have you heard about takarazuka revue? it is an all-female japanese theater troupe founded in the 1910s that perform extravagant broadway-like musicals, where both female (musume-yaku) and male (otoko-yaku) roles are played by women. it's a counterpart of sorts to kabuki, a classic form of japanese theater where only men are allowed to perform.

most of their productions are adapted from western literature or manga, and their most iconic play is based on the rose of versailles, a manga about the french revolution. our protagonist in kageki shoujo is sarasa, a 15 year old girl whose dream is to be the main character in that play. and to achieve that, she joins the troupe's boarding school to learn theater! though in this anime takarazuka is named kouka for some reason

and if you've read synopses you might have also heard about sarasa's counterpart and other main character, ai, a girl who was forced to quit her idol group after a scandal and enrolled the school as well. the show focuses on these two, but also their classmates and some seniors. the characters all have really interesting and developed storylines, i really enjoyed that aspect of it

so, to sum it up, kageki shoujo is a slice of life drama manga about a musical theater school! the anime is a really good adaptation too that i definitely recommend checking out. adds build up in just the right places and everyone's singing voices are wonderful, even if it cuts out some things here and there. really really good piece of media as a whole

extra yet important note: if you look up the manga, you'll notice there is kageki shoujo: the curtain rises and kageki shoujo!!. you have to read curtain rises first, they're separate mangas because there were some magazine publishing problems. the anime is titled kageki shoujo!!

however! and this is important: while this manga is mostly a shoujo, the curtain rises was originally published at a seinen magazine. because of that difference in target audience, the curtain rises treats some darker and much more sensitive themes, such as csa and eating disorders. while well-handled, it's still rough to read so take care! the rest of the series is much nicer.

This is a PSA. Hikaru no Go (2020) is now available to stream on Prime Video. You should watch it.

But Caity, you may ask. Why should I watch this Chinese live action drama based on the popular turn-of-the-millenium Japanese manga and anime of the same name? The answer, my friends, is because it is fucking phenomenal.

Hikaru no Go is my favorite sports anime. It was one of the first manga I ever read. When I own a home someday and have bookshelves, it is one of the only manga series I wish to own in its entirety in print. The story is deeply compelling, moving, funny, relatable. It truly has something I haven't found in another animanga in twenty years.

And the Chinese live action adaptation takes that perfect, beautiful source material and creates something equally perfect and beautiful (if not more so? feels blasphemous to say, but boy howdy I'm not NOT saying it).

The way in which the original Japanese story—the characters, the culture, the game of go—is translated into Chinese is really masterfully executed. The story is incredibly faithful to the original, and when it does differ, it does so in really creative, thoughtful ways that really work.

The actors fucking nail it. Honestly all of them, but I'm looking at the kids in the first two episodes in particular. Blown away by the performances of a couple of ten-year-olds. Kids have a bright future ahead of them, damn.

This show has the budget. If y'all know me at all, you know I'll enjoy a low-budget wuxia flick because it's a good time, but damn, if I had standards, they would be met and exceeded by this show. The hair, the makeup, the costumes, the effects (there is an effect every time the "ghost" is on screen where he is partially translucent. It is perfectly executed and incredibly impressive, at least to my layman eyes). The very first opening credits scene is super beautiful, the end credits are beautiful, it's all just so pretty and polished and feels good on my eye holes.

Honestly, I cannot gush enough about this show. It ranks up with Nirvana in Fire in my heart (which I do not say lightly, considering I went through my entire list and lowered the ratings I'd given each show accordingly after I first watched nif so that the 10 weighed more heavily).

tl;dr: If you liked the hikago animanga, you should watch this show. If you never read/watched hikago, you should watch this show. If you did not like hikago, you should watch this show. Please watch this show, I am begging you.

Yuta watches you train.

Yuta watched from the bleachers as you continued your spar with Maki. You had been training hard and as a result, have been able to best Maki in three spars yet. Continuing to be stubborn Maki demanded you spar with her again determined to get a defeat on you.

"Wow they have really improved, hu?" Yuta said to Panda and Toge.

"They sure have!" Panda agreed.

"Salmon" Toge exclaimed.

"Hmm," Panda hummed scanning his eyes from Yuta to you. "You sure are watching them closely today," Panda teased.

"What?!" Yuta exclaimed jumping a bit in his seat. "No, I- I'm watching the same as you two!" He yelped nervously.

"Oh come on, you know you don't have to lie to us," Panda said thumping Yuta on the back.

"Bento flakes," Toge agreed.

Yuta looked down at his shoes, unsure how to respond to his friends. The truth was he had been admiring you for some time now. However, he was haunted by flashbacks of Rika whenever he considered approaching you.

The last person he fell in love with met an awful fate due to him being unable to control his cursed energy. Unknowingly, he cursed Rika, causing her to turn into a cursed spirit instead of passing on after being fatally injured.

Anytime he daydreamed about you or spoke to you for too long, worst-case scenarios flash over his eyes. What if something ever happened to you because of his inability to control his cured energy just like Rika?

Yuta let out a heavy sigh looking back up at you and Maki sparring for a fifth time.

"What's that sigh for? You know I think they kind of have the hots for you too you know," Panda said.

"Hu?" Yuta exclaimed looking at Panda.

Panda laughed, "You humans are complex creatures but sometimes you get so wrapped up in yourselves you miss obvious signs from each other."

"Like um- what kind of signs?" Yuta asked shyly unable to control his curiously.

"You really haven't noticed?" Panda asked. Even Toge looked confused and curious to hear Panada's observations of you. "Well for starters even when you're taking way too long to pack your stuff up after class they always wait for you. They suddenly mix up words anytime they are in a conversation with you, and not to mention anytime you go out on a mission they pace around restlessly until you come back safe."

Yuta felt his face get hot at Panda's observations. Did you really like him back? Yuta looked back to you and Maki just as you spun around landing a final blow on Maki, winning the fourth spar. Landing the blow and throwing Maki to the floor you looked up at the bleachers making eye contact with Yuta. His face was completely flushed and he immediately looked away.

You felt your own face flush at realizing he was blushing from watching you.

"Just say something to him already," Maki said irritated.

Maki was right, Yuta was very timid and if you took the lead it would drastically speed your relationships up. However, you wanted to be mindful of his past. It couldn't have been easy for him to live with his deceased girlfriend as a curse all through his childhood.

You let out a heavy sigh, "No, I'll wait till he's ready."

I haven’t read the manga only caught up on the anime- so I hope this is still pretty accurate for Yuta! Thank you for my first JJK request 🤭!

Hello! After a good few weeks of combing through lots of data, I have coherent numbers for your viewing pleasure. This whole thing birthed from the hypothesis that past BTS fans now liked Charles and quickly grew from there. I am happy to say that many of my suspicions were confirmed and some surprises arose along the way. Thank you to everyone who participated and took the time to relive some great or not-so-great memories. Enjoy!

Some Notes Before Hand:

Combing through this data was a bit challenging. I tried to find data points that most fans would find interesting. To help give myself some sort of a guide I chose one of the top subjects in each category and analyzed the data attached to them. I will probably look back into this stuff more in the future, but trying to find points for everyone is a wild goose chase. That being said, if you notice something I do not, please let me know! I want to hear what you all think that's why I made this :)

Favorite Drivers (current grid):

So this was a bit surprising, but I think it was caused mainly by my wording. According to this graph, out of 346 users, Oscar Piastri is currently the most popular driver by a long shot. While I do think Oscar is very well loved, I do not think this is true at all. Because I allowed participants to choose more than one driver it became less of a true ranking and more "these are the drivers people think most positively of currently". I think if I asked everyone to pick one person Oscar would not be at the top and more likely around the 3rd-5th range. Other than Oscar it is also important to note my audience certainly had an effect on the results. Things are probably skewed slightly towards other drivers than they are realistically, but I still think this is pretty close.

For the future keep the numbers up here in mind and our top three, Oscar, Charles and Max, will be important. All pipelines are based off and cross referenced with this data set.

31/69 Haikyuu!! fans said that Max was one of their favorite drivers.

Pipelines:

When looking at the Marvel Comics numbers, this was one of the most diverse sections when comparing it to favorite drivers. This group leaned more towards the middle of the pack rather than our top three.

That being said Max and Lewis were our most popular contenders here. 36/93 Marvel Comics fans liked Max and 33/93 Marvel Comics fans liked Lewis.

I personally feel like this makes a ton of sense.

Looking at this section now, my labels could be a bit confusing. Chances are if you are a fan of a person in the Minecraft RPF category they also probably fit into both the YouTuber RPF and Streamer RPF categories. I made these separate from each other based on if I felt they had enough history and content to overpower other names who would fall in there. Phandom has so much history at this point that if I bunched it in with Youtuber RPF it would kind of feel disrespectful (and I wasn't even involved in it). Anyways, I decided to focus on Minecraft RPF for the pipeline in this section just because I felt like I could analyze it more closely even though it isn't the top spot.

Pipelines:

So my hypothesis for this section was that the fans of Minecraft RPF would generally be more attracted to the younger people on the grid, like 2019 rookies and onward.

Something stood out very quickly and it was the amount of Logan and Oscar fans. The numbers aren't staggering or anything, but there's certainly a pipeline here.

23/62 Logan fans like Minecraft RPF and 49/197 Oscar fans liked Minecraft RPF. As a pairing, 16 Minecraft RPF fans liked both. Now this probably doesn't seem like a lot, but if you compare it with Lando's numbers (because Lando and Oscar is Oscar's most popular pairing) its kinda clear there's something different here. Only 18/88 Lando fans were previously Minecraft RPF fans.

Ok, so previously in the Marvel Comics section the two most popular people were Max and Lewis. Here things are a bit different though Max and Lewis and still popular.

The standouts here this time are Alex and Yuki! 41/88 Alex fans liked the MCU and 46/73 Yuki fans liked the MCU.

It is also worth mentioning that 93/167 Oscar fans liked the MCU too.

I am kind of curious on how people interact with fandom spaces with some of these artists, but those are questions for another time.

Although I did not poll anything to do with shipping, I am going to talk about it here. It did not shock me that Charles and Max were popular here.

53/143 Charles fans were One Direction fans and 51/130 Max fans were One Direction fans too.

I am glad that you all seem to love these shows because that makes total sense since F1 is also TV.

Ok so I don't know much about Sherlock. When trying to find a pipeline here I just took a lot of numbers from each driver and waited for something to stick.

Imagine my shock when the standout was Fernando! 23/71 Fernando fans also chose Sherlock. Thats about 32%. Middle aged men for the win.

I was practically flabbergasted by this section because it was immediately apparent that Hamilton fans go crazy for Oscar.

Out of the 91 people that said they were Hamilton fans... 74 of them also said they liked Oscar.

I do not know why this is. I thought George and Lewis were gonna be the stand outs here and they weren't. I'm a little bit confused, but at least you all sorta agree on something.

Though I forgot to add some of my own favorite games sadly. There's also probably a lot more pipelines here than I realize and I am sorry that I can't look into more of them.

I knew coming in that Detroit: Become Human was going to be popular though I was surprised it beat out Five Night's At Freddy's.

I was not surprised though it find that George and Lewis were very popular amongst these fans.

For this section I looked at the average number of drivers picked during the first question. I predicted that the older you were, the less drivers you would say were your favorite and I was correct.

Below 18: 4.07 range: 1-10

18-22: 3.44 range: 1-9

23-25: 3.38 range: 1-13

26-29: 3.42 range: 1-10

30-35: 3.26 range: 1-6

36+: 2.53 range: 1-5

Time Watching F1:

I did the same analysis here as I did with the age question, so the longer you've been watching the less drivers you would say were your favorite. I was surprised by the amount of people who have been watching for less than a year (not that there's anything wrong with that). Also "My Whole Life" is a separate category because I figure it is at least 15+ and it has the added idea that F1 might be more than just a hobby to you. Finally, the orange and red are 10+(10 votes) and 15+ years (9 votes).

Do you think it's okay for me to write for TWST even though I don't play the game?

Personally, I don’t think anyone ever “needs” to play a game in order to enjoy it and create for it. Sometimes you can just observe art from a distance and appreciate it, or you like hearing about how it brings joy to people you know. Maybe you like the aesthetic of it but can’t really see yourself getting heavily involved with it. Perhaps you don’t like gacha games so you can’t be motivated to engage with the mechanics. There are many possible avenues.

In the case of a game like Twisted Wonderland, there may be accessibility reasons why you don’t play since the game is only in English and Japanese—and even then, maybe your country doesn’t have a server to host it. In fact, I know there are many people who are TWST fans yet only read translations or watch videos about it without having played the game themselves. Maybe they found the manga or the light novel first. Whenever the anime comes out, people might discover TWST through that. We have to consider these aspects and be more open-minded about what constitutes as a “fan” rather than gatekeeping the label of “fan” to only those who play tie game for no discernible reason. What defines someone as a fan or not isn’t the labels other people put on you—you are the one that decides what you want to label yourself, and whether you are a fan or not.

I believe that also extends to content creation in fandom spaces. No one’s stopping you from making fan art or writing fanfic (or whatever it may be) just because you don’t play the game, and nor should you need anyone’s thumbs-up to do so. When you think that you do, you’re only imposing an arbitrary limit and holding yourself back. You have to be confident in deciding what you want to make without worrying how others might perceive you for it.

Now, that being said 💦 I don’t mean to scold anyone for asking me questions, but I feel that I again need to stress this: I am an internet stranger. My opinion or approval/disapproval shouldn’t hold any more weight than the next person’s. You should not put too much value in the advice of an internet stranger either. You shouldn’t care whether or not I think something is okay for you to do. The only person who can give you “permission” is you!

I understand that maybe people may feel uncertain about themselves or are looking for reassurance from a third party, but I do not feel I am the right place to go to for these kinds of things. Even though I answer in earnest, questions of this nature make me feel like I’m being put on the spot and pressured to provide timely comfort.

I don’t feel comfortable continuously being asked for very personalized advice like this; asks like this push on the boundary and start getting into uncomfortable territory for me. I’m here to talk about Disney anime pretty boys. I’m not here to be a fandom counselor 😅 Does that make sense?

Okay headcanon time.

So for ages I’ve always wondered whether magic can be inherited or not. So like if your parents are powerful wizards chances are you’ll be one too. So the main reason I've always thought this is due to the fact that whenever you see a powerful character and are then introduced to a family members of theirs, that family member is as powerful or more so.

And I have examples. But I am gonna put a read more cause this is gonna get looooooong.

There's also gonna be spoilers beyond this point if you haven't watched the anime or read the manga.

So first off Laxus is a powerful wizard, he's an s-class wizard at a young age. While you could always say that that is due to his lacrima, I've always believed him to have the potential for powerful magic but because he was born sickly he could never fully achieve it. But then you look at his family and both his dad and grandfather are both powerful wizards. I mean Makarov is a wizard saint, not many get more powerful than that. Even looking back further, while we don't see the full extent of Yuri's magic in action he does appear to be somewhat powerful from the get go.

Then we move onto Cana. Guildarts is considered the most powerful member of Fairytail, the top ranked S-class mage who was even allowed to try a 100 years quest. Cana has shown multiple times how powerful she is, she's the only person in the guild whos been able to wield fairy glitter.

Then we have Erza, now from the very beginning Erza is shown to be an absolute powerhouse, from meeting her it would be easy to assume that she gained her power through grit and determination. However, we are then introduced to one Irene Belserion. Now Irene is cast as a pretty badass person from the start so you can definitely see where Erza gets parts of her personality from. Magically speaking Irene is said to be one of the top members of the spriggan twelve. Now when we first meet a member of the spriggan twelve we meet Brandish who is most likely one of the less powerful ones, but still her magic is described as overwhelming, so Irene's magic must be even more so.

Now Lucy is an interesting case, while Layla did in fact open (and likely closed) the eclipse gate on her own when it required both Lucy and Yukino to do so later, she (if I remember correctly) also had a pre-existing condition which made her magic less powerful? That being said it's shown that she was already a remarkable wizard and even held the respect of Aquarius who seems to have taken her death very hard. Going further back though we also have Anna Heartfilia, Lucy's ancestor. She's described as being one of the most powerful celestial spirit mage of all time.

Now finally while we don't ever learn about their parents or see if either was canonically powerful. I feel it's safe to assume that at least one of their parents was quite powerful. Natsu and Zeref are revealed to be canonically siblings. Now before we get this reveal you would assume that Zeref is only that powerful because of how long he's been alive for and has accumulated that power over the centuries. But we can then assume that he was already pretty powerful at a young age, I imagine had things worked out he would've used the eclipse gate himself instead of teaming up with Anna. We also see that Natsu is already one of Fairytail's powerhouses (honestly why he's not S-class yet is something I'll never understand). So I can imagine that the both of them had the potential for being powerful wizards long before either of them cast their first spell.

Whew. okay I'm done, I'm sorry this got so long, it's been bugging me for so long. I do want to stress that this may not be 100% accurate but this is just my own interpretation and headcanon.

☆General: I'm Melanie, but you could just call me Mel. 23 y/o, Leo, She/Her. I moved from shift tok to here! I want to find fellow shifters and continue my journey! I don't really have shifting friends so I figured here was a good place to find some mutuals :) ☆Shifting journey: The first time I shifted was in 2022 (or 2023, it was winter i don't remember which month) and it was by accident. Otherwise I haven't really been inspired to have anything different. ☆Hobbies: I love to draw! I haven't really began my dive into digital art (it's on my to do list) so I mainly stick to sketching and occasionally painting. I'm also trying to learn Japanese right now which is quite hard but I love it. I could already speak Italian and English and they're soooo different. I've also struggled with a history of depression and to be candid, my home life sucks. I've done a lot of maturing and mental work on myself so I'm a lot better now, so my reason is not necessarily for an "escape" but like yeah. I don't like wording it that way because I feel as though it's a bit dangerous to just completely toss your CR aside and rely on shifting as a end all be all fix, but if that's not the case then escape away :) I've been on the other end of that journey before so I'm speaking on behalf of my experience, but that's just what has worked for me and my mental health personally. Trigun Book Club: my thoughts on trigun volume 1

i've only read the whole manga once, so this is my first re-read. I've already watched the 90's anime so I'm pretty familiar with this early part of the story. but once I get to trimax I'll probably understand the story a lot better this time around, which i am excited for!

the story starts out with a bang!

Meister + Weapons Head canons TWST EDITION ✨

I heard the opening to the intro of the anime in 2024 and was like "omg" I used to be so hyper fixated (but never read the manga, I think I might this year) But now of recently I am highly fixated onto Twisted Wonderland! And I wanted to combine the two and give out my personal head canons of the characters either being meisters or weapons if they went to DWMA than NRC!

Heartslabyul

Riddle - Riddle would definitely be a meister! With being the dorm leader and all, he was definitely raised to be a fitted meister and the best of the academy! He would definitely probably be the type to try and follow in his mother's steps due to his past with her. But even though he trips up, he doesn't give up.

Trey - Trey seems like he would be a weapon. Just the vibes he gives off, he seems like the type who would try and support his meister (this case being Riddle) to the best of his ability. Trey weapons form would definitely be some sort of scythe. Something fitting for Riddle to hold of course.

Ace - 100% a weapon. I just want to see someone use him to whack someone. And he would be used as some sort of sword. There ain't much I can add onto this about him.

Deuce - He would at first be a rebel and refuse to become a meister. But knowing how his mother was worried about him, he promised to become the best meister that there is and maybe become one to protect his mother. He studies hard to become the best and will train whenever he can get his weapon to train with him! (Looking at you Ace!)

Cater - He is the only one in his family that is probably a weapon. But he masked himself as a meister so others couldn't tell about it.

Savanaclaw

Leona - He is a meister, his whole family is meisters in the Kingscholar family. Their weapons are paid well for serving them. He isn't one who will fight duels, but he does when it is important and when needed.

Ruggie - I'll keep this one brief! Ruggie would be a weapon, he tries to say he was a meister right ar orientation but Leona was quick to call his bluff. He is Leona's weapon for the money, and also, didn't we all play twst? We know how close the two are so I have no doubt that Ruggie would be Leona's weapon.

Jack - He would be some type of meister. He watched Leona's spelldrive tournament and if, a hard IF, Leona ended up competing (maybe against Malleus if anything) It would have sparked Jack to be like Leona. But after chapter 2 , he will work on being a meister that is good for him.

Octavinelle

Since the three are pretty much paired up together! I'm going to keep both Azul and the twins into this one to make it easy on me to type!

Azul would be a meister and the twins would be weapons.

I wanted to keep the thought of the meme "mafia fishes" in thoughts when thinking of them. That being said, I can only imagine Jade and Floyd being some type of weapons of guns!

Why do I think this? Come on!

Death the Kid and the Thompson's sisters!? The trio of them and the trio for Twst should be fitting!

Scarabia

Kalim - Kalim would be a meister, but it isn't something he would take seriously, but that doesn't mean he doesn't know when to get serious. In all honesty, he might be the one you wouldn't want to cross due to the fact that his family is full of meisters and the Viper family is filled with weapons.

Jamil - Unfortunately for him, he would still have to serve Kalim even after moving away from home and into the school. He is willing to fulfill his duties in his family to protect the Al-Asim's (Kalim's family) son and will go as far to using his own body. Also, he is the only yelling at Kalim if he doesn't take using him seriously! I would like to see him be some sort of magic staff!

Pomefiore

Vil - Meister. Hands down, he would be so beautiful while fighting. He will move so gracefully! I actually had a hard time thinking about this, because I didn't want to make it obvious about him being a meister and Rook a weapon! But also, he will definitely try and model Epel into being a meister like him, while also fully supporting his style of using his weapon.

Rook - He is Vil's weapon like said before. I also like to think before they realized they were each other's meister and weapon, when Rook was in Savanaclsw he wanted to try and be used by Vil first hand. He transformed into a weapon best suited for Vil, I am not so sure what kind of weapon he would be and what would Vil use.

Epel - He fights back so hard when Vil tries to model him to be like him. He is thankful for the few sons but he wishes to fight in his own style. He does well, but he hasn't figured out his fighting form yet which causes him to trip up often.

Ignihyde

So like what I did for Octavinelle, I am going to put Idia and Ortno together.

It all started when they were younger and found out that Idia was a meister and his weapon being Ortho, they were best of friends, best brothers ever! More than just bonding over video games... However, it led to an incident where Ortho died while the two fought the monsters who had escaped after trying to sneak out.

With guilt, Idia made O. R. T. H. O, an AI weapon that is like the robot we see of Ortho now, his body can transform without magic, and while he still feels the connection of being his brother's weapon, Idia has guilt about what happened that day, and refuses to ever use O. R. T. H. O to fight his battles ever again.

It causes damage for them being meister / weapon but it's a bit of an angst idea for thinking of them!

Diasomnia

Malleus - A meister, one of the strongest from his family. He trained under Lilia for many reasons. He uses both Silver and Sebek to keep his guards close

Sebek and Silver - Both being guards for Malleus, they are his weapons too to protect the young prince. Both sworn to even use their bodies off needed to protect him.

Lilia - A meister, he fought in a war and definitely used Baul to become victorious!

Bonus: I wouldn't get descriptive here! I am just going to say if I think the Staff, RSA, and Rollo are weapons and meisters

Nightmares and cuddles

Self-Aware! Osamu Dazai x GN!Reader x Self-Aware! Oda Sakunosuke

Description: You had a nightmare. Thankfully, two of your new friends are here to help.

Set after BSD cast get into your world.

Cuddle Fluff. Hurt/comfort

Warning: Soft Yandere, if you squint. OOC. English is my second language.

You wake up in the middle of the night.

Your heart is pounding, your breath is heavy, and your hair is wet with sweat.

A nightmare.

You rarely have them. And, to tell the truth, the previous nightmares you had wasn't so vivid. Funny enough, you can't tell, what the nightmare was about. But you are sure, that it was awful.

Maybe, you had too many emotional turmoils for the last couple of days.

First, apparently, BSD characters from your BSD Mayoi game were self-aware. And were self-aware for a long time, (since you finished watching anime and start reading manga/light novels). Few days ago they finally managed to break free and got into your world.

Second, the BSD gang are totally adoring you. Now, you have a bunch of new friends. And, in some cases, new relatives (you are pretty sure, Hirotsu and Melville have adopted you as their new grandchild).

Third, Fitzgerald is planning to buy a new home for you, the one, that can contain all of you. You tried to protect, but Fitzgerald won't listen.

"You are Our Guiding Light, it's the least we can do for you. And don't worry about the money, I have it covered." Fitzgerald grinned and look at you with soft eyes.

Forth, characters have heard you talking about them. About been good people, about treasuring them. You remember tears in Kunikida's eyes, when he told you, how your words help him find his strength again. You remember Atsushi's warm hug, when he thanked you for been sympathetic. There were many thanks and tears when they arrived.

You sit up on your bed. You were still shaking. You felt thirsty and decide to go to the kitchen and have a glass of water.

And, of course, Oda Sakunosuke and Dazai Osamu were sitting in the kitchen, having a conversation with hushed voices. They were wearing casual clothes, not their iconic cannon attire.

Most part of the BSD gang, currently, were back in the app. Yes, they were going back and forth, but didn't stay here to sleep. Because there is no way so many people will fit in your apartment. But, Fukuchi insisted, that, at least two of the characters will stay there, with you.

"Because, Little Guiding Light, you need protection. This world is also dangerous. It doesn't matter, if there are no abilities" Fukuchi chuckled and gently pet your head.

Characters changed every night. At first, you were guarded by Atsushi and Akutagawa, then - by Teruko and Tachihara. Today, Dazai and Oda were your guards.

Oda noticed your presence and smile at you. His smile was apologetic.

"Hey, [Y/N], did we wake you up?"

You shake your head and yawn.

"No. I had a nightmare. I will drink some water and go back to sleep."

Oda and Dazai looked concerned. Dazai rushes to your side and carefully led you to the table. Dazai force you to sit down, while Oda takes a glass from the cupboard and fill it with water. Dazai put his hands on your shoulders. Oda came closer with full glass in his arms.

Dazai rubs your shoulders: "A nightmare? Are you alright? What was it about?"

You take the glass from Oda, smile at him gratefully, and take a sip. Then you answered.

"I am fine, maybe a little shaken up. I can't tell, what the nightmare was about. I am sure it was something nasty, but I can't recall any details."

Dazai hums. You continue drinking water. Both Oda and Dazai are silent. The silence was comfortable. You finish your glass of water and put it in the sink. Oda finally spoke:

"Are you sure, you are alright?"

You thought for a moment. Actually, no. You weren't. You sighed:

"No. I am afraid to fall asleep again. I don't want to have nightmares again."

Dazai instantly jump to your side and, after giving you a side hug, proclaims: "Then Odasaku and I will protect you in your sleep!"

You looked at Dazai, puzzled. Oda also doesn't seem to understand, what Dazai want to do. Dazai looked at you. His brown eyes were soft and shined with care and tenderness.

"[Y/N], do you want to cuddle with Oda and I tonight?"

You are sure, that, if Dazai didn't hold you in his arms, you would fall. You. Cuddling with Dazai Osamu and Oda Sakunosuke. BSD Fans would eat you and your hat for that chance. And here you are, Dazai himself offers you to be in a middle of cuddle sandwich. You quickly glanced at Oda. He doesn't seem to be bothered by that idea. After Oda noticed your glance, he chuckled: "I am fine with this. [Y/N], you decide."

...

You also are fine with this idea.

"I would like to cuddle with you two tonight"

Dazai's grin became bigger. He almost crushed you in his embrace. Dazai start leading you to your bed. Oda was following after you two.

When you get in your room, Dazai, after removing his shoes, lay down on the far end of your bed and, after turning in your direction, patted the mattress next to him.

"Come here, Guiding Light, you will be warm and cozy.

You were as red as a tomato. You slowly lay down on your bed. Dazai after noticing that you won't scoot closer to him, let out a quiet laugh and hug you himself.

You feel his chest makes contact with your back. Dazai snakes an arm around your midsection. He squeezes you tightly against him and snickers:

"Oda, your turn"

The sheets rumble over your and Dazai's bodies, and your mattress sags gently as Oda climbs aboard it and cover the three of you with a blanket.

Oda scoots closer to Dazai and you. Your head was laying on his chest, he shakes an arm around your shoulders. Dazai buried his face in the back of your neck. You feel Oda's breath on your hair.

"[Y/N], don't worry. Relax, everything is alright"

You lengthen your limbs fully and release tension. You feel warm. You feel safe.

Oda and Dazai cuddle you closer. Oda kissed you on the forehead and Dazai kissed you on the cheek. They said in unison.

"Goodnight, [Y/N]"

You blush and whisper: "Good night, guys"

Soon all of you fell asleep. There were no more nightmares that night.

I watched the first eight episodes of the BLEACH anime!!! Originally I wanted to do some sort of thing where I do a post per each episode and highlight my favorite screengrab from it, but then I realized I'd rather watch the episodes relaxed without stressing over rewinding to specific frames and all that...so you'll just get some scattered images instead!

Its a really interesting adaptation if only because it adds so many small little things seemingly for no reason - and now that I've already read the manga those little creative liberties just stick out as fascinating more than they do annoying. Like, they technically let us see inside Hueco Mundo several times by following the perspective of Hollows, and that'll make the eventual trip there a lot more satisfying!

But then there's some dumb stuff like how they add a complete no-name Soul Reaper to hunt down Rukia before even Renji and Byakuya are sent out. Like on the one hand - it helps solve a weird logic issue as to why a CAPTAIN would leave their post to do this pretty basic basic by implying that they tried someone lesser before and it didnt work....buuuuut at the same time there's something undeniably powerful about Ichigo realizing just how far above him the rest of Soul Society is when he encounters Renji and Byakuya for the first time

I was initially kind of put off by how brightly colored the anime is, as I often am with anime adaptations - I feel like there's an understated beauty in black-and-white Manga like One Piece that its own anime adaptation kind of ruins. But I'm surprised by how quickly I warmed up to it here, they play with color in a lot of really interesting ways given the weekly-anime-in-the-2000s context of ir all, be it clouding the world around the characters in darkness to convey they're in spirit form or by making backgrounds super abstract and bubbly like in the Orihime Leek Spin scene to convey when its sillytime

Last thing - I REALLY like the dub acting. Yeah it sometimes has that stilted delivery from trying to cram everything into a small timeframe, but it makes a lot of really natural flowing changes to dialogue (That guy vouldn't tell a stethoscope from a telephone!) althewhile being...actually funny??? This is the only clip I have on hand because it genuinely made me laugh so hard I had to save it for later

Overall - SUPER excited to see what'll happen when fights start ramping up once the Soul Society arc starts. The first eight episodes have been surprisingly breezily paced (possibly thanks to the new content they added helping it from feeling arbitrarily stretched out?) and I'm lookin forward to hearing my favs' voices for the first time heheheee

If it's not too much trouble, could I ask about some anime you'd recommend? I have temporary access to Crunchyroll and I finished the thing I originally wanted to watch but I don't want to be "waste" the remaining time I have, and I remember a lot of times seeing you talk about an anime you were enjoying and going "when I can I should watch that", but now that I can I can't remember most of them outside of like, Bofuri and Bocchi the Rock.

Bocchi is so good, though!

EDIT: Shangri-La Frontier, which I originally didn’t mention because I just had a big post on it.

Spy X Family is really good, though there are episodes that are more slice of life than action (which isn’t a bad thing, I just know it catches some off-guard, and not everyone likes it). Also, there’s a lot of it with over 30 episodes.

The very high-production value Apothecary Diaries is fun mixed with some pretty heavy subject matters.

Frieren is good, though be prepared for emotional punches to the face.

Skip and Loafer is an exceptionally chill anime with very emotionally real characters. As much as I like it, though, I sometimes forget it exists (but am happy when I have that “oh yeah!” moment.

Campfire Cooking In Another World is a relaxing fun one, though a not-insignificant amount of run time is cooking and eating (it’s cute and chill, but still).

If looking for absolute absurdity, Nichijou is an option.

Life With An Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated As A Total Fantasy Knockout starts a bit slow in episode one, but is hilarious by episode two.

Mob Psycho is a fascinating comedy anime.

The first season of My Next Life As A Villainess is one of my favorites, though that’s partly due to timing. I started reading the manga when I really, REALLY needed a pick-me-up, and the protagonist is basically one of my brain cells now.

Dungeon Meshi: Thoughts and Impressions

I've been thinking about how quickly I consume media these days and I feel like I've been desperately binging shows in order to keep up with the times. I hope this will be a series where I can thoughtfully absorb everything from a show that made a lasting impression on me and have something to come back to and review. This is more for my own fun and journal keeping - all thoughts are my own musings and can change over time. If there's something you'd like to add, please do! I'd love to hear your impressions as well.

Overall Impression

What a well thought out and interwoven story with fairly interesting characters and a great hook/ mystery! I think rescuing Falin as a plot device works really well because the heart of the story is about relationships and everything around it caters to the journey and development of these characters and how they work together.

Cons/ Issues

I still don't really buy the world building, the dungeon idea seems a bit weak, but it's anime, so some plot holes are forgivable. The beginning felt weak, it was hard to buy into the stakes of losing Falin without knowing the characters but thankfully the exposition was rather quick (1/4 of an episode it felt like) which is good. The dragon fight scene seemed a bit off. I felt like the shots were framed too close - probably to emphasize chaos and keep the red dragon mysterious until the final reveal but with my tunnel vision, it felt messy.

Ok one big con is the character tropes. They sort of make up for it in the middle, but it was enough to make me want to stop watching. I've seen these tropes a million times now and am TIRED of it. And there's so much good stuff out there that it's so easy to dismiss shows these days.

Pros/ Love

CHARACTERS! I was surprised to see more depth in the characters and I love how the mysterious were presented depending on the encounters. Thought each scenario were expertly crafted and it didn't feel too forced.

FOOD! Besides the glorious food p*rn, I was definitely taken aback by the later recipes. I didn't expect food to be woven in during some scenarios, but when it was, I was very pleasantly surprised!

At first I thought Laios was kind of unrealistic, but then I remembered that my ornithology prof was passionate about eating every single bird in the world at least once and I was like... this is real. There are DEFINITELY people like this. +1 for the representation!

On representation, I like the potential LGBTQ representation and was surprised the show took that route. The show itself is coded to be super straight so I wasn't expecting it. This is a con, but it does feel a bit like queer baiting or for the male gaze unfortunately.

Later action scenes were good/ interesting.

The pacing between comedy and darkness was well done, Trigger never fails with good comedic timing.

Shots economy is good, I feel like there are not a lot of unmotivated, extra shots, and talking/ dialog/ exposition were all well done. The used the same layout for the exposition scenes from the manga and the added animation punched it up and mode those scenes interesting. - **I'd like to study these scenes in particular more.**

Final thoughts

I think this is a great show to study how you can make a slice of life comedy and weave in some darker themes without overwhelming the audience. A lot of shows usually stay in their chosen genre, or lean very heavily on the dark/ edgy themes. I like how this show isn't reliant on solid world building, but focuses on creative storytelling to keep audiences coming back for more. Overall, the design/ setting feels basic, but it is the creativity behind the idea of monster food and how well thought out every dish is that makes this show shine. The manga and show have pretty good pacing and doesn't linger too long on mysterious or draw things out, dropping enough tidbits and lore to keep you watching/ reading.

TL;DR I think this is one of the better amine series I've seen this year and I love that this show feels refreshing with very creative storytelling. The concept is feels surprisingly unique and original but you do have to commit to a few episodes before it kicks in.

**I only read a few chapters of the manga so my opinion is not 100% and may change if I have time to read more.

I like the idea of her not really using make-up, so her knife-sharp eyeliner is completely natural.

+ //The reason why she doesn't have glasses in any of her 'growing up' pictures (in the collage w/ Fuyuhiko at the end of chapter 2) is because she assumed her blurry vision was a her problem, and just learned to get around it. Fuyuhiko only realises after she makes an off-handed comment about everything in her near-sight being blurry.

Pretty good cook. Her best ability in it is being resourceful (and her knife skills, but that's fairly obvious.)

Is fairly good at any skill that a servant would be required to do, really (e.g. cleaning)

+Very good baker, and loves baking (the latter is semi-canon according to the description of her on her 'relationships with the others' page in that one book (linked)). Part of this is because of Fuyuhiko's sweet tooth, and she simply enjoys making him happy

Multilingual (the greatest gift I can give to any of my favs. More specifically, she probably knows at least Japanese, Mandarin and English)

Watched a movie about the dog Hachiko once. Cried so hard that she refused to ever watch it again, and has been wary of media with animals in them which are sad ever since.

+I know this is fairly common but big tea enjoyer. Particularly black tea. By extension, enjoys matcha a lot.

+Favourite dessert is cha dango (matcha flavoured dango)

//I think I lean towards her being actually able to enjoy lactose. Mainly because I think she'd really enjoy the fluffy Japanese cheesecake (and watching Fuyuhiko go through the silly emotional turmoil of 'I want to see her happy but I REALLY FUCKING HATE MILK' would be funny)

+Terrible at any video game that isn't a fighting game / isn't kinda similar to the real deal (like the shooter games at arcades that give you a fake gun)

my most obscure headcanon: would enjoy Gábor Szabó's 1968 album Bacchinal. Her favourite song on it would be 'Theme from "Valley of the Dolls"'

post-sim (aka angstier):

++Due to the stress of her execution in the simulation (it's mentioned in optional dialogue that her entire body was destroyed in her execution), she loses a lot of coordination for a period of time after she leaves the simulation, and she never quite returns to her pre-sim self physically. (It's tough for her to come to terms for at first.)

+Also gets phantom pains all over her body for the same reason

+Has scars all over her body due to her time as a Remnant (namely because she had to fight more powerful enemies to protect Fuyuhiko, and because she fought more recklessly)

++Finds comfort in water due to her execution (she could have never of run from the Monokuma samurai and escaped into it because of social pressures, but maybe, just maybe if she had, could she had been spared..?)

+Feels guilty for being raised to be so physically apathetic to gore and violence (i.e. no automatic physical response of fear, anxiety, hesitation, etc. to it), partially because it makes her feel like less of a human, and partially because she's afraid of what she could do without any physical responses to hold her back.
