Give me a fictional character and I will say:

Favorite thing about them: His big dumb hero's heart. His compassion. How much he loves his home, his people, his family, his beloved, his friends — how much he loves.

Least favorite thing about them: //stares pointedly at his inability to form meaningful connections because Thor is Not Allowed to be Not Okay (even when it's obvious and people he loves asks him to share his heart).

Three things I have in common with them:

I am, myself, an elder sibling!! And one whose younger brother was/is someone I am incredibly close to, care a great deal about — that entire drama is very close to home for me.

A passion bubble for friends and family that's, on occasion, close to the surface... but otherwise am chill 👍

and .... bunt out golden child syndrome vibes. Especially that vibe of "do it on your own and put on your leader face at all times, because all eyes are on you, good luck"

Three things I don’t have in common with them:

His ... overly reserved nature. I've been told I can be serious but I don't think I brood the way he does.

NOTP: if i see (1) more fan art of thorki in the thor tag i will scream. I guess also bruce/thor and valkyrie/thor exist ...??? I'm not really sure who Thor's exactly shipped with in the MCU besides Jane.

Random Headcanon: One time I considered the thought of little!Thor being exceptionally friendly with his kitchen staff servants, and because he's a strong little guy, he'd pick up giant barrels 3x his size and lug them around just because he wants to be helpful. And he'd do it with or without the prize of getting snuck goodies (though he would definitely prefer the goodies, were it up to him.)

Unpopular Opinion: I'm not sure if this counts as an unpopular opinion exactly, but I do always find it interesting that in the Frozen Vault Scene in Thor (2011), what the cinematography and editors show us that sets Thor off is seeing the dead einherjar...

And I'd actually say that this triggers his anger more than the interruption of his crowning ceremony.

So with that in mind, I'm not actually sure that (most of) his rage regarding the situation was about the coronation at all, in that case. At least, not in comparison to the fear he states (semi-subtextually) about being strong enough to maintain Asgard's borders were. ("They know you are vulnerable.")

He actually seems to only be upset about the coronation AFTER Odin makes it very clear he's decided to change his mind and rescind the crown from him entirely ... which only further fuels the point that Thor isn't ready. (aka: the one thing Thor is keenly aware of, scared of, and is scared the Frost Giants also know.) Which, you know, he's not at that point in time, but I don't see a lot of people talk about the details of that particular inciting incident all that much.

(honestly the ENTIRE text and subtext of the frozen vault scene absolutely FASCINATES ME so maybe I'll do a deep dive on it one day idk)

BACKGROUND

jade is the daughter of two business-people. the pair of them strict & straight as a line for her whole childhood. she was born in seattle, but since her father is dutch (hence her last name) and her mother is albanian, the family spent a lot of time travelling to their respective homelands, which was just about the most fun she had as a child. when at home in baltimore, she was kept under close supervision as her parents were the typical snobby, superficial semi-wealthy types and way too overprotective.

leaving the states for long periods at a time made it somewhat hard for jade to keep a friendship group, so she found fun in things that she could do alone like songwriting, singing and learning to play bass guitar. these were just hobbies at first until she entered her mid-teen years and began to take it more seriously, knowing she had the talent to do so. 

music forced her to come out of her shell massively. it gave her the confidence to. kids at school would want to hear her play all the time, and she was happy to show off her talents to others, which helped her to make friends

of course, around this time is when she developed a taste for fun. she wanted to hang out and go to parties and stuff like a normal teenager but again, her parents were still being way too strict & sheltering her

so she had to make do with sneaking out when she could, and when she couldn’t go have fun she continued to refine her passion as a musician, starting to post covers & original songs to youtube and bandcamp & even managing to get quite a substantial fanbase

however, her parents weren’t happy with this. they thought that music wasn’t a real job and that she needed to follow in the family footsteps and work towards being employed by their business. so, they made sure to only extend the offer of financial support through college if she promised to study business, marketing or something similar. and so, she had no choice but to agree to their ultimatum

she began studying at a university in new york, with a degree in business management. of course — she hated it. her studies didn’t align with her passion and so, to the dismay of her parents, she dropped out only a year and a half in. 

it was around this time that jade’s parents figured out that she was going to pursue the music thing no matter what and she wouldn’t be working for the family business. their ultimatum had technically failed, and jade was worried about potential problems between herself and her parents if she were to go back to seattle. and so, the search for a roommate in new york started. she moved into holloway as a matter of urgency

she could finally focus on being herself and taking up music as her full-time focus. there was an issue though, she needed a band. though, that issue was solved when she got together with some fellow holloway residents to form the indie rock band solar eclipse. with jade on bass, of course !!

jade worked as a barista and spent any free time she had working on music with solar eclipse. over the past few years, they’ve managed to take off quite a bit — they’ve signed to a record label, so jade quit her barista job and the band started to work on an album! everything seems to be falling into place.

PERSONALITY

fiery aries lady. aka charismatic and magnetic but do not cross her bad side sksksk

comes across kind of self-centred / vain but really she’s just super proud of herself and has a lot of self-confidence?

very all or nothing. doesn’t like to half-ass things. v determined and inspired at all times

can be a lil intense but is high-key lovely, v sweet and loyal, cares about her friends so much

she has a very strong personality and can be a bit of a liability. does a lot of things she regrets. doesn’t always think before she speaks

impulsive and unpredictable, she’s one of those extroverts that can become draining to be around after a while. she’s so talkative and excitable, a little too much. your muse may find her annoying or endearing depending on what they’re like

a slow burn love interest — i’m not a fan of ship plots that happen right away like??? i like a cute plot that can build and develop for a while !! gimme a lil somethin somethin. our characters have to really work together for this tho so ig i’ll be picky when it comes to this plot

he's been trying to teach you for a while now, actually, though there's been no progress so far.......

ok maybe you need a lot of polishing but he's too sweet to say anything about the three key changes that you decided to add in, the terrible falsetto, and the... well, that bit right there

however, he's so, so patient with you and he's always there to comfort you when you have a lapse in confidence

it's when he's practicing for one of his musicals that he catches you with one of his scores 

and you're rapping his lines it’s totally not hamilton, your voice no longer soft and sweet, but hard and edgy and your rhythm is perfect and jlvrfbjrfvbjfrcbjfcr

it's then that he realizes you might not be able to sing bc the weird tied notes and dotted quarter notes and difficult rhythms in slow music are messing you up

this man will ask you to sing for him on a regular basis and actually enjoy it bc of your effort

the only time karaoke is bearable is when jumin sings along with you bc, let’s be real, this man can sing

and as much as zen hates jumin, he will absolutely go bonkers if he has to hear you screech my heart will go on once more

and right before you start, seven lowkey messes with the mics so jumin’s is just slightly significantly louder than yours

you notice your mic must be broken and juju’s a sweetheart, so he offers to switch

but hey,, just like you-- he has no s h a m e in singing loudly and proudly, even with his terrible voice

if they didn’t have to take car rides with you, they would so avoid it, but it was much more convenient to take rides together to meetings

the two of you are grinning at each other while you sing, fully aware of the agony surrounding you 

and you’re enjoying it bc you little memes are Chaotic Neutrals and you two live off of their suffering

i was hoping you might go on a bit of a tangent i always love hearing your opinions 😂😂 i was really worried about the comeback too but for some reason my brain was like ‘it’s gonna be bad and you’re gonna be disappointed’ which was so dumb bc this is honestly one of my favourite albums by them !!! you’re right it’s so cohesive but the songs aren’t so similar to each other that it gets boring ive been listening to it non stop since it was released lol

my fave tracks off this album are similar to yours

intro/like a movie - i was definitely distracted by the mv on first watch but the more i listened the more i liked it like i heard more each listen, i also liked how the time signature is 3/4 it makes everything sound so dreamy n goes with the concept of the song so well, plus the bridge is gorgeous!!! another think i appreciated is that there wasn’t a key change (while key changes r really fun and great i feel like jinyoung used them maybe a bit too often that it was expected which didn’t make the change as effective in making the song more exciting or keeping the energy high much for me personally) 

diving - i love the whole vibe of this song !! i especially like the part where gongchan sings in the chorus the melody is just pretty and gets stuck in my head

zero gravity - i loveeeee how cnu plays around with dynamics of his voice in this one its like a punch to the gut but it makes u feel good lol i think bibi really fit well w the vibe and also the key change in this one came out of nowhere!!! no build up it took me completely by surprise which was like another punch i loved every minute of it

wind - similar to zero gravity i like how they used gongchan’s softer voice and more stripped back music for contrast to cnu and sandeul like belting lol it's so good and the song has such a nice groove to it it’s up there for me

coloured with love - what can i say i’m a sucker for some gongchan voice i’m so proud of him for working to improve his voice n gaining the confidence to sing a whole song by himself after seeing how upset he was after his solo stage in d+b1a4 this song just makes me feel all warm n nice

let’s fly -  possibly my fave song on the album!!! i love how they add another layer then another and another so it goes from this unassuming song to this huge dramatic ballad sort of thing lol  

tonight - THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR !!!!!!! it’s so fucking funky and almost sounds subdued at the beginning which is like ooo when’s it gonna break out which is so fun 

and i have to cut it short here bc i need to get ready for work but overall i love this album and i don’t miss the presence of jinyoung or baro like i thought? another thing i like is they didn’t add unnecessary rap like a lot of kpop songs do it’s not always needed u know ok now i must go lol

I’ve talked a bit with wakari about this, but honestly going into this comeback I literally told myself to have no expectations just because they all seemed too anxious and nervous about coming back as three and what sound they were gonna come back with that I promised myself that I was basically going to love it regardless and of course support them even if I hated it? lol

but! Honestly I am so pleased... this honestly has to be one of the most cohesive albums they’ve put out? (Which is something I really value in an album). Plus, this is also (minus like, the ‘What’s Happening’ EP I think) the first release of their’s where there isn’t a single song I don’t like. Granted, there’s some songs that don’t necessarily stick out, but I do find myself enjoying all of them.

Ok cause you know I’m gonna rant if I don’t get a hold of myself, I’m just gonna try and go through some of my faves real quick:

When I first listened to it, I think the MV distracted me so much just because that in and of itself I can gush about for 3 hours (I’m sure you can too lmaoo) that I couldn’t really even focus on the song that much? But now that I’ve had the chance to just listen to it with my headphones multiple times, I’ve really come to appreciate how it slowly builds. I think Sandeul’s refrain towards the end is wonderful, and I adore how it’s in a Waltz tempo which isn’t something you commonly hear. It really does have this magic, wistful feel to it

• What Is LovE? → I think this is such a great follow up song and pick for their second song to promote. After watching their performance and dance of it, I could actually see ONF performing to this song? It just has such a fun, youthful vibe to it

• DIVING → They sound so cute when they sing ‘diving into you~!’ idk i love it

• Water Drop → Their voices compliment each other’s so well, and it kinda has an old school vibe to it? 

• Wind → This may...? be my favorite song off the album?? I just love the lazy, lofi vibes to it; I also love how they play with their voices in a very sing-songy way. I enjoy hearing Sandeul sing in a bit of a deeper tone during the chorus

• Let’s Fly → I think this may be my third fave? (I’d say the title Like A Movie is my 2nd fave) It builds so well throughout the entire song until you get to the final chorus and again, their voices just compliment one another so well

• TONIGHT → The best of the disco dance bops, need I say more?

• For BANA → It’s interesting, because this song reminds me the most of something Jinyoung would produce? Probably because it’s the most melodic, the most orchestral, the fullest sounding of all the songs, if that makes sense. And I always was a sucker for those kind of songs from him. So in that regard, I do find myself... reminiscing a bit with this song. It’s just very pretty.

So that kinda leads me into the last point I want to make, about Jinyoung (and Baro). Minus the ‘For BANA’ song, which like I said sounds like a Jinyoung composition and we do, ironically enough have Gongchan kinda talk ‘rapping’ towards the end (so I can find myself imaging Bayoung fitting in with this song) but besides that, I didn’t find myself once missing their voices throughout this album. It’s like CNU (and Sandeul, Gongchan and the other producers working on it) did such a good job creating songs that fit them. Songs that their three voices compliment perfectly. Nothing felt like it was missing as I was listening to the album, and I dunno, I think that just really speaks volumes on how much thought went into crafting it.
