The fact messmer HID the enir-illim tower tells me that Marikas sin was whatever she did to activate the divine tower. Whatever she did she wanted messmer to hide because it would of painted her as a villain to her people.

Also love how there's more in game lore detailing how absolutely brutal cruel sadistic and unnecessarily brutal the crusade against the hornsent but people still wanna label the hornsent as the villains. ( Their only visible sin was the jars let's be real here)

Messmers army didn't just kill these people they actively tortured took pleasure in murder and culturally cleansed to the very foundation. The furnace golems alone are nightmarish and diabolical. Imagine the face of your Satan adorning these things filled with fire and the screams of innocent people reaching out in a desperate attempt to escape.
