I'm obsessed with the way commander omo is in the beginning of this book. He knows that his radiancy is Fitzroy angersell. He knows that he needs space and time and help to reveal that.

Commander omo is so hopeful he will be able to on the trip.

When he asks cliopher what his radiancy told him on the porch that has him so shocked ... I didn't realize it before, but he's asking "do you know?"

The thing that got me though is when they are sitting on the beach watching his radiancy swim and talking about maybe being less formal. And they aren't sure. And commander omo says 'wh3n has he ever given us reason to think he would punish us for impudence?"

It's such a gentle push. And he knows his lord so well and I just ... It's so... Loving. They all love him so much. Even now when they only know one small, traumatized part of him

Since these asks are sort of related, I decided to combine them into one!

First of all, thank you all so much, both for your words and prayers! I'm so pleased that you're enjoying ATLWETD and that you're thinking of me.

Some of Tom's thought processes will become clearer later on, but I don't mind offering the specifics, especially since we won't be getting his POV until the middle of the story.

Tom has been using his mood stone on Harry repeatedly. He's been mystified by all the emotions Harry seems to be alternating between, and one in particular has intrigued him most, which is attraction.

Tom's been wondering about the specific nature of their 'alternative world' relationship for a while, and now he's begun to suspect that maybe they were romantically involved - or on the brink of becoming involved. He's curious and fascinated by this possibility. He wanted Harry to answer him truthfully, and Harry saying "I don't know" proved his hypothesis that while they weren't together, they were probably about to be in some near future.

If you liked Tom using Harry's things, just wait until the Tie Saga in the next chapter :D It'll be hilarious. Poor Harry will be so confused and frustrated by Tom's actions.

Now, why is Tom doing that? A part of it is him testing how receptive Harry is to something this intimate. To him, it's yet another indication that they were closer than friends, and since Harry doesn't react, it's probably something the other Tom did, too. Another big reason is the violation of boundaries. Tom feels entitled to Harry, to everything he is and everything he owns. He views Harry as his thing, his personal person, and he's determined to take his freedom piece by piece because Harry is supposed to be an extension of him, in his eyes. There is genuine possessiveness in him as well.

Making Harry a part of the Knights also feels into this context. Tom wants Harry to be involved in his life to the fullest extent. He's interested in seeing what Harry is going to think and how he's going to react to some of his plans and ideas. Tom has seen valuable qualities in Harry, and he wants to use them for his benefit.

What Tom felt when Harry hugged him - uncertainty, mostly. Unexpected warmth. Fascination. Some awkwardness. It's one thing to build theories about their alleged romantic relationship, but it's another to get a more physical confirmation of it.

Tom isn't planning or not planning to become involved with Harry romantically right now. He's just watching how everything unfolds, and he's increasingly interested in being surprised and experiencing something new.

Beel cries occasionally, I dont think he cries to often but he does cry. Beel may cry if he ends up to hungry, like while he's rampaging around and destroying stuff he's got tears falling down his face or something. Beel may even cry if the food is just so good, but this doesn't happen often. Beel mostly cries over family matters, like Lillith. He may cry if like fighting in between the brothers gets to bad, but I dont really see that happening often. Beel mostly cries when he has nightmares over Lillith's death, or if hes just thinking of Lillith.

The first time Mc finds Beel crying, Mc doesn't actually find him, Beel finds Mc. Mc has been staying in Beel's room, since Beel had accidently broke the kitchen wall, making it to where Mc's room couldn't be slept in. Mc and Beel get along well so it really hadn't been a problem so far, Mc slept in Beel's bed and Beel slept on a couch. (If i remember correctly) mc had been sound asleep until they were shaken awake by someone, they open their eyes to find Beel crouched by their bed crying. Beel gets straight to the point- "...sorry for waking you Mc..I had a nightmare..will you stay up with me for a little while..?" Honestly only a heart of stone could deny this sad puppy boy. So Mc sits up just to realize they are in their sheep form? Sheep Mc sighs realizing they must have turned into a sheep while sleeping due to feeling so safe and comfortable. Sheep Mc considers turning back to normal but when Beel gently scoops them into his arms, Sheep Mc decides to stay as a sheep for him, since he doesn't seem to mind. Beel sits down on his bed with Sheep Mc in his lap, holding them as one would hold a stuffed animal or pet.

Sheep Mc just has to be there to comfort him really, Beel just wants to cuddle and pet Mc until he calms down. He may talk to Mc about his nightmare, explaining bits and pieces without going into to much detail, he doesn't want to relive the nightmare he just had, but he does cry and help Mc understand what the nightmare was about. Beel will pet Mc until his tears stop falling as fast, and then he may just sit there holding Sheep Mc in his lap. Beel probably unintentionally rocks himself in attempts to calm down as well. Once Beel starts calming down he'll thank Mc for comforting him, he may be a little shy about it but I don't see him being as embarressed as some of his brothers are when Sheep Mc comforts them. Sheep Mc will know that Beel is fully calm and back to normal once his belly growls for food. That means Beel's mindset is back on track and his body is back to being constantly hungry as it should be.

Beel has nothing against Sheep Mc but I feel like he likes human Mc's comfort just a bit more sometimes. I think Beel feels uneasy around Sheep Mc, their so small and fragile he's scared he'll crush or break them on accident, he's a strong boy who barely knows his own strength. Beel also probably worries that he'll try and eat Sheep Mc, I mean its much easier to not eat a human than it is to not eat a sheep. That being said Beel is not against Sheep Mc, he does enjoy his time with the adorable sheep, when he knows he wont do anything to hurt them. He usually lets Mc choose which form they'll be in, its not their fault he has problems with restraint when it comes to food. It doesn't matter whether Mc stays in Sheep form or not, Beel will bring them to the kitchen with him for a midnight snack. If Mc is still a sheep he carries them on his shoulders, he'll carry human Mc on his shoulders as well if they let him. Once the two get to the kitchen Beel practically takes every inch of food before they venture back to his room. The two eat the pile of food, well Beel eats most of it, and then the two get back into bed. Beel will sleep in the same bed as Mc if Mc tells him he can, if not Beel will venture back to where he had been sleeping or if he's still feeling a little uneasy he'll sleep on the floor next to Mc for comfort like a dog would.

my friend who just finished orv asked me why kdj couldn't just split like 2% off of himself into an od avatar and leave that in the train while he joined kimcom, and while my initial reaction was "there's no way he could just do that" I remembered i thought a similar thing when I first read through orv too? and maybe it got explained down the line but I forget things real easy (which is why i'm rereading orv) and so I'm just trying to make sense of it using my existing knowledge

There's this bit in epilogue here:

Sangah's words "protecting the world by dividing himself in half, one becomes the reader, one becomes the character". the first being 51 and the second being 49,

I think there are layers to it. Right after being shaken by the OD ordeal, kdj's mindset that he's to blame for the whole world is reinforced stronger than ever before in his head, because he had just witnessed living proof of it. And that's not something he can overcome just because sp and 999 gang took od away to take care of him. Even then, kdj was confused why they weren't angry.

There's also the persisting mindset kdj has that he's twsa's reader and not a proper part of kimcom, and he probably felt like he should bear the burden of consciously continuing to read the world until the very end. He managed to see himself as part of kimcom over the course of the story but od's appearance sort of undoes all that progress he's ever made, and its sad but its pretty common for self hate mindsets to spiral like that,

He probably felt like he deserved it, yet him wanting that extra 2% difference to prove he knew and loved kimcom more than his avatar. Him regretting splitting in half right after the avatar left and he saw them all walking away. He knows what he wants and in the end he can't bring himself to think that he deserves it

And honestly I don't really know why the way singshong writes kdj's self hate and suicidal tendencies get me so badly, I mean I do, kind of, the feeling is there, but it's incredible how long the set up was and how real it feels when you see it all go downhill.

i think od reveal truly truly fucked up kdj to no repair. like if you read the passages, its fucking heartbreaking.

and the thing that gets to me is how easily anyone who has had self loathing thoughts can empathise with him. The want to disappear for inconveniencing things that would've been perfectly fine and pretty and happy had you not come into contact with it, the idea that you are a disgusting monster and its easier to shut yourself off than do any more damage. and its Fine if youre in pain because They will be happy and theyll will be happier without you.

It fascinates me how a portion of readers of orv who self blame or self doubt love kdj so much, because the act of loving him is also some form of self reassurance that they can be loved as well, because if someone like kdj can be forgiven, then surely they can, for all their small or big mistakes that are definitely not on the scale of plunging the universe into a space apocalypse. or something.

but i might be assuming so. don't take my word for any of this.

tldr he doesnt split out a small avatar to take the place of od because he thinks he deserves it. which is quite obvious if you take a look at the big picture, and i dont really know why i rambled so long. maybe ill reread orv and theres gona be a small bit that's like "ohh well actually if it was too small of a percentage that became od the universe wont hold up" and i will be like Ah yes i just missed that part. and this ramble will be void. uhh yes. have a nice day

Wolf Jackson the movie star:

◦ Has MAJOR former theatre kid vibes, like he totally had a Hamilton phase and watched Cats ATLEAST once just to make fun of it, but he ended up secretly kinda liking the songs from it.

◦ Wont admit to even HAVING a favourite superhero, but it’s totally Spider Noir

◦ Says he mains someone like Snake in smash, but he actually mains Isabelle, jigglepuff, or The duck hunt dog and he somehow wins EVERY TIME HE PLAYS SMASH because he’s good at spam pressing buttons.

◦ Good at claw machines for some reason. A strange hidden talent, but he probs brags about it every chance he gets (which isn’t often but still)

◦ Everyone thinks/assumes he’s straight and probs bangin his secretary/the girl who brings him coffee (idk if she’s actually his secretary) but then he’ll casually insert “my boyfriend” or “this guy I’m seeing” into a conversation and the whole room is shocked.

◦ Knuckle cracker.

◦ When he’s sad infront of other people he hides his emotions and says he’s fine, but when he’s sad at home alone, he curls up with a bunch of blankets and binge watches all the movies he stared in when he was alive. Only his secretary(?) knows this.

◦ Drinks coffee (obviously) but also likes iced teas. Can on rare occasions be seen wandering around with an Arizona Tea can in hand.

◦ That same way that I walk into any store and when I wanna get something I tell myself “I can make that at home.” He watches ANY action movie (especially ones with cgi or heavy effects) and says/thinks “I could’ve done that MYSELF, WITHOUT special affects.”

◦ Under-appreciated-employee-core. Wherever he works in the neitherworld would not FUNCTION without him, but no one who works with him would recognize this until he put in his two weeks notice.

◦ A pushover. I hate to say it, but this man DIED (double died ig?) for a ghost who didn’t deserve that amount of loyalty and Bob probably knows it. He knew Beetlejuice wasn’t worth sacrificing that much for but he did it anyways because he is a pushover.

◦ My general headcannon for all the “tiny head” people in the Beetlejuice franchise is that they can speak telepathically to people, but most either choose not to, or don’t know that they can do it. Bob chooses not to because whenever he does (on rare occasions) it freaks out everyone who’s ever known him and he finds it hilarious.

◦ Current theatre kid. Has all of Heathers memorized. Could sing most RTC songs and says “this is all your fault Jafar” and “youre FUCKIN useless Paul” in his head or under his breath EVERY DAY.

◦ Once played Smash with Wolf Jackson and absolutely HATED the fact that Wolf won every time without really trying. But also Bob mains wii fit trainer, toon link or Kirby because I said so.

◦ Coffee drinker, but also gives off “DO NOT FILL UP A “SUPER BIG GULP” CUP WITH 5-HOUR ENERGY AND CHUG THE WHOLE THING” vibes. He is WIRED.

Harry the hunter:

◦ Bobs uncle who died at around the same age as Bob so that’s why they look the same age/look like the same person.

◦ BESTIES with Ms Argentina

◦ Likes Delores because he hates Beetlejuice and wishes she successfully killed him, but also dislikes her because she killed Bob

◦ Bob is chronically tired but gets a good nights sleep most nights. Harry is an insomniac night owl who stays up until 1:00 in the morning rewatching Over the garden wall or Wall E for the 1000th time even though he KNOWS has to get up at 5:00am that morning.

◦ Only drinks tea or water.

◦ Mostly uses ASL or writing on notepads to communicate (same with Bob)

◦ Bob is the type of employee to work more than he should and do extra stuff and overtime etc. because he thinks people will like him more or atleast he’ll get some benefit from it right? Harry is the employee who knows you should just do your job and leave because no one will care if you do more than that so don’t waste your time.

◦ Just like Bob, he is a theatre kid. And he totally got Ms Argentina into musicals too.

i know i keep ranting about fusionfall but DUDE ITS SUCH A COOL CONCEPT AND WHY THE FUCK WAS THE GAME CANCELLED I STILL WANNA PLAY IT😭😭😭

but if u didnt know, fusionfall is a game based around an alien invasion involving cartoon network characters of the 2000s or somewhere around that time frame (if i am correct tho, the academy storyline has characters from some 2010s shows?)

by the way, major spoilers for the game ahead

but what is interesting about that is the fact on who is participating in the game. because fusionfall is a story based around the concept of an alien planet invading earth, it causes a life threatening situation for the characters we are introduced to and basically placing them into a war

AND DO YOU KNOW WHO IS IN THAT WAR??? LITERAL CHILDREN. mostly. what i want to mean by that is when you play the game or at least watch playthroughs of it, there are not adults that you meet at first, the only few adults i can count is Prof. Utonium and Father but there's probably more. Instead when you first join, youre met with younger people (depending on whether youre playing on the future or academy version, it really doesnt matter because either way youre meeting someone younger than the age of 20 when you first boot up the game)

this is interesting to me because, once again, think about who's participating in the war against Fusion. its actual kids, like the KND is actually the main supplier or weapons and transport throughout the entire game, and there are literally so many more examples i could give but i wont

but thinking about it from their persepctive, its fucking terrifying. its a literal war theyre in right now, and half of the population of Townsville (or wherever the game takes place) is either dead or somewhere else because nobody is there but them. for all they know, kids could be thinking that their parents or friends died in the invasion, or vice versa.

also, these characters had to take on a huge role at such a younge age. another example, but in the game (for the future version) once you complete the first quarter of the game and are sent back to the past you have to choose a guide to help you advance in your story. for those who dont know, guides are characters that lead four different story lines rhat can be a potential way to help you defeat Fuse at rhe end. The four guides consist of Dexter, Ben 10, Mojo Jojo and Double D.

Out of the four, double d stands out the most since for one, ben 10 and mojo jojo are like superpowered or something cause they feel actually qualified to be leaders in a war. Dexter is like the main reason that FusionFall takes place so he also makes sense to be a guide. Double D however is most likely still 12 years old (or older), still a genius n inventor, but he's just a normal kid here. you could argue that Dexter is just a kid as well, but he has such advanced technology that basically cancels that out.

what im trying to get at here, double d is literally just an average child with nothing but extra braincells he stole from his friends and more resources than usual that made him a guide. at 12. and is participating in a war. just. idk its probably that its horrifying to be a war general at such a young age??

OH AND I DIDNT EVEN BRING THIS UP YET BUT FUSIONFALL SURE AS HELL AINT AFRAID TO LET CHARACTERS DIE

in one of the versions of fusionfall, maybe the academy version?? Buttercup is presumed dead after one of the ppg fights against mojo jojo and she is shot into the sea and disappeared for like a bunch of years. Blossom and bubbles obviously had no idea shes still alive, and spent almost everyday trying to search for her until they had to give up and accept her sisters presumed death and THEN get burdened with an alien invasion (buttercup does come back tho, sorry for spoilers)

and in the future version where your character is accidentially sent far into the future where youre able to see the devastating amount of destruction the invasion can bring, you meet a lot less characters than you do when you travel back to the past. the past part of the game probably has at least over 50 characters or less im not sure, but when youre in the future theres at least 10 characters left

now im not totally sure if every character died or not, but considering the change in environment from the future and past, its not that far off from a possibility. though, it could jist be a personal headcanon for me.

but if this were true, then the game just killed off like the majority of their cast, including the main ones like Dexter and left some behind, obviously so you know what to do in the game but like imagine it from one of the characters perspectives??

The Boys Season 4 Episode 7

I lied. I stayed up until 2 am waiting for this episode to stream but I'm actually surprised it was better than the last one.

Warning: Major Spoilers.

A-Train

I didn't like A-Train but know I do. Good for him for doing the right thing and becoming an actual super hero. Not sure if this will be a popular opinion or not but I don't think his deed is done. After he hides his family I think he should come back and finish the job with The Boys. They sure can use him. Also he shouldn't be running off after what he told M.M. because he would be a hypocrite.

Butcher

My gut feeling tells me Joe Kessler is going to take over after Butcher passed out. Like we thought Butcher was going to do the right thing at the end but sadly not when Kessler takes over. I think if he does take over Butcher Starlight will figure it out because she heard that name. Also what was the f*cking point of making him cheat on Becca?! I mean I didn't ship them or anything and I know he was a asshole and a drunk but still I feel like they added that so we start hating on Butcher. Is Butcher (or Kessler) going to do something really f*cked up? Like kill Ryan? I've always said Kessler is like the comic book Butcher influencing TV Butcher and he's probably going to kill Ryan like he did in the comic books.

Hughie & Starlight

Because of what happened to Hughie last episode the shapeshifter tricking him into having sex with "Starlight" made me very uncomfortable. I mean I get the show is supposed to be f*cked up but wow give the guy some time to breathe. I'm scared for Starlight and I hope they give Hughie a chance to save her. I think that's all he wanted to do last season because he couldn't save Robin. I don't think it was all about Starlight being stronger than him.

Kimiko & Frenchie

Yup like I said both of them have so much in common and can heal together. I love that we finally get a backstory of why Kimiko can't talk. She had to be silent as she killed other girls in order to live so she was never able to speak again. To be honest I don't get what the point was about Frenchie turning himself in. Are we supposed to see his as his redemption and all is forgiven because he did the right thing?

The Deep

To be honest I'm not surprised The Deep broke Ambrosius' tank and let her die. The Deep always used and abused women. He didn't change at all. He finally got a taste of his own medicine when he found out about Sage and this time it's the correct way (the wrong way was him getting sexually assaulted in season one). Anyway did anyone know Ambrosius was voiced by Tilda Swinton because I for as hell didn't.

Black Noir 2 & Sage

Black Noir 2 was hilarious in this episode. I wonder if The Boys are going to figure out that he's is a different supe because they saw him talk and fly. I mean they would've known about Earving condition from Mallory, right? I think they should start a rumor about Black Noir being replaced so conspiracy theories fan would believe it. I always knew Sage had a sexual relationship with Black Noir 2 but didn't think she was going to break his heart. My poor baby. I love how she didn't have to lobotomize herself to have sex with him like The Deep. I'm so mad at Homelander for firing her but it's probably for the best if you want her to be redeemed or work with The Boys. I think she really was going to help Homelander but when she realized he wont actually listen to her she doesn't give a damn about the plan anymore and will probably help The Boys if she's hasn't given up on anyone listening to her.

Homelander, Firecracker, and Ryan

I am so proud of Ryan but I am also scared for him. Yeah Homelander didn't mean it at all when he told Ryan he can do whatever he wants. Homelander only wants Ryan to listen to him. I think Ryan is finally understanding. I have a feeling there's going to be son and father argument and Ryan is going to say I thought you said I can do whatever the f*ck I want but I guess you didn't mean it. What was that notebook Sage put on the table? I hope it belongs to Firecracker and it exposes her. Like how she writes down her plans of manipulating Homelander and step one was the breast milk. I keep saying oh this or that is going to push Homelander over the edge but when the hell is that going to happen? Next season? Because I for sure thought Homelander was finally going to go crazy and act like a god he thinks he is after the bad room episode but the next episode he's drinking titty milk from Firecracker and the episode after that he's manipulated into firing Sage who actually had everything figured out for him.

Mother's Milk

You know what M.M. getting skinny actually makes sense. Maybe he wasn't eating right because of all the stress. I know the actor wanted to lose weight but they should've written it into the plot. Anyway I'm happy he tried to save his ex-wife and daughter but A-Train is right. They wont be safe until they stop Homelander. That's why I think A-Train will come back.

Victoria

I don't care for her to be honest. I thought she was more interesting and fun when I thought she was going to be just as ruthless as Homeladner. I think they're trying to make her sympathetic so we can compare her relationship with her daughter and Homelander's relationship with Ryan.

Ashley

I adore her and this is the first time I'm saying that. She's right that Vought turns people evil. I've always said this. I think all supes were like Starlight at one point even Homelander (watch the cartoon series and see) wanted to be a real hero but Vought messed them up very badly. She's just too scared to leave. I hope she does the right thing at the end.

ok I'm gonna ramble about outer wilds.

if you haven't played it, even if you don't typically care about spoilers, PLEASE avoid spoilers bc this is the most delicate game ever when it comes to spoilers due to the way it's designed. it's one of the few games where spoilers WILL rob you of the experience. with that said,

OUTER WILDS SPOILERS

this is a very very special game to me fgkjldfjk the ending was really beautiful when i first played and the more i thought about and processed it, the more it really stuck with me to the point where i *will* just cry if i think about the ending too much and god i cannot play through that ending again without sobbing. since im assuming people reading this have played the game, yall already know the nature of the game. the only thing you have to gain from anything is knowledge, and once you beat the game, you cant really ever play it again. sure you could maybe go for achievements or explore things you never saw but the experience is kinda just over.

I very much interpreted the ending as being about death. the game has the whole supernova time loop thing going on which sorta makes the idea of respawning a canonical aspect of the game. the fact that you can just hop back into your ship and you dont really have repercussions from death which is a pretty much synonymous with games as a whole tbh is a canonical aspect of the game that you the player AND you the hearthian traveler exploring the universe are a part of. this doesnt immediately seem to special and didn't even click with me very much until quite a bit after i beat the game, but to beat the game is to accept that you're going to die, and truly dying in this game is kinda the closest media has come to communicating what death really means for me at least. you start aimlessly wandering this star system and eventually start to piece things together, you make goals and eventually figure out how to beat the game, etc. all the knowledge you have to gain in this game leads up to the ending. maybe you stop the supernova and save everyone! maybe thats why you're trying to find the eye of the universe! but no, all the stars are dying. you were just unfortunate enough to be born at the end of a dying universe. There's nothing you can do because death is inevitable for you and those around you.

to beat the game is not only to accept that the sun will explode for the last time, that the end of the experience is inevitable, that all your hearthian friends will die for good, but beating the game also requires accepting that *you the player* have reached the end of this experience, *you the player* cannot hang onto anything forever, that the end was inevitable for you too. sometimes i get genuinely sad that i can basically never play this game again, and i almost wonder if my little hearthian protagonist felt similar during the end of the game. that feeling of the inevitable end finally reaching us.

AND DESPITE IT ALL, you finally accept that you are not immortal, that this will not last forever, that the sun cant keep exploding and looping and exploding and looping forever, when you finally accept death on your own terms, when you have no idea of what's in store for you and what will happen next but you take that dive anyway, you just,, get to share a moment with the people close to you. you sit around the campfire as everyone's music comes together for the first time, once *literally* worlds apart, now, in harmony, as the little audio cues to find your friends on each planet become a symphony. they each share messages about how they feel and every single fucking one resonated with me so much sdjklfsklj stuff like "you cut it a little short dont you think?" and "i got to be a part of something really cool, so I've got no complaints" and "the future depends on the past, even if we wont get to see it" and MY FAVORITE FUCKING LINE FROM THE ENTIRE GAME. solanum, the only non-hearthian character around the campfire, a nomai, one of the species that made this all possible, a friend, says something different. she says that this is the end of our journey, and she asks you a question. she just asks if you're ready. its not required to say yes to finish, its not even required to talk to her to beat the game, but if you say no, she will ask again if you are ready whenever you talk to her afterwards, while leaving a message for you in case you are not ready for it to end. she says "its tempting to linger in this moment where every possibility still remains, but unless they are collapsed by a conscious observer, they will never be more than possibilities." when you finally take your final plunge in this moment, you watch the universe collapse before you, remarkably similar to all the times you watched the sun explode before your eyes, and you die.

even though you the player are clearly still alive, (its just a video game after all :p) the experience is over. you died in a way too. this world is no longer yours to explore and discover. after the credits theres a very nice touch where you see the start of a new universe after you enter the eye and the entire universe dies before you. you see some new creatures huddled around a campfire together to remind you that death isn't the end, because "the future depends on the past, even if we wont get to see it" and that maybe it was enough to be a part of something cool, to share those moments with your friends, to explore the universe in whatever unique way you did.

SO WHAT THE FUCK IS ECHOES OF THE EYE

DLC spoilers beyond this point ofc.

if you're like me or countless other players, you probably wanted more, well I've got just the news for you!! theres a DLC !!!! "but wait, doesnt this defeat literally the entire purpose of the game?" yes :D but that's not a flaw, in fact they do this in the best way possible. the DLC challenges the message of the game because there is a fundamental aspect of death that the game barely even touches that the DLC explored *thoroughly*: fear.

chances are, you realize you can beat the game and go beat it and are immensely moved and equally confused by the ending because it takes so much time to process that you never really have a moment to fear death. theres never a moment where you are scared of what comes next because it doesnt really click that this is the end of everything until after the end. in my opinion at least, this is pretty much the only flaw with their portrayal of death and the DLC remedied this.

so it turns out you want more and weren't ready for this to end! its time to explore the owlks and their contributions to this story. im not going to explain their story in depth because im assuming people have played ofc, but key traits with the owlks is that they feared loss. they archived what they wanted to destroy, they lost their home beause of the efforts they made to reach the eye and were horrified, they tried to escape by hiding in a world of their own creation. they hid the eye to prolong the life of the universe as infinitely far as they could. they stumbled across a way to similarly archive one's consciousness, and conquer even death itself, but it was all out of fear. they couldnt accept the end so they hid from it.

and let me just say THE DLC IS FUCKING SCARY. they lean into horror and I think everyone should play it even if they arent into horror. the puzzles arent actually too challenging in execution, and making the discoveries you need is no sweat if you've gone through the base game tbh, although it is very different in a very refreshing way. The real challenge and the real roadblock is fear. some of the things you are required to do are immensely scary and put you into situations you frankly dont want to be in! but if you quit, if you dont do this out of fear, if you hide and if you try to escape this, you're just like the owlks. you dont get through this by not being afraid, you get through this by not letting your fear paralyze you. you need to face your fears (often quite literally as you need to lure owlks away from things and I think its a nice touch that they can also hide from you by turning off their lights and then they can still see you by shining their light towards you even if yours is off FUCK that but this is a bit of a tangent lsdkfgljsd) and if you succeed where they failed, you learn one of the biggest mysteries of the game. you learn why the eye's signal vanished as fast as it appeared, why the nomai failed to find it as effortlessly as the owlks did, but more imporantly, you make a friend :] you meet the owlk that enabled the eye of the universe to be found with a brief decision that they made in a single moment so long ago. the efforts to build upon what the prisoner did were not in vain, and the prisoner accepts death by literally walking into the water as their light goes out. they leave a final message for you, urging you to ride into the exploding sun with them by your side, and you know its time to go beat the game again.

hopefully at this point the ending has sat with you long enough for you to realize what this means. now, more than ever, this is finally the end of the game. you wanted more and you got more but that desire for more similarly cant last forever. the game still needs to end and this is why there should never ever be another DLC for this game please,, a desire for more and a fear of the end kinda come hand in hand, and the fears that you chose to face were not in vain. this is it! theres nothing else! maybe you're sad that the game is ending for the last time, and maybe you still dont want it to end. but in those final moments around the campfire, solanum isn't the only non-hearthian friend around the campfire :] the prisoner is there too wondering if they even deserve to be there after what their kind did, but its over now, everything worked out. they say something really simple that was, without a doubt, the perfect addition to the game for me:

"...How beautiful. It’s different than I’d envisioned.

Whatever happens next, I do not think it is to be feared."

I think one of the reasons this game resonated so much with me is something that I really struggled to grasp until I watched shammy's outer wilds review. there's something so much more significant about *being* rather than just, observing. tons of movies try to tackle these ideas of death and even plenty of games, but with outer wilds, *you* are having this experience that will end that you can never have again. *you* are exploring a world in your own unique way that cannot last forever. and I think that's ok. I think that's what makes it special.

I'm a game dev and an artist and I think outer wilds is genuinely profound. it makes me want to make something that touches people in the way I felt touched by outer wilds. I'm so happy things aligned for me to get to use this same medium for art. I'm gonna go cry now thanks for reading <3

then backstory, i originally wanted to be like an exchange student in france but then like i cant very well be ladybug if im only there for a year so i switched it to i move to france for some reason i dont know yet and i live there with my aunt or smth bcs she lives near paris yk? then basically i just kinda take marinettes place but not completely, like shes still there and stuff but im there too yk? my love interest is adrien and marinette will get together (and stay together) with luca cos theyre cute and im not sure yet if i should script her crush on adrien out or just say it disappears at some point

changes in plot: i dont like anything after season 2, dont ask me why, i just dont like it idk why either, so im gonna script seasons 3-5 out with some exceptions (e.g. i kinda really like cat blanc so i might leave that in with some other stuff but the whole shadow moth and all that shit no) also lila isnt the next supervillain shes just a regular mean girl cos it doesnt make any frickin sense that a 15 year old is able to manipulate every single person she meets. like shell still be able to lie and manipulate people her age but not adults cos thats just stupid imo. Also i havent even watched season 5 yet so im going off spoilers i saw for the next part: none of the miraculous will have permanent holders except ladybug and chat noir (aka me and adrien) cos i like to be special :) also i wont be guardian of the miraculous until much later like college or smth cos thats a ton of pressure and it went sideways for marinette so i dont want it going sideways for me. oh and a big one: ill be taking the whole sentimonster plot out cos i hate it and i think ive never hated a plot as much as that one. like sentimonsters can exist okay but felix and adrien and kagami etc arent one. cos just no. oh and ofc i wont know adrien is chat noir haha

now a bit more about myself: idk yet if i just wanna kinda steal marinettes interests and do the whole design thing cos i am a sucker for parallels and the parallel of adriens parents and adrinette is there but then again why would i wanna be like gabriel? so i might just do what i do in 90% of my drs and be a songwriter (well ill be that anyway question is do i add the designing part on top or not?), otherwise i like baking, ill do figure skating or gymnastics or ballet prolly like all the things i wanna do here but cant for this or that reason. my nationality will be german prolly cos i like having the german passport and also i dont think i need a visa for france cos its in the eu. i wont really script much more about like me and adrien except that we end up together but in my head its kinda similar to the adrien and marinette situation cos im a sucker for slowburn and idk it just fits i think also with my issues with trusting people have good intentions and not just spend time with me bcs of a bet or shit like that.

Physical looks, i might change my hair color cos idk i think itll fit and yeah but ill still have my eye color and height and stuff just be a bit fitter cos with my endurance theres no way ill be able to be a superhero (ik theres magic and shit but still)

im not sure yet if i should leave the dr as a cartoon or do it like this reality (leaning towards this reality bcs i think cartoon would freak me out a bit for my first shift and id overcomplicate it) or maybe ill just do two drs, one cartoon and one not.

oh to be a fly INDEED. i say. like i am not the writer. you're the second person to say this w that phrasing fjsdjfclokad. i'd need to watch like several hours of footage of the both of them (+ jenson) talking for research to write it. bc writing non-zoomers is like pulling teeth for me (literally every single line of jenson dialogue was in brackets until about 12 hours before i posted the fic bc i was like how the FUCK does this man TALK). but i am not deleting the original ask in my inbox. just in case it comes to me in a dream...

a void is someone w/o powers!! it's kind of. mildly derogatory. well . can be majorly. depends on the tone, really. (lando and oscar both use it Very Derogatorily, for the first like half of the fic. oscar being mean abt lando and lando being mean to himself.) very few voids like. last. and it's only really used when someone noticeably doesn't develop when theyre in training. nobody's calling a 16 year old a void, cuz most 16 y/os havent developed.

the f2 kids are working on triggering their developments (powers)!! it's kind of like. i guess the equivalent would be meditation for like. force training in star wars? or, idk, how fanon describes finding ur animagus in h*rry p*tter (sorry it was the first analogue that came to mind). it's not super explained in-fic, cuz that's not what lando's time is spent on at all (he's fully accepted his fate of never developing), but a lot of the training (beyond the military bits of like. here's how to not blow yourself up. here's how to kill things) is working w essentially mindscapes. which start as these like incomprehensible mazes, that you slowly work through and start to pick up hints, until eventually a combo of age, environmental stressors, and time spent working through it means bam you have powers now!

the kids find it so much easier to work through their mindscapes and pull out hints when lando's there because of his power; he's unknowingly amplifying the tiny seeds of their developments, making it easier for them to find them. i didn't make that explicit in the fic, but yeah. that's also why so many people lando's gone on training missions w like . randomly develop on the mission or right after. combo of adrenaline and like . life or death fight or flight stress. plus an amplifier. and there u go. cheat code to unlocking ur powers

if no one has me i know you have me anon. LISTEN! ok so first off. they have HISTORYYYY ok. they had their little squad at the institute. nico literally uses jenson's development to test out the amplifier thing. like jenson is an extremely willing participant in the experiment. he tells mark to believe he's a chicken like eight times, seven of which mark is like 'what the actual fuck mate' for. and obviously nico and lewis have their fuckin. quantum entanglement levels of involvement in each other.

and then nico and lewis go out on that mission. and only lewis comes back... and lewis and jenson lean on each other ok!!! there's def some tense moments in there (jenson probably does blame lewis for it going wrong. for a bit. i wont lie) but they do eventually get to this point of like. god i miss him. yk. so they're having their shared grief moment. they partner up for a bit. jenson's not got a terribly combat oriented development (rifted can't hear instructions/understand human language or like. feel emotions the way humans do. so what use is a charmed voice lol) but he's good at shooting shit. and lewis can literally make things vibrate until they explode. and then they get older and more experienced and suddenly they're in charge of people (who tf let That happen). but at the end of the day who are they gonna call up when they've got an aching hole in their chest. each other. that's who. they also fuck about it for SURE

and now nico's BACK. fifteen years of weird grief and feelings later. lewis is torn between doing what is definitely his due diligence his responsibility cuz like. he should be getting answers. fucking anomalous shit is going on. and nico. but jenson has already hit the point of yeah fuck that, nico's back and lando's fine idgaf otherwise. (i think jenson had perhaps . an inkling. of lando's development. and things have clicked a bit as to what happened but he could not care less. nobody's actively in danger of dying. everyone he's responsible for is fine including the guy he's got a soft spot the size of the moon for. nico is BACK. who cares how it happened rn. that's for like. 72 hours from now. after lots of food and sleep. and maybe sex if things go really really well.)

"You KNOW she and the company will react after you said that Sungchan." Eunseok said to Sungchan as he shakes his head, thinking what he has done.

"Why not just tell her we broke up so that I wont be associated with this any more cuz this seems to be the problem of you, the company and who ever that girl was back there." Yn said which made the guys look at her.

"She won't believe that either way. They broke up not long ago, she kept on bothering him recently and only now you came into the picture but then you break up randomly? She'll catch up on what's happening is not real." Anton said out of no where.

"So what do we do now? Sohee won't let this slide you know?" Eunseok said making everyone look at Sungchan for an answer.

"Then why not keep up in doing this for a few then call it off? Me and Yn don't have any mutual feelings toward each other anyways so no biggie." Sungchan shrugs off his 'smart' idea as the other members shake their heads in disappointment of how he reacts to his problems.

"Yeah, I mean whats done is done so we have to grow within it I guess." Yn said, backing up Sungchan's dumb idea.

"She really be doing a lot for her bias." Eunseok whisper's to Anton as the young one just smiles weirdly.

"Oh yeah, to make it more believable, join us later. We're eating at a hotel." Anton sparked up an idea to make the play more believable.

"Let's not, Yuni will be there-" Sungchan said making Eunseok cut him off.

"Isn't that the point?" Eunseok said while hitting his head with his palm.

As the day past and they were at the hotel, eating with other staff. Sohee was with the other members while Eunseok and Anton were busy talking to other staff. Yn was forced to stay beside Sungchan because of the idea of Sungchan playing this through. Yn was scrolling on her phone while Sungchan was eating right beside her, an idea pondered in her mind.

'It's now or never I guess' She sad while quickly opening her camera on her phone and waiting for the perfect moment until she took a picture. As she pressed the white button on her phone, you could hear a small click which caught her red handed.

"Can I see the picture?" Sungchan placed his plate down and tried to get the phone but she placed it behind her.

"No." She said as he suddenly snatched it behind her because of her height difference.

"Don't post that! Retake it." He sad giving the phone back without deleting it and quickly grabbed his plate and posed.

"Uhh." Yn was surprised by his personality but shrugged it off and took another picture with a smile on her face.

"Let me see~" Sungchan said while she handed over her phone for him to see.

"Can you send it to me? I'll make sure to credit you." He said taking his phone out, waiting for the photo on his phone.

"Thanks!" He said as he soon received it and started making the story.

"There, I posted it and tagged you." He said showing the phone to her very quickly.

Never Wondered?

Unfortunately, it wasnt an uncommon occurrence. Being one of the few young and single women in Alexandria, you gained far more attention than you wanted, and from all the wrong people.

Daryl watches from his porch as Spencer approaches you, and he scoffs, shaking his head and looking away. He doesnt want to see another guy get shutdown, it really is embarrassing for them. This isnt the first time Spencer has tried it either, clearly last time you werent harsh enough, which means this time you’ll pull out all the stops to make sure he gets the message. However, Daryl cant ever keep his gaze from you for long, and his eyes seem to drift back to you at the perfect time. Spencer puts his hand on your waist, and you slap it away, stepping back from him with a deep set frown on your face. Daryl is at your side in an instant, both to protect you and also to save Spencer’s ass, because he has no idea what you’re capable of. Your face softens when you look up at Daryl, like it always does.

“Leave her alone man, she aint in’erested.” Daryl grumbles, trying to lead you away from Spencer, and you gladly accept his invitation away from the situation. Until Spencer opens his big, stupid mouth again.

“I could treat you better than some old redneck.”

You stop dead in your tracks, the silence that falls after Spencer’s quiet, muttering words almost eery. Movements so slow they’re scary, you turn back around to face Spencer.

“What the fuck did you just say?” You call out, voice loud, wanting to make sure you heard him right.

Daryl stares at you worriedly, knowing from previous experience with guys testing your patience in front of him that your tone means you’re about to wreck house, but he’s unsure why. Sure, Spencer just disrespected Daryl in front of you, but he only insulted Daryl for being older than you, which he is, but in the position of your boyfriend, which he isnt. The two of you are close, you’ve been close for years, but you’ve always just been friends.

Spencer’s eyes widen, he hadnt expected you to hear him.

“I said-“ He begins, but you cut him off.

“You’re really stupid enough to repeat that shit to my face? Nah.” You shake your head, taking three quick strides towards him before your swift right hook cracks his jaw, forcing Spencer to the floor him.

Without a second thought, you kick Spencer onto his back and straddle his chest, punching him in the face one more time for good measure, then gripping his collar. He stares up at you with fear in his eyes, and you’re about to say more, but Daryl’s arms wrap around you from behind and pull you off of him. It doesnt take you long to figure out why he’d stopped you, Deanna and Rick are running down the street. Rick runs to you, while Deanna crouches down beside her piss baby son. She looks to you for an explanation, Daryl still holding you back.

“Sorry Deanna, but quite frankly this particular son of yours is a spineless little bitch. If he tries anything with Daryl or I again, he’ll regret it.” You tell her confidently, unafraid of what her response will be; you wont lie for someone like that just to keep your residency safe.

Deanna nods knowingly, sighing. “Sorry, I know he can be a little much. I already told him you two were an item, thought that’d take him off the scent, but...apparently I was mistaken. On his behalf, I apologise.” She says, looking up at you sincerely, and you nod at her in acceptance.

Rick lifts your hands, examining your bloody knuckles as he laughs. “You’d better go see the doctor.”

You smile at him. “Ya think that’s bad, take a look at the other guy.”

Rick laughs harder and pats your shoulder, ushering you and Daryl away. Much like many other occasions, your best friend has stayed silent during all of this, and he stays silent during the walk to the infirmary, but for some reason it feels like this time around he has something he wants to say, he just doesnt know how.

As soon as you step inside, Denise tosses Daryl an icepack, which he immediately passes to you.

“Oh, sorry, I heard the commotion outside and when you walked in I assumed Daryl had been the other guy.” Denise apologises guilty, and you grin at her.

“No worries, I beat him to it.” You nudge Daryl gently and he huffs at you.

Holding the icepack to your knuckles, Denise gestures for you to sit down, and she examines your wounds.

“A few split knuckles and some intense bruising, but no breaks. You knew what you were doing!” She chuckles, and you wink at her.

“Always do!”

You and Denise make casual conversation for a few minutes until she’s called outside to deal with a kid that’s fallen over pretty badly, leaving you and Daryl alone.

For maybe another minute, silence fills the room. The two of you have often enjoyed comfortable silences together, it was one of the many reliefs of befriending you: Daryl always knew you didnt expect him to talk, he liked that. However, after mulling over his words since the moment you defended him, Daryl finds what he wants to say.

“Why’d ya do that for me but not for yerself?” He asks, causing you to look up at him from across the room.

You smile. “When some guy is making me uncomfortable, I have a somewhat instinctive fear of what could happen. But when anyone, anyone at all, so much as gives you a dirty look? I’ll lose my shit, and that’s a promise.”

Daryl frowns, more confused than he was prior to your explanation. “Why?”

You shrug. “‘Cause you’re always the one to protect others, it’s about time somebody offered to protect you.”

Daryl scoffs, feeling somewhat defensive all of a sudden. “Can handle myself.”

Those kind eyes coax him back out of his shell. “Never said you couldnt, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt feel safe and protected too.”

Nothing else is said after that. When Dennise eventually returns, she apologises for forgetting to tell you that you’re free to go, but she isnt confused as to why Daryl’s still with you. Everyone here knows that if they ever need to find him, he’s never far from you. The two of you wordlessly head to your separate houses, Daryl feeling guilty for not thanking you, but you knowing he’s grateful without him having to tell you.

The next day, Daryl’s back on his porch when Spencer approaches you again. This time you’re further away, so Daryl stands up and slowly edges closer. Not too close to be obvious, but close enough to jump in if you need him. You stand with your arms crossed, nodding your way through Spencer’s clearly rehearsed speech that he definitely didnt come up with on his own. The speech takes so long that Daryl debates going and sitting back down for a minute, but then it ends, and you start responding.

“Oh, cool, you’re giving me a second to speak now? Much appreciated.” Uh-oh, Daryl recognises the sharpness in your voice, Spencer’s in for it now. You take a step closer to him, standing almost toe to toe, and despite being shorter than him, you somehow tower over him. “Let me just clarify that I dont give a shit about the apology your mom made you memorise, I appreciate her efforts, but I do not forgive you. So, for once in your life do the smart thing and read the fucking room: stay the hell away from Daryl, or I will beat your ass.” You pause, standing up on your tiptoes and grinning at him right in his sorry little face. “Again.”

You dont give Spencer the chance to reply, you just flip him off, but with the back of your middle finger literally pressing against his nose.

With that, you walk away, spotting Daryl almost immediately and smiling at him, your smile totally different than it had been when talking to Spencer, who’s walking away looking shell shocked.

“Thanks.” Daryl says shyly, avoiding your eyes.

You grin up at him. “No need to thank me, I know you’d do the same for me.”

Daryl shrugs your kindness off as per usual as he flops back down on the porch. “Yeah, but ‘s different.”

You raise an eyebrow and sit down beside him. “Why is it different?”

Daryl keeps his gaze locked on his raised knees as he wraps his arms around them loosely. “Im s’posed to defend you, s’posed to defend myself, too.”

You sigh dramatically, causing Daryl to look at you. “Well, if you’re sticking to all those outdated stereotypes of a gentleman, what does that leave me to do for you?” Daryl shrugs, and you ever so casually rest your head on his shoulder. “I dont need you to defend me at every opportunity because I know that you always would, you have nothing to prove to me, Daryl. I know you’re a gentleman.”

Daryl’s voice softens. “Ya aint got nothin’ to prove t’ me neither.”

You shake your head against his shoulder. “See, that’s where you’re wrong. A gentleman deserves to have his honour defended, and I know for a fact you’ve never really had anyone protect you before.”

Daryl huffs. “Had Merle.”

You sigh. “Yeah, exactly.” You loop your arm under his as it stays firmly wrapped around his knee, you hold onto his bicep. “You’ve never had anyone to protect you, and just because you’ve convinced yourself you dont need that, doesnt mean you wouldnt like it. You deserve to feel safe, you arent alone, Daryl. I’ve got your back.” As if to emphasise the meaning behind your words, you turn your head to kiss his shoulder, and Daryl tenses up.

“Spencer was wrong.” He says, and you nod.

“I know, he was completely out of line.” You agree, but Daryl shakes his head.

“Naw, he aint wrong in what he said about me, but he was wrong with what he meant by it.” Daryl says, and your arm leaves his as you sit up straight and turn to face him with an intense frown on your face.

“And what did he mean?” You ask him, like you dont already know.

Daryl fidgets awkwardly. “Y’know, he thought...same as what Deanna thought.”

You raise an eyebrow. “And what would be so bad if they were right? Because I can tell you now, Spencer was wrong in absolutely everything he said; he referred to aspects of you that would in no way make you a bad partner, to anyone, but especially not to me!”

Daryl turns to you, searching your eyes. “Whaddaya mean?”

Your face softens into a gentle smile. “Daryl, we are both adults, you being older than me makes no difference. Your accent and the things you know as a result of where you came from are all things I find incredibly hot, quite frankly. There isnt a single aspect of you that implies you would be a bad boyfriend, or that you wouldnt treat me well. In fact, I firmly believe that no woman could be treated better by any man than you.” You tell him, and Daryl has to avoid your eyes, the sincerity in your words being too much for him. You giggle at his reaction, resting your head back on his shoulder. “You never wondered why I dont correct people when they think we’re together?”

Daryl is quiet as he chews on his lip, debating his choice of words before he answers. “Never wondered why I dont neither?”

At that, you giggle again, turning to place another kiss on his shoulder as you loop your arm back under his. “Nope.”

Daryl smiles, and the two of you fall into another one of your comfortable silences, sat on his porch and staring at nothing in particular.

Somehow, you’d wiggled your way right into Daryl’s heart, and by the looks of things, you showed no sign of leaving. Much to his own surprise, and what he’s sure would also be Merle’s amusement, Daryl doesnt seem to mind one bit.
