Asivia: The Marriage Hunter, Former Party Member
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(This is an excerpt from my essay, Real World Cultural and Linguistic References in Delicious in Dungeon)
ASIVIA
(Japanese Pronunciation: Ashibia)
Asivia (アシビア) is a female magic user that was in the Touden party before Marcille. She’s a pretty woman who tries to take advantage of Laios’ trusting nature, and is referred to at one point as a “marriage-seeker”, implying that she is a gold-digger, looking to find a man who has recently struck it rich in the dungeon and marry them now that they have money. Laios seems oblivious to the fact that she’s using him. When Laios, under pressure from the rest of the party, tells Asivia that he can no longer give her special treatment, she immediately leaves.
Asivia is a name that comes from the precursor to Ancient Greek, Linear B. Linear B is a syllabic script that was used for writing in Mycenaean Greek, the earliest known form of the Greek language.
Asivia (𐀀𐀯𐀹𐀊/Ασίfια/a-si-wi-ja) is identified as an “ethnic name” on a chart I found online about names and words in Linear B, but it doesn’t specify what ethnicity. It most likely comes from the Hittite word Assuwa (𒀸𒋗𒉿, aš-šu-wa).
I found that asivia/asiwija was a word used to refer to a portion of northwestern Anatolia called Lydia. Later this word came to mean the world east of Greece in general, and eventually evolved into the English word Asia, so Asivia means a person from Lydia/east of Greece/Asia.
Lydia was an Iron Age kingdom located in modern day Turkey, and the name comes from Ancient Greek Λυδία (Ludía, “the region of Lydia”), from λυδία (ludía, “beautiful one, noble one”). The given name Lydia originally indicated ancestry or residence in the region of Lydia.
So Asivia’s name may be telling us where she’s from. In Dungeon Meshi’s case, it could mean she is from “Asia” meaning the Eastern Archipelago, or it could mean she is from the “East”, as in the Eastern Continent, where the story takes place. Since she looks like she has brown or red hair, I think she’s probably from the Eastern Continent. Her name could also be a joke about how she’s a pretty girl and Asivia means someone from Lydia, since Lydia/Ludia means “beautiful one” in Greek.
MISTRESS OF THE DUNGEON
Asivia/Asiwija also has a connection to the Ancient Greek word potina (𐀡𐀴𐀛𐀊/πότνια/po-ti-ni-ja), which means "Mistress, Lady", and is an honorific title used both for mortal women and goddesses. In the case of goddesses, it’s a euphemism used in place of their actual names, and Asivia/Asiwija is one of the descriptive words that has been found frequently accompanying potina. “Potina Asivia” means “Mistress/Goddess from the East.”
Despoina, another euphemistic title used the same way, means mistress of the house, and a famous use is a mysterious, nameless, "Mistress of the labyrinth", who was worshiped in Minoan Crete, the place where the Minotaur was supposedly imprisoned. The tale of the Minotaur and the labyrinth has deep connections to the world and plot of Dungeon Meshi, which I go into more in Chapter 12 (Elven Culture).
Asivia was not Laios’ mistress, obviously, but she wanted to be! And if she hadn’t left, and had become Laios’ lover, then maybe she would have been called the Mistress of the Dungeon (labyrinth) at the end of the story…

True Stories Left Out Of Biopics To Make The Person Look Better
Gandhi - the film assumes that Mahatma Gandhi was morally pristine because he was starving all the time. Not the case. As it turns out, the brave, peaceful hero of Colonial India was actually kind of a pervert. As a 'test' of his piety and purity, he would sleep next to young girls - including his grand-niece - and force himself not to touch them or become aroused. This disrespect for women fell in line with his documented assertion that menstrual blood is a "manifestation of the distortion of a woman's soul by her sexuality." Oh and he also believed that Black people are sub-human.
The Miracle Worker -  A 1962 film about tutor Anne Sullivan teaching Helen Keller about friendship etc.  Helen Keller is considered to be one of the most heroic people of all time, and for good reason: though blind and deaf from a young age, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts and inspire people across the country through lectures and writings. Despite her own disadvantages, however, she still didn't believe that other disadvantaged people should be allowed to coexist with normal citizens. In the early 20th century, as the international public began to embrace eugenics - AKA the process of filtering out undesired traits from the gene pool through breeding and genetic experiments - Keller was one of the first to write: "It is the possibility of happiness, intelligence and power that give life its sanctity, and they are absent in the case of a poor, misshapen, paralyzed, unthinking creature.” She also added that allowing a "defective" child to die was simply a “weeding of the human garden that shows a sincere love of true life”...
A Beautiful Mind - A biopic on John Nash, this beautiful, heartfelt movie about overcoming mental illness and finding true love was also about a  man who hated Jewish people and inappropriate advances. Although John Nash and his wife deny any allegations that he slept with men, the records prove otherwise. Several of his male friends from young adulthood have gone public about Nash's awkward passes at them. There's also plenty of proof that Nash had ill feelings towards Jewish people, but he has since blamed those actions on being crazy.
The Iron Lady - The 2011 biopic about Margaret Thatcher aka the Iron Lady seemed to fall to include Thatcher's toxic attitudes towards non-whites and non-straights. According to close associates of the Iron Lady she stubbornly stigmatized LGBT people in legislation and encouraged Australia to block immigration from Asia.

OKAY SO A RANT FOR YOU
I'll do it on my hcs of the marauders ethnicities and nationalities hehehe since we were talking about it earlier
starting off with the girls because LADIES FIRST/lh
Marlene— I see her as German or Korean (maybe both for that matter) I saw her as German first originally, and like I love it
I also saw her recently being hc as Korean and I thought that was fitting as well
and I think she was born and raised in England, but her parents always took her on trips back to Germany or to Korea to learn about the cultures and see their extended family as well
she would definitely be bilingual, but no one would realize until one day she just whips it out, and everyone is stunned
Dorcas— Haitian/cuban, she is a Caribbean girlie all the way
Dorcas can fluently speak créole and Spanish, French as well
She was born in Haiti and her parents had her live there until she was like 5 and then brought her to live in England with them
Lily— English/Irish, born in england
but I like to think that her father was born and raised in Ireland and had the thickest accent and so because of her growing up with her mother's English accent and her father's Irish accent, she has this combined accent from the both of them
Mary— I think she could be Nigerian, though I haven't thought too much about Mary (Shame on me ikik 😔)
She was born in England but she lived with her grandmother for a while bc maybe her parents died(?) and then when she got older she moved back to England for school
Emmeline Vance— I actually know nothing about her so I'm open to whatever hcs ppl have for her
I usually see her fancasts being Asian but I'm not sure where in Asia I think she'd be from
Pandora— Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
u told me about Mexican rosier twins earlier and I can't not get that out my mind
I love it sm
they were born and raised in France though, moving to England when they were 12-13 maybe
Sybil— I got no clue here, I'm thinking maybe polish? I'm not sure
she was born as raised in England tho, that's for sure
Bellatrix— Haitian/French
I HAVE A WHOLE THING FOR THIS
Cygnus had an affair(a one night stand) and the woman got pregnant and then came bellatrix, and because she technically had Cygnus' blood, she was partially "pure" so he had to take her in
but the rest of that family is white(you can't convince me that the older generations of the Black Family weren't racist— ironic bc of the name but I digress) and therefore Bellatrix always stood out yk
but she could fluently speak French, her French is honestly better than her English (bc she wanted to be accepted so badly she leaned more into learning french bc it was what her family valued)
she was born and raised in England
Narcissa— French, born and raised in England
Druella was french, Cygnus was French and there you get Narcissa (this sounds so plain after every I wrote for Bella but 😭)
Fluent in French and English
Andromeda— French, born and raised in England
Can speak French, but not as well as her sisters, but knows more than enough to get by
Alice— Italian, born and raised in Italy but moved to England for Hogwarts
idk why but she just seems Italian to me
Rita— kill me but she's so american, in terms of nationality
I think she'd be Greek and dutch ethnically though, but can't speak either of those languages (she can read and write Greek tho, just can't speak it well)
BUT SHE'S SUCH AN AMERICAN 😭😭😭 IM TELLING I (sincerely, an American)
she moved to England though, cause 1. her parents are loaded and 2. she begged hard enough
okay I think that's all the girls (I will sob if I missed one—)
now for the dudes
Remus— Welsh/English, born and raised in Wales
Idk where I got this from it's just always been there
but if I may
can I propose German Remus? cause I can see it yk
Sirius— French/Italian, born in italy and lived there for a bit, then moved to England
Idk which parent would be which bc I honestly don't care enough about Orion or Wallburga, but I have converted to Italian Black brothers and I couldn't give it up Im telling you
it's just too perfect
Sirius would lean more into learning Italian than French but would be fluent in both, as well as English
his accent is strong but he's good at covering it
Regulus— same as Sirius, French/Italian, but born and raised in France
Id like to think Orion and wallburga were separated for a bit bc they couldn't tolerate each other's bullshit LMAO so they both separated(without anyone knowing ofc) and took the boys to France and Italy for a bit until they had to show their faces together a couple years later
So regulus is ofc fluent in French, as well as Italian, but he doesn't have as strong of an Italian accent, as well as English ofc
he also stopped using Italian a lot more after Sirius left
James— HE'S EITHER INDIAN/BENGALI OR CUBAN/PUERTO RICAN
there's no in between for me he's either Desi or Hispanic LOL (I mean he can be both ofc he can but I always see him as one or the other)
He's fluent in Spanish or Bengali and knows some hindu (but his parents were from West Bengal and Bangladesh so they mainly speak Bengali) and English
But sorry y'all, despite this, his spice tolerance is not great, sue me(/lh)
he still eats it all anyway bc all that food is DELICIOUS OMG(I love food, can you tell)
he was born and raised in England tho
Peter— I think he's Scottish for some reason, born and raised
and he has an accent too hehehe
sorry Peter, you're quite simple when it comes to this imo 😔🎀
Barty— we've all decided he was Italian haven't we
but but what if I hit you with Italian/German barty
I saw it in a post the other day and I loved it LMAO
he was born and raised in Italy but moved to England in his teens
can speak Italian, and German fluently, his English is good but his accents are all over the place at times
Evan— exactly the same as Pandora, Mexican/French or Brazilian/French
Frank— tell me why I see him as Asian (probably bc of Frank from Percy Jackson but that's not my fault—)
but he'd probably be half Chinese and half English
born and raised in England
Lucius— Russian or French, or half and half
it just seems right to me
he was born in raised in Russia until he was ten, then he moved to France, and then finally, they ended up in England for him to go to Hogwarts
fluent in Russian and French, and his English is good enough to get by, his accent is THICK though
Snape(I just realized.... we don't call him by his first name do we 💀)— but ummmm hm
Italian/English
born and raised in England and does not speak Italian
Xenophilius— french, born and raised
can speak French fluently as well as English
Rodolphus(Lestrange)— I can't remember what exactly me and my friend hc them as but ik he was half Romanian
(I think the other half was Russian)
Rabastan(Lestrange)— same as his brother
and... I think that's everyone
everyone that we rlly talk about anyways LMAO
this was a long one hehe
OMG SO SO SO COOL THNAK YOUU FOR TELLING MEEE
I agree with a lot of these hehe
I get where you're coming from with Bellatrix, I've somehow always seen her as part italian for some reason lol, cus of the whole affair thing that I completelyyyy agree withhh
And yeah rita is Definitely American, any idea what state she could be from? I feel like she could also be german/American just for fun
I think xenophilius would be French but I also think he'd maybe be some other European country, maybe like Belgium or maybe Greece? hehe
I LLOVEE THE IDEA OF SIRIUS AND REG BEING ITALIAN AND FRENCH OMG
but sadly I kinda don't think it fits a bit ? IDKK
but yes it absolutely works I'm just veryy used to French black brothers loll
hehe ^_^

FIRST CHAPTER, Embers of a Fallen Legacy
📍stonehearth, iris
5 years after the Battle of Ironhold that overthrow usurper, king Fritz and the year after the crown prince, Chanyeol was reinstated to take his rightful place as king.
Year 478 after the Creator was born.
THE SUN DIPPED LOW OVER THE HORIZON, casting long, somber shadows over the kingdom of Iris. Once a land of flourishing grandeur, the capital city of Stonehearth lay in a state of mourning. The remnants of the ancient city walls, crumbling and weathered, stood as silent witnesses to the chaos that had unfolded in recent years. The streets, once alive with the bustle of trade and festivity, now echoed with the hollow whispers of decline. It used to be so endearing, my father used to describe the beauty of the capital, not until the Battle of Ironhold took place.
From the vantage point of the castle of Ironhold, the view was both majestic and melancholic. The towering spires, though still impressive, bore the scars of neglect. The iron gates and stone battlements, though still formidable, spoke of battles fought and lost. Even now, with the sun setting, the city seemed to exhale a sigh of resignation, its people still reeling from the upheavals that had plagued them.
Yet, even amidst this backdrop of ruin and hope, the tale of Moonreach was the one that weighed heaviest on my heart.
Five years ago, the estate of House Greenwell, Moonreach, stood as a symbol of pride and stability in Skybound. Its grand spires and sweeping courtyards, nestled in the northern reaches of Iris, were a testament to the enduring legacy of our family. But that was before the fire.
"You must leave this place at once, dearest. It's too unsafe here." Father murmured.
The blaze had consumed Moonreach in a single, catastrophic night. I remember the crackling of flames and the oppressive heat that seemed to reach into every corner of the castle.
"But I can't leave you here." I held his hands in a tight grasp in refusal to flee the place with me.
"Go to Asia, go to your sister. She'll protect you like she usually does." He said before I made an attempt to grab his wrist to prevent him from joining the blazing flames that enveloped the halls, if we don't make haste, soon it will be us toasted in the crisping hot sea of fire.
"Listen to me, Namra. Ser Gareth, see to it that the Lady Namra is escorted to Eldoria to her sister." He ordered. Ser Gareth nodded in approval with no signs of opposing to his orders.
"Namra, in the moon's shadow, we stand strong." Then Ser Gareth carried me and I remembered the image of him standing there and the fire swallowing him alive. My father was killed by his honor and duty, and as his heir, he decided that Skybound would only be saved if I was alive.
The inferno had swallowed up memories and history alike, leaving behind nothing but smoldering ruins and a profound sense of loss. The fire was not merely an accident; it was an act of violence—a deliberate assault against everything my family had worked to build.
As the only remaining member of House Greenwell, the responsibility to restore Moonreach fell squarely on my shoulders. The once-proud castle now lay in ashes, and I, Namra Greenwell, was left with the monumental task of rebuilding not just the physical structure, but also the legacy it represented.
With Moonreach reduced to ruins, my next course of action was clear. My sister, Lady Asia Silverhades, was now married to Lord Roderick of Eldoria—a land known for its rich cultural heritage and formidable warrior code. Asia’s position and her connection to Eldoria offered a glimmer of hope. Eldoria’s resources and political influence could be the key to our mission.
The journey to Eldoria was long and fraught with challenges. The road stretched out before us, winding through the rugged terrain of Iris. As my sister’s carriage approached the gates of Eldoria, I could feel a mixture of relief and trepidation. Asia’s presence here was a vital piece of our plan, but I couldn’t shake the apprehension about the negotiations that lay ahead.
On my way to Eldoria, the image still printed in my mind of my father's passing as he was enveloped by the heat of the flames that caused him his death. I had every reason that the fire that happened was not just an accident, and it made me certain that there was more than what to see from above.
Eldoria welcomed us with open arms and a sense of vibrant life that was a stark contrast to the desolation we had left behind. The people of Eldoria, known for their craftsmanship and warrior spirit, greeted us warmly. Lord Roderick, a tall man with a stern yet kind demeanor, met us at the gates. His presence was reassuring, and the strength of his land seemed to breathe new life into our weary souls.
"Welcome to Eldoria, dear sister." Asia greeted with a hint of melancholy in her eyes. As we both remember the memory of our late father.
"Ser Gareth. Thank you for escorting my sister safely." Asia mumbled.
Asia and I shared a private moment in her chambers. The soft light of dusk filtered through the curtains, casting a serene glow over the room. She took my hands in hers, her eyes filled with concern and determination.
“We’ll get through this,” she said, her voice steady despite the uncertainty that lay ahead. "What father taught us go way beyond on what we are experiencing right now." Asia continued to reassure my worries.
I sighed as I still remember the moments that we both exchanged before father died, "I saw him die right before my eyes. I should have brought him here with us."
"You've known how father is. He does not want to die in the hands of his enemies, but he would prefer if he dies right there in Moonreach."
Asia held our hands together as a symbol of our solidarity in this trial, having to have loss such an important figure on both of our lives. "You are the Lady of Moonreach now, all will be well."
“With Roderick’s support and the resources of Eldoria, we have a fighting chance.”
I nodded, but my thoughts were consumed by the enormity of our task. Restoring Moonreach was only the beginning; we needed to regain our standing and secure a future for ourselves and our land.
The day finally arrived for us to travel to Stonehearth to meet the king-conqueror. As we entered the capital, the weight of our mission pressed heavily upon us. Stonehearth, though not entirely destroyed, bore the marks of the conflict that had ravaged Iris. The streets were eerily quiet, and the once-bustling markets seemed subdued, as if the city itself were holding its breath.
Ironhold, the royal castle, loomed over the city. Its imposing structure was a symbol of Chanyeol’s reclaimed power, and it was to this fortress that we journeyed.
We were ushered into the grand audience chamber of Ironhold. The room was adorned with tapestries and banners, but the grandeur of the space did little to mask the underlying tension that permeated the air. King Chanyeol, seated upon his throne, regarded us with a mixture of curiosity and guarded suspicion.
I stepped forward, my resolve hardened by the urgency of our cause. “Your Majesty,” I began, “I am Namra Greenwell, and this is my sister, Lady Asia Silverhades. We have come to seek your aid in the restoration of Moonreach.”
Chanyeol’s gaze was cool and calculating. “Moonreach,” he repeated, his tone laced with skepticism. “I’m aware of the loss your family has endured. But you must understand, the state of Iris is precarious. Resources are scarce, and the challenges we face are immense.”
His response was disheartening. Despite the gravity of our situation, Chanyeol’s demeanor was unyielding. He seemed more focused on the practicalities of his kingdom’s survival than on the restoration of a single estate. I could sense his distrust and the weight of his responsibilities bearing down upon him.
“We have come to offer a mutually beneficial arrangement,” I continued, trying to keep my voice steady. “Restoring Moonreach will not only honor my family’s legacy but also contribute to the stability of Iris. With your support, we can begin to rebuild what was lost.”
One of the council members interrupted, "Your Grace. I believe Lord Greenwell was one of the lords that refused to support your rebellion."
My jaw clenched in sheer annoyance, "Yet he didn't succumbed to the power of the usurper. My father didn't choose any side, he remained neutral, he didn't want to compromise the people of Skybound." I replied.
Chanyeol’s eyes narrowed as he considered my words. “And why should I trust that your intentions are genuine? There are many who seek to manipulate the kingdom’s plight for their own gain.”
The tension in the room was palpable. Chanyeol’s skepticism was clear, and I could feel the weight of his scrutiny. Despite my best efforts, I could sense a growing divide between us—a chasm of mistrust and uncertainty that would not easily be bridged.
"What makes you so paranoid, Your Grace? Are you so consumed by fear that you suspect every offer of aid to be a threat? Your family fell before you, and now you think everyone is out to destroy you." I challenged, and Chanyeol's smirk flattened showing proof of his weakness. His family, that died just before king Fritz ruled over the lands of Iris.
He raised his voice, "Stop it." He warned, his expression darkened. "You know nothing of what I’ve endured. The loss of my family and the threats against my life have left scars deeper than you can imagine.” His voice raised, echoing off the stone walls. “Do not presume to understand my position or question my judgment.”
No longer enduring the mix of anger and pain. “I have lost my father too, Your Grace. My family’s suffering is not less than yours.” Her voice, though still controlled, carried the weight of her own grief and frustration. “We are all trying to navigate a world that’s been torn apart, but I assure you, my intentions are to mend what’s broken, not to exploit it.”
Chanyeol’s face softened slightly at her words, but his eyes remained guarded. “If your intentions are truly honorable, then prove it. The kingdom is not a place for gestures or promises. It demands actions and results. For that we will allow you to stay here in Ironhold with the company of Lady Silverhades."
“Alright then, allow us to prove ourselves. Let Moonreach be restored, and judge us by our actions, not by the shadows of distrust that cloud your judgment.”
The room was filled with a tense silence. Chanyeol studied my eyes with a mix of wariness and reluctant admiration. “Very well. If you wish to proceed, we will discuss terms and conditions. But know this: the path to gaining my trust will not be easy.”
As Chanyeol dismissed them with a wave of his hand, Namra felt a flicker of hope amidst the lingering tension. She knew the road ahead would be fraught with challenges, but she was determined to prove her sincerity and restore Moonreach, no matter the obstacles.
"You have my word, Your Grace." I replied sternly.
"Then you have the comforts of Ironhold at your disposal."
Asia and I left the grand hall, the weight of the meeting hung heavy. The path to restoring Moonreach and earning Chanyeol’s trust would be arduous, but I was resolved to navigate the complexities and confront the challenges head-on.
Which leads us to the present day, almost a week after we have arrived here in Ironhold. The opulence of the Blooming Grounds, where Chanyeol had graciously allowed us to stay, was both a marvel and a stark contrast to the austerity of Skybound. The capital’s grandeur was undeniable, with its majestic mountain ranges surrounding the city like a protective embrace. I was still absorbing the splendor of Ironhold, a far cry from the rugged beauty of Moonreach, where Asia and I had spent countless hours gazing out from the tall tower before her engagement to Lord Roderick.
Asia’s entrance into my bedchambers jolted me from my reverie. Her expression was a mix of concern and exasperation as she approached, her steps light against the marble floors.
“You seem to be enjoying yourself for someone who’s supposed to be handling crucial affairs,” she said, her tone laced with frustration.
I looked up from my contemplation of the city below, raising an eyebrow. “And what exactly are you implying, dear sister?”
Asia’s gaze softened as she sank onto the edge of the bed, her posture weary. “A civil war has erupted. Dawnspire is in decline, people are fleeing, and the rebels have invaded Suncrest. The unrest is spreading, and it’s taking a toll on our efforts.”
She took my hands in hers, her grip firm yet comforting. “The resources we hoped to allocate for the restoration of Moonreach have been diverted to House Ambers. They’ve been the first to pledge their loyalty to Chanyeol during the rebellion, and their situation is becoming increasingly dire.”
Her words were a cold splash of reality. My blood boiled with frustration and helplessness. I stood abruptly, my mind racing with the implications of what she had just shared. The urgency of the situation demanded immediate action.
“I can’t just sit here and do nothing,” I declared, my voice sharp with determination. I moved quickly, my purpose clear, and left the bedchambers, my path set toward the council chambers where the discussions were heating up.
As I approached the council chambers, the voices of the council members grew louder, their debates growing more heated. The once serene corridors of the palace now echoed with the urgency and tension of the political crisis.
“Your Grace,” one of the council members was saying, “to ensure stability, we must prioritize supporting House Ambers. They were among the first to declare their loyalty during the rebellion. Their situation is critical, and resources must be allocated to them without delay.”
Their words only fueled my anger. I pushed open the heavy doors of the council chambers, entering with a forceful stride. The room fell silent as all eyes turned to me. Chanyeol, seated at the head of the table, looked up with a mix of surprise and annoyance.
“Your Grace,” I said, my voice cutting through the tense silence, “I must object to this decision. Moonreach is not merely a personal concern. It represents a critical asset for the stability of Iris. Diverting resources away from its restoration jeopardizes not just my family’s legacy, but the stability of the entire region.”
Chanyeol’s gaze was cold and calculating, his eyes narrowing as he assessed me. “Moonreach is important, but right now, our priority must be to stabilize the regions that are on the brink of collapse. House Ambers’ loyalty is crucial to our cause.”
His response was met with murmurs of agreement from the council members, their voices blending into a chorus of support for Chanyeol’s decision. The air crackled with tension as I struggled to maintain my composure.
“Is that what you think of loyalty?” I challenged, my voice rising with frustration. “My father remained neutral, and now, because of that, Moonreach is neglected. You’re letting politics dictate your decisions, while the actual needs of the kingdom are being ignored.”
Chanyeol’s face tightened, and he stood abruptly, his frustration evident. “You think I don’t understand the gravity of the situation? I have to make decisions based on the greater good, not personal grievances. If you cannot see that, then perhaps you are the one who is out of touch.”
The council members exchanged uneasy glances, their expressions reflecting the strain of the discussion. The room seemed to shrink under the weight of our confrontation, and I could feel the chasm widening between Chanyeol and me.
The council chambers buzzed with voices as the debate continued around me. Frustration simmered beneath my surface as I listened to the council’s dismissive attitudes and Chanyeol’s refusal to prioritize the restoration of Moonreach. The air was thick with tension, and every word seemed to drive the point of my futility deeper.
I could no longer contain my anger. The frustration I felt at the council’s disregard for Moonreach and the urgency of our situation boiled over. Without a word, I pushed my chair back and stood abruptly, my heart pounding with a mix of fury and helplessness. I strode out of the chamber, slamming the door behind me, the sound echoing down the stone corridors of Ironhold.
The cold air of the courtyard hit me like a slap to the face as I stormed outside, the night sky a dark blanket above. My anger fueled every step, and I barely noticed the guards who cast wary glances as I passed. I needed to be alone, to find some semblance of clarity away from the suffocating constraints of the council’s discussions.
The castle grounds were eerily quiet, the only sound being the distant murmur of the city. I paced restlessly, trying to calm my racing thoughts. That’s when I heard the faint whisper of footsteps behind me. My senses, sharpened by my anger, picked up on the approaching presence.
The dimly lit alley outside Ironhold felt suffocating. Shadows danced against the stone walls as I tried to regain my composure after the confrontation. The narrow passageway was eerily quiet, the clamor of the city a distant murmur. My heart raced, still pounding from the threat I had narrowly escaped.
Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows, moving with the silent grace of a predator. I barely had time to react before a firm hand grasped my arm, pulling me away from the immediate danger. I looked up, my eyes meeting those of the person who had intervened.
The figure was cloaked, their features hidden in the folds of their hood. “You’re not safe here,” the voice was low and steady, yet it carried an authoritative edge that brooked no argument.
Confusion and gratitude warred within me. “Who are you?” I demanded, trying to peer into the shadows obscuring their face.
The figure’s grip was firm, guiding me through a series of twists and turns until we were in a more secluded area. “Not the time for questions,” the figure said tersely. “You were in danger, and I made sure you weren’t harmed. But we need to move quickly.”
As we reached a hidden alcove, the figure finally lowered their hood, revealing the unmistakable features of Joonmyun Kim, a prominent member of the court. My eyes widened in shock. “You? Why did you help me?”
Joonmyun’s expression was inscrutable, a mask of calm professionalism. “I have my reasons,” he said cryptically. “Right now, you need to understand that not everyone in the court is aligned with the loyalists. There are those who want to see you succeed, but they must operate in the shadows.”
Before I could respond, he glanced around, his gaze alert and calculating. “For now, stay hidden. I’ll see what I can do to mitigate the situation.”
Joonmyun’s unexpected intervention left me with more questions than answers. His motives remained unclear, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that this was just the beginning of a more intricate game of politics and survival.
As the sun set over Stonehearth, casting a muted glow over the city, I stood by the window of my chamber, gazing out at the streets below. Gathering my thoughts on what happened earlier, and what would have taken place if without Junmyeon's help.
But there is a much more important matter on hand, and that was the situation of the people back home. They are awaiting for my return.
“I won’t fail Moonreach,” I whispered to myself, gripping the ledge tightly. “I won’t let them down.”
The night was dark and full of shadows, and I knew that the journey ahead would be fraught with danger. But with determination and resolve, I was prepared to face whatever lay ahead. The fate of Moonreach—and perhaps even the kingdom of Iris—depended on it.

If you had to create a roster for the Einherjar (without using those already on the list) who would you pick from history?
For a more fun one let’s play which Isekai characters would you pick to be an Einherjar?
This was quite fun to do!
1. Alexander the Great, educated, a strong warrior before he was king, responsible for sacking the Persian Empire, but even when the Persian King fled, he left the coward king’s family unharmed, showing that he was also compassionate. He died young and his heirs were assassinated shortly after and the empire promptly fell apart without his guidance.
2. Genghis Khan, one of history’s most infamous leaders, conquered the Mongol Empire plus most of Asia and Europe during his reign. A strong warrior and brilliant tactician who ruled his massive army, and had so many children with various women that his descendants could form their own army today. I love the mystery that nobody knows how he died or where his body is.
3. William Wallace, famous for leading Scotland to its freedom from the English, he may have not been the one to actually do it, but his actions as a warrior and a leader set in motion to the Scots rising up against King Edwards I following his death. His death was tragic, being betrayed and then executed in horrible ways and having his severed body parts displayed around England.
4. Miyamoto Musashi, a ronin samurai who killed his first person at age 13. He traveled alone with no affiliations to train his skills with a sword, which resulted in nito ichi-ryu, better known as kensai, battling with two swords. His most well-known fight was against Sasaki Kojiro, which he won, but then retired to train others with swords and retired with an undefeated record of 61 duels.
5. Spartacus, warrior turned slave turned gladiator turned rebellion leader, courageous but compassionate, a ruthless warrior who offered his enemies both mercy and respect, and led an army of rebels against their oppressors, the Roman Empire.
6. Achilles, who led the Greek army against Troy, killing Hector at the gates, a proud and strong warrior and leader, but he needs to make sure to wear iron boots that are impenetrable as everyone knows his weak spot.
7. Ching Shih, a female pirate who commanded 300 ships and was able to go toe-to-toe with the Chinese Imperial Navy. If you disobeyed you were immediately executed, but the same went for if her men raped captives, she had a no tolerance policy. She ended up getting to retire with all her wealth after the Imperial Government offered both her and her crew amnesty after they were defeated under the agreement that they would stop.
8. ‘Mad Jack’ Churchill, a British solider in WWII that charged into combat with weapons that were not common for the time, such as a sword and long bow. He was disappointed the war ended with the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as he wanted to keep fighting. He once stormed a German held down in Italy with just one other man and captured a mortar position and 42 men with just his sword, long bow and his bagpipes.
9. Amanirenas, one eyed ancient queen of Kush, now modern day Sudan, who fought back against the Roman Empire, after the death of Cleopatra, when they decided to try to expand past Egypt, so viciously that Rome and Augustus were quick declare peace between the two empires after they couldn’t win due to the unbearable heat and the pissed off queen. A fierce tactician who used supposedly used war elephants, fed captors to her pet lion, and defaced Augustus’ statues and kept the head of one statue under the feet of the throne of Kush.
10. Lyudmila Pavlichenko, deadliest female sniper in the world; sniper for the Soviet Union in the Red Army during WWII; nicknamed Lady Death and claimed, during her time as a sniper, to have killed 309 soldiers. Became an advocate for peace and toured the world.
11. Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin a French watchmaker, illusionist, magician and regarded as the father of the modern style of conjuring, having brought magic from something only seen at circuses or similar places like that for the poor, to something of grand entertainment for the wealthy.
12. Richard I of England, a bad king but a brilliant warrior, having spent most of his time in the Crusades, rather than running his own kingdom, or fighting against France
13. Ragnar Lothbrok, Swedish and Danish king, legendary Viking warrior leader who raid both the British Isles and the Holy Roman Empire in the 9th century
As for Isekai~
1. Ainz Ooal Gown- Overlord
2. Rimuru Tempest- That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime
3. Canya- In the Land of Leadale
4. Azusa Aizawa- I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed out my Level
5. Yuna- Kuma-Kuma-Kuma Bear
6. Albedo- Overlord
7. Diablo- That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime
8. Shiraori- So I’m a Spider, So What?
9. Seiya Ryuguin- Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
10. Mamako Oosuki- Do You Love your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?
11. Diablo- How Not to Summon a Demon Lord
12. Hajime Nagumo- Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
13. Teacher and Fran- Reincarnated as a Sword

“Demonizing wolves” really depends on the population. Sure, wolves in the Americas are shy and reclusive, but wolves in Asia (especially South Asia and the Middle East), ironically while being much smaller (only the size of a large dog) are much more historically prone to eating people. In India alone they have been recorded carrying off hundreds of children during the British Raj, and as recently as the early 2000s an elderly Iranian woman fought off a wolf trying to kill her and strangled it to death. Good job elderly lady. Good job.
What are you talking about?

💐 for Darius and Ori! :)
💐 BOUQUET - create a bouqet for them! what do those flowers mean? are any of the flowers their particular favourite? Dang, Whaley, this one's complex! I decided to have some fun and try to use plants native to the areas of the world that I based their home countries off of- to in Ori's case, she's got plants from Western Asia, Persia, India, and North Africa, while Darius has plants from Greece, Italy, Cyprus, and the Balkans. There are a few in there that aren't from their respective regions, but I wanted them in the bouquet because of Symbolism Reasons or because it's legit their favorite flower. Ori: Saffron Crocus- Youthfulness, cheerfulness, and rebirth. I think Ori would look really pretty in stuff dyed with saffron, but that shit's too expensive for our baby monk-mage. She can sigh dreamily at the beautiful dresses the ladies in the cities wear, though.
Egyptian Water Lily- Despite this being a water plant that's blue in shade, Ori is fond of it. In Ancient Egypt, it was associated with death, rebirth, creation, and the sun. Ori likes them because they grew in the water gardens at the monastery she grew up in, and the water gardens were some of her favorite places to lurk.
Pomegranate Flowers- Blood, death, and ambition. Fitting for a girl who's deeply entrenched in all of those things. (Side note- pomegranates are her and Darius' favorite fruit!)
Tulipa agenensis- Belief, trust, and undying, perfect love. I picked this specific flower because it's native to Western Asia and has her color scheme lol
Plumeria- Worship, resilience, devotion, and positivity. Jakhar also has tropical regions, so I wanted to work that into her bouquet somehow. Ori loves this flower- it's simple, it comes in tons of pretty colors, and it smells great. What not to love?
Darius: Common Poppy- Death, the dead, ressurection, and rememberance of fallen soldiers. Perfect plant for a dead man and a former soldier.
Common Jasmine- Modesty, honor, love, spirituality, and divination. This one's his favorite flower, actually! It's not native to Luceria, his home country, but the weather there is good for growing it and so they grow it in abundance. The smell reminds him of his boyhood studying in the gardens at the monastery of Neranna Clementia, or making chains of the blooms with people whose names and faces he's forgotten but nonetheless loves. It always reminds him of home and happy times, and he always brightens when he comes across them.
Laconian Thyme- Bravery, courage, strength, and passage into the afterlife. Both fitting and ironic- Darius is a strong, courageous man who was denied proper passage into the afterlife. Borage- Native to Luceria, the small blue flowers allegedly (because holy shit was finding symbolism for these hard) represent joy and bravery, but were in Greek legend the key ingredient in the nepenthe- a potion of forgetfulness. Darius has some memory problems himself, so it fits.
Sea Daffodils- Death, rebirth, and joy. This is probably another of Darius' favorites- it's a lovely white flower that loves the sea nearly as much as he does.

Wednesday, September 6 - New York City
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We never saw The Statue of Liberty on our way in this morning, as at the expected time of 4:30 AM we were well on our way up the Hudson River. We were off the ship by 8:30 (at a pier a bit further south than expected, which was actually closer to our hotel), and headed east towards our lodging. Even at this hour, it was fairly quiet on the streets until we got closer to 8th Avenue, and by the time we reached our destination near 7th Ave and 49th Street, the sidewalks were crowded, mostly with tourists. We repackaged our small daypacks, dropped off our luggage, and headed out.
First up was heading downtown via subway, to take the Staten Island ferry, allowing us to see lady Liberty from a distance. It was already quite hot (heat advisory), but the breeze out on the water made it bearable, and the waiting areas at the ferry terminals were air conditioned. Our survival strategy for the day was to alternate exploration with air conditioned spaces, since the temperature got up to 95 ("feels like 99"). We explored the financial district a bit, having lunch in a shady park and looking at the facade of the Old Customs Building (5th photo), now partially a Museum of the American Indian. Somewhat ironically, there are four large statues out front, representing the four continents (only Asia, Europe, America and Africa seemed to make the cut). The one representing America has an Indian sneaking up on a woman, or at least that's what it looked like. Not terribly PC, but better than the smaller statues representing the "eight races".
The Wall Street bull (actually not near Wall Street) has become a tourist attraction, and there was a long queue of folks waiting to have their picture taken with it. We cooled off a bit in the old Federal Hall (NPS site, so there were bathrooms, too), and then headed to the 9/11 memorial. It wasn't yet designed or built the last time I was in NYC, and it's actually quite affecting. There are two large voids where the towers stood, and water pours down the sides, and eventually into another smaller void in the middle. The names of those lost are engraved in a railing around the outside of both voids. The new tower at One World Trade Center is rather unfortunate, and somewhat distracts from the simplicity of the memorial. There is also a museum (we didn't go in) and across the street, a subterranean shopping mall and subway entrance, covered at street level by this white wing-like structure. We opted instead to walk west to the Hudson and north through a few parks, before finding another subway stop.
This time our subway car was actually air conditioned, and we got off before Times Square, and headed east to Bryant Park and the NY Library (air conditioning and bathrooms - we were staying hydrated). We finished off our adventure by stopping in Whole Foods to pick up some breakfast foods, and a couple of quick dinners, since our lodging has a small kitchen. By the time we walked back to our room and checked in, we were more than ready for a shower!
We had bought tickets for "Some Like it Hot" before we left, but it was an 8 PM curtain, so we spent a little time wandering around Times Square ahead of the show. There are so many more electronic billboards than the last time I was here, but the same crowds, both before and after the show. "Some Like it Hot" got several Tonys, including best choreography, which was well earned. The story has been adapted to resonate better with current sensibilities, but was still the same basic premise as the movie, and the result was a fun, somewhat overcaffeinated production. Lots of great performances, too.
Tomorrow we will probably head north to Central Park and maybe check out 5th Avenue. It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow, so our strategy will be the same. We are hoping to pick up some tickets for another show at the TKTS booth, as it's a fun way to top off the day (and about the only time when it is actually comfortable to wander around outside).

I'm a woman, not just a woman
I like watching Ted Talks; listening to different people talk about a variety of topics makes me more open to the different perspectives that this world offers. I'm a young adult woman, and I have experiences that a woman in this country has every single day. This week I decided to watch Ted Talks about women's empowerment. In my observations, there's a difference between how people respond to a woman and a man when doing a task. Such as if a woman takes her child to the park, it's normal, while if a man does it, people will praise him as if he did a good job. Why we can't just see it as a normal thing to do for a man to take his child to the park. Another thing is that if a man talks about his ambition, people will praise him, while if a woman talks about her ambition, people will call her ambitious. If a man gives an idea to a group meeting, people will tell him, "You're so good," "You're smart," but if a woman gives an idea, people will tell her, "Don't be too bossy." Literally, she is just giving ideas. In a professional work like politician, office workers, lawyers we always follow the dress code black and white.  That's what men wear; it's the standard, so if a woman is working in a professional setting, she needs to wear the color coding of black and white clothes. The man is the standard; there's a saying that "the higher you are, the less you'll see a woman."
That's the problem; feminism is not anti-men. According to Oxford Languages, feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes. If people will change the way they compliment a girl and the way they communicate with a girl, then it will have a big impact when she becomes a grown woman. Woman who embraces her feminity and is not afraid to wear a colorful dress in the workplace. Woman who is not afraid to speak out. Woman who achieves so many things in life because that's what she loves doing. Woman who doesn't listen to what people are saying, instead she listens in her own mind and heart. Women that fly higher like birds in the sky and are not kept in cages. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the "Iron Lady of Asia," is the woman I'm talking about. Defensor-Santiago, who was known as the "Iron Lady of Asia" despite the fact that most Asian women preferred to remain in the background, was a true figure for women in the twenty-first century. They still look up to her now because of her intelligence, accomplishments, and outspokenness, which make her an exceptional role model for young people. The core of this remarkable woman's legacy is also her extraordinary capacity to rise above personal tragedy and carry on working for the common good.
I'm a woman, not just a woman. I can accomplish all the things I wanted. I'm not bossy; I'm smart. I'm a woman who does things in the extraordinary. I'm a woman, and I can thrive despite what people say. I have many plans and dreams, and I will achieve all of them because I'm a woman, not just a woman. Happy International Women's Month!
