Only under a read more because it’s long, I don’t think there’s any Trigger Warnings.

Man, I miss expressing my opinions so I might try to get back to doing more of that...ha ha I know that sounds strange but like yeah..Like I used to write long-winded rants about what I watched or listened to or whatever I felt like... I kinda miss doing that.so I might try to do that more...

That and I’m kinda afraid to but I might share some OC things in the future? I debated about doing it because i feel protective of some OCs but I also want to share them at the same time so it’s quite a conflicted feeling XD. Seriously thinking of sharing info about my old YGO OCs even though I made them when I was 12 and only loosely updated them like 12 years or so ago? ...so they might contain some cringe...also I kinda abandoned all YGO ideas considering I can’t duel to save my life therefore I also can’t BS being good (i.e. I have characters that are competent duelists but I don’t have the skill to even pretend to be good and since YGO is like 95% Dueling it was hard to just ignore it and only write non-duel parts). But yeah, I always loved the YGO characters and the references to ancient Egypt which is why a part of me wonders what the story would have been like had he not completely turned it into a card game manga. I don’t dislike it but...you know a part of me really wonders... I guess I could have done something like that but *shrugs* So yeah, that’s why these OCs have dust on them but ehh might make an interesting thing to share?

It seems instead of trying Pokemon Legends Arceus I started a new Pokemon Platinum game. Yes, after chatting with Aisu about PKMN stuff I got the itch to play Pokemon Platinum again because I guess deep down that’s one of my favorite PKMN games. I have this huge ass strategy guide for it that makes me super excited to use every time, sometimes I just have it near me even if I don’t need it. I’m a huge strategy guide nerd guys, like the physical books type of strategy guides. Does that make me old? Ha ha! Anyway, I’m taking the game really slow though because my kid-self tended to just plow through the story and not train up Pokemon outside of my party and it made for a very narrow selection of strong Pokemon to use, so I’m trying to keep everyone at around the same level. I just now got the first gym badge since I had like 15 Pokemon I was trying to get to the same level. I wasn’t able to keep it even though, because the Abra I got via trade decided to start ignoring my commands at like level 11. I was trying to get everyone to level 12...so if he had just hung in there one more level it would have been fine...but no! It’s fine though...I’ll just get him caught up after I get the second gym badge. It’s funny to me though because I’d never experienced a Pokemon ignoring me in the game before.

Let’s see... my best bro and I have been watching Dragon Ball, Teen Titans, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. We made it up to The Demon King Piccolo arc which means we’re nearing the later half of Dragon Ball and this is all officially new territory for my best bro, which he’s pretty hype about, he was always curious about when in the series Dragon Ball shifted to be less comedic and more serious in tone. Can’t wait to see Piccolo Jr. again in the next arc (the Piccolo most fans think of when they hear Piccolo). In terms of the Cartoon Network Teen Titans show it’s so nice to share it with my best bro because before that I only shared it as a common show with an ex boyfriend of mine, someone who cheated on me, so it made me sad that I didn’t have any positive people in my life anymore to share the Teen Titans fandom with. Like, at the time i knew my best bro too (by like season 3 of the show) but he was a casual fan who would watch it if it was on and that’s about it. He’s become a fan of it too and he sees now why I love the show!  It’s pretty therapeutic to watch this show again since it had such a positive impact on me at that time, it’s ironic because I’m to a huge superhero fan normally with only a few small exceptions.  I’m eventually going to watch Batman the Animated series with him, probably when we finish Teen Titans.

As for Sabrina, yeah we both casually liked it as kids but because of life and infrequent airings we didn’t get to see the show in full. So, now we’re experiencing it together. We’re on season 3 and at this point the show gets a very slow decline, still good episodes, there are several jokes that aged poorly but overall it’s a nice wholesome sitcom that makes me miss some of the late 90s wholesome stuff, mind you I said some of it lol. We’re watching Teen Titans and Sabrina via DVDS btw. With Dragon Ball we are watching via streaming because well...we couldn’t find someone who sold the DB set altogether like we could for DBZ (which DVD will be our only option for because my streaming service only has DBZ Kai and I actually want to watch DBZ’s filler because it gives us more time to bond with certain characters).

Ha ha, I think that’s all I’ve got for now. Just out of curiosity would anyone be interested in a long-winded not-so-positive Mario movie review? I’ll try to mention what positive things I have to say too but overall yeah my feels for the movie aren’t great? Might write one of those when I feel brave. Anyway, if you made it to the end of this long post thanks for reading! I was trying to pass the time while a FOBG video was uploading!

Listen I adore your yugioh stuff frfr. Like. It genuinely is a comfort show from my childhood. I may have to think a bit when you refer to characters by the Japanese names because I grew up with the dub so context clues are my friend lmao but. It is lowkey making me want to rewatch the show because I stopped when the shark barian reveal and suddenly shark is Nasch or however it’s spelled again because tiny child me got SO MAD that they made shark evil that I? Rage quit the show? At least that’s as far as I can remember so I can only assume. Though there’s a chance that it might not have all been out in English yet so I could’ve stopped because nothing else was available? I’m not sure, it was like a decade ago. But. I love yugioh and I specifically love zexal, I never super got into any of the other series besides og duel monsters and even then I’m pretty sure I only watched like maybe a third of it spread out across the whole thing? Like. I remember the whole Pegasus tournament thing, then I remember uhhhh digital world..? There were capsule monsters. And then uh the seal of orichalchum arc I remember really vividly, and then like the “they’re all in Egypt in the past now” bit. And that’s all. I know Marik exists but I literally don’t know where he comes into play

But zexal? Zexal is my heart my love. I had an oc i larped as on the playground and when playing outside because I was an only child with no neighbors, and this oc could travel to different worlds (of shows and games I liked) and thte two biggest were the Pokémon anime and then yugioh zexal. She was besties with everyone in her backstory but had amnesia and hd changed too much for anyone to recognize her as she slowly regained her memory. Standard 10 year old’s oc type stuff. My favorite parts to act through were like, the world duel carnival for sure, and then uhhhhhh I had fun with the barian stuff but I don’t remember any specific episodes I liked playing. I loved to scooter down the culdesac and pretend I was on the dueling roller coaster though

also zexal was dubbed in full and almost all the episodes are on the ygo youtube channel, though unfortunately not all of them, but it does have most of them. i grew up watching the sub only cause they didn't have all the episodes on netflix so yk lol

I had the urge to look at my card collection and took nostalgia damage. I, li,e a lot of kids back in the 90's, was first introduced into the collectable tcg thing with Pokemon! And then Yugioh. Over the years I've seen some tcgs come and go and learned that so many of them never reached the UK (or the Highlands to be more specific). If it wasn't the big 4, even then I only ever see two of these in a 40-50 mile radius thanks to country life, then you'd struggle to find a set or boosters for that lesser known tcg or collectable card.

Even with the Internet being far more accessible.

Here's some of my weirdest and possibly lesser known cards along with the significantly more popular Pokemon and ygo cards by comparison (I had a vanguard card that was use as packaging for a ygo card I got in post lol).

The Melee cards I got from a magazine and I'm genuinely surprised they're still in good nick. The Kid Icarus cards need the 3ds game to be played properly. It is an AR gimmick but a fun one. Apparently they had boosters but to my knowledge these were never sold here. Perhaps on Nintendo UK's site but its too late to say for sure now. Dark Pit was a giveaway at an event if I recall right.

I can't remember how I heard about the Zelda cards. Probably from Tumblr of all things lol.

Below is my collection of pkmn and ygo cards. I have too many to show (yes I was too lazy to sort the tins out)

I have since learned there is a tcg of Megaman battle network. And unsurprisingly it was not sold in the UK. I'd love to get my hands on the X card that was bundled with the game Megaman X command mission.

At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if Spaltoon's table turf was an actual thing only in Japan.

So yeah, I find it kinda neat there's cards of IPs that you may not have been aware of.

Neat fact: Put Victory was released on the 4th of December in 2018 but not physically. This card will be read by the game and thus unlocking its entry.

Kid icarus uprising was released in 2012 (we remembered the game's anniversary at least).

Could people please stop shitting on YGO SEVENS

We have only seen a little trailer and got a bit of character descriptions. But that already makes a lot of ygo fans mad and they call Sevens trash, horrible, a disgrace to ygo in general - which is really stupid to me.

About the designs: Yeah, the characters look differently. I was surprised too at first but then I read that Studio Gallop isn’t working for YGO anymore and Studio Bridge is doing the job now. That probably explains why the characters don’t have the typical “ygo look” anymore. Even the cards changed their design. Sure, I will miss it and take my time to get used to it but I won’t make a fuss about it.

About the story: Can’t say much about that yet except that we know Yuga wants to change the dueling world to make it more fun with everyone and he wants to do that with his rush duels. That’s basically him saying “screw the rules, I’ll make my own” but hey, that could still turn out interesting.

About the SEVENS characters: So far, I like them all. Sure, Yuga’s haircolors remind of too many anime characters (*looks at IV*) but his personality seems fun. He also loves to invent stuff and so I can’t wait to see all of his creations. Luke gives me slight Shark-vibes which is not bad since I love Shark. Gakuto made me first think of Reiji being all serious and stuff but the trailer showing him having dorky moments made me like him. And then there’s Romin our main girl and it’s said she’s not interested in duels but I’m sure that will change later. But even with her not being a duelist, she’s a guitarist in a band which is really cool. Her personality seems like the one of a kuudere -even more than Aoi- but I think this is not bad.

Misc: Tbh, I don’t get why people think it’s that bad to have characters around 11-12 years. I was so sure anyway that after serious Vrains with its older characters, the next ygo series would probably be more light-hearted and with younger characters. (after all anime with kid characters are popular in Japan) People say that makes it not appealing for older fans but I don’t get why? Do you only watch anime about characters that are around your age? If that was the case, many people shouldn’t be able to watch Pokémon, Digimon, Yo-Kai Watch, The Promised Neverland etc. anymore. Having children as protagonists doesn’t mean the series has to be childish. Look at Digimon and tell me, all the series were childish with no serious moments and depth at all despite having characters mostly even younger than 11 years old.

The ygo anime series are aimed for kids no matter if the protagonist is 18 like Yusei or only 13 like Yuma so why are some people surprised we’re going for actual kids again? Some saying an 11yo protagonist isn’t appealing for older fans makes me wonder if they never thought of that younger fans also want characters they can relate too? Honestly, when I started watching DM I was probably around 11 or 12 years old and so, younger than Yugi and friends. Didn’t stop me enjoying DM. When I watched Zexal, I was already in my 20′s and so, way older than Yuma but didn’t stop me either enjoying Zexal.

The hatred for SEVENS really reminds me of the hatred people had back when Zexal was announced and a lot from the fandom called it immediately bad because younger characters, all colorful and apparenlty too comedic compared to mature edgy 5D’s. And I think most of us know how Zexal turned out later even with its more comedic start?

The hatred because of the changed art style is way too similar to the pkmn fandom acting shitty when SuMo anime was announced and almost everyone called Ash looking like shit compared to his “cool” looks in XYZ. (and well, there were also people bitching about SuMo being way too slice of life and comedic too) But imo, SuMo turned out to be one of the best pkmn series that could be fun but also still tackle serious topics.

One thing I don’t get either is people saying that SEVENS is responsible for Vrains ending sooner? Do we have any proof for that? So far, I just think some people hate SEVENS so much (and liked Vrains better) so they need another reason to shit on it. Personally, I think Vrains was doomed anyway because Studio Gallop having problems in general which already showed in Arc-V. And before someone thinks I dislike Vrains: Nah, I actually liked season 1 and have a couple of characters dear to me but man, the series took a nose-dive after the first half of season 2 imo. (but lemme tell you, I’m still sad we’re not getting a Vrains manga)

Long story short: it’s fine being sceptical about SEVENS, nobody has against that. But I do find it unfair to call a show trash that hasn’t even started yet. At least wait for the first episodes until you say “yeah, it’s not my cup of tea” and leave it. Don’t destroy the fun for other people who are interested in this series.

Cryptographic is because my favourite word is cryptic, and cryptographic is the more wordy/writey version of that. And DeLurk is because I had been lurking for about... eight years before finally making fanfic accounts. the-cryptographer was meant to refer to my fic accounts without being so obvious you could google my fanfic handle and return my tumblr.

And I also like Green, Blue, and Jessie&James&Meowth. And Lieutenant Surge and Sabrina are my fave gen 1 gym leaders. And I like Wartortle and Ivysaur a lot. And Sandshrew/slash. And Cubone/Marowak. And Tropius is so wonderful~ And Relicanth. And a bunch of others I’m probably forgetting rn~

V: If you could write the sequel (or prequel) toany fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?

Although I often am inspired to write in response to the themesand tropes in other people’s fanfic, I don’t often think of doing directsequels or prequels.

(For some reason though, I thought of As Clever Does (Harry Potter) I thinkit was a pretty clever bunch of snippets. I wouldn’t mind continuing the linewith a couple more.  Also it may havealso started my interest in Pansy and Luna interacting further, which is kindof a thing in my drafts for Built Out of Whole Cloth, so maybe I’ve already startedwriting a sequel to it in that sense, heh.)

OKAY, but here’s a realexception. And, even more amazingly, I might actually write it:Since Animomactually put out an open challenge for sequels to Snowblind (ygo), I kinda gave thething too much thought and ended up with a plot, and told her about it. Andsince I think it could also kind of work as a standalone with some minimalexplaining I might do it.

The gist of Snowblind is that Kaiba and Jounouchi pile ontoan airplane after something happens to Yuugi. And then the plane crashes in amountain snowstorm and Kaiba has severe eye trauma. And then they bitch at eachother and make moves on each other (while quite possibly being steeped in regret for not making moveson the people they actually liked) as they huddle together to stave off impendinghypothermia. Then they may or may not die. (It’s a really good fic, btw.)

I think the ambiguous ending does more for the fic than anyconclusion could- But, during the fic, Kaiba says, ‘Blind and alive would bepathetic, but blind and dead won’t matter,’ which is just tempting fatesadistic authors, lbr. It wouldn’t necessarily be a continuation in a thematickind of sense, but just following from the concrete series of events laid outin Snowblind I thought it could be fun. Me in comments section:

I admit I kind of considered doing a [sequel], followingfrom Mokuba being on the case of saving them. Something where Kaiba was blindand Jou was a couple toes short, and Kaiba had hooked his sensory system up toa kind of constantly updated virtual reality that was synched with camerasaround his office and house. And then Jou kind of bursts into his life andforces him not to be a shut-in and drags him outside and out of bounds of hisvirtual reality sensor field. And probably Yuugi’d still be around andeveryone’s uncomfortably unsure about how everyone else feels.

I think I wrote this thinking it would theoretically be a JouKaific, since it was based on one. But tbh I’m kind of feeling now that it wouldwork better as a friendship fic with some other ship (rival? polar? buddy?) onthe side. JouKai as friends that slept with each other once in extreme (andextremely awkward) circumstances is honestly just about as good as foreverromance JouKai. I (friend)ship it.

Anyhow, I still don’t know if I’ll write it but, yeah~

On an unrelated note, do you know what needs a sequel, emblematik?Your sightshipping drabble. I would read all the fic about Isis and her babyhaving brunch with Pegasus. Love it~

From Missed Signals, Lost Lines(pkmn)

“Silph’s using you, you moron!”Green shouts. “Team Rocket paid them off, and now that the Silph bigwigs havecashed their checks and realised what a shit deal they got, they’re using youas leverage. As a fucking bargaining chip.”

Pikachu sparks dangerously, inwarning, and Green withdraws his hands.

But it’s enough to get a riseout of Red.

“So that’s what?!” Red shouts.“Just now leave?! We walked out?! Letting Rockets now do what they want?! Theysteals! Killing!”

“No, that’s not what I meant!”Green protests. “Fuck Team Rocket, and everything they do, it’s just…”

Green sighs. “You can’t fightthem here, on their terms. This is bigger than just you and me. You can’t Red.You…”

Red ignores him. He chargesforward.

Green reaches out to grab hishand and yank him back, ignoring Pikachu’s warning sparks.

“Stop, Red!” he commands. Thenhis voice goes soft. “Your Pokémon could get hurt. Seriously hurt. And…you. You could get hurt Red.”

Red huffs, because he knows hisPokémon are strong at this point. Giovanni can’t touch him.

Green feels Red’s disaffection,though. And he reacts to it.

“Dammit, Red!” he flares up. “IfI tried to go traipsing off to Unova, you’d stop me! Wouldn’t you?! Or at leastyou’d come w-”

Green stops abruptly. He letsgo of Red and steps back. He raises his hand to his head and laughs bitterly.

Red feels the steady tug on hisheartstrings, softening his hard expression. He wants to tell Green he’llfollow him to Unova or Kalos or anywhere in the world, if he has to.

The impulse is too weak,though. And it’s not true, besides.

Red doesn’t say anything.

Green has his eyes covered withone hand.

“No. Never mind. You’re right.How would I know what the fuck you’d do?” Green spits.

That’s not what I said, Red thinks.

Green swings his arm down offhis face and grins.

“Fine. So, you are readyfor Boss Rocket!” Green says. “Well, Red! I’m moving on up and ahead! AmI a genius or what? I’m going to the Pokémon League toboot out the Elite Four! I’ll become the world’s most powerful Trainer!And you can do whatever you want. Don’t sweat it!”

Okay, maybe this exchange is an odd one to choose forseveral reasons

Red barely talks.

When Red does talk – broken English, because languagedisorder fic.

I didn’t even write that last line of dialogue. It’s lifteddirectly from the game text.

But it’s maybe because I’m working around all those thingsthat makes me like it. I feel like there’s a clear sense of a back and forth –action and reaction – between the characters, and even in how Pikachu does and doesn’t intervene.And I think that’s captured even despite the fact that only Green is reallytalking.

It was also a strange because the context and tone of thefinal quote isn’t very well established in the game itself, so distorting itinto this really sarcastic context in a way that made sense made me prettyhappy.

And also this conversation marked the first real break inGreen’s arrogant/cocky façade in the fic, and writing the way his anger andconcern radiated out beyond his control felt really significant and I hope Icaptured that well. I like the next big dialogue scene with Green, right afterRed defeats him at the Indigo Plateau, for the same kind of reason.

But, idk, sorry emblematik, Iknow you probably care more about ygo. I really liked a lot of the dialogue fromthe Wepet Renpet SetoKisa drabble. From Set’s conversation with Isis:

Set turned his head down.“That’s not what I-” He huffed and abruptly steered the conversation around.“Why is it, Isis, that you must always butt your nose into my affairs?!”

“Well, it’snot as if you butt into my affairs,” Isis said. “If I didn’t do it, what elsewould we talk about then?”

It would have been an easystatement to rebuff, had Isis made it to anyone other than Set. He frowned,crossed his arms, and returned to staring moodily at Kisara.

“Ooooh, I’vehad enough of this!” Mana announced. She stuffed the last of her cake loaf intoher mouth, pushed the rest of the bowl away, and licked the crumbs off herthumb. She stood abruptly and swallowed heavily before speaking. “I’ll takecare of this!” She jumped up on one foot, winked cheerfully, and began to skiparound the table.

Sorry, Iknow I’m not funny but the idea of Isis calling out Set on the basis of himbeing not nosy enough and being uninterested in her affairs (read:self-absorbed) just really gets me giggling. And Mana’s dialogue was alsoreally fun to write.

Also I think the combined conversation between Mana, Set, Atem,and Kisara later on also came out astoundingly well. I wouldn’t say it’s my best work,but just-

Anytime I get more than four characters into the same conversationtogether it becomes really, reallyhard to decide who speaks up when and how much. And, naturally, there arecharacters you want to focus on, and it’s hard to decide if it’s natural forthem to be one of the louder voices in the conversation, or if you’re shuttingthe other characters up too much. Anyhow, I find it so difficult, I can’t helpbut be proud even with passable attempts at group dialogue.
