to be fair: this is from the comic adaptation of the 1990 film, not from the canon Mirage continuity. The film itself is a rough adaptation of original comic storylines, but makes sure to keep seeding in pure comedy scenes like this one, to match expectations set by the wildly popular cartoon.
but to be even more fair: the Mirage comics were also plenty goofy in their original form. They got to have cool fight scenes with real blood in them and say “damn” and “hell” sometimes, but there were also plenty of pop culture gags and silly swear replacements along the way.
I think this mischaracterization is at least partially a product of Gatekeeping Comic Bros, honestly. They found out that there was an original indie comic at the root of the extremely mainstream TMNT sensation, and they loved being able to “hey did you know?” people about it. Because these kinds of guys also tend to value Hardcore above all, the comics got caricatured as this ultra-violent thing that you could never put in front of a kid when... no, they’re really not. They’re just more mature than the 1987 toy commercial cartoon for kids (I say with the utmost fondness).
You might even be able to keep that impression if you’ve only read #1 (which was meant as a parody, juxtaposing the dark visual intensity with the ridiculousness of the premise); but by the time #2 rolls around, the characters get real dialog, we meet April for the first time, and the more moderate tone and goofs are already starting to come out. Anyone who seriously argues that there needs to be an R-rated TMNT film to adapt it “properly” has simply not read the OG comics.
TMNT I (1990)

Cardfight!! Vanguard Extra Story IF 21 things
WHAT A GOOD FUCKING EPISODE
A running theme through the episode: whoever directed the visuals is a godsend.
Initially had wondered if the opening scenes within the first world were going to shine some light on the Tatsunagis’ past. Throwing the viewer into the deep end alongside Suiko was a clever decision, allowing us to feel her confusion all the more effectively.
Also the system for the girls’ ranger world is super-neat. Spin-off when?
Cards continuing their gimmick of being incredibly lethal.
The entirety of the fight with the Vanguard unit was spent thinking of the irony that it and Aichi share goals, so had a brain cell laughing at the suggestion the girls were simply on a filming set and he was the one in costume.
immediately after: Oh. Oh my fuck.
me: don’t do it. don’t do it. brain: Singularity F!
obligatory Long Live the King memeage
The claim that Kourin’ll search for a world Suiko likes smacks of irony given Suiko has her world she likes and has been fighting all along for it. It’s simply a world that Kourin approves of for Suiko to lose herself and how they handled it was stellar.
Just Miwa being cute. That is all.
Can someone inform Aichi that him getting into Vanguard has nothing to do with the Kais abandoning their son?
How dare you say such shit with such a sweet smile.
Curious how the Cardfight Club existed with four members (unless the other three were also signed up but simply not present). This world in particular is peculiar with its presumably aging up Rekka and the sisters not knowing one another to begin with. Not to mention how evidently distant Aichi is; the girls swear loyalty to him, but he minimizes his contact with them. Perhaps it’s to do with it being called the Cardfight Club but when he despises the game, have to wonder why he would choose that rather than anything else when the purpose was just to goof around.
Breaks through the door at a monument to Misaki’s existence.
Assuming she was roped into the surfing of worlds prior to Suiko, left to wonder how many worlds Rekka briefly lived in, and how many appealed to her, but she sacrificed to stay loyal to who she is, and just how difficult it must have been.
Thank you writers for giving SK4 Suiko and Rekka excellent names, rip Sanctuary Knight Ibuki.
Link Joker-hen noises in the distance.
I love this crew. That is all.
Whoever wrote this episode is also a godsend, thank you for giving the Tatsunagis some sisterly love.
Kourin: Aichi hates Vanguard. Also Kourin: [flips her shit at Suiko Riding “one of Aichi’s favourite units”].
I’M CRYING YOURE REFERENCING THE ORIGINAL ANIME? YOU DIRECTLY CONNECTED THE TWO CONTINUITIES ILY.
Rena continuing to lose her shit because this entire scene is so good and the girls’ contrasting feelings about Alfred, Vanguard, everything is so wonderfully portrayed. For bonus points; Suiko’s unit belonging to a clan that Aichi chose and stuck with whereas Kourin’s heralds from one he never played in the manga & reboot continuity and was forced onto him in the original.
Had been wondering for quite some time just how Kourin and Suiko remembered anything related to the Reboot anime, so them providing an answer is immensely appreciated.
Also still loving whoever storyboarded this episode. Also very much loving the touch of Suiko being in focus as she challenges Kourin on her choice while Aichi hovers out of focus in the background; with their respective positions in the season and in comparison to their Outside World lives as well as how Kourin risks to lose them, it’s incredible poignant.
"We move forward”. Rockets back to one of the best scenes in epi 7 that I love so much. The fact that Ibuki and Suiko are the ones to speak of the same sentiment is precious.
At the same time, turning the idea onto Kourin and Aichi, with the added visual of the latter, really brought it home. With OverDress’ new cast, our time with these characters is drawing to a close for a second time and with no guarantee we’ll see them again. It’s incredibly bittersweet, particularly when adding in how the Q4 voice actors showed how torn up they were during the live event shortly prior to G’s airing. We were incredibly lucky to get a second run with these characters, so as the audience carries on forward and part ways with them again, having this particular theme front and centre, we’re essentially in the same position as Kourin.
I love this crew. That is all.
As much as tried to discern the glitched figure, unless it’s whatever’s in/controlling/manipulating/whathaveyou Aichi (it doesn’t look human), a Deletor or something related to Brandt, couldn’t even try to guess, they did a good job of obscuring their identity.
IF 22 preview
Babie boy’s cheek looks bruised. Is he still getting bullied? Were you wandering around somewhere to prolong your mother being faced with another afterschool of being beaten up? My heart. He looks incredibly distrustful of Takuto compared to their previous first meetings.
Zooms in on that Akashic Record in Kourin’s hands. Zooms in on Aichi’s hand on his arm. Were you really beaten up? Point me to them! 9′^’9 — Alternatively, he looks uncomfortable, in the same vein as the photo of himself and Emi in their Miyaji uniforms from epi 7, perhaps Takuto's explaining the truth to him and Aichi just can't process such a world because he's weak and timid and simply doesn't have the strength to imagine it.
How can someone be so ominous without a visible expression? The Biggest Fear.
DID YOU RIP OUT YOURS AND KAI-KUN’S PAGE FROM THE AKASHIC RECORD AND THATS HOW NO-ONE CAN GET THERE?
The placement of the four cards is striking; one distanced from the other three. They may be representative of the Q4 members and how far Aichi has drifted as a result of IF’s premise. Though at the same time, even if unintentional, it could be reflective of the young Aichi, who saw Kai-kun, Ibuki and Miwa playing from afar, never closing the distance himself and allowing that space between them to remain.
I have many questions. First of all: is it next week yet?
SCREAMS IN PSYQUALIA. BUT ALSO. It looks darker compared to usual, particularly in the Reboot continuity. Maybe it’s a sign of it not being quite right? That darker huge reminds me of Leon’s Psyqualia during Asia Circuit, so the possibility springs to mind of Void (seeing as the original continuity has been drawn in directly now) or interference by Brandt. If it’s a shot from the explanation regarding what’s happened to him (INTENSE VIBRATING), it could be whatever worming its way in through his Psyqualia.
Akashic Record-related thoughts:
Suiko:
Suiko’s remembrance of handing Alfred to Aichi in the original continuity opens up a huge possibility that she’s aware of the Tatsunagi sisters’ pasts and fate of that timeline. Though the girls of that world themselves never found out about their missing memories, their counterparts may have learned the truth themselves.
Kourin:
Going along the same line of thought, it gives Kourin a much more sympathetic position in that she’s not only experienced losing her memories once, but learned it to be her fate in more than just this world. When threatened with the possibility of losing a treasured period of her life for a second time, coupled with it being apparently inescapable even in other worlds, it’s a hopeless position she’s been put in, so though her motives may be selfish, it’s difficult not to sympathize with her.
Also a curious thought; Kourin’s alternate worlds for Suiko. Using the Akashic Records to surf between them, there’s the possibility that these are all worlds that exist and continue as such without external interference; other worlds where Aichi hates Vanguard, where Ultra Rare exist in different forms. But Kourin also described her actions as “creating” new worlds, so that begs the question of if she’s nonchalantly creating and erasing entire timelines?
Aichi:
The scrap of paper from the preview could very well be the page detailing his and Kai-kun’s first meeting and whatever force is at work, the figure from the glitch, given the ability to keep the distortion locked by its possession of the page through Aichi. At the same time, it might also explain why deviating from IF World’s narrative had such a detrimental physical effect on Aichi or it could be a result of, being the Tatsunagis are the only ones we’ve seen truly handle the book, interfering with its writings without the authority to do so bit Aichi and he’s suffering the consequences of it.
Why go through all this and for someone he shouldn’t know in this timeline? After he (or rather the force inside of him that intervened when they tried to bring him around and lead him back to the correct worldline) handled Takuto and Kourin, Aichi was able to investigate the Akashic Records and see just how much damage was done to Kai-kun; in the Reboot continuity, in the original continuity, maybe even in continuities we've never known of; Psyqualia, Link Joker, Legion Mate, Neon Messiah, the PsyZombie arc — he’s learned of them and how much anguish they put someone incredibly dear to him through (and it need not be just him; Ren, Ibuki, Leon, the Ultra Rare girls, Chrono, the list goes on for how many people have been deeply hurt by being connected to the game). So to protect him, that’s why Aichi targeted and hated Vanguard, not something that’s been brewing for years, but something that exploded when keeping him in his IF existence was threatened, allowing for Emi’s insistence that he’s always been a nice boy hold true.

I have a mighty need. Just Rodimus whump being acknowledged by those around him and him being taken care of. Feeling loved and not a depressed mess. I know it’s not nsfw but. It’s a mighty need to see that boi happy. (And have those around him realise they’ve isolated him feel like slag themselves.) :D
//uuuuh i have another prompt like this for swerve and i’ll be honest i’m not good at this fluffy platonic stuff i love friendship and i love deep friendships but idk how to describe loving caring moments between a ton of people without it seeming cheesy so,,,,//
It had been a long while since Rodimus had let himself sit alone with his thoughts for an extended period. It wasn’t something he made a habit of, not when he could be having fun and goofing around. Sometimes his usual friends just weren’t available; they were doing important things to keep the ship running. His ship, to be exact. Something he could probably spend a little more time doing if he wasn’t so focused on himself...
Rodimus didn’t even realize he had slipped into a silent daze, optics laser focused on the door of his office, until Swerve poked his head in and jumped when Rodimus was staring straight at him.
“Hey, captain! What are you up to?” Rodimus, startled out of his daze, looked to the unfinished forms on his desk. So many data pads. How did Ultra Magnus get through so many reports everyday without going nuts?
“Just uh... just working.” He winced at the sound of his own voice. Who would believe such a blatant lie? What mech would ever believe that Rodimus of all people was doing any work? They would have to be the most gullible person in the universe to think Rodimus was doing anything of worth. Anything worth calling himself captain. Co captain. If he wasn’t on the ship no one would notice. Not when Magnus and Megatron can so clearly take care of everything without him.
“Everyone missed you at the bar last night,” Swerve had a slightly pouty, pensive look on his face, short and chubby finger tapping at his chin plate. “We didn’t think you’d be working so late, but no one wanted to just bust into your room if you were recharging.”
Rodimus perked up, slightly bashful at the implication people were talking about him. “Really? I just didn’t feel like socializing. I didn’t think anyone would notice.”
“Drift, Brainstorm, and Nautica were going to play beer pong, but wanted to wait for you to show up. And Magnus came in three different times looking for you.” Swerve shook his helm, “You don’t know how hard I had to convince him I wasn’t hiding you from work.”
Ah. Rodimus couldn’t help the pleased grin that spread on his face, despite how he tried to stamp it down. People had been looking for him. People had been talking about him. Hopefully they wouldn’t be disappointed he missed last night.
“And Cyclonus might not show it, but he kept looking at the door waiting for you to come in.” Swerve’s face had softened, a more gentle tone to his voice. “We all notice when you’re not there, you know?”
Well, now he just felt ridiculous. Of course his friends cared. Maybe he wasn’t the best captain there ever was, but his friends liked him. They wanted him around.
“Sorry, I’ll be there tonight, though.” Rodimus couldn’t help the warm giddiness in his chest, how he wanted to wrap his friends in his arms and never let go. “Promise!”

Okay, I know we still have the final to go, but given what we've seen so far what's everyone thinking about the Olympic roster? Who you think deserves to make it, who you want to make it, who is a definite no at this point, anything. Now, I basically know jack shit about soccer (I was a field hockey player, oops) but I definitely have some thoughts about who I want/think deserves to make it.
Let's start with the front line, shall we?
Christen Press. I mean, this one is obvious. In what universe does CP *not* make the roster? I'll tell you which universe - none. She's clearly having a moment, she's healthy, everyone loves her. She's in, signed, sealed, delivered. Put it on my grave.
Pinoe. Okay, okay, "she's only good on set pieces" people say. Yeah, and those are pretty important. And aside from last night's somewhat sub-par performance in that department, I think she's looked pretty damn good this tournament. Fit af. Plus there is something to be said for the leadership and experience the older players have to offer. I think the rest of the team respects her and values her, and she's super positive and supportive of everyone, which I love. As long as she stays healthy, she's in.
Heath. Whoo. Honestly, I don't think we got a good look at her, what with her limited minutes. But she's the nutmeg queen, she's great on corners, she's spicy, and she does that nifty little backheel thing. And again - experience. Definitely takes on a mentor role with some of the younger players. She's had some injuries going back to the end of the club season, but as far as I know they've been minor. I still cringe every time she gets fouled, but I think she'll be okay as long as Vlatko continues to be smart about managing her minutes until she's 100%.
AMorgs??? Okay, this one's loaded. I give her major props for continuing her training during pregnancy, and I 100% believe she has the drive to be match fit by July. That said, pregnancy and childbirth are unpredictable. If she ends up needing a c section (which I wish on nobody, fingers crossed for a nice, uncomplicated delivery) I don't think she'll be ready due to the recovery period. That is the only reason I hesitate to say she's going for sure but I am hoping for the best and want only good things for her.
Baby Mal??? I don't know. This is a tough one. As much as I miss her, I will admit to thinking (please don't kill me for this) that she looked kind of lost and unfocused in the friendlies last fall. She has the skills to be there, no doubt, it just seemed to me she wasn't connecting well with her teammates, wasn't anticipating where they would be, etc. But I love her and hope she works shit out.
Carlos??? She isn't starter material at this point. This tournament, for her, seemed to be about getting Carlos to the Olympics, not the USWNT. Not at her best, by a long shot, and unlike Pinoe I don't think the younger players really see her as a leader or mentor. Not gonna lie, I was rooting for her because I admire her drive and dedication to keep going, but she fell short here.
Now, I'm skipping ahead to goalies, because honestly that's the easiest.
Uncle Naeher. Biggest no-brainer along with Press. (Honestly...can anyone give me a valid reason for her not to start? I doubt it.) I think she proved both in international and club play last season that she deserves the starting spot. It's hers to lose, but she won't.
Ashlyn. I hesitate to say I'm 100% sure here, but it's a pretty good bet. Campbell or Bledsoe could sneak in there, but at this point I'm leaning towards not. We really didn't get a good look at where she is right now, what with there not being a whole lot of action on that end of the field, but apparently Vlatko likes her so I'm good with that.
Ugh. Now we have midfield and backs. Honestly the toughest spots to cut anyone because they're basically all looking rock solid.
Rose. Why tf would you cut Rose? That's right, you wouldn't. She's had a solid tournament. Would have liked to see more of her, but benching her against Costa Rica was prob a good call, given her yellow card from the previous game. (Confession - sometimes I feel like she falls in the "looks like she could kill you; would actually kill you" category. Anyone else get this vibe? Not necessarily a bad thing…)
Lindsey. Honestly, I feel like sometimes she doesn't get the credit she deserves. Does she ever have a *bad* game? Even when she's not at her best, she's still The Pretty Good Horan. Solid as a rock. Great one-touch passes. Has perfected the art of the header. Awesome volleys. Just got her first international hat trick, yay! Looks cool, calm, and collected, but is capable of being absolute chaos on main (exhibit A: That Game™ vs Utah). Leaves no square inch untouched as she roams from box to box. Minus last season's concussion (and maybe a minor hamstring injury last fall where she missed a friendly? Am I right?) she's been healthy, which is more than I can say for several others, so there's also that. And she's the love of my life, so I will accept zero criticism on this one.
JJ. She's fast, she's feisty (and sometimes ultra spicy), she and Dunn are adorable bffs, she's a leader. I have nothing bad to say about her. But I'm still kinda salty that Chicago beat Portland in the semis so that's as nice as I'm gonna get. (No hate though, really, she's fantastic.) She needs to stop giving me heart attacks with the couple-pics-that-could-be-pregnancy-announcements, though. One USWNT baby at a time, thanks.
Sammy. Well, she got herself two braces so far in qualifying (okay, that one goal was highly questionable, but the ref said goal so goal it is), so she's definitely made a strong case for herself. She's tall. She's able and willing to catch The Great Horan (you know, because she's the only one taller than The Great Horan). She panics over being the first one on the bus. The only thing I don't like about her? She plays for NCC. But honestly she's adorable, really fucking good, and I love her so I can overlook that.
KO. Okay, I'll admit I was nervous. Her first couple games were a little shaky, she had a few pretty big goof-ups (but I mean when she whiffed that one time she had literally just recovered from a savage attempt at breaking her ankles so I can't even blame her for that) but her ankles were away at war for like 6 months so what do you expect? Last night she was in fine form. She brings a great energy to the game, connects well with Tobito, has the Stanny connection with CP and some cute, newfound friendship thing going on with Horan, and is basically the ultimate hype girl (when she's not being the ultimate frat daddy). When you need a bitch, she's your woman. And she's hot. Like, HOT hot. As long as the ankles hold up, she's gotta be on that roster. I am rooting for those ankles. Hard.
Sonnett. Really did herself a solid with the minutes she had. No complaints from me. Almost scored a goal, and I'm not counting it out in the final. Not afraid to break ankles. She's scrappy, spicy, saucy, a sit-down comedian, a soft smiler, and a package deal with Horan. She deserves the world. The world (or at least the USWNT and its fans) deserves her. Please don't cut her, Vlatko. I beg of you. (I'm not saying if you cut her, I'll cut you, but like...I'm not NOT saying it, either...)
Krieger. What do I need to say except she showed everyone why Jello was an idiot not to play her. She's a beast. And I really, really, really need the wives to both make it bc I will cry if one does and the other doesn't.
Dunn. I mean, have you seen her? She's all over the field. She almost scored during her 100th cap. I've never seen her have a bad game. Voted best dancer on the team. The only problem? See Sammy above. F'n NCC. She deserves better, dammit.
Dahlkemper. Okay, don't sue me, but I really don't have any feelings toward her either way. A lot of people love her. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about her (except this one time I saw someone roast her on IG for following Honkle, but that's her business I guess) so that's good enough for me. Also she's pretty and posts thirsty comments on her teammates pics so basically I stan a supportive Abby.
Broon. Cool as a cucumber. The voice of reason. A literal angel. Captain Becky never lets us down.
Okay. Now for who I don't think will/should make it.
AD. This makes me really, really sad. I love AD. But she's the only player on the roster who didn't get any minutes, so I think that says exactly where she stands in Vlatko's eyes. It's a shame, because she's amazing, but it's super hard to choose between her and Ash.
Lynn. Clearly Vlatko sees something in her, and tried really hard to make it happen. It didn't happen. I was kind of rooting for her, just because everyone else seemed to be against her, but she just didn't seem to connect with the rest of the team. She's fast, I'll give her that, but it's not enough.
Jmac. Another one I was rooting for just because everyone else was against her. She has talent, and when she's on she's great, but she wasn't connecting with the others.
Moe. Nothing against her, just no compelling reason to cut anyone else for her. Injury-prone, which obviously isn't good.
Allie. See Moe, minus the injuries. Bonus points for social media content, though.
Baby T. No clue where she stands with the injury. If she's 100% I have absolutely no reason why she shouldn't be on the team, but I don't know who I'd cut to keep her. If she isn't 100% I'd rather she take the time to heal completely. I know it was reported that she'd be ready to resume training around February, but a while back she herself said she didn't think she'd be 100% by the Olympics so who tf knows. She's SO young and could have 2-3 Olympics (and World Cups) ahead of her so no need to risk a career-ending injury by rushing it. But if she IS ready I'm down for her being an alternate (or, heaven forbid, making roster in the event that anyone else is injured). I like Tierna. I want a long, successful career and only good things for her.
Player I selfishly just want on the team because I like her.
Midge. She was a Thorn, so maybe I'm a little biased, but she's good, she's young (but not *young* young and inexperienced), she's versatile. I like her. A lot.
Okay, that's all I got. Let me know what y'all think.

****************************************************************************************************
Four loitered in the hallway for awhile, listening to the faint voices coming from the far room. A times Fox and Eric’s voices would rise in volume and Four shifted uneasily at the sound. He’d truly thought that Eric and Fox were meant to be, that after years of being alone, his friend and brother was finally going to have the same happiness that Four had with Tris.
Faint stirrings of regret coiled in his gut. He’d come down hard on Fox today, and so had Tris. It had been a knee-jerk reaction when Tris had told him about Fox’s retreat. He realized he was abnormally protective of Eric, to the point of cruelty towards a perceived threat and began to pace to burn off his guilty energy. He’d seen true remorse on Fox’s face as he’d led her down here, and her crying had burrowed deeply into his heart, making him rethink his initial fury. Fox’s reaction was completely understandable once you stopped to think about it. Tris had hit her with a lot; fuck, Eric himself hadn’t been ready to tell her yet because he knew how big of a blow it would be. She already had trouble trusting people, of course she’d have problems adjusting.
Four realized the voices from the room had stopped and he paused in his pacing, listening closer. He’d no doubt that Fox was truly sorry about her actions, but what would Eric do? He was, deep down Four knew, insecure about himself and what he had to offer a partner. Those three dark years of hell had done a number on him, tattooed his soul and psyche. He was worried of falling back into that shadowy place, fearful about devolving, regressing into that monster and maybe never coming back.
“That him?” Four asked, glancing back over his shoulder.
“Yeah, don’t follow too close.” Eric replied, making Four snort with derision.
“I do know how to tail someone, Reap.”
“Yeah, like T-Boone? Fucker could hear you behind him the whole time, it was like a dump truck driving through a-”
“Shhh!” Decker grunted.
Four and Eric fell silent, glaring petulantly at each other for a heartbeat before grinning widely and looking away with a chuckle. Four grew instantly serious, glancing in his mirror before pulling out to follow the obnoxiously chromed Escalade currently carrying their quarry, the equally obnoxious Anthony Fraiy.
Reaper, Four, Decker, Dropkick and a prospect named Seger had left the compound at the ass-crack of dawn this AM in the club’s van, on their way to pay a visit to the slick prick currently concealed behind near-black tint, his vanity plate the ultra douchey ‘WINNING’. It irked them to no end to have to leave their bikes (extensions of their very selves) at home, but they needed stealth, and five Harley’s rumbling down the road were the exact opposite of that. After only an hour on the road Decker’s contact had called his encrypted cell with the news that Fraiy had left LA, was on his way to whoop it up in San Francisco for a few weeks. Immediately Four had gotten cold feet, demanded they return to the compound and make a new plan. The Golden Gate City was new territory, the battleground not set.
“No. I want it done now, while my girl’s not around. That fuck’s been walking around free for too goddamn long. It’s time to pay the piper. We’ll follow him for a while, but I want it done before Fox gets back from Seattle.”
Decker had been on Four’s side, ready to back off and attack another day, but Dropkick was squarely in Eric’s camp, while the prospect wisely kept silent, reluctantly agreeing with Eric only after being pushed to make some type of a decision.
Now they’d been tailing the bastard all day, taking turns driving, watching and learning, while Decker gleaned what info he could from his laptop. Fraiy was being careless right now, partying without care at a large outdoor park, drinking like a fish but surprisingly staying away from the powders and pills offered to him. There was no way that they would grab him there, with dozens upon dozens of witnesses, but Decker had done something extremely clever and even more illegal with his computer, and they’d tapped into Fraiy’s cell phone. After midnight Fraiy had decided he’d stayed clean long enough, called a dealer, and was soon gathering his posse to meet said dealer down by an abandoned pier before heading back to the lavish suite he’d rented at the Four Seasons.
“Thank Christ he’s got a flair for drama.” Four muttered, yawning. “A normal person would find a parking lot, this prick has to go all Hollywood on us.” They’d slept in cycles for the day, at least two awake and watching, following Fraiy as he’d jaunted about town, meeting new douche-canoe clients and flashing cash. “What an asshole.”
Eric’s adrenaline had been raging, in fact he’d been on fire all day watching Fraiy, watching the bastard dance around like he’d never done something so reprehensible as drug and rape a woman, like he was King Shit. Eric’s hands twitched constantly as the Reaper begged to come out and play.
They’d reached the docks first and killed the worthless dealer straight away. He was high as a kite, completely alone and consequently, an easy target; then they sat back and waited for the real objective to arrive. The Escalade had slowed to a stop, music thumping through the windows and a whole gaggle of merry assholes had fallen out. Fraiy and his posse were absolutely oblivious to any danger, laughing and goofing off. The only one paying attention was the new guy; the one Fraiy had just hired a few days ago, a big bastard who never stopped scanning the surroundings. But even he wasn’t ready for what was coming, courtesy of the Reaper.
It had been easy. A necessary evil, all of Fraiy’s posse was dispatched, most of them were too high to even realize there was danger and within seconds it was only Eric and his brothers standing over a babbling, stammering Anthony Fraiy. He’d sobered in a hurry, tried to run but Four had clothes-lined him, dropped him to the ground where he’d delivered a savage kick to his stomach, making him gasp like a fish.
Eric advanced on him, eyes unwavering and Fraiy started to tremble as he saw his impending doom.
“Wh- what do you want?” His voice shook, tears beginning to form in his wide eyes.
Eric didn’t answer immediately and dropped to a crouch next to the shaking man. Fraiy tried to crawl away but the brothers crowded him and he turned his terrified attention back to Eric, now the Reaper. Four could see the change, the very altering of Eric’s posture, the set of his shoulders. His friend was temporarily gone, and in his place was the man who brought death.
“Your soul.” The Reaper replied, his voice cold and Four couldn’t stop a shudder.
He’d stopped begging for mercy an hour ago, was now crying like a baby when the Reaper finally answered his tearful question. “Why? What did I do?”
“Remember Fox Layton?” Fraiy’s face went deadly pale. “The woman you drugged and raped?” The Reaper lightly trailed the gut-hook knife he’d been toying with along Fraiy’s jaw, almost like a lover. “I’m here for her.” Without hesitating he thrust the knife through the meaty part of Fraiy’s cheek and yanked harshly towards his chest, ripping open one side of a Glasgow smile in the howling mans face.
Fraiy’s voice gave out long before he stopped trying to scream.
The body stilled, a few last shivers coursing through the limbs as the Reaper pulled the blade free. In all honesty, Fraiy had held out longer than anyone expected him to, and Four was toying with the idea of suggesting Eric wrap it up, the sun had risen for Christ’s sake, when he’d finally seemed to decide that Fraiy had endured enough, and stabbed him one last time decisively in the heart.
The Reaper stood, his back to Four, still staring down at the twitching corpse, then he turned his head, eyes meeting Four’s and the VP shuddered at the arctic cold in his brother’s eyes. Looking back down at Fraiy, he rolled his shoulders and exhaled heavily before turning to look again at him and Four could only breathe a sigh of relief as he saw Eric back in his friend’s eyes. The Reaper was asleep again, for now.
Slight movement caught Four’s attention and he glanced to his right. The bodyguard they’d thought dead, the only one who’d put up any sort of a fight, was weakly swinging an arm, holding a shaking gun in his hand. There was no time for anything else; the prospect, Seger, standing the closest to the bodies, was moving too slowly to help.
“Eric!” He pulled his gun, but it was too late.
Following Four’s horrified gaze, Eric turned to look and everything was suddenly in slow motion.
A gunshot rang out and everything fell apart.
Fox didn’t appear in the hallway, as Four was half-expecting her too; surely if she broke up with Eric she wouldn’t be staying in there with him and he began to wonder if she’d had a change of heart, if seeing Eric like that, near death and covered in blood had clarified things for her or maybe she’d just finally had time to think and acknowledge what everyone else could already see, that she and the Reaper were made for each other, that their pasts only made them stronger together.
Unwelcome images bombarded Four then, haunting memories he never wanted to go through again but knew he’d see in nightmares for years to come; the shock and first bloom of pain on Eric’s face when he’d turned at Four’s shout and right into the path of the bullet from the bodyguard with nine lives; the way his body had jolted, his faint grunt of surprise. The way his eyes had rolled back in his head as he’d collapsed bonelessly to the ground, his white t-shirt, already stained with Fraiy’s drying blood beginning to darken anew with his own. Screaming like a man possessed Four emptied the rest of his clip into the immortal bastard, would’ve slammed another clip in and emptied that one too if Decker hadn’t grabbed him, knocking the gun from his hand. Dropkick’s face was white with shock when Four finally broke free from Decker and scrambled to reach them. The man was on his knees beside Eric, pressing his hands over his chest while thick blood oozed from between his fingers. Eric was pale, half-conscious and hardly responsive. Seger, knowing he’d dropped the ball and allowed his President to be hurt, wavered on his feet, stunned.
Four had wasted precious minutes trying to get ahold of old Cyrus Packer, finally calling Ace, the President of their brother club down here, the Savages and learning that the infamous (in biker club circles) back alley doctor had OD’d a month ago and the club hadn’t found anyone to replace him yet. Eric was holding on, but he was definitely going to need someone with medical training soon. Feeling real panic, for one of the first times in his life, Four had made the call to try and get back to Doc at the clubhouse, then, after working it out with Ace for the Savages to get down here poste haste and clean up the mess the Hessians were about to leave behind, he’d spent the next three hours in the back of the van freaking the fuck out, begging Eric to stay with him, to stay awake and keep talking, to not die and leave him. Yeah, he hadn’t been in the best frame of mind when they’d arrived at the clubhouse, Eric had stopped responding to them twenty minutes earlier; only the pain of Silkie trying to get a vein and Doc all but digging his finger into the bullet wound had roused him enough to start struggling against them again, his eyes glazed with agony and confusion.
Fox had received the brunt of Four’s panicked desperation and he’d lashed out at her instead of doing what he really wanted to do, which was tear his hair from his head and run screaming around the compound until his fraying sanity finally snapped, anything but confront the reality that Eric could die, that he’d been shot right in front of Four, that he’d failed to protect his friend and brother. There was precious little in his life that Four wouldn’t willingly sacrifice to never feel like that again, to know the helpless terror of watching the life of someone you loved slip away.
He swallowed hard, blinked away sudden tears.
His feet carried him silently down the hallway and he peeked his head quietly around the door.
Eric had rolled partially onto his right side and he and Fox lay facing each other on the bed. They were pressed tightly together, hands clasped, heads sharing the same pillow. Eric’s eyes were closed and he appeared asleep. Although pale, he looked content; his jaw, gritted with pain only a short time ago was relaxed, his body peaceful and pliant.
Fox was still awake, gazing at Eric and the look in her eyes took Four’s breath away. Her hand traced lightly along his stubbled cheek and she was humming quietly, too low for Four to make out what. But the love that was shining in her eyes was what captured his attention; it was something Four had never seen before, it made his chest tighten, sent a sudden stab of guilt right through him at even contemplating the notion that Fox didn’t completely and irrevocably love Eric. It was glaringly obvious that she lived and breathed for this man, right now in this private moment of vulnerability, and Four felt suddenly like a voyeur, like an unwelcome spy.
Pulling back, Four turned and crept away, careful not to make a sound.
As he entered the bar area Tris looked up from a table then stood and stormed over to him.
“Where is she?” She demanded hotly. “Is she in there bothering-” Four grabbed Tris’ arm hard, and stunned, she fell silent. Glancing quickly around to make sure they hadn’t attracted too much attention Four started marching towards the stairs, pulling Tris along with him. He only released her arm once they’d entered their room and he’d shut the door behind them.
“Tobias! What the fuck-” Tris, already riled up, was firing on all cylinders now.
“You were wrong.” He snapped shortly. “We both were.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Fox. And Eric. She’s not trying to run away.”
“Sure the hell looked like-”
“You didn’t give her a chance to process the news. Christ Tris, don’t you remember what she just told you? What that bastard did to her? She has trust issues and rightfully so; and Jesus Fuck, neither one of us helped that by tearing her apart just now. She’s in there right now with Eric, so close they’re practically melded together and Eric’s sleeping like a baby; and fuck me, the look in her eyes, watching him? I’ve never seen someone look at someone else like that before, it’s like Romeo and Juliet level shit!”
Tris fell silent, and the belligerence that had been blazing in her eyes weakened. She started to worry at her bottom lip, gaze flicking from the floor to Four and back again.
“We owe her a fuck of an apology.” Four stated flatly. “But not right now, let them have some quiet time together.”
Tris nodded humbly, eyes flicking up at Four’s before dropping again. Like Four, she’d been too caught up in defending Eric to react rationally and, now that she was aware of that, felt a sharp stab of guilt.
“Are you okay?” She asked quietly, and Four knew what she meant. Was he still reeling from the shock of seeing Eric near death, of watching him bleed out? Was he going to be able to sleep tonight or was he just going to lay there silently, staring at the ceiling, or sitting down in the bar in the dark, smoking a joint and nursing a drink, waiting for the sunrise?
Four shook his head, closing his eyes and bit his lip as he felt Tris wrap her arms around him, then he let his head fall to rest on hers and, for a few short minutes, let himself cry.
***************************************************************************************************************************************************** Eric woke first, grimacing as his eyes opened and daylight struck him. He felt sore, disjointed, yet oddly content and his lips pulled into a smile when he saw the reason for his contentment. Fox was still asleep, long lashes brushing her cheeks, her skin pale, making faint freckles stand out. Her hand was curled tightly in Eric’s and he saw faint, dried tears on her cheeks, the pillow they shared still damp underneath her face.
When she’d confessed to him last night that she now knew the truth of his dark past, and that her first instinct had been to run, Eric hadn’t known what to do. The pain in his chest was suddenly nothing, the barest twinge compared to the anguish flooding his heart. If Fox left him, and over something like that, something he couldn’t change, then Eric might as well just stop fighting, stop living, just tear the stitches holding his bullet wound together and let his blood flow again, only this time, watch it surge across his chest and not try with everything he had to stay, to fight not to leave. Three hours is a long fucking time to be laying in the back of a van clinging desperately to life, battling the darkness threatening to consume you, frantically conjuring the image of your beloved, your fucking soul mate to keep yourself from succumbing to the peaceful oblivion, but Eric had; he’d fought tooth and nail to return to Fox, only to hear that she wasn’t staying. Anger had flooded him then, helpless rage and bone-deep fury, but even still, he hadn’t meant the words ‘get the fuck out’, and he never would.
Fox’s eyelids fluttered and she sighed breathily as her eyes slowly opened. Surprise flashed across her face for a millisecond, then was replaced by relief; tears started to form in her eyes and Eric winced as he reached to brush them away. Pulling back he just gazed at her for a long moment.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered.
The fragile hold Fox had on herself and her emotions broke and she started to cry; bowing forwards, tucking her face into Eric’s throat as she shook and Eric ached to comfort her. He shifted, hissing as his stitches pulled and a sharp stab of pain ripped through his chest, freezing in place until the pain weakened and tapered off, then shifted again, squirming closer to Fox. She clung to him like a life raft, anguish tearing through her, her body shaking with the force of her sobs and Eric could only hold her and stroke one hand slowly down her cheek, wait for her sorrow to abate. Finally, her tears slowed and Fox sniffled hard against his throat.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
“Don’t,” Eric murmured back. “We’re not looking back anymore.” He ducked his head, enough to catch her eye and used his finger and thumb to tilt her chin. “You and me, the past is over. It’s gone.”
Fox nodded, swallowing hard then her forehead furrowed for a heartbeat.
“Is he dead? Anthony? That’s where you went, right? Four told me.”
Eric nodded, eyes hardening. Before Four had brought Fox to him, he’d talked with his VP, learning what happened after he’d been shot. They owed the Savages big now, they’d cleaned up the mess left behind, disposed of the bodies while his brothers scrambled to save him.
“He’s dead, I made sure he suffered first, but yeah, he’s gone.” Eric held his breath, waiting for Fox’s reaction. How did you react really, when you learned someone had killed another for you?
A thousand emotions flashed through Fox’s tear-filled eyes; Eric saw brief horror, fascination and, overwhelming everything else, relief. Snuggling closer she burrowed her face in his chest. “Thank you,” she choked, clearly torn between bone-deep liberation and a nagging conscience. “I.... I hate to admit it and I’m not sure I’ll ever want the details..... It’s wrong, but I wanted him dead.... and I didn’t think I’d be strong enough to do it myself.” Eric heard lingering shame in her voice; although she was admitting to it, she was still struggling with her intent, with her desire for revenge that went so far against the grain of ‘civilized society’.
“Don’t,” Eric repeated. “Don’t waste anything more on that piece of shit. He’s not worth it, he hurt you unforgivably and now he’s paid for it. His life was forfeit the moment he decided to violate your trust like that.” Eric paused, a new thought hitting him, and he asked tentatively. “Do you wish you’d been there? I was trying to protect you from-”
Fox raised her head, eyes wide. “No, no. I don’t think I could stand to see him again.” Her eyes softened and Eric leaned gratefully into her hand as she cupped his cheek. “Thank you.”
“I love you Fox. I will always protect you, no matter what.”
Fresh tears spilled over Fox’s cheeks and she shook her head, wiping at her face. “I don’t deserve you-”
Eric crashed his lips to Fox’s to silence her; she had no idea of her worth, of her importance to him, of her standing in his life but he would goddamn well show her, every single day.
Fox melted against him with a moan, yielding to his kiss and drawing a groan from deep in his chest. Her hand curled around the back of his head, pulling him closer as their tongues tangled together and Eric felt her surrender to him, give over that last little piece of resistance, broken loose by the intensity and power of Eric’s love for her, by his reckless action to bring her peace.
The lingering pain in Eric’s body faded to the background as warmth rushed through him. His body, wounded and aching, wanted more, wanted to feel Fox joined with him, to chase away the last lingering doubts of their connection and he traced her cheekbone tenderly with his fingertip, his eyes and touch conveying his desire.
Fox pulled away, eyes widening. “No Eric, your chest-”
“Doesn’t hurt,” Eric grunted, eyes darkening. That was a lie, he was in considerable pain, but he’d gladly suffer through it for the chance to feel Fox now.
Doubt flashed in her kaleidoscope eyes but Eric pulled her back to him, pouring everything into his kiss and Fox gave in with a shudder. Her hand trailed down his abdomen and crept below the sweats Doc and Four had dressed him in earlier after he’d stabilized and he hissed, teeth gritted as her fingers grazed his straining cock.
“Fuck baby-” he groaned, palm finding the swell of her breast. His thumb flicked across her nipple just as she stroked up and down his shaft and they moaned in unison. Eric rolled onto his back, pointedly ignoring the jolt of pain in his chest and gripped Fox’s hips, pulling at her to straddle him. Fox followed easily, lips parted on harsh pants. Sitting up on her knees slightly Fox yanked at his sweats, pulling them down his thighs and letting his dick spring free, straining and red, tip weeping in anticipation.
Their eyes caught and held, a multitude of thoughts and emotions ferrying back and forth between them. Eric’s fingers curled bruisingly hard on Fox’s hips and she squirmed, struggling to shed her clothes. Her fingernails gouged red trails in her own skin as she yanked furiously at her underwear and finally she was free, tossing the articles away carelessly, focussed solely on relieving their desperate craving.
Eric arched back into the pillow with a strangled groan as Fox sank down onto him, as he filled her in one smooth push. Fox bit back a cry, bucking above him, her movements hindered by Eric’s grip on her hips. Their eyes locked again as their bodies began to move together, Fox rocking her hips, pulling Eric deeper each time. His eyes rolled back in his head as an amazing wave of sensations crashed over him, his pain forgotten. Wanting to see her again, he opened his eyes, a fresh claw of lust hooking him at the fierce desire in Fox’s eyes. Their gaze held as their movements grew less coordinated, as they climbed higher and higher together. Eyes narrowing as the sweet pain grew overwhelming, Eric reached up, cupping Fox’s cheek and pulled her down for a fevered, soul-claiming kiss before Fox reared back as her climax hit, biting back a shriek of ecstasy. Eric bucked beneath her, surrendering to his own violent release, choking back a roar as indescribable pleasure crashed over him, wave after delicious wave of soul-deep gratification. Everything else faded away as he pulsed inside his woman, filled her with his seed, felt her throb around him; then Fox sagged above him, panting, muscles trembling with aftershocks and exertion. Eric pulled her to him, gasping for breath, the adrenaline racing through him enough to dull the pain waiting to ambush him, but Eric didn’t care, he’d willingly put up with unfiltered agony just to experience this bliss again.
“I don’t remember giving the all-clear for that.” A dry voice remarked from the doorway and Fox bit back a squeak of surprise, yanking the covers over her naked body, burrowing into Eric’s side. Still riding a high better than any drug Eric grinned lazily at Doc, leaning against the doorframe and trying hard to look serious. Giving up he shook his head with a smirk. “Take it easy boss, I don’t feel like repairing any torn stitches.”
“Mind your own business.” Eric grinned and Doc snorted with amusement.
“You got five minutes then I’m coming back to check your bandage!” Doc yelled over his shoulder as he turned to leave, pulling the door closed again behind him.

SM082 - Thoughts, shorter ver!
Because it’s way too hot to write full-on thoughts but I really want to talk about two events of the episode specifically: Amamaiko’s journey to Amajo and our beloved Rocket Gang! Let’s get started with newest episode:
Won’t You Give Us a Dance Dance Evolution?
When we first saw previews, the episode seemed to not really focus on one character, but throughout the episode, it was clear Mao and Amamaiko were the focus of the day. The theme being PokeDance, the episode consisted of fun scenes with different kinds of PokeDances (and with Satoshi not understanding the concept of Dance... hey, he never did, even if he tried doing it in XY, it makes sense he did what he did!), one being Alola Hula, which is pretty much Pokemon version of Hula Hula Dance! The Old Lady from the Market is finally named as Moani, as Mao and Amamaiko are apparently regular customers at her stop.
But the two sure get inspired by the dance, as they are now practising it for the little Competition at Pokemon School! Even Mao’s Papa lets her off from work early to practice for the dance. Alola Hula seems so fitting for Amamaiko. Shame they can’t showcase their dance in the end, thou Amamaiko being so tranced with the dance sure helped them out of Rocket Gang’s latest scheme! Speaking of Rocket Gang!
They heard Mao and Moani talking about the PokeDance competition while selling Malasada Donuts, and thus started planning on kidnapping all of the Pokemon at Pokemon School. All because Musashi wanted Back Dancers for her show, Kojiro and Nyarth agreeing! First time they do a scheme on School land. I sure hope Kukui does some preparations to improve security. But their scheme, ah!
Their scenes were so lovely to watch, it’s also fitting for Musashi to be so entranced with dancing, considering her career as Performer Musavie! She danced a lot during her Kalos journey!
I want to quickly mentioned how I loved Suiren’s PokeDance performance, and I think she’d do great in Contests/Showcases! Maybe a lil foreshadowing. Or maybe I’m overreading. Tehee.
Back to Rocket Gang thou! Ohmygod I never thought I’d be so happy to see their old days of crossdressing return! I now realise I truly missed it!
Kojiro looks absolutely stunning and Musashi looks absolutely amazing in her suit! I keep thinking about Smooth Criminal when seeing her in that outfit and just... ah. Nyarth’s outfit is a reference to some japanese puppet play of sorts, apparently. Saw it linked on twitter.
Their scheme was kind of a typical one, but considering Satoshi hadn’t been trapped liked that since well, long time ago (I think XY had similar ‘Pokemon here and Trainers there’ scheme but I don’t remember clearly), I don’t blame him for not remembering about such occurance. Amamaiko being in a Alola Hula trance of kind thou, she didn’t listen to their instructions and is actually free! So she’s their only hope! Sort of similar to SM018 where Amamaiko evolved from Amakaji! This time Amamaiko is a threat to the plan thou, when last time they didn’t think Amakaji could do anything, until it evolved and double slapped the hell out of them lol.
Some may find it lazy, but it’s sort of a nice touch to make Amamaiko’s evolution episodes have similarities with each other, with added scenarios like Amamaiko’s actually being capable of doing something. Althou, it seems like they prepared for a flaw in their flawless plan (8D), and welp.
Amamaiko gets trapped in Basketball net. Which by the way... was very poorly animated? It literarily had three frames when coming down from ceiling like they usually do. Wonder if this episode’s animation production somehow had trouble? Because some scenes were gourgeus, but this bothered the hell out of me.
But y’know, Rocket Gang obviously thinks Amamaiko’s no longer a threat with her slapper hair trapped. But her legs are still free. :)))) Nyarth, you done goofed. Even more when he tells them exactly how to break the cages. I think he’s been too used to saying his thoughts out loud lol.
Mao and Lilie take action right away, Nyarth trying to fix his mess-up by catching Amamaiko before reaching the top of the cage. Considering Amamaiko cannot use any of her moves atm (her moves involve hands and her hair pretty much!), Lilie helping her out by causing Nyarth slip with Shiron’s Powder Snow was good thinking.
But oh boy, the scene we’ve been waiting for! Since Amamaiko only has her legs free, she’s using them to break the cage! And each time she’s kicking, she’s actually learning Stomp, confirmed by Kukui! You guys know what that means!
HERE WE GO!!!!
OH!
MY!
GOSH!
This whole sequence! ;____;
I told you guys Amajo is happening the moment we had the title Dance Dance Evolution! This was the very first evolution episode I watched without being spoiled, only having speculated of her happening, being super anxious, and then crying out of happiness when it happened ;v; And this is most definitely my favourite evolution sequence in Pokeani up to date! Why? Because it actually shows what’s being changed when evolving, and in what way. It’s not just blue aura changing form. This is something that is extreme norm for Digimon and love it a lot there, and I think I like this evolution scene even more! Sure, quite Magical Girl inspired, but I don’t mind one bit!
I do hate how my mind keeps thinking Waifumon because of watching Vinesauce Vinny’s Pokemon Moon playthrough. God damn it.
Anyway, I love Amajo’s design, and her voice changed exactly how I pictured it to be! And I freaking love how Nyarth is self-aware of the fact that once again, Mao’s partner evolved under their watch, and is gonna screw them up! And oh boy. Amajo’s legs are strong!
Also freaking love how Kojiro says that Amamaiko evolved into a Queen Pokemon! That is beautiful! Oh! I just realised Amajo means Queen of Fruit! Niiiice that explains the Berry Tiara!
Let’s try to end this post thou: Amajo Trop Kicks Nyarth into the other Basketball net in the room, and breaks the cages, letting everyone free! While it looks like there’s gonna be a Alola Squad VS Rocket Gang battle, Kiteruguma comes and grabs the naughty kids back home :)))
Episode finishes with an upgraded MokuShot combo ending up being Amajo’s PokeDance performance, and considering how strong her legs are now, it’s a nice showcase of how much more powerful MokuShot is now as well! Just look what it did to Satoshi:
Cracks on the floor..... someone needs to renovate the place. That was one powerful MokuShot.
End of the episode! Erm. Amajo caused me to talk for a bit long apparently. I just really started adoring Amajo when I finally evolved my Amamaiko in Ultra Moon. She’s so badass!
The episode as a whole was a bit on the weaker side. While I truly enjoyed it, animation was lacking in some places compared to the quality we’ve had throughout the series. I can’t help but be bothered by it. I can definitely see the people who watch Pokemon for battles not enjoying this episode but eh. I’m not one of those. I watch for characters, and their interactions. And this episode did that to me!
But it was nice for Mao to debut the full Amakaji evolution line, and I’m extremely happy for her! Next step for her journey would be either getting Z-ring, or something happening with the Aina Cafeteria that could be devastating, or a step-back. I’m not sure. Catching another Pokemon is a possibility as well, thou I wouldn’t bet on it, considering the big cast of characters!
The episode as a whole kinda seems like it could work as a basis for future Contest/Showcase debut in Sun & Moon series. This is definitely me being wishful, but considering how they introduced Gyms, it’d be approriate for Kukui to arrange an introduction to Contests at least!
When it comes to next one to evolve.... Ashimari? Mokuroh? Those are my two guesses!
Pokeproblem post-segment shows Amajo looking sad with her apron being too small now, to which Mao respondes by promising to fix it to fit her again. It’s a nice nice scene <3
Next week, Sauboh is back, and accidentally minimizes Satoshi, Lilie and Mamane, who end up going on an adventure outside the School Yard with giant-sized Pokemon around them! And apparently Sauboh trying to capture them in a clear pokeball as well!
Also with a return of Ganbalilie hairstyle, with Lilie’s usual outfit! That is wonderful combo! Also...
I can imagine this Persian being the same one from Nyabby’s episode, SM007! I could be wrong, but it would be a nice callback!
SM083 - Satoshi Minimizes
Looking so forward to this episode! Cya all next week!

Hi May i ask for you to rank the strawhats in terms of intelligence and alcohol tolerance? Thank you
Anon, you sent this like last weekend—I’m sorry I’m just getting to it now! 💀
Intelligence is kind of difficult to rank tbh, because we know the Straw Hats are all smart in their own special ways and pretty much geniuses/prodigies in their various areas of expertise. So I feel bad ranking intelligence when it comes in so many different forms. But I guess, if we’re talking like…book smarts/test score-wise, then it would go like this…(I’m gonna tack alcohol tolerance on too)….
1 - Robin. I mean the girl is scary knowledgable (emphasis on scary 😂) about most things in the world, so she’s gotta be number one.
Alcohol tolerance ranking: 3 (out of 10 Straw Hats). I’m puttin’ her pretty high. I think alcohol would affect her. I can see her getting kind of giggly and cute after a few drinks. But I think she’s super self-aware, so she wouldn’t show the effects as outwardly as some of the other crazies on the crew. She is a dignified goddess of darkness at all times.
2 - Chopper. Also scary smart when it comes to medical things. I was tempted to rank him lower though, because otherwise, he can be pretty naive. But ultimately, I’m not sure I would equate his sometimes childish behavior with being unintelligent. He’s still our lovable little nerd.
Alcohol tolerance: 9. HORRIBLE. And he’s underage! Keep this boy away from the booze. Holy hell.
3 - Nami. Arguably the most all-around sensible member of the crew, until money comes into play, but even then, she’s budgeting and managing shit constantly. Honestly I think she could easily be equal to or even switched with Chopper. I’m only gonna put her lower simply out of respect for Chopper’s studying efforts and dedication. Nami’s put a lot of time into her craft, of course, but she seems to be more of a natural talent to me.
Alcohol tolerance: 4. I think she can handle her liquor, but when it gets to her, BOY it gets to her. But only after a lot.
4 - Jinbe. I mean, Uncle Jinbe’s older so he knows his shit about the world, and he’s proven to be very tactically proficient. I wanna see him interact with the crew more….like how will he fit in during day-to-day life or when they’re all just goofing off during their adventures? I still think he’s intelligent, but I really wonder what kind of personality he’ll display once he’s a fully integrated member. It’s still kind of hard for me to imagine at this point, tbh.
Alcohol tolerance: 2. He’s a fish, but he’s hUge so I think his tolerance would be pretty high. Second to ONLY ONE…. (o_+);;; (gee, I wonder who…)
5 - Sanji. He’s a smart dude when he’s not being an IDIOT. But no, he can be a crafty bastard when he wants to be or when he’s not distracted in various ways. He is very emotionally driven though, so sometimes I feel like he doesn’t always make the smartest decisions, but he’s definitely aware of what those decisions are.
Alcohol tolerance: 8. SHIT TOLERANCE, at least in my mind. But he just strikes me as the type to fall apart after one wine. Especially when ladies are involved. Get him some water and send him to bed. Or just knock him out. For his own safety. 👋
6 - Usopp. Ugh, I feel bad ranking his intelligence this low because he’s NOT DUMB. He’s really brilliant and he certainly has some of the best common sense and self-preservation skills on the crew. But I think his intelligence is a little quirky and unconventional, so by traditional standards, others on the crew would be higher.
Alcohol tolerance: 7. I don’t think he could handle too many drinks before it sets him into his ultra cool manly mode and puffs up his bravado in silly ways. Keep him away from tall cliffs and make sure he remembers he can’t fly.
7 - Franky. Again, technically brilliant at his craft. Of course you need intelligence to build fucking ships and all the weaponry and machinery he designs. I think he definitely sees the world through that one lens though. If there’s a problem, his mind isn’t necessarily going to jump to the most straightforward or streamlined method of dealing with it. Oh, the fridge is broken? I’ll fix it, but how ‘bout I also mod it into a fighter jet that can walk on water and serve you breakfast in bed?…. There’s a time and a place, Franky. 😉
Alcohol tolerance: 5. Pretty good. But is that really alcohol in his mug? Methinks it is cola. 🤔
8 - Brook. “He’s not unintelligent!” I continue to scream as I justify ranking these last few so low…. But for real. He’s obviously got the life experience to trump all of his crewmates. No one could survive as he has if they didn’t have something going on in their brain—-except he doesn’t have one. Yohoho. I think his loyalty and emotional attachment to the crew and the comedic extremes of those emotions sometimes hinder any outward displays of intelligence we could get from him. So, compared to others, here he is, at number 8.
Alcohol tolerance: 6. Just prop him up at the piano when he gets too loud and obnoxious. Let him channel that energy into song. 🎶
9 - Zoro. Now this child really is dumb. That’s all I have to say about that. 😘 (Kidding, of course. I love him……………..but come on…)
Alcohol tolerance: 1. Heyo though, he’s the world’s greatest boozeman, so congrats on that!!!!! 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
10 - Luffy. And our captain comes in DEAD LAST. Loof, you’re the best, but if thinking hurts you this much, then you just keep doing you and burst into shit without a plan. 🤷 It literally works more often than not.
Alcohol tolerance: 10. Also sticking him at DEAD LAST for this. I actually think it’s a rarity that he drinks. Give him meat and he’s good. This boy though….he’s a wild child every second of every day. If he did drink, would there be much of a difference? I can see him becoming a lot more wiggly, just limbs everywhere. Like those tube man things they have outside of car dealerships. Now there’s something Japan should get on tbh. Give me all the Straw Hats wobbling around outside of Tokyo Tower. I digress.
Anyway, there you have it. 😎

For the alphabet meme: F, K, P, S with Dragon!Raiden, T, and Z
hhh anon you spoil me~ :) I’m gonna go for a mixed variety if you don’t mind (cut for length)
F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?
gollygosh golighty, it is probably the Kirby fandom. if my math is correct, I’ve been a fan since 11 years and counting!
K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc?
Johnny Cage from Mortal Kombat. man went from obnoxious fuckboi jackass comic relief and butt monkey of the entire franchise to an honestly funny, caring and loyal guy who’s also a shockingly good parent and can even be pretty mature and reasonable if he needs to. Midway/NRS clearly didn’t like him all that much in the OT and made him pretty cringey, but now he’s actually bearable without losing the original ego and bad sense of humour that makes him who he is. got to say, I really love him now.
P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
Pokemon SU/MO AU where instead of protag being recruited to hunt UBs Guzma ended up being drafted into it as a half ‘community service’ to make up for what he did with Team Skull and Lusamine, and the fact he also qualifies as a Faller. It’s not totally willing or a happily made decision (sort of imagining Looker or someone strong-armed him into it), but maybe he was desperate due to having nowhere to stay let alone a livelihood after disbanding Team Skull and wanting an escape and something to do. And there’s gonna be complications, such as others like Plumeria or perhaps even Nanu disapproving of his new ‘job’ (though it’s more like they’re angrier at the guys like Looker who dragged a guy who is clearly in a bad place into their dangerous ops) and the fact Guzma has a justified phobia and probably PTSD because of Ultra Beasts and Lusamine. It’s a redemption story yes, just an alternate path instead of going back to training with Hala like he did in the games.
I’m a little surprised how few people actually try to explore how Guzma’s experience in the portal affected him, and how it may have contributed to his heel-face turn in both timelines of the games.
S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)
(hhhhh I can’t believe you remembered this one esp when i haven’t officially done anything on it but in the tags of that one post!)
The dragon form is actually closer to Raiden’s ‘true’ form than the humanlike mortal body we know best. In his truest form Raiden is a shapeless mass of sentient lightning which would blind/vaporise any mortals who saw it, so a dragon made of lightning is his next best ‘safe’ form before actually taking a mortal vessel. In this form he’s possibly the most powerful and free in his element without being in his ‘raw’ form.
This is true for all gods, who if they can’t be bothered to take a more humanoid form or an actual mortal body they will turn into an elemental dragon - the next step between dragon and mortal form is an elemental humanoid form like the unnamed gods in SZM.
Basically think of it like a weirdass Pokemon evolution line roughly like: Shapeless elemental mass > elemental dragon > elemental humanoid > human vessel
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
Mortal Kombat: RAIDEN IS A GOOD PERSON WHO CARES AND ISN’T A FAILURE, YOU ARE ALL JUST MEAN.
Marvel: Tony Stark finds it easier to talk to and connect with robots and AI/VI than humans. His robots are like his kids and he’d totally have pictures of them in his wallet.
Kirby: (Game) Kirby’s impulsive, naive and childish but not a complete idiot. He often understands what’s going on and what’s at stake in serious and even pretty complex and highly dangerous situations, but he’s just the type who can put all that aside and single-mindedly focus on what needs to be done to save the day. True, he does have too-big a heart and often approaches things too simply in black and white terms, but it’s more of a merit of his that he has seen so much shit and yet can still trust and be kind even to total strangers in the direst of circumstances.
Madness Combat: Deimos is younger than Sanford (and a lot of the other characters) and isn’t as happy or ditzy as he acts a lot of the time - he’s got a fair bit of baggage for being a defector and the bloody and thankless ‘job’ he and Sanford have now. Sanford knows this, which is why he lets him off the hook [lmfao half-intended pun] for goofing around so much.
Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! (Prompts optional but encouraged.)
free pass to ramble? OK!!
sooo I just really like the Kirby series? It’s such a dependable series that is so enjoyable for all ages and fans, it has excellent art and music and always hits the right amount of throwback and new innovations and rarely disappoints or fails to deliver. Everything’s cute and colourful and accessible for the kidduns, there’s some juicy lore and deeper storylines for older fans to sink their teeth into and all round there is hardly anything to complain about in the canon media and the fandom. plus the Anime is like its own bomb ass ‘canon AU’ verse and can be taken separate, and that too is a barrel of fun with a cute and cheerful world that can be studied and mined endlessly for all sorts of story potential and themes without being exhausted. honestly, just everything about the Kirby series is superb and i would say it’s one of the best franchises ever, period.

notlikeothergirls
It seems like every movie and tv show these days stars a girl who’s supposed to be “not like other girls”. These characters always showcase one trait. Whether it’s the fact that they aren’t traditionally feminine, they have a little more meat on their bones, they stand a head taller than a lot of those around them, they’re introverted and read books. Whatever it is, it’s always one thing that defines them. It’s like people can only have one personality trait or one characteristic like the people in that stupid book trilogy Divergent. Too many of these shows and movies act like no one can be more than the thing that defines them. If you’re usually in jeans and boots and take woodshop, you can’t also wear makeup or like the color pink. If you happen to be chubbier as a person, you can’t feel good in your skin and dress in something that doesn’t hide your body. You like reading? Well then you absolutely have to hate computers and everything they stand for because only losers rely on WIFI.
The oddest thing about this whole “not like other girls” buffoonery is that only one person, the main person, can have the traits that define them. No one else can be tall, or chubby, or introverted, or ultra-feminine. Only the one person the story is about.
It’s such a conflicting message to send out to people. It puts us all in a box and if we leave that box, we’ve defiled ourselves as humans. People shouldn’t be afraid to look dainty, have a social personality, read, and enjoy rugby lest they end up being a “girly-girl”, “popular girl”, “quiet girl”, and “sporty girl” rolled into one person. Because from what we’re shown, that’s a bad thing. What a bucket of absolute rubbish. It’s no way to get the viewer to relate to the protagonist whatsoever. The folks behind these productions give these characters one trait which simultaneously relates to the viewing audience whilst also alienating them if they enjoy anything outside said trait.
When I was a wee child, I tried incredibly hard to be a “tomboy” because people made fun of girls for being “too much like girls”. I felt awkward if I ever wore pink, or skirts, or gods forbid, told anyone that I played with dolls. I liked to wear frilly dresses just as much as I liked to wear jean cutoffs but it felt as though I always needed to choose between one or the other. ‘Tis something I struggle with even until this day. I often look like a homeless lumberjack, yet I enjoy ballet. I’m an awkward introvert yet I love performing in dance shows. I’m a thick, busty lady who enjoys a form fitting prom dress that shows my figure just as much as a men’s t-shirt that hides the fact I have oversized boobs. I don’t have to be one or the other. No one does. Yet the cursed media we’re surrounded with keeps forcing these unnecessary choices down our throats. It goofs a person up; now I’m frequently uncomfortable in everything I do because it doesn’t match the personality vibe the film industry has assigned to me. Nobody fits into just one category of anything. We are complex beings with layers and intricacies in what makes each of us our own person. And honestly, who are these so-called “other girls” and why are we individuals trying to be the opposite but accuse everyone around us of being just like them? It leads to such a vile, toxic culture that separates people from one another.
I would just ask if we humans, despite being shown these flat, supposed inspirations for the young generations, bear in mind that not one thing defines who we are. People should embrace both their differences and similarities with those around them, for they are what connects us and expands our horizons.

day four: fav pro hero
i honestly had a hard time choosing because im currently reading the manga and my emotions for all might just went plus ultra.
however, this hero is an all time favorite. it started bcos of his seiyuu but i definitely love him for his character.
In celebration of teacher’s month in the Philippines, and an advanced celebration for the whole world, I chose this hero because I love him and his soft spot is absolutely loveable.
“Class dismissed.”
The class greets Aizawa farewell and he leaves the classroom as soon as they finish. Jirou shares a look with Yaoyorozu, and before Bakugou could waltz out of the classroom, their vice president pulls out a metal bar from her body and puts it right in front of the door, preventing simple escapes.
“Oi, move.”
“Bakugou, there’s something we have to say. It’s about Aizawa-sensei, and maybe All Might.”
“Tch.”
Bakugou sits on the nearest table, much to Aoyama’s dismay, and nods at Jirou to let her continue. There was a silent agreement in the class that that was the most compliant Bakugou they have ever seen. Midoriya was damn sure it’s because of the mention of ‘All Might’ but who is he to judge?
“So, uh, I only found out yesterday that it’s teacher’s day tomorrow and we’ve been kinda talking about it.”
“Ehhh? Why did you keep it from us?”
“I-It’s not like we were keeping it from you guys, I swear! Honestly speaking, we haven’t had a proper conversation about it!”
It was adorable how Yaoyorozu was waving her arms around as if to defend themselves.
“Well, that aside, the main important thing, or question, is are we going to celebrate it?”
“It doesn’t seem like U.A. celebrates it, huh.”
“We can celebrate it!”
Ashido immediately stands up and pumps her fists up and down. Hagakure joins in, her sleeves going up and down. The two were cheerful as ever.
“Ribbit, I think it’s a great idea. Aizawa-sensei needs more appreciation after all the trouble he puts through dealing with us.”
“Then it’s settled! We’ll do a mini celebration for him.”
Yaoyorozu and Jirou shares a high five, happy that there was no need for persuasion to make things happen.
“Well, Bakugou seems like he’s going to kill me if we keep him so y’all can continue with your lives. Let’s just talk about it in the group chat.”
That said, only Bakugou and Todoroki went home. The rest of the class stayed either for the preparations, or simply they just didn’t want to go home yet. As they converse about what they’ll do - “Do we need a cake? I can make some.” “Does Aizawa-sensei even like sweet things?” “Well if he doesn’t, we can eat it ourselves!” - someone unexpected enters the classroom.
“Hello, Class 1-A!”
Their principal, Nezu, greets the class, jumping on the table to get a higher view. Everybody stood up and bowed in greeting, and he immediately tells everyone to be at ease. What was the principal doing inside their classroom?
“Well, I recently found out awhile ago that teacher’s day is tomorrow and I’ve decided on my own, of course, to do a little celebration. Actually, it’s more of a recognition day than a celebration but we’ll work on that next year. I see that you are planning something?”
“Yes sir!”
“That’s splendid! Mind if we make the celebration throughout the school instead of having it confined to your classroom?”
Everyone seemed excited and shook their head, visibly looking forward to it.
“I’ve already actually talked to each class one by one, and I’m fortunate that your class is still around or else that would be a problem! To be honest, the other classes are also making plans so I thought it would be a great idea to have everyone involved. Well then! Class President, please follow me.”
Iida immediately stood up and followed Nezu outside. After a few more minutes of planning, the rest of the class went home.
“Aizawa-sensei! At least give us a smile!”
Aizawa continued frowning. It was the last part of the campus celebration, picture-taking. After this, he could escape from this attention and go back home. The photographer threatened him that this won’t end as long as he keeps frowning. Great. What a way to end his day.
“Come on, Shota! Smile.”
“Shut it, Hizashi.”
“Yes! Do smile, Aizawa!”
“Ugh, even you, All Might?”
Aizawa gives up and gives a smile, although it wasn’t the one everyone was hoping for, but they did expect it. It was the smile he wore when he’s highly amused, and everyone else is often in an unfortunate state. Well, it was something.
After the celebration, Aizawa went backstage and hoped that he could somehow go home in peace, but then Kaminari, Kirishima and Sero showed up in front of him, Todoroki jogging behind them.
“Aizawa-sensei! A moment of your time, please!”
“You’ve had plenty already.”
“Please! We beg you.”
Kirishima bowed down, head on the ground. Kaminaru and Sero just bowed deeply.
“...Please.”
Todoroki joins in and Aizawa just sighed.
“Fine, but only for a while.”
“Guys! Aizawa-sensei is on his way! Quick, to your positions!”
Everybody shuffled to their positions. Sato and Shoji held the sides of the banner which they previously used in the U.A’s teacher’s day celebration. Some of them got party poppers, and the others posed for the greeting. When Aizawa came in with the Todoroki who walked behind him, they popped the party poppers and cheered-
“Happy Teacher’s Day, Aizawa-sensei!”
Some confettis fell on him, but thankfully none of Sero’s tape landed on him. They sing a little song, which he didn’t really recognize and it sounded something they’re just randomly coming up with, and they burst into laughter at the failure. Aizawa smiled, but it was more like a twitch in the mouth and the eye.
“Tch, you guys didn’t need to.”
“We know, but we did it anyways because we think it’s fitting.”
Tsuyu spoke up, and everyone nodded in agreement. Well, he can’t be a wet blanket anymore.
“Er, well, I’m not good with this thing so… Iida, go call Hi- Present Mic and All Might. I’m sure you guys like them. Oh, and you can use your quirk to be quick.”
“Yes sir!”
Iida salutes and immediately dashes off to get them. Within a minute, Iida comes back with the two of them. They both let out an amused sound.
“Well, well! It seems your class adores you, Aizawa!”
“It appears so, doesn’t it, Present Mic?”
All Might and Present Mic laughed and Aizawa immediately regretted inviting them. With the two great presence in the room, the attention went to them, and unexpectedly, Aizawa just took a seat somewhere in the room, watching the crowd around the two heros. Well, that’s better.
The students enjoyed the food they prepared, and so did the three teachers. Aizawa’s tiny smile never left his face as he watched his class bond, even the improving Bakugou and the awkward Todoroki.
“Mhm, you sure do look loved.”
“Shut it.”
“Even if I spend more time with Young Midoriya than any other student and I’m very much aware of his admiration towards me, I can always sense the great admiration the students hold for you, either individually or as a class.”
Aizawa just snorted, but didn’t talk back.
“Hey, let’s take a picture!”
Aizawa didn’t refuse, but he was the last to stand up for it. He was in the middle, with All Might and Present Mic by his side. Aizawa wasn’t smiling, but he wasn’t frowning either. He just looked tiredly at the camera, and the class liked it that way.
The picture greatly defines their class, with Ashido, Hagakure, Jirou and Sero goofing around for the picture and Iida scolding them at the sides, hoping for a proper picture. Asui and Uraraka posed for a matchy feel, and Midoriya smiled brightly as All Might’s hand rested on his shoulder. Kirishima’s arms were around Bakugou and Kaminari, grinning at the camera with his fingers forming a peace sign. Aoyama was posing in a flashy way, as usual. Ojiro was at the side, smiling and doing a peace sign as well. Sato and Koda’s arms around each other, with Koda’s looking all awkward. Todoroki was sitting in front with the goofy ones, not looking at the camera but instead at the people beside him. Shoji was at the back, his arms spreading like wings. Fumikage let out his shadow to be in the picture. Yaoyorozu was beside Jirou, and also near Iida and she was covering her ears. Mineta was sitting in front, right in the middle, pumping his fists high in the air.
It was such a nice picture.
Omake:
Present Mic received the picture somehow and sent it to Aizawa. Aizawa secretly saved it in his phone, and had it printed and placed in a frame.

Nintendo Direct E3 Takes
Well we’re pretty much done with E3 at this point, and it looks like once again Nintendo is carrying the whole damn thing on their back.
This is obviously a bit biased, because I’m not really into the AAA gaming industry otherwise, and the only other potential announcement I cared about didn’t happen. You had one fucking job, Capcom. One job.
Anyway as I did last time this came around I’m giving some hot takes like every single other person on this godforsaken internet because innovation is dead and react culture is king. Shall we?
Smash DLC Fighter…10 or something idk
I mean, look. I was hoping for an indie representative. Kazuya isn’t really that. But on the other hand, Tekken rep is something I can still get behind. They’ve already got Street Fighter and Fatal Fury in there, might as well get Tekken. What’s next, Raiden from Mortal Kombat? Hell, might as well get some Rivals of Aether character in there, might as well, don’t even have to change much.
From what little we’ve seen of Kazuya’s kit, it looks like his gimmick is going to be…complicated input combos for special attacks. Hm. Well, it’ll probably be fine. People managed with Ryu, they’ll manage with Kazuya. I do appreciate that they gave this guy his demon form- I guess they had to make him jump somehow, huh?
Life is Strange
I haven’t played the original Life is Strange, but I did watch a playthrough so I know how it goes. Don’t really know much about Before the Storm or 2, but I don’t think 2 is part of this collection anyway? Look I’m probably not going to buy this, but it’s probably good that it exists. The original was like, actual good rep, I think, so they’re probably not going to fuck this one up. New character is neat looking, good for them.
A Bunch of games, I guess
Guardians of the Galaxy? Damn dude, did I ask?
Worms Rumble said it had 32-person multiplayer, which I was like well hang on how’s that going to work with turn-based Worms combat you’d be waiting for ever. Except it isn’t turn-based. And it looks like ass as a result. F.
Astria Ascending…I’m reading this name and I already forgot what this was. Sorry if you cared about it I suppose.
I know nothing of the Two Point…series, I guess? I keep on seeing Hospital pop up on either Steam or the eShop, and I’ve scrolled past it without thinking twice every single time. Not about to change that.
Super Monkey Ball
I understand this series was a lot of fun for a lot of people, but it just looks miserable to me. With that said, I have seen some speedruns of these games that look incredible, so on that axis I’m happy this is getting made. Makes doing a marathon-length run of this a fair bit easier.
Mario Party
Look I haven’t even gotten around to playing my (very fake) Mario Party 3 cart, you think I’m going to buy another 80 dollar game on top of that? Nah.
Metroid
Yoooooooooooooo lets fucking gooooooooooooo
Okay so I’ve actually never beaten a Metroid game. Got some ways into Fusion and Super but didn’t complete either of them. But this looks super cool and good and I’m here for it. They mentioned that this was the first new 2D Metroid game in 19 years, which I guess means Fusion was the latest one.
…wait how many Metroid games are there even? Like, the original, Super, Fusion, the three Primes, and that one we don’t talk about…is that it? That feels a lot smaller than I thought it was, but I guess it adds up.
Just don’t cock it up, I guess. Metroid and Castlevania’s absence have left indie devs to fight for the Metroidvania name, and it’s about time the big boys got to come back around again.
More bullshit
Just Dance 2022. Is this one also coming out on the Wii?
Some racing game that looks cheap as fuck, neato. Man I feel bad for the devs working on these absolute shovelware games, like I bet they’re either working hard or being worked to the bone. But this is what the result is. R.I.P.
It’s about 13 years too late for me to be caring about Dragon Ball. Especially since this is just a port. Next.
Mario Golf
I mean we saw this earlier this year. I don’t even know what was actually new in this presentation.
Bowsers outfit is fucking clean though. Once again proving himself the best Mario character.
Monster Hunter
Fuck off Capcom. Y’all are leaving Mega Man in the fucking dust and he doesn’t deserve it.
I mean I guess ill get into it here, I mostly just wanted something, anything for the Mega Man Battle Network series. It’s their 20th anniversary, and we haven’t gotten shit so far. Literally just a MMBN collection for the switch, that’s all I want. They were even on the Wii U VC, you can just port those again, I don’t care fucking give it to me.
Anyway. Monhun? Ehhh they already showed this at their lacklustre presentation who cares.
Warioware
Look I haven’t played this series before, it’s probably fun, but I’m not sure how they stretch microgame content out into a fully-priced game.
Also, the multiplayer looks kinda miserable? Like, in case Mario Party was a little too efficient for ruining friendships, now you can yell at one person specifically for fucking the both of you up, and vice versa. Wheeeeee.
SMT5
Shoutouts to Squiggy, they’re super hype for this and I’m happy to see it. I personally again haven’t played this series, let alone Persona (though 4 is sitting untouched in my steam library, oops), but it looks pretty aight. I’m sure there’ll be a huge pile of demons to fuck up, or friend up, and some level of story that people will like (I have literally no idea what the plot of the series is), so. Atlus (?) has been at this for a long fucking time, they aren’t goofing this up.
Danganronpa
Shirtless Rantaro Shirtless Rantaro (shamelessly stolen from u/ AnaLissaMelculo on r/danganronpa)
I’m interested to see Talent Development Plan develop into it’s own fully fleshed out game. It was surprisingly good for a tacked-on minigame, and I hope that they’ll fully take advantage of its potential.
It also looks like the 4 games are releasing separately on Switch, but there is a physical collectors edition with all of them, and I mean, I can probably afford that, riiiiight?
R.I.P. Ultra Despair Girls fans, snubbed yet again. Ehhhh fuck it aside from the dialogue that game sucks ass so its fine.
More stuff
Fatal Frame looks spooky, I guess. I dunno, I was talking to mates through half of this one so I basically missed it.
DOOM Eternal DLC, cool. I still haven’t finished the original.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater should be on the Switch, and now it is. Or, it will be, in a couple weeks. Good.
There’s something on this list of notes called Strange Brigade, and I have literally no idea what that is. Oops again.
Mario+Rabbids 2, now with a Rabbid Goth GF. I’m terrified to go on any fuckin NSFW platforms for the next couple weeks, because I’m sure everyone is drawing incredibly cursed hentai of that thing. Ubisoft sucks ass, fuck Ubisoft, don’t buy this.
Advance Wars
This sure isn’t Fire Emblem. Actually when I was explaining to my mates why this was cool, I called it Fire Emblem but with tanks instead of waifus, except I forgot this game still has waifus. I know strategy nerds love this series, so for their sake I’m happy to see it remade. This just looks unbelievably cute.
Zelda
Oh look, Hyrule Warriors 2 DLC, Zelda gets the motorbike now, cool who fucking cares we got more BOTW sequel footage
It does kinda bug me that people keep calling this BOTW 2, because there’s no way that’s what it’s going to be called. Zelda has never done numbered sequels. I mean, they’ve also very rarely done sequels at all, but there are a few- Phantom Hourglass is a sequel to Wind Waker iirc.
It is kinda funny that right after I was saying boo who cares to Skyward Sword remake (still mad this is one game and not a collection) that the new game clearly has SS-ass floating islands and such.
I was hoping we’d get to see Zelda do things this game. Apparently not, she’s stuck in a hole now. Or dead. A shame. But Link at least looks kickass, so.
Look, they could not say a single other thing until release and everyone would still buy this game. Breath of the Wild was an incredible enough game that so many things that vaguely resemble it get compared- Genshin Impact comes to mind. This is likely made by the same (or similar) team, in the same world, and it looks fucking incredible. We all know this is going to be a good game. My hot take isn’t going to change that.
And that’s the tea, sis. All the shit that Ninty had in their corner of E3. It’s a pretty solid lineup! It looks like they are bringing their A-game. I was kind of surprised not to see any Pokemon stuff- while it usually gets its own direct these days, BDSP is really coming up soon and they kinda need to win back the crowd on that one.
Oh what am I saying, it’s fucking Nintendo, it’s too big to fail.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is the eleventh major entry in the series that began in 1982, and has evolved greatly even from the last official release in 2006. It’s a game that’s different things to many people: an educational tool for learning how to fly before getting in a real plane, a sandbox to fly from virtually any airport to the next, a role-playing game where you’re a pilot transporting passengers to their destination, or maybe just a means to pass the time by goofing around in the air. Whatever it is to you, Microsoft Flight Simulator has returned in 2020 to offer old and new players the thrill of flight. It may be simply named Microsoft Flight Simulator but know it’s anything but simple, as there’s a complex and detailed recreation of all things aeronautics that’s unparalleled.
Asobo Studio has focused on three key areas for how to build Flight Simulator: world, weather, and aerodynamics. The first is exemplified by using Bing maps to recreate 3D items from mountains to individual buildings. The world is represented 1:1, meaning that flights from JFK to LAX take the full five hours and change to complete. And aerodynamics are fully represented by the fact that realistic methods flying are paramount, to include but not limited to not having an excessive airspeed, adjusting flaps, having proper balance in weight, and not turning too hard. All of these elements coalesce into a beautiful reflection of our world’s physics system to near-perfection that’s both intuitive and authentic.
This being a Microsoft game, it does support keyboard + mouse, controllers, and most importantly joystick setups natively. Keyboard and mouse works well, but feels like more of an accessory than a primary means for controlling the game. The Xbox One controller works fine, if not a bit wily in terms of it overcompensating. So it needs some tweaks. The most exciting thing though, was it detected my Thrustmaster T16000M FCS HOTAS right away. During training, it even showed me a picture of my devices and their corresponding buttons. Even when using a HOTAS, you still have to be near your keyboard for certain actions. No matter how you want to play, there’s a way.
There’s three modes of play that make up Flight Simulator. There’s the World Map, which is where you engage in free flight. Here you can just pick an airport to fly out of and go, or you can create a flight plan to have an actual destination. This is also how you get into the multiplayer to be around others playing the game. The multiplayer can be turned on or off each time you go into it, with the options of setting it to live players, all players, or off (group only). You can opt for air traffic to be live (using real flight data), or AI (computer traffic). Then you can set the weather and time for live (utilizing real-world meteorogicial data), preset, or custom. The blending of both online and offline is seamless, being only just a few clicks away from playing with friends.
Next, you have Flight Training. Which, this should ultimately be the first thing you do. It does an excellent job of teaching you basic flight, and all the essentials of playing the game. You’ll be given a Cessna 152 to fly in, a propeller plane that’s not very fast, doesn’t go very high, but is the best plane to start out with. There are eight sections for training, taking about 90 minutes to complete, and that’s not considering time taken for needing to restart any of the later lessons.
And lastly there are Activities. These are broken up between Landing Challenges and Bush Flights. The bush flights cover large areas, taking passengers on the flight of a lifetime, though there’s only a handful of them. The landing challenges are broken up into three tiers of difficulty that get progressively more challenging as they go on. They cover the world’s trickiest approaches and runways that you’ve probably not considered or have seen before. While there’s 24 landing challenges on their own, there needs to be more variety. I’m missing the missions from FSX, the ones where something catastrophic happens like an engine going up in flames or shutting down entirely and having to land safely in an emergency. Even something like the sponsored races would be a change of pace. I hope this comes in time, either from the developers or from the community.

First-person view is incredibly detailed. Every button of the cockpit is interactive. You can zoom in as close as you need, isolate your view to certain panels, which will give you better understanding of everything available to you. For the first time, the third-person view is worth a damn. It’s always been great for screenshots, but here instrument panels are all on-screen for you to gain valuable information to fly from this perspective, and even land if you find landing a Boeing 747 too difficult from first-person. This makes the game much more accessible as a result, with both view points being absolutely incredible.
There’s a toolbar to give you quick access to items like prior entries. You’ll be able to pull up the ATC (Air Traffic Control), camera, checklist, controls, AI control (pass flight, comms, etc), fuel, navigational log, objectives, travel to (flight plan), VFR (Visual Flight Rules) map, weather, and custom toolbar (toggle previous settings off or on). Being able to change the weather and time of day on-the-fly is flexible and absolutely stunning to see in action. Whether it’s popping a thunderstorm or clearing the skies, it happens in an instant, and it’s awesome. You also have the ability to active pause the game, meaning you can put the game on-hold and pan the camera for amazing screenshots.
If you want total realism, you can enforce that you follow a pre-flight checklist in order to get off the ground. Coupled with lifelike airports with people on the ground and vehicles moving about, you’ll feel like a real pilot. When you’re up in the air, you don’t have to fight the controls when you properly set the trim, or engage the autopilot (if the plane supports it). The simulation aspect can be as hands-on or as hands-off as you like, this is Flight Simulator your way. As a reward for your time, the game will let you earn your wings. The more hours you spend in the game, you’ll be bestowed a higher tier wing. The entry-level one is given at 50 hours, it’s a great incentive for budding pilots.
Now, those looking for disasters will have to go elsewhere. For things like wind-sheared wings, water landings (for non-water capable aircraft), and collisions with the ground for planes will not be shown. Now there is a developer mode you can enable to allow for such things, but it’s off for a reason. Flight Simulator lacks a filter for craft that can land in water. To my surprise, there are aircraft available and capable of doing so, like the Icon A5. Once I confirmed I was able to do it, it was a pleasant surprise. But it’s puzzling there’s no way to know what ones can or can’t land in water.

There are three editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Standard comes with 20 planes and 30 airports for $59.99, Deluxe adds five planes and airports for $89.99, and Premium Deluxe has a total of 30 planes and 40 airports. The extra cost is not just about more planes and airports, but more realistic and detailed locations. The “non-premium” airports are nondescript and certainly lacking. It’s unclear how far this’ll go, but it’s a preference and desire for all things if you want to spend the money for it.
Conversely, the Standard edition of Microsoft Flight Simulator is available on Xbox Game Pass for PC. Starting at $1 for new subscribers, you can start on Xbox Game Pass to start playing the game right away. For as much as this sounds like an advertisement, it isn’t. It’s just incredibly easy to try this game out for a nominal fee, especially if you’ve never played the series before now.
If you’re still playing Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition, then this is a qualified upgrade in just about every way.
If there’s one glaring problem, one bugbear to Microsoft Flight Simulator, it’s the performance. The game looks incredibly photo-realistic on Ultra settings. However, the thing that becomes the most taxing is: dense cities. There’s almost nothing you can do about the framerate when you get in those locations. I noticed that no matter whether I was on Low or Ultra settings, I couldn’t get it above 50fps. Now, this is a game where 60 to 120fps is not really needed. On average, the game ran at about 40fps, and this is absolutely fine for what’s happening on-screen. In addition, the loading times are shockingly slow. I only have SSDs installed, and the game is loaded onto my fastest one. Yet, the game takes a few minutes to load up initially, and then more minutes to get into the game.
Now if there’s one benefit of everything that’s going on, is that Asobo Studio have created the most awe-inspiring and realistic clouds to-date. They look like you can reach out and touch them, seeing them dynamically form and dissipate is a technical marvel.
Something to consider about the game is its size, which comes in above 100GB. This is also based on version of the game you purchased. In addition, there’s live data that will be streamed in to achieve real-time data and more accurate maps. Now, if you’re have a data cap enforced by your ISP, then you might want to restrict or limit the amount of data you download. Data is what allows for multiplayer, you’re given plenty of options to toggle these things on and off at-will. Just make sure you’ve got the room to fit the game as it’ll be inching closer to 125GB.
My PC Specs:
– Microsoft Windows 10 Pro – Intel Core i9 9900K @ 5Ghz (Turbo) – Corsair H115i RGB PLATINUM 97 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler – Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory – EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti 11 GB XC ULTRA GAMING – Seagate FireCuda SSD (500GB) – Seagate BarraCuda SSD (1TB / 2TB) – Thrustmaster T16000M FCS HOTAS
Flight Simulator at launch is only the beginning, as it’s set to be a game that evolves and grows over time rather than being a static product. If this was all the game would be, it’s great as-is. It’s a shame that the performance in areas, even on its lowest settings holds this back from reaching legendary status, but it’s a grand return to form for the series. No matter whether you buy it, or download it via Game Pass, you’re getting the best flight simulator to-date. Microsoft Flight Simulator soars to new heights, and has easily been worth the the fourteen year wait.
A Microsoft Store code for Microsoft Flight Simulator – Premium Deluxe Edition was provided in advance by the Microsoft / Xbox for review purposes
Microsoft Flight Simulator Review Microsoft Flight Simulator is the eleventh major entry in the series that began in 1982, and has evolved greatly even from the last official release in 2006.

Ep. 7 Long Distance Relationships
polyAM Radio Episode Seven-Long Distance Relationships
[Begin Transcript]
[Sophie]: Hello everybody and welcome to polyam radio the best show on the internet about polyamory that weird relationship thing you do with lots of other people
["Crazy little thing called love" by Queen plays]
[Sophie]: hello everybody and welcome to polyam radio my name is Sophie Last-name-redacted
[Credence]: and I'm Credence You-humans-could-not-pronounce-it
[Sophie]: I use she her pronouns and Credence uses they them and he him, this episode is going to be about long distance relationships and specifically about long distance plyamory but first you may or may not have noticed I have a new guest host so Credence tell everybody a little bit about yourself
[Credence]: well hi, thanks for having me Sophie um my name is Credence umm I'm twenty four years old I studied writing and gender in college umm I don't have that many interesting things to say about myself
[Sophie]: that's fair, how long have you been doing polyamory
[Credence]: I've been into polyamory since ooh, it's been about five years for me I've been in polyamory about five years
[Sophie]: umm are you comfortable talking about how you got into it or is that a bad memory
[Credence]: oh it's not a bad memory at all umm I actually am still with my partner who introduced me to polyamory she at the time was dating another person and when we got together she was like this is who I am this is what I do and I wanna give you as much information about it as possible but um it was a really egalitarian approach to relationships and I was really intereted in that because she was a wonderful person and I really liked her other partner and it was just kind of a soft introdution and umm it took me a while to start dating other people but that that's it's own story cuz I'm kind of a playbook of what not to do sometimes with polyamory [laughs] uh but right now I'm in , uh, I have three wonderful girlfriends who are amazing, oh god I want you to edit so much of this out it's so bad
[Sophie]: no it's wonderful
[Credence]: [laughs]
[Sophie]: I'm lucky enough to be one of those wonderful girlfriends
[Credence]: yes yes you are
[Sophie]: and then we share another one uhh of those wonderful girlfriends and the other one I haven't quite sunk my claws into yet
[Credence]: yeah you once you meet uhh once you meet her I'm sure that, it'll be uhh a ripple effect until you two start dating
[Sophie]: yeah probably that's generally how my life works
[Credence]: gotta collect em all
[Sophie]: yeah yeah
[Credence]: catch em all gotta catch em all
[Sophie]: it's actually funny you mention that because I'm playing pokemon ultra moon right now and I'm very pokemon saturated ya know we talked about polysaturation in a previous episode and feeling like you have too many partner uhh and I actually wish that I had bought the game earlier instead of playing it earlier cuz this would have been a really good intro for the polysaturation episode but I've just got so many pokemon in there right now that I can't train any of them up to the level that I kind of want to and I'm still very early in the game so I'm just catching new pokemon all the time so it's just, I have this wonderful paralell I was like this is just like polysaturation I'm just so pokemon saturated and then I turned off the game and stopped playing which isn't really a solution for your polysaturation
[Credence]: no no it's not
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: it's not
[Sophie]: yeah but I can put my little electronic creatures on a shelf until I'm ready to deal with them again
[Credence]: unless they're unless they're what are those things called the tomoi
[Sophie]: tomigotchis
[Credence]: they'll just run away
[Sophie]: will they really, I never had one
[Credence]: they're weird, I have a lot of abandonment issues thanks to tomigotchi
[Sophie]: yeah I uh maybe, that could be a good sponsor for the show maybe we could reach out to them
[Credence]: do they still exist
[Sophie]: uhh I'm sure in some form ya know
[Credence]: well uhh unfortunately you have already made an episode about polysaturation and we shouldn't over saturate your listeners with the conversation
[Sophie]: that's fair
[Credence]: so today we're going to be talking about as you said long distance relationships and specifically how polyamory works in conjuntion with long distance relationships so what constitutes a long distance like how far is far Sophie
[Sophie]: uhh well umm boy let me get out a ruler here hold on
[Credence]: oh yeah
[Sophie]: yeah well I with I had a good goof for this cuz I was planning on being the one that asked that question and then forcing you to make a good goof about it but I didn't have anything prepared but basically
[Credence]: oh well here I don't have anything but I can I can vamp
[Sophie]: oh okay
[Credence]: uh wha- [unintelligable] you give it a shot
[Sophie]: I'll get it
[Credence]: you try me
[Sophie]: so Credence what constitutes a long distance relationship ya know how far is far away
[Credence]: well uhh for me and my abandonment issues far away is pretty much over three feet
[Sophie]: [laughs] okay that's actually very good
[Credence]: so uhh no okay uhh that that was a goof umm in reality the distance isn't really so much like it ya know the distance isn't the part where it gets complicated or like there isn't like you must be there isn't a you must be this far away to consider yourself in a long distance relationship there is no like measure or maker for that but it's basically it it's long distance constitutes anything that makes seeing each other difficult
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely
[Credence]: or like a special occasion not something you can do very often now that doesn't mean that ya know you have to live super far away for that to be constituted uhh for it to be considered a long distance relationship but it also means that if you live in the same town and you just choose to not see each other that much that's not a long distance relationship it's because the distance creates an obstacle that has to be worked around
[Sophie]: right absolutely well and I think that ya know re- and in realtiy ya know what ya know when we talk about this a lot of it depends on what kind of transportation you have access to or whatever because ya know lets talk about a partner that maybe lives like an hour away well if you're in an area that's like you have a car or there's lots of high speed trains you might not consider that long distance but if it's a situation where you don't have your own transportation and there's not really a public way of getting there and to get down there you have to like take the bus and it goes around this long winding three hour route all of the sudden that becomes enough of an ordeal that you might consider that long distance uhh it's really kind of in the eye of the beholder basically as you said I think ya know whenever there's a barrier to the amount of time you can spend together that's dictated by the distance between you and your partner that's kind of when we start to call it a long distance relationship and uh in addition what that ends up meaning a lot of times is that most of the communication in the relationship and interaction happens through a medium such as the internet or letter writing uhh obviously internet more commonly
[Credence]: there's also these amazing things called phones
[Sophie]: yeah or over the phone
[Credence]: I know that my social anxiety would lead you to believe that they don't exist
[Sophie]: [laughs] I guess I'm so umm even texting to me is the internet even though it, it's technically not it's just instant messaging is so like internet fixed to me but absolutely yeah technically that's not the internet or or phone calls too
[Credence]: yeah I was, I was making a joke about talking on the phone because us mellenials are incapable of doing that
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: but honestly though, social anxiety
[Sophie]: yeah umm but anyways ya know most of your interaction is gonna occur through one of those type of mediums and not ya know in person and that's by neccecity and not by choice it's not that ya know seeing your partner all that often isn't important to you or that umm ya know you're choosing not to see them all that often ya know I also wanna mention part of the reason we're, ya know, it's like why are we talking about long distance relationships uhh aside from the fact that they have their own unique situations and problems that are often ya know created [unintelligable] of existing they often have their legitimacy challenged by the rest of socitey and many people feel that it's impossible to have a healthy productive meaningful long distance relationship now they're wrong
[Credence]: yes, they're dead wrong
[Sophie]: ya know you can be wrong plenty of people are wrong about everthing there's people that ya know don't like pickles and there's people that uh do like ranch and there's people that
[Credence]: oh come on
[Sophie]: [laughs]
[Credence]: that was low
[Sophie]: yeah that was low I'm sorry hunny, Umm but umm ya know we just wanna that that is something that some people think, they are wrong and if you think that, that just means that you really need to listen to the rest of this episode
[Credence]: hell yeah we'll convince you
[Sophie]: so, oh--go first sorry
[Credence]: and along with long distance relationship often having their ligitimacy challenged you have the added component of being polyam long distance relationship and like the legitimacy of that being challanged as well as very unique challeneges to communication and umm partner quality time that that are added components to specifically being in a long distance polyamory
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely yeah I think that that's a good point uh absolutely so when we're talking about long distance relationships uhh what goes into ya know a lot of people I think have never had a long distance relationship or are maybe in a long distance relationship for the first time so ya know how what goes into starting a long distance relationship how do they typically start cuz it doesn't exactly follow our social script ya know
[Credence]: yeah it's uh it's always a buckwild ride let me tell ya umm I have had several long distance relationships and uhh it's it's about as awkward for me asking somebody out in person as it is for me to ask somebody out umm online even if it wasn't for a specific date just even just being like hey I like you check yes or no if you like me
[Sophie]: yea there's uh I think that ya know a lot of times on this show we talk about having a lack of a social script and having to ya know make your own uhh based off of that and [laughs] this is definately something long distance relationships in general aside from long distance polyamory this is something where you definately have to uhh kind of make your own umm how do you want to say uhh kind of script for because ya know typically we associate relationships and especially early relationships with dating and going on dates so when you're not able to just go on a date with someone or whatever that's a significant barier to a lot of times even just feeling like your relationship is real and legitimate and it of course is but sometimes that can lead us to feeling like they're not legitimate
[Credence]: yeah yeah in my experience uhh the kind of like script that often comes out of like like looking back at the progression of how I went from like talking to this online friend to dating them is usually like ya know pretty standard as far as like what you would expect in an in person encounter of like flirtatious conversation getting to know someone uhh but then as you like as you talk more you get to know this person more uhh like the conversation tends to shift more towards like more of the flirtation
[Sophie]: no I think that's really good ya know one of the things you said early on and I don't know if you even realize you said it but I thought it was very good talking to a friend and ending up dating them and whatnot uhh that's not always how it happens in person it would be ideal and everything but a lot of times pepole will, ya know they don't wanna date their friends or whatever so they'll just go out and try to find someone that they're physically attracted to or whatever
[Credence]: right
[Sophie]: and ask them out, and online interactions I don't know if that's ever happened to anyone that is that is so I guess different that what I always hear about basically you almost always end up dating a friend, ya know someone you like and usually a close friend uhh so in my opinion I guess I think that's something that long distance relationships do better uhh than ya know like uhh ya know your traditional relationships
[Credence]: yeah yeah I mean like in I mean you can't tell me though you haven't like thirst followed someone on twitter or something right
[Sophie]: I only have a my only twitter is the polyamradio twitter so I've never actually done that
[Credence]: you know what I mean though right
[Sophie]: yeah for sure
[Credence]: like physical attraction can totally be a component within long distance even if you meet somebody online like I mean not everybody catphishing us I don't know I have trust issues so now I"m gonna be thinkin about that
[Sophie]: [Credence]: [laugh]
[Credence]: but like ya know like there can totally be like a physical attraction component if like you you're following somebodies blog and its like just like you casually like like their content and then go oh wow their really cute
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely but even then if you're gonna start dating them normally you become friends with them first at least in my experience
[Credence]: yeah it's definately like you strike up a conversation not like hey you're hot like don't do that like you aren't going to get anywhere with somebody if that's how you're treating them like you can have the physical attraction component but that's not the motivating factor in getting in getting to know somebody and interacting with them in long distance like the motivating factor is mostly getting to know them and like talking about them and yourself umm at least from my experience ya know I know plenty of people who kind of do online dating in a sexual way and like that's super cool but for me I'm mostly looking for partnerships built off of like solid friendships
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely umm so what goes into we talked about starting a long distance relationship ya know what goes into-
[Credence]: yeah the start is just start talking to somebody, honestly just like get to know them like it it sounds so like basic and kind of silly but just like just start talking and see where these conversations lead and like I said it's always going to come back to flirting if you guys have chemistry cuz like it just kinda happens naturally
[Sophie]: and sometimes even if you don't have chemistry and then it's real bad
[Credence]: yeah yeah that's true [laughs] then you make really bad puns and try to win women over with limeriks like me
[Sophie]: yikes that's beautiful I umm
[Credence]: it worked on you
[Sophie]: it did yeah I'm still expecting a sonnet from you at some point
[Credence]: oh that's right I owe you sonnet
[Sophie]: I uhh so ya know we talked about uhh starting a long distance relationship, what goes into maintaining a long distance relationship ya know say that you ya know you someone was listening to this espisode and paused it a few seconds ago and they're like a month into it and they're like this is going great but I have no idea how to maintain this now uhh what's some of the basic maintinence that these relationships require
[Credence]: the biggest thing is talking to each other and I know that's scary sometimes cause communication can be scary in generall but yeah you gotta talk to each other that's kind of the big basic thing
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely I think ya know in long distance relationship ya know we're gonna talk later about some of the things that can go wrong but one of the things we're gonna bring up is ghosting which is kinda disappearing on someone
[Credence]: mhmm
[Sophie]: either deliberatley or accidentally ya know uhh if you get really busy and you realize oh shit I haven't talked to this person in a week, or longer, ya know that's not ideal
[Credence]: that's that's that is less than ideal
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: that is beyond less than ideal
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely
[Credence]: you gotta keep the line of communication open even if it's just being like hey been busy we need to catch up soon and then planning time to do that
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely and I was also saying ya know finding things to do together, ya know I've never done this although I've been meaning too and I tried to do it once uhh very slyly and was kind of shot down but I was talking to one of my partners and they were they were saying ohh I'm gonna watch a movie but I don't know what movie to watch and I had heard of people kind of watching movies together over long distance and like texting each other throughout and I thought it was really cute and one of my partner was like I'm looking for a movie to watch and I was like oh well I'm ya know do you have the birdcage and they were like yeah and I was like I'm gonna watch the birdgage so if you want we would watch it together adn they were like nah I'm not really in the mood for that and I was like awwww and umm ya know
[Credence]: no that's like actually a really great example of something you can do and umm ya know whether you like time it up so that like lets say you got them on the phone and you both hit play at the same time and youy can talk to each other through the movie I only recomend doing that with a movie you've already seen otherwise it's obnoxious, I've done that before, there's also a website called rabbit umm is r a b b dot i t, umm and it lets you set up like group chats umm and or even just like one on one chats and you can play movies in the umm online application like together like one person controls it so it starts at the same time for both of you and you get a chat window where you can type where you can uhh like type uhh messages and stuff yeah where you can message each other or um you can I think you can actually do uhh like a skype kinda call with it too but uhh I haven't tried that componenet but there's lots of websites like that that exist out there that are designed for these kinds of things like umm ya know there's ways that you can play games together online
[Sophie]: I was about to mention gaming yeah if you're a gamer, like I"m not as much a gamer I wouldn't know how to set this stuff up but something that I would really like to do sometime I think would be a lot of fun is like to play mario cart with ya know like my long distance partners or something like that like I think that that could be a lot of fun and I have no idea how to set that up I guess so tweet at me I guess if you know how to do that
[Credence]: yeah yeah if you folks have like good examples of stuff you can do with your partner in a long distance relationship like that those kind of resources are amazing and I'll probably be sending some links over to Sophie to put in to the umm cat like into the caption for this
[Sophie]: yeah I can put it in the episode descriptiong
[Credence]: yeah we'll put this I'll send Sophie some links to put in umm the episode discription and maybe even tweet umm some of em over umm at uhh polyam underscore radio on twitter
[Sophie]: yeah our our twitter and our uhh our email and everything if you are looking to contact us all our information is on your cover art if you're listening to this so uhh it should be easy to get a hold of us if you're looking to
[Credence]: yeah I mean theres theres so many fun things you can do and like also just like trying to find you're own thing not like just being like well the internet says that we can really ya know we can watch movies together I guess but I don't really like movies it's like well okay then if you don't feel like watching a movie like go on a walk while you're on the phone
[Sophie]: yeah or even if you're wanting to like read the same book as someone else and like talk about it or something uhh ya know it can be I mean there are lots of things you can do I think that the biggest thing is that you have to find a way to ensure that quality time is had and shared uhh and
[Credence]: exactly
[Sophie]: yea know I think that there are lots of different ways to do that but that's the underlying thread here
[Credence]: agreed
[Sophie]: so umm ya know when we get back we're gonna talk about uh some good things and some bad things about long distance relationships but first we gotta make some money so lets go do that
[Credence]: lets go
["can't buy me love" by the Beatles plays]
[Sophie]: alright so Credence you wanna start reading our first sponsor this week
[Credence]: for sure first off is XI strength thank you so much for supporting us set in the modern day X I strength is a manga style web comic about a small yet diverse group of spiritual warriors who defend special children from supernatural creaturtes it follows the main charater elaine fortier who cracks skulls while searching for her missing mother there's already over fourty chapters up and it's gotten a lot of traction so go ahead and check it out it's on facebook at facebook dot com slash x i strength and tumblr at xi strength dot tumblr dot com
[Sophie]: and it's x i strength like like you would write eleven in roman numerals and I did ask and they said it was just xi strength umm not eleven strength umm but I just wanna make sure
[Credence]: or zi
[Sophie]: yeah or zi strength maybe ooh whoups, umm well hopefully I haven't been saying that wrong this whole time but even if I have umm it's a great webcomic absolutely impecabley illustrated uhh and it looks to be a lot of fun and they have like we said there's over fourty chapters it's a huge backlog folks and ya know I know that one of the biggest uhh things that we often hear about especially as a new podcast and whatnot is that we don't have a very big backlock yet so ya know if you're listening to this and uhh that's a complaint of yours that's not a complaint you'll have over there so you should go check it out
[Credence]: yeah those fourty chapters can get you a lot of good quality time with a long distance partner
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely yeah that would be another good thing and so I just wanna mention one more time ya know we are offering real life advertizing slots on this show so if you have a podcast or a book or a webcomic or an online esty shop or ya know anything else that you would like to have our listener base hear about we're running a special offer right now through february twenty eight twenty seventeen you can get an ad on the show for just five dollars and you can have your busines imortalized ya know as the show grows in popularity people are still gonna be coming back and listening to these episodes and they'll hear about your business and so that's a great way to get in on the ground floor of this cause every week we get tons more listeners and tons more downloads uhh so it it gotta strike while the irons hot a little bit and it helps us make ya knowmore great content and whatnot and then if you get to me before the end of January you'll recieve a special buy one get one offer where it's basically five dollars for a spot on two episodes of the show so don't wait as we grow the rates will undoubtably go up and now is the perfect time to get in on it
[Credence]: I should uhh do just want to mention it's february twenty eights twenty eighteen correct
[Sophie]: yes twenty eighteen correct
[Credence]: okay yep I just wanted to make sure I didn't ya know bleed into another timeline cuz like
[Sophie]: oh god I hope we did
[Credence]: uhh I don't know twenty seventeen can go die
[Sophie]: yeah I guess yeah so continuing on with our program now ya know what are some of the reasons that long distance relationships can commonly end ya know what are some common ya know fatal problems that they have
[Credence]: well uhh we kind of alluded to this before but uh lack of communication and lack of quality time are really the two biggest the two biggest things that contribute to the end of a long distance relationship so umm when we say lack of quality time we don't just mean like of we don't get to physically see each other very often it's ya know not doing things like watching a movie together ya know or making sure you have a skype date umm yeah quality time can mean a lot of different things so umm not setting aside the time for that is a huge factor and then of course lack of communication
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely I think that when you look as communication without that ya know that's the foundation of a relationship of any kind so a lot of times we sound like broken records on here when we talk about a lack of communication being a downfall but without that you really got nothing and then with quality time even if you got good communication and you got a good foundation if communication is the foundation quality time is like ya know what you build on top of that uhh ya know so ya know you can have the best foundations in the world but if you're not gonna build anything on it then you're not gonna have anything cool to play with
[Credence]: and one thing about lack of communication is that that doesn't just mean lack of communication between you and your long distance partner but also lack of communication with your other partners and their er lack of communication with them and their other partners because if you're not communicating well with uhh ya know communicating your needs for like quality time with your long distance partner to your other partners then that gets kind of can get pushed to the wayside when somebody is physically with you they're forefront in your mind so if you're not communicating I need to set aside this time for my long distance partner it can kind of just fall of to the wayside
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely and speaking of falling of to the wayside we alluded to this earlier but ghosting is a problem
[Credence]: oh yes
[Sophie]: ya know ghosting typically when we normally talk about it it's something that other people are deliberatley doing so they'll disappear on you ghosting is when you kind of disappear without a trace like a ghost and, oh go for it
[Credence]: ghosting is a lot more common with long distance relationships simply by the fact that you're communicating mostly through the internet or the phone and it can be easy to lose track of communicating in those avenues because of legitimate reasons and because of purposeful ignoreing of those of those modes of communication
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely and I do just wanna say ya know ghosting is a form of abuse, if you want to end a long distance relationship ya know nut up and end the relationship
[Credence]: yeah
[Sophie]: don't just ghost, uh abandoning people can be really triggering and if as much as you are worried about hurting them ya know uh maybe you're gonna hurt them worse by ghosting and really you're not protecting them no matter what you tell yourself, you're protecting yourself and it's not okay to put your needs and anxieties that much farther in front of everyone elses
[Credence]: I mean obviously if you are in a situation where you are being abused
[Sophie]: yes
[Credence]: or you are feeling unsafe for any like reason with a partner even if its a long distance partner becauase yes abuse can happen in long distance relationships and it takes on different forms umm but if you are needing to exit that relationship for your saftey then obviously do it but if you are just wanting to end a relationship and don't know how that's not the responsible thing to do and it's not healthy for you or ya know your ex partner like
[Sophie]: that's a good caveat yeah obviously if your in a abuse situation and you need to make a quick getaway or a quick exit, that's different uhh
[Credence]: and you never need to justify to an abuser why you're leaving
[Sophie]: and as a matter of fact a lot of times it's better and safer if you don't
[Credence]: exactly so umm but when we talk about ghosting we are talking about in a situation where there isn't an abusive element and basically it's just you're right ghosting the act of ghosting is abusing or it's very damaging and it's especially damaging with like a long distance relationship because you have this fear of never knowing what happened to this person umm ya know like never knowing if I mean did like did they did something horrible happen to them like that's terrifying and umm and I think it can take on different forms uhh ghosting can like uhh I've had an experience where I I was I recieved a very long winded message um from a partner who I had a long distance relationship with and it was a long winded explanation of why we had to break up that asssumed a lot of my feelings that didn't actually talk about any of the problems that we were having or brought up problems we were having that were never discussed and then just justified that's why we have to break up right now and I was in shock and I messaged back just simply okay and I never heard from this person again and so like having a one sided conversation and then never talking to the person again I don't know if that counts as ghosting but the effect is similar
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely it's still damaging and I think that that's good to when we're talking about needing to exit a relationship or something like that poise is hard to have but you should try to have it and it's worth having in these situations ya know because the more poise you handle this with probably the less damaging it's going to be for your ex basically
[Credence]: yeah and for yourself because sometimes we can say things in the heat of a moment umm make declarative statements about how we're feeling in a moment and it's not how we feel long term it's just that we're having a crisis moment and if you act on those kind of impulses without having a conversation about why you're feeling that way you can end up saying and doing things that you regret simply because well I never actually stated what I really felt or we didn't actually talk about how the relationship was going from that person's perspective ya know it does a disservice to both you and your ex because there's no resolution in that
[Sophie]: right yeah absolutely so uhh ya know lets say you have a long distance relationship and something bad happens ya know emergencies sometimes happend sometimes a crisis happens uhh ya know when catastrophe strikes and your partners are far away or partner is far away there are some things you can do to both before hand and during to umm make the situation as easy as possible on everone and I just wanna talk about those quick we are going to have an episode eventually on emergencies and crisis and ya know stuff like that uhh where we will talk about all of this at much greater length so I don't want to make it sound like this is all we're gonna be saying about it but I wanna just ya know for long distance if someone's listening to this episode ya know there are some contingencies that maybe you should handle before these things comes up
[Credence]: definately having a game plan
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: is everything
[Sophie]: yeah have a game plan the first and most important thing I think is to have a designated go between slash contact person
[Credence]: yeah
[Sophie]: a lot of times or even a couple and everybody knows their role a lot of times this is best if this person lives near you and is gonna be your emergency contact for other things let say you have a partner or a friend who is in your phone and in your work stuff as your emergency contact telling them hey there's this important person in my life and if you're not out as polyamorous you don't even have to tell them it's a partner you can just say I have this really important friend who's long distance that if I end up in the hospital for some reason or if I end up ya know horribly sick or ya know in some sort of trouble umm can you contact them on my behalf and let them know what's going on and let them know I'm fine and
[Credence]: keep them in the loop
[Sophie]: yeah and contiuously give them updates umm a lot of times when you have a uhh a situation like this people feel pressured to pick the person they're closest to to fulfill this role as the go between that is not neccecarily oh I'm sorry uh just kicking Credence here
[Credence]: oh yep
[Sophie]: a lot of times ya know maybe the single the party you've been with longest or your best friend or your parent or whoever you're gonna have fulfill this role just because they are the person that you are maybe the closest with doesn't make them the best person for this you're gonna wanna pick a very cool headed person, someone who follows directions very well, someone who's good in a crisis umm ya know there was a partner who ended up in the hospital recently of mine and who had a partner that they had been with for years and years and years and this partner and I had not been together that long and I was their emergency contact not because they liked me better, not because their other partner coudln't be trusted not because of anything like that but because I follow instructions very well I follow people's wishes very well, I"m the power of attorney for a couple different people actually because they know I'll enact their wishes
[Credence]: you've got the power
[Sophie]: yeah and ya know people know I'm good in a crisis when I get a call it's ya know so and so's doing really poorly or whatever, before I break down and cry I make the phone calls I need to make and then I break down and cry, that's just something about me, doesn't make me better than anybody else doesn't make me worse than anyone else it's just how I handle trauma and crisis cause I had to do it a lot uhh so ya know not saying ya know go pick someone like me but I think that someone who is kind of very level headed good in an emergency stuff like that is a good person to pick
[Credence]: yeah I the only thing I would ad to that is just that make sure that you're picking somebody who you know can, even if you don't know how to communicate what you're like what's going on very well right now pick somebody who understands you very well in that they can communicate what you're trying to communicate so I know for myself I can be in a situation where I'm at a loss for words and so trying to describe how I'm feeling can be very difficult and so relaying that message to somebody who then relays it to other people can be kind of difficult so somebody who kind of gets your mode of communication even when you're not doing well somebody who can understand what you're intended meaning is umm and like just having somebody who can kind of help interpret for you right now because when you're in a crisis it can be very difficult to actuall state how you're feeling and what's going on
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely well and you know sometimes when you're in a crisis you feel like you've just gotta [bangs surface twice] [sings] get away I've got to, welcome to polyfolly a podcast within a podcast where we talk about the crucial and common mistakes that people make and that are the downfalls of their polyamorous relationships cue music ["tainted love" plays] okay so uhh what's our polyfolly today
[Credence]: our polyfolly today Sophie is the failure to bring up problems as soon as they arise so they don't fester
[Sophie]: that's a good one
[Credence]: in a long distance relationship
[Sophie]: so why is that ya know why is that the polyfolly as opposed to anything else
[Credence]: I think the reason we honed in on this is on is because uhh as we said communication is the basis for a good long distance relationship and if that foundation has ya know dry rot in it from the start you're not gonna be able to build shit on top of that
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely I think that that's a good analogy uhh ya know and it's I think it part I think in long distance relationship polyamorous or no it's very easy to kind of avoid your problems ya know because ya know a lot of times you're communicating more sparesly and you're not talking as often so things can problems can be out of sight out of mind pretty easity
[Credence]: yep yep it can be really easy to compartimentalize
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: when you're in a long distance relationship so if things are not going great in fact if things are breaking bad you can actually you can hide that from your partner who's long distance and and that's not healthy it can create so many future problems not just for your relationship but for yourself and for your other relationships if ya know this this person who's important in your life only has one view of you, one view of what's going on in your life and if you're and if you're altering that view to make it look more perfect than it is it's uh, it's just it's bad news
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely so ya know we've gotten pretty heavy here ya know it's starting to sound like long distance relationships are really bad but I don't think that's the case, what are some of the benifits of long distance relationships
[Credence]: well I'm glad you asked Sophie because I think that most people tend to focus on how challenging long distance relationships can be and they forget how they have this unique quality to them that can really make them incredibly special and meaningful relationships umm for me uhh one of the biggest benifits of having a long distance relationship is being able to take the day to day stuff umm and like get to see it from a different content by stepping out of the situation and telling you're partner who hasn't seen you all day ya know or heard about your work stories a thousand times they can hear what's going on in your life and give you a new perspective and just telling somebody who'd not immidiately involved like physically there gives you the ability to kind of take a step back from the situation and and and see it in a new light that to me I think is such a a genuinely helpful quality of a long distance relationship
[Sophie]: yeah it can really help you celebrate the accomplishments that you make throughout the day
[Credence]: oh yeah and like that too like celebrating your accomplishments becomes ya know just like it's interesting I think that we have a tendency especially as ya know speaking for myself as a queer, autistic, mentally ill, disabled person that the things that I do on a daily basis that other people might see as like well yeah of course you did that that's what you have to do to be an adult umm those can be very difficult for me for whatever reason and it can be hard to celebrate your own accomplishments whether they're big or small and having somebody who you hav- who asks you earnestly about your day that pers- like who hasn't seen you all day so doesn't know ya know have the baggage of like well you've been grumpy all so your accomplishments are just been, are dumb because they wern't that big of a deal because you were mostly just a jerk today
[Sophie]: yeah well and I think ya know well we talked about a lot of times ya know I'm a rather chubby individual now but I used to be very into fitness and weighlifting and I was actually a boxer once upon a time umm and
[Credence]: I just wanna start singing the simon and garfunkel song, you said that earlier today and all I can think of is [sings] la la li, la la la la la li la la li (chorus from "the boxer" by Simon and Garfunkel) okay I'm done
[Sophie]: [laughs] umm but ya know there's something in exercises called like isolation exercises where you take like one muscle and you only exercise that muscle and a lot of times it hurts uhh and it's a pain in the ass and you can't lift that much weight because the muscle's working almost entirely by itself but it makes that muscle very strong and uhh a lot of the stuff in polyamory ya know it's like stress testing these things in a way but it can make you like a better communitator and a better partner and stuff like that and I think long distance it isolates your communication skills and really as you said before it hones in on em and ya know it forces you to be a better communicator it makes you a better communicater and that transfers into your other relationships and I think that that's a very valuble skill
[Credence]: I agree yeah being able to work on your communication skills and learn how to communicate intentionally
[Sophie]: yeah
[Credence]: and like not just how was your day good how was yours it was alright cool like that like using your time that you have with someone to communicate effectively to communicate intentionally like what is important for you to communicate to this person and what is the timeline of that and making you think through those things and appriciate just how much effort you need to to have a good conversation with somebody and like ya know not everybody can be up for that all the time I'm not saying that every conversation you need to have with your long distance partner needs to be about deep dark conflicting issues or something like that but it's ya know learning to communicate intentionally helps you develop when you need to communicate those ya know complex things and when you need to just have fun in your communication with them
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely well and ya know it you get this space to explore yourself and you can focus on what you really wanna get out of a relationship without it just being well this person is here and I like them a lot and I want them to be happy ya know it's all about intentionality and I think we've hit that nail on the head here
[Credence]: mhmm I'll drive that horse home
[Sophie]: yeah yeah absolutely so ya know what are some of the happiest experiences and happiest memories and your favorite things about long distance relationships cause I know what mine is but what are yours
[Credence]: well for me it's ya know besides like that development of that intentionality of communicating and intentionality of time spent together it's really savoring that so like not just being intentional about it but being mindful of the moment living in the moment that you get to have with your long distance partner and just savoring it justletting yourself enjoy it and keeping in mind that yeah this doesn't happen very often which is sad but it counts for it is sustaining becoming sustained off of it knowing that like I'm going to get to have more moments like this and these moments are everything that keeps this relationship going and is doing a lot of good for me in my life and that doesn't mean just savoring your umm your like irl or in real life time together that can just be savoring the time that you get to be on the phone the time you get to do a skype call and see your partner's fave or hell it can be just even savoring the moments where you get to exchange memes with each other on your lunch break yeah I guess for me it's my favorite thing about long distance is just been learning to savor those moments and and help me realize that my relationship can be sustained on those moments and that trickles into my other relationships too it's like it helps me learn that I might not always get to be around this partner whom I'm lived with for years but that doesn't mean that our relationship is gonna fade away cauase I have this knowledge and this sense of intentionality to keep it going
[Sophie]: yeah absolutely I think that my uhh one of the things that I really cherished about one of my long distance relationships ya know I mentioned earlier in this episode that somewhat recently there was a long distance partner of mine who eneded up in the hospital and those hospital phone calls were really special to me and I really cherished them ya know partly because there was an emergency and there was a crisis and I was scared ya know cause I love them a lot and it was hard for everybody but getting to hear their voice was incredile and it helped so much I think for both of us umm and uh ya know it really umm it broke up our [laughs] it broke up our day to day and it broke up the pattern that we had been communitating in and as we mentioned before it caused us to communicate very intentionally and uhh ya know that was ya know yeah it was a bad situation but that was something really special that came out of it in my mind and I wouldn't trade those phone calls for anything in the world
[Credence]: yeah it sounds like you were able it sounds like you were able to break out of that compartimentalizing of like the relationship being framed in this one kind of style of communicating where maybe you weren't communicating very effectively and maybe it took a crisis to do it you folks were able to find a way to reach that kind of communicating with ya know mindful intention to it and I think thats amazing
[Sophie]: yeah yeah it's ya know whenever I go through something really hard in my life I have the attidude of I will not get through this without gaining something from it because I'm going to get through it one way or another but I refuse to have this just be a terrible situation that I didn't learn anything or gain anything from like come hell or highwater I'm learning something from this or I'm getting something out of it because the alternative sucks even more which is to say that this happened for no reason whatsoever so ya know before we wrap up here a few points of order I always mention we have a twitter a facebook and we have a patreon which is all really cool and the links are on your cover art please consider susporting us on patreon we have some really cool rewards starting at one dollar a month you'll get a shoutout on the show which uhh ya know you get at the upper levels you get every other level too so I wanna say thank you to Merca Alexa McCool and Ari Stilman thank you both we have Jade we have Vlad and we have Miles Kataro uhh so thank you all so much uhh you're absolutely wonderful and uhh for Jade and for Merca and Ari they are at the five dollar leve which means that they have access to a bonus episode that we uploaded [Credence]: ohooooo [Sophie]: basically how I wanted, I'm uncomfortable with putting good advice behind a paywall for the bonus episodes so what we're doing is we're doing kind of profiles and deep dives into specific people who are good at polyamory and we're talking about the things that make them particulary sucessfull at polyamory the experiences they've had good and bad advice they want to give the world stuff like that uhh so if you need advice on a specific topic it won't be behind a paywall because I'm uncomfortable with that but it is really good and interesting stuff and I hope you learn more about thep eople who are on the show so if you're at a five dollar level that'll get you that and if anyone wants to do the ten dollar level that's only five dollars and episode and you'll get all the episodes a week early on there and as soon as someone does that I will start uploading the episodes a week early ya know all of you we really appriciate your continued support I know this is a small chanell and we're just starting out but even a dollar a month from a few of you helps us offset the cost of some new equipment we're looking to investing into to make our sound quality even better and would really help us just make the podcast the absolute best it can be and so if you enjoy the podcast please this week share it with at least one friend or partner just one person you can even say hey I'm just gonna download this on your phone quick and then you got it, we don't have the money to pay for advertizing so if this is going to work and take off it's going to be all on ya'll and I can't tell you how amazing it feels to know that ya know we're just starting out we've only been doing this a couple months and we already have all these amazing fans who are even tuning in even day of that the downloads drop and everything umm ya know and and listening to what we have to say and that's a really cool feeling I hope this is helpful to yall and please if you're interested if you're on twitter and facebook and social media go follow and like us there because there's a lot of cool updates and some content and me shitposting every now and then that you're missing out on if you're not on there
[Credence]: before you go Sophie I have to tell you, I really like your metamors
[Sophie]: [laughs]
[Credence]: you know why
[Sophie]: why
[Credence]: cause I never meet a-mor I didn't like
[Sophie]: [Credence]: [laughs]
[Sophie]: that was bad
[Credence]: this is why she's dating me
[Sophie]: yeah pretty much so now that we got that out of the way thanks for listeing and for your continued support and as always remember
[Sophie]: [Credence]: dont' date your best friend's dad and don't date your dad's best friend
[Sophie]: see you next time folks

User Review
Author:
Rating: 10/10 I'm going to be honest about this: I like unabashedly violent action films. I'm 42 years old, I'm from Texas and I can take it. Growing up with films like 'Rambo', 'Die Hard', 'The Terminator' and 'Robocop', I can't stand that watered-down "no-blood-no-swearing" gutless kiddie fare that is being served as "action" these days. I know the real thing when I see it – we used to see it all the time back in the day – and I hardly ever see it anymore.
Which brings me to this movie. 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' was being shown just around the corner from where I live, and because I loved two of director Matthew Vaughn's previous films, 'Layer Cake' and 'Kick-Ass', I naturally took the chance to see it. I had already read some comments from previous screenings that this film was totally bad-ass, and I can now say that's actually putting it mildly. This film is nothing short of bat-shît crazy.
Years ago Tarantino said in an interview that he had written a James Bond script and that he would love to direct a Bond film. Sadly, that never happened, but ever since I read that I wondered what an R-rated Bond might be like. I don't know, maybe Matthew Vaughn has read that interview too and saw the potential, because 'Kingsman' is pretty much that: An ultra violent, funny, crazy, foul-mouthed James Bond film (with a little bit of 'Men in Black' and 'Mission Impossible' thrown in). You could say that this is to Bond what 'Game of Thrones' is to 'Lord of the Rings': Where the former can't and dare not go (for marketing and box office reasons), the latter joyfully and gloriously ventures. Dirty and (very black) humor – check. Bad language – check. Gratuitous violence – check. Needless to say, I was thrilled.
But it's also a fantastic action film with an amazing cast (Oscar winners Colin Firth and Michael Caine, plus Sam Jackson AND Mark Hamill) and spectacular, over-the-top fight-scenes that in some instances even rival films like 'The Raid' for their sheer visceral intensity. In short, if you're as fed up with lame wannabe Die-Hards and Terminators as I am, go watch this film. Apart from the rare 'John Wick' or 'Equalizer', 'Kingsman' seems to be pretty much the only antidote to the toothless, generic tripe Hollywood tries to pass for action these days. 9 stars for the film and the story, 11 stars for the balls to pull this off the way they did. Average = a perfect 10.
EDIT:
P.S. I recently stumbled upon an article on the importance of R rated movies. If you're a film fan (especially of films that don't cater to teenagers), you might find it as enlightening as I have:
