Due to a lot of feedback on the nature of this blog, and how the meme format can come across as insensitive and shameless, I'm considering switching to a news only post format, without the use of the destiel meme. I greatly enjoy sharing information about current events, and would like to continue doing so in some way.

So I am making this poll to ask everyone their opinion on the way I do things, and for suggestions to improve my content.

#x 2022 #pearl #maxxxine #x series #strait-jacket #psycho #what ever happened to baby jane #horror #psycho-biddy #hagsploitation #made this whole big thing which i still might post eventually but. in terms of aesthetics. this abridged version is better lol #i'm not gonna finish the other post tonight but consider this a preview of sorts #i can't stop thinking about what if they leaned more into the 'hagsploitation' aspect of it all lol #i actually find it odd + off-putting that they start and end maxxxine with a bette davis reference #with a big significant psycho cameo at the bates motel itself #and there's not really any payoff for those allusions!!#i think if you're gonna try to tie into a legacy of older horror films you should do it in a sincere way #because that just felt like 'elevated horror' bonus points + nostalgia bait #anyway. it's fun to think about the potential it had + how all the building blocks exist within the narrative to do something interesting #and i am a 1960s hagsploitation subgenre apologist lol #what ever happened to baby jane? changed my brain chemistry the first time i watched it as a kid #so maybe i'm just nostalgia baiting myself making these connections lmao #but it could have been so good #it could have been the perfect synthesis of the shared themes across all three movies #but i don't think hagsploitation gets butts in movie theater seats like girlboss 80s nostalgia vaguely true crime related shit #oh wait also i guess calling psycho a hagsploitation movie is like. probably not 100% accurate #but it is though. it's not an inversion of the subgenre bc the subgenre didn't exist yet #but it builds up a mystery 'psycho-biddy' character only to reveal that she's not the murderer #which is also what happens in strait-jacket so i think it counts!!#+ psycho is directly referenced in all 3 movies so it’s a pretty clear influence on the trilogy as a whole

cas asks dean (and sam) about john in 10x09 to get a better understanding of what a father should do re: claire's situation (bc he says he never knew his father). dean, imo, embellishes and says john was always "there when [they] needed him." sam then prompts dean to tell a seemingly "funny" story abt a time john swooped in to save dean. cas then parallels this moment when he barges in to save claire from the men that were attempting to assault her and traffic her. dean, with his own past experience fresh on his mind--and perhaps letting himself acknowledge what almost happened to him (and my own belief that john didn't actually magically show up to play hero but in fact let dean sneak out to teach him a "lesson")--decides to take things a step further. it's not enough to just save claire from these men, they need to be eliminated, so they can't do this to anyone else again.

#sorry i'm just summarizing and condensing the points from my own posts from the other day #bc i'm still thinking abt it #the cas john parallel is so interesting to me. but the dean taking it a step further--dean doing what i think he wishes someone had done #for him when he was young and vulnerable and being preyed on by creeps--is delicious #dean probably also remembering all the times john had him play bait. putting him in vulnerable situations. and resenting the hell out of hi #for that and thinking a little bit like. how dare he play the hero one minute and then put me in danger the next minute etc etc #spn 10x09 #vic.txt #mymeta

i don't follow dungeon Meshi discussions closely and also haven't seen much in depth analysis of the marginalization of halflings specifically but I feel like the Infantilization aspect is focused on without acknowledging the ways they are often also Dehumanized (little weird considering the usage of "human" in the context of the story but I think it fits well enough). Like they are considered unskilled and immature due to their appearance + shorter relative lifespans, but also they are considered shady, used as literal bait (for sirens and succubi), and fucking disappeared when they come into contact with dangerous artifacts. Like both are significantly negative, but one is a bit more Obviously Violent in a way that I feel like is under discussed.

#Dungeon Meshi #I got two theories for why. One is that the short lives races in general struggle with infantilization and halflings are more obviously #Visibly childlike esp to dwarves/tallmen so it's the more obvious and easier lense to analyze their marginalization thru #The second is I think sometimes ppl focus on justifying the shipping (listen. I don't fucking care chilchuck is a divorced adult man #Who gives a shit.) so people tend to bring up the fact that the infantilization of halflings is a form of marginalization to highlight #How despite chronological age gaps they are equivalent in maturity to tall men/dwarves/elves whatever the fuck. Again I don't care #But. I feel like this makes it take precedence over the other forms of marginalization they face that aren't really explained by them being #Viewed as childish (for example being used as bait. I don't think that's happening to tall men children.)#Anyway Chilchuck is a flawed character but also has to be understood thru the lense of him being a member of a marginalized group #So like. Some of him being mean is probably connected to that and not just him being A Hater (he is that too)#Sending this post into the world and straight into a blender also. Goodbye
