yeah you’ve read Marx and could debate communist and anarchist philosophies all day but are you normal about human rights?
#ra speaks#personal#the number of times I’ve meet self proclaimed radicals whose entire philosophy boils down to#‘good things for everyone except the ones That Don’t Deserve It’#do you believe torture is ever justifiable? do you believe in capital punishment by the state? do you believe in punitive justice?#if given power over the shittiest scummiest worst human being you can imagine how would you treat them?#this isn’t to say ‘play real niceys with the Nazis’ this is to say that as much as it sucks nazis are people and people have human rights#rights are universal. if a person doesn’t ‘deserve’ a right you are either a) admiring it is not a right but a privilege or b) dehumanizing#both of which are foundational to the current systems. so don’t talk about Revolution when all you want is to be the one enacting judgement#like if you don’t believe in universal human rights if you don’t believe in restorative justice don’t fucking parade around pretending u do#id be half as pissed if people were just honest with others and themselves about their beliefs.#but they feel compelled to lie and be all ‘welllllll yes but actually no’ it’s so fucking frustrating
