OMG, I read your essay on Destiel and that person yelling "how dare you" was absolutely hilarious! That's some meme material for TvTropes. I didn’t realize Suletta was a quite ambiguous ship like Victuri. What are they even bragging about while calling Destiel queer baiting? Both ships had the same "will they be canon or not" rocky path, but theirs with less homophobic writers.

At least that person apologized and admitted they didn't actually have any background knowledge on Destiel, which is easily the best interaction I had off that poll. They were mad at meme voters and I was quipping about different meme voters and maybe meme voters that love to flood polls to talk shit are the insufferable element here, you know?

The whole canon details thing was something to realize - though I don't think "ambiguous" is the word. Like, they are a pretty clear part of their show's canon, same as Destiel and Victuuri. I don't think lacking an onscreen kiss makes them less canon or anything. If we really want to get into it, trying to pretend there's a clear dividing line between undeniable canon and not (or blessed text vs barbarous subtext) is a mindset that probably causes more harm than good.

Like - subtext is part of the text. It's an element that writers, actors, set designers, etc. put into the story deliberately, and things can be both subtext and really obviously conveying a specific thing (ex: romantic feelings). Not all subtext is equally "open to interpretation" yeah.

If we say "no actually your really blatant subtext is still not real canon unless it's textual in these ways" then we raise the question of what even counts as textual. Is living together and wearing wedding rings textual if we don't acknowledge a marriage any other way? What about if it's from a culture that doesn't wear rings? It also kind of insultingly bakes in a certain level of assumed audience stupidity, where something can be the most obvious conclusion to the information you've been given by the writers but you still have to pretend you don't know it for sure because...? Like the main things you accomplish with arbitrary lines are a) making it easier for bad writing to count as canon than good since it's more likely to be blunt / shallow, b) giving the people with the least creative control (censors) the most say over who gets to cross the lines, and c) devaluing ships that actually try to build up a relationship over time (like well-written straight couples have done for ages) because they are "just ambiguous subtext" until they aren't.

It's a lot more accurate to recognize canon comes in various forms, and "plausible deniability that isn't actually plausible at all if you watch the show" is a big one.

Like I haven't seen the anime so I won't make sweeping claims, but basic example from multiple sources explaining the show premise - the fact that the girls get engaged in episode 1 as near-strangers because of a whole pre-established political / business marriage arrangement between the best fighter and the prized daughter... if you're a writer trying to make sure you can have your f/f ship married in the endgame, having it be a plot point to guarantee access to Bride/Groom queercoding through the whole series is a really good way to do that! And it's specifically queercoding with a "straight explanation" even if it's insulting to both the writers and audience to pretend that holds up to scrutiny in the context of the whole series. I know this because I've seen those sorts of tactics a lot.

It's just really interesting how the difference between a queerbait, a will-they won't-they, and a canon slowburn can often be determined by how positive any given fan's feelings toward the ship, show, and writers are. It's hardly objective fact.

(EDIT: Oh and I didn't use wedding rings as an example because of the anime - it wouldn't even be a good one because they also have people referring to the girls as in-laws - I used it because it's a broadly understood cultural shorthand but also fundamentally "wearing literally any ring on this finger = dedicated romantic relationship" is super subtextual.)

My first impression

Honest to god, I don't remember at all- I can kinda glean from older messages that I definitely liked Mangattore from when I first saw him, and I do remember being unable to write Dottore for the longest time despite wanting to (eventually I had to resort to making him a very specific type of character to have it take), but the sheer hyperfixation on him has thoroughly cleared my brain of any previous opinions on him (though I might have felt like I phantom wrote him from the start? hmmm)

My impression now

I love him. Immensely. I think he has a lot of potential for his character to go in various directions, and that's what scares me- we might have to kill him, and I really, really don't want to--

Favorite thing about that character

That's really hard to pick. If I had to choose...I suppose the fact that he's a medic/science boi? Since that's one of biggest factors in being My Type Of Character

Least favorite thing

The fact that his segments fucking die at the end of Sumeru. Yeah, yeah, yeah, probably a minor setback in the grand scheme of things, but I wanted to meet more of them-

Ironically, the death throes of the segments. I play with the Chinese audio, and, like...one of the segments sounds noticeably younger than the rest? Which absolutely punched me in the gut when I heard it. And also just...everything else about it. We get crumbs of characterization, and a- (Also the translated version of the onscreen text is better than the English translation of the scene, in my opinion)

This is gonna sound perhaps a bit odd, but I'm really bummed out that we never saw any direct interactions between Scaramouche and Dottore. How do these two talk to each other? How do they interact? When it comes to actual canon, I have no idea.

A headcanon about that character

I have many. I've already mentioned previously on this blog that I view him as trans (which I bring up now because I don't think I've ever seen anyone else have that headcanon), but another one I have is that he's originally from the desert (shortly after the desert was made) and had two older sisters and three older brothers. Basically the only family member he got along with was his oldest sister, Zahra. Everything else wound up being very...unfortunate.

You never know when the moment will choose you.....Mary and I were seated in the 1A&B bulkhead seats for our flight to Salt Lake City (connecting to SEATAC) as the plane loaded in Philly.  Just a regular flight like any other.  Mary and I were talking and over her shoulder I noticed a guy in line, coyote brown day pack with a MARPAT poncho liner rolled up and lashed to the side, khaki vertx cargo pants, crocks and a 2/5 Marines T-shirt.  What stood out to me was that he was carrying a folded American Flag.

 My blood turned cold.  "Mary", and I gestured towards him as he moved down the aisle somewhere in the rear of the plane.  She turned around and then she looked back at my face and she knew too. "You think"? Asked Mary"Philly is the closest airport to Dover AFB", I replied.Mary and I sat in silence staring at each other for a few seconds and then she said "I'm going to take his seat and send him up here, he needs YOU, Chuck".Before I could even reply she was out of her seat and moving to the rear.  A couple minutes later this Marine is standing next to me and he says "I was told to report to the bulkhead"."Hey man, I'm Chuck have a seat".

We shook hands.Long story short, this Marine was a Company Gunny in 2-1 Marines and had just escorted 10 of his men to Dover AFB.  He was on his way to Pendleton after being relieved by other escorts to take his fallen Marines to their various places of internment.  We talked and I listened.  This was his 6th deployment and he had worked Abby gate with his Marines for the past couple weeks. The things he saw at that gate are indescribable.  He called it playing God, as they plucked At Risk Afghans out of the crowd.He was the Marine captured in a meme giving children drinks of his bottled water.  He was still in shock, his hands were still stained from the MASCAL.  The weight of that flag in his lap was almost overwhelming to me as I sat next to him.  I struggled with my own emotions as I got him fed and a cold beer and some water.  And then I let him rest, he was so impossibly tired.

Misha and I looked after him while he slept.  After we had been flying for a couple of hours he woke up to go to the bathroom. He got up still clutching the flag, then he turned and looked back at his seat and then at me.... questioning.  I nodded that it was safe for him to leave it.  He set the flag on his seat and went to the bathroom.  Now I was alone with the flag that had been over a coffin in a C17 hours earlier.  This symbol of it all, the whole damn 20 years sat there next to me and I couldn't hold the tears back anymore.  I texted my Marines, Jake, and Paul others and told them that fate had made me a Ranger Buddy of Marines tonight.My thoughts were with the Gunny, it hadn't hit him yet.  Mary and I could see it in his eyes, he was running on auto pilot.Where do we find such men????I checked with Delta to see if there was a late flight from San Diego to Seattle but the last flight of the night had gone, so going the rest of the way to San Diego so he wouldn't be alone was out of the question as I would be stuck there until tomorrow.  I made sure that his unit had transportation waiting for him when he arrived there, and we parted company in Salt Lake to head to our connecting flights.

I'm writing this not to virtue signal, but to remind everyone that outside of their life and its problems, there are men holding the line, doing what must be done no matter what.  While my family stands down a hurricane and there is nothing I can do to help them tonight, God put me on a plane with a lone Marine carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, and Mary Pressburg made sure that for at least a couple of hours of his journey, that he wouldn't have to bear the weight of that flag alone, and I love her for it.Misha showed the love that only an animal trained to serve could and I'm grateful for both.Sitting in 1A wasn't the mission I deserved, but it was the mission that I needed tonight. Sometimes Satan shows you one of his dangerous books, which usually ends with some shenanigans.

More than once you have to stop him from doing something stupid to Lucifer.

It's never working out anyways.

You also often get to go to random events with him, he often sends you messages. Like do you want to go to this new museum, club opening, random sports event?

It's always something different and interesting.

You can also just relax with him and talk about random stuff or make plans to do something.

Lucifer

He doesn't have much free time.

There is always something he is managing.

He is truly thankful for anyone that is understanding of this and can help him to reduce his stress.

Just going to him with a cup of coffee or tea and snacks means a lot to him.

You can always get him to relax with some classical music.

He will also usually call you if he needs someone to come with him.

Lucifer is also always grateful if you manage some of his brother's chaos.

It's also helpful when you get along with Diavolo.

Lucifer usually also brings you to a museum or concert when he has the chance to do something for fun.

He also always lends you his records.

Even if most you can't even listen to without causing damage.

You often talk to him, often him venting about his latest troubles.

He is just glad when someone listens to him and may offer some advice to him.

He isn't one to listen to just anyone but he always listens to you.

Lucifer truly values your opinion.

Mammon

You get to see a side of Mammon that only a few get to see.

Of course, it takes a long time to break his shell.

Many things that he thinks are embarrassing are actually his best qualities, like him caring about children.

As we all know he gets into a lot of trouble.

It's usually his own fault but you usually get dragged into it.

Trying to fix his mess or joining him in making the mess even worse.

It's a struggle.

Mammon also likes to party so you do that often together.

Sometimes joined by a few of the other brothers.

He also does his modeling work, so if you are in any way interested in that it's also good.

Mammon can use all the support he can get.

You both often study together, even when it's hard for Mammon.

Mammon often talks to you about his problems since you are the only one that truly listens and wants to help him.

“BHA if it was even wackier and more wholesome” an Epithet Erased Review

(The Writer is aware that they are writhing this way after the series’s release date and what the writer calls the ‘hyped up’ period in which large quantities of fans and watchers will gush about how great/bad a show is by frequently posting thoughts and meme material on social media within a week’s time after the show has been aired.)

(The Writer is writing this in an attempt to polish their writing skills and hopefully have something to add to their skill portfolio, and now for the review proper)

Epithet Erased is a 7-episode animated Indie show from the whimsical mind of Brendan Blader who has an online presence on Youtube through his Channel Jelloapocaylpse, where he uploads an assortment of animations and animated critiques about various cartoons and anime. But that’s not really important right now.

Epithet Erased stands out from the rest of the animated Indie darlings by being unique in it’s animation style… which is to say it uses less animation. Indeed,with the exception of the shows opening and a handful of scenes in the shows runtime (courtesy of the fine animators from powerhouse studios), Most of show’s format resembles a visual novel or dating sim.

Most surprisingly, this format works very well, and it’s complemented by it’s cast, story and characters that all combines together into something that is truly worth a piece of your time.

The World of Epithet Erased takes place in a world much like our own except that a portion of the world’s population are born with superpowers known as Epithets. (Think My Hero Academia without the focus of institutionalized heroism).

Molly Blyndeff, our initially unwilling protagonist of the show has fallen asleep inside a museum and wakes up to find herself involved in heist of dastardly proportions full of danger, mystery, and heart to heart sewing circles.

Writing wise, the story of Epithet Erased strikes a fine line between wacky and interesting by presenting a great story that would honestly feel right at home with any cartoon television network.

It’s also full of the sort of tongue and cheek humor that tickles that funny bones of millenials who have a refined taste for smart jokes and existential nihilism. Jokes that would not have hit as hard if not for the delivery made by the show’s characters.

Like a box of crayons, the shows cast are a colour bunch characters each with their own charming personality which brought to life by show’s great voice talents. From Molly’s timid yet adorable personality played by seasoned anime dubber Dani Chambers to the unrelentingly loyal and often times dumb muscle that is Indus Tarabella played seasoned non-anime dubber Anthony Sardinha.

Back to the presentation format, as mentioned before, the show uses a visual novel sort of look (minus the text bubbles, but you can turn on the captions for funny lines of narration). Characters are limited to full body sprites that have a set amount of expressions that change depending on what character is saying.

For movement, character “move” their sprite forms from one place to the next or they’re reduced to small portraits on a map when conveying large distances. No fancy shot angles here, no siree.

The latter might sound more like something out of a tabletop game rpg and you’d be right. Blader has admitted that the idea for Epithet Erased came from a modified Dungeons and Dragons that he ran with friends.

The music of Epithet Erased is nothing to scoff at either. True it does not have access to an entire orchestra at their disposal like a certain absorbent yellow sea creature. But what the show does have in the music department is rather catchy to the ear. Such as the various character’s theme music and the show’s outro: “We’re great at crime.”.

In conclusion and if you mind my repeating myself, Epithet Erased is an unconventional animated show that’s a clearly a labour of love what with it’s stellar cast, delightful music and wonderful writing that leaves the audience wanting for more.

Although the show does not a have a definitive release date, or even a production date for that matter for season 2. Blader has a patreon account that fans could contribute to support him and his hopes of getting enough funds for another season.

What does their name mean? Why were they named that? Wesley means “western meadow,” Daniel means “God is my judge,” and Brooks means “stream.” You can find my real world reasoning for choosing his name here. As for the canon reasoning, Wesley is a family name on his father’s side and Daniel is a good Christian name. 

Do they have any nicknames? Lots. Wes is the big one (Hwes if you’re Hurk Jr.), Rook, Dep (Deputy if you're as extra as John Seed), Bright Eyes (Raf only), Sundance (Nick only), Darling (Lyra, when she’s being cheeky), and probably a handful more that I’m forgetting.

How old are they? 28, almost 29 as of the start of FC5.

When’s their birthday? November 11, 1989

What’s their zodiac sign/element/birthstone/etc.? Do they believe that holds any significance? Scorpio sun, Aries moon, Aquarius rising. Year of the snake. Birthstones are topaz and citrine. He isn’t aware enough of any of this to believe in it.

What’s their species/subspecies? Do they have any special/magical abilities? He is a natural disaster in human form. His special ability is that he somehow manages to survive that for as long as he does.

What “class” do they belong to (for fantasy characters)? If none, what weapon do they favor? A revolver (Steel & Ivory), a sawed-off shotgun (Sin Eater), or basic hand-to-hand. Close combat is preferable to range. He also uses homemade C4 in his tireless crusade against cult infrastructure.

What do they look like? He’s 6′3″, has brown-ish hair (specifically, a warm golden bronze color) and hazel eyes with long eyelashes. Fit, moderate-to-lean build. Sharp features, angular jaw, a pronounced Cupid’s bow. He has the facial hair of a man who has forgotten to shave for two weeks, because he is—you guessed it—a man who has forgotten to shave for two weeks.

What’s their style like? Clothes, hair, makeup? Casual clothing—flannels (often tied around the waist), t-shirts, henleys, jeans, boots, jewelry (gold, leather), leather jacket, cargo jacket. His hair is messy and soft, just like he is, because he doesn’t overload it with hair products unlike some people. He’s got an ouroboros tattooed around the lower part of his right forearm and (universe-dependent) John and Lyra’s names on the inside of his wrists.

How do they carry themselves? What’s their default expression? He attempts to project swagger and indifference, but to anyone who knows him and is paying attention, he’s an open book. In a comfortable environment, he’s loose and casual. His default expression is fixated if he has something to occupy his mind and distant if he doesn’t.

Do they have any physical ailments or disabilities? No, but he’s got bruises and flesh wounds aplenty! He’s got bite marks and scratches galore! You want knife-slashing scars? He’s got twenty. But who cares? No big deal. Wes wants mooooore! 🎵

What kind of things do they dislike/hate? Hates being controlled, dislikes very sweet things.

Do they have any vices/addictions/mental illnesses? Impulsiveness, reactive behaviors. He smokes and drinks, although neither of those are done with a shocking amount of excess. Previously, harder drugs.

BACKGROUND

Where were they born? What was their childhood like? Born in Hope County. He was an only child and his home life was suspect, but made moderately more bearable by his best friend. Once he realized trying to please his father was a losing battle, he said hell yeah to a downward spiral of rebelliousness and troublemaking.

What’s their family like? His dad was a jerk of the sort that would never be satisfied. Big on toxic masculinity, short on acceptance. His mother loved him, but she fell in line more often than not.

What factions or organizations are they a part of? What ranks and titles do they hold? Hope County Sheriff’s Office (probationary sheriff’s deputy), Hope County Resistance (figurehead, pot stirrer, problem magnet). 

How do they fit into their “story”? Barely. Next question. I hate to use this word yet again, but it’s the only one that fits: his story is mostly about acceptance—self, fate, fault, sorrow, joy—because as much as he desired acceptance from others, he denied a lot of it for himself.

Where do they currently live? What’s their place like? He grew up in the Silver Lake trailer park, way up on the northeastern end of Holland Valley, near the Whitetails. For the duration of the game timeline, I picture him spending more time crashing where he can—with the Ryes, in the woods, wherever—but his own place would be sparse and fairly untidy, with clothes tossed everywhere. 

How do they eventually die? Wesley intends to live forever. How dare you insinuate—

RELATIONSHIPS

Do they have any friends? Would they consider anyone to be their best friend? Within the timeline of the game, he has quite a few. Raf is his best friend (and has been since they were kids), but Nick (and Kim) are both up there. He has a soft spot for Mary May; that seems to be reciprocal. He appreciates Grace because she doesn’t ask unnecessary questions. Sharky and Hurk offer unconditional friendship, which he appreciates and sorely needs. Adelaide is the vodka aunt who thirsts after his ex. She tries to rile him up sometimes (in a myriad of ways), but he likes her. And if you account for other universes, his friend count goes way up thanks to the various and sundry brat squad kids.

What’s their friend group like? What role do they play in it? When he was younger, he was the introvert-adopted-by-an-extrovert. He was a bit too withdrawn to have friends outside of that, though he wasn’t unfriendly. For a bulk of the current timeline, his friend group is “ragtag misfits” status and he basically gets ping-ponged between them as they try—with varying amounts of success—to fight a cult.  

What’s their love life like? (See also: ship question meme.) Do they have any kids? Depends on the universe. In canon, it’s messy but becomes significantly healthier later on. His previous relationship was promising and likely would have been ideal, except that they were young and unable (or unready) to deal with the realities of their situation. In AU, he is enemies-with-benefits but also grossly in love with the Judge of Eden’s Gate and her husband (who was a fun surprise, but it’s fine, because Wes got Lyra back by giving her a gracious two-for-one deal on children)!

Who do they look up to? Who do they trust? Whitehorse is something of a father figure, though Wes would never say that out loud. For the record, neither would Whitehorse (at least not directly to Wes)—mostly for Wes’s benefit. He trusts Raf, Pastor Jerome, and the rest of his friends listed above.

Who do they hate? Do they have any enemies? Joseph, because Joseph is daddy issues incarnate. Jacob, because Jacob understands Wes well enough to yank him around like a dog on a leash. By the time the Collapse hits, everyone is his enemy to some extent (as evidenced by the adorable horns and pointy tails drawn all over his wanted posters). Notable exceptions are John, Sharky, Hurk, and Whitehorse; however, all but the first are functionally unknown to him.

Do they have any pets? Just Boomer, who is the best emotional support animal a disaster could ask for.

Are they good with kids? Animals? He’s naturally good with both children and animals, but he lacks practical experience, especially with the former (shout-out to the Ryes for finally adding that to his resume).

Which tropes do they fit? Which archetypes? Tropewise, he’s Troubled, but Cute and I can’t refute it; apart from the high school thing, it’s a full BINGO clear. He’s also Bruiser with a Soft Center, Inferiority Superiority Complex, Cosmic Plaything, Desperately Craves Affection, Hero with Bad Publicity, I Am Not My Father, and almost certainly a whole host of shameful others that I don’t dare brave the rest of TVTropes to find. Of the twelve classic archetypes, he’s some combination of The Hero and The Outlaw. Otherwise: fallen angel, antihero, byronic hero, prodigal son. 

Do they play any instruments? Sports? He can play guitar, but only at an intermediate level. He’s not big on sports, but he can ice skate and he likes to swim.

What are some items they always carry? Steel & Ivory and a lighter; later, Sin Eater. In New Dawn he carries John’s watch.

Fan Translation FAQ/ Missing chapters of Mairuma, EXPLAINED!!

So if you’ve been reading the manga on certain websites, you might have noticed big gaps in the chapters available in English:

In a nutshell: Chapters 123, 139, and 147* were translated by a different team, one unaffiliated with anyone currently working on the manga. These chapters were translated out of order, with no regard to the progress of the English translation. The gap chapters are not available in English (yet).

Read on to find out why!

But first, in order to understand this, you’ll need some background knowledge on how fan translations of manga work. (Skip to point 4 if you know all this already or just want the short version.)

Let’s start with the basics:

1) Nobody works for the website! I’ve seen this misunderstanding surprisingly often - the sites you read manga on are a bit like Reddit or Livejournal or any forum-type website, in that all of the content is user-created. Which leads me to:

2) Nobody gets paid! All that manga on mangadex is the product of many many individuals who just love manga and want to share it with others. These individuals form teams or ‘groups’ and work on one or more manga they like.

3) Groups are needed because flipping a manga chapter from another language into English…is hard! There are a few main positions:

Translator: this is self-explanatory. Translators are a coveted resource because it takes years to develop the necessary language skills, and most manga are absolutely chalk-full of wordplay puns, cultural references, and country-specific memes. The background knowledge required to localize stuff like this is extensive.

Proofreader: also self-explanatory, the proofreader proofreads!

Cleaner: This person takes out the original text and makes the manga look like it was always on a digital platform. This is a job of manual image processing to make each page go from grainy garbage to a nice, clear picture. The tricks to this are something that takes a while to learn, and you need some kind of photoshop-y program to do it.

Redrawer: Imagine trying to mimic your favorite art style, but you have to also contend with halftones/screentones and also it’s in the original manga. It’s hard T_T and it can be very time consuming. It’s how you get from point A to point B here:

Typesetter: This person sets the translated text into the manga. Sounds easy! Is not. What’s the best font to use? Capitalization? Alignment? Line spacing? Where should you break a line? What’s the best shape for the text? How can I mimic this weird text effect from the original manga? How do I deal with this goddamn bubble?!

QC: Makes sure everything looks good, makes changes as necessary, and polishes the final product. This team member is usually the most experienced with the entire process and helps make sure the newer team members don’t screw everything up make too many mistakes 😊

Finding someone who can do two or more of these jobs isn’t uncommon, but it’s very rare to find one person who can do them all. And even then, teams of 4+ are much faster and more likely to stick with a project, since splitting this between just a few people is back-breaking work!

4) Sniping (or, why you came here in the first place)

So like, why the gaps though!?

Short answer: Because the uploader was a jerk, that’s why!

Long answer: Every community has its trolls. When a group starts translating a manga, it is generally accepted that they’ve written their names on it, so to speak. It’s pretty rude to start translating a manga that already has a group working on it (rather than just asking to help lol). It’s just a dick move to translate a chapter 50-90 chapters ahead of the English language translation to give everyone spoilers. Unfortunately, that’s what happened to Mairimashita! Iruma-kun.

SSSSS (SSS?), the group responsible for all 3 of those chapters in the picture, is a somewhat notorious “sniping” group, which means they like to randomly translate chapters wildly out of order and context just to screw with the fans. (Note that they do this without contacting the group that is currently translating.) Chapters 123, 139, and 147 are examples of chapters that were sniped. If you look at the dates in the screenshot, 123 was uploaded 7 months ago, when the English translation had only reached…chapter 67, and Misfits Scans was nary a twinkle in anyone’s eye. Luckily, since Misfits organized and started regular updates, not many more of these sniped chapters have gone up.

So, when will the gap chapters be available?!!??!?!

Misfits Scans has been doing their best and working at breakneck speed to catch up to the Japanese release, but those gap chapters are going to take a while! At the current pace of 2 chapters/wk, you’ll be able to safely read chapter 147 in early September. But we do love our surprise extra releases 😉

Chapters of Mairimashita! Iruma-kun come out weekly in a magazine called Shonen Champion (It’s like Shonen Jump, but different). The original group decided on a considerably slower schedule than Misfits, releasing just one chapter per month. They did this from March of 2017, when the manga premiered, until enough fans got impatient because of the Anime in… about September, 2019. There was a big battle of the groups for a while in the fall, since being almost 100 chapters behind on such a popular manga was frustrating for the influx of anime fans. The original group gave up, and eventually a steady, much faster crew settled in to grind out the chapters we were missing. How the misfits formed is a heartwarming story of people the world over coming together through various roads and bonding through the long toil of fan translation…a story for another day!

I am fairly quick when it comes to building new characters, concepts, premises, storylines, backstories, etc… This means there is certain flexibility available which allows me to adjust. Even though it is a hobby, I am still extremely passionate about good storytelling and interesting character arcs. I hope to meet someone who is just as enthusiastic and willing to put in the same amount of effort as I am.  Pairing & Romance: Okay, right off the bat, I am a hopeless romantic through and through. I enjoy good and strong chemistry between characters just as much as the next, and this will be no exception. I prefer the good ol’ MxF pairing because I have more experience with this. But I also like playing a FxF dynamic or MxM. Everyone is welcome! When it comes to pairing itself, I want to make sure our creations are compatible, for I hate forcing characters into a romantic relationship for the sake of progression. A natural flow is what I am aiming for. ;)

 Mature? Yes, very much so:  Adult and taboo topics are absolute. There’s no way around it because, in my stories, it is a running theme. The adult world is not easy to handle, but it’s definitely interesting to explore. That includes violence, cursing, shocking content, and all that dark stuff. My limits are few, safe for a couple of minor pet peeves that I have, I am pretty much open to some experimentation. When it comes to action-heavy scenes (be it an intimate situation between two characters or something on a cataclysmic scale), I won’t fade to black since I am not a huge fan of censoring. However, I will not force or push my partner into something they are not comfortable with. As for smut or lemons, whatever you call it, it will never be the focus of any of my roleplays, but I enjoy a good erotic scene with a lot of tension (if they are good). 

 Boundaries: Not a big fan of things like pedophilia, necrophilia, scat, bestiality, or those dreaded ‘futas’.

Inspirations and interests: There’s a pretty broad spectrum of what I deem interesting and inspirational. From fallen angels and demon/monster hunters, mages, criminal masterminds, cybernetically enhanced characters to futuristic dystopian settings, ancient kingdoms who have fallen against the test of time. All of it causes my heart to skip a beat. For original content, I’ll just give a brief list of bullet points of the general themes that fall in line with my current interests. 

Writing: My texts are lengthy, detailed, and elaborate. Third-person is usually my preferred way of playing my character unless there’s a special case where an exception can be made. Word count usually fluctuates, though I have a standard form of 400-500+ words per response. It also highly depends on the given situation. I don’t want to set anything in stone… just to give you a basic idea of what you’re in for. I also expect my partner to have an at least adequate, if not decent grasp on basic grammar and punctuation. 

 Doubling: Yes, absolutely! If you are prone to doubling, chances are I might accept you as my partner straight away! Although I have nothing against the simple form of roleplaying, doubling is something I’ve done since my first time joining. 

 Characters: Very character-driven with the main focus being on interaction. I take my time writing characters and love nothing more than well-structured sheets that illustrate the vision of their creator. (But!) There’s no need to write 10-20 pages worth of character information, but I wouldn’t want to limit you either. As for the depiction of the given character, I won’t be as presumptuous as to tell you what sort of medium you can and cannot use. Face claims such as photos of real models, illustrations, 3D models, drawings or descriptions are all okay. As long as it gets its point across, I am happy.

 Aversions: A few minor things that irritate me, or let’s say, aren’t really my style are one-liners, low effort responses and out of character behaviors in canon characters. We all have different takes on characters, which is totally fine by me since I basically do the same. Though if the character acts and behaves unlike their personality dictates, it will break the immersion. I hope to stay true to my own words when saying this. If it happens on my side, just let me know! Another pet peeve of mine is that one plot that has been done time and time again…. and I’ve grown quite jaded towards it, which is ‘supernaturals trying to fit into human society’ thing… I mean, I’m not opposed to borrowing from this idea, but for me, it grew old pretty fast. Speaking from experience.

 Passione: My wish is to find a partner whom I can have a good time with and develop some chemistry. After all it is a fun hobby. We both should have fun with what we’re writing. Brainstorming among other things is one of my favorite things to do. To see how things unfold and how the characters react to the given situation is the highlight of any story.

FANDOM:



I love roleplaying fandoms just as much as I have a blast with building something original universes. Worldbuilding is my preferred cup of tea… but if we opt for something more fandom inspired, I highly welcome in on expanding on the given universe and add some original lore too!

Hellsing: Haven’t done that one before and I am curious as to how things play out, especially in such a dark and mystifying universe like Hellsing. There’s a lot of subject matter that we can delve into, plus I am a big fan of powerful vampire characters!

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: I would love you for this. No, seriously, I would. This fandom has sucked me into a downward spiral and there’s no possible chance of escaping this inescapable void. The absolute insanity of this franchise had me hooked from the second I laid eyes on it and I would be forever ecstatic if you’d message me on behalf of roleplaying Jojo. I have plenty of ideas for this one, just you wait.

Full Metal Alchemist: One of my favorite mangas and animes ever made. Recently I’ve begun rewatching FMA Brotherhood and felt a small hint of nostalgia swelling inside my blackened heart. I’d be open to play it, though it is not one of my top cravings at the moment.

Justice League / Young Justice / Justice League Dark: Huge DC fan, though I much prefer the animations and comics over the live-action cinematic. Let’s just say, I like the expansive and dynamic set of possibilities and deep, well-written cast. For instance Hellblazer Constantine or Raven.  

Bayonetta: Need I say more? Let’s dance boys!

Supernatural: From angels to demons, from gods to monsters, I’ve seen it all and I absolutely love it. There can be any sort of creature or being involved, ranging from vampires to sirens to elves, you have it. However, I’ve never done something quite relating to angelic beings and their offspring before. I’ve read up on Nephilim and angels and found it rather fascinating, and it’s a different approach from the usual vampire vs werewolf cliche. 


Crime and intrigue: I never stray too far from the supernatural path, but hell, there’s nothing better than some good old gritty mafia inspired stories with a complex cast of characters and a solid storyline.

Sci-fi and urban fantasy: So this could be basically anything from genetically engineered superhuman (superheroes / - villains) with a dark take on the human psyche, dismantling the idea of heroism and villainy. Or a world where mankind began their interstellar journey to colonize neighboring planets, galaxies before transcending their own humanity by merging themselves with deadly technology. I have a few plans for this…

Historical and mysterious setting: So one of my favorite eras is the Victorian time period, 30s - 40s - 80s, Renaissance or Ancient times during the rise of the Egyptian / Roman / Sumerian Empire. During these times, a dark discovery was made by man, learning that they were not alone in this world. In fact, they weren’t even the supreme race that destined themselves to dominate the world, for another race of humanoids have lied dormant deep beneath the earth, slumbering through the millennia only to be re-awakened by a cataclysmic event. These ancient humanoids are gods among men, superior in every way imaginable, and they have made it their mission to reclaim their right to rule. But their nature is not what most people think it is…

The idea: I have an idea for a plot, in which I can give you if you ask for it. It is however merely a suggestion for what we could write - not a mandatory thing. If you don’t like the idea, we can always figure stuff out and keep on home-brewing till we find something we both can enjoy. There’s no need to immediately end things if the first thing doesn’t really fire you up.

Okay, in order, it seems to be hexadecimals, Javascript (you can tell from the “const”), some kind of profiles which are apparently for human lab rats (which seem to have some kind of nonsense filler text), a DNA model and DNA bases (ACGT).

The text on the screen says something along the lines of this being an official broadcast of this man’s arrest and this man was a genetic researcher. Obviously, if I wanted to put more attention into what it meant, I would, but I won’t sweat the details this time (because it doesn’t seem to impact the plot).

The guy’s name is Minor because minor key (geddit?)…that’s my guess.

I started playing the game due to this anime, if you didn’t know, and I unlocked an expert in ch. 2. I thought he was Minor, but turns out his name is Spine (an older man).

The diary, true to form, contains details about either one case or several cases, two involving children. The bottom of the 1st page says “if it’s fake, I’ll laugh”.

Hey, I once told Crunchyroll I wanted an anime about hacking (so is this a dream come true? I reveal all in the next sentence!). Hackers don’t congregate like this…they’d be too conspicuous, even with the secret hideout!

The code in the top left appears to be…C? I think? (Note they declare “unsigned int”.)

“Daisuke-sama” isn’t “Lord Daisuke”, it would be “Sir Daisuke”, I think…but “lord” has a proper translation in Japanese.

The truck has a Shinagawa licence plate. Anime really does like Shinagawa, huh? (Based on ID: INVADED and this.)

I think it’ll be interesting to see Kambe handle this without HEUSC.

The board for Sanchome (which is equivalent to a suburb…or a county, I guess?) has posters saying stuff like “take your dog poop home” and “let’s protect the environment!” (technically, it says “let’s protect the region/area!”, but that doesn’t translate right. There’s even a flea market. Still, those posters don’t have any big hints…not that I know of so far.

I kind of forgot that dude was the gardener for Kambe’s house…er, mansion.

I noticed a poster in the kouban says haru (spring) on it. That’s probably the same one that Haru’s name is signified by, assuming that’s not in combo with another character or few.

I noticed Kambe uses shinseki (which doesn’t refer to close family). “Relative” is a correct translation of that word, I just wanted to check that word was the right one for the context.

1. What would prevent you from following someone?

There’s plenty of reasons why I wouldn’t follow someone, but they mostly all boil down to age, writing compatibility, and any negative past experiences.

I’m not comfortable writing with those who are under 18, even if I’m not writing various NSFW topics with them in particular. Considering Danganronpa and my muse, there’s inevitably a lot of violence and gore in canon and my Sonia headcanons (backed up by both the game and the DR3 anime, depending on how you read her lines) have her sexually active (she’s 18 or over in all scenes of this nature that I write for her, under cuts, and tagged #nsfw). I’d prefer if those under 18 didn’t interact with my blog for those reasons.

Writing compatibility is a bit more broad, but I’ll include some of the main things I look for:

- If the RP blog is mostly an ask blog, one liners, and/or crack. This is the biggest indicator that our writing styles won’t work. I’m mostly a multi-para to novella writer with very rare instances of crack RP. This is my preferred style and I like to write with fellow writers who enjoy it too!

- If I have to scroll through several pages to find IC content. There’s nothing wrong with sharing gifsets, moodboards, quotes, memes, etc. But if I can’t find any IC content easily (I tend to look 10 or so pages back for most blogs that follow me or I want to follow), I likely won’t follow them. Especially if it’s mostly OOC posts that have nothing to do with RP (politics, gofundmes, random shared content that has nothing to do with their muses, etc). I try to be an active IC blog and, when finding new people to write with, I check their activity too. 

- If I don’t know the muse/fandom and there’s no crossover verse I can use. Admittedly, most of my anime fandom knowledge is focused on shows considered ‘old’ these days (I’m still shocked that things like Gurren Lagann and Haruhi Suzumiya are considered old now. Most of my favorite anime were released before the year 2005), though there are a few instances where someone’s portrayal of a muse made me want to check out their respective fandom (shoutout to @spurnedadulthood​ and @monsieur-de-paris​!). But even if I don’t know the muse or their fandom, I try to look for a crossover verse I can place my muse in. Modern AUs, historical AUs, and Danganronpa crossovers are the main ones I tend to look for. The same goes for OCs. But unfortunately, it’s often hard for me to place my muse in verses of currently popular fandoms (though I’m waiting for the day Lupin III muses come visit my princess, and I would put in the work to find Sonia a place in Cowboy Bebop, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Rose of Versailles, and possibly Evangelion verses. And really, any anime/manga/game that’s Europe-based and historical-inspired can work for me!).

- If there’s pressure to auto-ship. I’m not fond of auto-shipping and prefer to let Sonia take the reins as to if she wants to ship with your muse or not.

- If the blog is mostly smut. I write smut, but I prefer to weave those scenes in with a larger plot. I often get the feeling that when blogs that focus predominately on smut follow me, it’s only for shipping and smut purposes, which I’m not comfortable with.

- If I cannot find a rules, about, or mun page, or if I can’t read your writing aesthetic. I usually need all three of these to figure out who your muse is, what you do or do not want to RP, and your mun name/pronouns/age/time zone. I also can’t read double small text or text with unnecessary spaces for aesthetic purposes, but the new tumblr update is helping with that.

Otherwise, the only other reason why I might not follow (or in this case, follow back) is if the mun is someone I haven’t gotten along well with in the past. Everyone has a few people in the RPC that they don’t get on with (from what I can tell, at least!), and I’d need to chat with that person OOC through messenger to see if interacting again is a good idea.

A reminder/A bit of wholesomeness...

I just wanted to post a little reminder now the ego art weeks are ‘over’ (perhaps, for now 🤔). There doesn’t have to be a specific event in order for you to create stuff. These events bring people together and certainly make it easier to get the creative juices flowing, sure, and I and others are beyond grateful to Seán for hosting the event, but that doesn’t have to end. Everything you make and post can, and will, still have value for someone.

Art: Art is important. I haven’t even been active on Tumblr for a year yet (a year at the end of the month) and I’ve only been active on Twitter for just under 18 months, but I’m already getting to recognise lots of your amazing art styles, and watching your amazing growth just in the short time I’ve been here has been amazing! I love seeing what new ideas you all come up with, new styles you’re all trying, new things you’re experimenting with. I also love seeing “new” artists pop up, and getting show love to and support their work.

GIFs: Recording memorable moments as GIFs? Hell yeah! Recording positive speeches and nuggets of advice? Hell Yeah! Getting quality reaction material? Hell Yeah! Animations, or edited GIFs from the original to make something even MORE creative? Hell damn yeah! I love a good GIF of all kinds and all “skill levels”. And the creative way you guys arrange some of them to make song lyrics, for example, colour patterns, all sorts of things, blows my mind.

Edits: I’ve used many amazing as wallpapers in my time (the ones that allow permission of course) and had a laugh or shed a tear at many awesome video edits, and you’re all SO talented! And again, just like art, I’m recognising some of your editing styles as well. The way you have all learned to use transitions and new filters is amazing! It is appreciated by everyone more than you probably know.

Stories: To my shame, I don’t interact much with a lot of fan fiction, but I often read when I see in the tag or it comes up in the tag. I sometimes feel bad for that though, because I know creators like Seán can’t interact very much with fanfiction in case them doing so means it is taken as canon lol. But DAMN are some of you fantastic with words! You know your ways around a pen/a keyboard better than I could ever hope to in a million years. And I’m sure that a lot of fanfiction has probably inspired a lot of other art and creative posts too. Keep doing what you’re doing writers everywhere!

Theories: Oh boy do I love reading these 😂 And often get scared by how much Seán may have seen and the ideas he may have got looool. It always keeps my mind racing at various times of the day, gets my own ideas pumping (if only I was creative enough to actually put some of them into fruition). One of my favourite things about theories as well is how they can get a dialogue going between community members which is always fun to see the back and forth of that, and coming to an eventual conclusion (or not!) Keep it up guys! 💚

Yeah, they can get samey, but at the same time, many people love them and will appreciate them regardless. The beauty of memes is that they are evolving all the time and it’s always fun to watch you guys using your creativity to come up with new memes, or make new takes on old meme formats and long running community jokes.

What I have liked about these Egoartweeks is that it’s kind of shifted people’s thinking. People seemed to have realised that there was a disconnect between the types of content that people regularly interact with, and these weeks have kind of given people a renewed inspiration to create anything, and a renewed wish to see all kinds of posts, not just a certain kind, which is fantastic!

The message to come out of these few weeks, is that creating because you love creating, for the love of sharing your creations with others, is the most important thing. Whatever you can post contributes to this community, and could inspire others in their ideas and creative journeys too! But what’s also important to remember is that it’s not the type of post that’s important. It’s YOU that’s important. YOU are the thing that matters. Not your follower count. Not keeping up a consistent amount of notes on every single post, it’s okay if one doesn’t get as many. What matters is your enjoyment of what you do! Don’t think that your work is any less important than any other creator for any reason. If you are having fun creating it, if you put as much time and effort into creating it as you were able and you were happy enough with the results to post it, to me that is the MOST important thing, the fact that you are making something that you enjoy and want to share that with people, it is highly appreciated, by me, by others, and by Seán and any creator you may or may not be aiming the post at, if they happen to see it.

Keep posting and interacting with what you love for as long as you love making/seeing it. Know that there will always be someone out there who appreciates who you are and what you create, even if you haven’t found your audience yet. Keep creating for as long as you want to, and don’t let anyone or anything change your ideas. Because I seriously love you guys, I’m glad you’re all here, and I hope you know the immense value that you all bring to this community and to the world 💚 Established event or not
