Hi, I’m Awpollar, a Bay Area based fitness enjoyer.

I’ve been lifting for over a year and a half now and have come to realize that I’d love to get people into lifting (or convince them to try out whatever sport or physical activity they want). I want to empower brown women, specifically south Asian women, to be open to lifting.

However, my platform is open to all people and I hope that my posts can be inspiring to anyone who has been wanting to see realistic representation in fitness. I want to show you all that it’s okay to take up space, especially in environments and industries where the majority is not representative of yourself.

My mission is to build a community of like minded individuals who are passionate about building one another up and encourage not just fitness but health. Everyone comes from different situations and there’s no one size fits all when it comes to the definition of “fitness”. Being able to experience the ups and downs of that journey to see how people come out on the other side is what makes fitness fun for me.

#1: OK, so first I’m just going to say that please don’t expect to me to post that often. I’m currently dealing with school in my personal life. I am happy to post. If you do not I will report you you only get one warning.

#4: Fourthly I don’t do commissions, request, or trade, due to the fact that I don’t have a stable bank account where I could put that money for commissions or our trades. So here’s the thing, right? Sometimes when people are online, they act and behave in ways they wouldn’t dare to irl

I’m not the government. I don’t have a staff to edit my posts. I’m not anybody special. I’m just some dude on the internet who enjoys sharing my opinions and other things. If YOU don’t like or agree with my opinions or something else that I post, you are completely free to keep scrolling or to block me. That’s fine. But when anons begin demanding that I phrase things the way that they’re more comfortable with, then we got serious issues

And another thing: people need to not be so quick to assume malicious intent where none exists

For example, I have accidentally typed the number 500 in a post when I meant to type 50–now, in the specific post, it truly was a significant error. But an anon immediately jumped into the comments and self righteously accused me of lying to make a point, rather than saying to themselves, “Hm, maybe Odin just made a typo”

I have literally had all of these dumb, stupid ass conversations (almost verbatim) here on tumblrdotcom, and lemme tell ya, it’s frustrating af

And other times, when I author a post containing a hyperlink on desktop but then later edit it on mobile, sometimes the hyperlink doesn’t carry over to mobile and you’re left with a post that may say “source,” but is not clickable. It happens sometimes, and it’s not a big deal, right?? WRONG! Instead of sending an ask to ask me what happened to the link, I’ve had anons accuse me of “not crediting” a source

I’ve had people use anon to accuse me of cropping videos so that I could somehow “steal” credit from others, and I’m just like … What??? Who does that? Who has the time for all of that? Are you aware that sometimes people on the internet see something like a video or a photo from somewhere else (also uncredited from twitter, reddit, facebook, etc), and then just post it here on tumblr??

And no, I am not talking about reposting someone’s art or other works

Look, if YOU get your thrills from finding out who/where/when the very first instance of every single cat or dog video came from, that’s great! Do you. Knock yourself out. Have fun. But don’t try to shame others because we aren’t all humorless poindexters like you

If I post something from tiktok, the video generally tells you where to go to see it there. If it’s a tweet or from reddit, again, there are usually twitter or reddit handles in the tweet. And NO, I am not putting a link to every single tweet or reddit thread or facebook post — if that’s that important to you, then figure it out. It’s not hard, and in the year 2023 most adults should have the necessary skills to find an original tweet, if that’s something that’s important to you. I’m not doing it for you, not sorry

(SN: I’ll never forget when I took my first college English literature course, and at the end of the semester I was on the bubble for getting an A or an A+ in the class, and our final exam was a written essay that would decide my final grade. I didn’t quite score the A+ that I wanted, and when I looked over my essay, the professor wrote on it: “Odin, you are the quintessential college freshman, and your inquisitiveness has made this semester one of my most enjoyable.” And after class, I walked up to him and thanked him, and asked him what quintessential meant? He opened his mouth and was about to answer me, but then he smiled, wagged his finger at me and said, “you should learn to look things up.” He was one of my favorite professors (had a British accent, eyeglasses and reminded me of Giles from Buffy), but I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I’ve also made what are very obviously jokes online, only to have people accuse me of misrepresenting facts—and then I’m like, do I really need to explain the concept of what a joke is to you people??

I think that some people need to be seen as, or have a desire to be known as a gatekeeper, and instead of using just a tiny bit of common sense, they try to make mountains out of molehills to elevate themselves in the eyes of their followers

The people who act this way are truly joyless human beings, and they probably suck all the fun out of parties and other events that people are forced to spend time with them

Maybe try socializing a bit more? Learn to read (online) cues. Don’t be so eager to accuse everyone of doing something wrong just so that YOU get to look like the good guy

Something Important for the Art Community

So guys, sorry to be keep bugging you all about this, specially on a beautiful Saturday, but it’s an important issue concerning the art community that I feel necessary to stress.

These three screenshots are from artworks of mine that were reposted on a Lucifer fan account on Instagram, and as you can see, there’s no credit whatsoever. Not on tags, not on the caption, not on the hashtags. This is not only upsetting and frustrating, but it verges on illegal behavior.

Every artist, and I’m no different, appreciates more than we can possibly ever say the love received by our audience. Those who have been following me for a while, both here and on my other social media accounts, know that I try to respond to every single comment as much as possible, and I constantly thank you for your support and for the love you show for my work. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be where I am today, literally living the dream. My point is, sharing my art is both humbling and proudful. But not sharing as this account did, completely erasing authorship and posting my art as if it were just another Lucifer-related photo found online (which is also illegal). There are hashtags mentioning “TikTok”, “video”, “fresk�� (whatever that means), “Eve” (who’s not even on these photos), but not one single mention of the origin of these artworks: not “nathsketch”, “nathannaerica” or any of it. They tagged the actors, and if Kevin, DB or Rachael ever saw this, it would be more wonderful than anything I could imagine, but guess what? They wouldn’t know who is the real creator.

To be honest, this is the first time I ever encountered a situation as serious as this and I’m sure it won’t be the last, but I just wanted to take the opportunity to point out once more that this is a clear example of what constitutes illegal use of someone else’s intelectual property. My artworks are generating a lot of engagement on this account and they are some of the most liked posts they have (other than pictures of Tom himself, for obvious reasons). People are commenting on my artworks and some of them think the person behind this account created them. This is damaging and it seriously devaluates my work. If it weren’t for some of my followers on Instagram, I’d never even know that this was happening behind my back, and unfortunately it’s been happening for a while now.

I’ve reached out to Instagram and I’m awaiting for their reply, but until then, these screenshots will be a reminder to myself that we need to keep a watchful eye on our works of art. Other people certainly won’t let us forget it. Art is not just a passion, it’s a livelihood. For those who are not in the art business, it may seem something trivial or that it’s much ado about nothing, but it is a business like any other, and it has rules and guidelines to be observed, otherwise it would just be completely chaos.

Again, sorry for the long rant-like post, or for sounding like a victim, but what seems obvious to most of us, may not be so to others, so please, please: if you’re going to share, post, reblog, or by any other means, divulge any content made by another person or entity, ALWAYS CREDIT THEM. Do not remove watermarks, signatures or anything else that helps identify the creator.

Art is beautiful, it’s essencial and it’s food for the soul, so let’s not ruin it.

Every single thing can be tested, tweaked, and optimized. It's up to you to test a variety of strategies and see what works best for YOU and YOUR audience. Be yourself and stay consistent

Here are some things to consider when you're posting:

- Time of Post

- Day of Post

- Length of Post

- Format of Post

- Headline or Starting Sentence Structure

- Words used in the post (avoid clickbait words)

- Posting just text

- Posting an image

- Posting multiple images

- Posting a graphic

- Posting a long video

- Posting a short video

- Reposting a tiktok or reel

- Use of emojis (Red & Green emojis get more exposure! 🍎🍏)

- Links in posts

- Hashtags in posts (not recommended on FB)

AFTER you post, watch for these factors to boost your posts:

- Immediate likes

- Immediate comments

- Micro Conversations (commenting back to comments)

- Post Shares

- YOUR SHARE ACTIVITY (Sharing your posts to your stories, groups, pages, etc...)

Some posts get immediate activity. You'll know right away if it's going to take off.

Some posts take a while to ramp up and get seen. You can boost your engagement using tactics like sharing, comment bumping, etc...

After you have a few posts that have performed well, model what worked.

Model the length, the headline structure, the time and day of the post, and continue doing this until you find what works for you.
