YOU'RE the one introducing capitalism here, not the people engaging in their hobby. Writing and all hobbies are about you devoting time and effort to create something or achieve something. A03 is a community for people who actually used whatever time and energy they had to write. That's the whole point of A03, and that's the nature of that community. Writers there have that one basic commonality. That's what makes them writers.

You shortcutting that just to magically generate a product is about nothing except netting engagement you didn't earn on something you didn't do. You're just trying to get attention for nothing. That's not a hobby. It's just sad and desperate. You're not a writer.

Art is only real when effort was made to create it. Hobbies are only real if you had to make an effort to do them. The effort is the entire point. With no effort, there's no value, and you've improved nothing about yourself.

Why are you even trying to produce something you don't have time or energy for? Why do you care? You're not obligated to have a product.

You're also not owed the results of a hobby you don't put time and energy into. People respond to real art because someone invested time and effort into it. If a picture or story appeared out of nowhere, why would anyone spend time on it? If they did and they commented on it, why would that comment have any personal value to you when you never did anything? When a computer is the thing that generated it?

I’m actually LOVING how Rick Riordan, and the other writers of the show, took his initial concept of a Percabeth rivalry fueled by that of their parents and kind of turned it on its head?

Now, instead of Annabeth being wary of Percy because he’s a son of Poseidon, he’s wary of her because she made a callous impression on him. They get off to a rocky start even before finding out who Percy’s father is, and when they finally do, Annabeth doesn’t care. Instead of them fighting because of who their parents are, they’re fighting over their own opposed worldviews.

Then, instead of them arguing over which of the gods is cooler and who was right in the story of Medusa, they realize that, just like Medusa, Annabeth is a victim of her mother and that, unlike Medusa, she is a far kinder and stronger person, unwilling to repeat the cycle of hurt. They realize that, like his father, Percy often acts without considering potential consequences and that, unlike his father, he is a far kinder and stronger person, willing to step up for someone he wronged and whom he cares about.

Instead of Percy and Annabeth’s rivalry being focused on that of their parents, it’s focused on who they are, themselves. But the path to friendship is still the same: a realization that they have each other’s backs, no matter what, because they’re not their parents after all.

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

as a reminder to literally anyone and everyone who even so much as considers this: AO3 has NO autosave ability when you're making drafts, so PLEASE do not use it instead of a writing program.

If their server goes down, if you hit a wrong button and refresh the page or go back to the previous page, if you accidentally close the browser, if your browser or device crashes, etc etc etc you are shit out of luck. Your work is gone forever, it didn't backup to anywhere and there is NO recovery option. Even TUMBLR's drafting ability is supposed to autosave and often does.

If you want to avoid gdocs that's fine- there's other text editors with simple autosave options, like Online Notepad or Digital Scholar's notepad, or there's still local-drive writing programs that are free and open source, like LibreOffice. PLEASE do not use AO3 to write your stories into directly. It has NOTHING.
