idk who needs to hear this rn but i know i did when i was first starting out on this blog so here it is: the experience of engaging with fandom becomes exponentially more enjoyable once you realise that nothing you post or think about really relates to dnp as human beings in their real lives. the awareness of our parasociality is actually so critical to the enjoyment of *gestures broadly to the tumblr phandom ecosystem* this, at least imo. because once i understood that this idea of dan and phil that i interact with, analyse, discuss and make jokes about is, in fact, just an IDEA, a semi-fictional semi-embellished PRODUCT that they have both put out into the public as professional comedians and personalities - i became free to completely enjoy it for what it is. a thing that's MEANT to be analysed, and joked about, and obsessed over, the same way someone can obsess over a book character that's been intentionally crafted for a specific purpose and nobody gives a damn about it.
the difference lies in how we actually CAN'T detrimentally affect a book character by shoving our obsession in their face, whereas in fandoms of real life people that is an actual danger. and that's where the awareness of our parasociality with dnp comes in again, and where we have to draw the line ourselves.
but on YOUR side of the line, ie where dnp won't venture, where you're not harming anyone? you can have fun. and it's okay
you ever just have a lot, a LOT of feelings all at once about a character and not even remotely enough words or brainpower to FORM the words to describe everything you're feeling. so it feels like you may explode. yeah
I think the Sister Realm thing is utter bullshit because it's never mentioned again outside of season 6.
I think the REAL collapse of the Cursed Realm was from the misuse of a Djinn Pipe Bomb, but Khanjikhan was too embarassed to tell his son that shit.
No proud man wants to go "my son, I fucked up big time, yeah, misuse of a Djinn Pipe Bomb, no son we're all gonna fucking die, bye son. no son fuck off I'm not leaving my house, a dumbfuck screws up, and he thus dies with the rest of his people! just shut the fuck up and take the goddamned sword before I strike you down."
i don’t really wanna live in a world where yosuke is less homophobic honestly. it’s interesting? i’d like to live in a world where persona the franchise is less extremely misogynistic (et al), but that’s actually different from yosuke the character exhibiting shitty biases. (are these things often presented similarly? sure, but they’re not at all inextricable. it’s pretty easy to not put teenage girls in skimpy outfits for sake of the camera while still having a character objectify them, as a purely hypothetical example). if you’re gonna rewrite a script to correct one of those things, yosuke being homophobic would not be my choice. it’s like not even his only issue. why not make him less misogynistic and mean and insecure and heteronormative and selfish while you’re at it? the various shittinesses are core yosuke characteristics, he’s a different guy if you get rid of them, even if it’s unpleasant. i think he’s interesting cause he sucks
This is a full minute of sharks, manta rays, a sunfish and loads of cute silvery fishies to bless your dash. Take a break here. Breath in. We will be okay 💙🌊
I can’t tell if the pacing is bad or if that’s just me getting disoriented by the past several months telling and retelling the same story.
While the fight between Flash and Sonic ended up more like the webcomic story wise, I didn’t enjoy it the same. The webcomic had a tension to it. It felt distinctly lonely and melancholy. But reading the manga redraws now, I feel kind of similar to how I did with the psychic sisters arc where it seemed like a “fixed” version of the webcomic?
Like, the story is still the same but the character dynamics are altered in a way that doesn’t make sense. They all get along a bit too well. Which would be fine if the story or enough dialogue was adjusted that it made sense, but that’s a step they skipped over.
For the retconned chapters, the emotion ONE and Murata were trying to communicate was different from the webcomic, but ultimately more successful for its place in the context of the manga. Between Flash and Sonic there was still pain and words left unspoken, just in a way that felt fitting. VS now it’s like they’re trying to communicate the webcomic tension but without any of the hard hitting moments where it felt like time slowed down that made the webcomic successful.
Anyways i know the arc isn’t done yet. There’s still time for it to pick up. I’m just feeing irritated and really don’t want to end up feeling more disappointed than I would otherwise because I have to compare whats now canon now vs what was retconned. (considering I liked the retconned version and felt it was successful to begin with 😭)
i don't have much to say because school but I am really enjoying watching trigun (98 anime)
originally I was going to cut off my adventures at episode 13 (which I found out was just a rehash of previous adventures + some new scenes) and pick up the other half during my June holidays
*then I found out the 'next day' that netflix was pulling the show in about 9 days from this post.(hhh)
*that was in march
so I'm trying to slowly finish the show now and draw out all my thoughts at the end instead of splitting my review into two like I intended (which was stupid now that I think about it.)
legato's interesting to me - I don't eat sweet stuff often but I would be down with this guy
he'd recommend the meanest cakes. he'd know the wackiest spots for heavenly delicacies.
for anyone who's read this far, take this legato doodle with you as thanks ♡˖꒰ᵕ༚ᵕ⑅꒱
I'll be back with my thoughts when I finish the 98 anime!
whatever you do DON’T think about how papyrus undertale’s biggest motivations lie in encouraging the people around him to improve themselves and finding the joy in friendship and how he doesn’t have any of that in deltarune whatsoever and instead he’s just hiding inside of a dark house while everyone else is outside going about their lives relatively fine without him just dont think about it
