Some people have already mentioned it in their posts: but can we all acknowledge how Jungle!Tails (mangey) and Pirate!Knuckles (Dread) sorta went mad because they are unable to fulfill their roles or are doing it wrong??

Mangey went absolutely animal and feral, literally the most feral even compared to Gnarly

he's a tails that lives in a world without any kind of technology except primitive weapons and building. literallt also the only tails of the 3 shatterspaces that has no gadgets or gizmos

he cannot fulfill any kind of role similar to the other tails and hes just... creachure.

Now, Captain Knuckles the dread. he was absolutely normal at the start, very gentle and nice for a knuckles—but relatively normal... however in the flashbacks and when he returns to pirating he goes absolutely unhinged.

he becomes way more obsessed with the shard than Rouge usually is with the master emerald, or any other gem for that fact, he literally fixates so hard in the gem its... scary [cool]

and well... being a pirate that pillages and steals treasures is basically the opposite of being the guardian of a treasure wanted by most people that know of it

neither of them are fulfilling their "correct" roles in their worlds and that made them... go absolutely wrong themselves

Actually, now that I think about it, is there a word for when your gender doesn't really change you just have...more or less of it at given times? Like gender identity is static but gender intensity is subject to change. Gender saturation slider. Is that a thing?

Sometimes I really feel womanness. If I'm getting dressed up and want to do a ton of makeup and jewelry and whatnot, anything that looks "girly". Yes I know makeup and jewelry aren't inherently "for" women again don't @ me, I am not immune to the social construct. Or if I manage to do something hard by myself and go full Rosie the Riveter like hell YES I am a WOMAN and I can do ANYTHING and start stomping around my house for no reason.

But most of the time I don't relate to gender in any real way. It's probably the ADHD but I don't really feel like I exist when no one else is around. Which is wild because I often prefer that no one else be around. Don't wanna unpack what that says about me. But like if I found out somehow that I'm just a floating brain with eyeballs whenever I'm not being perceived, I'd believe it. Shroedinger's Person. I only have two options, hyperaware of my body while it's being perceived due to internalized fatphobia and self esteem issues OR completely unaware that my physical form exists on this plane unless I'm in pain somehow.

On a femininity scale of 1-10, one being a completely genderless feral creachure and ten being what society generally considers a normal woman, I'm sitting at about a 2 most of the time.

Not genderless like an angel or an alien. Genderless like a chair.

after a lot of introspection and research (this is going to sound facetious but I mean it) I've settled on what my gender is: I don't mind that I'm a woman, but I have no attachment to femininity that means anything to me and I don't particularly want or need my woman-ness to be involved when people are identifying who I am. Like I get that I'm biologically female, I enjoy some of the social trappings of femininity like makeup and dresses, and people have to use SOME pronoun for me so like yeah. Most people are gonna clock me as female so she/her is fine. If I don't care regardless, why not go with the one 98% of people are gonna assume in the first place.

I tried he/him to see how that felt and I hate it. Gross. Doesn't feel good on me. I'm not saying he/hims are gross don't fucking @ me. They/them is fine I guess too but that's not the one most people are gonna default to unless you tell them it's what you go by. But if a particularly liberal person were to see me in public and just assume by the purple hair and piercings that I'm nonbinary, I wouldn't be upset about they.

So yeah. "Don't relate to or identify with anything really about masculinity or maleness but otherwise don't really care how my gender is perceived", whatever gender that is.

so i don't know if you've heard of him before but Zote the Mighty, a knight of great renown, right? Okay. So you see, this little bastard is a menace to society. A real piece of shit. Everybody hates this guy. He's an egotistical angry little bitchboy getting himself into perilous situations for no good reason. A pathetic wet rag of a man, you could say. What a wacky dude. But regardless. You wanna know something even wackier? So he's this thing called a nosk. What's a nosk? A freaky creepy thing living in the down deep dark deep down that can steal the appearances of other insects and mimic them so to lure them in as prey. It's nuts. They're also a bunch of ruthless, feral creachures that live together but only barely. They like. tend to kill each other and rip off one another's limbs or whatever. Gnarly. So Zote, right? Zote's one'a these things, but he's in big denial about it. He ran away from home and decided to disguise himself as a vessel so to fit in with society because THIS guy wants to be a knight. And he's gonna be the best knight you've ever seen. So good that everyone's heard of him before, totally, and that's why he has to remind everyone of his name every two minutes. He's going on this whole adventure to become a knight and it totally goes so well. And what I'm saying is he's definitely not secretly depressed or dealing with egregious amounts of trauma, nor is any of it repressed to hell and back. He's totally doing just fine and does NOT need extensive therapy. In fact he's so well put together that you envy how mentally healthy he is. He's practicing PMA like every day. His ego is a totally healthy one and not a side effect of his delusions of grandeur that control just about everything he says to people around him. Remember when I was saying he's a real piece of shit and everybody hates him? Well actually that was a lie. in fact he's the best guy to ever live, and everyone loves him. They sing songs about him yknow? Write stories of his fantastic feats throughout history. He's a totally selfless and strong dude. He could defeat any villain in an instant. He's a valiant knight who does his best to protect the people of the village and nothing you can do will stop him. He's undefeatable. He's got unshakeable confidence. And he's not a nosk, actually. I don't know who told you he was a nosk, but they were wrong. That's against the precepts, by the way: lying. What are the precepts? Well you see there's 57 of them, they're part of the Mighty Zote's moral code or whatever. One of them is Always Speak the Truth. Which he absolutely does all the time, always, as is commanded of him by his own precepts. Of which he follows all the time and never strays away from. Ever. ...Regardless it's really wrong to spread lies. You should watch out for when other people do that. Which is another precept - did you know that? Learn to Detect Lies. You've really sucked at detecting lies thus far, by the way. Bet you thought I was telling the truth this whole time. I've lied countless times, because Wyrm knows I cannot actually follow my own precepts to save my life, and damn, what a pathetic excuse of a knight I am. I don't know what I'm even doing anymore.
