Jodie Whittaker regenerated in The Power of the Doctor episode of Doctor Who, which aired on October 23, 2022. The episode saw the Doctor's three oldest and most iconic enemies The Master (Sacha Dhawan), the Daleks, and the Cybermen (both voiced by Nicholas Briggs) to get rid of the Doctor by the Master taking over her life. The episode featured previous Doctors (David Bradley, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy, and Jo Martin) and companions Yaz (Mandip Gill), Dan (John Bishop), Ace (Sophie Aldred), Tegan (Janet Fielding), Graham (Bradley Walsh), Melanie Bush (Bonnie Langford), Jo Jones (Katy Manning), and Ian Chesterton (William Russell, who set a world record for the longest gap in between televised appearances as the same character at 57 years). It also featured the return of UNIT with Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave). The episode marked the 300th episode, was part of the BBC's 100 year anniversary, and was the lead into the 60th Doctor Who anniversary. Whittaker regenerated into Doctor 14, played by David Tennant, who was the first Dr Who actor to play the character twice. ("The Power of the Doctor", Dr Who, TV Event)

Paul Bettany playing the Archangel Michael, protector of the Catholic Church. This is contrasted with the hella religious Dennis Quaid playing the atheist diner owner
Gabriel being evil, again. Big Prophecy vibes.
GLADYS. An icon.
Adrianne Palicki playing a smoking pregnant waitress
Idk if this baby is the Second Coming, if Charlie is only “eight months along”, get him to the NICU
Kate Walsh coming through like always. Queen
Willa Holland. Just every line she has. Amazing.
I can’t believe I’ve seen this at least six times
You can tell this was written by a man. Apparently a childless man
The Angels have black eyes and swear to make sailors blush (the ones that talk anyway)
My main takeaway in January 2010 was… I actually can’t remember.
Truly one of the most films of all time.

Four Hobbits Wood, Astin, Boyd, Monaghan In Rare ‘LOTR’ Reunion At FAN EXPO New Orleans in January
Tumblr media
It has been more than 20 years since Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan first took the film world by storm as the “four hobbits” in the original The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. Now the four get together at FAN EXPO New Orleans, set for January 5-7, 2024, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, to greet fans, pose for photo ops and sign autographs in a rare full reunion of the actors who portrayed “Frodo Baggins,” “Samwise Gamgee,” “Pippin Took” and “Merry Brandybuck,” respectively, in the popular trilogy. Additionally, FAN EXPO New Orleans announced today that popular guest Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) will also attend the show.
Wood, Astin, Boyd and Monaghan will also participate in “The Four Hobbits: An Unexpected Reunion,” a special premium live show on Saturday, January 6 at 7:30 p.m., during which fans will have the opportunity for further interaction with the stars at this exclusive evening of stories, questions, discussions, hilarity and more. The once-in-a-lifetime Backstage Pass package includes an in-person Autograph and Photo Op with all four Hobbits plus a Gold Ticket to the reunion event.
Tickets for FAN EXPO New Orleans and the “Four Hobbits” reunion event are available at https://fanexpohq.com/fanexponeworleans/four-hobbits-unexpected-reunion, with a variety of individual single day, 3-day and Ultimate Fan Packages to choose from.
Following the LOTR trilogy, Wood has gone on to success in many areas of the entertainment industry. His record label, Simian Records and film production company SpectreVision/Company X have spearheaded numerous critically acclaimed projects, and his more than 120 film and television credits attest to his passion for his craft and enthusiasm to express his creativity.
In addition to the “Samwise” portrayal, Astin has demonstrated his innate ability to share his heart with the world through such iconic roles as “Mikey Walsh” in The Goonies, the title character of Rudy, and “Bob Newby” in "Stranger Things 2," roles that epitomize hope, determination and loyalty. Sean's recent feature films include the award-winning thriller Adverse (2020); the family comedy Hero Mode (2021); Charming the Hearts of Men (2021); and the 2022 comedy iMordecai.
The Scottish-born Boyd also had roles in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, On a Clear Day and The Flying Scotsman. He has appeared in popular television series like “Outlander,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “NCIS: Hawaii,” “Snowfall” and others, and in many iterations of the LOTR franchise, including video games. He has done voice work on numerous productions as well.
Monaghan has appeared in more than 50 productions and is known to many as “Charlie Pace” in the hit NBC series “Lost,” on which he appeared in 77 episodes. Some of his other featured roles have included spots on X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009 and ABC’s “Flash Forward” that year. He was recently the lead in the AMC+ series “Paul Sarno.”
Campbell first gained notice for his portrayal of “Ash Williams” in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead franchise, appearing as the character in numerous films and series including the original 1981 movie, time-bending Army of Darkness in 1992, last decade’s “Ash vs. Evil Dead” series and others. He is also well-known for a long run in the hit USA Network series “Burn Notice” and last holiday season starred in the Hallmark Channel movie My Southern Family Christmas.
The LOTR cast and Campbell join an already impressive autograph area that includes Danny Trejo (Machete, The Book of Boba Fett), the "Daredevil" tandem of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars’ “The Mandalorian”), Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher,” “The Walking Dead”), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, “Avengers: Infinity War”), the “Charmed” duo of Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan, Peter Cullen (Transformers), Jason Lee (Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous); Linda Hamilton (The Terminator franchise, Dante’s Peak), Jeff Ward (“One Piece,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), Peter Weller (RoboCop, The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension), Felicia Day (“The Guild,” “Supernatural”) and many others. Fans can see the full list of celebrities at fanexpohq.com/fanexponeworleans/celebrities.
FAN EXPO New Orleans features the biggest and best in pop culture: movies, TV, music, artists, writers, exhibitors, cosplay, with three full days of themed programming to satisfy every fandom. More guest news will be released in the following weeks, including line-up reveals for comic creator guests, voice actors, and cosplayers.

4 Albums on rotation:
Tumblr media
Bob Fox - Borrowed Moments
This album has Shoals of Herring and Dance to your Daddy and it's just a really comforting few songs to put on in the background - his other album with Sally Wheatley on is normally in the mix here too.
Tumblr media
Nati is amazing; Stay and Ashes are pretty much always on repeat
Tumblr media
The Amazing Devil - The Horror and the Wild
This doesn't have my favourite song on it (Pruning Shears) but pretty much every other song is a hit. I love Wild Blue Yonder and it's one of those albums where you just want to sing/scream along.
Tumblr media
Bastille - All this bad blood
Okay so Icarus and Poet are brilliant songs to write to and I won't take any criticism on that.
Shuffle your liked songs and post the first 6
I have had Spotify for over 10 years so this is hell
Tumblr media
Like nearly 9k songs worth of hell
So I liked pretty much all of Shinedown's stuff after I came back from Iron Maiden when they were the openers because I had liked them for years but didn't have anything of theirs saved on Spotify other than the Alice in Wonderland soundtrack.
I got really into country music in university so no surprises there. Maya Hawke I found after watching Stranger Things because I vaguely knew who she was by liking Ethan Hawke but hadn't looked her up properly. James Blunt is just iconic. Kate Walsh was someone I am pretty sure I had on my beat up old MP3 player and Dragula is just perfect Halloween playlist music so
I'm gonna (no pressure) tag: @tolrais @belennui @weird-tea @magic-of-camelot

News:
What are people talking about culturally at the moment? Dune 2! Alexander McQueen AW24! High & Low! Problemista! Celebrity Big Brother? (Sharon Osbourne, Louis Walsh, Kate Middleton's uncle, Zeze Mills???)

Brits 2024 were last week - Raye (winner of 6 awards) is an important artist to know. Cmat wore a buster dress by Sophie Lincoln also.

The BMJ have published a paper titled 'Effect of exercise for depression: systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials' and it has found that dancing is extremely beneficial for people, and even more beneficial than SSRIs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is why dancing is eternal - speaks to the body, the spirit, can't be contained and anti-night club laws seek to create a more unhealthy society.
The new landscape of the city:
The BT Tower was sold by BT Group for £275M and is now owned by MCR Hotels which will be turning it into an upscale hotel. The city of London doesn't lack iconic hotels - Claridges, The Standard, Ace Hotel (now called One Hundred Shoreditch, Hoxton Hotels - what angle could they be taking? What needs will this new iconic building fill for their guests....
Milan + Paris Fashion Week:
Fur made from denim - really great fashion innovations from Glenn Martens and team. Alongside the streaming of the run up to the show on a 24 hour watch. Something about the way this brand operates - it's almost fake transparency but not in a bad way, in a way like you are in the in group and we're not pretentious. We know what poppers are....It really reminded me of Big Brother culture - the voice, the absurd fashion, the faces on the screen watching you. The people physically in the seats feel less important because we can't see their faces but the digital, peering in....there's something there Mr Martens.
Age of Surveillance - embracing humanity and unexpected. A 24 hour stream is a bit of an invasion of privacy but letting people in can create this dynamic environment, tailored to what the audience wants. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. These kind of live streams are related to mukbang culture, the need to be comforted even though the people that we're watching may not be that comfortable.
youtube
A lot of the runway feels less fun, full of capes, fur (!!!), less risk. Recession time, no time to mess about :( London and New York even though lack of investment feel real - exciting, bigger brands want to show in Milan and Paris which is fair enough but there is no heart. I'm sure they'll make some money.
RE: New McQueen - interesting, how does one recreate a house that has so much passion, and turn it into their own thing, their own commercial thing? I think there's more promise in Sean McGirr's McQueen than in the original Gucci debut. There's something there in not making something super commercial on the first thought.
Related to this!

Person of the week:
Eugene Angelo - VJ for Peggy Gou, also been on several interesting panels such as below and also a CTM talk about Gen Z's clubbing habits. Works with creator Tigris Li on technologist projects.

To read:
Please read the I-D newsletter also, it seems like they put a lot of work into it and I think it has some interesting ideas. But let's see....

Amell, Bernthal, Cox, Van Dien Added To FAN EXPO Philadelphia Lineup, June 2-4
Tumblr media
Things just got a lot more interesting for fans of a few blockbuster franchises as FAN EXPO Philadelphia today announced a new slate of key additions to its already outstanding lineup of guests. “Arrow” star Stephen Amell, “Punisher” standout Jon Bernthal, “Daredevil” headliner Charlie Cox and “Stranger Things” breakout Grace Van Dien will now be attending the event, June 2-4 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Advanced Tickets for FAN EXPO Philadelphia are on sale through May 18 at www.fanexpophiladelphia.com, with discounts on individual day, 3-day and Ultimate Fan Packages available for adults, youths and families. VIP packages are also available now, with dozens of special benefits including priority entry, limited edition collectibles, exclusive items and much more.
Amell teams with fellow “Arrow” cast member Emily Bett Rickards; Cox joins “Daredevil” co-star Vincent D’Onofrio; and Van Dien pairs with Joseph Quinn as a “Stranger Things” tandem at the show.
They complement the other previously announced FAN EXPO Philadelphia guests, led by icon Michael J Fox, his Back to the Future costars Christopher Lloyd and Tom Wilson; Henry Winkler (“Happy Days,” “Barry”); Christina Ricci (“The Addams Family,” “Wednesday”); Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man); Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings, Rudy); Peter Weller (Robocop, Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension); Katee Sackhoff (“The Mandalorian,” “Battlestar Galactica); and Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter). Additional celebrities, voice actors, creators, cosplayers exhibitors and programming for this major comics, sci-fi, horror, literary, anime and gaming convention will be announced closer to the event.
Known to millions as the crime-fighting vigilante in the title role of “Oliver Queen/Green Arrow” in the eponymous hit CW series, as well as “The Flash,” “Supergirl,” “Batwoman,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and other iterations, Stephen Amell has also appeared as a series regular in numerous shows, prominently "Hung," "Private Practice" and "Heartland." He also had recurring roles in "New Girl" opposite Zooey Deschanel and "Private Practice" as the love interest to Amy Brenneman.
Jon Bernthal played the lead “Frank Castle” in the Netflix Marvel series “Daredevil” after a popular run as “Shane Walsh” in the AMC hit drama “The Walking Dead.” The classically trained Bernthal most recently starred in last year’s “American Gigolo” on Showtime and has appeared in such large-scale productions as World Trade Center, The Pacific and Rampart, and has had guest roles on top TV series like "CSI: Miami," "Boston Legal," "Without a Trace" and "How I Met Your Mother."
Charlie Cox has had more than 40 screen credits, with his role as “Matt Murdock” on “Daredevil” (reprised in “She-Hulk” and Spider-Man: No Way Home) the most prominent. He gained wide notice for his portrayal of “Owen Sleater” in the HBO period drama “Boardwalk Empire” and played the lead role of “Michael Kinsella” in the AMC+ crime drama series “Kin.”
One of the breakout stars of this past season on “Stranger Things,” Grace Van Dien has earned a fervent following for her role as “Chrissy Cunningham,” the latest among her 30+ credits. She was also a regular on the NBC drama “The Village” and portrayed real-life actress Sharon Tate in the film Charlie Says, based on the Charles Manson murders.
Philadelphia is the eighth event on the 2023 FAN EXPO HQ calendar; the full schedule is available at fanexpohq.com/home/events/.
