be bothered, and kind of getting bored he gets creative with his food(prey). Sometimes he may psychologically torture them, he likes the hunting games :3 he may add soemthing to his food to see if it'll get better, and he learns a way to add monster dust to his food..... I also think it'd be silly if he studied anatomy as a part of his.... scientific side. The anatomy of critters and underground animals, so if he decides he cares enough he can actually like. Make meat out of. Yk.

As for the bad Sanses part... horror does have Lv but it's rather low bc he works more with psychological torture and cleaning up. He has fed the others human before but he's the only one that can be considered cannibal, considered he ate actual monsters. Anyways he's rlly unhealthy w food bc. Like I said, he either eats too much or too little. He learns more about cooking with nightmares books(he just got books of everything rlly) and bc of his own situation he tries to get the others to eat healthily. I don't think he'd like- take care of his own eating though... bc thoughts r getting back at him. This results in a lot of starving hismelf(cutely repeats myself a bagillion times) which results in a lot of.. "hunger pangs". Like how he reacted to fried human(Aliza) in the actual horrortale comic. So he's got bad first impressions generally...(trying to eat the others)

# WONBIN. - he is the ULTIMATE cat dad. you thought your cats loved you? wrong. they love wonbin. he does everything with them, carrying them in one arm while cooking dinner for the both of you with the other arm, falling asleep in bed with them all snuggled up in his arms, and playing together with cat toys for hours on end. he pets them softly as they eat, making sure they're well fed. he now saves your contact in his phone as 'cat mom' <3

# SEUNGHAN. - your cats are now also his cats. he takes care of them seriously, making sure they're always safe and healthy and happy, especially when you're not around. he even does research on cat food to pick the most nutritious one for them, and picking out cat toys that wouldn't cause any possible injuries. he only wants the best for your cats <3

# SOHEE. - they'll definitely have a love-hate relationship. he finds them adorable and so funny, but the scratches and hisses they throw at him sometimes makes him upset. you'll feel like you have actual children living in your apartment, having to break apart 'fights' where your cats wouldn't let go of sohee's cap and he was shouting for your help. but at the end of the day, they always make up and end up asleep together, sohee's arms protectively wrapped around your cats while they slept peacefully.

# ANTON. - like eunseok, he's a dog person. he's also lowkey scared of cats because they seem so intimidating sometimes... it'll take time for him to warm up to them. but once he does, they become the best of friends. anton takes cutes selfies with them, as well as filming a bunch of silly tiktoks. he even gets pictures of them made into custom stickers, placing them on his laptop, his phone case, and his headphones. they're family to him now.

I'm excluding owls form this cause obviously everyone has an owl.

☀️ William: a flying horse he used to race on, Granian breed. Never gave them a name! I'm sure there were small pets here and there, like puffskeins, but he was always overenthusiastic about them, resulting in the creatures skattering away. Horses were always fine with him though. I'm sure Papa had a dog or two at some point. But with Will as Hogwarts, there wasn't anything he could bring with him. William will get a dog eventually when he settles down, whatever breed he agrees on with Elland/Monty/other SO (mostly likely something big and fluffy).

🌙 Elland: no pets. His family's horses don't count, it's not the same bond as what Will shares with his Granian, though both Elland and Cyrus know how to take care of horses and frequently ride. Elland might get a dog but depends on AU. In Auror AU it'll only happen if he already has a partner and when he learns to take care of himself and take breaks instead staying at work till midnight. A pet deserves attention, so two people at home at least are a must. He gets the dog sooner in other AUs (mind-healer, professor, or og firework business owner with his brother) because he won't be risking his life and will be with them more often.

🧨 Cyrus is not great with pets, mostly because he is not as attentive as a pet owner should be. He would get lost in his projects, forget to feed the animal or check its water. Not because he doesn't like a pet or wishes it harm but because he is all over the place, doing 1000 things at once. There are always important projects or pranks to attend to, not a quiet slice of life to enjoy.

Elland gifted Cyrus a cactus as a form of a bet at some point: Cyrus has to keep it alive or he loses The Game. Yes, it is that simple to get Cyrus to agree to something he doesn't want to do, just get his sense of pride involved, and Cyrus hates losing bets when it comes to something he can easily do. He just has to water this blasted thing every other week to a month, right?

He certainly forgot about it on a number of occasions. And every time he remembers, he freaks out. Loosing is only part of it, though he would never openly admit it. Most of all he hates the idea of disappointing his brother. The cactus is Elland's gift after all. Every time the plant miraculously survives. But it is not as much about Cyrus being there at the last moment as it is about Elland placing a charm on said cactus. It would survive even without water although it would still be needed for the cactus to actually grow.

Elland is aware of how much Cyrus looks up to him. A little pet project to make his brother more aware of the things that depend on him. Perhaps in the future it will help Cyrus out when it comes to taking care of things that do not bring immediate gratification or aren't there to entertain.

Cyrus ended up slapping googly eyes on it. Sometimes he talks to it about his projects. Sometimes he charms other things onto it to make it less boring. With time he'll come to understand what Elland did, especially when Elland graduates, leaving Cyrus alone in Year 7. And with time, he will also start watering it regularly. He won't ever disappoint his brother!

And then there's a whole situation with pet rocks. He got them as prizes at an Easter event, he was intent on beating Elland at who can collect more Easter Eggs (Elland won). All the rocks he has are special, some are named after his classmates, and one — a reimagining of what de Strontiums would've been like if Elland and Cyrus had a sister.

TLDR: Cyrus cannot have pets, he'll literally just forget.

🌸 Lilith? Does she have a pet? Did she have a pet? Will somebody be her pet? Nobody will ever know but there are rumours she befriended a bear cub in the wild when she was a kid. Or was it a tiger when she was on a trip with her parents that one summer? Who knows.

ok thought dump about clan dynamics and related things bc i need to get this down.

revenelan leads the clan mostly in regards to where the clan plans to move to next, how to keep everyone safe, spiritual/religious matters and teaching the clan's children about their heritage (though there are others who teach the little ones as well, everything from history to culture to different kills.) she also checks in with everyone to make sure things are going smoothly - enough food stored, the health of their animals companions, hunters have what they need, craftsmen supplies are stocked, etc. also as a little side-responsibility, she plays a hand in matchmaking, which sorely intimidates her (she hasn't had the opportunity to do much of this, but she fully intends defer to their clan-mother, who i will talk about at some point.)

the clan does have a treasurer who manages clan finances and essential assets (food, clothes, blankets, etc.), the halla-keepers largely take care of the halla and any other pets, while also doubling as working/recording any maintenance for the aravels. there is a head hunter who keeps their warriors trained, scouts the roads ahead, and works with the treasurer to keep food well stocked. cooking is a clan-wide responsibility but typically falls on a small group of clanspeople, though the clan keeps a shift rotation going to make sure they get a break (revie is exempt from cooking often as keeper but also bc everyone knows she can't cook well and they don't wanna waste any food lmao.) the clan-mother is the oldest member of the clan and also applies vallaslin to clan members, she's great. and ofc, they have a head healer - the healers in clan aravun are non-magical, so they rely on the (alleged) ancient healing practices which they have recorded in a book passed on from previous generations (more on this at some point lol.)

one thing that is special about clan aravun is that they have surgeons. this i need to elaborate on through clan aravun's history (current idea is that their effective healing practices aren't actually rooted in dalish history, but were passed on by an ancestor who was a former tevinter slave to a magister who operated on other slaves in his research on the human body and medical magic. the point where he escapes and joins a dalish clan is blank right now, but what he learned as the magister's assistant was eventually passed on and distorted over time into being regarded as ancient dalish practices - which is recorded in the aforementioned book which was written at some point down the line to preserve the original elf's teachings, though they aren't perfectly accurate anymore. i swear it'll all make sense once i Actually explain it in a dedicated post lol)

the clan doesn't necessarily need revie to lead them to function, moreso just to be a deciding point for their future and to keep religious/spiritual practices going & their culture alive. a lot of decisions are made as a collective, but revenelan would be the person to put her foot down if she thinks the clan needs to head a certain direction. the good reputation she's made for herself has earned her clan's respect however, so it's not as if they don't recognize her leadership. that isn't to say that many may not agree with her decisions however. the clan is, effectively, a big family, and there is sure to be dysfunction in many forms at different points.

"Half a teaspoon... Quarter cup of.... They really make these things complicated, huh?" Kanji comments as he reads the recipe you gave him. You already seemed to know what you were doing, and Kanji insisted on helping so you wrote the recipe down for him to follow along.

"Well, it doesn't have to be exact. Baking is where everything needs t be precise, cooking is more measuring with your heart when it comes to certain things," you reply and Kanji nods and makes a face.

"Is that why the girls suck at cooking?"

"Yukiko is getting better. And Naoto is great at cooking." You can't help defending them, but a smile is on your face at how easily Kanji made the comment.

He's never been one to shy away from being blunt. You notice the shrug Kanji gives, but there is a bit of a smile at the mention of Naoto. Maybe you shouldn't have mentioned the detective while trying to spend time with him...

"The recipe seems to be missing something though..." Kanji thankfully takes you away from your thoughts before they became more green and made you feel worse. You give him a curious look since you don't think you missed anything. And Kanji hasn't cooked this dish with you before so you don't know how he can tell something is missing.

"What's that?" You ask and Kanji looks up at you, almost like he's in pain.

"Love."

There's a bit of a silence after the cheesy comment. You had not expected something like that to come out of Kanji's mouth. And by the looks of it, Kanji didn't look pleased at all that he said it. Laughter escapes your lips as you take in the five stages of grief that cross his face at saying such a cheesy comment.

"Yosuke told me I should say that while cooking," Kanji mutters as you continue to giggle, the tips of his ears reddening as he tries to hide his face behind the recipe.

"That makes more sense. I'll be sure to sprinkle in some love then, so it wasn't in vain," you tell him, and he grumbles as you both resume cooking. Giggles leaving your lips now and then while Kanji sulks a bit. Although, a thought does cross your mind. "Why did Yosuke say you should use that line?"

Kanji stutters as the tips of his ears become more red. He glances away as he seems to try and figure out a response before muttering, "To hell with it." You look at him with confusion as he looks up at you with a determined and an angry blush on his face. "Cause I like you."

Kanji, the guy that most people perceive as tough and a punk that broke things and people's faces without a care. The guy that you had gotten to know to be secretly sweet and very supportive of his friends. The one that made you several stuffed animals when you were sick as well as a scarf when fall had arrived. The guy that you had been crushing on but didn't say anything because you didn't want to get in the way of his feelings for someone else (that he doesn't even have apparently). The guy that is staring at you as you process his words still and watch him looking more nervous as seconds pass.

"You like me?" Is the first thing you ask, your tone one of disbelief and you want to smack yourself for questioning him instead of confessing back.

"Yeah, I do," he says and opens his mouth to continue talking but his eyes go wide. "Aw shit, I'll give you a list why later. The food is burning."

That caused both of you to scramble to fix things. You hear Kanji grumbling about how he should've waited until after it was made. A small smile crosses your face as you look over at him as he turns the temperature down on one of the burners.

"I like you too, by the way," you say and immediately regret it as his attention turns to you and not the popping oil in the pan. A curse flies from his mouth as you're quick to try to get his arm under some running water.

"We'll talk more after we finish this." Is a statement you both agree to as you want to avoid more injuries and mishaps. At least the dish got that ingredient that you left out of the recipe earlier.

Now, what exactly is that? I'll tell you.

Definition:

Pink Verse is the dimension my Sona, Vanilla lives in. It's filled with different creatures!

In the world of this story, there are two types of sentient beings. Humans and Critters (non humans). Critters also have 3 types:

Born: Natural critters, born from non-human parents. They usually have more advanced biological powers.

Incarnate: Some humans turn into critters after death, or I better say, incarnate. They tend to have more risk of getting critter diseases or mental illnesses but usually have stronger power outbursts.

Turned: the rarest type of critter, and kind of similar to incarnate. But there's no death in between the transformation. The human directly turns into a critter. They have the weakest magic, and their level usually never goes higher than 50.

Magic mechanism:

Spells: The spells are measured with a level from 1 to 100 (0 doesn't count since humans are the only species to not have magic at all). Below 50, you're considered weak. Between 50 and 90, you're strong. Between 90 and 99, you gain some perks as an insanely strong critter. And as I said, no one can ever reach level 100, other than 5 people, with 4 of them being the Great Keepers of the universe. You gain more level by learning more spells.

Biological powers: all critters have biological perks based on the creature they're similar to, like being able to fly, breathe underwater, have poison and venom etc. It won't change.

The world mechanism:

There are millions of dimensions to ever exist. Every media, every story, every tale, everyone's imaginary lands, etc... all of them are a dimension. The dimensions are connected together through circuits (that have quite a shape similar to an atom). And they're all placed in an outer space shaped place called "The Space of None". The human world, though, is outside of the circuit to prevent them from any contact with critters and the outside dimensions (because of some historical war reasons). There are critters that are disguised of humans living there as well... (mostly because it's the most normal and without conflict and danger to live. If you're a human, of course)

Relationship between two races:

Humans and critters usually don't get along since most humans are afraid of them and automatically attack, report, or fight with them. But the most dangerous part is the government, of course. They can detect magic or unusual non-human things, and they'll capture critters. Mostly to eliminate or run tests on them. And let me tell you, when I'm the creator... it'll be some tough and painful tests!

The great keepers:

Three siblings, one great responsibility. To take care of all dimensions and the people living inside them, and making sure no one tries to attack/destroy any dimension or the Space of None. And they're the only people with 100 magic level. And they actually have designs!

Fantasy Life Inktober Day 1 - OC

Jumping in early with this because I have no clue how much I'll actually be able to do this Inktober, but now's as good a time as ever to post my FL OC, Remus.

Okay so Remus might actually be the oldest OC I have, just constantly retooled and reformed into the version he is now. And because I'm totally not a hack, what could be a more fun way for you to learn about my OC than a literal bulleted list?

Socially Inept

Remus doesn't talk much and generally doesn't know how to respond to things. If you ask him to do something he'll more likely than not agree to it, even if it slows him down. Because of this, people find him approachable and a great listener. Thank God he has a talking butterfly that can handle that for him.

Extreme Workaholic

He is happiest when he's doing some kind of task. This includes combat, exploration, resource gathering, and crafting. He doesn't care much about the money his actions get him, that's just an added bonus.

Would Kill for His Friends

Despite spending most of his time working, Remus makes an exception for any of his friends. Their happiness and well-being become his top priority if he is out with anyone. In his mind, another person putting that much trust in him is a huge honor.

Not a Cook

(In the actual game yes of course I completed the chef life but it's more fun this way) Remus doesn't put much stock in cooking because he spends most of his time out and about. Why make a three course meal when he can just slap salt on meat and cook it on a campfire? (His favorite meat is wolf btw) He will make an exception and try to cook if he thinks it'll please his friends, no matter how many attempts it takes.

Advanced Combat Master

In his time focusing on combat-heavy lives (and not at all because he secretly likes it), Remus trained with his weapon types until he could fight a napdragon with his eyes closed. He isn't too good with hand-to-hand combat, however.

Loves Animals

This guy adores his pets and spoils them rotten. This is why he was so willing to step in to help Flutter/Yuelia and befriend them. To date, Remus has a dog, a cat, a parrot, a horse, and he makes sure they're all happy at any moment.

Relationships With Others:

Remus gladly still lives with Yuelia and is best friends with Laura, but outside of that his closest friends are Jude, Damien, and Elmie. He gets along with Noelia and Leo quite well, but both are too stubborn to admit they are his friend and Remus doesn't know how to ask.

@bink4 Actually, Makoto Sanda has confirmed in Gray's materials that the relation between her and Waver will remain teacher-student and not progress into a romantic one. Of course the anime likes to give fanservice at random times, but as you probably already know as a Fate fan, the fanservice is what they do to keep the money going from what I understand -_- in many ways.

I don't think fans of Case Files really have to worry about Gray and Waver's relationship being unhealthy tbqh. It's been shown time and time again that the reason why Gray takes care of cleaning and cooking is so she'd have something to do in London, and quite frankly, it's healthy for her to be doing that given that back in her hometown she had literally everything controlled for her, from when she went to the bathroom or ate to what she ate and when she slept, all so she'd successfully become King Arthur. Waver could tell from the beginning that Gray had low self-esteem & would likely feel really bad if she was just taken care of Even More when she got to London, so it makes sense to let her just take care of whatever things she chooses to take up, since for her it'll be something that compells her and makes her feel like she's not just being taken care of again. Waver's given her an allowance since she had come to London anyways. Gray's been stated to have the kind of attitude to more or less compulsively take care of stuff like that, since she immediately kind of starts taking care of Ergo as well and even proudly tries to be a good "Big sister" to him.

I've seen some comments lately about how Waver's mentorship of Gray is "unhealthy" which puzzles me because they have very firm boundaries with each other, and Waver isn't dependent on Gray at all..? it's been shown that Waver takes care of Gray very well and encourages her and supports her self-esteem also? he doesn't criticize her or anything, he doesn't put all his emotional problems on her or anything, the only thing I think that is the actual flaw at this point in Adventures is that he's a little Too guarded with her sometimes and that can make her feel like she's not able to communicate well with him? Given how intense his internal turmoil is I would bet he has decent reason to not show his emotions since the last time he had a self-despair spiral out loud he inadvertently ended up dismissing his entire Legacy and how he saved Gray and his students and she slapped him for that lol and after that he apologized 😭 I think as a teacher and student bond they have one of the best ones in a lot of media. It's great to see a teacher and student to learn from one another and grow together in the way that they did. And it's wonderful for them to help each other out, and I'm glad that Makoto Sanda has just outright confirmed that Waver is actually competent on his own because I hated seeing people act like he was an incompetent manchild for years or that he was forcing Gray to take care of him when he never did such a thing. Waver protects Gray in the ways that he can, too. I don't think their relationship is unbalanced at all. At least not in a way that would show it being problematic in the slightest. I think sometimes people are just shocked that their bond is so genuine and caring that they instinctively flinch and assume it's bad or unhealthy in some other way or assume that Sanda is going to steer it into hell or smth.

Ch.125 - Gaining Leverage

Phil and Tokala discuss their partnership; Baler and Simon have a talk; Baler learns new information about Kiera and also tells Simon about his new love interest at school.

Author's Note: Yes, this chapter is over 4k words with a bit of pending drama as well as a lot of fluff between Simon and Baler. I just love their journey together and how they truly view each other after their hardships. It makes my heart melt! Also, just in case anyone was curious: I start my new job tomorrow and I'm still slowly getting back on my feet! Money is still hard to come by right now, but I'm still able to manage and get food for myself as well as take care of my animals. Thankfully, this new job pays every week, so I'm so happy about that. I also have a set schedule so that it'll be easier to plan things throughout the day! I hope you enjoy this chapter! Hopefully I'll have another out in a couple of days!

“The value of the land is basically worthless without a water source, I’m afraid.” A lead executive on Tokala’s team explained.

“Worthless?” Adam, Phil’s lead executive on the project, scoffed. Aside from his arrogance, Phil thoroughly enjoyed the man’s cockiness when negotiating a deal. “A 40-acre goat farm sold for 3 million in the county over.”

“With a water source.”

“The water table on our property is 30 feet. I could dig a fucking well by hand.”

“I’d love to see that!” Angela fired back, far from intimidated from Adam’s negotiation tactics. “Your client already accepted our offer, you’re just supposed to red line the fine print if I must remind you of what your job entails.”

Tokala smirked with amusement.

“The fine print is shit. You get our land for free and then write off construction costs for years before we even see a dime?” Adam scoffed. “Phil, fucking Indian Tribes trying to steal your land.”

“The only reason you’re not choking on irony is the size of your mouth!” Angela snarled.

“Must I remind everyone that our goal here is to make a deal.” Natalie sighed.

“We agreed to a percentage as payoff. I can’t afford your asking price and build my desired project.” Tokala explained.

Phil shook his head, “I know how this works. You won’t spend a cent on construction. You’ll go to Chase or Rocky Capital and take a loan for the build. You’ll outsource the management except for promised jobs for family or friends. You’ll negotiate a heaping consulting fee for yourself and give speeches about how this will have a positive impact to the community with how much income will be brought in for schools and hospitals,” He explained, drawing in everyone’s attention by how great the future sounded coming from his mouth. “I oversaw the Las Vegas Lottery and partnered with managing casinos along the Strip. I helped write the book on this shit and I’m fine with all of this, but all I’m offering is that my piece of the pie will be just as big as yours.”

“I have no family to give jobs to, and my only friends are my partners in this business. Every dime of profit will go exactly where I say it goes. We both want the same thing, just different reasons.”

“Tokala, I look at the contract and I honestly can’t tell what you want.”

“Let me simplify it: I want everything the Jackson Valley Ranch sits on! I want that ranch and everything north towards Yellowstone and south towards Hot Springs. Do this with me and I’ll split it with you.”

“There’s probably not even a handful of people on this entire planet that can afford that ranch. You and I aren’t one of them.”

“You’re a billionaire, no?”

“Yes, but the only reason I am is because I’m smart with my money. I discuss strategies before falling through with a deal.”

“I have a plan for that, too.”

“Then what is it?”

“I only tell my plans to my partners. You and I aren’t partners… yet.”

“I’m not going to try and sabotage a deal here, Phil,” Adam spoke up, hating the sudden silence that fell between the two. “If you cede ownership of the land, would there be any worry of being pushed out by the opposing party?”

“And assume that Phil will get nothing?” Tokala arched his brow. “Is that what you assume my plan is?”

“Of course not. We’re just trying to be smart about this, too.”

“Strategize,” Phil corrected. “Is there a way that the percentage of the profit could become a percentage of ownership at the casino?”

“Unfortunately, the Tribal Gaming Commission will never license you,” Tokala answered with a sigh.

“Well, what about the hotel? We make the casino a separate structure – I own the hotel, you own the casino?” Phil proposed.

“That could work.” Natalie nodded, crossing her arms.

“I agree,” Adam nodded before looking back to Tokala. “I’ll draft a proposal. We don’t require a response right away, it’s just something to think about.”

“Of course.”

“Since we are all on the same page with the land, I would like to address a possible solution to these issues. I’ve gotten attorneys for the Clean Water Act and we are filing a lawsuit against Kiera Dutton for rerouting the river to alter the flow of the waterway. Since we have filed, we will present it to the EPA. Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout reside in these rivers, which is a food source for majority of the Grizzly Bears and Black Bears that wander through from the park,”

“Continue…” Tokala requested, a gleam of excitement in his eyes.

“Which is a violation of the Endangered Species Act.”

“Which is also a felony.” Adam finished.

“That’s the best news I’ve heard all day.”

“She has already been served the papers. I just figured I’d tell you the strategies after filing.” Natalie giggled.

“Good work.”

Kiera arrived home with a heavy sigh, eager to see her children and husband after a long day of staring at a computer screen. Unzipping her boots once she walked through the door, she mindlessly pushed them aside before hanging her coat on the rack as well as her purse, purposely leaving her phone somewhere inside as the smell of cooked beef flooded her nostrils. “What’s for dinner?”

“Baler suggested hamburger helper and it was easy enough for me to make,” Simon chuckled, shrugging his shoulders as he continued to stir the ground beef. “Is that okay?”

“I have no problem with what you two decide to make for dinner,” She giggled, meeting him at the stove to stand on her toes so she could press a kiss to his lips, smiling when she heard Baler purposely gag at the sight as he was sitting on the countertop, clear that he and Simon were having a conversation prior to Kiera arriving home. “Want me to make some sides?”

“We already have that covered, momma,” Baler snickered, leaning down so that she could greet him with a hug as well as kiss his forehead. “The twins are in the living room playing in their playpen. And before you ask, yes, I’ve been keeping an eye on them. Dad and I have been taking turns.”

“I know, baby. That’s why I didn’t ask,” She giggled. “I know you two always have them in your sights when I’m not home.”

“There’s also a slight change of plans, love…” Simon trailed off, causing her brows to furrow in confusion. “You know how we usually go to your mum’s for dinner on Wednesday’s? Well, I asked her if she’d rather come over here tonight.”

“Okay. I’ll be glad to see her over here so I can show her the Christmas tree I bought!”

“We’re really putting up a Christmas tree?—” Baler scoffed, dreading the day that he’d have to help Kiera put it up in the living room. Although he loved Kiera and Simon as his parents, putting up a Christmas tree as well as other holiday festivities is where he drew the line.

“We sure are and you’re going to help your dad chop it down.”

“Chop it down?” Simon asked suddenly, both he and Baler questioning her at the same time with the same look on their faces.

“That’s right. Mom knows a guy who was friends with dad since high school and he owns a tree farm. She and I both bought a new tree this year, so we’ll have two to put up,” She smirked. “We pick them up this weekend.”

“Bloody hell,” Simon sighed. “Looks like our hunting trip is postponed until Sunday, lad.”

“If you two want to complain about it, I’ll just do it myself.” Kiera arched her brow.

“No, we’ll do it.” Baler assured her.

“That’s how she does it, lad. It just took me three years to figure it out.”

“How she does what?”

“She’ll volunteer us to do something at the last minute, then pout when she hears me complain about it so I’ll feel guilty but even though I may not want to spend my Saturday chopping down a bloody tree, I’ll still do it because it makes her happy.”

“You sure did save yourself on that one, babe,” Kiera huffed, crossing her arms over her chest while she watched him and Baler smirk at her reaction. “I’m going to go change and find an outfit to wear tomorrow. You two sit and complain to each other while I’m gone.”

“I think you made her mad.” Baler whispered.

Simon shook his head, “No, I know when she’s mad. She can dish out the jokes but can’t take ‘em when I shoot back,” He said, knowing Kiera could in fact take a joke, but he was still in a playful mood. “One thing you’ll learn about women is that they love to volunteer us for things they can’t physically do because they know we’ll do it for them.”

“Why?”

“Because men are providers, kid. I’m going to sound old fashioned when I say this, but it’s the truth,” He shrugged, turning off the burner to the stove after the ground beef was done cooking to strain it in the sink before putting it into the mixture of the hamburger helper to let it simmer. “Women provide us by giving us children and the least we can do is be a helping hand when she needs it, but our main goal is to make sure our women are safe and feel like they’re safe when they’re with us because unfortunately, this world is too cruel for women because some men make it that way. It’s up to us to keep that part of the world away from the ones we love.”

“Didn’t think you could be so sentimental, dad.” Baler teased.

“I can be when I want, but don’t let your mum hear that,” He chuckled playfully. “She’s given me more than just the twins, but when she had those two, I watched her change completely from the woman I knew before to someone I didn’t think could be better.”

“What was mom like when you met?”

Simon breathed a chuckle, “She was wild. I’ve never met a woman that could physically terrify a man twice her size in my life.”

“Are you talking about yourself?” Baler snickered.

“If I’m going to be honest, yeah, she intimidated me – she still does sometimes.”

“She was in the military too, right?”

“If you want to refer to it like that, yeah.”

Simon glanced at Baler through his peripheral vision when he heard him scoff out of slight annoyance, “Dad, why are you so secretive about it? I’m old enough to understand these things…”

He huffed before stepping away from the stove to glance towards the hallway, seeing that their bedroom door was shut and listened for the sound of running water from the pipes below the floor, assuring himself that she couldn’t overhear what he was about to say next. “You think you’re old enough to understand?”

“I know I can.”

“Just promise me one thing.”

“Shoot.”

“You can’t look at her any different than how you do now. If what I’m about to tell you changes that, it should be how you can appreciate her more than you do now. She wouldn’t want you to feel sorry for her because it wasn’t her fault—”

“Dad, you’re scaring me…”

“Just promise me.”

“O-Okay, I promise.”

“That woman who came to the house while we were gone, that was Kiera’s supervisor in the C.I.A. She’s been involved in many missions that I was a part of too. When Kate shows up, serious things are about to happen—”

“So she’s about to leave?—”

“No, she’s not going anywhere, but I might have to—”

“Don’t leave.”

“It’s my duty, lad,” He arched his brow. “Only if I must. I met Kiera on a mission in Mexico. Unexpected for sure, but we worked alongside each other for a while before I developed feelings,”

“So, while it was raining bullets you were over there simping for my mom?” Baler snickered.

“Wh-? What does that mean?”

“What?”

“That word? Simp?”

“Oh, it’s like you were too focused on her when there were more important things going on or something like that,” Baler shrugged. “Like you were begging for her attention.”

“Not at the time, no. She definitely caught my eye, but when I’m on a mission, I’m focused on what I’m supposed to be doing because any mistake or delay and it’s your life and the life of others you’re risking.”

“So how does this factor into what you’re so secretive about telling me?”

“Got sidetracked,” Simon huffed. “Anyway, long story short, when we returned from leave, we were working with a commander who she had been investigating for tyranny. He found out she was investigating him, so when we got back, he forced her into his possession to find out any answers. When we found her, she was nearly unrecognizable – nearly beaten to death. I didn’t have to ask her what happened because it was obvious. More time went by before we found out our target was in Chicago. We get there, do our mission, and things took a turn for the worst—”

“Are you talking about that bombing that happened?” Baler questioned. “I heard that it was like the bombing that happened in Boston—”

“It turned into being a bombing, but it was originally a stealth mission,” He corrected.

“Were you there?”

“I held a sniping position on the adjacent building, yes.”

“That’s so fucking cool—”

“Focus, lad,” Simon reminded sternly. “On their way back to the main floor, Kiera, my Captain, and Sergeant along with some Marines were hit with an RPG. Johnny was the one who found her while I was making my way to the ground from the building I was in. Although I was terrified then, I still found it quite funny how the first thing she thought of after getting hit with an RPG was to bum a cigarette,” He breathed a laugh.

“So… She lived through getting blown up?”

“Obviously,” Simon scoffed. “And she didn’t get blown up, she got the worst of the hit when the RPG came through the building. Price was the one who used himself as a shield to protect her, but he was too late when he did and she ended up getting the worst of it.”

“Is… Is that why she has that scar on her face?”

Simon nodded.

“And the ones on her back?”

“How did you know about those?”

“I’m not stupid, dad. I noticed the first time she wore a dress the first summer I had with you guys and her shoulders and back looked like pepperoni. I knew they were scars instead of some birthmark.” He scoffed.

“Okay, but let’s not compare the looks of them to anything. She’s already self-conscious about it—”

“She shouldn’t. She’s just more of a badass than I thought she was already,” Baler shrugged. “How… How bad are they?”

“What do you mean?”

“Like… Is it her entire back that looks like that?”

“Yes.”

“Does it bother you?”

Simon furrowed his brows, “Does it bother me?”

“Yeah, like does it bother you that she looks like that now. Like, I’m not saying it to be mean because she doesn’t look bad, but… I don’t know. One of my friends dumped his girl because she got in a car wreck and is paralyzed now—”

“That’s not a friend, kid. Sounds like a bastard.”

“He is.”

“I wouldn’t continue to be his friend if I were you. I was on patrol that day I got the call about a wreck. I watched them pull that girl from that car and the first thing she asked was to call her boyfriend. And to now learn that he dumped her for it?”

“Fucked up, isn’t it?”

“Surely.”

“Still didn’t answer my question though.”

“The only thing that bothers me is that I wasn’t there to take the blow instead of her. Not once did it change how I felt about her. The only thing that changed was having to be more cautious around her. It’s been years, but she’s still healing from it. Her skin is very sensitive now and I must make sure she doesn’t overdo it when she does things she likes.”

“Is her skin sensitive or something?”

Simon nodded, “She doesn’t know it, but she aches when she lays too long on her back while she’s sleeping. I guess it’s because those grafts feel kind of tight to her, especially on areas as sensitive as her legs. I don’t sleep very well anyway, but I physically move her throughout the night in hopes of her not being sore in the morning.”

“Husband of the year,” Baler poked playfully, although he wasn’t going to admit that the new information, he just learned about how his father did acts of love for Kiera absolutely melted his heart. “So you really are a genuine man.” He teased.

“I don’t do it for the title, I do it because I love her. That’s what I meant when I said that us men are to provide for the ones we love. She gave me those kids and the least I could do is make it easier for her any time I can and more. So if she ends up wanting six trees to set up around the house, then you can bet your arse I’m going to cut down six trees.”

“Can you tell me more?”

He watched Simon shake his head, “I’m afraid I shouldn’t. I’ve already told you more than you need to. Just hold to your promise and don’t look at her any different.”

“You know I will.”

“Well, try not to make it obvious—”

“I’m going to look at her the way you said.”

“And what did I say?”

“To appreciate her more and that she wouldn’t want me to feel sorry for her,” He answered confidently. “Although I feel bad because I hug her kind of hard. Like I didn’t know it probably hurts and I don’t think about that stuff… I don’t want to stop hugging her, though.” He frowned.

“Then don’t stop hugging her, lad,” He assured him. “She’s never said anything about hurting afterwards, but I know she’s stubborn.”

“Should I just put my arms around her neck instead of her body?”

Simon nodded in agreement, seeing how concerned Baler was regarding the new information he had just learned. “Makes sense as to why sometimes I hear her wince when I do hug her every day.”

“It’s okay. She knows you don’t know about as to why she’s still sore from what happened—”

“She’d never tell me, either.”

“No, but that’s why I did. Even though you kept asking me to tell you.” He chuckled.

“Well, now I know what you expect of me when it comes to treating women… I can really use that advice now I’ve got a girlfriend…”

“You what?” Simon arched his brow.

“We’re not official… Yet.”

“Well, since you two aren’t “official,” you have plenty of time to make things right so that you can treat her well. What’s her name?”

“Holly.”

“Is that the girl—”

“-From the wreck,” Baler answered. “The one in the wheelchair.”

“You better treat her well, you understand?”

“Why do you think I wanted you to talk about mom?”

Simon tilted his head in confusion.

“Don’t make fun of me after I tell you this…”

“I’m offended that you think I would.”

Baler playfully rolled his eyes before looking to the floor, twiddling his thumbs in nervousness as he spoke, “I asked you to talk about mom because you get carried away. Yeah, I’m always curious about what you two did for work, but I’m really taking mental notes… I see how you talk about her and how you treat her and I just… I want to be you.”

Simon looked down towards the floor, unable to grasp the realization that he was an inspiration to someone. He really does look up to me, he thought, recalling the moment Kiera had told him how Baler felt about Simon. You were right, love.

“You… want to be me?”

“Yes. I don’t have the first fucking clue on how to take care of a girl, let alone taking care of a girl that can’t quite do the same things as me. She can’t walk on her own and is in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. I got made fun of because I confessed to my friends that I liked her and I thought I was in the wrong because my own friends thought it was stupid and I felt bad for telling them to fuck off, but I like her for who she is—”

“Please tell me you’re not still friends with them.”

“No, I’m not. At first I pushed myself away from her because I thought I had the same mindset as my friends and didn’t want to cause her more of a heartache, but this past week I’ve done nothing but help her out and pushed my so-called friends away because being around her made me happier.”

“That’s good, kid. So why haven’t you two made it official yet? You’re already referring to her as your girlfriend.”

“Did I?” He asked, furrowing his brows in confusion.

“You sure did. Looks like your heart has already decided for you.”

“But what if… what if I’m too fucked up to date her? I have a problem with my temper, I take forever to do things right—”

“I can assure you, we’ve both had our fair share of being “fucked up”. The only difference between you and I is that it took me 30 years to realize it and you had someone to save you from yourself.”

“That’s why I want to be you.”

The pair looked at each other for a few moments, now truly understanding their role in each other’s lives. Kid, as much as you’ve gotten on my nerves in the beginning, I’m sure glad you’re in mine and Kiera’s life.

we're getting closer and closer now to when megumin joins the party in konosuba, there was a scene in the last episode that coincided with the start of the show and there were a buncha cameos from kazuma, aqua and even darkness in this one. but anyway, the closer it gets the less I care about this show since it's stopping to be a spin off, like I said before it coulda've ended on like ep 5 or 6 and it would've been better than with all these additional eps after that but I'll save most of my bitching for the final ep. only 2 more so not dropping it now obviously

another great ep as usual, from the meeting with producer at the start of the ep I figured that they would get a live or something, and that was confirmed, in the form of an original song, at the end. considering we have 3 episodes left but the only girl without and episode is arisu my prediction is that next episode is gonna start with producer telling them about the song, and center on the process of making it and stuff, at the end of the ep they'll learn they'll finally get to do a live concert like they've been wanting too and arisu is gonna get another bout of self doubt. then on episode 11 it'll be her episode and she'll overcome it, for ep12 to be the big finale with the concert

IT'S THE NEMONA EP BABY LET'S GOOOOO good ep anyway, but nemona made it all the better, kitamura eri did a really good job, tho let's not discount nakai kazuya's (zoro) performance tho, he was really good. anyway, this episode felt the most like the old anime, the cast got to a new town, found the gym leader, resolved whatever problem was stopping them from fighting them and fought them. not a bad thing necessarily but I just hope it doesn't become the norm with roy being ash 2

just like I said last week this episode was where they explain tao, not fully yet (with the elements and all that), that'll prob come on the last episode. good ep even if it was mostly exposition I already knew, I was really settling into it when the cliffhanger hit so I guess that means it was very well paced. the way they changed the perspective to between the various groups while they were all explaining the same thing but in different ways was good and helped make the exposition feel more fluid and less like a lecture would feel, ofc it was like that in the manga too but still

This might be a bit out of nowhere but any advice or where to begin on becoming a vet tech? I currently have a job as a kennel assistant and I've decided I want to pursue vet work as a career but don't know where to start

that's exactly where i'd recommend you start, at a kennel! build confidence working with animals in a way lower-stakes environment (dogs are usually relaxed and happy at daycare/kennel, compared to the stress of being at the vet). unless you're already at a clinic? ok i'm gonna operate under the assumption that you're at a daycare/kennel.

all the following advice is usa specific. depending on where you live, you might need to get registered by taking the VTNE standardized test. i have an associate's degree in veterinary technology but never passed the test and am therefore not registered. in my area it hasn't been an issue because registration isn't required. nobody really cares as long as you can do the work, and i'm a shit test-taker yet a BALLER tech (also the test costs hundreds of dollars to retake). but again, i do have a degree, completed a full vet tech course, and my only option in the whole state was a private tech university which was waaaaaaaaay more expensive than it should be. like $40,000 student debt in a job that's infamously low paying. if i could do it again, i would NOT go to THAT school, because the other huge thing is: the clinical experience is where i learned 90% of what i needed to excel. if you have a more affordable schooling option like a community college or a university with scholarship options etc, do it!! but be wary of private schools, they're entirely profit driven.

if you're a kennel tech now and want to take the next step, then apply to be a kennel tech AT a vet clinic. kennel techs are usually there for janitorial duties and an extra set of hands for stuff like easy restraint. there's a big ol national veterinary staff shortage, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a clinic that's hiring. EVERYBODY hiring right now. bringing someone on as a kennel tech then eventually transitioning to vet tech/assistant is often the preferred way to hire from a training perspective, because starting with easier responsibilities and focusing on getting along with the rest of the team is less pressure than hiring a brand new TECH tech and loading them up with all the craziness right away.

now as far as the like....emotional side of things, i think i've already spoken extensively on how hard it gets. the first five years of fulltime teching was a roller coaster where the lows were a very very deep level of hell. now it's been 7 years going on 8, i'm part time, i'm the best at what i do, i've stayed with the same clinic and my pay is closer to what i deserve (it'll never ever be high enough lol), so i've finally reached a point of peace with this job. just be prepared for it to get worse before it gets better. one bit of advice from a trainer's perspective: when i'm hiring/training someone, the value that is way higher than your tech skills is how well you get along with the team. are you inquisitive and willing to learn? do you explicitly ask questions when you're not sure about something? are you respectful of doctors? do you keep a level head in a crisis? are you humble and willing to do the gross or mundane sides of the job? are you, like, cool? having those attributes makes you a good candidate, even if you're inexperienced. some of the best hires i've had were total newbies with great attitudes, and some of the worst hires i've had were seasoned techs who think they're hot shit and don't play nice with others. can't overstate how important teamwork is in this field.

if your plan is to eventually become a veterinarian, then this is where my expertise ends. <3 i have never wanted to be a vet, i'm settled in my career, i know nothing about vet school, go with god. <3

some great small-scale ways to enjoy our world, bodies and minds allowing:

touch plants. literally. just gently pet your mom's petunias, or the little shrub planted outside your workplace. Like a very small kitten--little pats and pets.

dirt! get it on your fingers. is your dog good with the boundaries of your yard? never had an issue with them trying to dig out but they like to dig in innane spots IN the yard? help them. Don't like dirt on your skin? use your shoe--I find it fairly easy to use just my toes and scoop like my puggy girl does. they'll love it and it's good into the ground sometimes.

Keep a potted plant to consolidate both of those. You can also get flowers, fruit, herbs, or maybe veggies down the line, which is like. the most primal "I did good" shot of dopamine I've ever had and it doesn't really "taper off" like other repetitive accomplishments do. Like, I have to revamp my writing process every few months because hitting my writing goal gets too easy and the dopamine hit just kinda... lessens because it's kinda the same thing over and over. It's not like that with gardening because you always have to put something new into it or observe a new development.

This is for those who are in more secure places in life, financially and their homed status, but small pets--cats, fish, toads, reptiles, gerbils, etc.--anything you can swing taking care of properly. Having something that really depends on you can also get you out of bed when nothing else will. ADOPT don't shop unless you have a reputable breeder and can't find the same breed already out there waiting for a family.

Do you have friends that live in a greener neighborhood, or even just their place is more environmentally rich? ask to help take care of their yardwork, hang out with their dog, chat while they garden, have a bbq, anything like that. you can double up on your socialization quota and your "ah, nature" quota.

watch a nature documentary or something like that "Oh, Baby!" show--something nice and chill that focuses on animals or plants or something. It doesn't need to be about climate change or activism--it can be--just about our world.

Learn how to bake with fruits. Learn how to make jams and jellies. Cook a meal that's mostly veggies, or mostly fruit. Veggie broth. If you enjoy animal-based foods, learn to make coffee creamer,* bone broth, perfect your chicken and beef stocks. Regardless of your diet, the foods you use, and what you do with them, all the wonderful meats, diary, plants, juices and coffees and teas, that we all have is because of the earth--sit with that for a while. If you're the type, maybe meditate on it, idk.

When you can, go for that hike, walk, or trip to the zoo/aquarium. Help your longer-distance friend rotate their crops or clean out the invasive plants in their yard. Go fruit picking or foraging--it doesn't matter if you need to be the designated basket holder, you're still there and you're still doing it. Ask a dear friend if you can just sit in their yard for a few hours and watch them play with their dog or kids.

Anything is better than nothing.

*A simple recipe: 1 cup whole cow's milk, 1/4 cup brown sugar, vanilla extract to taste. In a small pot (I use my stovetop carafe), add milk and sugar, simmer for approx. 30-40 minutes, stirring only to prevent sticking and burning on the bottom. It'll become a nice golden color and reduce to closer to 3/4 of a cup of liquid. It will be a thicker consistency. If a foam or film builds on top, gently scrape it away with a spoon and discard. When done, add vanilla to taste, allow to cool, and add to coffee. It's not as thick as store-bought, but most of single pot goes into 1 cup of coffee for me, but it mixes well. You could try it with different extracts, but I don't recommend the syrup flavors used for lattes.

Not to sound like a fuckin hippie but please for the love of god start noticing and appreciating the natural world around you. You don’t have to go hike the entire Appalachian trail or anything and I get that not everyone has access to the outdoors for various reasons, but just fucking … look around you when you’re outside. Notice the sky and the sun and the birds and creatures. Start caring about them. I’m begging you.

as for art advice.... i feel like im not qualified to give Good advice since im pretty much completely self-taught, but also maybe that makes the advice better? idk ive been "serious" about art and doing commissions since 2017 so i have quite a bit of experience but i still feel like a beginner gdhkgjldsgdskg but anyways here's my own personal things ive learned over the years

absorb as much art as you possibly can. art of all mediums. tv shows, movies, music, visual art, animations, books, comics, ect ect ect EVEN bad art! i am a huge believer of the idea that both bad art and good art is extremely important to you as an artist because not only does the bad art show you what Not to do, but sometimes bad art has GREAT ideas that you wouldve never thought of before. whether they're just executed poorly or the ideas arent touched upon as in depth as you'd like. i'm giving you permission to steal ideas right now PLEASE steal ideas from all the stuff you love and put your own personal spin on them i'm BEGGING you!!!! just don't claim other people's art as your own and you're golden

if you want to open commissions but you don't think you're "good enough", open them anyway. i swear it will do nothing but help you improve and give you experience for the future. i started out by drawing things for $10 a pop and it did SO MUCH for my improvement, i'm always drawing stuff that i wouldve never drawn otherwise and it's helped me a ton with my own personal art too. the variety of the prompts you'll get will be intimidating Because it'll be stuff you don't typically draw, but you'll feel such a sense of accomplishment by the end Because it's a challenge. all this being said, don't let people take advantage of you. stand your ground and don't be afraid to refund/deny a commission request because you're excited to get paid. for every client who's a dick to you there's like five clients who will gladly respect you and pay you what you deserve irt your skill and quality. i Promise

DRAW WHAT YOU LIKE TO DRAW!!!! Don't draw what you think other people want to see! at the end of the day, it's YOUR art, and you should be building a gallery full of things that make YOU happy and Spark Joy when you create, regardless of how "niche" the subjects may be. i'm in the process of unlearning this myself, but the best thing that you can do for yourself as an artist is be self indulgent and cater to Yourself above anyone else. if you only draw stuff to pull in followers/commission clients/ect you'll end up getting burnt out EXTREMELY easily and start to resent your art. the best thing to do is to slowly acquire the community that cares the most about your art, and you as an artist. that way you'll feel better about your craft and you'll be able to REALLY feel the love. the people who look at your art can absolutely tell when you're passionate about a piece vs when you're just doing it for attention/money/ect. that's why people who claim they're going to "stoop low and draw furry porn for money" never get anywhere unless theyre TRULY passionate about the craft, because people can TELL when their heart isnt in it

TL;DR draw whatever you wanna draw, be open to try new things, and take in as much art as you can and be open to new life experiences so you can stay inspired even when you're not making art. i hope this is helpful!! i feel like im kinda rambling about my own learning experience haha
