yk when i think about it, especially when im watching the anime with people who havent read the manga, the reason a lot of people who only watch the anime and didnt read the manga misinterpreted saikis character so badly is definitely in part because of how damn fast paced the anime is 😭

like that little smile and eye shine frame is there for not even half a second in the anime, so its easier to miss it and assume that he really did only finish those workbooks to get coffee jelly ☠️ its much more clear if you get a good look at how he reacts here that hes just a silly little tsundere and a fucking liar

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING by KUSUO SAIKI

٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و ♡ Inspired by Laufey's song "While you were sleeping", Kusuo Saiki falls in love with you at 3:30 am, he "hates" it ( spoiler; he does not )

warnings. pure fluff. ooc!saiki i think. corny and cheesy story i thought of at 12:47 am after thinking of the guy i like. mentions of yn. grammar mistakes. from saikis pov kinda. being in love. sweet fluff before all the angst (707 angst coming soon.) i just love saiki a lot :(.

The clock read 3:30 am, and the pink haired boy still couldn't sleep, so deep in his thoughts. But, what was he thinking about? Could it be a plan to become average and leave his friend group forever or the amount of noise there is in the middle of the night that the average person couldn't hear? or maybe it's the girl with [h/l] [h/c] hair. Probably the first one, or maybe it's the last one. It's definitely the last one.

He doesn't know how he began to think of you this late, one moment he was getting ready to sleep, the other, he was thinking of how pretty you would look if he wasn't a pyschic and without his powers. He hates how you left him in this position, while you were sleeping without a care in the world, Kusuo Saiki had just began to fall in love with you. He absolutely hates it (he doesn't. he's lying to himself again.)

He just hopes it's a one time thing, that your playing mind games with him (how is that possible??? he's a god damn psychic!!) and that when he does go to sleep, that it'll never happen again. Yeah, this is just a one time thing...

It's 9:76 am. Six hours after that predicament. And he was so wrong, since that night, he couldn't bring himself to sleep without the thought of you within him, each time he did try to sleep, you were in his dreams. One way or another,you started to appear in his daily thoughts more and more often. When he was getting ready for school, everything and everywhere he went and did, you were in his mind. Like a lost puppy you were following him around in his thoughts, he absolutely hates it. He hates how when he gets to school you're there and you're talking to your friends and spot him and wave at him with your dumb smile. He hates how after class you greet him and both of you hard to lunch, he hates how you know that he likes being alone and leave him to himself, knowing well enough that he doesn't mind being with you, even if it means he's sacrificing his own time just to be with you.

And he's back at square one, the clock ticking and the time is 3:30 am, thinking of you again, how candy can't compete with how sweet you are, that the way you smile might as well be on par with Teruhashi, how your kindness and friendliness can make someone's teeth fall out. Everything about you is on his mind, and while you're sleeping again, like a baby, he's falling more and more deeper in love with you.

Sweet and Kind YN LN stuck in Kusuo Saiki's head, and he's beginning to like it, he likes everything about you, he likes how you always get him coffee jelly, even though you don't like coffee. He likes how you try to get him away from his and yours friend group just for you and him enjoy the silence for a while, he loves loves loves the idea of being your boyfriend one day.

And maybe that idea might become true. He just hopes that when it does, the both of you will be in bed together awake at 3:30 am and in love.

I love the idea that Teruhashi might be thinking this. (I know she isn’t Teruhashi, but still.) It’s so outright aggressive and mean, instead of her more low key “Saiki should be obsessed with me!” thoughts as in canon proper, lol.

Also notable that the first mention of Saiki being markedly different from other people is here: “If a normal person heard them he would undoubtedly have a mental breakdown after three seconds.” Maybe it’s true, probably an exaggeration on Saiki’s part, but it definitely highlights that what he deals with, mentally, is on another level, and he is able to deal with it.

LMAO. this one made me laugh… it’s like yikyak but worse!! like yikyak but including things people wouldn’t even say on there, read out loud… phewww.

Saiki says his powers are “in the wrong” rather than peoples’ thoughts. However, the way he words the second part about how you can’t dress up what’s on the inside strikes me as odd. I was trying to think of the reasoning behind this sort of sentiment that Saiki expresses here, because it repeats later in the manga proper. And I think, it boils down to this incorrect assumption he has, that people’s thoughts are their true feelings. My guess on where comes from is probably either Kuniharu or Kuusuke, who both express a lot of resentment for him. In each of their cases, that really is how they feel, and they make no effort to change it, and there’s not a lot of positive emotion thrown in there either. At least as a child, Kuusuke spent a lot of time actively trying to hurt his brother. And Kuniharu probably did too, if we take all of the examples of him trying to get “revenge” on Kusuo into account.

So it never occurs to him at first that people might have intrusive thoughts, or have thoughts they don’t necessarily believe pass through their heads, or thoughts they ultimately challenge and thoughts that directly contradict their behavior.

Okay angsty rant over lol

‘nother thing that strikes me as funny, not in a good way this time… really now. I have never met a girl who was that jealous of another girl’s boobs. If anything, I’ve met girls who got them too young and wished they hadn’t because of teasing.

Maybe it’s a cultural difference, maybe it’s the fact that a male author wrote this who doesn’t really know (or care) about accurately depicting teenage girls’ concerns in a comedy… anyways.

I beg to differ Saiki… that IS an incredible tattoo and I want to see it… I want that tattoo.. haha. And who cares if some people are bald?? and trans people exist?? Saiki likes to complain about things that do not matter at all. I guess he probably feels like it’s a burden to keep other people’s secrets, or something. He is just a teenager after all.

It kinda boggles my mind that there are people who deny this like?? Is it not abundantly clear that that guy is aroace? He loves his friends and even cares for teruhashi but it’s so clear he has no romantic and sexual feelings for her. When he loses his powers, he does realise that she is pretty but he thinks of it in such a matter of fact, objective way and there’s no romantic undertones. I can see him and teruhashi becoming great friends in the future tho when she gets over her crush. I talked of this ship in particular because it’s the most popular one i am seeing and I just don’t get it. At all. It’s like we didn’t even watch the same show lmao

'bpd makoto teruhashi??'- a character analysis/yapping session because no one understands the siblings like i do

Time to turn the capslock on for this one! The writing might be incoherent, but I want to focus on getting my thoughts out with this one, so be aware. Let me start this post by clarifying - I am not a psychologist. This is for fun, done used resources I've found online. This is about an anime character, not about a real person's struggles.

Trigger warning for obvious sibling marriage romanticization mention sighhh like we aren't talking about it constantly when it comes to him apparently.

We all know the way Makoto has been protrayed in the series - a comically overexaggerated siscon. His portrayal makes many people uncomfortable due to his perverted obsessive behavior.

Except, I'm going to throw it all out the window cuz in this post I meant to take a look at his behavior from a fan's perspective without any biases like 'eww yucky siscon make me uncomfy'. NONE of that here.

I'll start by addressing the elephant in the room and the main reason i'm making this post: Makoto's obsession. Both of the Teruhashi siblings have obvious superiority complexes, however, Makoto is overshadowed by his little sister's charm, whom he idealizes and has an unhealthy attachment to. He's aware of his own charm and beauty, but only takes it to account to point out how he's the only one worthy of Kokomi's love and attention.

Kokomi has clearly been his whole world ever since she was born. A life-long fascination and attachment that went unnoticed. His perfect little sister is able to change his mood drastically whenever she's getting attention from anyone other than him or is even slightly dissatisfied with him.

He lacks a sense of self - only Kokomi matters for him. He's able to ditch his responsibilities in an instant, only to be with her. He's depicted as a cherub to Kokomi's goddess appearance in the mobile game and as a chauffeur in the Duet Shite KudaPsi anime end credits. Always below her, as her servant.

He becomes severely distressed and panics over even something so simple as a her getting a cold. (Just like everyone else at her school, but he's there for her.)

At all times he needs to make sure she isn't surrounded by men that are 'unworthy' of her, even to the point of stalking her to get some piece of mind. He craves her approval and cares for her like no one else in the entirety of the manga. (Example: Taking her to movie theatres and watch every movie he has ever starred in to show her.) These are signs of Kokomi being Makoto's 'favorite person'.

Awesome, but does it explain Makoto seeing her not as his sister, but as a future wife? Is it just him making things way creepier in his mind than they need? Yes, actually.

Makoto's overprotective and obsessive behavior is comically exaggerated, duh, but if we think about it for a second... Kokomi is a person he's been there for her whole life, he provides and protects her from unwanted attention. He dedicated his whole life to her and knowing there is an unavoidable future of his whole world collapsing because someone will take his place. Not as a siblings, but as a lover - something more important than family. How can he avoid this? By being the one to marry her, of course. No one but him is worthy of her anyway, right? Why should she need anyone else? No matter how messed up that sounds, it's his way of thinking.

Now let's go over some of the diagnostic criteria for BPD. I'll be using this site and infographic as my resource, just to give a few simple (but appropiate in my opinion) examples.

Fear of abandonment, rejection - while it's not explicitly stated, I believe his 'marriage' thing is just that. Not wanting to be abandonned and forgotten by the only person he loves and cares about. I don't believe he has any perverted motive behind it. Just fear and wanting her only for himself.

Idealization and devaluation - both extremes show up in his behavior. Most notably towards Kokomi or Kusuo. He's hostile and outright rude to Kusuo, but the moment Kokomi shows up he becomes all sunshine and rainbows. Another example of it is his indifference towards Kokomi's friends, compared to the excessive attention he gives to his sister. My theory is that Makoto doesn't have relationships due to a predisposition to making his relations with other people unstable, or never even bothering to try in the first place. (Like he is towards Ruchi, for example.)

Impulsivity and inappropiate anger - he rushes to anger the moment his love is threatened. A simple thought of Kokomi getting romantic advances enrages him. Even if it could cost him his career or his public image - something Kokomi cares about the most for herself, the opposite to her brother.

Emotional instability - we've only been shown his mood swings like the one below. If we got to see more of his personal life, this one would be much clearer, but it's something a siscon pun character doesn't get to have in a comedy manga, so I'll leave it at that.

Paranoia - Let the image below speak for itself... His delusions can be interpreted as a symptom on its own, too.

But what could've caused this? Since we never see what the Teruhashi siblings' parents are like, it's easy to assume Makoto has a role of her caretaker or a provider, due to only these two being ever shown living in the wealthy Teruhashi residency. The only time we ever see their parents being acknowledged is when Saiko spread a fake rumor of Mugami Tooru having an affair. Note: We never actually see them, we don't know if they're even there.

My personal theory is simple - Kokomi's charm and absent parental figures must've affected Makoto's development and made him emotionally dependent solely on Kokomi's well being. I'm taking his idol career into an account as well, since he must've been scouted into show business in his teens, or earlier. (He was already famous by 17.)

Conclusion: I think Makoto is an interesting example of a person with BPD in media, but I'm often disappointed how little we talk about it. Or maybe I'm just too obsessed with him to see him only as what he is on the surface. :3

PHEW. So after like 4 hours of trying to put my words into one big post I think that's all I had to say for now about this topic~! I have a lot of love for this boy and I really needed to get my thoughts out about this theory of mine. Sorry for unnecessary rambling and incoherence at times. Thanks for reading!

Notes: The poll results came in, so I think I will be posting Saiki K fanfics on here. When I was sick recently, I found myself rewatching my favorite anime 'The Disastrous Life of Saiki K'. As I was watching, I found myself thinking about how Saiki could be friends with Haruhi. They could bond over being annoyed with the people around them. It's always intimidating for me to post a fanfic in a fandom for the first time, so I hope you like it. I may have an idea for a continuation, that may be multichapter (or multiple parts) this time.

Saiki's school had entered an academic performance contest for a special trip to Karuizawa. Class representative Hairo's effective motivation for the student body aided their school's performance. So they managed to win the trip. This vacation spot in Karuizawa is apparently a popular visit for distinguished rich people. Particularly those whose kids attended the prestigious Ouran academy.

 The PK students were of course very excited. Kusuo was more going because of his parents’ insistence that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Plus, it would look strange if he didn’t go when literally everyone wanted to go.

So he found himself in a familiar scenario. He walked with a group through the shopping area, in a vacation spot. The idiots around him arguing about which places to go to. Somehow the girls were with them this time. The girls weren’t arguing as much as the guys were. The main consensus seemed to be they wanted to check out all the stores. Good grief.

The trip and food was covered, but individual purchases were not. There was no guarantee they’d be able to afford anything at the souvenir shops for rich people.

‘Damn rich people.’

Kusuo overheard among the many other thoughts around.

Just then a group of very attractive guys around their age walked over.

“I already told you, sempai. I really don’t want anything,” A brunette in their group was saying.

A handsome blonde spun around dramatically.

“Nonsense, my dear Haruhi! There are so many sights to see here at our favorite vacation spot. Surely there has to be something we can get you,” He said.

Haruhi just groaned in response. Apparently she was resigned to the fact that there was no use arguing against him.

The two groups paused as they came across each other. Saiki’s group was filled with thoughts about how these must be some of the rich boys who came to vacation there. How handsome they were, and how strange it was that one of them was dressed more casually than the others.

Whereas for the Ouran group, just thoughts about how ‘oh yeah, they’d heard there was a school that won a trip to come here.’ The Ouran boys were dressed much nicer. So it was probably pretty obvious that Saiki’s group wasn’t rich.

There was also a thought about if they still needed to hide that Haruhi is a girl around the group or not. Huh, so apparently they had been hiding that one was a girl. Kusuo wondered why that was.

The taller Blonde glanced to Haruhi and then back over to Saiki’s group.

‘I bet I can impress Haruhi by really catering to these commoners.’

He gave a charming smile and stepped forward.

“Greetings fellow guests of this vacation spot in Karuizawa!” He bowed dramatically to the girls of the group.

“I am Tamaki Suoh, an annual vacationer here. I also run my school’s host club. Where we serve entertain,” He reached forward and kissed Teruhashi’s hand (because of course it was hers)

,”The lovely young ladies who attend,” He said. The girls blush and cover their mouths with giggles. He handed her a rose.

Where did that rose come from? Does this guy just always have roses on him in case he comes across a pretty girl? Wow.

Teruhashi accepted the rose with a smile. Tamaki stood up again.

“We would be happy to give you a tour of the area and help you in any way in your time visiting here,” He said. He looked back at the other boys he arrived with.

“Right, gentleman?” He said.

The others except Haruhi all seemed to exchange looks with each other. Apparently catching on quick. A pair of identical twin boys with red hair quickly stepped forward as well and also bowed.

“Of course, Tamaki!”

“We’d be happy to help!” They each said. The second winking at the girls. The girls giggled again. The boys in Saiki’s group seemed unsure how to take this offer. Especially as the hosts were clearly flirting with the girls.

Haruhi just rolled her eyes at the boys’ actions. …her?...his?...theirs?...hm, Kusuo would use they in his head for Haruhi for now and wait and see how the others referred to them.

Teruhashi smiled at the hosts.

“Thank you so much for such a kind offer,” She said.

The hosts stared just stared at her for a moment with blushes. Even Haruhi, which had surprised Kusuo. Almost like they all weren’t used  to being floored by a pretty girl.

They shook their heads, and Tamaki cleared his throat.

“Of course! We love to assist,” He said, nearly losing his composure. Kusuo heard thoughts from the other hosts surprised as they noticed that as well.

The boys in Saiki’s group of course were not thrilled by the attention the hosts were giving Teruhashi. The only one who seemed to think of any of the other girls was Kaidou, over Chiyo. Although that had been slowly developing for a while.

“How about we start with the first shop here?” Tamaki asked. Teruhashi smiled and nodded.

“That sounds great!” She said. The two groups started for the first shop. There wasn’t enough room for everyone to enter. The PK boys seemed less interested for the moment anyways. Grumpy about the attention the hosts were getting from the girls.

Why did this idiot Tamaki think this would impress Haruhi? They seemed more annoyed by this than anything.

Kusuo waited with them outside. Haruhi also stayed out there. Tamaki looked back.

“Haruhi! Aren’t you coming in?” Tamaki asked.

“No thanks. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of room in there anyways,” Haruhi said.

Tamaki hmmed and seemed to think for a moment. Then he turned back to the girls he lead into the shop and offered to buy them anything they wished for in there.

“Oh, you really don’t have to do that, Tamaki!” Teruhashi exclaimed.

Tamaki bowed again, somehow despite the little space in the shop. Gosh, that guy was so extra.

“Oh please, it is no big deal to me! I’d rather be sure such lovely young ladies get the chance to have nice souvenirs befitting their beauty,” He said with charm. The girls giggled again.

Haruhi sighed and rolled their eyes.

Most of the girls were still shy about asking for anything. Even though Kusuo could see in their minds the things they wanted from the shop. It got to the point where the hosts, would start pointing things out and asking if any of the girls wanted that. It was mainly Tamaki and the twins doing this.

Apparently these guys picked up on what the girls had been eyeing. Eventually, the girls did finally admit to what they wanted. When the guys pointed to the right things.

The continued shyness about the offer was an act for Teruhashi. But they did all seem very appreciative to the host club members for doing this for them.

Haruhi wondered what the fellow hosts were up to with such offers. They’d never seen the hosts be so generous before. Then again, most of the time they were around other rich people and wouldn’t need to offer paying for things.

Damn rich people.

Still, it was surprising. Haruhi hadn’t really seen the other hosts pay much attention to other commoners. That is, aside from Haruhi themselves.

Kusuo internally hmmed. The hosts definitely weren’t impressing Haruhi in the way Tamaki had hoped in his daydreams. But it seemed he wasn’t too far off after all.

As the shopping trip dragged on though, Haruhi’s patience waned. Especially since Haruhi hadn’t really been interested in shopping in the first place.

Later on both groups made it to a bigger shop where everyone could fit inside without being squished. The other guys in Saiki’s group had a little more enthusiasm now that they could reach other souvenirs. Not as grumpy about the hosts’ attention as earlier, but it was still prevalent.

The size of this one meant there wasn’t really a reason for Haruhi and Kusuo to wait outside the shop this time.

Haruhi was standing in the back of the shop sort of just watching as the two groups went around the shop. Internally grumbling about how they were annoyed with the host club’s antics this time. Well, that was something Kusuo could understand in a way.

Despite Haruhi’s annoyance, Kusuo found their thoughts to be much calmer to be around. Compared to everyone else in proximity that is. So, Kusuo carefully walked over and just stood in the back with them.

He didn’t mind being by them too much. Something about understanding being annoyed with the people around you.

Haruhi glanced over to Kusuo. They were surprised that the quietest one of the other group stood by them. Then again, most of the boys had seemed a bit annoyed with the attention the hosts were giving the girls. Typical. Although, he didn’t seem interested in looking around the shop like the others were.

Kusuo was honestly more interested in special sweets he could get around there. Their groups hadn’t made it over to a sweets shop yet. At this rate they might not make it to one before such shops closed for the day though. Good grief.

It’s not like the hosts had made the same offer to buy things for the boys in the group anyways. Maybe they were worried about looking gay. It’s not like the boys were really complaining anyways. Well, maybe a bit in Kaidou’s thoughts, but the immature guy probably wouldn’t admit to such a thing. Maybe it was just because none of the guys had reacted as interested as the girls had. Again, probably because they didn’t want to seem gay or something.

Kusuo didn’t know much about the host clubs concept. From what he heard though, none of these high school hosts seemed to have a problem catering to anyone.

Back to his sweets preference though. The reason he didn’t go off on his own to get a treat he wanted anyways. He found he was unsure about leaving the chaotic groups. Because he couldn’t seem to help but be overprotective of these people who thought they were his friends. When did he become like this? He never thought he was that selfless.

Then again, one of the hosts who wore glasses kept looking over everyone in the two group’s interactions. Like he was scrutinizing everything. And Kusuo could hear how this Kyoya was analyzing how anything could be used to his favor and the host club’s. So yeah, Kusuo wasn’t a fan of that. He figured it might be best to keep an ear out for that guy. So none of these idiots get taken advantage of.

Anyways, Haruhi was wondering if they should try and say something to him. Kusuo found he didn’t mind the possibility of conversation too much from them. Although he’d still prefer the quiet.

“…you’re not interested in any of the stuff here either, hm?” Haruhi asked.

Kusuo paused for a moment and then shook his head.

“Hmm, same…I’ve uh, never really been a big stuff person,” Haruhi said.

Kusuo shot them a small smile at that. He understood that. Unless sweets counted as stuff in this case.

Haruhi sighed.

“Sempai and many of the other hosts always go overboard with this kind of stuff,” They said.

You’d think Tamaki and the others would catch on by now that stuff doesn’t impress me, they thought.

It sounded like those boys were rich idiots.

Kusuo was surprised that he nearly shared his own annoyances with Haruhi. That wasn’t like him. Maybe there was just something about Haruhi that got people to open up to them. That kind of reminded Kusuo of his mom in a way.

Haruhi glanced to Kusuo again.

He’s quiet. It kind of reminds me of Mori sempai.

Kusuo then got a mental image of the tallest host with dark hair. The one who seemed to hang around the smallest blonde of the group.

For some reason I’m tempted to ask if this guy wants to go somewhere calmer. So we can escape the hyper antics of our combined groups.

The thought was tempting to Kusuo as well.

“…can I ask what your name is?” Haruhi asked.

“Kusuo Saiki.”

“Ah okay, I’m Haruhi Fujioka,” They said.

“I know, or at least I caught your first name. That Tamaki guy shouted it a couple of times,” Kusuo said.

Haruhi huffed at the reminder and rolled their eyes again.

“Yeah, he’s always been…excitable like that,” They said.

That was one way to word it. He’s always so eager to impress me, and I just don’t get why.

Kusuo thought he had an idea. He may not have been interested in relationships himself. But even he could tell that Tamaki guy clearly had feelings for Haruhi. Maybe it was just from all the relationship stuff Kusuo had overheard through the years.

“…have you known them long?” Kusuo found himself asking despite himself.

“Just since I started at Ouran Academy. Although I do see them a lot as a member of the host club myself,” Haruhi said.

…wait wasn’t Ouran academy primarily a school for rich kids? Haruhi didn’t seem like they were.

“You’re probably wondering how I attend Ouran academy when I don’t seem like I’m rich, hm?” Haruhi said.

Kusuo blinked. Well, he supposed it made sense they’d be used to such questions. After a moment Kusuo hesitantly nodded.

Haruhi laughed a bit.

“It’s okay, I know a lot of people I encounter wonder about that. I got in through a special scholarship,” They said.

Ah, that made sense. Not to brag, but it was probably the type of scholarship Kusuo could easily get as well if he wanted to. But he didn’t, because he’d be sure to stand out from doing so and he didn’t want that at all. It was definitely an impressive feat though. Kusuo had respect for them to have such an accomplishment. Haruhi definitely earned their right for such fine education. Probably more than the other rich brats there who hadn't worked for it. Kusuo had never been very materialistic.

“Congratulations,” He said.

“Thanks, it took a lot of work. Even though things didn’t go the way I imagined they would at this school, I wouldn’t take it back,” Haruhi said.

Kusuo hmmed and nodded slowly after a moment.

There was another thing though. A scholarship student didn’t seem likely to end up part of that type of club to him. Even though Kusuo didn’t know much about host clubs. He found himself wondering how Haruhi even ended up part of such a club. They didn’t jump at the chance to cater to the girls the way the other hosts had. Then again, Haruhi not being a guy in the way the others were might be a factor as well.

“I probably also don’t seem like the host type, do I?” Haruhi asked.

…no fair. Telepathy was Kusuo’s thing.

Haruhi sighed.

“It’s a long story…but basically I broke an expensive vase in the host club, and I’ve been working as a host to work off my debt,” Haruhi said.

Kusuo winced at that. Yikes. That sucked.

“…yeah,” They said.

“Even though the other hosts can be a bit much at times, I suppose it could always be worse,” Haruhi said.

Kusuo just hmmed at that. He got some mental images from Haruhi then. Images of exciting things that had happened with the host club. Including one that was apparently Haruhi’s first kiss. It looked like it was an accident. It was also with another girl.

…Kusuo bet there was an interesting story behind that one as well. It did seem like both he and Haruhi didn’t get many moments of peace the way they both seemed to want. In a way it was nice to be around someone who understood. Even if their situations were different.

As tempting as it is to escape, I might actually feel a bit bad leaving them. Although really, I more just don’t want to deal with the inevitable freakout from Tamaki if I did, Haruhi thought.

Kusuo found he somehow felt similarly. Although none of the nuisances in his group seemed as dramatic as this Tamaki guy. Good grief. Something told Kusuo that guy would give him many headaches just from being around him a little bit. He was glad now he had put some distance between himself and the combined groups.

It seemed the others were winding down with their purchases from this shop. The hosts ended up carrying the bags for the girls that they bought for them. Except for the little blonde, but his tall bodyguard seemed to make up for it.

As they were leaving Teruhashi turned to Kusuo and smiled. He was a bit surprised she even bothered to give him any attention. She’d gotten plenty of attention from Tamaki after all.

“Hey everyone, how about we head to a sweets café next? Before any of them close. I noticed Saiki didn’t get a chance to get anything, and he always seems to be a fan of sweets,” She says with a pretty giggle.

Kusuo perked up at that. He was surprised by the offer, but wasn’t going to say no to such a thing. Haruhi raised their eyebrows at that, wondering about that interaction.

Unfortunately, all of them looked at Kusuo after Teruhashi said that. Great, more attention.

Tamaki thought about how sweet this girl must be to make such an offer for her friend.

Yeah, she doesn’t see him as just a friend. But again, Kusuo wasn’t going to pass up a chance to get some sweets.

Tamaki smiled and bowed dramatically again.

“But of course! I know just the place. Honey is a big fan of sweets as well, so we always make sure to stop by this place when we come to visit,” Tamaki said. The small blonde who must be Honey smiled and nodded,

“Yep!” He cheered. The girls cooed at his cuteness. Even Kaido seemed taken in by the adorable small boy. It was hard to believe this kid was one of the oldest. How was he so short?

Anyways, they made it to the sweets café in time. Thankfully not pushing it close to the closing hours. So they wouldn’t seem like jerks. There was one treat that really caught Kusuo’s interest. It seemed to be a very sweet coffee ice cream dessert. Teruhashi asked what he was getting, which he told her. Then she decided to get it as well. So did Haruhi. Then everyone was getting what he picked out. Really? Well, he supposed it was one of the more popular treats there.

After Kusuo got his ice cream, he had to figure out where to sit. At first he was going to sit by Haruhi, they seemed to hit it off well earlier. But then Tamaki was quick to sit next to them. Haruhi made an annoyed face, but Kusuo could hear they weren’t nearly as annoyed as they let on. Huh, maybe Haruhi did like Tamaki back. It was hard to tell. Although they did seem to feel bad that Tamaki might drive away their new friend. And well…they weren’t exactly wrong.

Teruhashi seemed surprised by who Tamaki decided to sit next to, but she didn’t let it show. She just gave Kusuo another smile.

“Hey, how about we sit over here Saiki?” She asked.

Tamaki seemed surprised that Teruhashi kept wanting to get Saiki’s attention. He wondered if it was similar to how he was with Haruhi.

Good grief. Kusuo really hoped this Tamaki guy didn’t try to do anything from this realization. He seemed like the meddling type. Kusuo didn’t need annoying people trying to match make him with Teruhashi. Talk about unwanted attention.

Kusuo knew it would stand out if he went to sit by himself, as much as he wanted to. Especially after Teruhashi made sure they went somewhere Kusuo would like. So he went to sit on Haruhi’s other side anyways. Figuring solidarity against annoying people would be nice.

Teruhashi was immediately jealous of who Kusuo sat next to. Even though she had been the one to suggest they sit there in the first place. He didn’t really get why though. She didn’t seem to suspect Haruhi wasn’t a guy in the way the other hosts were. Maybe just because Tamaki was already giving Haruhi attention.

But Tamaki was jealous of Kusuo sitting there as well. Good grief. Teruhashi sat across from them. The other hosts sat with the girls at other tables nearby. The Pk boys were almost on their own but still close. Despite the attention of the other hosts, Chiyo had ended up wanting to sit with Kaidou still. The hosts caught the hint Chiyo wanted to be alone with Kaidou, but apparently no one else did. As Teruhashi was wrapped up in wanting Kusuo’s attention again. Kaidou tried to tell Nendou to sit somewhere else. But because Nendou was an idiot, he wasn’t getting it. Then Kaidou got too flustered to spell it outright, much to Chiyo’s disappointment.

Kyoya cleared his throat.

“Excuse me, uh-“

“Nendou.”

“Right, Nendou. I believe this new couple may want to sit at a table with just the two of them,” Kyoya said. Chiyo and Kaidou both immediately got flustered.

“What!? N-no, we’re-“

“We’re not dating! It would be too dangerous with Dark Reunion after me! Uh, I mean-“

Crap. Chiyo has heard me talk about that at school, but I might look like a total nutjob in front of these guys now.

Kyoya raised an eyebrow at that and nearly half-smirked.

It’s very tempting to completely annihilate this guy’s childish views. But alas, Tamaki seems to prioritize the host club help couple. So not this time.

Good grief. Kusuo wondered if this guy would get along with his brother. He did not like that picture.

Instead, Kyoya glance at the redheaded twins. The twins soon shared a look and both smirked. It was a little creepy how in sync most of these high school hosts seemed to be with each other.

“Hey Nendou!”

“Do you want to play the ‘which one of us is Hikaru’ game?”

“Come sit at our table so we can.”

Nendou furrowed his brows in confusion. But the distraction seemed to work as he followed them over to that table.

“But I don’t know which one of you is Hikaru though,” He said.

“That’s okay!”

“That’s why you can guess in this game!”

“But I don’t know which one is Hikaru.”

“…that’s why you guess.”

“But I don’t know which one is Hikaru?”

Is this guy for real? Both twins thought at the same time.

Is he some kind of idiot? Yep.

They continued on like that for a bit. The twins getting more annoyed with the idiot and struggling to hide it.

Kyoya looked satisfied that the distraction worked. He winked at Kaidou and Chiyo before heading to the other table himself. Chiyo giggled and sat at the table with just Kaido.

Good grief. It’s not like they were completely alone anyways. Their tables were all next to each other.

Anyways, back to Kusuo’s own table. It was still a bit surprising to see Haruhi stare at Teruhashi for a moment again. Haruhi didn’t stay enamored though. Quickly getting annoyed again by Tamaki’s extra-ness around the very pretty girl. Was Haruhi jealous as well? They seemed more annoyed by Tamaki’s antics than anything though.

I see enough of his over-the-top-ness at the host club. And now I’m forced to be right next to him while he’s performing in such a way.

It probably didn’t help the way Tamaki was dividing his attention with Haruhi and Teruhashi.

At least Kusuo was able to enjoy his treat, it made all this worth it. Even if he would have preferred to savor it in quiet. It’s not like he got many chances to do that anyways though.

Haruhi and Kusuo thought the same thing for once.

Damn rich people.

Then Honey pulled up a chair to their table though, next to Kusuo and hopped up with his own treat. Apparently having a shared love of sweets made the shorter host think they should be friends now. Honey started to chatter to Kusuo about his own favorite sweets. Mori just stood behind Honey at first like a body guard, before Honey encouraged him to sit at the table with them.

Kusuo had overheard earlier how Mori wasn’t going to get anything at first. But then Honey prompted him to get something as well.

Apparently Honey and Mori joining the table brought the attention back to Kusuo. Now most of the others were asking questions as well, also about his like of sweets among other things. Good grief. He didn’t like the expectation to talk so much. People could be annoying.

Incredibly messy list of reasons why Saiteru is real and why I ship them (with occasional examples)

(and a little fan art to draw the attention)

Disclaimer: I did not read the manga, I watched anime and then searched for examples in manga as in supreme source

A little introduction.

There's a two things about Saiki K. that I need to mention before I will try to prove that Saiki actually likes Teruhashi back.

First of all, hope we can all agree on that, Saiki as the protagonist is unreliable narrator. This comes both from a) the form of the series - the fact that we as viewers don't see things the way Saiki does (just like with his X-ray vision, he's unable to see Teruhashi's appearance, but we actually can - so he says she's not that special or pretty while we can appreciate her beauty) and b) his view of relationships he has. He can deny his friendship with Nendou, Kaido and others all he wants, but we, as viewers see in every episode that he loves them dearly. He can say all he wants about how he's not gonna solve other people problems, but he helps every time and so on.

An secondly (kinda follows the last statement) he is tsundere. Not even kinda tsundere - he's hereditary tsundere and takes this after his grandfather.

Those two points I based my proofs on establish one big thesis - we're not gonna get any real straight verbal confirmation from Saiki that he has any feelings towards anyone, especially Teruhashi. So instead we gonna do what shippers do best - thoroughly search for any indirect evidences that something in fact goes on between them.

This list is based purely on objective and subtle changes in Saiki's patterns of behaviour.

So here's reasons why Saiteru is in fact real in no particular order:

Mixer issue.

The thing going on between Saiki and Teruhashi changes after Mixer date (there's also a post here on the subject of how it changes everything which I do not intend to repeat). I just wanna say that there were a million of ways of how it could go with the basically same outcome. But no. From Saiki actually showing up at the mixer to control things like some sort of power broker to the very end of the issue there is:

Kusuo's irritation at those guys generally;

his mentioning that he knows Teruhashi's preferences (like, yeah, he reads people minds, duh, but how much exactly he had to read her mind to know her favourite song or joke? It's not something you think about all the time, you know);

appreciation of her thoughts about him;

smile;

admitting he would/does enjoy this;

and rock-paper-scissors. This just blows my shipper mind - he actually participated in gambling on Teruhashi and actually won the game on purpose just for the sake of it. Of course it played out as a joke, but guys, GUYS! He literally won Kokomi-chan! On purpose! He participated in something this ... morally questionable, even though if he felt indifferent about her he would'd just thought something like "she's not an object to gamble on her")

Saiki usually tries to ignore his friends inviting him to some special events (New Year eve or Kaido's secret base and so on) until it's absolutely rude to decline or there's a chance something will go wrong or his mom is nearby. But these few times Teruhashi didn't even ask him to go somewhere (milkshake incident, mixer) he avoided her asking him but still followed her around.

He did in fact say "of-fu". Out loud. While being completely silent all the time. No more comments (mic drop).

Cultural festival lottery.

This one is tricky and requires analysis. So there's actually two lotteries involving Teruhashi - first one to choose her group for Okinawa trip and second one is cultural festival committee members. Both lotteries is drawn by Teruhashi knowing she will draw Saiki with Kami-sama's help and Saiki knowing she's gonna succeed. But in the Okinawa lottery he overplays her and uses X-ray vision and telekinesis to change her draw.

And in the cultural festival committee member (which happens after mixer) he just...don't.

And it's not even about avoiding Teruhashi personally, this time it's about avoiding huge pain in the ass cultural festival committee member is. As for me, personally, crush or no crush, I would do everything to not have such responsibilities. And he just chooses not to do anything? Even though this time it would be worse than a trip in one group of six, it would require them actually working together, possibly with no one around.

Cultural festival issue #2. Saiki admitted that their superpowers work together perfectly and when combined they are in fact invincible. While doing something so trivial as school play.

Prior to that he worked together with his actual psi-team with some actual superpowers over something not so trivial (stopped train) and even though he admitted he wouldn't do that with such efficiency without them but he didn't say a word about their powers complementing each other, their working together this well or something like this - but he did say something this cheesy to Teruhashi, your usual perfect bishoujo.

Kusuo felt incredibly irritated when his brother bothered her (and kinda proud of her when he paid him back with her powers). Saiki from first chapters would've just use the crowd to teleport (like he actually did with Teruhashi when he didn't say "of-fu" for the first time) and left those two alone. Also, do you see it here? Saiki, you're being a little bit hypocritical, don't you?

He stops avoiding her or plotting so that she fall out of love with him after mixer issue.

He's incredibly annoyed at her brother but still deals with him instead of just disappearing out of his sight (especially birthday present episode).

I don't actually think that issue with her overwhelming herself fits here. He would do the same for Kaido or anybody of his friends. He's irritated at guys but it kinda rational reaction for him about the cause of someone's suffering. He kinda opposes himself and them, but he has a god complex, he always does this.

He constantly complements her after mixer. Constantly. It's basically praises to her whether they are working together and he complements her superpowers, or he helps her with press club and compliments her anti-stalker skills or her overwhelming herself just to maintain her perfect bishoujo image and he compliments her dedication.

He actually thought that she's pretty at the end of the series. Legitimately. No other comments, just this. Okay, maybe also that I'm happy that he had a chance to look at her without his powers. But also it means that if he really did like her before this, which I think he did, he liked glowing skeleton/humonoid body of muscles. You know, perfect form of liking other person without knowing how they actually look.

Reasons why I personally ship them.

(Obviously) Kami-sama is on Teruhashi's side. No matter what. Like come on guys. Its inevitable at this point. Even Saiki stopped resisting.

Teruhashi feels super comfortable with Saiki's friends - as opposed to literally every other guy in their school when she has to overwhelm herself just to talk to them. On contrary, Nendou, Kaido and Kurosaki usually have no problem hanging out with Teruhashi. Like yeah, they blush sometimes and act like she is blessing them with her presence, but they do not put the same kind of pressure that everybody else does.

They both have super weird (pervert) elder brothers they suffer from.

He sees all her imperfect thoughts and feelings and still choses to respect Teruhashi for both her good qualities and her flaws. (But guys, actually, how great this trope is? Someone knows all your dirtн secrets and bad thoughts and still chooses not only to love you (not talking about Saiki, cause it's debatable, even though I do think he loves her back, but generally speaking) but actually respects you for that?)

Saiki's almost omnipotent powers can't beat Teruhashi's powers of luck and ability to be loved by Kami-sama. And her powers are only powers in the show he has to reckon with constantly and that challenges him on multiple occasions. Not only that - he actually loses to her almost every time. Which is ironic, cause the only time Teruhashi did really lose against him in every possible way - it was the first time she appears in manga, when he didn't say of-fu and she eventually kinda fell in love with him.

This one goes a bit deeper then this post meant to be, but Teruhashi's life is actually terrible. She learned to enjoy it and to get the best out of the situation she's in, but that is truly a nightmare. Her brother is a pervert who is able to give her underwear as a present and wishes he could marry her. All of the boys literally block her way on regular basis. She has a fanclub who can approve or disapprove her social interactions (i don't think she pays much attention to them, but what if she knew they tried to tell her crush not to talk to her?). Press club is constantly after her, trying to take or photoshop embarassing fotos of her (borderline pornography). And every one of them sees her as an object. As a doll. A beautiful picture. So it's only consistent for her as a character to fall for guy who doesn't fall for her act and sees her as she is. It's beautiful. She needs that.

In conclusion (if someone will actually read to this point) I wanna say that for me the best ship is the ship that didn't happen but was implied. Especially with such complicated characters like Saiki K. It gives so much place to debate, to search for subtle evidences that there is some sort of affection or that there's not, to interpret facts and play with them, trying to understand authors intentions and finding some clues and hints...it's just so much more fun that established ships.

We'll talk about Kuboyasu a bit here because he's my other blorbo. Here's some things of him in his gang:

Kuboyasu is also an example of someone who didn't latch onto their family pack properly. Unlike Kusuo, however, he sought out another pack in his gang.

He's never had the opportunity to act as a puppy in a pack dynamic: playing around, being taken care of and carefully taught. He's always been the pack leader. It's gives him that idea of being a man that he's so attached to in canon.

People in more dangerous and/or violent environments tend to be closer in sync with their hindbrain. Kuboyasu is very in tune with his, and it helps give him those finely-tuned battle instincts. It also, however, has the side effect of making him a bit more stereotypical, acting as a sole provider for his pack and more chivalrous toward omegas.

This gives him weird behaviors during his ruts, like obsessively cooking for his gang members. He's also a lot more possessive about his things than most, and doesn't really like it when people try to touch his stuff. His pack members are fine to touch any of it, except for a few key items (his bike, helmet, a specific favored weapon that I haven't decided on yet, etc.)

His gang is an all-alphas one, both men and women. This has the unfortunate side effect of him never actually really being close to any omegas or betas. And because none of his friends are omegas, nor his parents, he's never actually been inside a nest. He tends to give them a pretty large radius out of worry he's intruding.

Most people don't really tend to contest his authority. Kuboyasu's reaction, as a result of both his father's treatment, his violent environment, and his closer connection to his inner alpha, is usually to snap his teeth at them and growl instead of...talking about it. Very few people will continue to push after that. Nobody really questions it, though, because that's how a lot of gang leaders are.

As you might be able to tell, Kuboyasu is often a foil for Saiki in this narrative. His reaction to his trauma is almost the exact opposite of Saiki's.

Now here's some of him at PK:

He's very protective of Saiki and Kaido, and later, Teruhashi and Akechi. It more shows itself in an over-reaction to a perceived threat, rather than something in his day-to-day behavior.

When he first got to PK and started assimilating with Saiki, Kaido, and Nendo, he initially clashed a lot with Saiki. The reason being that Saiki was their pack omega, essentially their 'leader'. Both of them squabbled a lot sometimes because Kuboyasu, if you can believe it, tends to be more lax than Saiki about letting them fuck around and be dumb. Saiki's even more protective than he is, but it actually shows itself in his normal interactions.

Kuboyasu, in the midst of an argument, snapped his teeth at Saiki. Kuboyasu got such a bone-chilling growl in response that even his alpha thinks twice about doing something like that again. It's a necessary correction, and Kuboyasu kind of calms down a bit after that.

*Cocks gun* you thought it wouldn't be Kubosai, huh. He eventually does manage to win Saiki over, and kind of fills the role of pack alpha. Of course, there's a clear deference to Saiki in more stressful situations, but most of the time Saiki is content to let Kuboyasu smooth things out.

Anyway. His design is so good, holy shit, eye catching right away, have you ever seen a man so beautiful you started crying? I want his hand in marriage, he's so fun and there's SO much to him. I could make a whole essay about him. I lose it whenever I see fanart about him, I physically have had to get up from my seat to pace around my room because I'm so giddy seeing him.

I'm so so normal about him.

AND OOOOH, AIURA, HELL YES.

AIURA IS SO FUN. I wish the gyaru style was more obvious but I suppose it would have been a hassle to do for animation and everything, and also since they're at school a lot of the time, well, dress codes and everything lmao.

I loved her ever since she appeared but admittedly I might need to rewatch to re-appreciate her more because I saw one too many posts of "Aiura is so cool and so good and nice! Unlike that bitch Teruhashi" and I got a bit sour by association, which is so not Aiura's fault. She wouldn't fuck with that kind of talk, she's so chill and nice to people. But alas, sometimes the fandom does not reflect the character properly.

I have silly headcanons with my friend Isis but in all honesty I don't tend to think too much about her because of the aforementioned thing, but 10/10, Aiura is amazing, one just must NOT look at the fandom so she can be loved properly.

Talking about Saiki and SA here a bit, btw, just a warning~

Thinking about how you said Saiki was a victim of SA and you’re literally so right. I feel like people sometimes just blow right past the fact that Kusuke is like that with his brother, but I think it can add a lot to interpretations of his character. But even if it only goes as far as what is shown in canon — which I almost doubt — it still remains the fact that Kusuke is doing all of that knowing fully well that his brother can hear him. It’s literally sexual harassment.

People point it out more often with Teruhashi and her brother (back to the reasons you said, people think it’s more serious if it happens to women). But the things he does, that’s all sexual harassment. And yet when Kusuke does similar things, it’s often brushed aside. Just,,, a bit crazy to me.

(And that’s not even mentioning when people completely disregard this part of Teruhashi’s story and act like she’s one-dimensional,,, but that’s another story)

I always viewed kokomi and makoto + kusuo and kusuke as like.. paralleling each other ? not sure if thats the right word, but IMMEDIATELY when i saw both of these dynamics i made the connection.. i guess since it was so clear to me, i assumed that it was so obvious and on purpose that everyone else knew too, but so many people just.. ignore it..

i think most people that read/watch saiki k have recognized the fact that most main characters are meant to parallel or relate to saiki in at least some way, (if anyone who doesnt know what im talking about is reading this, im sure at least someone on here has done a better breakdown on that, i just.. dont know where to find that..) but this particular connection is one i dont see often and i genuinely believe that its almost entirely because of the whole "sexual assault/harassment isnt as serious when it happens to men as when it happens to women" thing.. most of the fandom acknowledge that what makoto does is awful and kokomi is a victim, so why is it different when its kusuke and kusuo ??

its EXACTLY the same.. what we see on screen with the saikis is WORSE, actually.. and what WE see from these two relationships isnt the full extent of what the two victims experience off screen, and i strongly believe that its heavily implied that both kokomi and kusuo have been through much worse with their brothers than whats shown..

we have no idea what kusuke couldve done BEFORE moving away and creating the telepathy canceler (and dont say that he couldnt have done anything cuz they were kids, cocsa [child on child sa] is still a thing and still valid, ESPECIALLY since they were both kid geniuses and kusuke definitely KNEW better.. but yea, kusuo implies that hes been like that for a long time, way before we ever saw them, sooo..) and its highly likely that whatever happened that we didnt see, before or after the move, was WORSE than what he does ON screen (i honestly dont want to think about what a guy with an incestual obsession with his brother does with cameras everywhere in his brothers home..) and what we see him do is already insane..

literally using his brother to get off, manipulating him and forcing him to play the games that give him sexual pleasure.. actually, speaking of, ive seen some people say that what kusuke does isnt really incest because the only reason he uses kusuo is because hes a masochist and kusuo is the only person that can overpower him.. this is a total misfire LOL, his upbringing alongside kusuo and his relationship with him is the REASON that hes a masochist, the ENTIRE REASON why thats what he gets off to.. its not just CONVENIENT that kusuo is there to get him off, he SPECIFICALLY seeks kusuo out and forces him to do things that give him sexual pleasure.. he believes that kusuo is the only person in the world that can ever give him sexual pleasure, what about that doesnt sound incestuous?

and one of the worst parts of it is, kusuo BARELY acknowledges how weird it is.. in fact, he's COMPLACENT in a lot of the games, obedient even, being bribed into them the same way he does with simple things like bringing kuniharu to work.. this is the biggest reason why i believe the off-screen stuff is probably worse, because kusuo is obviously conditioned to think that letting your brother get off to you is just.. fine.. we hardly see him try to get away from this situation beyond simply calling him gross.. theres one moment during the cat tank situation where kusuke tries to get him to grab the limiter off of his crotch specifically so that he can see him in that position and kusuo looks terrified and cant do it, BUT its unclear whether the expression of fear was entirely his concentration because he didnt wanna break the limiter or because he didnt want to let his brother get off to that, and i think its mostly the former ? idk, i dont remember this part that well but im preeeetty sure..

he does acknowledge that MAKOTOS behavior is bad when he sees it, but he never thinks its a big enough deal that he needs to help her or anything, (except for maybe the okinawa situation) which i know is probably just for the sake of not letting the gag manga get too serious, BUT it can also be explained pretty easily by this whole thing.. the way kokomi is treated is literally the same way kusuo lives his life, even down to their incestuous brother being possessive to the point of berating their potential love interests.. (which in this case happened to be each other, kusuo and kokomi..)

so yeah, kusuo just. doesnt really know how bad it actually is ? or maybe he does, but doesnt acknowledge it because he doesnt WANT to.. him barely acknowledging it and being complacent is part of why some people dont really get that its sa and incest, but his complacency obviously plays a big part in how its effected him too, like thats purposeful.. like i said, hes been CONDITIONED not to acknowledge it..

to me, it looks like a classic situation in which kusuo doesn't acknowledge his trauma because he knows that if he did, it would change his outlook on his life, his family, and his childhood FOREVER. he would never be willing to tell anyone or ask for help on his own accord, and accepting that there was anything wrong in the first place means, to him, dealing with that issue by himself for the rest of his life.

why would he ever admit that anything was wrong if nothing would change either way? the only thing that WOULD change is HIM, and why would he want that? isnt it better to be blissfully unaware than to knowingly suffer in silence?

plus, he genuinely does love his brother and knows in the back of his mind that kusukes feelings toward him comes from their unhealthy upbringing and relationship and its more complex than just "hes an evil guy blah blah.." because he isnt really evil and kusuo KNOWS that.. actually, he might be the only person in the world who COULD understand..

so yeahhhh.. kokomi and kusuo are both CANONICALLY victims of sexual harassment.. (and incestual abuse at that..) and, by my interpretation, implied victims of sa as well !! (im not really sure where the line can be when it comes to this sometimes, like when your brother sniffs your bedsheets and rubs himself on them or gets off to you right in front of your face or tries to get you to grab something positioned over his crotch so he can see you in.. THAT position.. but i already said that its pretty likely that both brothers have gone farther than that off-screen..)

anywayyyy.. this is so important to me and i wish people would talk and write about it more instead of pretending it never happened and mischaracterizing every one of these characters, especially for the sake of a ship like i was talking about in my other post.. it sucks that people so often just cast kusuos canon issues aside..

I mean, do you think Saiki is hanging out with Teruhashi at some point off-screen? We can obviously say that Saiki is hanging out with Nendo, Kaido, and probably Kuboyasu off-screen since they walk to school every day and he complains about spending all his pocket money on ramen with the boys. But it's implied that Saiki's run-ins with Teruhashi are pretty much always disastrous and therefore are generally shown. If they interacted substantially outside of canon, you would expect it to affect their relationship at some point and for either Teruhashi or Saiki to mention it, since usually he spends most of his time outside of school and canon events locked in his bedroom doing a whole lot of nothing. 🤷🏾

Usually with the Psychickers something wild is going on so it makes sense that they're mostly usually on topic but we do see Saiki expressing curiosity about their lives and powers, and Saiki even trying out Toritsuka's theories of love, as well as arguing with and later agreeing to hang out with Aiura. He spends approximately 10 minutes with Akechi in canon lol, but his pettiness over the cake was iconic.

I would consider that to be way more conversational because it's showing Saiki's personality and these interactions affect how the characters view each other, while the silence & utilitarian gesturing he does with other people is an aspect of his "just like air" persona.

After all, just because Saiki doesn't seem to like using his mouth to talk, it doesn't really mean he's nonverbal in the traditional sense. He's plenty verbal with the Psychickers and his parents, after all! He's silent around other people on purpose to alienate himself from them and prevent them from finding out his secret and/or getting hurt by his proximity.

It's true that over all that's not very much conversation, which is why I think a power reveal is kinda necessary for him to deepen his relationship with anyone (whether platonic or romantic). He's just not able to be himself without his powers being out because his powers affect so much of who he is, y'know?

And yeah that's why I'd love another season to explore how Saiki's relationships with his friends change when he gets to really be himself around them. We don't get to see this with the Psychickers since they all know pretty much from the get-go that he's psychic. Saiki's grandparents didn't seem to have different opinions on Saiki post-reveal (except for the traveling convenience) but the Asumi eps definitely showed Asumi's feelings/expectations for Saiki changing upon the reveal and that 100% influenced their relationship. So there's a lot of interesting potential there!

YES YES YES ok so I meant to make a post about this a long time ago but a new hyperfixation distracted me before I could.

Here’s the thing I love about Teruhashi and Saiki — they’re parallels of each other, in this regard. If you think about it, they have quite a lot in common. Both grew up thinking they’re above others, because they were born different, both are being perceived as special by those who know about what makes them special, both care a lot about what others think of them, and both experience a great alienation from others because of their difference, resulting in a sort of invisible loneliness.

The difference is how they deal with their specialness, though.

Saiki HATES being special, he’s learnt from his past that it can bring great suffering to others and himself, and so he tries to hide it away and appear as normal as possible, which in turn makes him feel miserable because he’s holding back and hiding, only feeling comfortable to be himself when he’s all alone or with the psychickers. He thinks he’s being mean and uninviting but actually hels his friends behind the scenes. Despite his disconnection, he still has plenty of friends, but feels like he can’t really love them at first since they don’t know who he really is.

Teruhashi, on the other side, LOVES being special. She’s learnt that it brings people joy to be around her, and so she fully embraces who she is, being out there, which makes her feel great because she doesn’t need to hide what makes her special, and feels comfortable with it. She thinks she’s doing good things for others, but ends up being rather manipulative Despite her popularity, she doesn’t really seem to have any friends before befriending Chiyo (who she meets because of Saiki) and Saiki’s other friends, probably because others usually see her as this unreachable being, so they don’t even bother trying to actually connect with her beyond their praising.

Throughout the anime and manga, both sides take a step towards each other. Saiki starts to respect Teruhashi’s embracing of her specialness, and Teruhashi also starts to let loose with her perfectness when it becomes too much for her. Both of them also slowly learn how to form real connections with others, despite their specialness, becoming more grounded in turn.

I think that’s SO cool.

・　types all cutesy and uses emoticons like there is no tomorrow

・　buys sketchy stuff off aliexpress that promise the most ludicrous results (ex: she buys fat burning/slimming creams and expects them to give her a perfect beach body, gets confused when it gives her a rash and then buys more).

・　has an etsy shop and makes custom jewellery (makes it free for her friends and leaves it in their desks with a custom note, it's very wholesome).

・　her notes app is under LOCK AND KEY. that shit is more secure than the nuclear codes.

CHISATO MERA

・　doesn't have a phone. can't even afford gas and electric, let alone internet. is poor.

・　BUT IF SHE WASN'T!!

・　would join giveaways even if they're obviously fake. she's desperate.

・　miraculously end up WINNING ONE?? she gets flown out to be featured in one of those obnoxious youtubers videos and comes back with a fat paycheck and ridiculously expensive electronics (which she eventually sells, probably to pay the rent).

・　is a reoccurring guest on yumehara's yt channel, as a taste-tester, obviously.

・　was also meant to critique the food but she rates everything a 10/10 so was not very useful.

・　her most used app? let's all be honest with ourselves, it's a food delivery one.

・　has the most games downloaded out of everyone, mostly to entertain her siblings when they're bored.

IMU RIFUTA

・　has a really cute and aesthetic tumblr - yet somewhow doesn't know what fanfiction is?

・　dear god this girl uses everskies. she ABSOLUTELY uses everskies. has been banned several times.

・　has so many throwaway accounts. like it breaches fifty, it's getting to be a problem.

・　definitely argues with people on public forums, you can't convince me that this girl doesn't have festering anger building up inside her, arguing online is like a rage room for her.

・　her phone layout is one of those aesthetic pink ones, she spent hours on it. hours.

・　this girl is a MASTER stalker. has every social media under the sun, even the ones nobody has heard about in years.

・　is unnervingly good at editing photos and videos.

・　her alts are constantly getting suspended for harassment. has anonymously harassed saiki multiple times (he knows its her).

・　everything she posts is really over-the-top with cutesy filters, like, blindingly so.

SaiTeru: Why it Works for Me

So I’ve come to the conclusion that to finally exorcise all of my SaiTeru thoughts, I need to ramble about just what makes them so good together (in my eyes).

This entire post is just my very own personal perspective, of course; so you can pretty much mentally attach an IMHO to everything.

I’ll be using panels from the manga to illustrate my thoughts as well as I can. So if you’re interested in these two, by all means, get ready for an image-heavy post! And link-heavy, too, because I’ll be trying to not repeat too much of the stuff I’ve already mentioned in my SaiTeru posts lol

First, I’ve got to talk about Kokomi

Remember that time Saiki said that he is so powerful that his powers literally stole the joy of the mundane, everyday things; like romance?

This sweet summer child is in the same situation. Kokomi wants a "decent guy" that "suits" her, but all of her current suitors bore her. Of course they do! Every guy she comes across bends over backwards for her. No guy around her challenges her in any way.

To make matters worse, Kokomi only feels at ease with someone when she has established herself as their superior through the holy art of offu; aka, when she knows that all the give-and-take will be in her favor.

Needless to say, this is a recipe for disaster. If Kokomi were to settle for some guy that offues every time she so much as opens her mouth, she will have all the work done for her. She won’t ever need to go the extra mile for him because the guy will worship her. Kokomi will be able to read him like an open book, so she will never give the guy her all.

I feel, this right there is part of the reason why her feelings for Saiki develop the way they do. If it were just a matter of establishing her superiority, Kokomi would’ve developed a fixation with Kusuke; but aside from avenging her pride, she couldn’t care less about him.

No, the reason is that Saiki is that decent guy she had been looking for. Plus, by virtue of being unlike every other guy around her, Saiki makes her feel things.

He makes her guess, makes her nervous, makes her lose her cool.

He even makes her second-guess herself and forget she's a perfect, beautiful girl. For someone like Kokomi, this is huge!

These are all things that any normal girl in love would feel, but these emotions were out of Kokomi's reach until Saiki entered her life.

Not to mention, as the manga itself points out, Kokomi would need to be with a guy "who can stand against the entire world". Saiki is the only one who fits the bill, and the manga pretty much states it outright.

I'd even go as far as to say that, in the context of the manga, Saiki is in every single way Kokomi's one chance at experiencing love the way a normal person would.

Plus. Plus. Saiki can read her mind yet can’t see her looks. Which means that Saiki is the one person in the entire manga that truly sees Kokomi — all of her — and likes her for who she is, as she is.

And thanks to the alternate reality where Saiki comes clear about his powers (and SaiTeru are already dating), we know this will mean the world to Kokomi.

Okay, I think that by now it’s kind of obvious why I feel that God basically put Saiki in Kokomi's way so that his favorite child would find happiness (the day Kokomi notices Saiki for the first time is even her birthday, hello??)

Now, let me talk about the tsundere known as Saiki

Or rather, let me link the post where I talked about Saiki's side of the equation, because I want to try and keep this one short and sweet 😂 Saiki & Romance - Or rather, Saiki & why he could come to reciprocate Teruhashi's feelings.

Just like Saiki represents Kokomi’s best chance at a normal romance, I’d argue Kokomi may very well also represents Saiki’s.

Because with Kokomi, Saiki doesn’t feel superior. At the contrary, he knows that Kokomi will get her way more often than not. That even without him, she is practically invincible - and that together, they really are invincible.

Because with Kokomi, Saiki is always on his toes. Reading her mind is useless because he is still always, always guessing when it comes to her.

Because with Kokomi, his X-Ray Vision and Mind-Reading don't rob him of the chance of falling in love; at the contrary, they serve to bring him closer to her.

Heck, remember when Saiki confidently said that Chiyo wouldn’t be able to raise any love flags with him as his opponent? Well, when it comes to Kokomi, it’s Saiki who raises those flags; not Kokomi! Saiki might be the most powerful being on Earth, but he doesn’t stand a change against one Kokomi Teruhashi. And this is HUGE because Saiki likes troublesome things, and Kokomi is the most troublesome out of them all.

By the end of the manga, being alone with her even makes Saiki nervous. Not worried, not scared; actually, honest to God, nervous.

And the thing is that one could say, yeah okay but Saiki doesn’t like Teruhashi’s personality. And that would have been true at the start of the series, but by the end? Saiki definitely has come to like Kokomi exactly as she is, and his complaints are just him being a big ol’ tsundere.

Which FINALLY takes me to my favorite thing about them.

The Slow-Burn

Saying that I love their development would be a huge understatement. It’s just so good!

I love the irony!! Saiki's X-Ray vision and his Telepathy are the reasons Saiki can’t fall in love, yet they are also what set his development with Kokomi in motion. After all, since Saiki can’t see her looks, he is immune to her charms. But since he can read her thoughts, he can actually see her for who she truly is.

And practically every time he tries to make her like him less, it backfires and he ends up liking her more. It’s hilarious! lol

Saiki might not be particularly impressed with Kokomi at first, but this changes once Saiki becomes aware of how much sheer effort Kokomi pours into her everyday life. Saiki recognizes and respects Kokomi’s efforts more than anyone, because he is the same way!! Just like Kokomi, Saiki is fixated on giving a set image of himself and spends a lot of effort on achieving this.

This is why Saiki comes to respect Kokomi the way he does. By the end of the manga, he literally sings her praises left and right, says they're invincible together, etc. He couldn't think higher of her if he tried! lol

The biggest cornerstone in the Saiki-Kokomi development however is Saiki finally realizing that no, Kokomi isn't into him solely because he won't offu. Realizing Kokomi genuinely loves him quite literally "moves" Saiki's heart; and from that point onward, he makes no effort to get Kokomi to give up on him. Quite the opposite. But I digress because I've already gone on and on about all this in my SaiTeru posts 😂

Now, Kokomi's side is a lot more straight-forward, and the manga quite literally spells it out.

But one thing I adore that I haven't yet seen being brought up, is just how well Kokomi comes to know Saiki. Without realizing it, she ends up having a spot-on impression of him. Like, remember when Kokomi describes Saiki to his grandpa?

The joke here is that Kokomi thinks she’s making stuff up, but she isn’t. She’s actually, subconsciously, accurately describing Saiki, even stuff she’s not supposed to know; Saiki is gloomy, doesn’t talk a lot, doesn’t show what he’s thinking - but he’s also very responsible, prefers to support everyone from the sidelines instead of leading, is calm and gentle, and the type that naturally attracts people to him.

Kokomi instinctively gets all this because she’s so perceptive that she’s like a psychic. Her one mistake is thinking that Saiki is normal, which is why she was so shocked he wouldn’t react to her like your average guy; but then again, that’s exactly how Saiki wants her to see him lol

So TL;DR I love that these two kids that started the manga completely underestimating one another pretty much think the WORLD of each other by the time the series ends.

Lastly!!

I am 100% convinced they’d be great together

I’m going to be lazy again and just quote the TL;DR of Saiki and Kokomi are quite literally birds of a feather, because I still feel the same way:

It’s really funny just how much Saiki and Teruhashi have in common, because they seem so different at first glance.

But that’s what makes them complementary: as two people who know the superiority of standing on-top of their respective pyramids, and who have spent their entire lives with two older brothers who harbor such obsessions with them, they’ll be able to understand where the other comes from in their darkest moments.

At the same time though, they will also be able to balance the other when it comes to their most extreme traits. After all, they’re complete opposites in their rapport with others, in the way they express themselves and in the way they see their own powers.

Saiki and Kokomi are each other’s equal in more ways than one. But, all of their similarities aside, I’ve gone on and on and I haven’t talked about the elephant in the room, right?

That being, even if Saiki were to reciprocate Kokomi’s feelings, it would never work out because Saiki hates drawing attention to himself and Kokomi is so dedicated to being the most perfect beautiful girl that she would never settle for less. Right?

That is indeed a very valid concern. But, honestly?

I think they’ve already shown that they have what it takes to make it work.

In Chapter 242, which to me pretty much summarizes everything about SaiTeru’s development, Saiki shows that he has come so far that he is willing to attract attention to himself if it’s for Kokomi. He not only catches her in his arms in front of the entire school, he also glares at them for how far they’ve pushed Kokomi, and then he quite literally carries her bridal-style to the infirmary.

He could’ve simply gotten one of the guys there to do it, but no; Saiki did it himself. Which shows that when push comes to shove, Kokomi does come first.

And the same goes for Kokomi. In Chapter 242, Kokomi’s drive to be absolutely perfect in everyone’s eyes takes such a toll on herself that she literally collapses. Her drive is that strong. Yet, she throws every care for everyone’s perception of her away without a second thought simply to go thank Saiki for his help.

Which means that in Kokomi’s personal ranking, Saiki comes first. She cares more about him than she does about being perfect.

Let that sink in.

So, I definitely do think that despite their different “goals”, Saiki and Kokomi would be able to make it work.

Plus, well, they literally have God on their side. I’m willing to bet that, if one day Kokomi wants to go on a date with Saiki and he’s not in the mood for a crowd? She can make puppy-eyes at God and God will literally make it so no one even looks at them twice. And if Saiki one day needs to use his powers in public? Kokomi can so much as sneeze and all the attention will be on her; Saiki can set his hair on fire and no one will even notice. Hell, I’m pretty sure they might even think that whatever they see Saiki do is just a by-product of Kokomi vision.

And if it fails? They have their own personal army, the Kokomins, who have basically already accepted Saiki as Kokomi’s one true love.

In that way, I think Kokomi might very well be the perfect way for Saiki to hide his powers in plain sight. Similarly, Saiki can be Kokomi’s perfect weapon against her pervert of a brother - and so can Kokomi for Saiki when it comes to Kusuke, if the shrine chapter was anything to go by.

After all, just like Saiki says, when he and Kokomi are together, they are invincible.

So all in all... yeah. I’m hoping I managed to explain why I’m basically up there with Saiki’s God when it comes to these two, they are just meant to be together in my eyes lol
