27 hours for SNL

Another long post about another SNL adventure! This post will have tips on the SNL standby line for anyone that would like to try it in the future! I’m going to write about meeting the cast members in a different post

WOWOWOWOWOWOW WHAT AN AMAZING 2 DAYS

@amnesianda and I got in line at 4:20AM (i shit you not) on Friday morning. We wanted to get there extra early since it was our first time and we also just REALLY wanted to get in. The line was on 6th Ave (between 48th and 49th), but that’s not where it usually is. The line is normally on 48th St (between 5th and 6th Ave) in front of the Nintendo store, but they had to move us because there was a YUGE line for the Nintendo SNES. There were 7 people already in line when we got there. By 5AM there were 11 people.

I just brought cardboard to sit on, a blanket, a pillow, gloves, my laptop (for hw and movies), portable batteries for my phone, and snacks. I slept on the street for a few hours and I felt okay BUT I FORGOT SOCKS. DO NOT FORGET SOCKS. MY FEET WERE V COLD. It’s was really nice to just lay day and stare up at buildings and the sky. ALSO everyones friendly af there was an Australian guy that smiled at us and told us that he knew we were in the right place bc of my SNL cup (his name is Richard and he’s so nice 10/10). Sun came up at 7AM and it got less boring bc people were going to work so I was just people-watching for a while.

I think at 7AM Camila Cabello was performing next to the Today Show and the Nintendo store...? Really random, but yeah. Free concert lol

8AM there were 15 people. Around 9AM, amnesianda and I went to a store to get chairs to sit on. Discount & Dollar sells chairs for $15! It’s at 46th and 5th Ave. People saw us come back with chairs and decided to go buy some from there too. The chairs made a huge difference! Took a really nice nap in the chair and forgot where I was when I woke up. About 20 people were in line at 9:30AM.

You can leave the line for bathroom break, to get food, or to walk around a bit and warm up. Amnesianda and I would take turns to get food so that one of us could stay and watch over our stuff. There are guards that watch you and everyone in line is pretty serious about this, so your stuff is pretty safe. You can leave for like and hour or two and no one will rob you. We would normally walk around 30 Rock to warm up and maybe see cast members (we saw Lorne and Kyle in April and this time we saw Beck!). The bathrooms in 30 Rock are kind of hard to find. There’s one downstairs past the Banana Republic. Also, I can’t remember exactly which stairs, but there’s a water fountain right next to the stairs. Go downstairs and it should be in front of the Top of the Rock entrance.

At 11:20 AM, we hear a guard say that 29 people are in line. We stop keeping track after this because we’re too tired and there are too many people. I wanna say there was like 40 people around 2PM? Not 100% sure.

One of the SNL Line Legends is this guy named Chris. I think I overheard him say he’s been to 104 consecutive shows!!! He’s even friends with Bobby Moynihan on Facebook and one time Bobby had an extra ticket so he gave it to Chris! He’s really cool! If you ever get to do standby, go talk to him. He has a shit ton of stories

At 5PM, we were getting sick of all the people asking us the same questions over and over again. We thought it would be funny to make a sign.

A LOT OF PEOPLE LOVED THIS. The second we put the signs up people started taking pictures of them and laughing and complimenting us. An SNL intern saw us and asked if she could take a picture! Amnesianda found some pictures that people took of our signs on twitter lmao this shall be my legacy. We thought it was really funny that most people would just read the sign, gasp, and whisper “Ryan Gosling!!!” lol can’t relate too gay for that. I think Chris said we should add a picture of David S. Pumpkins saying ANY QUESTIONS??? We’ll probably do that next time!

Also, talk to the guards!! They’re really friendly!! One of them came up to us to compliment our signs! He mentioned that he has tickets to the Tonight Show next week 👍 cool guy 10/10 everyone’s friendly af

Around 7pm, the Nintendo line was almost gone so they moved us to 48th St. 

8PM to 12AM, we got some chick fil a, watched a couple of movies, and went to sleep. OKAY BUT IT WAS REALLY HARD TO SLEEP BC SEAN’S BAR AND KITCHEN WAS FUCKING ADDING A SIGN OUTSIDE SO THERE WAS SO MUCH FUCKING CONSTRUCTION AND FUCKING JACKHAMMERS I’M PRETTY SURE THAT SHIT WAS ILLEGAL BC IT WAS FUCKING MIDNIGHT FUCK YOU SEAN. but yeah I managed to sleep through it so :/

12AM - over 100 people in line

Woke up around 5AM and just listened to music and waited for the sun.

The guards will tell you to pack up your stuff at 6AM and to move up the line. 

The pages came early!!! I’m pretty sure we got our tickets before 7AM. You can choose dress rehearsal or the live show. Dress rehearsal is longer so you get to see 2 or 3 cut sketches and Weekend Update is longer. The cast also seems a bit calmer in dress! The whole vibe is different. Live feels different! Idk it’s just a little more exciting and there’s a chance you might get on TV! If you want to meet the cast afterwards, I recommend dress rehearsal. You’ll have enough time to be the first at barricades! Cast members will often only meet the people at the front of the barricades. Pick live if you REALLY LOOOVE the host! I might try for live when Kumail Nanjiani hosts because I fucking love him!! He’s hilarious!!!

No matter where you are in the line, it’ll probably be split 50/50. Half will want live and the other will want dress. The pages aren’t supposed to tell you how many people have picked dress/live but you can try to just look at their list and the ticket number. 3 people in front of me picked dress and 4 picked live. Amnesianda and I picked dress rehearsal because we wanted to wait at the barricades after and get cast members to sign our standby line signs!

SUPER FUN EXPERIENCE sure it was cold and 27 hours is a really long time BUT MAN IT WAS REALLY REALLY REALLY FUN IM DEFINITELY GOING TO DO THIS AGAIN! Thank you so much for reading this 💙💙💙 keep an eye out for my second post about meeting the cast members because I have some cute stories about that
