Twenty Questions for Fic Writers

@willowmckinley tagged me!

1. How many works do you have on ao3? 74! Man it really doesn't feel like I've written that much.

2. What's your total ao3 word count? 227,559!

3. What fandoms do you write for? Justified and wrestling most often. Then one offs for things that made me crazy.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? 1) Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot (MCU, Starker). 2) Every Animal Has Rules (Nope, Angel/OJ) 3) I Try To Picture Me Without You (Moon Knight, Steven/Marc) 4) Six Years (MCU, Starker) 5) Fine By Me (Ted Lasso, Isaac/Colin)

It's hilarious to me that that 35 of my fics are Justified and not a single one cracks the top 5.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to! But currently my inbox on Ao3 is 400 deep so uh. I'm working on it! Sometimes I get overwhelmed, sometimes I just don't know what to say in response. But I greatly appreciate every comment I get!

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? So I personally think it's It Matters Where You Live. It's MCD and grief and I went Through It writing it. But if I go with the emotional trauma I've caused on the server, it's Buttermilk.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I had to think really hard about this, because mostly I write smut and sadness. But if I had to pick one, it's probably Every Animal Has Rules because it leaves it on a note of hope and happiness.

8. Do you get hate on fics? So...not directly on Ao3? I've gotten a deluge of 'kill yourself' messages on tumblr in the past, but it mostly just made me more nonchalant about the gross shit I write. But yeah thankfully no mean comments.

9. Do you write smut? Hell yeah I do.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? I enjoy them immensely! Haven't written a lot. I think the only one on Ao3 is And Having Been Set Free which is Justified/Supernatural. Because I am a cliche.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I am privileged I guess because I was not even aware that was a thing.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Someone asked once I think? Probably on an MCU fic.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope! But I share the 'Out My Back Door' series with @itookyoudown!

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Oh lord. I cannot do all time. Recency bias my beloved. Currently enjoying Sanji/Luffy/Zoro. Long time loves are Malec, Alfie/Tommy and Givenson.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? A Malec fic based very, very loosely on Crazy Rich Asians. I had big plans and an outline and the final season just took the winds right out of my sails.

16. What are your writing strengths? Oh boy, I am not good at saying nice things about myself. My visuals, maybe? I'd like to think it's my ability to portray emotion, but who knows.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? Finishing things. Being hyper sensitive to things most people wouldn't even call criticism. If I write a gift fic (which whoo boy learned my lesson on that one) and it doesn't get the exact range of response I want, it really kicks me in the emotional balls. Which isn't fair to me or anybody else. So I'm really working on 1) finishing things before I post any. And 2) writing for myself so I don't end up disappointed.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I am monolingual. I might slip a curse word in another language but beyond that, I'll go with the tried and true italics.

19. First fandom you wrote for? Oh Jesus. Uh...Dragon Ball Z, I think. Self insert fic at like 12. Yikes. I printed it on fancy parchment paper too.

20. Favorite fic you've written? And Everything Went Black - Wrestling fic, MoxEddie. To this day it's probably my favorite thing I've written. (Stefon voice: It's got everything!) Demon possession, weird visuals, dreams as metaphors and two dudes in love. Nowhere near a popular thing but my beloved.

The “What we are” series. I wanted to explore more of the boys getting to know one another. How they learned to get along and truly function.

What we see: Steven can’t forget the events of Cairo. More importantly he can’t forget the blackouts. Marc and Steven look for the mysterious third who wants nothing more than to keep working from the shadows. Also contains Layla helping her trash boys out.

What we do: Marc, Steven, and Jake are learning to live together. Old habits are hard to break and old lies are even harder to remove. Jake struggles to find his place.

What we Believe: The discovery that Khonshu is back hits hard for a system that is still trying to learn to trust one another, let alone live with one another. Some old wounds get ripped open and Trust is a word filled with pain.

Complications and Solutions: Layla had been giving the boys some personal space after Jake was discovered. She had hoped that they would have time to sort out some of the more complicated aspects of learning to share head-space with someone. Now that they have had a little time to sort out some of the more urgently complicated details, Layla decides it is her turn to meet Jake. Things don't go as well as she hoped. Who knew that relationships could get so complicated? Taking place a few months after Cairo and about a month after Jake has made himself known.

What It Feels Like: No one said it would be easy to be in a relationship with Marc/Jake/Steven. Does Layla have regrets? How does she cope when her relationships struggle with their mental health? Heavily introspective moments from Layla's POV. Discussions on D.I.D, brief discussion on Autistic issues, and mentions of PTSD.

Front Stuck: Steven plans for a check up. Jake and Marc have issues with these plans. Sometimes you have to do what you don't want to do and then have to deal with it later. Sometimes you feel like all you do is fuck up and you just need a reminder of how useful you are.

Making Space: What was it like when the system was new and young? Three souls circling one another and trying to make sense of the world around them.

Nothing and Everything: Certain times of the year are harder than others. This is the first year where they have all been present to face the memories of all the trauma. How can they come together when they each have their own traumas to face?

Moon’s Light: The first night of Hanukkah. After everything they've been through, the hardest war has always been of the past. Lighting a candle shouldn’t be this hard. A very short gen fic for Comics Moon Knight universe.

Introspection: Moon Knight Comic universe. A study of the Interpersonal relationships between Marc, Jake, Steven, Mr. Knight, and Moon Knight. They don't always get along. Sometimes they have no choice but to hold things together while one of them seems determined to take them apart.

A Safe Place: Jake has one happy place. His pride and joy and comfort. When things go south, this is what he turns to.Marc has started to rely on Jake to be his solid force. The unshakable rock that keeps them all stable.Steven knows better. They are all delicately balanced on a thin wire.What happens when one of them takes a spill?

I’m not taking requests for full fics but happy to write blurbs if you’re willing to be patient ❤️

Fics are written with a female reader (AFAB) most of the time. If it can be read as gender neutral, I’ll signpost this. I do not take requests for other gender identities. This is because I do not want to misrepresent. I fully support the trans and Nb community but I am a cisgender woman and I don’t want to run the risk of accidentally misrepresenting and causing hurt.

I try not give the reader any descriptions. If I do I’ll generally put it in the summary, for example- Reader is mentioned to have tattoos.

When it comes to smut- I do not write Mword/Dword, age play or similar kinks. I will not write about any waste fluids. I will not write incest. These are my hard line no’s.

I do not like large age gaps (say over 10 years). The reader will always be written as if they are close to the characters age. If the characters age is unspecified, I’ll be going off the actors age as a guideline aka with an actor in their early 30s, the character will be assumed to be, say 27-35.
