I explain the concepts behind these sketches under the cut (it got quite long).
The concept for these sketches started off by a factoid about Eevee I remembered. That is the fact that Eevee's DNA is so volatile that it can quickly adapt to any situation.
'Gold- It has the ability to alter the composition of its body to suit its surrounding environment.
Ruby & Sapphire- Eevee has an unstable genetic makeup that suddenly mutates due to the environment in which it lives. Radiation from various stones causes this Pokémon to evolve.
Ultra Moon- Its genes are easily influenced by its surroundings. Even its face starts to look like that of its Trainer.'
-Source: Bulbapedia
Ignoring the face stuff of that last entry, the fact that Eevee can change itself to suit its environment was a major influence for this Umbreon's design.
Something I immediately noticed is the fact that Damian has an Umbreon. Assuming he raised this Pokémon, I inferred that he spend a fair bit of time with his Eevee at night (since Eevee evolves into Umbreon via level up w/ high friendship at night). You know what else Damian does at night? Saving the world from devastation- I mean, protecting Gotham from dangerous criminals. If Damian treated his Eevee more like a regular pet and mostly spent time w/ it during the day, it would most likely be an Espeon or even Sylveon (depends whether or not it has a fairy-type move).
From there, I figured that his Eevee was often involved in his nighttime shenanigans so, due to how its genes worked, adapted accordingly.
First idea tries to go for a more lean look (because of all the acrobats one has to do to swing across Gotham), second one goes for a bulkier silhouette because Damian would often fight skilled criminals so his Eevee would evolved into a sort of bodyguard (believe or not, Umbreon is quite bulky and has been used for stalling in more competitive settings). I even gave him a shorten tail so that people or other Pokémon couldn't easily grab it to incapacitate the Umbreon.
The third idea is the one I ended up exploring a bit more. The thought process was along the lines of:
'This Umbreon needs to look like a loving pet and very adapted to Gotham's environment. Right? A smaller body and leaner proportions would make sense for all the crevices & alleyways alongside make him a bit like a teacup dog. Big rings would both be intimidating to criminals when they see them glow in pitch blackness and look quite cute in normal daylight.'
I even tried to give him the smaller tail from draft 2 (not that you can really tell in these drawings).
Not pictured here but I imaged Umbreon wearing a costume when on patrol for protection and identity preservation (not sure how much armor he needs but he needs to wear something).
I don't have a defined personality personality for him but he has a very close bond with Damian (he has been there for some of his down moments), would absolutely protect Dames if he is in dire trouble and often reflects how Damian is feeling. He is practically Damian's starter Pokémon since his Robin days.
Before I close off, I like to mention that I had the idea that Umbreon got involved in vigilantism by sneaking onto patrols because he was determined to help Damian so he had to teach him how Gotham patrols work so he wouldn't get himself killed (hence that one drawing where he drops some kneepads & fabric on the ground next to Eevee).
Anyways, these are my ideas (for now). Any constructive criticism would be appreciated :3

This has been kicking around in my drafts for awhile. I didn't really know what to make of it then, and I don't now, but I want to start cleaning some stuff up, so here it is:
Remember a snippet of a weird dream, which is already odd, because I usually forget my dreams immediately upon waking up.
The setup doesn't matter too much, but I know my brother (younger than he is now, for some reason) was being an asshole to a Gligar he caught in one of his games, and I decided I was stealing it. Proceeded to steal it and then... I guess trade it to myself, but it was framed as being an outdated Pokemon Transfer thing, albeit in its own building, kind of like the old GTS buildings. I traded it to myself and was poking around for some reason, going in doors that were there, until muttering out loud that I should stop and "go home".
At that point, a scene triggered as I tried to go through a different door that, for some reason, caused 3 characters to run out of the door-- clearly in conflict with each other-- and then hurry back through the door, which couldn't be opened after the fact. Each of these characters had Ingo's sprite, but in dream, I could tell that at least 2 were more worn than his actual BW sprite. I can't remember a lick of what was said, and I actually remember that in the 'moment' in my dream, I wasn't able to understand/remember what was being said, only that there was some kind of conflict ongoing. That was weird, because there were definitely text boxes involved, since I distinctly remember seeing a character tag to denote that someone was talking: the mispelled "Ingou".
For some reason, the dream switched to a more first person perspective in that universe, in the supposed PokeTransfer building. There was someone else with me then, trying to recreate what happened, and I kept opening doors and muttering that I had to go home, then. There were phones next to each of the doors, which I don't think was relevant, but I noticed at the time. Eventually, I got something to happen again, but it was just someone talking, and I knew it was the same character. It was some kind of warning/recounting of something that happened before, implied to be an attack from Pokemon against humans, at least some of them children, which was fatal. This wasn't directed at me, by the way-- it was like it was being said to someone else nearby. The person specifically highlighted Alakazam, Magnemite and Magneton, but in plural, implying that multiple members of each species had something to do with it. The only other thing I could make out for sure (because this was a lot clearer, but still hard to understand) was something about a Holiday Island, and then somehow my brain emphasizing that the spelling on "Ingou" was wrong for a second time, even though there was no text box that time.
The person I was with saw that, and after we were done there, we went to look for any clue on what was clearly Bulbapedia, but was never identified as such. I don't know what article we landed on, but we found a reference to "Ingou" leading to an article on Holiday Island. I should note that, as I mentioned, the game Gligar was in, and the version of Poke Transfer were both outdated. They should have been even older based on this being a physical location and the sprite art, but my dream told me they were about Ultra Moon era, and the unknown article cited that this event had been accessible since about 2018/2019. In the "real world" after all of that, I was holding a case that was like... it had the vibes of Ultra Moon but was more blue, if that makes any sense? I was sitting with a bunch of people, implying that I had been playing my game while hanging out there, and found a leaflet in the game case-- as used to be standard-- for a downloadable legendary Pokemon. My brother started walking in right after that, and I stopped reading so I could hide the game/the fact that I committed Bat Theft.
I don't have anything to add from there on; my dream changed right after that, and I can't remember what it turned into.

Doodledex - #173 Cleffa
...I never really thought about it until I had to draw it, but Cleffa’s face kind of looks like Kirby’s. This is probably just coincidence, but you have to admit, the resemblance is uncanny...
A lot of the dex entries for Cleffa mention that it spends a lot of time looking up at the stars at night, looking almost like it’s thinking about home. In fact, the first ones (G/S/C) mention that because of its shape and the fact that it’s commonly found around meteor crash sites, it’s thought to come from those meteors. This is kinda funny, because this was before those anime episodes with the group of Clefairy who actually were from outer space aired! Maybe it inspired them...
#pokemon#doodledex#cleffa#those episodes were pretty interesting#i mean seriously in the first one you just have a bunch of clefairy#running around town and stealing shit#so they can build a spaceship#and the other one actually involved cleffa#i had to look up the second one on bulbapedia since i don't really remember it that well#but the cleffa like... fell out of the spaceship on accident#this is why you make sure your kids are secure while piloting a spaceship i guess
