Design Concepts (and my unnecessary thoughts):

Excuse the the colors, ig my apps are fighting.

I see Mabel finding success no matter what happens to her, but I really like the thought of her running an insane arts and crafts business in GF. Alternatively, if she fell in the portal, she'd come out acting confident as always, but she probably wouldn't realize how much the constant change and lack of family/stability wore her out until she settled back in. In either case, she's a bit cracked.

Dipper is investigative, but cracks easiest under stress and is not as inherently adventurous as Mabel or Ford- so the portal wouldn't treat him well. If he's not the one in the portal, he'd be into stargazing and real magic to share with people, while also warding tourists away from the dangerous stuff. In general, he'd be an unhappy adult if left to his own devices, lol.

Between Dipper and Mabel, I like Dipper being in the portal more. He's a great protagonist, but as a supporting cast member, he needs to be more insane to match the draw that is 'Mabel taking care of children,' ha. I also love the idea of there being no portal / some other looming threat for these two to struggle with (at least because Hirsche has made it clear that Dipper and Mabel are equally smart, and to me it seems like the portal would reopen way quicker with them), but I didn't plan on posting these and I don't know how my followers feel about me posting lore.

Stanford and Stanley:

Pretty much how they are in canon, but now they're in a setting where they can get over themselves, ha. They aren't quite as mature as Dipper and Mabel were at their age, but after coming to GF, they finally found other people to look out for them. Dipper could be a more emotionally available and level-headed role model (I think having people to take care of is calming for him in turn), and they'd both look up to Mabel as the peak of somebody who knows how to socialize.

Fiddleford:

He's a sweet, southern, farm-raised mechanical engineer just like in canon.

Idk why Fiddleford is in GF (visiting an unnamed grandparent?), but I really like his relationship with Ford in the journal. Following that thought, in this AU, he starts out more of Ford's friend than Stan's, and it's kind of a big deal. Unlike Dipper's arc on learning to be a kid, Stan and Ford clearly struggled a lot with interpersonal relationships / finding security outside of eachother, and that's what I think this AU could be about (it's great they realized they need each other in canon, but the part where they had no one else to turn to is also kinda crazy if you ask me).

Ford gets to meet another smart kid in a weird town, which helps him feel more normal. He has a better idea of what friendship is because of it, but also, since I can't imagine Dipper wanting an apprentice so young/vulnerable/impressionable or Mabel asking only one of the twins to stay- he'd have to come to terms with the fact that he can't live in his dream world forever. (Or maybe the apprenticeship comes from somewhere else, just because the conflict around going back to Glass Shard Beach at all, or sending Stan alone could be pretty good.)

On the flipside, I think Stan's initial jealousy of Ford and Fiddleford's friendship would force him to try finding his own friends / hobbies. I like the idea that he fails at first- and a lot- but Mabel notices his mounting frustration (which he is very keen on hiding), and her consistent and unorthodox support makes him realize he wasn't alone to begin with. He can be more open around her, which makes it easier to open up to others, and then he can make friends without having to pull any tricks. He probably starts with some animals, and then at least gets closer to Fiddleford anyways (I feel like they're both more practical than Ford and value human company more, so they'd bond easier once Stan gets over his personal hurdle).

Anyways- because that was way too much- Mabel's exes are a constant source of antagonists and Dipper is stressed about setting a good example.

Sandbox

This one might be better suited for bigger kiddos depending on how complicated the pictures are.

There's a free app I use called Sandbox which is basically a mobile coloring book! You can find all sorts of coloring apps and sites online, but I've really liked using Sandbox.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can share the pages I do, but I'd be happy to screenshot and share them with you all if you want to try and find them to do them with me!

It's free to download, and there's also a premium option.

This is what it looks like when you open the menu! You can scroll up or down, try the pictures at the top, or tap the circles in the bottom left of each picture to show you more pictures of that type! If I find a cat picture, but I want to find an easier one/one that will take less time to make, I can tap the circle and find more cat pictures!

To fill the squares, you tap the color you want to start with, zoom in to find the square with that color's number (it will be shaded when selected!) and tap to color each square, or double-tap to fill a whole space.

If you go into the settings, you can set it so double-tapping also fills squares/spaces diagonal to the one you tap.

Once a color at the bottom has the stripes over it, that means you've filled all the squares of that color.

You can share the pictures or download them once you're done, and if you tap the green checkmark up in the top right, it'll show you a quick version of you coloring it!

Once you're back on the home menu, you can swipe right to see the pages you've made, or swipe left to make pixel art of your own!

One thing I didn't picture here was that little gray bar above the colors when you're working on a drawing- if you drag that up, it'll pull up a menu of a color wheel/array you can use to pick custom colors for each number!

👻🕯️ Spirit Communication Candle Spell 🕯️👻

Honestly I feel bad sitting on this thing when I’ve had such great success with it so here it is:

Let’s make a spell candle for your spirits! This could be for a guide, an ancestor, anything that talks and is a spirit, this candle will work for.

This candle makes sure that only the designated spirit may talk during the convo so you don't have to worry if there is outside communication, it also takes the energetic toll off of them and you during the talk, helps enhance the clarity of the communication and helps foster a positive vibe during the convo as well.

Please remember to ask your spirits for consent before making and read the whole post before getting started.

To start, grab a glass prayer candle, it doesn't really matter what color it is. It could be their favorite color, it could be light blue for communication, it could be purple to represent spiritual realms, it could be just white.

On a piece of paper (the smaller the better), write the following paragraph and fill in the blanks: "I invite only __ energy while this candle is burning, all other spirits are respectfully asked to step aside. The communication with __ is clear, concise and filled with positive intentions"

On another small piece of paper, draw a sigil that draws the energy from source. I do this because without it, the energy draw it creates is pretty significant. Here is my sigil that i use for it:

On yet another small piece of paper, draw a sigil that stands for the intention of only that spirit talking while the candle is burning. I can't really show an example for this because the sigil changes based on what the name is. Either way you do your sigils, it'll be fine. Example intention for the sigil "While this candle burns, only jessica may talk"

Take those 3 pieces of paper, and put them to the side for now. Next, grab these following herbs and crystals and one by one, speak your intention into them and add them on top of the candle. You can soften the wax if you'd like to, but i don't find that necessary, I just throw them on top.

Crystals:

Blue Chalcedony: clear communication, self expression and tranquility

Amethyst: spiritual protection and help guard against negativity and other spirits talking

Obsidian: shield against negative energies, outside spirits trying to talk, and enhance clarity of communication

Lapis Lazuli: effective communication and self expression

Clear Quartz: amplify the energy and success of the spell

Yellow Agate: boost personal power, energy and help foster a positive vibe within the convo

Herbs:

Thyme: clarity in communication

Coffee grounds: boost the energy and success of the spell

Pink Salt: clarity, balance, grounding and healing

Cinnamon: boost energy and vitality of spell

All Spice: protection, prosperity, energy boost, psychic abilities, harmony

Do we really need all this for it to be successful? Not sure, but this is the recipe that has worked and proven successful time and time again. Okay so we have our crystals and our herbs on there, next we grab the 3 pieces of paper and burn them one at a time, putting the ashes on top of the wax.

To finish off the candle, redraw the first sigil that draws the energy from source and then on top of that sigil, draw the same sigil you did for the specific spirit and tape it onto the candle. I usually just draw these on sticker paper and stick it to the candle but if you don't have that, just tape it. Bonus points if you draw a cute design and put it on top! Here’s what my sigils would look like:

Yay! Now we have our finished candle. This candle works well for all sorts of communication methods. Tarot, pendulum, dousing rods, radio, apps etc etc, tho i made this candle with paranormal apps/radio in mind, that's where you'll see the most difference. Make sure you cut the wick well above the ashes, crystals and herbs because we don't want it being drowned out.

Please please please keep this candle within sight when first burning it cuz all those ashes are a pretty decent fire hazard and they most definitely will light on fire. I just poke em out when they do.

❗️The only disclaimers I have for this spell is the fact that it will not be perfect communication, you're speaking across dimensions after all, but it will most definitely help and you'll notice a difference both in the communication and energy levels, especially if you're using an app like ghosttube or a psb7 spirit box. Also, this candle creates a barrier. Please tell your spirit to let you know when they would like to go because they will not be able to leave the conversation by themselves, you'll have to blow out the candle in order for them to leave.

‧₊˚౨ৎ good day to you, patron. indeed you may know how I color my graphics. I should share a fair warning beforehand, I do not claim my method of coloring images as the best or only method- there are many viable methods, though, I have found this one works best for my needs.

chapter I ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀image choice + program

‧₊˚౨ৎ for this tutorial, I will be using argenti's lightcone, 'an instant before a gaze.' such a beautiful lightcone will do wonderfully for a profile picture in my next edit, which you may want to keep an eye out for. the program I use is firealpaca, it is a free and easy to use drawing app that I have also found suitable for editing. however, this tutorial should apply to all programs usable for edits, so long as it has filters.

chapter II ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀color choice

‧₊˚౨ৎ the next step is to choose your colors. I typically only need two to begin recoloring my images, and if needed, I will change throughout the process. however, for simplicity's sake, I've chosen two colors for this edit. I quite like argenti in red, so I will be keeping him in red for this edit. I tend to memorize the general placement of my colors upon the color chart, but if you hold concerns for memorizing your colors, do not fret. I suggest placing your colors on a different layer so you may color pick them as needed. now that we have our colors, we may continue.

chapter III ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀beginning the recoloring

‧₊˚౨ৎ to begin coloring, create a new layer, and make sure it is above the image. I start off by using the gradient tool provided by firealpaca to place both colors in a nice gradient, in either order, and then change the blending filter to 'color.' you will see the image change into your desired colors in a natural way; if it does not look like how you imagined, attempt to adjust the opacity or the colors you are using before continuing. as you can see, the image is extremely red, so I will be turning the opacity down for a more natural recoloring.

‧₊˚౨ৎ that is a much better recoloring. it is less bright, and more akin to ambient lighting. this satisfies my needs, so I will continue onto the next step. to continue, you may either create a new layer with the gradient of colors again, or you may simply duplicate the layer from before and adjust as needed. I have chosen to do the latter. after you have the new gradient layer, combine the original gradient layer down to the image after you are certain it suits your tastes.

chapter IV ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀continuing to edit

‧₊˚౨ৎ now that you know the basics on how I personally choose to edit, it makes continuing the recoloring much easier. after this, you can duplicate the gradient as many times as needed, or create new gradients and adjust the opacity and the blending filters. I typically tend to use the following filters during my editing, though I may not use all of them if not needed- multiply, overlay, screen, lighten, darken, soft light, hard light, and then color. these are simply my most used filters, and I may branch out into hue or saturation change as needed, though rarely do. feel free to play around with your blending filters, it's important to find which filters suit your preferences and needs most, patron. for this edit, I used mostly multiply, overlay, and screen, and adjusted filters opacity as needed.

chapter V ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀returning to old roots

‧₊˚౨ৎ this step is entirely optional, but I enjoy doing this. I like to add a touch of different colors during my recoloring, and in this case, I would like to bring back argenti's green eyes. fetch an image of the character once more, and use it to color pick the color you wish to bring into the edit. in this case, I've used argenti's chibi sticker in order to return his original eye color. you may create a new layer with these colors as well, if you wish to, but I am usually fine to just remember it. this method is the same one I used to bring back the green hues in my personal graphics when editing them.

‧₊˚౨ৎ using your brush tool and on a new layer, color over and fill in the area you wish to recolor. since the area is small, this step is fairly easy, and I simply recolor over the pupil. then, set the blending filter to color, and adjust opacity as needed. you may also attempt to set the filter to overlay or multiply, the blending filter which works best to you is to be discovered by you, but I personally find the color filter to be enough. after this step, I tend to add another layer; in this case, I added an extra screen layer, to add more into it. be sure to add as much as you feel is needed.

chapter VI ⠀⠀✧ ⠀⠀finale

‧₊˚౨ৎ and this is the completed product. though it may not be the best recolor I've done to this day, it certainly befits a good tutorial and sample of how I tend to do my projects. I do hope this helps you color your graphics and images as well, patron. thank you for the question, it was a very fun experience writing up a small tutorial such as this one. do have a good day, now, and until we meet again, patron.

I get asked the same 3-5 questions all the time, so I thought I might make this new lil pinned post to help everyone out! But first, I want to thank you all for visiting my blog!

How do you get the retro/vhs effects on your art?

I actually made a tutorial on that here! But honestly at the end of the day it’s a lot of “I plug this picture into several different apps and video editing software.” I wish I could give you a simple answer, but there is no easy way to do it that’s the same every time. I rarely if ever do it the same way back to back. Some colors look better when edited in Photoshop, some in Photomosh Pro. I pay almost $100 a month to have access to all of the software I use to make these effects because it’s part of my job. But luckily you can find so many free tutorials and apps out there, you just need to be curious and try new things!

What do you use to draw?

Another vague answer whoo! Sorry, but I use so many things to draw! But usually it’s sketch/ink/color/shade in Paint Tool Sai, and then move it to Photoshop to add the background, effects and details. I also use Procreate and Clip Studio from time to time. When it comes to traditional, it’s usually standard cardstock or a mixed media sketchbook. Then I draw and color with microns, copic pens, jelly rollers/gel pens, prisma colored markers and copic markers. 

Did you draw the backgrounds in your art? And if you use screenshots, where do you get them?

In the majority of my pictures, I use screenshots from old cartoons. I get these screenshots from the shows themselves. My friend is kind enough to set up a program that takes snapshots hundreds of times during the show. Then when the episode is over, they send them to me. I then spend HOURS, going through thousands of images and delete all but the good pieces. A majority of the time they take a lot of editing to be usable. I have to clean them up, remove character and scale the images.

This isn’t always the case however! I do often draw my own backgrounds! If you ever want to know, feel free to ask!

As for the more aesthetic/abstract backgrounds, I make those myself! I spent far too much money buying licenses and rights to use tons of different patterns and vectors. With those, I love recreating authentic backgrounds in the style of those seen in the 80s and 90s!

I see you draw a lot of Transformation/Chubby/(insert common movie trope here). Are you a fetish artist?

No, I am not a fetish artist. Do I draw art that might be someone’s fetish? Do I take commissions from people with a fetish for this subject matter? Yes, of course. But people need to realize, furry characters alone are a kink to some people. For me the difference is in how it’s drawn. And I personally do not draw my art in a way that sexualizes the piece.

I love drawing transformation scenes, people being swallowed by a monster, extra big tummies, but not because it’s something that I find hot. I just like drawing fun scenes. I get bored of just drawing a character standing in place all the time. I like drawing wacky scenes! 

A lot of my love for these come from cartoons. Edmund getting turned into a cat in Rock a Doodle. Hercules getting swallowed by the hydra. Kaa hypnotizing... everyone xD It’s just a story telling tool and sometimes it’s fun to draw! I’m not into hypno but I do like drawing big, colorful eyes. I’m just whatever about tf but I love drawing the swirling magic effects and the character changing from human to animal. It’s just cool to me!

In short, when I draw these things, it’s like I get to draw scenes from cartoons and movies in my style. It’s so wonderful to attempt to emulate some of the effects and details they used in movies from my childhood. It’s not about the hand changing into a paw for me, it’s the magical sparkles and how it’s so bright and vibrant compared to everything else. Where you see it go from hand to paw, that’s what I love drawing about tf art! Or being able to exaggerate the body and make a character look weighty by making them really round. Getting to draw a comically big mouth, giving a fun and interesting perspective shot. I think that stuff is so neat! Because it’s art!

I don’t care if it is someone’s fetish. I’m not drawing it in a way that’s sexual. Heck, it even says I wont in my TOS! Everything is G-PG here in Sunday’s Playzone! I’m not here to make that kind of content. It’s okay if adults have fetishes, and so long as you and others aren’t sexualizing my art, all is well!

🍂 You caught a nasty cold that was spreading among the NRC student body on campus as the season changed from a warm summer to a chilly fall.

🍂 You didn’t want Leona to catch your cold, so you told him you wouldn’t see him or any of your friends until you got better.

🍂 You also sent Grim to stay at Heartslabyul for a few days so that Grim wouldn’t catch your cold either.

🍂 However, you were bummed because you wanted to bake pumpkin pie with Leona at Ramshackle. You were looking forward to baking pumpkin pie with Leona once the fall season started.

🍂 The Ramshackle Ghosts took care of you, making sure you drank plenty of water and took the required medicines. All three of the ghosts cooked a large pot of hearty noodle soup for you as well.

🍂 Leona missed you terribly, making him more visibly grumpy at Savanaclaw.

🍂 Leona had his phone next to him at all times, and would snatch his phone every time he got a notification only to say “Tch” when it was just an app notification. He didn’t want to call you a lot throughout the day either because he knew that you needed rest.

🍂 Ruggie was always shocked to find that Leona would be gone from Savanaclaw in the mornings. Leona would go to Ramshackle every morning before you woke up to give the Ramshackle ghosts some medicine that Leona asked his royal family’s physician to send him (even though you only had a cold), porridge from Mr. S’s Mystery Shop, or one of his thick, brown-and-gold patterned blankets.

🍂 In his packages to you, Leona would also include little notes he wrote in neat cursive.

🍂 Such messages would read: “Hope ya like the porridge and snacks I got you. I miss you.” The written messages got longer and more detailed as the days passed: “Today, Cheka came to visit me. He was sad that he couldn’t see you, so we picked some flowers for you from the Botanical Garden. I also left you a drawing that Cheka made for you. Love you.”

🍂 Your smile widened when you rummaged through the bag Leona gave the ghosts today, taking out a drawing of stick figures of you, Cheka, and Leona with “Get well soon!” written in messy crayon handwriting in your favorite color (the cub had asked his “Oji-tan” Leona to spell “Get well soon” for him).

🍂 You then took out the carefully wrapped bouquet of yellow-orange chrysanthemums, lavender asters, and rosy dahlias. Your sense of smell was returning, and the fragrant scents of the flowers wafted up your nose.

🍂 You missed hearing Leona’s voice, so you grabbed your phone on your bedside table and video-called Leona.

🍂 Leona picked up on the first ring and laid back against his bed’s polished oak headboard. The familiar sight of Leona with his dashing smirk and emerald gems for eyes (which sparkled at the sight of you) made you feel a lot better.

🍂 “You got me flowers?” You hugged the bouquet to your chest with one hand while your other hand angled your phone so that Leona could see you with the flowers.

🍂 “Yeah,” Leona couldn’t stop the smile growing on his face at seeing your face. Before he could ask you how you were feeling, Cheka’s fluffy light-brown lion ears popped up on Leona’s phone screen.

🍂 “Y/N! I miss you!” Cheka pressed his button nose against Leona’s phone screen. Leona gently pulled the cub away from the screen, and Cheka laid his head against Leona’s shoulder.

🍂 “I miss you too, Cheka! Thank you for the drawing and flowers, I love them,” you beamed, showing Cheka the flowers.

🍂 “Hey, I picked most of the flowers,” Leona grumbled, turning to his side to face away from Cheka to have some alone time on video call with you.

🍂 The cub pounced on Leona’s side to see you, his tiny arms resting on Leona’s muscled arm.

🍂 “Y/N, Y/N! I wanted to eat the bugs on the flowers, but Oji-tan took them off and told me they’re not tasty and safe. Have you eaten bugs before?”

🍂 You chuckled, wishing you had seen Cheka trying to eat bugs and Leona stopping him.

🍂 “I have not, but I agree with your uncle that they’re probably not tasty or safe. You wouldn’t want to get a tummy ache, right, Cheka?”

🍂 Cheka tapped a finger to his chin, contemplating for a bit before answering your question. “Yeah, I don’t want a tummy ache!” Leona turned to look at his nephew, wondering who told Cheka that bugs were tasty and safe to eat.

🍂 After chatting a bit with Cheka and Leona, you grew tired and needed to rest once more. Cheka gave you a goodbye kiss through Leona’s phone, telling Leona to do the same. “Oji-tan, you have to give Y/N a kiss! Mama and Papa told me that kisses make everything better!”

🍂 “...Alright, alright.” Leona brought the phone screen to his face, making a quick and slight kissy face at you. “Mwah.”

🍂 Cheka giggled at his “Oji-tan”’s funny expression. Leona quickly ended the call before you could screenshot Leona’s attempt at a kissy face.

🍂 On the day you pretty much recovered from your cold, you called Leona. He was at your dorm in five minutes with a large brown paper bag in his hands. His lion tail wagged behind him as you opened the door.

🍂 Leona stepped into the foyer of Ramshackle, heading straight to your kitchen without giving you a hug or a kiss.

🍂 “What’s in the bag?” you followed him, peering at the bag in Leona’s arms.

🍂 “Ingredients for pumpkin pie. You wanted to bake a pumpkin pie together when fall started, right?” Leona already made his way into the tiny Ramshackle kitchen. “Now we can.”

🍂 After setting down the bag on the kitchen table, Leona turned around and enveloped you in a hug. His arms wrapped around your waist while your arms naturally found their way around his broad shoulders.

🍂 “I missed you,” Leona mumbled into your hair before pressing kisses onto your cheek.

🍂 “I missed you too,” you cupped his cheeks in your hands, causing Leona to nuzzle his right cheek against your left palm. “I loved everything you brought for me these past few days, especially your notes and the bouquet. I hated not being able to talk to you or see you in person. It’s better with you here.”

🍂 “Of course it is,” Leona teased, grinning as the two of you laid out the ingredients to make the pumpkin pie.

🍂 Baking with Leona turned out to be a really efficient process since he treated it like a science experiment, making sure that all the measurements for the sugar, pumpkin purée, and such were accurate.

🍂 Still, Leona had one arm around your waist the whole time, clinging to you more than the bits of stray pumpkin purée on your’s and his faces. It was funny seeing an electric mixer get the best of Leona, who didn’t know how to use it at first and accidentally turned the speed up too high when trying to mix the pumpkin purée mixture for the pie.

🍂 You couldn’t contain your giggles when Leona sneezed at the strong scents of pumpkin spice and cinnamon. He kept saying that he didn’t understand the “herbivore hype of pumpkin spice.”

🍂 Soon, a perfectly-baked pumpkin pie filled Ramshackle with the comforting scents of pumpkin and cinnamon. The pie sat on the kitchen table to cool next to a vase of still-fresh flowers, the ones that Leona gave you just days ago.

🍂 The kitchen also filled with your and Leona’s laughter as the two of you tried to wipe off bits of pumpkin purée from earlier off of each other’s faces.

Thoughts, Thoughts, Blog #5

Just finishing The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle has paradoxically given me more to think about. I often find that I do identify with my mind in a way that was reinforced by intellectualism and always doing what's right. But what if what is right is simply what is? It is going to be hard as all hell to dis-identify with my mind and to find the Now that I have always struggled with engaging in. Maybe the first step is no longer believing I have trouble with it because i had trouble with it in the past. Tolle goes on and on about just feeling and, quite frankly, at this moment I could not tell you what feeling even feels like. I know my breath. I know my heartbeat and even the cellular vibrations of my body. So, I must know myself because there really is nothing more to it. I have always existed in a world that is grandiose in scale compacted into the tight maze-like confinements of my own thinking but all that does is just cause stress because I will never be able to grasp it all. And that is okay. I can expand it out over larger surface areas, starting with my heart, then my throat, down to my root and all over my body until it reaches the source of all my suffering: an overactive crown. Being present is like being high (but just the right amount). My presence eludes to nothing but my true essence of who I am. I tried doing this while on an hour drive back to my home. I will admit, things were clearer. Colors, sounds, people's road intentions and car quirks were more apparent to me, but I also didn't care. Not in the apathetic sense but in the sense of peace and hope that they got what they wanted out of their decisions in the moment. I cannot make those decisions for them, like not riding the ass of the car in front of you going almost 80mph. Oftentimes I find myself getting extremely frustrated over the actions of others simply because that is something that I would not do personally. I wouldn't keep a pet knowing I could not take care of it fully or give it the active life it deserves. I would not leave my children to learn and fend for themselves, coming together as a collective to dispel each of their familial traumas. I couldn't bear to think for one second that I was inferior. That I was threatened by the image of greatness because that was not the image I had projected onto myself. And even then, that image does not matter. And a part of me thinks, well doesn't that feel like envy? Aren't I just making things and people and life-happenings small to make myself feel better? And still, as I'm writing this, it feels to be that way sometimes.

Instagram has been proven to be a pretty rough social media app for me to wrap around safely and in a way that doesn't make my heart hurt. A lot of the time, no matter how I seem to interact on IG, it makes my chest tight. Why? Does the why even matter? Typing this, I feel it now, and yet I couldn't care less about the source. It's so perfectly curated as a crux for my incessant need to be focused on others as a mirror reflection of myself. Am I doing this look right? What are the people loving right now? Do people think I'm weird for the way Saiya is presented on this platform. But in being so consumed in the image and successes of others, I have neglected myself and I have neglected honest and open expression of myself on MY page. I have maybe.....7 posts up now, and this is after something I do often where I practically wipe my profile clean of evidence I existed in a way that was less than favorable to myself. There's nothing wrong with that. But where do I draw the line between favorable to myself for not being authentic and favorable to myself for not conforming to the aesthetics surrounding me.

When you identify with the mind, the aesthetics surrounding you will never be the same as you. I guess this is just a Saiya-fied version of what our man Eckhart was saying, where the ego is a mean, combative, eating machine. Identifying with the mind is a constant overflow of needle pricks, telling me I'm not good enough in areas that a conscious me could give less of a fuck about. Being conscious means being open. Being open means replacing myself in the collective. And replacing myself in the collective means beginning to see that I belong, just as I am. l, without any alteration and only instantaneous growth within the present moment. Because, let's face it, we are still growing. Though I do not belong to the past nor the future, my cells are in constant death and rebirth and my breath continues to fluctuate between inhale and exhale. But being present and in the now is recognizing each step as a momentous occasion, and not just steps to becoming new tissue.

It's hard to regain sanity after wanting it so bad, confined within the mind of transparent insanity. Knowing I could escape at any time but also waiting for a loved one to visit with a nail file or spoon in a cake for my prison break. This brings me to the Malcolm X movie, which admittedly I didn't pay much attention to this last watch through because of my state of mental imprisonment. What I do remember that stuck with me is that in prison he was going through this exact thing, but in what seemed like MUCH more dire of a situation. I can say confidently, to this day, I have never been in jail and I don't intend to, but seeing him solitarily confined and having to take all that he is and make that enough was eye opening. Prison could have killed him. Not physically, but spiritually. And he arose a new man outside of his circumstances.

Maybe The Autobiography of Malcolm X will be a part of my next reads. I feel as though maybe I will get something even more that will help me step along this journey, but for now I continue to write. It all comes back to writing. It's expansive and helps me remember that it is always bigger than me. I think that sometimes we believe that fiction writers conceive the ideas for an entirely fictional world from the sources of their mind-and some very much do. But the real fiction stories that touch others and reaches across any "label" we can give ourselves (whether that be color or where on the horizontal timeline our consciousness started), can only be brought about the same way true conception can. Through the feelings of the body and the compelling of the spirit to exist despite the almost impossible odds of being in reality. And, thus, impossibility loses all meaning really.

The Perks of Being Open-Source

As promised, here's something about the plug-ins for Stable Diffusion, the only AI image generator that's open-source, and makes for a great testbed for related research because of that.

The outcome of this research are various plug-ins and modifications that allow Stable Diffusion to do a lot of interesting things. And the authors? Hooboy, you would be surprised. It turns out that very serious companies, ones you would suspect of cooking their own tech of this kind on the side even if they haven't announced it publicly, build interesting things and share it for free.

Let's start with Semantic Segmentation. If an AI image generator makes images based on text input, Semantic Segmentation scans images, identifies elements and assigns text descriptions to them. A lot of serious companies have released open-source code of their implementation: you have Nvidia, Google, Meta and even Alibaba building that stuff. It might sound kinda underwhelming if fairly useful for helping visually impaired people (for example, Facebook uses it to generate alt texts for images posts automatically), but here's the kicker: Semantic Segmentation may be used in Stable Diffusion to automatically generate masks based on text description. Want to find a hand and redraw it to be more anatomically correct? Easy. How about changing the hair color without monkeying with it in Photoshop? Also easy. So easy that some basement-dwelling chud can script it to find the clothes on a woman and draw a nude body in their place (and did, and got himself in trouble when another teenage chud uploaded photos of girls from his class to the app).

Semantic Segmentation is the core of the popular Stable Diffusion extension called aDetailer: as I mentioned before, Semantic Segmentation can recognize what a hand is, even if it's distorted, and point the generator to inpaint a better version in its place. Same goes for the faces. And that's the two things aDetailer is built to fix.

Another thing are ControlNets: plugins that allow you to nudge the generation process a particular way, be it recreating the pose of a character down to hands and fingers (or just the face orientation and expression), following the outline of a sketch and filling in the details, even maintain perspective using depth maps. And then, based on that tech, you have PhotoMaker, created by Tencent's Applied Research Center, and its improved version, IP Adapter. The capabilities are impressive, particularly if you remember that a slightly outdated gaming PC can run Stable Diffusion at a decent pace with no need for an internet access, even with the plugins.

Also, with OpenAI's video generator Sora looming on the horizon, you should know that the first AI-generated (or at least redrawn) videos were created in Stable Diffusion as well. I don't intend to go down this rabbit hole for practical reasons (I have no need for using it for that particular purpose and my video card is a bit outdated), but it was on the sweaty basement-dwelling nerds to figure out how to fine-tune the whole thing to be consistent across a whole fuckton of frames, and they did it, the crazy sonsabitches.

So laugh all you want at the ornery, wobbly Stable Diffusion producing rounded, fractal blorps and fucky hands. Even basic capabilities like inpainting and outpainting still make Midjourney jealous, and if you look at the plugins, you can imagine a good few use cases you could never wring out of the competing algorithms - and run them on your own PC for free instead of relying on centralized black boxes with a monthly fee.

Fundi's Review/Reflection

In this course we have covered a range of different things, focusing in on the 3 different types of software that we need to learn and become masters at, for this overall course. Those three softwares are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. I have had a decent amount of experience in Illustrator and Photoshop from past courses so I was already familiar with a large amount of these things learnt though there was a lot of helpful things still. To give a brief description of these two softwares, Photoshop is very useful for doing things like image adjustments and editing because of the fact that PS works in pixels whereas Illustrator is very handy for creating graphics from paths, shapes and text as Illustrator works with Vectors. You can also work between the two to create even nicer looking graphics. The last software we learnt was InDesign, in which I had had absolutely no experience with so this was the first time i had used it. It is very helpful to make layouts and spreads and format them nicely.

In each of these software apps, we learnt specific process and functions with-in each of them respectively which will all be very useful in our courses overall. Some examples of these functions that were learnt in Photoshop that are useful in image adjustments are the Curves, Hue/Saturation and Color Balance menus. We learnt and experimented with these menus to familiarise ourselves with how to use them and what to use them for. Other useful PS functions that we looked at were the use of masks, the use of layers and how to use them, smart objects and object selection to name some of the more important skills. Some of the functions that were learnt in Illustrator was the use of anchor points and handles, how to draw paths more specifically curved paths, how to make shapes and color them as you wish from these paths or just in general, and what I feel is extremely important skill to have in AI, the use of the pen tool. Finally some of the useful things we learnt in InDesign was how to make, edit and apply paragraph/character styles, how to use images in InDesign and what you can do with them (as it is not the same as the other two softwares) and, how to use columns/parent pages when making a spread. I also became familiar with a large amount of new Keyboard shortcuts in each of these applications

Though I am overall quite happy with how this course has gone, there has still been a few problems along the way and a few things I could have done better. One main thing that I could have done better was managing my time especially with going away and being absent from a few classes which has always been a bad habit of mine. I mean this in terms of writing these tumblr posts directly after the lesson instead of letting them build up for a few weeks as this is what I had done a few times throughout this course finding myself procrastinating trying to write that weeks blog post, and I was also adamant to have my posts in order so most of my posts sat in my blog archive until I had done missed homework tasks in between class work posts. Another thing I wish I could have done better would be to have spent more time on a few of the homework tasks as I have quite obviously rushed one or two of these and have now no time togo back and do a better job of them. Something that I feel like I have done well in this course that I have not done well in the past was the management of my files in my folders, I feel I kept these folders neat and orderly making it easy to go back and find any files that I need.

I feel like I have gained a large amount of knowledge from this course though and have a whole new skill set for my courses to come. If I was to choose a part that was most useful for me personally, I would probably say the InDesign section, more specifically the formatting parts of this in terms of paragraph styles and parent pages as I had never used this app before and we were required to use it for one of our DT1 projects so learning all these things just before starting this project I found extremely useful. In summary:

Likely one of the smartest people in the room and well aware of it. Polite enough to refrain from being cocky unless an opportunity to show off and embellish the fact with sarcasm arises.

Best described as an observer and a charmer. Rodolphus has a way of words that is pleasant but packed with a punch. Able to seem calm, collected, and understanding but prone to using words as a weapon and way of getting more information out of people than they thought they were giving away.

Work oriented to the point of burying himself in it and seldom resurfacing. Pulling him away from it had better not turn into a waste of his time or it’s all whoever he is with will hear about.

Hasn’t sworn off relationships but has yet to find someone that can match him. Old fashioned in the sense of wanting an equal partnership between him and whoever he ends up courting. Feels relationships need to be built up on trust and values emotional connection before allowing things to take a physical/romantic/sexual turn.

Family is a weakness; with his being aware of this and still not overly happy about Rabastan having managed to make him prove he'll do just about anything for him.

Rodolphus took in a stray cat. And by taking in, it was more of a case of a window getting left ajar and coming home to the creature chilling on his armchair like it had been living there its whole life.

Primarily sticks to suits and isn't prone to dramatically updating his wardrobe. I will happily accept someone's character trying to convince him to broaden his color choices from black, navy blue, and dark green.

His hair is shoulder-length and well cared for. No idea why I’m going nah give me all the muses that can pull off ponytails but he’ll likely be the one that has me going “that’s why his hair is so big - it’s full of secrets” 😅

Ooof, very excited to explore his eventually aligning with the dark side, but the muse isn't overly in a rush for that.

Birthday:

September 2, 1951. Rodolphus is a Virgo that is very in tune with his need to remain organized and take a practical approach to life. He has a strong need to stick to familial obligations and expectations, taking the responsibilities of being the firstborn son seriously. He takes a methodical approach to everything and is prone to overthinking, often leaving him quiet and carefully analyzing every interaction. He takes pride in appearing cool and collected, using sweet looks and words to get an idea of other peoples’ inner workings.

Wand:

10 inches, black walnut wood, dragon heartstring core. Rodolphus needs a new wand, having learned the hard way that black walnut is a powerful and fickle wood. Two decades of working brilliantly were shattered by his decision to throw Silas’ case to support his brother instead. His inability to be honest with Andromeda and several others about losing the case has caused the wand’s performance to decline. 

Rodolphus’ insight and being overly self-aware made the pair a notable team, with the wand proving to be a reliable partner. There was little thought of the wand’s allegiance ever slipping since he had two decades of partnership with it under his belt and was using the approach of playing to win at his job. Switching it out for something better tempered is unthinkable since it would draw too much attention. He isn’t certain how well-known the wood’s fickleness toward self-deception is and is positive it isn’t worth the risk of those close to him noticing the sudden change in wands if inevitably given a different wood type. It’s only been inconveniencing him recently, so why bother switching if things haven’t approached risking a catastrophe?

Amortentia:

The very idea of being around amortentia is laughable for Rodolphus since he has little time to focus on something as ridiculous as love. He’s been work-oriented since landing his position at the Ministry, and his parents aren’t in a rush to marry him off, so relationships haven’t been something on his mind.

If he were to get near it, the scents of old books, candle wax, and something involving Andromeda would likely come about. Rather unfortunate luck of believing it’s too late to bring those feelings up to Andromeda, though, since he’s too far gone into covering for Rabastan to even think about making a move while keeping secrets from her. It wouldn’t be worth the fallout.

Boggart:

Rodolphus’ boggart isn’t anything overly dramatic. Two things come to mind, with the protectiveness over Rabastan making it worth noting there’s likely a fear of properly losing his brother as the first. Rab in a casket or being handed a life sentence in Azkaban seems reasonable enough to be one of his biggest fears. Rodolphus wouldn’t have gone through the hoops of deliberately blowing a case if he didn’t care deeply for his younger sibling.

The other is simply recognizing that he’s likely had his life planned out since he was old enough to think about it. With the decidedly neutral stance that was encouraged by his father, it had me questioning if getting bullied into taking the dark mark before he was ready for it would be part of his fears. He’s a logical thinker, and I imagine he isn’t a fan of not feeling in control of his own life. Rodolphus recognizes that deliberately losing the case was a smart move for Rabastan but isn’t certain it had his best interests at heart. Word spreads quickly, and he wouldn’t be surprised if it turned into Rabastan, Bellatrix, or a combination of the two trying to rope him into further throwing cases for the sake of a cause he is still gaining information about. Or worse, believing the lapse in full judgment warrants his taking a stance with the death eaters and makes him weak-willed enough to join the ranks without a second thought. Thinking about all that leaves me acknowledging his boggart could be as simple as his reflection with the dark mark on his forearm, having given others a chance to be in control of him.

Patronus:

With an analytical mind and a persuasive way of speaking, it’s no surprise that Rodolphus’ patronus takes on the shape of a buzzard. He was rather thrown off at being able to cast a corporeal one during his school days since it was one of the spells his parents hadn’t exactly encouraged exploring upon realizing their heir was academically inclined. He would usually rely on memories of his family to cast it. The disconnect between wizard and wand has me assuming he cannot cast a patronus now. With enough insult to injury to acknowledge his happier memories of Rabastan are a bit tainted by his wand’s loyalty shifting.

Writing Sample:

“Accio ink,” Rodolphus sighed, not looking up from the case he was reading over. The request and flick of his wrist were accompanied by a clattering noise and the unmistakable sound of glass shattering from the opposite end of his flat. Ordinarily, he would have thought little of it since he had taken in a cat to have something else alive in the place. The evening proved different, though, since there was no denying that his wand had been proving to be temperamental at best recently. Nothing overly dramatic had happened yet, with the few incidents he could recall having been subtle enough for Rodolphus to begin having doubts while at work.

“For Salazar’s sake, I’ll get it myself,” The brunette muttered when the jar of ink failed to appear at his side. He added a glare at his wand before abandoning it on the armchair he had claimed, hoping to whatever higher being was listening that the cat had simply intercepted things. Luck wasn’t on his side since there were no pawprints scattered around the shattered glass and splattered ink on the marble floor.

An exasperated sigh escaped upon spotting the mess, and he snapped his fingers, not needing to breathe a word for the house elf to clean up the mess. He remained still and assessed the damage with a scowl. Things were getting worse, with more basic spells proving to work inconsistently. It was overly frustrating since it meant needing to deal with it or get a wand that would better align with himself. The feelings of guilt toward the shift hadn’t hit until realizing having acted in his brother’s best interests instead of winning what would have been a clear-cut case. Mixed feelings on the matter had to be enough to make the wand presume he was no longer worthy.

“I’m going to kill Rabastan if he doesn’t beat me to doing so himself,” Rodolphus muttered under his breath, then grabbed a new jar of ink, needing it to finish up the sentence he had left off on before being able to call it a night.

UNIVERSITY WITH MENTAL ILLNESS

Mental health and illness is already hard enough, but adding school pressure on top is hard. High school was easier for me since there is a lot more structure and a lot less choice, which is why I'm targeting this towards college and university students.

Firstly is attending class. Getting to class is a major hurdle, especially with a commute like me (1 hour+) broke people problems lmao. Driving that long to go to a class just to drive back home is already exhausting and unpleasant, especially knowing professors will post slides or something after class anyways. But you have to drag yourself there. One thing I do to help is dress up. I'll do my makeup and put on nicer clothes. Why does this work for me? I hate wasting stuff, especially money and to me, putting on makeup is spending money essentially (same logic as using rare items in a video game idk). I can't just sit around the house and waste the money I just put on my face so I gotta go to class. Small things like this to trick your brain works so well. Before this, there was a restaurant I absolutely loved next to campus so if I went to every class for two weeks I would reward myself by going there. Another thing that helps is making plans with people ahead of time. They'll hold you accountable on days that you can't.

Take rest days. Schedule one whole day a week where you don't do school or go to work. It's a day completely off for anything. I use this day to do chores in the morning and then just lay around and do absolutely nothing all afternoon and night. This helps recharge and reduce stimulation and socialization. It gives your brain that little rest it cries for every day. I used to panic so much about this one day because I could be working and making money or studying or doing anything to be productive until I had a week where I couldn't do anything because I broke down completely, mentally and physically. Now I see it as a preservation day. I use this day to recover from everything.

Make your notes pretty. I hate going back and looking at my messy class notes. Everything is scattered and messy and I get frustrated. What I do instead is make a virtual, concise copy that is pretty to me. I'll add little sketches, color, pictures, etc. This helps draw my attention and allows me to study while doing it! Making the second copy forces you to go through the material after a class is over and review the material to decide what is truly important and then organize it all and then rewrite it all. This has been a huge help.

Use class breaks to snack or grab coffee. One thing I have found in many people with high anxiety is that food and drinks really help calm you down. I've found some research suggesting it's because food is a signal that things are safe and therefore makes you more relaxed, though I don't know much about anthropology and psychology fields. I find this really helps to calm me down after I had a very stressful test so that I can be more present for the next class. Gum helps a lot on high anxiety/panic days as well.

Download the notes or slides, especially if posted ahead of time. This way you have access even if you don't have wifi. You can even pull them up in lectures so you don't have to focus on the board the whole time. For my people with autism, this has helped me so much. There are times where you can't focus on the professor and the slides and the sounds and writing, so doing this cuts out having to watch the teacher and the board. Bonus points if you can record during lecture as well so you can revisit parts that you zoned out in or couldn't focus on.

Keep a journal or diary and list your activities, food, weather, etc in it as well as your mood. This can help you find correlations to hack shit. My favorite way of doing this is through the Daylio app (I wrote a post about it here). Like I notice that days when it's rainy, I study and read more and days where I walk more and eat breakfast, I focus better and am happier overall. This information helps so much. If I know it's going to rain tomorrow, I won't try to force myself to study a bunch today and instead save that energy for later. Instead, I'll take care of myself and go for a walk or something. Knowing how you work and why really makes a HUGE difference.

This might just be my autism brain, but finding cool things related to the topic at hand has helped me keep interest in at least a little of the subject, helping me study more. Like I don't like chimaeras (a fish group) BUT for some reason I love fish teeth and these fishes have a very unique tooth set. This at least let's me know something instead of just ignoring and forgetting everything. 20% is better than nothing.

Find a reason to study what you do, even if it's just that you need this class to graduate. Just taking classes for no reason seems like something neurotypical people are able to do. I can't do it. I need a reason and if I can't find one, I just give up. I used to always say it was useless and pointless and didn't understand why it was required. But I realized the reason to take it is because I want a piece of paper that says I traded lots of money and sanity for it. And that reason has to be good enough.

Make study games. Games are more fun than lifeless paper. Matching games, crosswords, coloring pages, whatever you like!

Toy Detective Masterpost!

This is how I look for toys online to help people find their missing buddies. This guide will mostly be for the U.S. because that’s where my experience lies. This should tell you both how to look for something of yours, and how to help people out online!

Asking for Help -The best two places to ask for help are reddit.com/r/helpmefind, and the facebook group Plush Memories Lost Toy Search Service.  You can also post on lostmylovey.com.

-When asking for help, try to come up with the most detailed description of your item as possible. try to differentiate between what you’re less sure about and what you’re absolutely positive about— memories can play tricks on us!

-An image says more than any description. If you don’t have a photo of the item itself, a drawing can be super helpful for getting across the pose and proportions.

-Here are some questions to get you started in describing your item: What kind of animal, character, or object was it? What colors was it? How big was it? Around what year would you have gotten it? Do you know where you got it? Did it come from a crane game or arcade? What pose is it in (sitting up, lying down, etc)? Did it have joints? If a plush, was it filled with stuffing, beans (like a beanie baby), both, or something else? Were the eyes plastic or stitched on? What about the mouth? How stylized was the face— was it cartoony, realistic, somewhere in between? What texture was the fur (ex: terrycloth, velvety, coarse, wooly, fluffy, stringy)? Do you remember it being in a ‘set’ with any other items? Do you remember anything about its tags?

Searching -The first place I search is almost always picclick.com, which lets you see current eBay listings in a grid view.

-When I’m looking for an item that I’m not personally familiar with (for example, on someone else’s description), I scan along the images looking for specific characteristics. For example, I might search something like “vintage white bear plush”, and look very quickly across the images, stopping only when I see ones with a pink plastic nose (assuming in this case that that’s something the person remembers). Then I cross-reference the ones I stop at with the description I have to see if it could match.

-If you have a brand name or even better, the specific name of the item, search that first. Then expand to get more general. Think about what a seller is likely to highlight in their listing— they may not put “plastic eyes” in the title of the listing, but they might put something that seems special, like “heart nose”.

-For claw machine plush, try searching for the following brand names with what you’re looking for: fiesta, peekaboo, king plush, national entertainment network, toy network, carnival toy co, national prize & toy co, toy factory, kellytoy, teddy time, emerald toy co. for example, “fiesta green cow”.

-If even a general search doesn’t get you far, try looking through toys sold in lots, especially if you need to find a photograph of your item. For example, “vintage plush frog lot”.

-Another place to search for information is worthpoint.com, which is an archive of sold eBay auctions. If your item can be distinctively described (for example “vintage yellow pink bunny plush gund”) and there’s still no trace on eBay, try looking on worthpoint. It might give you an old auction with a photo, a brand name, a toy line name, etc. 

-If you’ve posted asking for help someplace, keep your post updated with any new pictures or information you find. If you find a picture but not an active listing, save the photo to your device. Old listings can often expire since so much information passes through eBay every day.

Buying Tips -If you find what you’re looking for, but it’s too expensive, try adding the listing to your watchlist. Especially if the item has been for sale for a long time, sometimes the seller will send you a offer. This works on eBay as well as secondhand selling apps like Mercari.

-If shipping is super expensive and is “expedited”, as the seller if they would be willing to ship standard. Some sellers set the shipping to expedited by accident!

-You can ask sellers if they’re willing to split lots. They might say no, but it’s worth asking.

-Similarly, you can ask sellers if they will re-list items that ended without being sold. Often they will if they know they have a buyer (you!)

it gives him such smug satisfaction knowing the affect he has on you when he’s not even physically there

picks up take-out when he knows your too tired to or would rather not cook

like to back hug you and wrap you up with his wings

9/10 times will bury his face in your neck and nuzzle

sometimes if he spots you while on patrol, he’ll fly over and flirt with you
