ok so basically it's the story of a few characters living in the new york city latino neighbourhood of washington heights. so we have:

usnavi: a bastard, orphan the owner of the store, who is trying to save money to pursue his dream of leaving nyc and moving to dominican republic where his parents come from

nina: a girlie who dropped out of college and now that she's back home she is afraid of telling her parents (and basically everyone) how big of a disappointment she is

vanessa: she works at the hair salon where she doesn't make much money, she's dreaming about moving downtown (usnavi is in love with her)

benny: he works for nina's dad and is also in love with nina

and there are more, but i don't want to spoil anything for you, if you're planning to watch it. also, it was supposed to be short haha.

Athos - Tom Burke The Musketeers 2014-2016

Tom Burke manages to portray the best and worst parts of Athos, with depth and emotion. He shows Athos wrangling with his grief and guilt, shows his loyalty to his fellow inseparables, shows his intelligence and his bravado. Burke captures these depths and heights, adds in a bit of humor, and a wealth of humanity. He fights, falls in loves, cares for his brothers, rages against Milady, drinks himself to stupidity, but rises to the occasion, and overcomes his demons. He's also gorgeous.

This one is for the lesbians. I don't know if she's the best version but she is inarguably serving. She rocks the joutfit. She can dance she can jive. She shows next to no interest in the obligatory tavern number because she hates love.

I received the codes from the EA Creator Network for the latest kits, Urban Homage and Party Essentials, and I finally got a chance to check them over. Short version: these kits really aren't for me. I don't dislike them, they either aren't my style or designed for an activity I just don't enjoy.

Urban Homage is nice that it was a Collab with Ebonix to give sims of colour some clothing that feels authentic for the style it's delivering, but for me, I just don't have many sims that would benefit from it for telling their story. The fit is nice and neutral (not too baggy or fitted), nice variety of colour, and a bit of personality too. I would have liked to see more then just clothing though. A new set of boots such as a combat or timberland-esque would have been nice, or a new hairstyle or two. I don't know if I am just conditioned to think that is what a CAS kit should include, or if the kit feels unfinished because it lacks those items. The jeans are definite favourites, even if i wish it had a better bootleg cut. The tee is also lovely with the graffiti prints. I would love to see more kits like this though. There are many regions, ethnicities and demographics thats aren't represented much in regular packs that kits could cater for so although it's just not really my style, I would love to see more.

Party Essentials did feel incomplete until I started looking at it like a decor kit, then it came together. Can't say I am a fan of the colour palette though. My favourite was the pastel rainbow, and I kind of wish it had more of that swatch style. The golds, bright pinks and blues just felt a little... overwhelming to me. Given time I could probably make them work. I am thankful the bar was designed as a standalone object though. The curse of regular bars is they often look unfinished if not integrated with island counters and they are already too large as it is. This item strikes that right balance. I still desperately want a drinks tray so i can avoid having to huge a 2x1 object just to have access to bar drinks. The lights definitely needed a medium wall height option at a minimum, same with the streamer items. The new record player is a nice addition too. I just can't see myself using this kit much because it's relatively niche category. I don't like the party mechanic of TS4 so I doubt i will use most of these items much, if at all apart from the table, bar and record player.

Dan Dotson

Dan Dotson (born November 23, 1962) is an American auctioneer who has been in the auctioneering business since 1974. Dan and his wife, Laura Dotson, run American Auctioneers, a full service auction company in Riverside, California. Dan is best known for being the auctioneer on A&E Network's Storage Wars. In 2018, he auctioned off a unit containing $7.5 million in cash in a safe. Dan is part of a motorcycle club, he is currently ranked as a "Secretary". His wife Laura is also in the club with him.

Ah… Dan Dotson. I like to call him my ‘bootleg non ginger Brendan Gleason.’ Oh, that’s a mouth full. Like I bet Dan is.

At the age of 11, Dotson was taught to auctioneer by his grandfather, with whom he worked as an auctioneer during the next four summers when he was not in school. Dotson started American Auctioneers in 1983. In the 1980s and 1990s, Dotson ran an auction house in Riverside that specialized in collectibles, pottery, porcelain dolls and furniture. In 1996 Dotson met Laura, who later became his wife, became Dan's business partner, and now is co-owner and manager of American Auctioneers.

The couple have a son together and Laura is also a loving stepmother to Dan's two older sons from a prior marriage. Apparently he’s married to a woman who may or may not have done porn. And if they take a liking to you, you may be able to partake in a 3-some. I think I’m likeable, may be I could work that into some alone time with Dan. What? I’d easily do the wife, but Dan is the prize here.

Miles Davis - Jazz Villa, St. Louis, Missouri, May/June 1963

Posting through the panic? Yeah, I guess. As the country I call home chooses fear, nihilism and chaos once again — again! — I have to find solace in music ... somehow. At the moment, I truly have no idea what else to do.

So there's a fresh Miles Davis Bootleg Series coming out any minute now, which gathers several discs of live performances in France from 1963 and 1964, when Miles was getting together with younger musicians like Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, George Coleman, expanding and exploring his signature sound. There's plenty of stuff from this era around, of course, but it's always a pleasure to hear it cleaned up and presented in a way befitting of these sterling, still exciting performances.

As an addendum, check out Davis, Williams, Hancock and Coleman in their first extant live recording, an audience tape made just a couple weeks before they'd head out to Europe for a series of festival dates. The Jazz Villa! Sounds nice, right? This collection of musicians hadn't been together long, but they seem have already gelled, spurring their leader on to some seriously soaring heights. The MVP, however, might be Coleman, who — once Shorter solidified the Second Great Quintet's lineup — might not get his due these days. But his solos are all fantastic, curious and inventive and lively, especially on the killer "All Blues." A song for today, a song for every day for the foreseeable future! ALL BLUES.

Kaiju Week in Review (March 3-9, 2024)

Shin Ultraman took an eternity to reach home video, but Godzilla Minus One will proceed as a more reasonable pace (by Japanese standards). Toho will release roughly one billion different editions on May 1, with Amazon- and Godzilla Store-exclusive physical bonuses both on offer. Godzilla Minus One/Minus Color is included with some of the pricier versions, or you can buy it as a standalone Blu-ray or DVD.

The black-and-white version of Shin Godzilla, SHIN GODZILLA:ORTHOchromatic, also hits Japanese home video on May 1. Like Minus Color, no 4K edition, just Blu-ray and DVD. A handful of new bonus features about ORTHOchromatic are included.

As is standard for Toho, none of these releases will be English-friendly. But given the films' popularity (and the lack of any legal way to watch Minus One since it left theaters), expect bootlegs to circulate at light speed.

Unsurprisingly, Godzilla Minus One cleaned up at the Japanese Academy Awards, with eight victories out of eleven nominations: Picture of the Year, Best Supporting Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Art Direction, and Best Lighting. That's one more than Shin Godzilla, and pretty much guarantees that the Toho Godzilla series will keep the prestige pictures coming. Strange times!

We'll see if Minus One can also capture Best Visual Effects at the American Academy Awards tonight. The Creator remains its biggest competition. The Gareth Edwards film is better-positioned by the usual metrics, with a second nomination for Best Sound and five wins at the Visual Effects Society Awards, but the enthusiasm gap for the films themselves may prove decisive. I'll be doing a much lengthier analysis during Wikizilla's Oscar stream tonight, which will start at about 6:00 PM ET, an hour before the ceremony begins.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire tickets may not be on sale yet, but Cinemark theaters have rolled out the above merch (much more efficiently than Target and Walmart have rolled out the toyline, if my local theater's any indication). I have a suspicion those plushies will be worth a mint a few years from now, small as they are; don't know about the other stuff. I bought the larger popcorn tin when I saw Dune: Part Two on Thursday. The promo image is deceptive, as the green area is transparent plastic and the Titan image is on the opposite wall of the tin, so that popcorn's either defying gravity or being held up by a hidden insert. There are Kong and Skar King variants as well, the latter revealing his height (318 feet). Poor Shimo; being the "secret" villain really narrows the amount of merch you get.

The other interesting GxK news this week (apart from the endless TV spot variants, which I'm not even trying to keep track of) is a collaboration with the American Red Cross, of all institutions. Donate blood, platelets, or AB Elite plasma from March 25 to April 7, get a free T-shirt. And for completion's sake, I'll mention the Roblox and Call of Duty cross-promos too.

Chibi Godzilla Raids Again, an unexpected delight last year, is getting a second season starting April 3. The official site revealed that Minilla is joining the cast, while those silhouettes to his right look like Titanosaurus (unjustly neglected in recent years), Gigan, and Gabara. Expect to follow the first season in being uploaded to the GODZILLA OFFICIAL by TOHO YouTube channel with English subtitles.

Here's another chance to watch Tsuburaya and Toei Animation's Kaiju Decode short, originally released in 2021. (It goes away at the end of the month, because every Japanese studio is apparently hellbent on making short films ephemeral, so download it now.) It's the basis for a recent mixed reality game for the Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest Pro, hence its return to the spotlight.

UniVersus, a collectable card game predicated on pitting characters from various franchises against each other, is going all in on Godzilla after offering a couple of Minus One cards through highly convoluted means last year. They're releasing a couple of Godzilla Challenger Series (preconstructed decks) on June 21, one based around Godzilla and Mothra, the other around King Ghidorah and Rodan, with Mechagodzilla thrown into the mix for both. I've never played this game in my life, but the prospect of a shiny Godzilla card with James Stokoe art is sort of tempting.
