im so mad. i've been in mourning and a state of constant rage for palestine for the past few years, and these past weeks have been especially devastating. while im not palestinian myself, i have friends and family that are, and i cant help but be on edge about the things they cant afford to think about right now.

i read their 'thought piece'. its nothing new on that front, and thats why it makes me so mad. im really struggling to connect with the blind, white-american privilege of calling for non-violence in the face of a genocidal apartheid regime. the fucking gall of these so-called western intellectuals to preach how rampant anti-intellectualism has become just to turn around and buy into some colonial playbook of peace shit is hilarious. people i thought were with me on this, not only on palestinian liberation but on liberation full stop, have been a constant disappointment. i cut off so many ppl i called friends over the absolute lack of grace and empathy they handled this with. when are white western 'activists' going to stop treating us like timed bombs of irrationality?

this part in particular kept coming up and made me feel like i was going insane:

This genocide has started way before oct 7th, israel is an occupying force that's been oppressing Palestinians for at least 50 years.

The 20% Palestinian population living in israel is subjected to apartheid, police violence and displacement from their homes.

They are not recognized as citizens, the ppl in gaza and the westbank cannot vote in israeli elections despite israel controlling those regions.

Gaza has been under siege for 16 years now. They've been controlling who goes in and out, Palestinians have to ask for permission to leave their cities even if they want to access medical care that isnt provided in gaza due to sanctions by israel.

Why does the financial interest of israel and its ally's trump the right of palestinian freedom? When the money they are making from military technologie is tested on the palestinians? Whats worse is that bombing of gaza has not just taken 33.000 lives, it has also poisoned and destroyed the land that israel claims it has a spiritual right to!

A land already drenched in the blood of thousands of palestinians spilled during and since the inception of israel in 1948. It has poisoned their future and made sure gaza will have to depend on aid for years and maybe even decades to come.

That is why Palestinians need to be able to return to their stolen land and they have a right to return home, even beyond legality israel is an ethno state that guarantees citizenship to -anyone- of the jewish faith even if they have no connection to the land.

What is the point of the UN and EU if we dont use our power to protect human rights everywhere, members of the UN like germany, france, USA and Britain actively funding the bombing of civilians, while claiming solidarity with the victims.

All this talking behind the scenes is doing nothing! Rn netanyahu is pulling back his forces from the south of gaza so they can take a nap, see their families, have a little snack and then go into rafah and kill the remaining 2.2 million Palestinians they told to flee there.

i think people vastly overestimate Biden's power in this whole situation. Like i think he could be doing way better but also Israel isnt nearly as beholden the US as people seem to think. Israel is already fueled by a weapons-grade victim complex where theyre convinced that theyre the underdog with everyone against even with a global superpower on their side. Biden telling them to fuck off would only strengthen that resolve.

So I think you're ignoring that Israel itself is not a monolith, but made of millions of people who themselves vary in political opinion. The Israeli left is not what I would call ideal, in terms of policy choice around Gaza, but decisions made under Netanyahu's government are not the same as the broad opinion of Israel are not the same what might occur given political shifts. I do think Biden could come out much more against the government but not Israel the Abstract Entity* and thereby opposes these actions being taken can help shift support.

Similarly, weapons shipments are not making or breaking the genocide here**, but "The US is threatening to stop weapons shipments over Gaza" would not exactly help Netanyahu's position. It's also not controlled directly by Biden but by Congress, which itself is filled with people in heavy support of Israel and fearing public opinion. On the other hand, part of a politicians job is to lead public opinion, not blindly follow it, and while Israel is a goddamn quagmire of US public opinion, threading the needle is neither impossible nor implausible.

I think a lot of commentary on this get dumb because the loudest voices tend to be modeling the world in a very simplified, "US and it's colonies/satellite states" way where of course the US can tell Israel what to do, that's how it works in the colonialism***, or just the idiotic "WHY IS BIDEN TALKING AND NOT DOING SOMETHING" camp that treats the presidency as a sort of rule by fiat. It makes it much more frustrating to discuss the actual flaws in Biden's policy here.
