Because of her heritage modern!Maria would allow her children to have wine with dinner, but only like half a glass at most. She's not getting them turnt at dinner, lol.

It would start at about 14 or so.

Manfred allowed it, too, and she would only let them have it during a meal. So she really sees no faults with it.

She understands that most people won't understand it though, so she doesn't do it when someone outside the family comes over.
