I hate it when cishet people write Achilles and Patroclus as friends and that is in part why I'll always insist in Achilles and Patroclus being interpreted as a 100% gay couple, especially with non queer people
Like, is not wrong to interpret Patroclus and Achilles as friends BUT
When straight people that are neck deep in amatonormativity do it, it always goes like this
"Oh, Patroclus and Achilles are friends lol, but Achilles is a man, therefore he needs to be with a woman, so he's in love with Briseis, oh but romantic love is more important than friendship, so Briseis is more important than Patroclus and Patroclus doesn't matter in the end"
And another thing I absolutely hate when straight people write Heterochilles is that they always are like
"Oh, Achilles killed Briseis's entire family, took away her freedom, and raped her, but she loves him, because... How could she not love him? After all he was a boy, she was a girl, can I make it any more obvious?"

The Little House books are actually great inspiration for worldbuilding, because their working class perspective reminds you to think about all the work that goes into getting the resources needed for daily life.
Where does the food come from? Who cooks it? Where does the fabric for clothes come from? Who spins it, weaves it, sews it? What do you use for heat? Light? Transportation? Can you get these resources yourself from the local landscape or do you buy them from somewhere else? What happens if something breaks or runs out?
Not all those details are needed for every story, but these books show how useful it can be to consider those details. And remind you that, if you tell it well enough, sometimes those details can be the story.

In small gods this quote always stood out to me and I think I just realized this idea is so core to the book and the general arc of the book. Like this is one of Brutha’s core traits and also kind of the primary arc of the book. I think unlike most protagonists with an arc of the sort Brutha has, as well as in comparison to the other people fighting Vorbis, he takes a long time to really seemingly leave the harmful beliefs behind. However when he does he bowls everyone else over.
This quote, as well as Brutha’s characterization in general, also made me think about what exactly slowness is. I think, at least in this case and context, slowness is taking the time in your thought. Brutha really takes the time to come to conclusions he comes to. He thinks about what he is learning, and some of it is probably partially denial, but in comparison to other characters that deal with this kind of situation there is not a lot. Instead it is more like he comes to his conclusions slowly and with consideration.

Still wild to me that the Avatar team saw a guy write a love story between a stick and a monkey and were like "This is the guy who we need to write Rangshi and Yangvik" and then he ended up making two of the best couples in all of the Avatar-verse TT0TT

Recently decided to re-read Impulse because he’s my fav and this particular character development has been living in my head for years and years
(Issue 23- Issue 66)
#Bart Allen#Impulse#Max Mercury#thaddeus thawne#I always think how the very first issue of impulse starts out with him writing about how he thinks Iris is the only one who’s ever loved him#And of course Thad’s a beautiful parallel because his anger derives over the same frustrated feeling. That no one has ever really loved him#but there’s also the fact that like Bart clearly loves and cares for the people that surround him very early on he’s just.#like right after that happens in issue 23 he inmediately starts behaving as properly as possible to appease max#who’s understandably pissed but hasn’t really explained why to Bart and he’s clearly wanting to get any form of response#(average neurodivergent kid when they say something off and no one bothers to explain to him the why just assume the worst)#and like the point is that he doesn’t need to learn how to love people he just needs to adjust his parameters basically#and I love that because it means that his clear neurodivergence isn’t treated as a flaw or something wrong#in the next issue after 66 he once again drifts off and has trouble focusing on a convo and max is still looking at with pride and fondness#I just love Bart a lot man I don’t know
