in honour of i am who’s release i decided to find the time and actually finish this request!! because honestly hyunjin makes me all levels of happy and i had so much fun writing this lmao, i hope you love it as much as i do!! <3

hwang hyunjin x reader ft the rest of stray kids.

being honest, cooking with hyunjin was a mess

because whenever you would cook for him at your house, he would do all things to distract you and would end up half ruining the mood purely because he wanted your full attention

and when he would cook for you it would be a disaster because every time, without fail, he would set fire to something

previous occurences of this included rice, kitchen towels and nearly his eyebrows once

it was a very smokey and dark time that you two refuse to talk about now

and you when the boys invited you out for lunch one afternoon, you were happy to join them as they were ‘treating you to a lunch wherever you wanted’

you thought that it was just your boyfriend and his best friends being nice

but boy were you wrong

by the time you had arrived at the restaurant they had already begged you to help them cook dinner for their families, all whom were coming together to celebrate their first comeback which was coming up soon

and you had already refused to twice

but then jeongin and seungmin had pretended to cry

jisung had threatened to end your friendship

and hyunjin had given you the cold shoulder for the rest of the journey

and basically all of them bullied you into saying yes

but it was on strict terms: none of them were to do anything other than what they were told, you’d be cooking what you knew best and if hyunjin dared distract you whilst you were cooking, you’d smack him with a spatula

this last rule went down particularly well with the majority of the boys

but hyunjin had hugged you despite wearing a sulking smile

lunch had gone well with all the boys eagerly chatting about the plans for dinner tomorrow night

and you had just begrudgingly eaten your food, wondering how on earth you had gotten into this mess

you figured it had something to do with your love towards hyunjin’s parents as well because the first time they had met you, they had instantly fallen in love with you as hyunjin’s partner

and no one else’s parents had ever loved you that much so you figured you had to do everything to keep them impressed with you

and if hyunjin had a partner who could cook, that would be great!

getting the ingredients was a Big Mess™ because chan and you were the only ones focused on getting the necessary food, and the rest of the boys were debating over which sweets to throw into the meal you were planning to cook, and whether you should drink cherry or bubblegum flavoured soda

chan had just given up eventually and left you, with the help of a disgruntled hyunjin, to get the ingredients whilst he tried to round up his other seven friends

and eventually woojin had helped you grab the rest of the ingredients and you persuaded changbin into paying for the food

the next day

and to say you were stressed was an understatement

because after yesterday in the grocery store, the idea of cooking with stray kids made you want to throw yourself down a flight of stairs

hyunjin picked you up from your house and drove you back to the stray kids dorm, which you had forgotten until this point that the kitchen was about as big as a king sized bed and could fit no more than four people inside

but you worked with what you had

seeing as the families were all coming to stray kid’s dorm for food, you insisted that jeongin, changbin, felix and jisung spend time tidying and cleaning the place so it looked significantly nicer than when it usually did

and you set seungmin and woojin up next door preparing the fruits for the dessert that you were planning to cook for them

chan and minho helped you in the kitchen preparing the actual food for the main course, with minho’s cooking skills surprising you as he expertly prepares the meal

and hyunjin does his usual of annoying despite all of your pleas for him not to

at first it’s just tickling your cheek with your hair or poking your sides, knowing it will make you laugh

then it’s him eating half of the food you’ve laid out to prepare

or him ‘taste testing’ the food

then kissing you so you can ‘taste test the food as well’

much to chan’s dismay

you do hit him multiple times with the spatula, until he wrestles it out of your grip by pinning you against the fridge and kissing your nose as he steals it

then he wiggles it above your head to annoy you even more

occasionally tapping you on the head to wind you up

until you turn around and stuff some food into his mouth, surprising him and subsequently loosening his grip on the spatula for chan to take it from his grasp

at this point the other boys have finished tidying the dorm and are anxiously waiting in the doorway to the kitchen for your approval

which turns out to be difficult because it is mostly changbin and jeongin poking each other and jisung and felix bickering over who had the most clothes in the living room

but you leave the food preparation to chan and minho whilst you inspect the rest of the dorm with hyunjin tailing after you, sulking about the lack of attention

you had to be honest with the guys and tell them that their tidying skills had surprised you

because face it,,,, stray kids are a mess and so is their dorm expectedly

and the boys throw a mini party because they had done something right and impressed you at the same time

which involved jisung and felix carrying you back to the kitchen, hyunjin filming the situation to show you your reaction later

the boys all chatter nervously whilst you finish the food for later, giving chan and minho strict instructions on how to finish preparing the food when their families arrive to make it look good

all while hyunjin wraps his arms around you, basically engulfing you into his jumper and kissing your temples or playing with your hair to distract you

you finally give him the job of carrying the food that woojin and seungmin had prepared next door into the kitchen

and then send the rest of stray kids into the living room under strict instructions to keep it tidy whilst you get hyunjin to help you prepare the dessert

“there is nothing you can set on fire this time, hyunjin, we are making fruit salad and sundaes. if you set this on fire-”

“the fruit box fell on the floor itself!”

and that’s the story of how you almost kicked hyunjin down a flight of stairs as the fruit spilled across the floor of the kitchen

“hyunjin-”

“i love you, y/n!”

then he would run from the room and literally hide behind any of his members as you inspect the damage he has caused

woojin and seungmin both let out battle cries as they look at all of their hard work scattered across the floor

and you just let out a sigh before continuing with the sundaes around the spilled fruit, which jeongin and felix tidy up around your feet

eventually hyunjin builds up the courage to walk back into the kitchen, unsure whether he should approach again

and wraps his arms around you, apologising profusely

“i’m never doing anything for you again, hwang hyunjin.”

“you love me too much-”

“right now i’m thinking about how great it would be to tell your mother about how screamish you are when it comes to-”

“NOT IN FRONT OF THE BOYS”

and that’s the end of that argument

involving hyunjin attacking you with kisses and affection until you crack him a smile and your anger melts away

and finally the preparations are finished and you disappear for the evening whilst chan takes the lead and finishes the meal for their families

and apparently it was a success despite the lack of fruit

and you vowed never to cook with hyunjin, or any of stray kids again for that matter, again
