Hbomberguy was the reason rwby suffered.
His shit video, and his hatred for monty oum, which was easy to find if you did research.
But being a proud rwby hater, you no doubt fail at that.
Bro I am literally a RWBY fan and have been since the first teaser came out. I have been a Roosterteeth fan for 20 years and I cannot understate how much that company has influenced the person I am today. You need to learn how to look at the things you love with a critical eye. Like things can be very important to you and still have massive flaws. I genuinely don't know how anyone can be a Roosterteeth fan in 2024 without grasping that concept. The entire point of the Hbomb video is that he loved RT and Monty and BECAUSE OF THAT LOVE he was disappointed that RWBY didn't live up to its potential. Like that's the title of the video.
#i don't really know what this ask is trying to say im gonna be honest man#i was gonna write a whole blurb about how much the show fascinates me as a piece of media#but something tells me you're not big on reading comprehension so im gonna save my metaphorical breath i think#also its objectively still an extremely successful franchise so idk what youre talking about#if it doesnt survive the shutdown then like. the only thing that killed it was warner bros.

An overview is more than ok!
Hmmmm...I'm trying to think what my process even looks like, hahah. idk if this will even make any sense but here we go
I'm mostly interested in "intimacy" I guess? i think thats usually easier to see in blurbs and one shots than, like, longer things like "Education" or that multi chapter fic. But I genuinely find people really interesting and the idea of a close romantic relationship where both people's flaws, passions, insecurities, all come out is extremely fascinating to me, lmao. A lot of the time it's two people trying to love each other but in completely different ways, and misunderstandings inevitably happen.
Not to get all existential on y'all but like isn't it insane that we are all just...trapped in our own bodies and consciousness. and that love is the only way that we can escape that and exist with/for/alongside someone else? Idk i think thats just so cool. Matty says it more eloquently than me in "Inside Your Mind." it's basically that stuff....
BECAUSE im interested in intimacy I'll usually try to start out with a specific, concrete example. Like, if someone asks for an angst concept where an argument happens, or if im trying to write the next installment of Education, I try not to think about it in terms of genre like "ok time to write angst." instead, I try to think "if an argument were to happen between Matty and someone he loves, what would it be about? what kinds of things would he be unwilling to budge on."
so, like, that last piece I wrote where they argue about the new show etc. That's how that one happened. I couldn't imagine him being legitimately upset about like dinner or laundry or an outing, not enough to start a fight because of it. Idk...he just doesn't strike me as the kind of person who cares THAT MUCH about simple stuff. BUT he does care A WHOLEEE LOT about every tiny detail of his show and chooses everything for a specific reason and with a specific goal in mind. So, if someone were to have an issue with his art, of course it would become an argument, cuz his work is a reflection of himself. And since he's been under fire this year about the limits of irony and some fans online (even here on tumblr, ive legit gotten asks about this) have been like "ugh i hope he doesn't do the whole acting thing again" I imagine thats a legit concern that he has to deal with. So, the more specific the idea is, the more real it feels/ in line with who I think Matty might be, the better it is going to end up.
This is where I struggle the most: im not that great at detail, description, emotion etc. but i find dialogue natural to write. So, usually, my starting point is dialogue. Like, once I had the idea for what I wanted the fight to be about, I imagined Matty in that situation and how he would be a bit sarcastic and say that thing about how hes imagining someone asking him about the new show where he says "oh yeah, its going great! i mean, my missus hates it, but at least Rolling Stone thought it was alright" or whatever. And I start out with that and build the scene around that kind of interaction.
Same with longer plots and stories. Like, I had the idea for Education after we were all talking about inexperienced!Y/N and Matty being patient and teaching her. So thats half the plot. the other half is, again, what I imagine Matty would be like. He's had a few slutty phases recently. And if it were a friend/ non-gf situation im sure he'd be dumb enough (hes a man after all, bless him) to like continue sleeping around. and ive been doing a thing, though im not sure its clear enough for y'all to have noticed lmao, where like, whatever "lesson" he teaches her in bed has a common theme with the plot of the chapter.
Like, for example, the next one is gonna be called "Mistakes are how we learn" or some shit. no spoilers but, thats gonna be the theme of what happens both IN and OUT of the bedroom, so. But again, the plot sorts itself out around the moments that I imagine in their dynamic. Matty's super gentle, physically affectionate, etc. So, while it's not quite the same as romantic intimacy, he is the type to look out for his friends. and we've all seen how comfortable he is with kissing/hugging etc. So, I try to work with that and then expand it to work with what the plot of the chapter is.
I will say that I used to think that getting his "englishness" down to a T would be important cuz i didn't wanna make him sound american. though I have to say, sometimes that shit ends up being so forced and unnatural cuz *i* dont talk like that hahahaha. So, I've stopped trying. It's a hard balance to walk cuz you don't want him to sound like hes from fuckin texas or whatever. but you also dont wanna sound like hes a 56 year old newscaster at the BBC's 6pm news. you know? wish i had better advice on that one.
does any of this make any sense? idk. might be total bullshit. not sure that im the most organized person haha sorryyyy

I was wondering if you're still doing asks could I maybe get an AoT one?? If you're not busy! 👉👈 I've read some of your asks and they're just beautiful!
So I'm like a loud introvert. Basically I come from a loud family with some HoH members which basically means I'm really bad at fixing the volume of my.voice because I don't hear the difference. It's a whole thing. But I am also nervous shy bean, please don't look at me I know I just laughed really loudly it's not my fault lol. It has helped me to appreciate the quiet and respect other's need for it
But once you get to know me I'd like to say I'm kind and perceptive. My love language is acts of service and just....being there and getting them what they need. It's a great feeling to help the people I love. I will admit I swear like a sailor but I'm also Irish and that's just how we talk? But I know it's not the same everywhere some countries take cussing really seriously whereas to me the f word is a describing word. But I'm really good at working with people and crowds and I've spent years studying politics and geography and working on using my loud ass self for good.
I love traveling and seeing things and sharing them with the people closest too me. Art, food, music and knowledge of there's an adventure to be had I'm on it and ready to go.... As long as we plan everything to a tee. None of that "oh we'll wing it" I will toss you out of the car if you come at me with that. It always ends in disaster.
I am of average height maybe a little short, chubby but funky and I have a soft baby face and bit eyes. My eyes are my favourite part of myself. As my cheeks give my an eye smile that my friends say make me look real soft and approachable. I sneeze like Panpan from we bare bears and I wish it was just something I put on because my friends keel over every time and it's not on purpose I just sound like that!
I love books, the smell of winter mornings, tea, coffee, dogs and the feeling of sunshine on my skin. I'm the mom friend despite being a shy bean and hope to comfort people with my presence even if I can be a bit intense and bad tempered at times.
I hope that's enough. It's so weird writing about yourself lol. I genuinely can't wait to see what you think! Bye!
Hi love! There’s more under the cut, I figured I would make this a read more because of that.
I would pair you with Connie Springer!
Connie is a loud extrovert so if you ever laugh too hard and people start to stare he will do anything in his power to make people focus on him instead of you. Whether that be laughing loudly too or raising his voice. He doesn’t mind if you talk loud either. He’s also fine with the quiet but will probably fill in the silence.
Connie is also perceptive. His love language is quality time as well as words of affirmation. If he notices you’re down he’ll try to make you laugh or be there for you when you need it. He’ll shower you in compliments too. He adores your kindness and because of that he finds you to be a wonderful person to hang out around. He loves the good vibes you give off. If he was ever down and you did something for him, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself. He’d be all flustered but would smile. Connie would find you swearing like a sailor fascinating and he would probably get used to it while everybody else is still a little taken aback. He’s astounded at how well you deal with people and he’ll tell you as much. He talks about you to his friends a lot and brags about how cool you are, especially to Jean.
He would love hearing stories about your travels and would love to go with you. At first he might not be so on board with planning but once you two start to do it, he loves it. He’ll show you a place you can visit all excited and he actually finds it fun to plan things with you.
He loves everything about you and will call you adorable even if you deny it. The pentanes he gives you are sunshine, babe, baby, dear and sunflower. Your eyes were what drew him to you in the first place, that and the fact that you were super approachable and he felt comfortable around you. He loves your sneeze and will laugh every time you do. He would make it his ring tone.
Connie is in awe of you and just how compassionate you are. He watches you take care of your friends and vows that he’ll be the one to take care of you. He loves dogs too and would ask if the two of you could get one. He finds your presence comforting and wants to provide the same feeling for you.
You didn’t put any songs down so I just did songs that I thought would fit the vibe of your relationship, if you want me to change anything lmk! You can find the playlist here.

3. Rebel Beat by The Goo Goo Dolls
4. Tightrope by Walk the Moon
5. Out of My League by Fitz and The Tantrums
Mini blurb:
Connie always thought you were beautiful from your soft baby face to your eyes so filled with wonder. He thought you were beautiful in the little things you did too, like how you would take care of the people closest to you. Your laugh caused butterflies to soar in his stomach. He’d find himself laughing beside you without a care in the world. He found you beautiful in the way you sneezed and how cute it was, he found you beautiful when you would leave him meals if you realized that he forgot to eat. He found you beautiful when you were planning for a trip and even if you were angry he still found you beautiful. But now, watching you stand in the Sun with that carefree smile on your face he couldn’t believe how lucky he was.
“I love you,” the words were sudden causing you to stare at him with wide eyes. It was the first time he said it, but you could tell he was serious. You’d never seen him like that before, he was so certain. In a life full of uncertainty he realized the one thing he was certain about.
“I love you,” he said, louder than before. You walked forward until the two of you were face to face and intertwined your hands.
“I love you too.”

Review: There's Magic Between Us
by Jillian Maria
A diehard city girl, 16-year-old Lydia Barnes is reluctant to spend a week in her grandma’s small town. But hidden beneath Fairbrooke’s exterior of shoddy diners and empty farms, there’s a forest that calls to her. In it, she meets Eden: blunt, focused, and fascinating. She claims to be hunting fae treasure, and while Lydia laughs it off at first, it quickly becomes obvious that Eden’s not joking—magic is real. Lydia joins the treasure hunt, thrilled by all the things it offers her. Things like endless places in the forest to explore and a friendship with Eden that threatens to blossom into something more. But even as she throws herself into her new adventure, some questions linger. Why did her mom keep magic a secret? Why do most of the townspeople act like the forest is evil? It seems that, as much as Lydia would like to pretend otherwise, not everything in Fairbrooke is as bright and easy as a new crush…
I received a digital copy of the book in exchange for a review.
And here it is! Nearly a month late because I’m bad at time :)
But hey, that means the book is already out and you can go get it! Wee!
Also, here’s my review of Jillian Maria’s other book, The Songbird’s Refrain.
This review contains no spoilers aside from stuff that you can probably assume from the blurb, such as the existence of the fae and magic. Duh. Anyway, onward!
So, I’m gonna be straight with you fam, not that I can be anything else, but to spare any potential author their feelings and maybe prevent them from reading the review, not that that would happen, I hope:
This book was not for me.
Now, that doesn’t mean it was bad. Far from it, I think it’s pretty much exactly what it’s advertised as and anyone who thinks they might enjoy it will defo enjoy it. It’s a polished work of art that’s professionally written and presented, on par with and often above a lot of traditionally published stuff, and if you want a fluffy magical sapphic YA romance, this is for you.
But it wasn’t for me. Or, at least, I don’t think I’m the target audience. I enjoyed reading it, don’t get me wrong, but my enjoyment was always lukewarm, like I wasn’t quite getting the full experience. And that’s more on me than the book.
I won’t structure this review the way I usually do, mainly because I feel like my problems with the book are all intertwined and stem from the same source, which is ... I’m not sure? Genre? Target audience? Intent? All of the above?
The writing still carries the same sort of easy-to-read style that was present in The Songbird’s Refrain, though the main characters’ voices are obviously vastly different.
Overall, I liked the writing on a technical level, and I’m once again impressed with the author’s ability to avoid swear words, though Lydia is a bit more of a potty-mouth than Elizabeth was.
Lydia has a clear personality and voice, and one of my problems is that maybe it was a little too clear at times.
I know how that sounds, but it could be a side-effect of the book’s target audience being teens. Both Lydia and Eden have extremely defined and spelled-out character arcs. Lydia is too reckless and spontaneous and needs to chill, Eden is too chill and calculating and needs to let loose. A fine concept in theory, a good mirroring for a romance, but here, its execution feels a bit like a checklist? It’s basically spelled out for us how one influences the other, the character acknowledge their own flaws and at the end note how the other has changed them for the better, rounded them out. It didn’t feel very natural, and I thought it would’ve been better to leave that stuff implied since it was already pretty obvious.
It doesn’t help that both Lydia and Eden are far, far too mature for any sixteen-year-old I’ve ever met. They both recognize and acknowledge their feelings as irrational and apologize exactly for what they’ve done wrong, which sure, maybe is feel-good and a positive influence upon a teen reading this, but for me just felt a bit unrealistic. My favorite part of the book was when Lydia and Eden had a fight and Lydia stomped off all pissy and Eden refused to apologize later. It showed them being teens, individuals, idiots, flawed people who are growing up and learning to deal with their emotions. And then it’s somewhat undercut by them both having perfect apologies afterward where they know exactly what they did wrong just based on intuition? Like, complete with here’s what I did wrong and why that was bad of me.” Idk, maybe JM was a better person as a teen than I was.
I really can’t say a lot about the other characters. The heroes of the story were all defined and had motivations and flaws of their own, while the antagonists were either a faceless mob, a faeceless mob (get it?), or just a dude who shows up in the last chapters and then is immediately dealt with. Compared to the antagonists in TSR, these guys felt a little underwhelming. They were set up from earlier in the story, of course, but their inclusion still felt a bit last-minute instead of a natural progression and integration into the fabric of the story.
And, again, I get it. This isn’t about the villains or that conflict. This is about the love story and the familial bonds and everything else comes after. Which is fine, but not something I personally found very compelling.
I think my favorite character was Eden, because she was cranky and awkward and flawed to a degree that felt right. She made mistakes but had her reasons, she was unlikable at times, and she felt grief and remorse.
I also liked Lydia’s mother, who, despite being in fear or pain for a lot of her on-page presence, still loved her daughter fiercely. She felt a lot like a real parent, even if her and Lydia’s relationship was a bit too saccharine for me to fully get behind.
Now let’s talk about the plot, or rather, the pacing, which was my other big problem with the book. The first third is very slow, my dudes. It may have contributed to why it took me so long to finish the book, a lot of it is just Lydia faffing about. The book is very light on magic stuff in the beginning, and it would’ve been fine if it didn’t do a whole 180 at the end and turned into a low-fantasy menacing mystery, complete with the vague threat of a human-fae war. I would’ve liked to have seen less Lydia and Eden faffing about and more of that magic plot, and while I understand that the focus of the first third was character-building, it still could’ve been done with a more balanced spread of plot vs character interaction.
But here’s where my personal tastes cloud my judgment. I’m not a young teen, so maybe I don’t see the value in more compassionate and understanding teen characters who could serve as role models. I’m not a WLW, so maybe I don’t see the value in two girls faffing about looking for a magic stick in the forest. I’m not a fluff-enjoyer (whatever the proper word for that is), so maybe the universally loving and positive characters just don’t land as well for me.
I can’t say that I hated this book, because I didn’t. In fact, I really enjoyed the latter half of it. I thought the fae were cool and interesting and felt disappointed there weren’t more of them in the story. Despite my grumbling, I do still appreciate what the book tried to do with the comfortable and loving family relationships between the characters and their relatives. I can see how this could help other readers and make them feel seen or perhaps soothe them when they don’t have the same thing in their lives.
I can see what this book was going for. I respect it, and I respect the work and effort and love put into it. It oozes from every word like a warm, sweet sludge.
But I’m covered in goop now. And my hands are all sticky.
This wasn’t for me. But maybe it can be for you. If you want to read a sweet, magical and well-written gay YA romance, this is for you. It was specifically made for you, made for someone who craves this but doesn’t see enough of it. This book is important for what it represents and for what it is. And I hope with all my heart you love it as much as it deserves to be loved, as much as it loves you for reading it.

The Third Book I Read In the Dark: You mean there's more and this time it gets GAY! Sign me the F*** UP!
Sovereign by April Daniels
As Day 1 of my time in the dark ages was coming to a close so did my second library book and even though it was late and I should probably go to bed (and by bed I mean the couch in the living room closest to the fireplace because sweet sweet crackling warmth) I couldn’t help but at least crack open the sequel to the phenomenal book I’d just finished. I was set to have wisdom tooth surgery the next day bright and early but with the state of the world I had doubts it would happen so, you know...YOLO.
Now, I know what people say about sequels, never get your hopes up too high because usually they will let you down, but I was so pleasantly surprised to know that the curse of bad sequels passed over Sovereign without leaving its mark. I loved this just as much if not more than the first book. If my review of the first book is anything to go off of this is gonna be a mess so let’s get this love fest on the road!
Unicorn Rating:
Blurb: Danny is finding her feet as Dreadnought but things are far from easy especially with curve balls coming from every angle. Things are getting harder, darker, and maybe a bit...gayer!
Disclaimer: I will try my best to not spoil anything from the book, but my book loving rambles may give more away than a traditional review. Here we go! Ramble time!
Review:
Diving right into this I genuinely liked this book just as much if not a bit more than the first book. Now there are a few reasons for that, one is that we don’t have to deal with Danny’s parents much, my feelings on them were made very clear in my last review. The second was that, although we were introduced to a few new characters, we were mainly focused on characters we already knew and just got to know them more so it did what I think all sequels should do; build on what you already know while adding just enough new stuff to keep you coming back for more.
The plot of this second book is a multi-layered beast that I had a blast peeling back piece by piece, while also not being too difficult to follow. It is for sure a much darker plot than the first book, but as someone who’s second book looks to be pretty dark and emotionally...well, ouch, I can really get down with this kind of character heavy story that really depends on the reader being invested in the struggles of the characters more than an overly complicated plot. The twist also still got me there at the end. Comeuppances sure are fun to see. Okay, I behaved for a whole two paragraphs and talked about the plot now to really let ‘er rip!
Oh boy! Oh jeeze! How do I want to do this!?! Ummm spin the wheel-o-characters and see where it stops? Sure! That's a solid way to write coherent and professional reviews (I know logically I should start with Danny but I’m saving her and a particular western themed vigilante till last for GAY reasons)!
The Wheel has chosen and I am going to talk about Karen first! So, Karen, this was a character that when she first showed up I was utterly confused and then got so freaking excited so freaking fast when I figured out who she might be! I literally closed the book and went, “That ain’t a backpack!” Now I am gonna try and be extra careful about how I word this next part to try and not spoil anything, but please someone ask me questions about it so I can gush about it more in a spoiler filled response! So, if you read my Dreadnought review I genuinely liked Valkyrja and I was so sad we weren’t going to get to see more of her after the ending of the last book, but then Karen quite literally broke on in to make my day. She honestly fascinated me. The struggle she is going through reminds me so much of something from one of my favorite animated shows, RWBY, that has been an ongoing struggle since Volume 4 for the character of Oscar. (I won’t say anymore cause I don’t want to spoil the book or the show, you should read the book and watch the show, they are both awesome and then come into my ask box and we can talk about how interesting it is). She was a character that I felt deeply for because of her struggle, but also was conflicted on because of reasons that I can’t get into but man...just Karen, why, Karen why?
So next up we have more from the local literal wizard, Charlie, who is as sleep deprived and as eclectic as ever. He is a good example of what I meant when I said I was glad we were able to spend more time with characters we already knew. He was instrumental in the plot even if he was mostly a background player, but I cared about him when the crew got into big fights because I already knew him and knew that he wasn’t a fighter. He was a friend in a world where there weren’t a ton of those to be had.
Oooo let’s do another newcomer, Kinetiq, who admittedly has a bit of beef with our girl. Danny has been getting a lot of press for being “the first transgender superhero” which is not at all accurate she is just the first pretty white superhero with Legion-sized support and funding behind her and Kinetiq never lets her forget it. They are a non-binary Iranian-American superhero that has been capin’ way longer than Danny has but hasn’t gotten nearly the recognition. They are such a cool character and really rounds out the team of superpowered teens.
Let’s dig into our villains next. I still hate Graywytch with every fiber of my being and the burning passion of a thousand suns, but that isn’t ever gonna change, so we can move on before I have another melt down like last time. We wouldn’t want that now would we? Maybe you do. I don’t tell you how to feel. So now we can talk about Sovereign (I know we got his civilian name in the book but I have forgotten it because I read these books in 2 ½ days and I have the memory of a brain damaged goldfish so we’ll just go with that), he was a character that we met him and I immediately went “Sooo, he’s the bad guy right?” Everything he said just oozed “entitled asshole” and “I’m more important than you.” And I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing. Now I do like to have some more complications in my villains, some grayness and not all black and white, but in a story so hinged on Danny struggling internally with so much I think having a really deep complicated villain would have been too much to handle at the same time.
I’ve contained this as long as I can and I can’t contains it no more…*runs to the top of the nearest mountain* I LOVE DOC IMPOSSIBLE!!! I know in my last review I said she gave me kookie grandma character vibes even though she didn’t really fit into either one of those categories, but she still just fits like a puzzles piece into a hole in my heart of characters I love. The reveal at the end of Dreadnought that she was an android only made me love her more and then to see how much she is struggling with what Utopia used her body to do against her will just makes me want to give her all my love and support even more (Maybe I just have a thing for characters breaking away from controlling abusers and fully accepting and owning themselves for who they truly are *cough* Yasha from Critical Role *cough*). And no spoilers but the ending scene with Danny and her made me squeal/tear up with happy tears.
So now on to the main event or well...the main character and her grapple handed revolver wielding bandana wearing paramore. Now I’ve alluded to it in the other character opinions but Danny, well, Danny goes through it in this book. I remember while I was reading it thinking how tired I was, part of that was probably because I had been reading literally non-stop for two days but also I think I was really picking up on Danny’s fatigue in that it just never ended. As soon as one trial or tribulation ended she had little or no time to rest before she had to force herself back to her feet and say, “Alright, whatcha got?” Danny also goes to some pretty dark places, and as someone with some experience with PTSD it was really compelling to read a character who was working through those kinds of thoughts and...not handling it well. She was rash and angry and lashing out, she was far from the perfect picture of composure her publicist/lawyer wanted her to be, that’s for sure. Danny is yet again a fascinating character to follow along in her journey because she has so much depth and is so compelling because she is so flawed.
Now Danny’s dynamic with Calamity/Sarah this book was just...so good. Now do I think they are perfect and amazing and gonna go off and have a perfect little capin’ life together...honestly, no. But that is why I love them so much. I was convinced Sarah had the budding start of feelings for Danny all the way back in the first book but Danny had SO MUCH going on she didn’t notice and Sarah wasn’t gonna push the issue and probably didn’t even really know what she was feeling herself. I am a connoisseur of gay media after all, but the hints were there. When nothing came of it I didn’t feel let down because it wouldn’t have made since in the story of the first book especially with Sarah losing her arm and everything else. Then this book came around and turned everything up a notch. Danny is realizing she is soooo much gayer for Calamity than she thought, and Calamity/Sarah is really being the only person who isn’t letting Danny slide when it comes to the self destructive behavior she has been kind of reveling in which I am so here for. In relationships, good relationships, you have to be able to call each other out, call bull shit on one another, without it getting personal. We see that in real time develop between Sarah and Danny. We also see that Danny really depends on Calamity and her wit and know how in battle situations because, lets face it, Danny is the muscle, but Calamity is the brains. The fact they are able to work together so well is just a testament to the fact I think they will have a good relationship going forward. Maybe not all sunshine and roses all the time, because that isn’t realistic, but they will support each other and protect each other in the way that matters and counts. And I am a soft bitch when it comes to stuff like that.
My final thoughts on this is that I really liked the way, after such a hard and trudging journey (I say that with as much love and admiration as I can), we were able to have an ending that radiated such softness, such hope for a future that wouldn’t be full of so much pain and struggle. I needed that ending. I needed that exhale to be able to just settle with Danny, and Sarah, and Doc, and the rest of the crew after the holy hell storm they had to go through in this book. I know there is supposed to be a third book in the Nemesis series but I would be okay with it ending here. Sure, there are some unanswered questions plot-wise, but I am happy with where our characters landed and by now y’all know me, I’m in it for those sweet sweet character driven stories so I’m good. That doesn’t mean I won’t read the third one when it comes out, but I’m in no rush. My reading list is currently lording over me with a baseball bat and looking mighty threatening so I should probably start on that. *nervous sweating increases*
Queer Wrap-up: Let’s jump right into this tally. Of course, we have our protagonist Danny who is living her best life, well not really but it’s a figure of speech, as a transwoman and trying to shine a light on trans superheroes and doing an ‘eh’ job at it but at least she is trying. Now we did get to see another side of Danny’s identity in the fact she is not only trans but also a lesbian. Now this wasn’t hidden in the first book, but it wasn’t the focus by a long shot, and I gushed a tad in my review about Danny’s irrefutably adorable gay panic at meeting her celebrity crush, Valkryja, but other than that and a few lines here or there the focus is definitely on Danny’s identity as a transwoman in the first book but this one brings her lesbian identity out more and I loved to see how the two mixed and how there was never any questioning there. Danny is a woman who is attracted to woman, so she is a lesbian...easy peasy. Love that for her. Now onto what moved this from a four unicorn rating for the last book to five for this one. We get the lovely romance between Sarah and Danny confirming that Sarah falls somewhere on the spectrum, though she never defines herself in any way other than loving Danny, and we know her and Charlie have dated in the past so we can assume she is also attracted to men. She could be bisexual, pansexual, we don’t know and she never says and honestly it doesn’t matter. I’m just gonna sit in my happy little queer bubble and watch her and Danny be cute. We also have the additional rep of Kinetiq, the kick ass nonbinary superhero that joins the team. They give us additional gender identity rep outside of just Danny and they are snarky and awesome to boot.
So yeah this more than earns that last unicorn by building and expanding on what the first book started and I also believe for the amazing rep and deep dive into the mind of someone being trans and just living their life as super powered and fantastical as it maybe, which is something I cannot personally speak to, I think this earns a place in the Sparkly Unicorn Hall of Gay! I swear this won’t only be YA super hero series, remember Raven: Pirate Princess is in there too!

Dreadnought Review
So this book took slightly longer than the others to read mainly because I had to go to the next town over to maybe have wisdom tooth surgery. Well, that didn’t happen cause the whole state was one day out of an ice storm and was still walking bow legged but hey I got to eat something that wasn’t reheated soup for the first time in 2 days. French fries have never tasted so good! Once I dug into this book though it flew by like the rest. Remember that I found all three of these books in the library I work at so check the shelves of the ones near you, you could be surprised what they have on their shelves just waiting to be discovered. Trust me, I’m a lesbrarian.
But now I was sat most of the way through Day 2 and I was officially out of library books! Whatever would I do? Find out next time on...The Books I Read In the Dark!

Summer Games Inspired Blurbs
So I’m a little emotionally drained and I really wanna do this bc I feel like it’s a cool idea so I’m doing it now but I can’t promise when I’m going to get these blurbs up they’ll likely just be posted as normal blurbs are but whatever. This is also 100% a way for me to distract myself from Halloween as a thing going on atm and to try and prevent people requesting Halloween blurbs
Basically I’ve been binging the Smosh Summer (and Winter) Games series and I decided that I wanted to do blurbs inspired by them
I’m saying right now just to make it clear though - while this is inspired by Smosh and written with those people that I write for in mind, these prompts and AUs still are open for any of the normal people I write for as well. I mean I want to write for Ben Hardy facing the Apocalypse bc let’s be real, that’s a pretty sick AU, right??
Anyway, there are four AUs that I’ll be writing, each inspired by one of the Smosh Summer Games series
Smosh Summer Games Camp - Camp Counsilor!AU (one that I already write for and love but no one ever requests 🤷🏼♀️)
Smosh Summer Games Wild West - Wild West!AU (never done this before but I’m psyched)
Smosh Summer Games We Blew It - Circus!AU (someone originally replied to my post questioning what I should do for this one and they said carnival which reminded me of circus which is an AU I ADORE and have never written for on this account but man I’m excited for this one)
Smosh Summer Games Apocalypse- Apocalypse!AU (GUYS THIS IS THE SICKEST AU OKAY LIKE YES PLEASE SEND SOME IN FOR THIS, SURVIVING THE ZOMBIE APOCALYSE?!?! YES PLEASE)
Smosh Winter Games - it’s not an AU but a lovely, lovely nonny suggested writing blurbs where they’re snowed into the Winter Games cabin and I’m 100% here for that idea so we’re subbing that in now :)
If you guys can think of an AU inspired by either OG Summer Games then lmk and I’ll add it to this list and those requests will be welcome as well
Anyway! Here are the prompts for these blurb requests though as always, they’re just here for inspiration, you don’t have to use them if you don’t want to 😊
Also some of the prompts are taken from shows I like/books I like and some are also from the Smosh videos so bear in mind but most are just cute fluffy ones I like so… enjoy!! Please also send in some Shaymien x reader blurbs for me to write!!!
Angst:
“Did you think I would run into your arms?”
“Mistakes are easily made. Apologies aren’t”
“It’s not working out. We’re not working out.”
“I’m… I’m leaving… for good. I’ll… see you around…”
“Why are you doing this?”
“How do you expect me to trust you after this?”
“What do you want me to say?”
“I should have known you were too good to be true”
“I don’t want to hear another excuse”
“You were meant to protect me from the monsters not become one of them”
“Don’t try and tell me that I faked anything about our relationship”
“I could punch you right now”
“Why are you lying to me?”
“Is that blood?” “No?”
“Do you even love me anymore?”
“Stop trying to fix me!”
“I hate that I still love you”
“Just because you don’t love me doesn’t mean no one can”
“No one should be as reliant on another person as I am on you”
“You can’t just run away from your problems”
Fluff:
“I was born to fall in love with you again.”
“Please hold me. It’s been a day.”
“My hand’s made to fit in yours”
“I couldn’t imagine my future without you now that I have you.”
“Sometimes I get scared about how much I love you”
“I’ll keep you warm”
“I won’t let anyone hurt you you’re safe with me”
“You’ve shown me what love can feel like”
“I can’t imagine this world without you”
“Dance with me”
“I’m home”
“You look like you could use a hug.”
“Don’t be scared - I’m right here”
“You’re so adorable”
“Go with me?” “Only if I can hold your hand”
“Have you seen my hoodie?” “Nooo.” “You’re wearing it, aren’t you?”
“Are you flirting with me?” “You’re only noticing now?”
“I’m too sober for this.” “You don’t even drink.” “Maybe I should start.”
“I’m never letting you go again”
“With your love I’m a better person”
Miscelaneous:
“There’s four things you can be in life: sober, tipsy, drunk and hungover. Tipsy is the only one that you’re not crying”
“Can you please get him to adress his fascination with sulphuric acid?”
“We’re very Hufflepuff here, are you sure you wouldn’t be more comfortable in Slytherin?”
“What’s the best way to make friends?” “Tell a woman you love her and her saying ‘I think we’re better off as friends’”
“Do you trust me?”
“Wow, that is a ridiculously big watermelon. I love it.”
“See - sometimes being a huge nerd comes in handy”
“Sometimes I wonder which of us you’re actually dating”
*takes shirt off* “am I smuggling dynamite in my pants?”
“What’s that on your shorts?” “Oh - it’s called excitement”
“We’ve been over this man - we’ll leave it on the course but I WILL fuck your whole family up and I’m not even joking”
“Full disclosure I could just be an arsehole”
“Who cares about what they think?”
“I don’t want to hear your excuse. You can’t just give me wet-willies.”
"I’m not pretty and I don’t have any bullets”
“You’re not really going to eat all those sweets are you?”
“Just when I was thinking you couldn’t get any less romantic”
“The ladies love a man who’s good with kids”
“Where am I going? Crazy. Wanna come?”
“Welcome back. Now fucking help me”
Sad:
“All I wanted was a happy ending”
“I didn’t get soaked wet through walking to your house for you to say no to pizza. I have beer too. I know you’re sad, so let me in.”
“I feel like I died alongside her/him”
“I am so busy keeping my head above water that I scarcely know who I am, much less who anyone else is”
“Never tell anyone anything because the moment you do you start missing everyone”
“Who hurt you?”
“There’s nothing wrong with you”
“Why are you crying?”
“I don’t deserve love - especially not yours”
“Sometimes I wonder what’s more inbalanced - the chemicals in my head or the distribution of our chores”
“Just smile, I really need to see you smile right now.”
“Have I mentioned how much I hate Halloween?”
“Wake up! Please wake up!”
“Why are you awake?”
“Stop saying you’re okay when you’re clearly not”
“Are you hurt?” “No.” “Then why are there bruises all over your face?”
“If you don’t hug me right now I might just fall apart”
“You can’t keep this all inside”
“What if one day I wake up and you don’t?”
“I can love you enough for the both of us”
Hella cliche situation prompts

Stealing their shirt
Kissing in the rain

Oh no! Don't worry about it at all! I totally understand :) I'm honestly just glad you took off with the Gyuhao prompt I gave you
GyuHao:
*Eastern School of Wizardry and Necromancy: The only wizardryschool open to the magic community that still teaches necromancy and the darkarts. The school doesn’t believe in splitting its students by traits orambitions because they believe in producing well rounded wizards and magicpractitioners. Instead, they divide their learning into five years that allstudents must rotate and complete.
Year 1 – Azure Dragon of the East
The focus is understanding the source of their magic andwhere their place in the universe is. It is a year of new beginnings andgrowth.
Lee Chan is a first year with a great amount of ambitionand drive. He’s not sure what his interest are but everything he’s seen so far is fascinating.
Year 2 – Vermillion Bird of the South
The focus is on physia, manipulating yourself in thephysical realm without changing the rules of the natural world. So they learnsomething similar to the Western idea of apparition, but stepping is slightlydifferent in the sense you need to encounter all the physical obstacles insteadof jumping from point A to B.
Boo Seungkwan is a second year who’s struggling a little tomaneuver himself through the world because he instinctively manipulates natures’laws to accommodate him.
Chwe Vernon Hansol is a second year who excels in mostphysical manipulation except for those that deal with water. Thankfully hisbest friend pretty much a mermaid in terms of comfort with underwater physia.
Year 3 – White Tiger of the West
Unlike their second year, the focus is now all on themystic arts, introspecting and calling on the magic the lies in their souls. It’scalled many things throughout many magical societies—some common ones the bledinto non-magic society are chakaraand chi. This is also the year theysummon a familiar, and they are not allowed to continue onto the next yearwithout one.
Lee Seokmin is a third year who managed to summon his familiarpretty early on and gained his second name Deokyeom. He’s been best friendswith Mingyu since their first year and he helps the other out a lot.
Kim Mingyu is a third year who had trouble mastering physica buthis inability to control his massive amounts of soul energy was more of aconcern for the school. So they continued him to the third year but he’sstruggling with his 3rd year courses.
Year 4 – Black Tortoise of the North
The focus is understanding and enforcing the laws of theuniverse. After three years of trying to subvert it, now you must understandhow to reinforce the laws so the world can operate in the way it was built. Apart of being a magic practitioner is to participate in the magical communityand protect it as needed—this communal responsibility is instilled in each andevery student.
Jeon Wonwoo is a fourth year student with a vastunderstanding of the various practices around the world. He is well read butoften has trouble applying his knowledge to practice. He’s one of the certifiedresearch librarians in their school who is able to connect with databasesaround the world.
Wen Junhui is a fourth year student who excels physicabut has a troublesome relationship with his familiar. He has strong ties in theChinese magical community and pretty much has a job coming out of school in thegovernment.
Lee Jihoon is a fourth year student who excelled both atphysica and soul magic. The school has never seen someone as multi-talented as Jihoonwith a strong sense of justice, and, well, they might be recommending someoneto the 17th Court—this would be a great honor as the 18th Court isthe highest in Hell.
Kwon Soonyoung is a fourth year student who is the only master level physica user in theiryear. Most students earn that recognition in their final year but Soonyoung canfit himself into any natural environment and optimize himself there without causingeven a breeze.
Year 5 – Yellow Dragon of the Center
The focus is to bring everything you’ve learned throughoutthe years—of physica, of mystic arts, of the universe’s laws, and now apply it to themortal realm and how a magical practitioner must fit into a world of mostlynon-magical humans. It’s an ever changing curriculum that targets the place ofmagic in the rest of the world, and these changes are brought by the fifthyear student teachers.
Choi Seungcheol is a final year student who teaches mainlythird years in summoning familiars. He guides students to find their soul’score and seek a familiar who would grow with the student.
Yoon Jeonghan is a final year student who mainly leadsfourth year student in their community service. He chose this sector so hecould do the least amount of work. He has a soft spot for Chan and decideshalfway through the year to teach basic first year courses.
Hong Jisoo is a final year student who teaches specializedcourses in Western magical practices and often brings in dangerous creaturesfor show and tell! He is one of few students in ESWN who practices Westernmagic as well and has a pet owl to communicate with his friends at otherschools.
Minghao: Prince of Hell and honestly that’s all we reallyknow.
WonHao:
SOOO uh, i have pt 1 done but it’s gonna be a two shot so would you rather have pt 1 uploaded and then wait like…5 more months before pt 2? Or get all of it together?
Whelp, that was it for Lizspo time! Hahah, as you can see the GyuHao became…a whole universe of its own .__. (I should have just stuck to a harry potter AU but alas) Thanks for your understanding my Cheolhao annonie ^^
