What if they aim to kill Jack?

TBH anon when they said they might kill someone off, jack was (& is) my first thought. i mean………… reinhardt has a life. 

i mean his whole arc started out with him learning during the omnic crisis to step back and shield those around him, and now, decades later, the characters around him are putting a shitload of emphasis on him retiring. i could see his character arc kind of doing a 180 and going from ‘be their shield’ to ‘please sit down old man, youre going to kill yourself’ yknow, reimnhardt learning that he cant shield those he loves if hes dead, learning how to be retired (and whatever it is going on with him potentially lying to brigitte tossed in there). the reflections comic where he’s sitting on a couch reading to a bunch of little kids gives big retirement vibes. he gives off the impression that he knows what he’d do with himself once he was no longer fighting

but JACK on the other hand, his arc is all about aging & decay .his condition reflects overwatch’s: when ow is good, jack is good and when ow is struggling, jack struggles. when ow ‘dies’, jack ‘dies’ . i could honestly see him dying as a symbolic end of the old overwatch & the beginning of a new overwatch with SC pharah or smth.

PLUS, the thing about jack dying is his death would have the biggest affect on overwatch’s overall plot than anyone else’s. everyone (barring maybe orisa/bastion) knows of SC morrison/76, and a big chunk of the cast knew him personally and admitted to being inspired by him at some point. his death would affect several character’s arcs pretty intimately, especially ana and reaper’s.

& lets be real, his whole ‘old soldiers never die’ thing and his ‘retirement doesnt suit me’ shtick….. don’t bode well for him. ([yzma voice]: its called a cruel irony)

 i mean like what’s the alternative? we all like to write fanfic abt jack and gabe retiring together, but do you really think jack could do that? just retire? he’s been a soldier since he was 18, he’s never been anything else. ever. i cant see him returning to an old cabin somewhere, baking muffins and reading little women until his heart gives out one day.

& not to be emo but i could see his death making reaper switch sides from talon to the recall, undercover agent or not

edit: i feel like i should elaborate i mean this happening far down the line in terms of story. not right now or any time soon
