the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? I just made my own post instead of dumping this on a reblog bc it's not a big deal but....when did Martin Scorcese become a stand-in for "guy who makes gangster movies" or "film-bro pretentious?"

Most of Scorcese's films are not about gangsters. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, New York New York, The King of Comedy, The Age of Innocence, and in fact pretty much every major Scorcese film that most people have seen that isn't Goodfellas or The Departed...is not a film about gangsters. (Mean Streets is great but it's a deeper cut). Gangs of New York, I think you could put in that category, but it's also a historical period piece and not the Goncharov'd/Godfather'd aesthetic that you would associate with a "gangster movie." Oh, I forgot The Irishman, but come on, that one only came out a few years ago and I know none of y'all watched it or remembered it unless you were a huge film nerd. I didn't even get into it.

When did Scorcese, of all people, become the stand-in for "filmmaker people assume is pretentious?" Was it when he said everything correctly wrong with Marvel films? Or on this site maybe Goncharov effect?

EDIT: I also totally forgot about The Departed, which I guess from one point of view is a "gangster film" (or really, a crime film). I distinguish between films like Goodfellas or The Godfather which are what most people think of as "gangster films" in that they focus on the perspective of people in organized crime vs "cops vs robber" films like Heat which usually include the perspective of law enforcement and The Departed is the later, but that's splitting hairs. It's a crime film, sure, and also a thriller.

I struggled for like fifteen minutes just sitting there on the pause menu trying to pick UGHHH but I ended up going with Helen in the end simply because I think she can bring slightly more value to the team (NOT TO SAY LAZAR IS USELESS HE'S EXTREMELY HANDY AND VERY COOL AND I LOVE HIM) just because of her connection with MI6 and her ability to gather intel and all that good stuff and I'm just ever so slightly more attached to her as a character and I also got the impression Lazar really liked her a lot so I would've felt worse saving him and knowing he missed her like a crap ton so in the end I think I made the better decision

i am learning so much about how sometimes when you ask a question at work that looks like it should have two options, there is a secret third option to the question that you did not know about, and somehow that's the answer. for example: today i got into work, picked up my work laptop from my boss's office (as i always do), logged on, and found that all of my files were missing and most of my internet permissions were heavily restricted. so obvs i was like. ok, either there's been some kind of weird policy switch or there's a tech issue, and either way i should check in with my boss!

and my boss was like "did you get that laptop from on the chair?" and when i responded in the affirmative i found out that what had happened was that the laptop i'd picked up was the laptop that was recently set up for my boss, completely visually identical to mine. so there were actually two laptops and mine was tucked away in the laptop bag where i left it. i don't know what the moral of this story is

And like. I can't help but to wonder if Kuma's flashback is going to tie to the backstory of the Revolutionary Army and how he joined the cause, especially since we are going to learn about Iva-chan's backstory at the same time backstory (and Bonney's??? Mom??? I'm assuming???)

And while I don't think we're going to learn much about Dragon through this backstory because. IDK I feel like Oda would save that for later, right now doesn't feel like The Time To Reveal Dragon's Backstory. Not to mention, if this backstory is meant to be About Kuma first and foremost, then adding Dragon into this mix would just distract from Kuma and Bonney's relationship, the current heart of the story (also is why I want to believe Ginny is Bonney's mom, since that would also tie to the heart of the story)

But I can't help but to wonder... if Crocodile was a member of the Revolutionary Army for a while, then might we see him even just briefly at some point during this flashback? Maybe? Perhaps? Even for just a panel or two? Please? Pretty please? 👉👈
