my thoughts in a nutshell: "oh no hes just like me fr"

ok i dont really review books or anything, thats my friend's job (cheeky promo alana_the_bibliophile on instagram) nah yeah but this one was just so good.

firstly, as a neurodiverse bi trans dude i related so hard to Malcom (the main character) with the overloads and insecurities and just everything. i may or may not have to get this entire transcript tattooed upon my person cos it just hits so close to home in places i didnt even realise until the book brought them to my attention.

like the whole thing about Malcolm not going after things that will make him happy (Peter) just cause he feels like hes so fucked up ± messing something up on purpose before you can mess it up by accident vibes. i literally said (in a squidward impression cos that is important information) "oh no hes just like me for real" out loud on a bus (but it was a loud bus so no one heard) (hopefully). also another thing, Peter telling Malcolm about his auDHD and what he likes + dislikes about sensory stuff. and Malcolm believing and respecting him. i just. its such wish fulfilment. that along with the rest of the story, its all just wish fulfilment. having multiple queer and neurodiverse friends that help you when youre struggling and will beat up your unsupportive family members. (also having a dude think youre hot. wouldnt mind)

secondly, it was just a good read. like i really enjoyed reading it, which hasnt happened for a while. it made me smile and laugh in public (which i never do). fr i was having a giggle on the bus, in class, in doctors waiting rooms, everything. i actually looked forward to reading it as well and i had to trudge through other stuff just so i could get back to it.

lowkey gives love simon vibes (from what i remember of the book when i read it in like 2018), just chock full of natural and believable sounding dialogue and references to things im sure ill actually like. (in my notes app on my old phone i went through the book and wrote down all the references made in love simon and it was pretty extensive (and now i have to do this for this book. oh no guess ill have to read it again oh this is so sad whelp better start now see ya)).

and like the friendship between the characters, the dialogue never felt too forced and they talked like actual people id talk to. swearing at and bullying your friends is a love language and it was done pretty well in this, and also the sending of memes being like an important step in a friendship is too real. also the revival of interest in records, my cousins poor bank account is a testament to that being relatable.

thirdly, the story. we got enemies to friends to lovers, we got 'there was only one bed', we got a road trip, we got a sickfic, and so much more and you know that i ate it up every time.

that as well as the epic highs and lows of making friends in your 20s (lol).

the book follows Malcolm slowly becoming friends with this irl dude Peter while falling for this 'mysterious' radio host Rebo, with his friends supporting him the whole time.

like i dont really go for romantic style stories but this was just so good (but then again ive barely read anything since back when i used to inhale books at like age 12) + the chemistry between Malcolm and Peter was just chefs kiss so good man.

also, the name Goby (one of his friends) kinda got me tho ngl, gobby is australian slang for… something, and i got a jump scare whenever they showed up lol.

Edit: they Goby on my Gumby till I Cheese. I'm so fucking sorry I had to write that down I couldn't get to sleep.

the only bad thing about the book (not that its bad bad, just like if i had to pick something) would be that the ending was made out of like 3 epilogues with indeterminable time skips between them. unless i missed something idk. im just more about the 'the characters kept on living' kinda ending, less 'albus serverus potter' style stuff, not that it was even like that tho.

but also wanting to own and run an incredibly specific cafe+store with your partner is just so fucking gay. oh my god. fanfiction shit right there /pos.

lastly, i haven't read heaps of books in the last couple years, preferring movies and shows more than my childhood self who lived in books series, almost like i didnt like reality or something (unthinkable ik)(i literally had this printed out and hung on my wall)(and on me liking movies more, thats a whole nother fucking topic and a half so ill complain about it in another post)(but anyway).

like honestly, i think that i might get back into reading, even though i forgot how many hours just fly by when i read, cos this was just great. (dont tell my mum she'll throw a fucking party)(again, different topic).

-whenever you tell Yukako about your dreams she always laughs and chuckles, she sends back long detailed paragraphs in response but if she’s too tired she send small paragraphs with poor grammar.

-he’s the type to send cursed images, you can expect horrifying shit to look at, I kinda feel like he would send pictures of dead animals with the words “Pablo dead” over them?? If this stuff freaks you out it’s gonna be a fictional animal, probably from a manga he likes.

-he tells you about his dreams too, he usually has nightmares but telling you helps him laugh it off.

-sometimes Surface steals Toshikazu’s phone and texts you, and if he does it means Hazamada is asleep. Toshikazu will take a picture of the sleeping Hazamada and send it to you saying “bitch fell asleep at 9pm.”

Mikitaka

-he doesn’t have a phone, you’d probably have to buy him one. Or he’ll steal one. Either works 🤪

After you and Tord finished running around the house and breaking a lot of stuff , you were feeling better the bad and intrusive thoughts werent bothering you anymore , you just felt tired now but a sleepy kind of tired , the others were downstairs preparing the things for a movie night and you decided to grab your stuff and put it on the guests room aka tom's room , you were used to sharing the room with one of them everytime you went there so neither you or them cared about the situation that have happened more times than they could remember. You put your baggages there , just a big back pack that Edd always wondered how that never gave you a back pain it looked too heavy even for you that were much stronger than you looled like,then you grabbed a towel and you pjs , a pair of sweat pants and a comfortable t shirt , it wasnt cold so your hoodie wouldnt be needed , you decided to take a shower you had a long day after all a lot had happened and you were more than ready to relax and have fun with your friends, you took a quick but very relaxing shower and changed into your clean pjs, it felt like a reward , you giggled with yourself remembering of that one "its like a reward" meme and steped out of the bathroom, you went downstairs to find Edd  , Matt and Tom in the kitchen preparing snacks and popcorn and also the drinks while Tord was on the living room setting up the movies you guys were going to watch, Tord liked horror stuff maybe that was one of only things you two had in common but since earlier it felt like you guys were starting to get a long a bit better, you didnt noticed you were starring at Tord while thinking about it,that until a pillow hits your face

- HEY!

You exclaimed annoyed throwing the pillow back at Tord who caught it very easily

Matt said , grabbing the two big bowls of Doritos and going to the living room, Tord already had the movies set there, you got the three smaller but still big bowls of candies , they had m&m's in one ,fummy worms and gummy bears all mixed in the other and one full of mini marshmallows , you headed to the living room setting the snacks on the little tabble there , Edd and Tom carefully placed the drinks there , Matt grabbed a blanket that was already placed there, it wasn't cold that night but it was comfortable to stay with a blanket while watching the movie , you sat where you always used to exactly on the middle of the four of them, Matt and Tom on your right , Tord and Edd on your left , you were pretty much comfortable there , Edd gave you a can of cola and Tom kept the bowl of doritos closer enough so you could get some as well, the movie startedz and of course it was Insane Zombies Pirates from Hell , Tord set all the movies for you guys to watch, you didnt minded watching those movies again it was like a classic to watch with them.

You were awake until the third movie, when you started feeling sleepy and didnt even noticed that you were putting your head on Edd's shoulder almost doozing off , he smiled looking at you

- Hey the movies aren't over yet!

FIRST I WENT TO THE FASHION OUTLET TO HANGOUT AND MAYBE RUN INTO GOT7 AND THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN BUT WHEN I GOT BACK MY MOM AND I GOT READY TO HEAD OUT AND WHEN WE DID IT WAS COLD AS HELL AND WOW I HATE, but after a while @namsjuhyuk and her sweetest friend @isabellac127 came and got in line with me and my mom and istg i love them so much (if you’re reading this hi i love you i hope you got my ugly quality bambam and yugyeom pictures and videos :’))) i tried to keep y’all in mind), after waiting in line and talking, 6:00 finally came around and we got in pretty quickly. When getting inside the venue we found our seats easily and sat down to wait!

When the boys came on iT WENT CRAZY LIKE THE FLOOR WAS SHAKING AND I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE BUT IM OKAY, IM BARELY ALIVE RN TYPING THIS THO... anyway, after a bit I was determined to get waves from as many of them as I could! A while after that I was looking around again, to see if anyone was looking my way, and again, Jinyoung was! I smiled and waved and he laughed and waved at me again, he probably got tired of me trying so hard bc me too Jinyoung...

Halfway through the meet, I was standing partly in the aisle and by my seat, not far enough in the aisle that I’d get in trouble, but enough to stand out. I looked up from where I was standing and saw BamBam looking at me... idk why but I got super awkward and gave him like a super shy wave and he just smiled at me and waved back, I got embARRESSED and looked down and just smiled and when I looked back up he was still looking at me smiling and giggling and he waved at me again and like ofc i waved back wow.

Okay,,,,,,,, low key I’m disappointed in Yugyeom and Youngjae... they BOTH looked at me when I waved at them and they just.... ignored me, it happened more than once so I promise I’m not like “OPPA IGNORED ME !!!!!11!!1131!” even people next to me were like “he’s looking at you !!” They did smile though, so I’M NOT GONNA COMPLAIN IM SIODFJAS. Jaebum seemed a bit tired and istg I wanted to fight someone because he was having so much fun, but he just acted out of it and he was looking at people, but not really looking at anyone... idk I just want to hold him....

When it got to the Home Run encore, I got as close to the stage as I could and bITCH !!!! Jinyoung almost took my phone, but he looked at me and just reached passed me and grabbed another person’s :’)))) he literally looked me in the eye while taking someone else’s phone ! but ya know what, he was so close to me that if I wanted to I could’ve kissed him. A bit after that, Jackson was walking around in my direction and he kind of looked at me and the people around me and looked back over at me and pointed at me and then some other people and istg I died. IM HIGH KEY MAD BC THE SAME PERSON THAT GOT THEIR PHONE PICKED BY JINYOUNG GOT JACKSON’S TOWEL AND THEY WERE STANDING RIGHT BEHIND ME LIKE ON TOP OF ME AND TRYING REALLY HARD NOT TO BE SALTY BECAUSE IM SO GRATEFUL I WAS EVEN ABLE TO GO OMG OKAY, MOVING ON TO WHAT REALLY MATTERS!!! PHOTO OP~

Alright, so ..... when i got up on stage the last two were Mark and Jinyoung and I thought I was going to sit in Jinyoung’s section, which I would’ve been perfectly content with, but I ended up being the second person in Mark’s section. As soon as I sat my ass in the chair I turned around and looked at Mark and he did his cute little face scrunch smile and I ignored it as best I could and said to him “I really just want to tell you I love you a lot,” he just blushed and smiled and bowed saying thank you very timidly, but no I wasn’t done, I shook my head and laughed a little before I told him “no, you don’t understand. You’re legitimately a very important person to me and you mean the world to me, I love you a lot.” He seemed very shocked and flustered, he bowed again and smiled so wide I thought I was going to pass out before saying “Thank you, I love you too” in the world’s quietest voice. AND THEN JINYOUNG - this bitch - walked up to me, and since I was turned in the chair, my hand was on the top of it, and he grabbed my hand and smiled his dAMN SMILE and said “Thank you! Thank you!” and I swear to god I didn’t know what to do because,,,,, did Park Jinyoung just.... try to steal me from Mark ??? I was so in shock that I automatically squeeze his hand and I’m yelling at him “Jinyoung!!! I love you too, Jinyoung! I love you!” and he just smiled and laughed bc it was time for the picture and he just held my hand during the picture even though I wasn’t in his section omg. Also, my mom wAS in his section and she said he put his arm around her and idk like.... pls don’t try to flirt with my momma when you’re holding my hand.. :’)))

AND THEN (ya there’s more omg) when I was walking away I stopped in front of Jackson and yelled at him (at this point staff was yelling at me telling me to leave but idgaf) “Jackson!!!” he turned around and walked up to me with a huge smile on his face reaching his hand out to me and bitch as bad as I wanted to hold that soft, gentle hand, I ignored it and told him “It’s my mother’s birthday today and she loves you!” and I turned around and pointed to my mom and his face just started glOWING and he walked up to her and bowed and was like “Happy Birthday!!!!” and held her hand while smiling and bowing and I just... he looked so happy to be wishing her a good birthday.

I’m so sorry this is so long but idk... i just want you all to know that I’m so happy and idk they all looked so good, but tired and .... I LOVE THEM MORE THAN ANYONE EVER
