Thousands of people braved intense heat to commemorate the anniversary of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide and attend the mass burial of 14 recently identified victims at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre in eastern Bosnia on Thursday.
They were killed in July 1995 in a series of massacres by Bosnian Serb forces that left more than 8,000 Bosniak boys and men dead. The massacres have been classified as genocide by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, ICTY.
Munira Subasic, president of the Mothers of Srebrenica association, warned that the world “has not learned anything” since World War II.
“Srebrenica is proof of that, and we mothers strive to send a message and warn others so a crime like Srebrenica is never repeated,” Subasic said, speaking in front of foreign and domestic delegations gathered for the memorial event at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre.
She also warned of genocide denial, which remains widespread in Bosnia and Herzegovina and across the former Yugoslav region.
So far, 6,751 genocide victims have been buried at the Srebrenica Memorial Centre. Another 250 victims have been buried at local cemeteries on the decision of surviving family members.
However, in Bosnia, a day of mourning for Srebrenica is only officially commemorated in the country’s Bosniak and Croat-dominated Federation entity. Bosnian Serbs have blocked the state-level Council of Ministers from declaring a day of mourning across the whole country.
After the UN General Assembly voted in May to establish July 11 as an International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica, the 29th anniversary is being marked in other countries too. For the first time, it will be commemorated at a high-level event at the United Nations in New York.
In Serbia on Wednesday evening, peace group Women in Black held a silent vigil in the centre of Belgrade, urging Serbia to establish annual an Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day, although the government refuses to classify the massacres by Bosnian Serb forces as genocide.
In Montenegro, President Jakov Milatovic wrote on X that the suffering of “the innocent Srebrenica victims serves as a painful warning to today’s generations that the evil of July 1995 must never be repeated.” The anniversary was also marked by the country’s Bosniak Council in the capital Podgorica on Thursday. Council president Suljo Mustafic said at the event that “Srebrenica is the saddest word in our language, and Potocari [where the bodies of thousands of victims are buried] is the biggest grave in our history”.
The event was attended by some representatives of ruling and opposition parties and by the mayor of Podgorica, Olivera Injac.
In Pristina in Kosovo on Thursday, parliament held a special session in commemoration of Srebrenica genocide victims and approved a statement on the UN resolution. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Albin Kurti joined a commemoration ceremony organised by the Institute of History.
In his speech, Kurti expressed solidarity and support to Bosnian people. “This crime left open wounds for thousands of Bosnian families, just as it left wounds on humanity’s conscience. Therefore, every anniversary renews the pain, not only for the Bosnian people, but also for us, the people of Kosovo, who experienced the horrors of war 25 years ago,” Kurti said.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a presidential decree on Wednesday declaring that July 11 will be commemorated as Srebrenica Genocide Remembrance Day.
“July 11, accepted as the ‘International Day of Reflection and Remembrance of the Srebrenica Genocide,’ will be commemorated in our country to share the pain, condemn genocide and crimes against humanity, and raise global awareness through special remembrance events, educational activities, and public awareness initiatives in honour of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide,” the decree said.
In recent years, opposition parties and Turkish Bosniak NGOs have been calling on the Turkish government to recognise the Srebrenica massacres as genocide and to declare July 11 a genocide remembrance day.
In 2023, however, parties in Erdogan’s alliance rejected an opposition bill to recognise the 1995 massacres as genocide, sparking angry exchanges in the Turkish parliament and disappointment in Bosnia.
People in North Macedonia will also participate in the July 11 commemorations. On Thursday, in the capital Skopje, the Bosniak National Council will organise its annual commemorative March for Srebrenica.
Memorial events are also being held in some Western European cities, including Bradford in England, where a “Remembering Srebrenica” flag is being raised in the City Park.

GLOSSARY OF COMMON KNOWLEDGE, Vol. 2 Care is conflictual Contribution
Curated by Zdenka Badovinac, Ida Hiršenfelder, Bojana Piškur and Jesús Carrillo. Published by Moderna galerija, Ljubljana, 2022.
The terms by more than fifty narrators presented in this volume were discussed and written between 2019 and 2022 during seminar meetings to bring together diverse knowledges from the museums as well as the so-called global family of artists, thinkers and curators. They seek to find common knowledge to speak about less visible stories in contemporary art and to address systems that govern our ways of thinking in art and beyond. The project has been ongoing since 2014, and it was conceived and curated by Zdenka Badovinac, Bojana Piškur and Jesús Carrillo in the context of L’Internationale confederation of museums as a method of addressing the so-called referential fields. The first series of discussions was published in 2018. For this second edition, we repeated the same referential fields to re-examine how the conditions in our cultural landscape have changed in the drastic raptures of pandemic, war, climate catastrophes, a conservative turn and political upheavals. One of the most visible shifts in this volume compared to the previous edition is a clear need to address the growing urgency of climate change, and to stress the anthropogenic colonial origin of the cataclysmic events, moreover, to entangle this continuous crisis through troubled thinking, and propose not to resign. This volume is also marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and the implications it had on escalating power struggles and injustices. Contributors of terms: Zdenka Badovinac, María Berríos, Miha Blažič (N’toko), Sara Buraya Boned, Jesús Carrillo, Sebastian Cichocki, Fatma Çolakoğlu, Nicolás Cuello, Jakub Depczyński, Kike España, Pauliina Feodoroff, Maddalena Fragnito, Elisa Fuenzalida, Nancy Garín Guzmán, Deniz Gül, Jennifer Hayashida, Ida Hiršenfelder, Alistair Hudson, Maria Iñigo Clavo, Goran Injac, Vladan Joler, Yuji Kawasima, Gal Kirn, Ram Krishna Ranjan, Vali Mahlouji, Sophie Mak-Schram, Javiera Manzi A., Diego Marchante “Genderhacker”, Pablo Martínez, Miran Mohar, Meriç Öner, Bojana Piškur, Theo Prodromidis, Tjaša Pureber, Rasha Salti, Anja Isabel Schneider, Natalia Sielewicz, Antoine Silvestre, Maja Smrekar, Jonas Staal, Bogna Stefańska, Kuba Szreder, Steven ten Thije, Abhijan Toto, Fran MM Cabeza de Vaca, Chương-Đài Võ, Mick Wilson, Onur Yıldız, Joanna Zielińska, Yolande Zola Zoli van der Heide Curated by Zdenka Badovinac, Ida Hiršenfelder, Bojana Piškur and Jesús Carrillo.

It’s not just a crush
A Ladynoir fanfic. Read it on AO3. Part 2 Part 3
Chat Noir and Ladybug were just sitting, chilling on a rooftop after one of their many nightly patrols, when Ladybug said, “What do you do for fun?”
“Fun?” he replied. “I don’t actually have a life outside of this. I’m in the leather twenty-four seven.”
Ladybug rolled her eyes. “Come on, there’s gotta be something.”
He shrugged. “I play video games. I practice Chinese. I’m sort of expected to take over the family business so I do a lot of work on that.”
“Is it fun?”
“It can be.”
They watched the sunset for a few minutes, enjoying a rare clear sky. “Oh wait,” Chat Noir said. “I play piano.”
Ladybug looked at him. “No you don’t.”
“I sure do.”
“I don’t believe you for a hot minute.”
He held up his clawed hands. “Can’t play with these, otherwise I’d show you sometime.”
Ladybug smiled. “Are you any good?”
“I’m sometimes referred to as Mozart reincarnated.”
That earned a laugh. “I don’t believe you.”
Chat Noir smiled back. He wanted to share things about his life with her, but sometimes, it was nice having someone who was apart from all that. Someone who didn’t know Adrien.
“What about you?” he asked. “What do you do for fun?”
Ladybug made a grand gesture and leaned back on her elbows. “I don’t know, this takes up a lot of time.” She rolled her eyes. “And then I’ve got school and the Bac is coming up.”
“Oh, god, me too.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Ladybug made a tsk noise. “Then you know that outside of that, it’s mostly sleep. I make clothes, though. I really like design. And I’ve started painting.”
“Painting?” Chat Noir gave her a sly look. “I don’t believe you.”
She snickered. “Yeah, I wouldn’t believe me either.”
Chat Noir sat in silence for a moment, the question burning on his tongue. Finally, as the sun began to disappear below the skyline, he said, “So no boyfriend?”
Ladybug laid down completely with a sigh. “No, Chat, no boyfriend.” She lifted her head. “No girlfriend?”
Chat looked away. “No.”
There was a pause. “Are you gay?”
“Naw.” He picked at a loose bit of calking. “Are you?”
Ladybug was silent for almost too long. “I’m bisexual,” she said finally.
Chat Noir turned around, wearing his most teasing grin. “Oh really.”
Ladybug laughed. “Oh hush. Get your mind out of the gutter.”
“I can’t,” he replied. “I have a permanent address.”
They laughed, and Chat Noir lay down beside her, propped up on an elbow. “You know that’s totally cool, right?” he asked.
“Oh yeah, no, it’s fine,” she said. “Because, like, I’ve only liked boys so far. And it’s not like I’ve ever had a relationship, so.” She shrugged.
The stars were just starting to peak out of the twilight. The nightglow of the city blocked out all but the brightest, but tonight, a brave few stars were pushing through the black.
Chat Noir said, “I haven’t either.”
Ladybug looked at him and snorted. “Now I definitely don’t believe that.”
He rolled his eyes. “Oh yeah, actually, I forgot the fourteen girlfriends I see biweekly.” He tapped his head. “How could I forget.”
She giggled, staring up at the darkening Parisian sky. Her bright blue eyes were better than the stars. “I don’t know, I just… expected you would have.”
“How could I? I’ve been too hung up on you.”
It got quiet again, like the quiet before Ladybug admitting she was bisexual. Uncomfortable, tense, like old bread that wouldn’t tear, and would have to break.
“Are you still…?” she asked.
Chat Noir took a moment to answer, dropping from his elbow to lie even on his side. “I guess not.” He found a groove in the roof to trace with his claw. “It’s hard to tell.”
Ladybug kept her gaze upwards. “Do you ever think,” she said, “that if, like, gravity turned off, we would just, roll off the earth and fall… forever.”
Chat Noir made a face. “Are you changing the subject.”
“No, actually, I just.” She sighed. “Sometimes it’s really confusing because, okay. There was this guy that I really liked. I liked him for years. And I just… never had the courage to do anything about it.” She folded her hands on her stomach, talking to the arbitrary blackness above them. “I’m not very good at this sort of thing.”
“Neither am I,” Chat said. “You know, in case you want, I don’t know, solidarity or something.”
Ladybug turned to on her side to face him. “I actually… wanted to ask you. Out.”
He stared up at her. Then realized she expected a response. His heart quickened. “Do you think you could repeat that?”
“Do you want to go out with me.”
“Yeah that’s what I thought you said.”
Ladybug looked at him, expectant.
Chat grimaced. “I don’t know what to say!”
“You’re allowed to say no, Chat, it won’t kill me.”
“Well… why?”
Ladybug scowled. “I explained the why, like, a minute ago. In fact I led with the why.” She sighed and sat up. “It’s fine, forget it.”
“No, no.” Chat sat up too, and placed a hand on her shoulder. “I’m not saying no. I’d be an idiot to say no. But, all those years, that was just harmless flirting. I never expected anything.” He smiled, just a little. “But, Ladybug, I don’t even know your name.”
Ladybug scratched at her arm and Chat withdrew his hand. “We don’t have to know names yet,” she said. “I just want to, I don’t know, make out and bring you pastries. Cuddle. Whatever.” She chewed on her lip. “And if that’s fine with us, then we… do the name thing.”
Chat Noir looked down and tried to find a loose thread in his leather outfit. “So you want to date someone without even knowing their name?”
Ladybug put her legs flat on the roof. “Oh god,” she said. Then, quickly, “if I tell you my name you’ll know who I am.”
Chat Noir was stunned. “You sure?”
“You’ve met me as a civilian.”
“Oh.” Another silence. Still tense, but more crumbly. Chat said, “You’d know me by my name too.”
She turned her head. “So what do we do?”
Chat Noir shrugged. “I guess we do your method.”
“Hm?”
He gave her a nudge. “My favorite pastries are the ones with pâte d’amande.”
Ladybug grinned. “I’ll see what I can do.
They both lay back on the roof again, to stare up at the darkness. Chat Noir grabbed her hand, and she squeezed his in return. It was quiet, probably the best quiet so far, with each of them content with the conclusion of their talk. Chat was thinking that someday soon, he might know the striking woman behind the spotted mask. Ladybug was thinking about her father’s amande chocolat recipe and how much dough was in the fridge.
“Hey,” Chat said softly. “When you look up at the sky and think about falling up into it, is it beautiful? Or is it terrifying?”
She shrugged. “A little of both, I guess.” Her lips twitched with a smile. “If I were a literary character it’d probably have a lot of significance.”
“Something about falling in love,” Chat supplied. “Being both beautiful and terrifying.”
Ladybug turned her head and gave him with a most unconvinced look.
He said, “Can we get to the making out part now?”
“You’re as smooth as gravel.”
“I live to serve.”
Ladybug giggled and leaned forward, rolling slightly, until their noses touched and their lips met. They held it for a short while, ten seconds at the most, and then they pulled away.
Chat asked, “Was that your first kiss?”
Ladybug laughed, loud. “What? What kind of question is that?”
“A serious one!”
She damn near cackled. “Oh my god you don’t remember.” Her grin revealed little dimples in her cheeks that Chat made a note to kiss later. “I had to kiss you years ago to stop an akuma attack.”
Chat blinked, once, twice, and then sat up. “What!!?”
“It was that dark cupid guy! Kim!”
“I don’t believe you!”
Ladybug was practically rolling with laughter. “It’s true, it’s true.”
“My adolescence,” Chat wailed. “My poor pubescent fantasies! I spent hours imagining how it would feel to kiss you only for you to tell me that I tasted such sweet fruits years ago!?”
Ladybug was holding her stomach and had tears leaking out her eyes. “I’m sorry, I just… ha… I was embarrassed.” She laughed so hard she snorted a little.
Oh, hell, Chat was still in love with her.
He grinned and lay back down beside her. “Embarrassed!” he cried. “You should be embarrassed now. You denied a poor hormonal boy his dream for years, only to reveal that he actually had it all along.” He shook his head. “You are too cruel, my lady.”
“Come here,” she said, arms open. “Let me make up for it.”
With his elbows on either side of her head he kissed her, open-mouthed, with tongue. Oh, twelve-year-old Adrien was popping the biggest bottles right now. She tasted like springtime, even though autumn was ending. She made heat rise in his chest and his heart stutter against his breastbone when she took his hair in her fists.
He pulled up. “Wow,” he said, breathless.
Ladybug panted slightly, her cheeks almost as red as her suit. “That was way better than I imagined.”
Chat grinned toothily. “You imagined it, my lady?”
“Yes, I fantasized about kissing you. Come back so I don’t have to do it anymore.”
With the grip she had on his hair it wasn’t like he had much choice. They kissed and breathed and laughed and kissed until a nearby church sounded the hour. Together, they paused, mentally counting the strokes. Ten o’clock.
Ladybug pouted. “It’s late,” she whined. “I have to go.”
“One more hour.”
“Oh my god.”
“Forty-five minutes?”
She laughed. “No, I have to go now if you want that pastry tomorrow.”
Chat Noir pouted, but moved over. Ladybug sat up and fanned at her cheeks. Chat Noir was feeling pretty hot himself. “Same time tomorrow, then?” he asked.
Ladybug nodded, then leaned over and kissed him again. “See you tomorrow.” Then she stood up, blushing, and zipped away.
Chat Noir watched his lady fade into the night and took a moment to breathe. Ladybug had kissed him. It really happened. And tomorrow she was going to kiss him again.

Pod izgovorom borbe protiv kriminala, napadaju obične građane, prvenstveno Crnogorce i Crnogorke, a sve zbog nepokolebljivosti u odbrani domovine, naše kulturne i istorijske baštine”, kaže Zvicer.

ELBASAN GOSPEL MANUSCRIPT (1761)
Gregory of Durrës (Gk. Grêgorios ho Dyrrakhíu), also known as Gregory of Voskopoja, was an Orthodox cleric who was appointed Archbishop of Durrës in 1768 and who died some time before May 1772. He is known to have made Bible translations in an alphabet he invented himself, and most historical and linguistic evidence would seem to point to him as the author of the unique Elbasan Gospel Manuscript (often referred to in Albanian as ‘Anonimi i Elbasanit’) presented here. Gregory of Durrës was reputed to have been one of the most learned persons in southern Albania during the lifetime. Despite this fact, we know tragically little about him. Gregory’s Elbasan Gospel Manuscript contains Albanian-language translations of New Testament texts in an original alphabet which he invented himself. The alphabet occurs only in this text, and we can date to the year 1761. This unique manuscript was acquired at some point before or during the Second World War by Lef Nosi (1877-1946), an Elbasan scholar and collector of note. Nosi, who is reputed to have possessed the second largest library in Albania, was arrested in August 1945 after the communist takeover of Albania and was shot in February 1946 after a mock trial. The manuscript then found its way into the hands of communist scholar Dhimitër Shuteriqi (1915-2003) who announced its discovery in 1949. It was initially transcribed and published by historian Injac Zamputi (1910-1998), and is currently preserved in the Albanian National Archives in Tirana.

TRANSLATION
Holy Good Friday. Oh, blessed Christians. Christ, our Lord, called the apostles and revealed to them that day
that he wanted to be crucified, and said to them: Oh, my beloved sons, as you know, the Passover is two days away and then I want to give myself up so they can crucify me. Then the chief priests and the scribes
assembled in the palace of the high priest Caiaphas and conferred with one another to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. They said: Let us not arrest him now on the days
of the feast, for it was Saturday, so that he not be surrounded by crowds who want to hinder us for so much of ...........  of God wanted

It’s not just a crush
Part 3. Part 2. Part 1. Read it on AO3
fic tg: injac
Adrien was reluctant to leave home that night. He had said he’d go, but. Well. He wasn’t sure he was up for rejection tonight.
Eventually he got up enough courage to transform and make his way to their usual rooftop spot. He was a little late, and Ladybug was already there.
“Hey,” he greeted.
“Hey,” Ladybug said. “I, um, brought a blanket.” She gestured to the blanket she had lain on the roof. “And… dessert.”
“Cool,” Chat said. It was awkward. Of course it was. He wondered if it was too late to leave.
Ladybug sat down on the blanket. “Do you want to join me?”
Slowly, Chat Noir sat down and occupied the corner farther from Ladybug. She noticed.
“So,” Ladybug said, “I brought your favorite! Pain chocolat amande. And eclairs. And meringue. Basically what we didn’t sell today.” She smiled, nervous. “Still good, though.”
Chat eyed the basket before reaching out to pull out an almond paste pastry. “So you work in a bakery?” he guessed.
“Yeah,” Ladybug said quickly. She watched him take a bite. “I, uh, actually wanted to tell you. But I was afraid it would be a giveaway.”
Chat Noir chewed. It was really good, but he was feeling so down he couldn’t wholly enjoy it. “I see.”
Ladybug was antsy. Chat tried to focus on a spot beside her, to avoid looking at her directly. Finally, she said, “I want to tell you everything.”
Chat paused in his chewing, and met her eyes. He swallowed. “Huh?”
“I want… I want to tell you what I’m studying in school,” she said. “I want to tell you about my best friend and about my parents and the cats in the neighborhood. And. I want to tell you about me. I want to tell you my name.”
Chat put his pastry down. “Are… are you sure?”
“If you’re sure about what you said yesterday,” she replied.
Chat’s heart was beating fast. He could hear it in his ears like a drum. He practically hurled the words from his throat. “I’m Adrien Agreste.”
Ladybug froze, her jaw hanging open. “…Are you kidding me?”
He shook his head violently. “No, I’m not.”
Ladybug blinked several times, and then she burst out laughing.
Chat said, “You don’t believe me.”
“Oh my god,” Ladybug said. “I’m… I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
Chat Noir’s heart stopped. “You’re not.” He looked at the pastry. “Oh my god.” He looked at her again. “Oh my god of course you are!”
“I can’t believe it’s you!” said Marinette—Marinette! “This—I—I had a crush on you for years!”
“Really?”
“Yeah, I had posters of you on my walls!”
“I had Ladybug posters!”
“No way.”
“All right, fine, I still have them.”
Marinette shook her head, smiling so big, and Adrien could see her eyes starting to glisten. “I just can’t believe…” she murmured. “This whole time. It was you.”
Chat grinned. “The guy you liked liked you back the whole time!” He paused. “The girl I liked,” he whispered, “liked me back the whole time.”
Ladybug said, “We’re ridiculous. Give me a meringue.”
“We should go on a date,” Chat realized. He hurried to move to where he was on one knee. Ladybug snickered. “Please, Marinette, let me take you on a date.”
Ladybug had a mouthful of meringue. “You’re gonna take me on lots of dates, don’t worry.”
“Tomorrow night.”
“We have that history test Friday!”
“Oh. I forgot.” Chat recovered quickly. “Study date.”
Ladybug brushed some crumbs from the corner of her mouth. “I don’t believe for a minute that we’d actually study.”
“Ugh,” Chat whined. “You’re making this so hard. Friday night then. Right after that history test, we’ll go out.”
“Will I get to see that fabled six pack?”
“If you had my posters that means you’ve already seen it.”
“Touché.”
