what's up with there being 10(ish) Sigs?
Covered this a lil in my reblog of Res' post, but-
Iterators in Assembly AU can't do the fandom standard off the string thing, just not how they work, they gotta make lil extra versions of their own mind and slap em in mobile bodies instead. Most iterators find the resulting quasi-plurality kind of uncomfortable, and merge their minds together whenever possible to avoid having multiple separate minds active in the same area. However! Some, like Sig, are actually more comfortable that way, and embrace it as a new part of their identity and self expression.
My Sigs have more selflings than any other iterator, mostly because they were one of the first to have access to the tech and just didn't stop making them. There are many many more than just 10, depending on where you look in the timeline. They also play with their bodily configuration much more than most iterators, making a wide variety of varyingly biological or mechanical bodies to house their selflings in, and enjoying the subtle differences in their personal expression, selfhood, and identity they experience depending on what body they're in. They're just funky little guys 🙏
#3sig+#asks#assembly#yeah like by 3sig+ timeline onset there's close to 100 sig selflings. and in time that number definitely grows#they do a lot of travelling#and repair and maintenance work#in general my sigs just. really like to play with their identity and personal expression and gender#individually they use he him pronouns but they them is also accurate both in a gender way and a plural way#and in general any pronouns are fine#sigs stance on gender is yes please#all the gender all the personal expression everything

My thoughts on the trans rep in "The Star Beast"
This episode is haunted by the spectre of Good Representation™. Representation is a topic too expansive and nuanced for me to interrogate fully, so I'll just say I'm sceptical of the approach and the way it reduces trans (or otherwise marginalised) characters to plot points or blandly by-the-book portrayals. Also the idea that any single character can accurately represent an entire demographic is tenuous. Anyway.
Throughout the episode there's a huge focus on how beautiful Rose is, which is... I mean, I'd hardly be the first person to point out how Weird people (cis people especially) can get about how trans people look. And I get that this is probably a deliberate attempt to counter transphobia, to stress that trans people are cherished and deserve the world. It is a sweet sentiment I suppose, but it can come across as a bit... insincere? patronising? fetishistic, even? You have to recognise that correlating a person's worth with how beautiful you think they are is problematic in and of itself.
I actually really like the scene where Sylvia is stumbling on pronouns and worrying about whether or not it's okay to call Rose gorgeous. It's cute. It's genuine. I wasn't sure about the boys on bikes scene that preceded it – I thought deadnaming Rose was a clumsy way to establish that she's trans – but I've watched the episode again and my opinion has softened. I think it works well to have the malicious misgendering side-by-side with the accidental misgendering, showing that, yes, there is a difference. I know this already, but cis people who get confused about terminology and etiquette might benefit from watching this.
Speaking of pronouns... haha. Yeah, I did not like the "are you assuming he as a pronoun?" "my chosen pronoun is the definite article" exchange. Very awkward and nonsensical. It could have worked with some tweaking, but as it stands it feels more like a transphobic joke than actual dialogue. Ditto "male-presenting Time Lord."
Side note: why are some people so thrown off by the Doctor's gender? It's really not that complicated. The Doctor's pronouns vary depending on whether we're talking about an individual incarnation or the Doctor as a whole, encompassing all incarnations. If we're talking about a specific Doctor, they've all been he/him so far except for the Thirteenth and Fugitive Doctor (both she/her). If we're referring to all Doctors as one entity, it makes sense to use they/them since they're not consistently one gender or another. The Doctor is technically nonbinary I guess but only because they have the ability to regenerate into any gender. They're genderfluid only if you squint.
ANYWAY.
Is Rose nonbinary? Again, the "binary, binary, nonbinary" line just felt like a joke. Plus it doesn't make a lot of sense as a plot point/reveal. Rose's gender shouldn't actually be relevant because what's important for the meta-crisis thing is that she's Donna's offspring. There's also the fact that Rose had been presented as a trans girl until that point – no indication that she's nonbinary. Yes, it is possible to be a nonbinary girl, but it seems more likely to me that RTD just thinks nonbinary and trans are synonymous. Which is not the case.
The thing is, as I've alluded to already, Rose is an example of trans rep written by cis people for cis people. RTD's heart is in the right place, for sure, but he doesn't really know what he's talking about. I would say I appreciate the effort? But I don't know what the effort was in aid of exactly. I suppose it's nice for cis people to be told it's okay to stumble on pronouns sometimes, and to be shown that transness isn't a horrible and scary thing. I dunno. It's frustrating that trans people in life and in fiction have to educate and inspire and reassure cis people all the time... but we live in a society, don't we? And I'm sure there will be plenty of young trans people thrilled to see someone like them on TV, even if the execution could have been better.

okay uh I have a feeling you’re going to get a disproportionate number of questions about the pale-looking Tav on the left (are they Yetave?? pls replace the pronouns here in your brain with whatever ones are accurate) because you’ve made a very beautiful androgynous individual and put them on tumblr dot com, so that was your first mistake (/j), but I’ve decided to be part of the problem, so for the cool androgynous Tav on the left:
do they like the way they look?
it seems like a lot of people would perceive them as being attractive - if that is the case, do they like or dislike the way that influences people’s behaviour towards them? or does it not bother them either way?
what does their appearance tend to signify to others (ie do people tend to see them as masculine or feminine, or as being a particular social class, or as unusual in their fashion tastes), and what assumptions tend to get made about them most often based on their appearance?
are the judgements people make based on their appearance accurate? do they like or dislike those assumptions?
do they fit any of the stereotypes of their gender (whatever that is)? are there some or a lot of those stereotypes that they don’t fit with at all? any they particularly like/dislike?
I’m assuming the little symmetrical marks on their face are a tattoo - if they are, whose decision was it for them to get that tattoo? Their own, or someone else’s? If they’re not a tattoo, then where did they come from? (also do they think their lil tattoo/mark things are cute? I think they’re very cute)
are people often intimidated by them?
do they want people to be intimidated by them?
how dangerous are they to be around?
what are their thoughts on hugs? cuddling? out of ten, how much do they enjoy that sort of thing? asking for a friend
if they’re the one who’s dating Wyll, what are their favourite things about him? What are their favourite Wyll activities? If not, are they dating anyone and what are the answers to those questions about the person(s) they are dating?
are they monogamous/polyamorous/something else?
what kind of combat abilities do they have, and how did they acquire them? do they like the role they’ve ended up in off the back of that (tank/healer/damage/support/some combination thereof)?
favourite new capability/power they have gained on their journey? (social/financial power can also count)
if they could pick any part of the world (you can answer for Toril/Faerûn or for like a real world AU) and any kind of building to live in, what would they pick?
would they rather live on Toril or in the real world, if they had the choice?
what height do you imagine them as being?
big spoon? little spoon? or uh, switch spoon, I guess? middle spoon? is that a thing??
what species are they?
are they a Dark Urge or nah? thoughts on violence? if they’re a blood and murder enjoyer for any reason (Dark Urge or otherwise), what is their favourite violence? if not, what is their least favourite violence? (can be the kind of violence they find most distasteful in general, or the thing that scares them most, or just the kind of injury they find most inconvenient/annoying to receive.) or you can just answer both :3
Please feel free to answer as few or as many of these as you like! :D I have. Many questions about your lil dude (gn) I have been transfixed by their silly goofy lil face and their Prettiness TM
Oh buddy this ask is an annoying person’s(me) dream. Ill do a little tldr on Yevate
-They use they/him pronouns. No problems with being perceived as masc/male or being referred to as “brothers” when with their half brother Tavarne
-theyre a shadow monk rogue with shogun protagonist energy. Like seriously, he goes “heh” before he punches someone. Absolute loser behavior please point and laugh at them
-notable battle skill? Being unconscious. Asking everyone else in the party to please heal please please heal him he’s bleeding out
-they admire Wylls Blade of the Frontiers persona and how cool and heroic he is. Wyll is,,, trying to help them be an actual hero and not just challenge every stranger to a duel. Its a very Roger and Jessica Rabbit relationship “what do you see in that guy” “he makes me laugh” dynamic

me and The Council (my girlfriend) have discussed and come to important anthropological conclusions about the trolls of the trolls franchise.
this is very serious science, which is to be taken EXTREMELY seriously.
there is no physical sexual dimorphism in trolls. they are capable of asexual reproduction, meaning it's likely that every individual holds both eggs and sperm.
trolls likely determine sex by pheromone. this is why they are able to tell the sex of a newborn within seconds of birth without even looking at it.
trolls have two sexes, one denoted with he/him pronouns, and one denoted with she/her.
these he/him and she/her sexes can't accurately be called "male" and "female" because, as stated, there is no distinction between the two save for pheromone. they are strictly social.
what purpose do these sexes serve then, if not for reproduction? it's quite obvious. song. the he/him sex usually have low voices, and the she/her sex usually has high voices. they are drawn to close relationships not for reproductive purposes, but for musical purposes.
there are some trolls of the she/her sex that have low voices, and vice versa. this brings me to my next point: trolls can change their pheromones, and thus, their sex, at will.
again, there are no physical markers of troll sexes, so changing sexes in this context would be a purely social shift.
as much as it's possible for trolls to reproduce asexually, it's probably also possible for them to reproduce sexually, as we see with trolls like king quincy and queen essence, who are both considered cooper and prince d's parents.
despite laying eggs, trolls display mammalian affection patterns, like hugging, hand holding and cuddling. as such, it's pretty likely that trolls would use sex as a sign of affection and closeness so. go crazy i guess
this is the end of our EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ANTHROPOLOGICAL RESEARCH. we must know what these creatures are, and where they learned human songs.

League of Extraordinary Gentlepeople!!!
League of Extraordinary Gentlepeople!!!
League of Extraordinary Gentlepeople!!!
Pls tell me everything 😎
Let‘s-a fucking gooooo!
I’ve already done a post explaining the basics but I’m going to go over it quickly, again: it’s the late 1800s and war is brewing in the horizon. A mysterious individual known only as Agent M sends his men around the world to recruit what he calls “extraordinary people”, human beings with particular abilities that he believes are the key to saving the world from the villains who, in the shadows, are planning to put an early World War into motion.
What this team doesn’t know is that M, aka Moriarty, has reunited them to take something from them- and to unlock the secrets of their abilities. Why, they’d make excellent weapons! Nemo’s technology could be used to create the ultimate war-machines! Mina’s dhampir powers are the key to harnessing hypnotism and regeneration! Jekyll’s serum could turn a regular man into a monster capable of anything!
I’ve stolen that plot from the movie because the movie fucks immensely.
The main changes with the comics/movie lore are:
-Mina and Jonathan are still very much an item (and they’re both dhampirs), albeit Jonathan is mostly offscreen and unseen.
-Allan is replaced by Irene Adler (I never really liked Allan much, plus I don’t know what his personality is beyond Sad Old Man). Irene is the Socialite of the team and she keeps them funded, connected, and insured (don’t you forget she’s outwitted Sherlock Holmes more than once!).
-Griffin is… just Griffin. His personality doesn’t change much from the book, so he’s grumpier and way, WAY less gross than comics!Griffin. The main issue the team has with him is that he’s a chronic complainer and that every now and then he makes comments about taking over the world that don’t sound quite jokey… Ah, and he’s legally blind. He also can become visible again and spends most of the time like that, since being invisible makes him anxious and paranoid. More than usual I mean.
-Nemo is basically the same as the book (I have read an abridged version- still have to read the full book, give me some time), but Nemo gets tentacle beard and NO pronouns! And a very sweet robot arm.
-Mr. Hyde is basically the same as movie LXG Hyde because I love that characterization. I won’t lie, my AU version of Hyde is based off that Hyde in pretty much everything save for a few traits. They also get the potty mouth he has in the comics (…with less slurs, I’m not THAT mean) and a book accurate design (since here the time skip is relatively short). I need you to imagine a very short guy, like four feet eight, tank his way through Moriarty’s secret lair.
-Tom is replaced by Alice (from In Wonderland), but dw, he will show up in later issues… once I get to outline them.
The main changes are in the setting really, every change in the plot stems from there. Basically Candyverse, my public domain universe AU crossover thingy… is a fantasy world version of earth that is slowly turning into a soft science fiction world version of earth. Surprise! And yes, the Martians are going to show up. Don’t be impatient! (…again, I also have to outline the sequels… Gulps.)

I remember you saying that NB representation sucks in a lot of Visual Novels and I honestly agree. As someone who is demi-gender themselves I see a lot of non binary characters getting to be gender selectable with cis male/cis female/non binary being the options. I personally don't think that non binary people and cis people's gender can be interchanged because our experiences are quite different to those of a cis person, not just in the way we view the world but also in the way we view ourselves and our gender, specially when it comes to issues relating to gender disphoria and gender euphoria. I think it would take a very nuanced writer to be able to do the gender switching with the inclusion of non binary as an option. I would honestly rather have the NB character be gender locked. There also seems to be this generalisation in a lot of games/novels where NB characters are almost all like to present as androgineous (which some people do ofc and that's completely fine!), but there are also some of us thst like to present in a more masculine or more feminine way or those of us who don't really like to be confined to a single gender identity. There's so much nuance and intricacies to the non binary experience that I think cannot be properly represented by making the NB gender option selectable as if it was some sort of secret third gender in between male and female. Idk it's just something that's been bugging me lately. I would love to see some rep for more of the NB community as well, I barely see any demi-gender, agender, transmasc/transfem enbies etc... I would also love for games to give non binary players the choice to be able to choose different pronouns that aren't they/them by default because not every NB person uses they/them pronouns. I'm demi-gender and use personally any pronouns, but I know people who fall under the NB umbrella and use he/him or she/her or other pronouns. I would love to hear a bit more about your opinion on the NB rep in these games. I hope I explained myself properly since English isn't my first language. :))
No worries, English isn't my first language either so I wouldn't judge if you didn't, but you did! :)
I think my biggest problem with it is that it's just ... very hollow representation. You can swap between cis characters because they tend to follow a relatively strict gender binary by definition, so it's quite literally like flipping a switch. Presentation can vary based on character, while still remaining accurate to their gender. Meaning, if you have a wealthy snob character for example, he can either wear a fancy suit, or she can wear a fancy dress, all while still being essentially, convincingly, the same person without any major change to their character. By definition, cis people are comfortable where they are, and that consistency is what unites both genders. Their (relative) lack of movement outside the binary is what makes male vs female characters interchangable in a cosmetic sense. (This is oversimplifying of course, but you get what I mean.)
Nonbinary people, though? And often binary trans people? Gender expression (or lack thereof) is a highly conscious and highly individual decision. A wealthy snob enby can be a thousand different things and express it in a thousand different ways, all while still being nonbinary. By questioning and stepping outside of the binary and into the spectrum, you are now on your personal journey that will be unlike anyone else's. But accounting for that that would fundamentally change the character at their core. At that point, they're their own character, and you might as well write them that way.
Instead, that personal journey is erased for the sake of a "middle ground" gender expression, often meaning androgyny. And not to get all "what's in their pants?" on this, but I've noticed that there's a lot of desexualization going on as part of this, as well. Because the author doesn't want to pick them being more "male" or "female", to "misgender" their character by describing any secondary sex characteristics, they skirt around picking any sort of physical markers for them, and avoid describing any sort of sexual characteristics at all, which sticks out in games where sex and/or romance are key parts and descriptions of romance options are plentiful.* But a nonbinary person's relationship to their body and sexuality is also a part of our gender expression and identity. Erasing our bodies for the sake of not appearing to "pick" one of the cis genders, does not make for good rep, IMO. It kind of feels bad, actually. Like you can only be nonbinary if your body is a void of skinny, androgynous nothingness and doesn't lean too much one way or the other.
To me, when there's a "third option" for a love interest's gender, it has never (at least in none of the games I've played so far) felt like a meaningful decision on the author's part. They don't take into account how their character would change if they were nonbinary, how it's kind of a big deal and a fundamenal difference between them being nonbinary and them being one version of cis out of two. It becomes like a third cis gender. Like this person has just become a nebulous, androgynous Other Thing, all while nothing about them actually changes the way it would in real life.
Re: pronouns for player characters: I get why authors limit pronouns to just three options, it's usually for programming reasons, but what I'd prefer they do is decouple pronouns from gender. In W@yhaven for example, if you pick that your PC is nonbinary, you're just stuck with "they/them" pronouns, the game never asks you which you prefer and everyone just assumes to know. I think that's kind of limiting, but luckily I'm seeing a lot of progress in that particular area.
*There is an evil opposite to this, believe it or not. I once encountered one VN where the nonbinary character was the ONLY ONE to get their genitals specifically mentioned. This is the opposite of desexualising them, and is in fact very othering. Like, "Oh these other guys are cis so you can assume what's in their pants. THIS PERSON, though? Don't worry, there's a dick down there. You had to know this, we won't afford this person the same courtesy we did the other characters, because your knowledge of their genitals is more important." Don't do this. It sucks.
Anyway, thank you for your message! I hope my reply was satisfactory! ^^

neopronouns are just fun for me and they make me feel like people are actually recognizing my queer identity rather than ignoring it because it’s ‘unsavory’ or whatever. it kinda makes it so that my identity and existence is recognized in some way and can’t just be pushed out of the way because other people don’t care or don’t personally like it. and i just like the way they sound and look. i like using all sorts of different words and descriptors for myself to supplement my gender because it is quite loose and flowy and fluid and flexible, and using differing words helps me express that.
i do also use they/them, and they/them is always fine, but it’s just not complete i feel like. i’d be fine i suppose if people only used they/them for me because it doesn’t make me feel bad, but it just doesn’t really make me feel anything as opposed to other pronouns that make me feel happy and good. they/them is a gender-neutral default to me that doesn’t inherently have any gender connotations, but it can for some certain people. sure, in english it defaults to not gendered, but some people just don’t like it or it feels wrong to them.
and on the question of why someone who uses neopronouns doesn’t just use they/them, a lot of the times people do. many people who use neopronouns may primarily use them online or in other primarily queer circles because they are accepted a lot more easily, and in other places like a job where neopronoun usage is not as accepted or is considered ‘improper’ the person may use they/them pronouns or another set of ‘normal’ pronouns. those pronouns probably aren’t the pronouns that the person would prefer, but many people recognize that at this point the general public doesn’t really understand or know how to use neopronouns, and the individual may pick a set of traditional pronouns (like they/them) that is ‘okay’ to use rather than neopronouns for certain situations. people often call these auxiliary pronouns, meaning basically supplementary pronouns that are alright if other pronouns cannot be used. some reasons that auxiliary pronouns might be provided for use are because neopronouns are tricky for many people, especially at first, and can be near impossible for certain individuals to use or follow because of things like disabilities and language barriers.
i use any pronouns and any neopronouns, which means nothing used on me is incorrect, but i do have some preferences within that. in my daily life i typically tell the average person that i use they/them or sometimes he/him pronouns, because those are the most comfortable pronouns for me that the average person understands how to use and is comfortable using. in reality, i typically prefer it/its, any neopronouns, or he/him be used for me because they just feel more accurate. my favorite neopronouns can and do change over time, especially as how i feel about and express myself changes, but i am someone who is okay with any of them in general.
i use a lot of neopronouns that aren’t nounself pronouns either (like bee/beeself where the pronoun is based off an established noun in english), because honestly they just feel nice to me. some of my favores right now are sie/hir (to me it has elements of femininity that i like to be able to express without straight up being called a girl), ae/aer (a pronoun created in a book in 1920 used for aliens that i connect with due to my gender feeling a bit alien), and ne/nem (which was originally created as people felt that saying ‘he/she’ or ‘he or she’ was clumsy and wanted an alternative singular word to use in place of both, and i like it because i think it sounds nice and it is representing both masculinity and femininity).
and again, why use a neopronoun instead of they/them (what is widely considered a neutral default)? well why use any pronouns at all? why doesn’t everyone just use they/them? why do people use he/him and she/her instead of everyone just using a neutral default? some languages do this already by default and there is only one pronoun for people, regardless of the gender of the person being referred to.
a neopronoun really is just a nickname but formatted in a way so that we don’t all sound like cavemen while speaking. that’s what any personal third person pronoun is in reality. it’s just a nickname so we don’t say someone’s name over and over again.
easiest explanation i have for pronouns that "don't make sense" (neopronouns, he/him lesbians, etc) is that a person's pronouns are basically just a nickname we use for that person so we don't have to constantly say their name when talking about them. a person's pronouns also tend to have an association tied to them, which is usually an indication of their gender. that said, much like how your nickname can mean whatever you want it to mean, your pronouns can mean whatever you want them to mean

hi! i just finished reading your cdap au and i just gotta say how much i love your addicule, they're all so charming!! i especially appreciate that they don't treat spamton like a child, but are still patient with him... I've been turned off of other fics because of that kind of thing. also I'm genuinely so impressed with your ability to use multiple different pronouns for each of them without it getting confusing, i never thought it could be done tbh but you do it so well!! anyways to leave you with a funny mental image, idk if you've ever seen the tiktok (i think?) of this really tall woman teasing her short bf like "you been drinking your milk??" and swinging him around like he's nothing? yeah that's the addisons and spam
I pride myself on not infantilizing any vunarable or off characters I get my hands on. I wanted the addicule to feel both like a bunch of individual break ups in one big break up of a big relationship! I really should get back to working on it but yknow.
As for the vid I know the one. It’s accurate but I believe the “Why is he on the counter.” Fits just a bit better cause the Addisons accept their short kid!
#a tip with the pronoun thing is name then pronoun#so many people don’t preface whose in the scene so you as the reader lose track of whose being talked about#ask#cdap au#anon#like Surv is mostly he but also uses they but I’m more inclined to use he or start with Surv if it’s a scene when Banner or Spam cause#get confusing so it’s about like paying attention

Do you think referring to nonhuman animals as anything other than it/its or they/them might be bio essentialist and transphobic? I’ve been trying to work it out am not sure. The reason for wondering in the first place is because we all assign these gendered pronouns based on bio sex. Or “sex” given its constructed. And that just reinforces the idea you can assign gender based on looking at genitals. I hope in the future all babies are called they/them and presented with gender later so they can choose. With animals unless they can talk and relate to our cultures that will never happen. So they are forever it or they. That’s my reasoning
I'm going to assume this is a good faith question and not a TERF trying to gotcha me, but I will say it's very strange to approach a stranger (that you know is transgender) and engage them like this. If I were a trans person that wasn't educated in gender studies, this question would be difficult to answer, and may lead to confusion on the part of both parties. I am not openly an educator on these topics, these are my opinions.
I think the argument "we should use gender neutral terminology for animals" and "we should use gender neutral terminology for infants" are two wildly different topics of discussion. The reason why there is little legitimate discussion of animal pronouns in the popular imagination is because of two main reasons; gender is a social construct, and dysphoria is a social construct.
The idea that gender is seperate from sex (otherwise known as gender theory) emerged in the 80s, and I believe it accurately describes the human experience, being that I know transgender people, and I am myself a transgender person. It's a larger topic too big to tackle in this ask whether or not we would feel dysphoria or euphoria in a world without the concept of gendered separation and/or gender roles, but as is, gender theorists posit that the internal gender identity of a person does not necessarily match with their birth sex. The concept that sex was also a social construction didn't come about until later on, but I will address that later.
If we are to understand the construction of a gendered society as a collection of people in the same geographical location operating under the same social contract to, in theory, better themselves and the other people living in that society, then we can understand gender as something that is reinforced through language and action. To use english as my example, as the only language I'm familiar with, we have a set of pronouns each for "women" and "men," based on their capability to reproduce, and/or based on the role they fill in society. We additionally have a gender neutral set of pronouns we can use to refer to either a group or individual without indicating their capability to reproduce and/or the role they play in society. In this I am focussing mainly on these 3 pronouns, but neopronouns also have their own set of associations and characteristics.
Language, here, is all connotations - she/her is femininity, woman, submissive, mother, he/him is masculinity, man, dominant, provider, and they/them is neutral. However, this language falls apart when people like butch lesbians and femme boys, who may or may not identify as non-binary or transgender, use different pronouns than is expected of them, which we see most prominently during the 60s-90s. A butch may use he/him pronouns, work as a mechanic, have a cis femme wife or girlfriend, but still identify as a lesbian woman. Pronouns here do not indicate his capability to reproduce, as it is not relevant to his experience as a lesbian, but it may on some level indicate his role in society. He is masculine, works a service job, is acting as the butch to his wife's femme, and to many people may represent a form of masculinity most associated with men who use he/him pronouns.
When considering gender as something reinforced through action, we may observe how texts (used here to mean all forms of entertainment/knowledge that communicate meaning) have been used throughout all written history to create the idea of gender, to associate signs and signifiers to the experience of "woman" and "man" that create a gap between the two categories that is wider than a canyon. From infancy, different children are given different toys, wear different clothes, and have adults treat them differently - the way we currently treat our children has been shown in sociological studies to be extremely detrimental down the line, as it leads to dysphoria, bullying, and shame. The actions we take to reinforce the categories of gender - both within and without ourselves - creates an even bigger divide, especially within children's minds. That's why I do think raising children gender-neutrally and allowing them to choose their own identity as they grow would be a more ideal world - even moreso, the idea that children can change how they identify without backlash, allowing kids to play with and experience gender without negative repercussions.
The concept of language and action within a society does not apply to animals.
Every language has different pronouns, different words to use to describe and refer to people and objects, but the difference between people and animals is that we formed both shared languages, and the concept of gender - therefor, we also created gender euphoria/dysphoria. Humans have no way of accurately communicating with animals, no way of understanding if they have a shared form of language or communication, and therefor, no way of knowing how they would like to be referred to. But furthermore, animals don't care how we refer to them, because they both don't understand us, and have no concept of gendered expectations/shame. Your cat will not look at you any differently if you use he/him to they/them to fae/faeself pronouns. Even on the other side of the argument, to say "we should all refer to them with they/them or it/its pronouns exclusively" would not be correct, because if animals did have a constructed language and pronouns, they would not use the same pronouns we came up with.
Whatever pronouns you choose to use for your pet has a social connotations, not for them, but for you. Unfortunately, we still live in an emphatically gendered society, and people may treat you differently if you choose to use pronouns that "don't align with their sex," because unfortunately people are nosy and opinionated. The only context where pronouns for animals matter is in the context of veterinary care as a shorthand for what the animal's sex is. This is also ultimately imperfect, as sex is also a social construction, and each living creature, regardless of sex or gender, has a unique body and a unique experience of their sex and/or gender.
The english language in particular has failed to include a pronoun for an intersex individual pre-gender theory - even before we knew that gender =/= pronouns =/= sex, there is no clear 50/50 split line on what is a vagina and what is a penis, and for why you must use a particular set of pronouns to refer to a person with "either one". In animals as well, intersexuality is an observed and common phenomena, and there is no logical reason why we can still claim that there are 2 sexes, when there are over a dozen observed categories for genital development in relation to internal organs and sexual function. As someone with PCOS myself, there are many gender theorists talking about how PCOS aligns on the intersex spectrum, as there are hormone levels that affects internal, external, and secondary sex characteristic development in AFAB individuals.
We can't boil down sex or gender into neat categories, and if we can't even listen to and respect our differently sexed and gendered minorities, expecting people to use gender-neutral language towards animals as a social priority is distracting from the people who are actually affected by society's gendered language and actions. I promise an animal does not and cannot care if you misgender it, but a human person will. The only circumstance where pronouns that align with the animal's sex may be useful is in a veterinary context, but even that can be reductive. Ultimately, if it makes you more comfortable to use gender neutral language for animals, I think you should follow that through. What I don't agree with is comparing the plight of gender diverse human beings to animals that are incapable of caring of how we refer to them. It is not transphobic to refer to animals with any pronoun because they do not care, I promise.
Also, you should buy me a kofi for making me spend half an hour writing this.

Class 1-A with a reader who uses throwing knives and daggers (dunno what the difference between the two is) in combat, and NOT PART OF THEIR QUIRK. What's even more cooler is that she can perform lots of cool knife tricks with it like a pro, like more than just spinning between her fingers. She's basically like Mai from Avatar with the unlimited amount of knives she has somehow.

- you trained hard to help with hand to hand combat but you wanted a way to be more offensive.
- you were always drawn to knives, more specifically, throwing knives. they just seemed the most practical; they were smaller and could be used both for long distance fighting and hand to hand combat.
- your hero suit had a special belt/pocket that held your knives. your class would always be left bewildered when you were fighting as your knives seemed to regenerate and you never seemed to run out.
- hatsume also helped develop a bracelet type gadget that you could use to draw your knives back to you so you wouldn’t have to individually collect them.
- “how does she have that many knives?” midoriya mumbled as he wrote in his notebook. “her aim is always so accurate too.”
- you had spent years practicing with your throwing knives so you would rarely, if ever, miss your target. that terrified your classmates and they were always hesitant to spar with you.
- well, everyone but bakugou, he would yell at you not to hold back on him; todoroki often spared against you as well, using his ice to block the knives.
- whenever you were waiting to fight or after a fight, you would often flip your knives in your hands, pulling off impressive tricks.
- your classmates were always intrigued by it and always begged you to help teach them how to do knife tricks, most commonly mina and kaminari. it didn’t go very well and if they had used one of your real knives, you were certain they would’ve lost a finger or two.

Tis him, the man I dreamt about and I woke up terrified. Good times.
Nur Foley
A split-brain syndrome subject that escaped from a lab that wants him back so they've hired mercenaries to capture him.
Age: 25+ (he doesn't remember)
Gender || Pronouns: Male || He/Him (for Nur as a whole, left brain/right side) / They/them (for his right brain/left side)
Confusing I know. Remember that the left brain controls the right side of our body and the right brain controls the left. Nur's considered dominant side is his right, while his left is blind and mute.
Species: Cohntaka, a tasih-cohn hybrid. (Half human, half canine)
Ability: Misperception
(DISCLAIMER: the syndrome is used as a base for his behaviour and is not accurate to the irl syndrome. Please don't think anyone who has this syndrome irl act the same way as Nur bc this is fantasy! Nur has wildly different circumstances, like being experimented on and living in a fictional world.)
-----
Expanded info and more concept drawings of him
His name is the only thing he can remember. Who named him? How old is he? 20? 25? 30? He's definitely not a child or a teen, he can tell that much.
His brain is split; Nur's aware of this. It made two different aspects of Nur dominant in each side of his split brain. These sides of him are taught to be independent but still work together, to create a super soldier that is able to focus on two or more things at once, their abilities untouched. Because of the taught individualism, sometimes his left side doesn't seem to like cooperating with his right much, but they try to manage together anyway. At least both of the sides agree they needed to get out of that lab. They needed to live. They needed to survive.
Nur's right side still retains the ability to talk while his left side is mute. Despite it, both sides of him are very vocal. While his right side can speak for the both of them, his left side's gestures can be just as loud as the right's shouting.
He doesn't have a keen eyesight. His right eye is slightly nearsighted and his left eye's vision is very blurry; yet he can still react to stuff on that side. He just can't describe anything he sees out of it, not even his other side can. Must be the result of the experiments.
Nur doesn't have any memory from before he got caught and experimented by the lab. He's a bit short-tempered, a little foul-mouthed and likes to yell but will be quiet and patient when he wants to be. He's naive and curious, but also very logical. He likes to observe and analyze things before interacting with them, but can often be seen as very hesitant and cautious, because he is. Nur's left side is really caring and compassionate, especially towards him. They make sure he eats, sleeps, and stays alert while he's off looking at a butterfly or whatever. They comfort him, or at least try to, when he's scared out of his mind. Perhaps this side can be the same towards other people too, but both sides are distrustful of them because of their experiences in the lab. People have proven to be untrustworthy and horrible so he highly dislikes them. However, his left side is willing to give chances, while his right side remains a harsh skeptic.
Since both of Nur's sides cannot communicate (internally), you'll see him shouting at himself more than at anyone else. Due to the sometimes vast difference of opinion in both sides, they would argue with each other a lot. His left side may be mute and blind but they can recognize things by touch and can still hear. Speaking to himself is his way of communicating with his half because that makes sense for both sides to do in order for them to come to a conclusion and understand each other. Even if one is loud and abrasive and the other is backhanding the other, in both senses of the word. And sometimes, actions speaks louder than words.
He can make people hallucinate with his ability called misperception. He can see what they see too. He doesn't completely understand how he's doing it but he can make people go insane. Which makes it fun and hilarious for him. To subject them to the horrors he had witnessed. To beat them up while they're scared. To make them leave him alone so he can run far away from them.
He has two tails. What are they for? Balance maybe? Holding them close to his chest just because they bother him doesn't help him walk any better when he's already trying to. Tasih hands but taluka feet. He's a hybrid. A cohntaka, to be exact. He understands that much.
As a half cohn, he naturally has a stronger sense of smell and hearing than the normal tasih. He can also sense the emotions and intentions of people around him so it's easy for him to escape the mercs chasing him down. Emotions are a mess, he doesn't understand them well (much less his own) but he can definitely pick out which intentions are bad, good, and neutral. But sometimes he fights his own instincts as it affects his reasonings. Most of the time he believes his reasoning when it comes to decisions. Instinct just helps him avoid danger better.

Hello from Midnight!
Its been long enough, practically a year and a half since it was discovered this system existed, and we've debated coming out on Tumblr for quite some time. Months, really. And given the absolute silence of this account, I felt it was time to take it upon myself to truly take care of this.
I am Chance! A co-host of Midnight, but more on that later. For now I'll introduce you to our 'main' host (more of just who we all pretend to be to pass?), and my twin!
Meet Chai! (Co-host)
Art by @felix-fabulous
Chai, as you can tell, is very openly an Ink fictive! And a cat furry. He derives mostly from the former host of the system, Ink (yes we survived 3-4 years with an Ink as a host we discovered), and doesn't have anything against that! Formed directly off our former host, he took the role quite easily. So easily infact he didn't know he was a different person at all for a good near half year of his existence! He fronts the most besides Chance (Moi). He also acts as the main front personality. Even around some people we trust, we act as him with not much deviation most cases unless we feel like individualising ourselves for a conversation. He's sporadic, excitable, and quite awkward socially, but with good intentions. He struggles to quite grasp his own and others emotions in situations and occasionally that can cause communication barriers, and makes him come off rude or blunt. Chai also tends to worry about others and tries to help with anything he can.
He can change his form as he pleases and is often seen wandering around the headspace as a black Maine Coon- or a Moon as we call them.
Acts as Co-Host, protector, caretaker, and a few more things.
Birthday (form date!): December 3rd, 2020
Chai is gay, demisexual, pronouns are he/him
Meet Chance! (Co-host)
Art by @felix-fabulous and me! Don't mind the 'mistake' with the heart chain, I change it up depending on my mood when I draw myself. My drawing is also a slightly different outfit anyhow! The suit is sparkly!
The charming, dazzling, and incredibly attractive other co-host of this system! Also a fictive. While he may not be a front personality, he sure is a fun act to put on to amuse others in conversations. When he fronts around trusted people he typically speaks with an accent, though it fluctuates which one it is because he dislikes the accents that naturally came to him in this body. Its why it cannot be named or pinpointed, its never a specific one. To throw a guess out there, generally stays in the realm of English accents, though which one it is varies (Please understand I am not trying to be offensive in using it, it happens on its own). Occasionally he throws it out the window entirely. Who needs a false accent anyways? Often called the Theatre kid, or more accurately, 'Theatre Kid #2'. While he does enjoy performing and making everything a fun show, he'd much rather sit and have genuine interactions nowadays.
Can change his form as much as he pleases, and uses it to express himself. Unsure why both hosts are capable of this.
Acts as Co-Host, protector, and a few others
Birthday: December 3rd, 2020
Chance is biromantic, asexual, and any pronouns will do!
What about the others?
Perhaps soon once we have more drawings of the others we will do full introductions, but for now here is a short summary of some fairly important individuals!
Ink - Fictive (obviously). Former host, estimated from around somewhere in 2017 til Chai and Chance's arrival. Similar to Chai in many ways but much more socially awkward and immature. Bisexual, he/they. Birthday unknown :(
Error - Fictive (again, obviously). Been around probably since a few months after Ink, but definitely nearly just as long. Those two are inseparable. He's short tempered (and just short) but all around a fun guy, but doesn't talk to people often, nor does he really like people at all. Bisexual, he/him. Birthday unknown
Dream - Fictive (I should not keep specifying). Sweet, polite, kind, and caring are the first words to come to mind. He's energetic and has a positive (hah get it) outlook, really just...a ray of sunshine in our system, helps out and makes things easier. Acts as the 'librarian', or memory keeper. He uses that to help us get through things or recall what happens between switches if we have especially bad memory blanks. Panromantic, asexual, He/Him. Birthday May 29th, 2021
Cupid - A SPECIAL case! Cupid actually resides in Chance's subsystem, 'Pink Palette System'. Like a much more energetic and fabulous version of Chance, and far more flirty. Bisexual, Any pronouns but he prefers He/They. Birthday unknown.
We are open to questions and are very excited about finally coming out like this!
Thank you for reading! Have a nice day <3

Piles Of Nonsense Bingo: Storaged Fire
Hi there! This is my first individual contribution to the @pilesofnonsense 2021 Halloween Bingo. My idea? To fill the marked column (bellow) adding an extra one in each entry.
As I am only useful as a writter, here it is my first fic:
"Boxes" filled: Artefact Storage and The Desolation.
Characters: Jonathan Sims, Martin Blackwood, Original Non-Human Avatar
Pairings: Jonmartin, background Tim/Sasha and Lonelyeyes
Additional tags: Season 4 AU, Archivist!Sasha, Web!Jon, Web!Martin, stablished (new) relationship, original statement (from Gertrude Era), Gerry gets mentioned bcs I love him so much, other characters also get small mentions, fluff, slight angst and intrusive thoughts, monster animals, she/they pronouns for Nikola, no beta we kayak like Tim
CW: Arson, identity crisis, mistrust issues, mentions of death
Ranking: Teen and up (it is not heavy but maybe a bit harsh for younger audiences)
Word count: 1941
Summary: Jon and Martin are hanging in the Artefact Storage when a dog appears...and this time is not Martin's doing
AO3 link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/34845676
Jon couldn’t hate spiders anymore. It would be rather…contradictory. Fire, though; fire was his new greatest foe.
He would never forget the day he died. The day he and Martin died.
It has taken all they had in them to force Tim to stay instead of going with them to destroy The Circus, all the compelling capacities both him and his…boyfriend (it is still felt weird, in a good way; but bizarre nonetheless) had started showing or, more accurately, finally accepting, even if doing so with reluctance.
If things went south (as they did), Sasha would need some anchor. And that ought to be him.
The Circus…it was maddening, there were no words in any dictionary to describe it otherwise. They knew the explosion was likely to kill them but…they had to do it. Especially after they had realised that Sasha was losing it completely and they lost complete track of both Daisy and Basira (the first one not even making it out of the place).
They had hold hands for a second before detonating the thing, for all of them, but also for Tim’s brother and the many other victims of Nikola and their troupe.
“I also liked you” he had said, seconds before giving use to the lighter Sasha had received as a present.
“What?”
“Before we begun to get close, when Sasha started getting, er…paranoid. Before all that, I already liked you, I just…”
“…was an ass about it” once he had confidence with someone, Martin was way bolder. Especially with him, the crush turned into real love for the whole flawed individual. “Yeah, I started realising it now…you were terrible to me, though. Good thing I have fallen for you.”
As every single time Jon had to put out any short of feelings, it cost him greatly to find the words.
“I have too.”
The explosion was brutal, the pain so great he could still feel it in his sleep.
It should have killed them. Ripped them from the inside out due to explosion itself as their exterior melted from the heat and fire.
And so it did, but The Mother had other plans…
…Jon didn’t envy the poor forensic examiner that was about to open them when they started vomiting spiders and clumsily woke up, their worst burns covered by permanent cobwebs.
And, now, nobody completely trusted them.
Not that neither of them could truly blame the others for it.
It got tiring, though. They needed some time when other people’s stares weren’t suspicious (or, also pretty annoying, full of pity when they saw the forever burnt tissue).
So they started hiding in the Artefact Storage Room from time to time. Also, quality calm time alone with each other was a treat they might have wanted even if things hadn’t gone the way they had.
Here they were, playing some allegedly cursed game that was supposed to trap its players on the game’s orders in real life (although it obviously had no effect of them, apart from a slight headache probably provoked by their annoyed Patron). If felt kind of…good.
“HA!” Jon screamed. “Won! Again.”
Martin sighed.
“Remember when you pretended to be this very serious, professional academic? I guess he wouldn’t have been this competitive.”
“Nah, but he would certainly have pointed out MANY TIMES how bad you are at it. I only did it this one time.”
The taller man rolled his eyes.
“The bar is that low, uh?”
“If you ask the rest…” he tried to sound even humorous, but came as bitter as he tried not to feel.
“Hey, they will get used to it.”
“Sure thing. Look, not being liked, that is usual, nothing new in the horizon. Neither is being looked at as some kind of…nature mistake but, for some reason, this time is hitting me harder” maybe because if it wasn’t for the fact that I had to make peace with the man I love being the same as I have become, I’d hate myself even more than they hate me.
Instead of trying to answer him, Martin hugged him, and he just let the smell of tea relaxed him…
…until a cheerful bark interrupted them.
“This time it wasn’t me I swear!” Martin said, as they turned to see a white extremely hairy dog with a friendly expression (for a dog) staring at them while shaking its long tail rhythmically.
At first, it could have passed as a regular dog, but, the more Jon looked at it, the more something felt off…and then, he noticed the paw marks.
The floor the dog had stepped on was burned.
“Martin, don’t touch it.”
“Oi! As a proud cat-dad I thought you would be more sensitive than to call an intelligent animal an it.”
“First, cats are far more evolved than dogs and second…look at the floor.”
“Shit.”
“Shit precisely” the dog’s face was now less amicable, as if it had realised it had been caught.
Jon pointed at the animal’s neck, where a paper covered in what he guesses was fireproof plastic laid.
Counting with far longer arms than his boyfriend, Martin reached at took it before the dog could even move. He was far quicker since…since the change.
It was a statement, a quite short one, but still an statement. Signed as having been register by Gertrude.
“May I…?” maybe The Web had claimed him, but his need to KNOW had gone nowhere.
“If you insist…” they shared a nervous smile; the dog-like-creature still staring, as if thinking what it should do with them.
He wondered for a second why he didn’t approach them more, but he didn’t like the implications of any of his theories, so he decided to pretend he didn’t have them and let it be.
He started reading the paper out-loud, his voice echoing in every corner of Artefact Storage.
Statement of Michael Smith, regarding the destruction of his house after the irregular adoption of a stray dog in April 2014.
Statement begin.
My family has always been big on adopting animals. Just as a kid, I remember it was basically the only topic my parents could speak about without my kitchen becoming a battle camp.
That is why; when my oldest son came home with an apparently adorable fluffy dog I didn’t question his decision for a second. He named him Zuko after a character in a show he was obsessed with at the time because he said “he burned a squirrel when I found him!”
I thought he was exaggerating, or straight-up lying, he was eleven and had decided that, if you believe something enough, you can make other people believe it too…
…I wish I could do that with what happened next.
The…ok; I am going to call it Thing because it doesn’t deserve any better.
Well, the Thing never came into the house and, curiously enough, only walked on watery parts of the garden. It was odd enough, but I had had other abandoned animals before, and you just cannot phantom the kind of trauma those poor creatures get exposed to and the long-term consequences it has.
It only let my son, whose name I’d rather left out of this statement, touch it and, when he did, he always had marks of what seemed to be burns later on.
However, stupidly enough, I attributed said marks to his own clumsiness and his eternal hyperfixation with house-made chemical experiments.
Reading it now, in front of me, I can’t help but feeling stupid…
…especially, because there was a pretty clear sign I didn’t catch upon: every single time we left the house, the Thing would tentatively approach our home, sniffing doors and windows, as in the search of something…
That something, if you haven’t guessed it yet, was a way in.
And, eventually, It found it.
I don’t know exactly what it wanted from our house; I am just a DHL deliver man, and my wife is a journalist stuck with weird rather unbelievable short stories due to her sort of pretty sexist bosses. But, whatever it had been, it was successfully destroyed.
The Thing burned our home to the ground, everything on it perpetually lost.
Everything we owned was in there; we had just gone for a walk around the neighbourhood with the dogs that actually wanted to do dog things.
At least, the not-dog is gone for good. According to our neighbours, just as the fire started calming, a couple of wardrobe-sized men went in and took the Thing, putting it inside their van and driving away without a word.
The insurance has found a way to blame it on us and, therefore, now we have to life with my wife’s father. Three kids, four dogs and two adults in their not-that-big house.
It is terrible but, worst part? When I looked at my oldest son’s eyes while he gazed at our destroyed home; he seemed…fine with it.
I have been finding small piles of ashes since then.
And now there is no monster-dog to be blamed; at least, not directly.
Statement ends, I suppose.
Archivist’s notes: everything Mr. Smith tells in his statement matches with the official statement. Regarding the reason the dog was sent to this family; it might be interesting to consider it related to a small article his wife wrote that mentioned Jude Perry in not very nice terms…she is rather revengeful.
The other option is, of course, that the eldest son of the Smiths is actually attracted by The Desolation himself; the thing that seemed to be a dog somehow making its way to him. If this is the case, I might pay a visit to the Smiths quite soon…
The… not-dog itself is now among our artefacts, since it apparently doesn’t really need any nutrients to just survive. It was given to us by Breekon and Hope, as a peace offering after some…private business I had with Miss Orsinov. It is to be well kept inside its cell, for there is no stopping It if It gets lose.
At least, with the research my acquaintance Mister Keay had done it apparently is not. And he is quite trustworthy and completely professional.
Signed,
Gertrude Robinson.
“No way to stop…”
“Well, we’ve both met Gerry and there is a reason that ghost and you have such a good relationship: both of you think too much and are oblivious to the obvious solution.”
Without thinking it twice, Martin took his tea mug and threw it over the dog and It….It started consuming itself.
“Makes no sense” Jon complained.
“Agree; learnt a long time ago not to make sense of Fear incarnations.”
They stayed in silence, as the not-dog made a quite good rendition of the Wicked Witch of the West, just a few white hairs left after It was gone.
“Who do you think let It loose?”
“Who can know about us and seems to be here just to have fun at our expense?”
“And speak weirdabout Elias. Do you think those two…?” Jon scoffed.
“Even Icaught that the first time, Martin. It can also have been an honest to God accident, though. This place needs a serious intervention…”
They both sighed and let themselves fell into the floor, staring at each other.
“You know? Your Gertrude impersonation is quite good. In another world, you might be The Archivist.” Jon smirked.
“Then, the World is saved there for certain, for you will always be my perfect anchor.”
No more talking was needed, as they kissed and let the intensity of the last minutes (more the last weeks, months…) made them succumb into a soft, comfortable slumber.

Being Bigender- what it’s like.
I know there are already posts about being bigender and what it means, but I wanted to make my own so I could share some of my knowledge and experiences on being bigen.
Bigender: The Definition
Bigender is a gender identity described as being two genders- either simultaneously [both genders at the same time], fluidly [switching between the two] or partially [sort of like being a percentage/amount of each]. It falls under the nonbinary umbrella and is one of the many multigender identities out there.
Q- Do the two genders have to be "Girl and Boy"?
Absolutely not. This is probably the most common bigender-related misconception out there. A bigender preson could be a combination of a binary gender and nonbinary gender [example: girl and agender] or two nonbinary genders [example: androgyne and neutrois]. Bigender is not defined as only being man and woman.
Difference between Bigender and Genderfluid
Bigender and genderfluid overlap in definitions/experiences and can be used simultaneously as labels if you wish- but the main difference is that bigender is just defined as being any two genders, and it’s not a requirement to be fluid between them. Meanwhile, Genderfluid is shifting between multiple genders, and don't have to be limited to two.
Q- If you’re bigender, are you trans? Or half-trans or something?
Y’know, that’s just up to the bigender/nonbinary individual to decide. I don’t consider myself trans, and for a while I didn’t even consider myself nonbinary. I’m not cis, and I relate a lot to transgender experiences- so sure, I could technically consider myself trans. But it’s not something that appeals to me as a label, so I don’t really use it. You can just be you, and you don’t have to be a part of the trans community or even in the nonbinary community if you don’t want to.
You can also have surgery/ name change/ go on hormones if you’re bigender, it’s alllll up to you.
Presentation
There is no “right” way to present when you’re bigender. You do not have to look/dress like what is expected of both of your genders, or switch between clothing or whatever. Clothing doesn’t dictate your identity in any way. It’s just fabric. Wear it however you want!
Q- Do you have to be 50% / half of both genders to be bigender?
Nope. If the genders are not felt simultaneously or fluidly and are instead felt partially each, then the metaphorical “percentage” can be anything. A bigender person may feel 60% one gender and 40% the other, or someone else may be more 70% and 30%, or even 1% and 99%, etc.
If the amount of gender experienced can be at any percent, what’s to stop me from calling myself demigender instead of bigender?
[Demigender: feeling partially, but not fully a gender. Common labels are demigirl, demiboy, etc.]
The truth is, similar to how [bi]sexual/romantic, [poly]sexual/romatic and [pan]sexual/romantic are similar, these labels overlap and it’s really up to the person to choose which label they prefer.
ALSO. Demigenders don’t necessarily only experience two genders.
Q- Do you have to have separate sets of pronouns for each gender, or multiple names?
Nope. This isn’t a requirement. You can be bigender and have as many or as little names/sets of pronouns as you wish, and they don’t have to “match” your genders either. A boy/girl bigender could use only one name and use they/them, or an agender/boy bigender could be using two names and she/her + he/him, or neopronouns, or etc. The combinations are endless, so it’s up to the individual to figure out what they want.
And again, names do not have to “correspond” with your genders- by which i mean you don’t have to have a “boy” name or a “girl” name or a neutral name unless that’s what you want.
They/Them
They/them (at least in the English language) are considered THE neutral pronouns and the go-to for anyone. And they usually are, there’s nothing wrong with that- they’re good to use on strangers, people you don’t know the pronouns of, or people who just prefer those pronouns! However, I’d also like to point out that they are not applicable to those who you know don’t use them/ don’t have them listed as their set of pronouns. It’s not a good alternative to someone’s neopronouns, or multiple/fluxuating pronouns, or just to use on anyone who doesn’t want them used. Just don’t.
This applies to every gender identity, not just bigender.
Q- If I’m bigender, how does that affect my other orientations? Should I consider myself bi, gay, etc?
Unfortunately, currently popular lgbt+ terms [especially in relation to sexuality or romantic orientation] are not really suited for nonbinary people, so there isn’t really a good answer to this- you’ll just have to figure out what sounds best to you. Feel free to use pre-existing terminology, even if it isn’t 100% “accurate”, or just make your own!
What it’s like being bigender
Well for starters, no two bigender people are the same, nor have the same experiences. I am probably the most stereotypical example of a bigender person- I’m a boy/girl, I use he/him and she/her pronouns, and I even have a “masculine” name and a “feminine” name. As much as I’d like to share alternative bigender stories, I can only tell you mine, so keep in mind that this isn’t the universal truth for all of us.
For me, I’m simultaneously both of my genders- I’m not partially one or the other, nor am I fluid between the two. At all times, I feel 100% girl and 100% boy. “Isn’t that the same as androgyne?” Well, no. In the form of a visual, pretend there are two tinted lenses [say, yellow and blue] and stacking them on top of each other makes green, while still being separate physically. Androgyne would be more like just having a green tinted lens, without needing to stack anything.
Anyway, how’s it like? My insight to being bigender in the real world is well, uneventful, as I don’t pass, am extremely closeted and don’t intend to come out anytime soon. Most of my experiences happen internally. I sometimes get annoyed that people use only one set of pronouns for me, because although I don’t mind he or she, I would still prefer for both to be used at about the same amount. I feel comfortable around most gendered terms, although I lean towards masculine [ex: king, brother, etc]. I get uncomfortable when people consider me/refer to me as one gender [ex: calling me just a boy/girl, repeatedly]. I do have dysphoria, both social and physical. I plan on getting surgery someday. I discovered I was bigender sophmore year of highschool. That’s roughly my experience.
Q- How can I write a bigender character?
Read everything above, so at least you have some basic knowledge about the identity. If you have additional questions, my ask box/pms are always open. I’ll be glad to help anyone out with anything bigender related really.
Some other multigenders that are similar/relate to Bigender [for those who may want to look into them]
Trigender- Like bigender, but experiencing three genders instead of two
Polygender- experiencing multiple genders but not all.
Pangender- experiencing all genders [this however, does not include genders that aren’t within your experiences/ you’re able to claim, such as genders that belong to indigenous groups/ other cultures]
Demigender- feeling partially but not totally a gender.
Genderfluid- being fluid between genders [can be any genders, any amount of them and for any amount of time]
If you feel like I need to change anything about this post, then I’m open to suggestions/criticism!

whats the point of yamato
comments on youtube
Here's my take: the Wano Arc is about the "burden of inherited will." By this I mean something like, the burden of upholding the promises and dreams of those who came before. We've seen inherited will as an unambiguously good thing in the series so far, but the Wano Arc is trying to complicate the narrative, by showing what a burden it can be to take on the dreams of those who came before. And this theme isn't just in one storyline, it's laced throughout the Wano Arc, in the motivations of so many characters: * We have Momo struggling with the burden of living up to his father's legacy as a leader, and the burden of the throne of Wano. He's anguished over this, he weeps, because it's a burden to live up to someone as great as his father. * In Oden's flashback, we seem him struggle with the burden of his own father's dreams (that he become the Shogun, settle down, etc), only for him to eventually return and take on the burden of the country (literally, he puts his followers on his back!). * We have the Scabbards struggling with the burden of achieving Oden's dream of opening Wano's borders. They spend twenty years waiting and suffering, or travel across the sea and suffer, all for the sake of their leader's dream. We see Ashura-doji grow bitter under this burden, we see Denjiro mentally break, we see Kine'mon refuse to have a joyful reunion with his wife, all because they suffer under the burden of an inherited dream. * Orochi felt compelled to uphold the will of his ancestors and depose the Kozukis and throw the country into ruin. There's a reason we see his ancestors basically manipulate him into pursuing his path. They pass on their dream to him. * So obviously we have Luffy also taking on the dream of Oden, to defeat Kaido and Orochi, etc. But it's not a coincidence that in this arc we have two characters to whom Ace made promises: Tama and Yamato. They've become part of Luffy's burden, because he inherited Ace's will. (That's one way Yamato fits in) * But we also have Yamato struggling under the burden of a will she does not want to inherit, her father's. He wants her to be imprisoned, literally chained to a will that is not her own. That's quite the burden, I'd say. But there's another will she would prefer to inherit, obviously: Oden's. I think in the conclusion of this arc, we'll see characters (Luffy, probably) say something about inherited will being something chosen, it has to be a burden you choose to bear, not one forced on you. Yamato will probably feature in this conclusion in a few ways: (1) as a character foil to Momonosuke. It's not a coincidence that they're the exact same age and each want to take on the will that was forced on the other. Momo was swept across the world and travelled with Luffy in order to fulfill his role as Oden's son, but he wants to be Shogun. He takes on Kaido's appearance (via his Devil Fruit). Yamato was chained to Onigashima, and wanted nothing more to escape and travel the world with Luffy, but Kaido wants her to become the Shogun. She takes on Oden's appearance. The arc will conclude with something about Yamato and Momo freely entrusting each other with the dreams of their fathers, or something. (2) as a feature in Luffy choosing to uphold Ace's will. By taking her with him and reaffirming a promise with Tama, we'll see Luffy choose to take on Ace's will. In this way, we'll see that what makes a will truly inherited isn't a bond of blood or destiny, it's a bond of friendship, trust, et cetera. Yamato's storyline will be used to punctuate that theme for Luffy and Momo, the actual central characters of this arc.
I feel like Yamato’s storyline is learning about inherited will and not having to actually be someone (Oden) to carry on their will/dreams.
Hannya, which Yamato’s mask is based on, are well known in Japanese theatrical stage culture for representing characters who are the physical manifestation of twisted female souls.
Yamato seems to be inspired by Oscar François de Jarjayes, from the shōjo manga The Rose of Versailles, who is a woman raised by her father as if she were a boy in order to succeed him as the commander of the Royal Guard at the Palace of Versailles.
an authors comment for chapter 945 oda talked about how he read rose of versailles and was surprised oscar was a woman
The Shogun must be a male of Seiwa Genji lineage according to Japanese history so this explains why she is referred to as son. Oda based Yamato on 2 people. 1) Yamato Takeru a crossdressing Japanese prince and 2) Oscar from Rose of Versailles. Yamato Takeru being the son of Emperor Keiko who crossdressed to kill his enemies. Oscar being a girl raised as a boy to succeed the throne. Oda is mixing Japanese folklore with Rose of Versailles to tell a story of Kaido trying to force his daughter to be the Shogun/a boy. Do you think I rip this from nowhere? Chapter 945 if I recall correctly on VIZ Oda is on the authors comments speaking on Rose of Versailles. Yamato wears a Hannya mask which originates from Noh theater and represents female obsession (Oden obsession) and I bet this arc has a theme of deliverance. Not just deliverance from physical chains but familial bonds as well. The people who refer to her as “he” miss the underlying themes the Shogun must be male and Kaido is probably upset he has no actual son. Yamato does not want to be the Shogun and referring to the last chapter Kaido is trying to tell her what her fate is. The Vivre Cards will not say (Male Heart) like in close reference to Kiku’s card and she will not come out and say “I am a man at heart!” She uses the pronoun boku which is ambiguous and abnormal which is in reference to the “Oden” funny delusional act she has going on. Coming chapters will reveal this more and more. Since the combination of the title card saying daughter -> the Hannya mask -> explosive cuffs and the Shogun theme it was clear she was being bruteforced into something.
Not trying to speak for everyone here, but to say people use "he" because they don't pick up on themes is simply not the case. People use "he/him" pronouns because so far in the story, that is how Yamato has made clear that he would like to be referred to and so people use he/him pronouns out of respect for those desires. I'm not trying to say at all that I disagree with the themes/connections you've mentioned, but to say that you've "cracked the code" and you know better than Yamato on how they should be gendered is disrespectful to them. It may well be the case that everything you said is true and that by the end of the arc Yamato will wish to be referred to with she/her pronouns, but like I said to just assume this before it actually happens is disrespectful. Imagine refusing to use he/him pronouns for a trans-man because you know that their father always wanted a son and assuming their desire to use these pronouns only exists to validate their fathers wishes. I'm not trying to draw a one to one equivalence with this example, I get that One Piece is a story where information does just exist but is introduced with a specific purpose, I just hope I can better explain why many people believe he/him are the correct pronouns to use for Yamato at this time. Frankly, I think the presence of Kiku as a trans-women in this arc might be odas way of setting up the exact scenario you mentioned with yamato while still making sure he doesn't come across as invalidating trans identities. Hopefully that makes sense. Again I'm not trying to be argumentative, only trying explain why many people believe it is more respectful to use he/him pronouns at this time for yamato DESPITE the themes you've mentioned.
Quick fact check: Oscar wasn't raised as a boy to succeed the throne, she was a raised as a boy to become commander of the royal guards
This might not be accurate as I'm just saying off the top of my head but in a way, Yamato might represent wano itself. She was chained up and abused by Kaido like he does to wano in a sense.
Yamato is literally old name of Japan, lol
Yamato by taking Oden legacy she is impersonating the man who's the main representation of wano to the world
On a larger scale we are fighting to save wano from kaido
On a individual scale Yamato who disguises as Oden who represents wano is fighting to save herself from kaido
It's like NAMI all over again
A girl who is representing an entire population and territory is fighting to save herself and the people and territory she represents from a fish that keeps her and her territory enslaved
Her not being part of the mainland is symbolic to Wano exactly lol, isolated from the other world and chained there by Kaido for decades. She, like the people of Wano, has this black and white perception of Oden that they blindly follow without looking into why he did what he did. Even now people are putting Momo on some pedestal worth dying for without understanding who he is, similar to their past expectations of Oden for his dad. Yamato is doing the same with her declaration of dying for him based solely on his dad and the stuff in the journal.
Yamato's development seems to fall in parallel to Momo. Momo had to deal with the expectations of being Oden's son and his people want him to be just like Oden they don't see Momonosuke Kozuki.
On the other hand Yamato similarly was thrust with a path set by Kaido her father but wants to be Oden this person who inspired Yamato to the point of worship that every action is posed with the question "what would Oden do."
The climax of both their arcs might be to just choose to be who they are and act as they would do not as their predecessors as they both could never be Oden for instance.
I sort of dislike how some people act like Yamato realizing not to “be oden” and Yamato joining the strawhats are mutually exclusive
if yamato does join the strawhats and is the 11th that would confirm the idea that yamato isnt trans she just cosplays as oden due to idolizing him if you believe the MFMM theory due to people noticing that in east blue the recruitment went zoro, nami, usopp, and sanji in grand line it was chopper, robin, franky and brook a male female male male .
jinbe is the 10th who joined in new world ( the male ) and it fits for him to be followed by the 11th a woman . ( so if yamato joins the strawhats and is the 11th ( meaning carrot doesnt join) yamato isnt trans
if yamato and carrot both join then yamato really is a transman
both okiku and yamato wore hannya masks
after okiku put on a hannya mask she revealed that she was a man in body but a woman in heart and a hannya mask represents female demon
yamato was introduced as kaidos son while in a hannya mask but after she took it off revealed she was his daughter
"Yamato" (大和やまと?), meaning "Great Harmony", is an ancient name for Japan (originating from the Yamato Province) and can can also refer to the Yamato period of Japanese history, which lasted into the 8th century. Relating to that, Yamato is the dynastic name of the ruling Imperial House of Japan and further refers to the dominant ethnic group of Japan, the Yamato people. Otherwise:
Yamato Takeru is a legendary Japanese prince of the Yamato dynasty, prominent in mythology.
Yamato is the name of a prominent WWII-era Japanese battleship.
Yamato nadeshiko is a phrase that refers to the idealized image of a Japanese female.

Killing Eve: Episode Analysis
*SPOILERS*
Season 3, Episode 5 - Are You from Pinner? [Part 1]
This episode, like S3E4, follows a comletely different format to all the other episodes, as it focuses solely on Villanelle’s time with her family in Grizmet and doesn’t include any other storylines from any of the other characters in the series.
We begin with Villanelle’s arrival at Grizmet, where we get a scene of a huge logging truck beeping it’s horn at a completely oblivious Villanelle, as she’s walking along listening to music. This lack of awareness in her surroundings is highly unusual for Villanelle, who’s success in her profession hinges on her being constantly alert and highly astute. Previously the only other instance where we have seen Villanelle not being on top form; is in S2E4, when she takes drugs and almost kills a girl for no reason, after she thought Eve had lost interest in her. Making the point of showing us how she’s not as alert as usual, displays how Villanelle is distracted and not able to focus at the thought (and pressure) of being reunited with her family.
Villanelle also has her hair out, illustrating how she’s willing to open, and immerse herself, into her family that she’s going to be reunited with.
On arriving at the family home, Villanelle enters the house and examines the kitchen. She looks at all the little mundane objects like the sugar bowl, the food cooking on the stove and some knitting supplies. As Villanelle’s looking at these things, we can see that she’s considering what her life could have looked like, and how different it would have looked, if she hadn’t been left at the orphanage.
After Villanelle has met most of the members of her family (she’s yet to meet her mother, Tatiana), we see her sitting in Bor’ka’s bedroom as she talks to him about the best foods to eat in the various countries that Elton John has visited. When asked about Vienna, Villanelle tells Bor’ka that there is “great ice cream in Vienna”, which is a nice little reference to the very first scene of the whole series, when we first meet Villanelle eating ice cream in Vienna after a kill.
During her conversation with Bor’ka, Villanelle puts on some red heart glasses with pink-ish coloured lenses in them, an accessory that Elton John is famous for wearing. We get a shot of her looking at her family with the glasses on, as well as a shot of her view of her family through the pink lenses of the glasses. In the first shot of Villanelle as she looks at her family with the glasses on; through the imagery of this shot we are shown how Villanelle is watching her family with literal ‘heart eyes’ - just like the apron she wears at the end of the episode, she is putting her whole heart out and offering it to her family to try and find the place of belonging she has been looking for.
Similarly in the shot of Villanelle’s point of view through the tinted lenses, we are shown how Villanelle is watching her family through literal ‘rose-coloured glasses’, the definition of this idiom is “a happy or positive attitude that fails to notice negative things”). In this way, through the chosen imagery in both of these shots, we are being shown how Villanelle is letting herself be carried away by her heart, now she thinks she’s found her family and finally found a place where she feels that she belongs - she is looking at her family unrealistically and putting an impossible optimism them for what she hopes to gain from her visit home.
As soon as Villanelle finds out that her mother, Tatiana, has arrived home, we see one of the only times Villanelle has been in pure terror and distress. Villanelle fully panics when she finds out Tatiana is back and she frantically runs around the living room, trying to find a way out. The only other time we have seen Villanelle display this level of anxiety was in S1E2 when she being held prisoner by Julian and was incredibly weak after being stabbed by Eve.
As Villanelle is running around trying to escape, ‘Bumble Bee’ by LaVern Baker is played over the scene. The lyrics that can be heard are:
“I'm gonna have to put you down,
You been treating me like a clown,
You know you've hurt me once before,
You'll never hurt me anymore,
Shoo-ee, you hurt me like a bee,
A bumble bee, a evil bumble bee”
Although we haven’t been told yet what happened between Villanelle and her mother, the lyrics of the song accurately reflect what is soon revealed to us. The lyrics of the song, together with the information that we are later given - that Tatiana was a terrible mother to Villanelle, who she thought had “a darkness” - is the reason for the frantic panic that Villanelle reacts with, when she realises that she has to confront her mother again after all this time. When Bor’ka says that “mum” is home, Villanelle suddenly remembers how her mother “hurt [her] once before”, and most likely how she doesn’t want her to “hurt [her] anymore”.
When Tatiana enters the house she drops her shopping bags, she walks over to Villanelle to hug her and then starts crying, calling Villanelle “my Oksana”. It’s left fairly ambiguously as to whether this emotional reaction from Tatiana was genuine. However, the three separate close-up shots that follow the hug, suggest that Tatiana was not being genuine.
We are shown two shots of Knick-Knacks on bookcases and one shot of some family pictures on the wall. Interestingly, within these three shots, there are a total of four framed photos of Tatiana on her own, with no-one else in the pictures with her. The choice to show shots of the Knick-Knacks suggest that Tatiana is not being sincere, as we are being shown how she attempts to hide her “darkness” by putting on this facade of being a good wife and mother, which we (and Villanelle) later see starts to slip.
The individual photos of Tatiana also suggest that she is not reacting genuinely to seeing Villanelle, as we can see that she’s clearly a narcissist and so makes as effort to put out a particular image of herself - in this case she’s putting on a show for the other members of her family, so that she can maintain the image that she’s spent so long building up: the loving mother who was forced to give up her child and is finally being reunited with her, after thinking she was dead for all thee years.
It’s further shown how Tatiana tried to bury her old life and start a fresh one (she started again by getting a new husband, a new house and new children), when Pyotr brings the photo album with the childhood pictures of Villanelle. He brings out the album and says that he found it “in back of loft”. Tatiana has plenty of family photos in the house, and a great number of them are of herself; so to not have any pictures up of Villanelle, and the fact that the album was found pushed away in the back of the loft, shows how she tried to hide away any remnants of Villanelle after she left her at the orphanage.
Even more notable is that there is no pictures of Tatiana’s husband, Villanelle’s father, anywhere. As Villanelle is looking through the photo album she says “where is Dad? There has to be one of him before he died”. Again it’s been heavily emphasised that there’s a lot of photos in the house, and there’s even quite a few pictures of Villanelle even though they were hidden away. So for there so be absolutely no pictures at all of the father, it’s insinuated that Tatiana and the father’s relationship wasn’t good before he died, or it wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility to assume she’s lying and the father left her - or perhaps even, given that Tatiana has a darkness akin to Villanelle’s own darkness, that she killed her husband.
Following Tatiana’s arrival back home and her reunion with Villanelle, she says to Villanelle, “I used to like dressing up and you always wanted my clothes, so I would make costume from old curtains for you”. By Tatiana saying this, it is implying that this is where Villanelle began her love of clothes and dressing up in different disguises.
The next scene we get, is of the whole family playing a card came, called Mafia/Werewolf, together. Fyodor accuses Villanelle of being Bor’ka’s ‘killer’ in the game, but he gets it wrong and Tatiana reveals that she was in fact the ‘killer’. Villanelle is the literal ‘killer’, however in the game it’s Tatiana, which signifies how Tatiana actually has more darkness than Villanelle, but she tries to conceal it.
The card Tatiana holds up is also the Queen of clubs, which further emphasises how she is the queen/matriarch of the household.
In this scene, we also get our first glimpse at Tatiana’s cruelty. Bor’ka says “mum you murdered me”, and Tatiana replied that “I had no choice Bor’ka” and he says that “you could have murdered the others”. He’s right, why would she choose to ‘murder’ Bor’ka when he’s the youngest one playing and is still only a child; she picks on him unnecessarily, just like how she picks on him at the Harvest Festival by telling him that he was “stupid and embarrassed her”.
We are also shown the complete control and power that Tatiana, being a narcissist and as the matriarch, has over the family - she only needs to say “eh” and tap on the table while Pyotr and Fyodor are arguing, to get them to stop.
Tatiana’s narcissism is additionally shown, when she makes her speech to the rest of the family. She says “I like to make speech. This night is very, very special for me. My girl, my little girl”. Tatiana’s repeated use of the personal pronouns “I” and “me”, demonstrate how her focus is all on herself, not on Villanelle or the rest of the family, but on how important and special this is for herself.
The scene continues to give us another instance of dancing, which Villanelle is uncomfortable with, just like in S3E1 with Maria. However unlike with Maria, where Villanelle just sort of stands and looks at Maria, while she’s trying to dance with her, Villanelle actually makes an attempt to partake in the dancing with her family.
She gets up with them and bobs up and down a bit, and we even see her start to sing the chorus of ‘Crocodile Rock’ by Elton John, with them before the scene cuts. Although she’s clearly uncomfortable, the fact that Villanelle makes a conscious effort to dance with her family, shows us how much effort and how desperately she wants to belong in the family. However, the fact that she’s still uncomfortable and it’s still not coming naturally foretells how although she is trying, this still isn’t the right fit for her or what she’s looking for.
Going onto the next scene, we see Pyotr taking his anger out on an old sofa and Villanelle comes to visit him. She’s wearing a mostly black outfit and has her hair up now, unlike the day before when she arrived; her appearance is reflecting how she’s closed herself off more now, and to show that she’s focused (like when she’s on a job). Villanelle is focused because she uses the day to speak to each of the members of the family, to find more information about what happened in the time while she wasn’t there and also to find out more information about her mother.
While Villanelle is speaking to Pyotr she says “you always wanted to be a firefighter, right?” and Pyotr says to her “you remember”. As Tatiana said earlier, that “the orphanage phone me and say you burn place down”, it’s most likely that Villanelle burned down the orphanage in the hope that her brother (who she knew wanted to be a firefighter) would come with the fire brigade to the orphanage to put out the fire; and in turn, come and find her there as well and rescue her.
The description that Villanelle’s gives to Pyotr of her father, that he was “funny, strong, taught me how to fight”; just like Tatiana and the clothes, we can see that Villanelle has taken these characteristics from her father: Villanelle tells Gabriel in S2E1 “yes, I am funny”, later on in this episode Yula’s friend says “she’s funny” and it’s clear that she’s strong and can fight.
Pyotr goes on to ask Villanelle “how they say we die”, and she replies only by saying “car crash” - another foreshadowing for the end of the episode. Villanelle’s family may not have died from an actual “car crash” when the orphanage told her they did, but they do end up dying at the end of the episode because her visit to her family was a metaphorical “car crash”.
In the next scene, when Pyotr and Villanelle are eating golubtsy, Pyotr says that “she’s [Tatiana] not a bad woman, people here say she is saint” and Villanelle says that “people here don’t know her”. This confirms what had up until this point just been alluded to, that Tatiana got a new husband, a new family and a new house (presumably in a different town) to try and hide her previous life and create a new image for herself.
