i think that sometimes the "block and move on" method has the unfortunate consequence of never asking for clarification. i feel like there used to be more of a culture of sending someone anons to ask what they meant by something. like a "i think youre wrong about this and heres why" that sometimes ends in a "oh, that's what i meant. we agree, actually. you misinterpreted me." because that's happened to me a lot.
i'm really more talking about breaking mutuals/ending a friendship as opposed to blocking randos you see in tags n shit. and also im not talking about fandom opinions im talking about things that like, hold importance in society and shit. opinions where if someone thinks that way, i don't want to be friends with them type of opinions.
idk i just always would prefer someone tell me they disagree with me and have a discussion about it and maybe one of us will change our minds and it'll end up that we're on the same side after all instead of just blocking and never speaking again
#personal#also not to say im not guilty of this#i made this post because i feel like i have regretfully blocked ppl i should have talked it out with before#i used to go and confront ppl a lot and be like hey why do u think this because heres how i feel#but i had an experience where someone just like. told me to shut up basically and was like 'if u disagree just block me dont try to-#change my mind' etc. so i was like oh. ok. well. guess ill just block and move on from now on so THAT doesn't happen again
