i just now learned about a recent case where a german man kidnapped and did unspeakable acts to two boys. one was german, one was a refugee. the first one was immediately treated as a missing case, but the second one was not because the cops were afraid the mother was hiding her son to avoid deportation. and the worst part is, that little boy was kidnapped in a government institution (lageso in berlin) where his mother went for help! its infuriating beyond belief.

racism is so deeply engrained in german institutions, its not funny. yet police refuses any reforms or real investigations and deny even the notion - despite mounting evidence - that there is an issue with systemic racism in german police. and we dont have an independent institution to control the cops, you know who investigates their failures and issues? other cops. and we all know how they stick together like literal shit.

but it also made me think about „missing white woman syndrome“. does anyone really care about an eastern european white woman who goes missing while being exploited in the west through prostitution, in the domestic field, nursing, or as a „mail bride“ dependent on her husband? does anyone care about a white woman in the usa going missing from a trailer park? does anyone care about a white woman who was homeless, mentally ill, drug addicted, disabled, impoverished, prostituted, or otherwise marginalised going missing? and do people not care about white men going missing?

and it also made me think about this current trend of oversimplifying and decontextualising racism. one thing i hope we all can agree on is that anti black racism is very persistent. i cant think of a single country where black people are treated preferably over other races, best case is to be treated equally as a black person, and even that is not the case in most countries. but this doesnt just apply to white majority countries. in japan or korea, or under the kafala system in the arabic gulf states, for example, black people are systematically discriminated against and exploited too. white people are also not the only ones guilty of colonialism and imperialism - albeit i dont want to minimise the scale of portugese, spanish, french, british/australin, german, dutch, belgian (neo)colonialism or the north american slave trade.

i dont know its just, everything always has to be put in context and looked at from an intersectional perspective but i feel a lot of people who fault white supremacy for everything dont do that. and dont get me wrong, white supremacy is the root of a lot of inequality and issues, but despite the name its not merely a black and white problem, its complex. for example, even if a roma or jewish person is white, neonazis dont consider them the same race as white people. or i remember my turkish professor once saying, „in turkey im considered white, but in germany im a person of colour“. because race is not just phenotype, it is also culture, nationality, location and ethnicity that matters for who is holding power and privilege.

meanwhile a lot of the same people will refuse to agree that sex matters. or claim that sex - which is a lot less ambiguous than race by the way and nobody argues that mixed race people prove that race is not real or doesnt matter the way they argue intersex people prove that sex is not real or doesnt matter - is a spectrum while chanting „black lives matter“. and i know that black communities do have that conversation about colourism and how whiteness is something even people of colour are supposed to „strive for“, which is why for example the harmful practice of bleaching your skin exists. so it is being acknowledged that race is a spectrum, but some of the same people who rightfully talk about black lives and how blackness is its own social category will call you a bigot for talking about female lives and how being female is a social category.

im not going anywhere with this, just some thoughts that came up regarding discussions on racism and sex and how they intersect too. feel very free to chime in especially as a person of colour obviously!

Idk if you know but Izutsumi is actually 17. It's not stated in canon but it's in the adventures guide so

oh huh i had no idea... i know falin must be 20 cause laios said hes 23 and im p sure they are 3 years apart, and laios said tallmen/humans however u wanna call them reach adulthood at 16 but idk if he meant his country or the race as a whole, so im not sure if that makes izutsumi a minor or not? also idk if it changes due to her being beastkin?

i mean ofc from our perspective she would be, but this is a fantasy setting w different ages of maturity, for example chilchuck said halflings reach adulthood at 14, due to their shorter lifespans, im just curious if for izutsumi adulthood would also be 16 like laios or if maybe eastern standards in the world of dunmeshi is different?

If it's the same, while she's not a minor that is still a three year age gap for izutsumi and falin, with izutsumi barely being an adult, add to that the fact idk how old marcille is or when she wouldve reached adulthood, i can see ur concern.

ill leave them out due to the blurred lines there, but in general i think its important to remember fantasy people dont necessarily age the same way we do, if beastkin age anywhere as fast as halflings, at 17 izutsumi would be older than a 17y/o tallman. thats all hypothetical ofc, and not really an attempt to justify the age difference, more so genuine curiosity about how ages work for her since idk if thats established? im still shocked a 29y/o halfling is old enough to have 3 adult kids for example, but then again they live an average of 50 years so it makes sense? I think the differences are really interesting! because despite only being 6 years apart, chilchuck is inherently a lot older than laios due to their racial traits and customs. Laios is a young adult and chilchuck is more like a middle aged man. Meanwhile, to Senshi and Marcille, 29 sounds like a baby, which means a 29y/o elf or dwarf would probaably be perceived by their own race as younger than even laios is to other tallmen, if that makes sense? at 30 smth senshi was treated like a kid by an older dwarf, maybe thats equivalent to their teens?

Now im just rambling though, i know that's not what the ask was about, it just had me wondering. In a context like this age can be more than a number due to racial traits and lifespans, but since izutsumi is probably closer to a human and idk if beastkin age differently or not, i'd agree that shes quite young especially compared to marcille who's probably a bit older than falin herself (well shes a lot older by literal decades but i imagine only a bit older if you consider elves probably reach adulthood a lot later which likely means marcille is a young adult herself?)

i also havent finished the manga so its difficult to form more concrete opinions on the matter but i hope i explained myself well? i do very much think a 17 year old in real life is a child, i was just rambling about this fantasy world and wondering how different things might be. if their 16 is our 18 then their 17 is our 19 and their 20 is our 22. I dont remember how mature I was at 19 but as a 22y/o i dont think id have felt comfortable dating someone 3 years younger personally? i still dont tbh

U know, of all TFP characters that you imagine how they feel if they in AOP story, why dont u try shockwave ? I probably missed it when u did mention him. If u cant define how he would adapted in this story, here's the reference for u. Its from fanfic Professor Shockwave, a RWBY and TFP xover story. It's okay if English isn't your first language. I do get the gist of your question. However, I'm not really a fan of the show RWBY. Sometimes I'll keep tabs on what's going on, but I've never watched the series in full. So I don't think I'd connect with the crossover your talking about.

However, if there are any of you who are fans of RWBY and TFP, Professor Shockwave is a fanfiction recommendation. Give the author some views and love.

But about TFP Shockwave,

He’s a bit of a mystery to me in regards to his emotions. In the aligned continuity, like Transformers Exodus and Exile, he emotes more than what we see in comparison to the show. The times that Shockwave is in the series, he dictates many of his actions and other people’s actions through logic. Are actions and responses logical or illogical? He was clearly hurt for being left behind, but immediately decides that Starscream’s response was logical. The one time I remember really emoting, really being angry, was when he called out Starscream for his treachery for the destruction of Project Predacon and 0.5 seconds away from taking out his optic. Even Megatron has considered Shockwave an anomaly and someone untrustworthy in Exodus, but he considered Shockwave useful.

We also know that Shockwave values his experimentations and his pet projects and will defy Primus on a regular basis to get what he wants. The Decepticons would give him the resources to do that, the Autobots would not. Which begs the overall question:

Would TFP Shockwave care enough about TFP Megatron’s defection and exile from Cybertron? Let’s find out.

So here’s how we start this story: once TFP Shockwave realizes that the Unicron threat is gone, and his creation have defected from him, he decides to leave Cybertron with a predacon bone he managed to salvage. He has no place there, and it would be illogical to remain on a world controlled by the Autobots. He’s off, doing his own thing, finding peace in his experimentation. That is until he stumbles across a few powerful readings on his vessel, followed by another reading that was tainted with energon. Shockwave follows it to the AOT world, but instead of going to Paradis, he goes to Marley, because there are more surges there.

He hides his ship and find himself near a battlefield, with an energon-powered Zeke Jaeger demolishing Middle Eastern forces. Shockwave, decides to use this to his advantage. He wants to know more about Zeke and the power he holds (possibly to replicate it for himself) and decides to aid Zeke in destroying Middle Eastern forces. The Marleyans are startled and grateful for Shockwave’s help, but Zeke is understandably suspicious, especially with the cannon for an arm. And Shockwave may think based on logic, but he can lie. He can use deception. He proclaims he was a former scientist who his government tortured and maimed for questioning the system that killed so many Cybertronians. He managed to escape them, but the damage was already done, and he now looks like this. Marleyans see the reward is worth more than the risk and decide to do an uneasy alliance with him.

Zeke keeps it from Megatron, but Megatron get suspicious at the technological advancements surging from Marley at an unsteady rate. It’s throwing him off. Shockwave is given free reign to experiment on the pure energon titans. Calvi and the other Marleyans are excited at the prospects, but Magath is nervous about Shockwave’s methods. They are unhinged, unethical. Magath brings this up to Calvi, but Calvi is content with the results and lets Shockwave work.

Meanwhile, Shockwave, is gathering every single piece of information about the titans and titan shifters. Their powers, skills, weaknesses, regenerative abilities, all of it. And he’s conducting his own experiments behind the scenes to see if he can apply the regenerative abilities to Cybertronian metal. Make a new creation under his control that will obey his every command. But...his direction is aimless. Why is he even creating it? What is it for? He then hears about the intel of Paradis having Optimus Prime and a Flying Titan, and Shockwave thinks this is illogical. He doesn’t care about a ‘Flying Titan’ half of all of Cybertron can fly. So he doesn’t think twice about it being Megatron. Hell, he’ll probably think it’s Windblade or something. No, what’s illogical is the fact that Optimus is supposedly alive and on the island. He voices his theory that this Optimus is a fraud, since Autobot chatter had reported him deceased, and unless he can crawl out of the core of their planet and grab a ship, the Optimus is a fraud. Shockwave also brings up the fact that the title of ‘Prime’ is the highest honor anyone on Cybertron can receive and compares it to being ordained by God (which it technically is).

However, the ruse doesn’t last, because Megatron does his own digging and discovers the new models that look eerily similar to Shockwave’s designs. Megatron can’t trust Zeke with this information; he’s certain that he’s been keeping secrets, so he decides to tail the Marleyan Military, including the Warriors, and spots them with Shockwave’s even more fucked up titan experiment and screams in his regular voice:

Because first of all, HOW THE FUCK DO YOU GET TRICKED INTO HELPING SHOCKWAVE?! Second, SHIT, IT’S SHOCKWAVE! Shockwave is stunned because he recognizes Megatron’s voice, and Megatron has no choice but to come flying down in his actual form and ram into Shockwave. And Shockwave is still trying to compute because, he’s the Flying Titan? He’s helping humans? He’s helping Optimus Prime? He’s no longer working with the Decepticons? What happened to Starscream then? All their endeavors? It’s all illogical, and the fact that it’s illogical gets him mad. Shockwave decides to say fuck it and betrays the Marleyans right then and there. He got what he wanted anyway.

Shockwave releases one of his own experiments, and he was successful in creating a Predacon clone with the regenerative properties of a titan shifter. The Predacon kills majority of Marleyan Military save for Magath since Pieck managed to save his life before the Predacon got to him. Zeke and Reiner try to fight the Predacon off but are easily beaten, and Megatron is currently dealing with Shockwave. And Shockwave is demanding an explanation out of him, but Megatron refuses to give him one. It’s not like Shockwave would care about that anyway. All you cared about were your botched experiments and tampering with creation. 

“That may be true, but I did not waste the time of other Decepticons with an illogical conquest that resulted in the exile of our planet,” Shockwave declared.

He’s not mad with Megatron in particular; he’s mad at the time wasted. But the Predacon is a problem, and Zeke is out. Megatron can’t do it on his own. So he makes a decision: He cuts Zeke and grabs him and Reiner and transforms before ordering Pieck to climb on, with Magath still in her mouth. But the Predacon manages to grab Porco before Pieck can get him and they have no choice but to flee. Megatron carries all of them back to Paradis which shocks the Survey Corps because what the hell are they doing here. But Megatron is still pissed and grabs Pieck by the throat and slams her into the ground, calling Magath out for his complete and utter foolishness. Optimus has to pry Megatron off of Pieck.

“What the hell is going on?!” Hanji demanded, “Why the fuck are they here?!”

“Shockwave!” Megatron shouts, causing Optimus to freeze and let him go. “Those slagging fools were working with Shockwave! That’s why their technology had gotten so advanced!”

“We were working against you devils! We took the-!”

Megatron slams his fist into the ground. “You think Shockwave cares about what you want! You were a means to an end! It was only a matter of time before he betrayed you! Because of you, he’s managed to create a Predacon with regenerative properties!”

“What?!” Optimus exclaimed.

“He’s going to hold this entire world hostage because of your arrogance and idiocy!” Megatron yells, “Damn it all!”

“W-who is Shockwave?” Armin trembled.

Optimus looked back at Megatron, who was still fuming in anger. “Megatron’s key scientist during the great war. Devoid of emotion and guided by his own definition of logic, Shockwave has been well known for his infamous and unethical experiments. The Cortical Psychic Patch, which allows one to see into the minds of another Cybertronian by force. The creation of the space bridge: a mode of transportation lost to Cybertron for eons. And his most recent experiment.”

Optimus turns to the Marleyans. “Which you all saw-,”

“The Predacon,” Megatron explained, “An ancient beast that fed off of Cybertronians. They went extinct during the Great Cataclysm that befell our world. With mere scraps on our dead planet, he brought Predacons back, with the ability to transform and have sentience like the rest of modern day Cybertronians. Shockwave tampers with creation because he wants to. It’s the one thing that drives him, and you just gave someone who defies Primus’ wishes information about the power of the titans! Your arrogance has doomed Marley and this world!”

“Our family,” Reiner finally managed to muster.

“Consider them dead until further notice,” Megatron declared coldly, “With the entirety of Marleyan military dead, and an enormous supply of titan serums and Eldians in Marley, Shockwave will continue what he started. Mourn your loved ones. They are gone.”

And…the Marleyans are devastated by the response. They turn to Optimus, hoping this is some kind of joke, but even Optimus’ face looks grim. Reiner and Pieck just break down crying, and Magath and Zeke are in stunned horror. Porco, Annie, the Warrior Cadets, their families are doomed, and they were helpless to do anything about it.

The 104th…don’t know how to feel about this. Because Reiner and Zeke have been the cause of their pain. They should be getting what they deserve, but the fact that Optimus and Megatron look concerned, makes them reconsider.

SO WELCOME TO THE DARK TIMELINE FOLKS!!!! Which include:

-Shockwave holding the entire world hostage with his creation, along with him creating new botched experiments. Also, Shockwave is ordering Marleyan scientists to hand over Eldians and the energon serum to experiment on pure titans. Some of whom include Zeke’s grandparents and Pieck’s father. Marley decided to give the weaker Eldians first. However, Shockwave is not stupid, and demands that a Warrior Cadet is given to him for further analysis or the Predacon is unleashed. And guess who got a little impulsive and couldn’t keep her mouth shut: Gabi, you dumb little shit!

-Paradis doesn’t know exactly what to do here because they fucking weren’t expecting this! Because Shockwave is fucking psycho! Optimus and Megatron are literally explaining what the hell Shockwave’s capable of and how he has no moral compass.

“Your moral compass is a fucking spinning pistol!” Hanji shouts at Megatron.

“At least mine slagging exists!” Megatron shot back.

-Meanwhile, the Warriors are a complicated case. They ultimately decide to grant immunity in exchange for their help in defeating Shockwave, but they are being watched like hawks, and Reiner is taking the full brunt of Paradis’ anger for the Shinganshina attack. Pieck is the only one that has the most free reign (if you can call it that) because she technically hasn’t done anything wrong to them. Although Megatron is fucking pissed at Zeke for keeping this shit from him. He doesn’t call Zeke outright or expose him right then and there, but he does tell the Survey Corps about his deception. They still need him, or at the very least they need him out of Shockwave’s hands. Also Megatron still hasn’t discovered Zeke’s intentions and whether or not there’s a plan to betray the island long term.

-Actually that’s another thing, Megatron didn’t save the remaining warriors because he was being kind. He needed them out of Shockwave’s hands because who knows what else Shockwave would accomplish.

-There is some good news to this somehow: Annie, who was kept underground for the duration of this for energon experiments from Marley, manages to get out due to the chaos. She manages to grab her father, the remaining warrior cadets, and a few others from Liberio and are now on the run. Willy ends up finding out about this and aids Annie and the others. A resistance against Shockwave begins to form in Marley.

-Meanwhile, Porco is just being put through the ringer of torture and experimentation with Gabi watching in horror. She begs Shockwave to stop and tries to say that they are good Eldians.

“Illogical. There are no good Eldians or bad Eldians,” Shockwave explains, “All of you are Eldians, all of you will be feared and hated until this world collapses in on itself or is destroyed by an outside force.”

“We just wanted to be free,” Gabi pleads with tears coming down her face.

“You were never going to be free,” Shockwave declares, “After the destruction of Paradis, the world leaders had a secret agreement to execute all remaining Eldians throughout the world.”

“Liar!” Gabi screamed at him.

“It is the only logical solution to peace on your world,” Shockwave reasoned, “Good or evil, which is a quite subjective notion, you can transform into a mindless beast that eats insects. The world would not feel safe unless all Eldians are gone. Your idea of a world where good Eldians can live freely is illogical and impractical.”

Gabi is just screaming liar at this point and Shockwave activated the shock system he has for Gabi’s cage to knock her out and shut her up.

(I might actually continue this timeline. The dark timeline is super fun. Lol.)

im going insane theres this book i read in elementary school that i dont even think was made with younger readers in mind and it was some murder mystery/thriller about anthro animas in like eastern europe or something and the main character was either a mouse or a rat. there was also a ladybug. i cant remember what its called i need my european furry thriller......

i just defeated Shantae and the Seven Sirens

if that lobster girl isnt running the warp station in the next game we riot

is it weird for me to say i expected the other half-genies to have the same skin colour as shantae? like, uncle mimic has pretty light skin, and considering genies are arabian folklore, i expected that genies had middle eastern complexions and shantae was like, fantasy biracial. but no, except for the girl that was specifically invoking polynesian culture (she wore a grass skirt and a flower belt), they were all paler than shantae.

anyway, starting off, part of the fun for me was that the game is surprisingly challenging. its not like, balls-to-the-wall or anything like that, but it certainly offered more difficulty than Risky's Revenge, the entry im most familiar with. my understanding was that the game had a definitive edition update, that rebalanced the difficulty. i think they did great as far as the enemies are concerned! i had an enjoyably prickly time dealing with them. i died a few times, which is a normal and enjoyable part of a reasonably challenging game. the only shame about that is the dancing. instead of transformations, which are now dedicated abilities (like the air dash making you a newt for a sec) theyre abilities like seeing invisible stuff and restoring health. as an aside, i thought the seer ability would let you, yknow, see into the hidden nsmbw-style alcoves, but it just sparkles where the entrance is, except for when it doesnt in the dungeons sometimes? its weirdly inconsistent. anyway, the updated rebalance made them cost (more?) mana while giving you a little notification when youre supposed to use em. i think this is a little lame. i get why they did it this way, because if you just blindly used it everywhere like plink tells you, then youd run out of mana. plus, how are you supposed to know when invisible things are their anyway? it just seems like it loses out on a fun explorative aspect that was originally intended by limiting it so much. i cant get pleasantly rewarded when my hunch about a secret is proven right, i have to be a good little gamer and put the spell-shaped key in the spell-shaped hole like they tell me to. it didnt ruin the game, it was just a little dissapointing.

one thing i really wanna compliment the game on is natural tutorials and use of antepieces. remember arin hansens megaman x video? yeah, those. pretty much every difficult enemy encounter, and almost every enemy period, shows you how it acts before its a threat. my favourite example is the siren enemy (theyre called... rocket archers??) you see on your way to the second dungeon. i got right to the ledge it was above, saw it charging up an attack, and waited that out before jumping at it. the projectile slowly started curving around me in a wide arc before fizzling out... oh, its homing. now i know how to dodge the next siren enemy, which is on a flatter plane. the game is at its best when it uses these antepieces well, and at its worst when it just kinda forgets. wetgals, yes thats really their name, are boss mooks that do and take a lot of damage. their charge attacks are hard to see coming if you dont have enough experience to intuit how long they wait, and they have a bad habit of turning into water and disengaging. your first encounter with them is a 2-on-1 ambush, which after an ambush with wall-clinging lizards that bounce awkward projectiles at you, and then the lizards and the wetgals simultaniously. the bizarre part is that the lizards were perfectly antepieced in the previous room... why is this so inconsistent?

thats the thing about this game. its very one step forward, one step back. like, the writing is really charming! except for the part where beloved character squid baron buys you from the black market to keep in his merch collection? that was just weird and offputting. the music is solid, but not as catchy and memorable as the previous games. the transformations are more streamlined, but the dancing still slows things down. frankly, its impressive that the game way really enjoyable despite all this. usually things that are pulled in different directions like this just feel hammered together and lacking identity. thats not how i would describe Seven Sirens at all! instead, there were just some bumps that i found to be less enjoyable. also, the game has so many fetch quests, cmon now

there are a lot of details that really go a long way in setting the ambiance. i love how you can see the tinkerbats futzing around more and more as you encounter risky, i love those little castlevania transition rooms where you can just look out into the pretty underwater (because otherwise itd be kind of easy to forget all the dungeons are underwater, a central theme), i love how literally every npc has a unique design and change what they say based on game progress. sequin land is a really fun setting, and a big part of it is details like that

oh, and as a quick aside, i couldve sworn that shantae was voiced by christine marie cabanos (madoka, chiaki nanami, amitie puyo puyo) because of how cutesy her voice was, but it was actually christina valenzuela (homura, monaca towa, noel vermillion)! she's voiced both her and risky since Pirate's Curse, which is exactly when i stopped playing the series. i was surprised by the range, because im not familiar with characters that shes voice in ways similar to shantae or risky (except maybe killua?), while they still sound really different from each other. sorry im kind of a nerd about voice actors. anyway,

should you play this game? well, yes, i had a great time with it. but theres context. i wouldnt recommend this as someones first shantae game, even considering the beginner mode. sure, maybe if youre a newcomer to videogames as a medium, and/or you hate any kind of difficulty at all, but otherwise there are better options. no judgement for casual modes btw, i totally get just wanting to relax with a digital vacation instead of a perilous adventure, but in that case theres stuff like simulator games and sandboxes. i havent played every shantae, but i hear half genie hero is a great point of introduction, both in story and difficulty. but if youre a metroidvania veteran and you dont mind not having the full context for some of the characters, then go for it!

Anon i am munich born and bred 🫡🫡🫡 EYE would recommend the basic centre city shopping tour: go from sendlingertor (the metro that stops there is u3/u6; also try to use the metro because i truly after 18 still dont understand the bus system and the metro is quite good; maybe theres a weekly tourist ticket because the monthly one is quite expensive) to marienplatz, then fuck about in the Salvador-passage and if you want to you can check out the hofgarten and residenz near odeonsplatz... From there you can walk to münchner freiheit (but its ugly there imo) so id go toward stachus...... If you find yourself wondering wow... This "old town" part sucks and is so small and theres construction everywhere... Welcome to munich <3

Now the non shopping related areas are the theresienwiese (theres also construction there happening always, rn theyre building the stage for ed sheeran for the euros looool) and then like 10 minutes away is my favourite park the westpark.... Its a bit lame but theres a cute café and idk it has its charm <3 if you have the time id highly recommend going to the olympiapark also, a lot of 70s architecture (i think the Olympiastadion has been proclaimed as like unesco cultural heritage??) and i WOULD have recommended going up the olympia tower BUT ITS GONNA BE RENOVATED AND CLOSED for the next like TWO years 😭😭😭💔💔

Lastly id recommend just walking along the isar.... Theres this little pier like part of the route where you walk above it, its near the landtag (state parliament, also pretty) and this little statue.... Its near Maximiliansplatz (here dont go to the actual place because its ugly but fuck about near the isar loooool); if youd like to go SWIMMING id HIGHLY recommend the maria-einsiedel-bad which is just a little caged off part of the isar where the water is filtered off and the tickets are quite cheap :) just try to go not on the weekend! Can get quite full

If you want to go somewhere cheap to eat munich is NOT THE PLACE TO GO. NOTHING IS CHEAP! but there are good restaurants near the train station, typically middle eastern etc! But yeah just evade the usual tourist spots (though at marienplatz theres this restaurant called café Glockenspiel which is alright, but again often full)

Analysis of Vesuvia :) Pt 4 Architecture!

Also let me preface this by saying that I am not Muslim and I do not know a lot about Islamic culture or art (because we only spent a week on it in my art history class, which is a shame, and I couldn't afford my textbook cry) but I will try my best to put correct information that I have found all over the internet :)

This one I was waiting to do cause I find it the most interesting. But also while doing my initial research this one made me go HEY WAIT

When I was making the last 3 parts I noticed a common theme in the bgs specifically in the arches and domes

They dont look like traditional Italian domes or arches which makes sense since Vesuvia is said to also have middle eastern influences.

But what I found most interesting while researching the architecture in Venice, I learned that suprise surprise the Romans saw some art form they liked and copied it. 

Notably there are a lot of gothic influences in Venice.

Ex  The Ca' d'Oro or Palazzo Santa Sofia, that for some reason I could only find decent info about on Wikipedia which I was trying to avoid lmao

Lots of little “windows” minature arches, just a lot of extra. The thing about Gothic architecture is that its EXTRA, Vesuvia is just a little more tame.

But what I wanna focus on are the domes

So, domes were primarily a thing in the middle east, India, and the Mediterranean and ofc the Romans were like, I like that so they implemented it a lot into their architecture. Such as the Pantheon or their basilicas

So remember when I said the Romans took architecture from other places? Well yea one of those places was the middle east and more specifically, the Islamic Style of architecture. source that was hard to find for some gd reason

Because Rome sticks out in the Mediterranean it would make sense that trade occurred often especially with other territories so close by.

The Islamic style was input into Venice around 1300-1500, when the gothic style was very prominent, and so it influenced how Venice was designed aesthetically and structurally

In Islamic architecutre, specifically in Mosques theres a wide variety of styles depending on when it was built, but they all share common characteristics. One of which being a dome. Like I said I do not known a lot about Islamic culture so here is what Khan Academy says

“The interior decoration of a dome often emphasizes this symbolism, using intricate geometric, stellate, or vegetal motifs to create breathtaking patterns meant to awe and inspire. Some mosque types incorporate multiple domes into their architecture (as in the Ottoman Süleymaniye Mosque pictured at the top of the page), while others only feature one. In mosques with only a single dome, it is invariably found surmounting the qibla wall, the holiest section of the mosque.”

Along with domes Islamic architecture also features a lot of arches, the Pointed and Ogee arch styles resemble the arches we see in Vesuvia in my opinion

Vesuvia’s arches are a little more dramatic✨ probably just for aesthetic purposes

Moving back to the domes they don’t exactly reflect European dome styles which are more half circular shaped, the domes in Vesuvia are more “onion shaped” as its called, such as the Taj Mahal, which is considered Indo-Islamic but thats besides the point

Some scholars believe that the Russian’s took inspiration from the middle east and also used the domes in their architecture, however based off what I’ve seen they're not as common in the middle east. Russians be loving their Onion domes I am not 100% sure on this I saw it on Wikipedia but ofc not a super reliable source and there were no citations on the page so apologies

But I feel that you could also argue that they are not onion domes but cupolas (not much difference but they don’t require a building to be on, they can be found on minarets and can be a little more dramatic with their shape), which like the onion dome originated in Islamic architecture, I feel theyre a better fit 

Along with Venice/Vesuvia having very Islamic looking architecture, the gothic style which is very prominent in Venice also takes inspiration from Islamic architecture as well

I think a great example we can look at is the Hagia Sophia, it was built as a Christian church in the 6th century, under the rule of Justinian I. Although it was built to be a Christian church, the Hagia Sophia resembles a Mosque like to the t

There are lots of domes, multiple layers, arches, and it even has the minarets (towers), on the four corners.

It now is housed as a Mosque today :)

I also find the column in the town square intersting, it has a very simple almost Corinthian shape but is also colored like middle eastern architecture typically is. Also the “capital” designs are usually at the top and not the bottom but it was probably the artist taking creative liberties :)

So while Vesuvia was designed with Venice in mind I would say it has very Indo-Islamic features, more so than Venice does. I also think it’s important to learn where styles originate from, especially when ancient Romans are praised for their architectural domes despite them being done before by other cultures

I was originally going to stop this series of posts here but I kinda want to do more about other parts of Vesuvia like the palace, the courtier estates etc and I can do other stories/worlds if you all want something like that :)

Explanation of batman from what I've gathered from one(1) movie and the fandom. Possible spoilers/wrong things here! Feel free to tell me anything I got wrong!

I only watched under the red hood, which is a jason todd centric movie that takes place afrer his 'death'. but lets start from the beggining.

So, Batman, Bruce Wayne (Wain? Wayne??idk) is a superhero vigilante that fights crime during the night, and he has no parents. He's filthy rich for no reason that I'm aware of. He runs a company??? Idk much about that it aint important.

Bruce adopts this kid named Dick, presumably short for Richard, and Idk his last name?? idk. He's the boy wonder the golden child the first robin all that good shit, then he gets too old and becomes like nightwing or smth. He also has like a team at some point and hes also the robin thats in teen titans/teen titans go

Bruce then adopts a second kid. This kid is like poor and hes from the crime place, his name is Jason Dean- oh no sorry, Jason Todd. Anyways Jason is the second robin, blah blah hes a reckless lad, blah blah hes a weird child, blah blah oh no he exploded-

Bruce adopts another kid! Kinda. That wasnt his plan?? but anyways, this kid is named Tim... uhh I forgot his last name. Drake? Tim Drake? ok thst sounds right lets go. Timmie here finds out that Bruce is batman and decides... "Im gonna blackmail him!" so he does, becomes robin, gets his parents killed- oh god Jasons alive wtf.

So Jason came back to life and he's angry. This is where under the red hood takes place but Tim Drake is not in this movie even though he should be the current robin?? Ok anyways, Jason is angry. He dismantles some crime like a boss but kills people while hes doing that and batmans like no stop, so naturally, Jason doeant. Stuff happens, Jason threatens to kill Joker?? Batman shoots a bat-knife at his gun/neck (its different in different sources, in the movie its the gun) and Jasons like "AAAGH" and I forgot what comes next.

Anyways, after that Batman at some point got a lady pregnant! She brings the resulting child to batman like "hey :)". Turns out this kid, Damian(Damien?) is an asassin thing which is... weird. But we dont need to talk about DCs questionable motives rn. Damian is a whiny ass toddler-like puberty filled teenager, and Batmans like "SWEET I can make that into a soldier!" so he does.

Sidenotes:

•Jasons ressurection was described in two different ways, in one he dug himsrlf out of his grave after just,,,, waking up? In the other he gets yeeted into the green goo lake(lazarus pit) and gets revived by that one guy whos name is definitely middle eastern that I cant remember rn.

•Dick is overly sexualised apparently, and people talk about his butt a lot?

•Tim went to dinner with a guy once!

•Tim also had a girlfriend up until now apparently?

•Tim is also a caffeine addict????

•Dick being hot is a really common thing to point out in fanfics and I cant disagree

Prologue - Cordelia

May brings with it the memory of battles fought and won and the ever looming presence of a war not quite lost but certainly nowhere near done. As I hand out threadbare blankets around the flickering fires of the temporary war camp, I have to force my mind not to stray to all the people who should be here but are not. Well, the one person, really. I don’t allow myself to dwell, for I know that if I let my heart open to loss, there will be no hope at closing the hole left behind. No one here will tolerate that.

Yet no one criticizes Halen when she fumbles and breaks her fragile composure, storming out of the planning tent, the memories glistening in her eyes threatening to spill over. No, when it’s her, they rush to comfort her, to appease her, and they tell her to take all the time she needs. After all, has the poor girl not been through enough? they whisper pityingly as though we all haven’t lost others to this fight. But, of course, it’s not my place to comment on the actions of the mighty Chosen One. Even if she is my friend.

I look down to find my hands are empty. Tir has taken the last blanket from me without my noticing, and he’s settling down against his pack with his bare feet at the fire. I scowl; he isn’t allowed to speak against Halen either, despite being her older brother.

Heaving a sign, I slump down next to my friend and pull a corner of the blanket over myself. Tir shifts slightly so I can lean against his shoulder. We don’t speak. There are no words big enough to dispel the cloud of grief that hangs over us.

I know Tir is thinking of Zo today, just like he knows I’m thinking of Cherry.

Both of us, I’m sure, are also thinking that Halen ought to be here. She ought to be spilling those tears she always threatens and apologizing meaninglessly for deaths that aren’t her fault. Since when did she choose to be distant and calm? Couldn’t she at least have the decency to break down with the rest of us?

I scowl at a gecko as it skitters through the dirt toward the treeline to the west. I should say something to Halen. I should scream at her, sob at her, cry out until she understands that we need her as a friend, not just a commander.

My mind made up, I stand quickly, earning a confused stare from Tir. “Where are you off to?” he asks, his voice thick.

I shake my head. “Somewhere that isn’t here.”

He chuckles and reaches up to squeeze my hand. It’s enough. He was never one for many words.

I smile sadly down at him and set off to the eastern shore, where the purple and gold tents of the Eneris royal tents have been set up. Their fire and sun emblem shines bright on the tent flaps behind guards dressed in layers upon layers of robes and wraps and blankets. I scoff. The army settled just twenty yards away is shivering under thin blankets and dying fires while the royals and their company dine on mutton and venison. Not that I’ve come to expect anything else from them. They recruited Halen and built this army from the ground up—of course they believe themselves worthy of a few more precious coins exchanged for better conditions.

Even today, the first anniversary of Monvira’s troops storming villages and uprooting lives, they haven’t so much as acknowledged the flood of pain that’s sweeping through their army. I wonder if they even know what May first means to their people.

I stop mid-stride, staring straight ahead at the Strategy tent, where I know Halen spends most of her time these days.

It hits me: May first. The sky is clouded and the birds are silent, but it’s May first and no one bothered telling me that I forgot my birthday. Which was April thirtieth. No one noticed.

Weariness pushes at the back of my eyes, and I blink heavily against the tears blurring my vision. Memories from last year flood my mind as I turn and hurry towards Halen’s private tent. It bares the same colors and seal as the others.

I collapse on her bedroll and let out a single sob.

Last year, on the night of my birthday, Cherry had wrapped a blanket around us both as we stumbled back to our village after a whole day spent together at Renton Lake. She’d kissed my hand and twirled me toward the hut I shared with Halen, giggling in the moonlight, her dark unbound hair spilling over her shoulder like a waterfall of night. The memory rips through me, forcing another sob out of my quaking body.

The next morning, she’d been gone.

I’m not sure how long I lay there, my tears collecting in a pool around my head, but eventually the shaking subsides and leaves behind a solemn heaviness. Only when I hear the tent flap ruffle do I stir. There’s a small gasp, then: “Delia?”

Halen’s nickname for me only makes the smallest dent in my sorrow. I push myself to a sitting position, sure that my face is red and splotchy and my hair wild and tangled. All in all, I don’t blame her for looking taken aback. “Delia, what is it?” she gushes, crouching before me and taking my face in her hands. “What’s wrong? What can I do?”

This is exactly what I wanted when I stormed in here. Now, I nearly laugh. It’s pathetic, really, all this time I’ve spent cleaning up after Halen, chasing her, thinking maybe she could do something that would fill the cavity growing inside me. I see it now, as her hazel eyes rake my face. “Nothing,” I tell her. Her thumbs are soft as they wipe away the tears that trickle down my cheeks. “Not anymore.” My voice is scratchy, and I push down against a wave of shame. I’m better than this. I’m better than breaking down in my friend’s plush tent. I’ve never been the emotional one—that was always Halen.

I wipe away my tears, feel myself stand and walk out of the tent, my mind still occupied with hazy revelations I’m too exhausted to fully pursue. There’s a feeling in my gut, the only one that matters right now, and it’s an overwhelming cry to get out.

The grass is silent under my feet as I walk, and I’m distantly aware of Halen calling after me. Her cries of “Wait!” and “What’s going on, Cordelia?” follow me, even after she stops.

I keep walking.

I don’t look back.

Sus Rasict things Monster High has done

1. White washed an Egyptian character

Cleo looks so white when she's based off of Egyptian royalty. Yall can't even tell me she's tan or anything like that she looks plain white

If you don't think they whitewashed her you can't deny monster high participated in colorism. Cleo our main boo who the audience is supposed to cheer for is lighter then her sister which we are supposed to hate. Her sister is occasional the antagonist.

2. Over sexualize their black character

Yall can try all you want to tell me otherwise but clawdeen was dressed more scandalous then the rest of the dolls. In the anime version of Monster High clawdeen says something along the lines of "One of the cute things about me is my short revealing skirt."

Mattel let that slide by. Many black characters get over sexualized.

Can we just stop sexualizing little poc girls. I remember as a child putting clawdeen skirt on her and trying to pull it down a bit , so it wouldn't show too much. When I tried to pull it down it just went down all her legs.

3. Not good at representing indigenous people skin tone.

In MH they do have indigenous based designs but they don't necessarily reflect the way indigenous people look. A little girl can't pick up the doll and say "hey this doll looks like me" and I think all little girls would like to see them self in things they like. Also a lot of poc end up hating that they aren't lighter. It would be nice if they could see their skin represented in a doll.

Dont tell me that oh it wouldn't work with these monsters because the monster doesn't have skin blah blah blah blah. MH has designed black coded vampires and white coded werewolfs before.

Also I'm so tired of companies having so many white people than sprinkling some black people and calling it a day cause they met the "diversity quota". I'm honestly thinking now that they just put Clawdeen in to say they have a poc doll."Look at how diverse we are." If they really where diverse they would not have white washed a Egyptian character in the first place.

4. They just have whitewashed many more characters

First is Gigi Grant, Middle Eastern people can be light skinned but they're are also "tanned" middle eastern people. MH already got a whole ton of white characters. It would not hurt to just give Gigi some melanin.

Another whitewashed character is Marisol Coxi

Her doll and doll art fur/skin is light pink

But in the webisodes she looks like a black coded character

Idk why they changed the way she looks in one media from the other. Just let us have more poc dolls!

Third is Honey Swamp its possible she is simply a lightskined person which is perfectly fine. But it seems like monster high just likes to deny us melanin enriched dolls.

5. The Tiki

They never had a tiki Monster High character that looked like the rest of the MH dolls. Which would have been nice to see but alas it was stolen from us. The tiki where just a plot device for a MH movie Escape from Skull Shores. They don't ever tease the tiki or anything like that, thank goodness. At the beginning of the movie they just follow these white man's orders , which is very sus.

Another weird thing, is in a different movie Scaris City of Frights Cleo accidently destroys the whole village. Then Skelita (an indigenous based character) tells her to apologize to the tiki but instead Cloe is all like "Hah I dont apologize." then she manipulates the tiki into building a ship for her. That unnecessary scene just leaves a bad taste.

Honestly its sad how the tiki are always being manipulated. I think the media should stop using poc as mere plot devices.

6. Having a white character based off poc aesthetic

Monster high gave Jane Boolittle a jungle aesthetic. They state that she never knew her origins. Honestly I think they are trying to go for a Tarzan type of story. "Oh no us rich white people who decided to explore a jungle and brought our kid with us too..... for some odd reason ..... have had something tragic happen to us. Now our child is alone only to be raised by animals ahhhhwww." Later she gets adopted by another researcher/explorer. MH if you are gonna base a character on the "jungle aesthetic" maybe base it off ohh idk people who actually live in the jungle and not some rando white girl!!

I'm so tired of these stupid colonial based stories first with that werid white con-man in Skull Shores and now these white explorers!! I can't.

(Also Jane being a whole stalker is not cute. Her being a stalker endorses that behavior. A kid might see that and be like "wow she's stalking but that's okay because she's shy uwu. " pls never stalk anyone ever. )

If we ever cancel a Monster High character it should be Jane Boolittle.

7. "Race" jokes

I thought monster high was supposed to be about accepting people but the amount of times a monster from a different race has made a race joke on another monster is not even funny. The discrimination and horrible jokes Ghoulia had to hear right in front of her face is so sad. I think its honestly teaching kids to make/be tolerant with rasict jokes.

"Uhhhhhnnnhhhhng I'm a mummie"

For example when Duce made a joke on mummies doing" zombie motions". Like you got the wrong race and a inaccurate stereotype dummy. These writers were stupid. 😑

I dont think we should cancel MH just Jane Boolittle or anything like that. But if monster high comes back and they still haven't addressed/fixed these issues we should definitely fight them.💖
