Story at-a-glance
Osteoporosis affects millions, often silently until a fracture occurs. Risk factors include age, diet, activity level, hormones and certain medications. DEXA scans diagnose it, and doctors often prescribed drugs immediately after routine examinations
Calcium and vitamin D are crucial for bone health. Sunlight exposure boosts vitamin D, but caution is needed if linoleic acid intake is high. Magnesium and vitamin K2 also support bone mineral density
Protein, especially collagen, is essential for bone strength. Balancing collagen and meat intake is important, as excessive red meat negatively impacts bone mass. Bone broth from organic sources is recommended
Exercise strengthens bones through impact and resistance. Blood flow restriction training (KAATSU) improves bone density without lifting heavy weights, making it suitable for people with lower bone mineral density
Whole-body vibration therapy shows promise in increasing bone mineral density and reducing fracture risk, particularly in postmenopausal women and the elderly. It also offers cognitive benefits

The update
Alright here’s that life update I threatened to post last week. The tl;dr version is that I am in a slightly different place in my life compared to the last time I posted (2020 to early 2021ish), but in many ways I feel like I’m in a similar place in my life as I was in my early 20s, and it’s made me miss posting on tumblr.
2021: this was a year with a lot of career growth for me - we were getting a lot of new projects, and I was able to join projects in roles that I had not previously filled before. Halfway through the year, I found out that we were being acquired by a much larger consulting firm. There were many benefits and drawbacks that came (and continue to come) from that. From a fitness perspective, I also trained for and completed my second Ironman (it was actually 2 years ago exactly today.) Shortly after that race, things got *very* busy at work.
Tumblr media
2022: late 2021 to early 2022 was the most stressful period of my life with respect to work. There were times that I was working on 5-8 projects at once, and trying to be the project manager/primary contact on 3 at once. March/April 2022 was definitely a low point for me, and I was starting to get very burned out. Around this time I finally started rolling off of projects, but it took me until probably August/September to feel motivated by periods of stress instead of worn down/frustrated by them. This time period definitely took a toll on my fitness too. I completed a marathon in April (I think my mileage maxed out at 30, so I was likely operating off of old Ironman fitness), and I did a few summer triathlons too. In the Fall I trained for another marathon, but unfortunately had my first DNF due to knee pain from mile 13-18.
Tumblr media
2023: This year has been much more manageable from a work perspective - I’ve been the project manager on one project, and have supported a handful of other projects/internal efforts to a lesser degree. This year has been even worse than the last in terms of fitness though, because I was dealing with hip pain from January through July. I started physical therapy for it in March, and did a PRP injection at the end of June. So far I’ve been doing well since ending PT, though I haven’t really had a chance to built my fitness back up.
So I guess that brings me to the present day - I want to figure out what fitness means for me in my 30s. I would love to get back to the level of fitness I had in my 20s, but I do think that I prioritized my level of fitness over other important areas of my life before, and I don’t want to do that again (or at the very least, I don’t want to do that for long periods of time). I don’t want to let my house to become an absolute wreck, and I want to make sure that I’m maintaining my joints/ligaments/bones so I can keep doing this for a long time. I actually got a dexa scan done last year, and between the results of that (I was in the 24th percentile) and my recent joint issues, I think strength training needs to be a priority, even if it’s not my favorite type of workout. I know being in your 30s doesn’t make you old, and many people reach peak fitness in their 30s, but I’m starting to realize that I need to do things differently now if I want to be one of those people.

March 2023 monthly summary
Well, fuck. I had this all typed out and somehow it went away! grrr... Try again...
I feel like I'm singing the same song as last month, scale stopped moving the last week or so of the month. So frustrating.
Goals I had for this month were:
Continue 16:8 intermittent fasting ✅ Some days longer, some shorter, but overall got this done.
Continue 7x a week workout, at least 30 minutes each. ❌ I fell off this wagon when I got food poisoning, broke my 80 day streak of working out, but I've been doing 5x a week. Going to try and get back to 7x a week though, at least 1/2 hr.
On 3 days a week, add in an additional workout to the day, to bring the time up to 1 hour. ❌ Didn't even try. Where has my motivation gone?
Continue Hip Opening challenge; restart it when it is done. Take progress pictures. ❌ Gave up on this for now. It was hurting my psoas muscle SO MUCH. I did see an LMT who did an amazing/surprising job of helping that. It's not 100% yet, but will see him again and then try this hip opening yoga again.
Evaluate ability to go back to walking on the beach after Dr. appointment March 7th ✅ I did evaluate, and no go. After wasting a month with freezing this plantar wart and that having ZERO EFFECT, he finally put acid on it. That had an effect! Huge, painful blister. I am HOPING this will actually kill that damn thing finally. I go back to dr next week.
Keep tracking food; keep carbs and calories within goals ✅ Except for one day on a family visit where i ate everything that was served, I have kept carbs and calories within goals. I also didn't fall into a sugar-binge after having that one day of indulgence, which is a pretty huge win.
TAXES!!! ✅❌ Well, I didn't actually get the taxes done, but I got everything READY to do them, so I'll have them done by the 15th, likely sooner. Counting it as a win.
Remember this is about HEALTH not just weight. Keep your blood sugar in check! ✅ I don't have a blood sugar monitor ... should I get one? IDK, I don't really want to stick one of those things on my arm, tbh. But I feel like the low/healthy carbs I'm eating are keeping it in check.
Don't give up. ✅ Have not given up.
Other things I did that weren't on the list:
Got Mammogram and Dexa bone scan. Still waiting on results. I am afraid the bone scan is going to show osteoporosis, in which case I need to get more serious about weight bearing exercise and strength training.
March 31st graphs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
What to do for April:
Seriously, get your taxes filed.
Continue 16:8 fasting and low carb eating.
If scale doesn't move, lower net carbs more (?)
7 days a week workout, minimum 1/2 hr a day.
Go back to walking when toe allows.
See LMT about hip/Psoas issue. Try hip opening challenge again when feasible.
Schedule colonoscopy.
Remember this is about HEALTH not just weight. Keep your blood sugar in check!
Don't give up.

I’m so sorry you’re having weight loss issues, Ruin. Is your metabolism all messed up by any chance? Are you stressed? Do you sleep 8-9 hours a night? If yes to any of these, it could be why you’re not losing weight. Of course there could be a million reasons and you’ve been through a lot over the years, so I’m not going to say it’s definitely something.
so back in 2018-2019, i lost 100lbs, and as a result my metabolism slowed to a crawl - i know for certain, because i got a proper RMR (resting metabolic rate) test done when i got my DEXA body scan. it was shockingly bad, and it explained why i despite my progress and months and months of sticking to my plan, i couldn't lose any more than the first 100lbs
i spent the next 2 years rebuilding my metabolism, eating a little more each week carefully to help fix it and help it recover. i maintained my lowest weight despite the increased calories for all of 2020 and 2021. but last year, my weight skyrocketed again and i put 30lbs back on, which is absolutely devastating after i worked so hard to get it off
now, it's been a long time since i had the tests done and i'd need to get them done again to see where my metabolism is at now - but the place that did mine back then has closed, and most other places charge way too much and i can't really afford it. still, after literal years of increased calories and no dieting, my metabolism should be recovered by now
i sleep 7-8 hours a night every night without fail, always from 8-something-pm at night through to 4-something-am in the morning. i have the average amount of stress, but i'm not under terrible strain right now. with the VLCD i have just tried for the last three weeks, after so many years without dieting, the weight should be coming off steadily - but it's not. eating at such a high caloric deficit and not seeing any results is deeply worrying, and i have no idea what to do about it. i may just have to take different approach like keto or IF and see how i fare
thank you so much for the help and advice, love. it’s always great to have someone to talk to about things that are getting to me <3

This is about Dexa's (https://www.tumblr.com/cyanogen-miasma/760449375772311552/sorry-i-turned-dexa-into-a-lizor?source=share) species, who were originally called Cryo-Cats back when I was fucking 12. I have to change that 1) because it sucks 2) because they aren't cats anymore, they are lizardy looking things
their new lore is that they are articifical silicon-based life created as an experiment by the Sapiovenators, who survived the K-Pg extinction and evolved into spohonts of their own. They can only live at the poles because the silicon compounds they are made of are really unstable and break down in temperate temperatures - hence 'Cryo'. So, there are two ways I could go about naming them, reference to their silicon basis, and reference to their icy habitat. Lorewise, I'm not sure they would have known that they were silicon-based before naming themselves, so Cryons makes more sense, but Silicians sounds nice, it rolls off the tongue, it feels slippery like ice. and I'm not fucking making a conlang for them, Astrodopteran is enough for me right now lol

Women's Health Check-ups: What Every Woman Should Know
Many say women’s health is a complex matter, but it can surely be monitored through medical tests and screening averting many complications.Comprehensive Womens Health Checkups Packages ensure that you get all the necessary tests that can cause havoc in later life and take action immediately. When it comes to taking control of your own body, women must know these few tests that can offer more insight into their current health conditions.
1. Blood Pressure Test
Blood pressure screening is conducted at Manipal Labs for almost every patient coming for any sort of health check-up. It is sort of a preliminary measure that we take for all walking inside our facility for a medical test or screening.
2. Blood Sugar Test
Blood sugar test is also common beyond gender and now even age. The blood sugar levels are indicators of several health complications including diabetes. A problem like diabetes can be treated with medicines accompanied by particular lifestyle changes. The Best Women's Health Check-Up Packages have blood sugar screening for women of all ages.
3. Eye Examination
Manipal Health Checkup has an option for an eye examination to test out minor to major problems. Eye complications can lead to certain vision impairments and other problems with the eye. Medication and surgical methods are implemented to treat such cases.
4. Dental Tests
The importance and impact of teeth can be felt only after they have been damaged beyond repair. To avoid such a condition, occasional dental tests are required to determine dental problems that can wreak havoc in the future.
5. Cholesterol Test
The Best Women's Health Check-Up Packages feature cholesterol tests for women preventing the risk of sudden heart diseases. High cholesterol levels contribute to various health problems and increase the risk of the heart.
6. X-Ray For Lung Cancer
The 21st-century lifestyle changes coupled with the growing air pollution have severely increased the risk of developing lung cancer for all. However, a lung cancer test can reveal any underlying health conditions plaguing the body and prompt you to take immediate action.
7. HPV Screening
The Womens Health Checkups Packages may include a few cancer screenings that can help medical staff at least rule out the possibility of growing carcinogens around different parts of the body. Cervical cancer is referred to as cancerous cell growth around the cervix area of a woman that can be tracked through an HPV screening.
8. Breast Cancer Test
The severity of breast cancer can only be better understood through a mammogram. Whether you have a family medical history of cancer or not, breast cancer affects a great number of women and it can only be identified through frequent screening.
9. Colon Cancer Screening
Manipal Lab Tests for cancer detection also include colon cancer screening. Colon cancer can be hard to identify due to the polyp seemingly being harmless at first. Timely screening and colonoscopy can offer better insight into the situation.
10. Bone Density Test
Women tend to suffer from many bone-related diseases and disorders as they get older. The bones tend to get thinner with age and from earlier injuries and health complications. As the bone density declines several more problems show up. A bone density test or DEXA scan is conducted to investigate the damage and to plan a better tomorrow.
Conclusion
The best Womens  Health Checkups Packages ensure you get all the necessary tests conducted that could reveal the true extent of your current health conditions. This is why it is essential for every human being especially women to get a full-body panel screening every 3-6 months. They can warn you of potential health hazards that can affect your life in the future and ways to prevent or manage the condition.

I am grateful for...
Tightness. My muscles feel tight. The scale weight has stayed relatively flat, but I think I might be recomping - gaining muscles and losing fat. I will know with my upcoming DEXA scan.
Instagram profile link. For years, I wasn't able to link my Instagram profile to my blog. The Tumblr link was flagged for some odd reason. Yesterday I tried again and it worked.
Depleting my frozen food stash. I am slowly working down my frozen food supply. My freezer is no longer overflowing.
Uber employee credit. I use the monthly credit to buy groceries. My grocery bill has dropped since working at Uber.
EQ bank GIC maturity. I can move my funds from EQ to Tangerine to take advantage of the temporary 6% interest promotion.
Understanding what the central nervous system does. After listening to the Mindpump guys reference CNS multiple times, I finally get it. Here's an example that I could relate to: if you get a poor night sleep, you can't lift as heavy. Your muscles have not shrunk overnight, but your central nervous system is shot so you can't activate your muscles to your potential. Viola! I get it now.
Hitting an income goal. I had a number in my head several years ago. When I received my T4 slip this week, I was utterly surprised. I hit it. It wasn't just simple income, there were RSUs involved so it's kind of cheating. But I'm still surprised to see the number.

In the pursuit of optimal health and fitness, understanding your body’s composition is key. Thanks to advancements in technology, we now have access to cutting-edge tools like DEXA body scans, which provide detailed insights into bone density, body fat distribution, and more. At Liquivida Wellness in Fort Lauderdale, we offer state-of-the-art DEXA body scans to help you embark on a journey of health and wellness. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll explore the significance of DEXA body scans and how they can empower you to make informed decisions about your well-being.
What is DEXA? Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry, or DEXA, is a precise and non-invasive technology originally developed to assess bone mineral density. Over time, its applications have expanded to include a comprehensive analysis of body composition. The DEXA scanner uses low-dose X-rays to differentiate between various tissues, such as bone, muscle, and fat, providing highly accurate measurements.
Key Benefits of DEXA Body Scan:
Accurate Bone Density Assessment: DEXA is the gold standard for evaluating bone health. By measuring bone mineral density, it helps in the early detection of conditions like osteoporosis, allowing for proactive management and prevention of fractures.
Insight into Body Fat Distribution: Unlike traditional scales that only provide overall body weight, DEXA breaks down body fat into specific regions. This information is crucial for tailoring fitness and nutrition plans, as well as monitoring progress in targeted areas.
Visceral Fat Analysis: Understanding the distribution of visceral fat, the fat surrounding internal organs, is essential for assessing the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. DEXA provides a detailed analysis of visceral fat, enabling proactive lifestyle adjustments.
Muscle Mass Evaluation: DEXA distinguishes between lean muscle mass and fat mass, offering a comprehensive view of body composition. This insight is valuable for athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and individuals working towards specific body composition goals.
Personalized Health Planning: Armed with precise data from a DEXA body scan, healthcare professionals and fitness experts can create personalized plans tailored to your unique needs. Whether you’re focused on weight loss, muscle gain, or overall well-being, DEXA provides the foundation for targeted strategies.

hey so weighing yourself every day is actually the inefficient way to do it. the scale will go up and down for lots of reasons: water weight, food in your stomach, hormones (which can be triggered by stress or exhaustion). weighing yourself like 3-4 times a week (and at the same time each time, preferably in the morning prior to eating) is more than enough. you dont have to make micro changes every day. look up a TDEE calculator, input your info, and use that to determine how much to eat daily. weight loss is a marathon babes, don’t sweat the small stuff
thank you for the advice! i can try to switch to every second day, but honestly i don't think it would make too much difference to what i'm doing now - and the micro changes help me a lot to keep on track!
also, online calculators are sadly useless for me - i've got a badly damaged BMR. according to online calculators at my size, height, and age, my base metabolic rate should be 2,108 calories per day. i've been properly tested (multiple DEXA scans and BMR tests) and my actual BMR is only 1,530, despite my size. if i followed online calculators i would be overeating nearly 600 calories per day and rapidly gaining weight. my new food plan of 200 calories every 3 hours has helped me maintain my 1,000 cal total, and i'm losing weight steadily, but if i'm not careful and i eat too much of the wrong thing it really messes with my numbers
the problem with weight loss being a marathon is that i am the kind of runner who has trouble every few steps. i really do have to keep focus on the small stuff, or i will snap my proverbial ankle and never make the finish line at all
