So like. I know this is not recommended behavior on my part and against most all advice. But i live on a swamp and rather often have to remove snakes from areas they shouldnt be (ie dangerous for us or the snake, idc if its just in the garden or whatever we're just chillin), and particularly often i find that its baby snakes. There arent many venomous snakes where i live but im like 95% sure ive found venomous ones around, and like. I usually try to use a bucket scooping method for those (as you can see in the pic) but im wondering what the best way is, considering the snake needs moving and its usually too quick to call a pro.

Examples of snakes ive found (usually dont takw pics bc they are for ID purposes and its usually a garter or ringneck that i find) i live in CT

Photo 1: honestly never figured out, never moved it from garden tho bc i only saw it once and we just stayed in our lanes

Photo 2: little guy was in the way of some stuff, scooped it up. Honestly. Thought it was a timber rattlesnake based on how it acted and its markings arent too far off but its head looks off. I dont really know tho.

If a bucket's all you've got on hand and you need to move a snake to safety, go for it. Just be very careful, and never touch even a small snake with your bare hands. If I were you, I'd invest in a collapsible hook - they're small enough to carry around with you, and can pull out so you have plenty of room to safely move snakes with! I keep one on my person at all times. If you don't have a hook, long sticks are also good options for moving snakes to safety.

Now, in your pictures - both of those are actually harmless little DeKay's brownsnakes! You can identify them by a light-colored belly, a barred pattern (the barring can be more distinctive on some snakes than others), and a dark-colored head with big eyes with round pupils.

“hold still,” vil narrowed his eyes as he tried to apply the face mask on rook’s face. rook twitched, a crooked smile on his face that he tried to hide without success.

“m-my apologies, roi du poison,” room gasped, the makeup brush grazing his cheeks. how could his face— his face— be ticklish?!

“what is the matter with you?” vil raised a brow, painting the mint green mask on with devastatingly slow precision.

“nothing! dohoho not frehet!” rook tried to reassure the housewarden, but when he accidentally let a few giggles slip out, he could only pray that vil didn’t notice.

and unfortunately, he did. he froze for a moment, allowing rook a few seconds pf relief.

“what’s so funny?” he asked, half-heartedly snapping at the other, but his confusion was plain as day. it was quite a fascinating look on vil and rook made sure to take a mental photo.

“it’s just that i seem to be more sensitive than i thought,” rook said, off handedly, hoping it sounded as casual as he wanted it to.

it took only a second for the cogs in vil’s head to stop turning because vil suddenly wore a face of realization and shock, though concealed.

“sensitive? you mean ticklish?” vil asked, curious and amused. rook tried his best to will away a blush as he averted his eyes.

“if that is what you would like to call it,” rook replied and vil sighed, picking the brush back up. when he started applying the mask back on, rook could’ve sworn it was much more ticklish than usual.

“vihihil..?!” rook giggled, though didn’t move away.

“i realized i missed a couple spots. sit tight for a second,” vil answered his unspoken question, his brush feeling even lighter and more torturous against rook’s skin. not only that, but it seemed as though vil would linger on spots that made him squirm. “missing a couple spots”… what a bold-faced lie.
