Nanowrimo Project 2022 // Always the Bridesmaid

TL;DR // Enemies-to-lovers that goes through a fake relationship/wedding/marriage between two bisexual rival detectives

Synopsis:

There’s been a string of murders. While tragic, murders are commonplace enough in [Fictional City] that no one blinks an eye when they are reported on the six o’clock news. The victims had nothing in common, so it was largely believed to be the work of separate killers, unrelated and commonplace. Except for one tiny detail: Every single victim had been a part of a wedding party the month prior to their death. Two private detectives were hired to investigate separate incidents, two different murders. When it becomes apparent that this trail of wedding murders has one culprit, it was only natural for them to team up and work together, because two heads are better than one. The only problem: They are rival detectives with differing styles that clash and find each other insufferable. When clue after clue lead them to dead-ends and false information, they are forced to confront the reality that they need to do something drastic to pin down the culprit. Pretending to be engaged and planning a fake wedding to lure out the killer seems extremely out there, but if they can survive a fake relationship, perhaps they can bring down the killer once and for all. It’s a crazy plan, but it just might work. Because if there is one thing for certain… The victim is always the bridesmaid, and never the bride.

Things to note:

Word count goal: 50k. I however have very low expectations for myself. I tend to do Nano for 2 days before stopping.

Takes place in a "soft AU" in a world where private investigators have much more power, influence and authority than the real world.

This is completely pants'd. I have a general direction, my main cast of characters, and that's it. I don't even know who the culprit is!

A favorite memory: having my friend over one summer for lunch at a restaurant and gaming time at my place. Very fun afternoon. One of the first times I got the courage to just ask a friend to come over and hang out, and she was super down for it too so that felt good. (Also I had a crush on her then which made it extra nice haha.) The food was delicious and it was really fun to show her those couple of video games and to play them together, one of which she'd wanted to play for a while. Fun :)

Oh, I love this. What a sweet, summery memory. One of my favorite things to do is play video games with people I love, its so much fun and it always makes my heart feel full :) Thank you so much for sharing, this put such a big smile on my face <3

A memory in exchange: I was babysitting a girl over the summer when I was 15, and it was one of those days where it was super warm and sunny in the morning, but then a rainstorm came in during the afternoon. So, we went outside and were running around in the rain, which was so warm, and everything smelled so fresh. And we were picking raspberries off the bush in her yard, and they were still warm from the sun, and washed off with the rain, and I don't think I've ever eaten something that tasted so lovely in my life.

hello love!!

i have so many things i regret writing; my early poetry, anything pertaining to myself, etc. i think we always look back on our old works with a little regret considering all the experience and talent we've accumulated through the lengthy process called time and practice.

Oof. A quick word vomit on the Mamoru and Usagi break up in episode 61 after listening to Senchatunes heartbreaking arrangement: Sailor Moon R Ep 61 Unreleased Track - Mamoru and Usagi Break Up Song | Usagi's Sorrow. Sen did a really good job here. My heart was heavy and sad for Usagi, and this happened as I listened and tried not to cry. Please consider checking out her youtube and socials. I promise not all of it will make you cry, but you will want to rewatch the series at least lol

Em I am so sorry, I saw your winter poem immediately after reading a post about Maus and some comments discussing terminology, and so I read the first line of your poem as "Can winter be gentile?" which confused me, because I didn't know that winter was Jewish by default? But then I realized my mistake and felt so stupid lmao

Neptune: what’s your favourite music genre?

I would say my favorite music genre is Indie type music! I love bands like The Lumineers and Sleeping at Last that have such a unique sound to all their songs. I also grew up listening to classic rock though, so that genre comes in a close second!

Eris: what's your dream job?

I'm currently going to school to be a high school social studies teacher which I'm pretty excited about! But if I could choose absolutely any job in the world to have, I think I would love to have a job that would let me travel all the time! Maybe something like a journalist that gets to travel and write about all the different places they go :)

That's really cool that you got to do that blackout poetry with kids at your work! The results were very nice too.

I also think blackout poetry is super cool and would like to get more into it. Would you enjoy if we sent each other a photo/screenshot of a page of writing (any source) and then each made a blackout poem from the page we were sent? Seems like it could be a simple and fun writing sharing thing. I'd also be down to do it multiple times or loop more people into it, but for now I'm just sending this offer to you since it's on my mind from your post, and starting small is an easier way to get into things.
