i find my own gifs on iwtv twitter all the time, it's infuriating. some of them post the link back to tumblr blogs in a reply to the initial gif, but those get seen by no one, but most just steal them (and those are big accounts as well). i hate these people. i've never seen a fandom steal and repost stuff so much as i do in this one.

It's really irritating. I guess maybe it's so common on twitter partially because tumblr is more established as a platform for gifmaking with communities built around it and twitter has less people making gifs (at least if we're talking about gifsets of shows and movies) and lots of twitter users don't seem to see gifmaking as a form of art? I remember seeing in a different fandom one big twitter account was called out for reposting gifs without credit and they got angry and defensive and basically said 'anyone can make a gif', and that definitely wasn't the only time i've seen someone on twitter expressing that opinion. Like fairly many people seem to think editors just put a video into some automated gif maker and it spits out a ready high quality gif or something, and don't realize it's something that takes a lot of work and every gifmaker has their own recognizable style. I've been making gifs for like a year now and i think i'm still a total beginner. Whenever you see a nice gif (or any kind of edit) i can guarantee the maker has put a lot of work and skill and time into making it and if you're going to post it on another platform without asking them first including a credit should be the default
